One Piece Magazine Reiju short story
I recently bought One Piece Magazine to read the Reiju short story. I don't know how to share this experience other than just straight up translating the whole thing, but it was utterly hilarious chaos with the brothers trying to cook and it just ended up being a disastrous mess.
I'll give a summary, I guess...
Reiju and her brothers went to another kingdom for a diplomatic discussion, but once they were done, the Germa ships that were supposed to pick them up got delayed by the weather. The bros can't wait so they demand the locals to be given a ship.
Niji/Yonji: "Oh good, they understand. So we don't have to steal a ship."
Well, they did tell the people that Germa will compensate them, but still.
And yeah, the guys were so hungry that they were like "Even though royals shouldn't do menial things like cooking, we're dying of hunger here so it can't be helped."
All writers apparently agree that Niji misses Sanji like an utter dumbass because in the kitchen he out of nowhere says "Didn't we used to have a younger brother called Sanji who likes to cook?"
Yonji says "Yeah, he was kind of lame" and Ichiji says there's been wanted posters of him being spread around.
(Edit: I saw another post saying that the one who brought up Sanji first is Ichiji. To be fair, in the actual text there's no dialogue tags indicating who was talking. It's definitely not Yonji, because it specified "younger" brother. I personally read this as Niji because the sentence was more informal-sounding)
Based on the info they got, Reiju is aware of Sanji's history with Baratie and the Straw Hat crew, and thinks that because he's listed as just a cook on the wanted posters and not "fighter/combatant", he's probably still not much stronger than before.
Ichiji found some pork, labelled to be from Broc Coli. Reiju mentioned that Broc Coli specialises in pig farming and the pigs have been selectively bred to improve the meat quality. Ichiji commented "Oh, it's similar to our lineage factor modification, then", but then the next second he suddenly gets mad about it himself, throws the meat to the ground and was like "How could pigs compare to our Vinsmoke royal family."
Reiju: "You brought it up yourself out of nowhere though? :/"
Ichiji is grumpy and wants to go fishing instead. With the Raid Suit. Don't know how, wasn't explained, maybe he Sparking Valkyrie'd the fishes.
Niji wants to make chocolates, but had a meltdown because the recipe calls for cooking/confectioner's chocolate. He was like "Why?? do you?? need chocolate?? to make chocolate??? If the chocolate is already there I'll just eat that directly???"
(Note: It's not making cake or brownies or anything, it's making something along the lines of chocolate truffles or milk chocolates or other forms of chocolate that isn't just straight up dark chocolate/confectioner's chocolate. He's confused because the final product is still just "chocolate")
Yonji wants to make bread because it looks easy. Reiju decided to try to make something too, and wanted to make tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelettes) because she remembered reading about it in a story book with Sora before.
Reiju's logic: "If a penguin (in the story book) can cook, then even a beginning like me can do it." (so much for Reiju being the rational one)
Yonji starts shouting for help. His bread is a goopy mess and is a total failure. Apparently he didn't add the yeast because the recipe says 3g of yeast, and that's almost 0, so he didn't add any. Reiju tells him to make sure to follow the steps properly.
Ichiji comes back with a giant fish, and is asking for poison check. No poison, so Reiju left him to cut the fish.
Yonji is still having trouble, and he says he had added the ingredients properly this time. The dough is still gloopy and will not firm up even after kneading. Reiju said that maybe because of the exoskeleton, their skin are too cold for the fermentation process to start activating.
Yonji is grumpy and asks if this means he can't make bread. Reiju suggest using hot water to warm his skin, but he's already really disgruntled and says that it's so lame that they have to rely on microorganisms to make bread (well, at least he knows yeast is microorganisms, not just another type of flour).
(Note: This part really does not sound right to me, honestly. Maybe this was just meant to show that Reiju and Yonji have zero knowledge in cooking, but bread dough not firming up and gloopy is usually not related to yeast or fermentation, but the gluten. Most cases that I know of are either caused by adding too much water, not enough kneading, the flour itself is not suitable for bread, or even the dough being over fermented. I've never heard of sticky dough problems being caused by hand temperature.)
(Edit: I've discovered that Japanese bread making guides do mention temperature affecting the dough, but it's nevertheless because of the gluten and not the yeast. This one might a goof on the author's side.)
Ichiji gave up fileting the fish because there's bones everywhere. he dumped all the dead fishes he caught back to the sea. Yonji gave up trying to make bread and tossed the failed dough away (and also threw away Reiju's egg attempt even though it was fine :/). Niji can't find any chocolate, so he has nothing.
They can't do anything except wait until they reach Germa and then just go "AAAAAAA FOOODD" (well, they act cool in front of the servants, but still).
Reiju herself showered and got cleaned up first before going to eat. Seeing the poisoned stonefish served, she wondered how normal chefs handle the poisonous ingredients and so she went to the kitchen to ask.
There was a young cook on cleaning duty that immediately panics, but then a senior cook named Beryl came out to answer her questions. Reiju says old lady Beryl has been there for a very long time, even before the kids were born.
Beryl explains that to treat the armoured stonefish to make it safe to eat is to let it swim in a tank with Ruby Wakame seaweed. The seaweed will absorb the toxins and after 3 weeks, the fish will change from purple to blue, and this indicates that the toxins is completely gone and it will be safe to eat.
An easier method would be to just skin the fish and take out the poisonous organs, but fish skin is a delicacy, and so the chefs would do this so they can serve cuts of the fish with the skin attached.
Reiju makes a comment that cooking must be very hard because her brothers are all picky eaters (not just Niji, apparently), but Beryl says she and the other chefs are happy to adjust the prep to make the food palatable to the boys.
"Ichiji-sama dislikes green vegetables, but if you chop it up finely and mix it with meat dishes such as hamburg steaks, he will eat it without noticing."
Reiju: Is he a toddler?
(Note: Dunno if this is a universal thing, but it's a Japanese thing that when toddlers hate vegetables, the parents would chop up vegetables and put it in meatballs or the toddler's other favourite food so that they can get the vegetable nutrients even though the child dislikes the vegetable's taste)
"Niji-sama dislikes things with complex seasonings, so things like the sauces and such has to be made to be very simple to the utmost extent."
Reiju: That's dumb.
"Yonji-sama doesn't like food with dry texture, but if it's served to him when he gets hungry between meal times, he'll usually eat it."
Reiju: Is he a dog?
(Note: There is a section where Reiju muses that the cooks "safeguards" their meals just like how "Germa 66 protect peace". What peace? In the main series they're fine with siding with whoever, as long as they get paid. This comment doesn't make sense unless maybe she was being ironic/sarcastic here.)
Reiju apologised for bothering the cooks at this time, and Beryl then lets slip that Sanji has been to the kitchens often. When Reiju presses further, eventually Beryl reveals that Sora likes to make desserts often. Sora would say that she hoped to someday be able to cook together with her kids.
Hearing this Reiju briefly fantasised baking together with her mother and Sanji. Knowing it's just idle fantasy, though, she thanks Beryl for telling her all these and helping her appreciate cooking more.
Reiju thinks of Sanji and reevaluates her opinions on him. He's not "just" a cook. People's lives are basically in the hands of the cook, especially on long voyages at sea. She is glad that him having a place as a ship's cook means that he's found good friends who rely on him and trust him.
She then transforms, and uses her ability to suck out the poison from the fish, saying that the cooks are welcome to ask her for help to take out the poison if they need to cook with the stonefish.

Daily update post:
One of the issues that caused the delay in the hostage release yesterday was Hamas' violation of the agreement. Israel demanded that families will be released together, mothers with their kids, Hamas agreed. Yesterday, on just the second day of implementing the accord, Hamas violated this term, when the list only included a 13 years old girl named Hilla Rotem, but not her 54 years old mom, Ra'aya. This is tragic in itself, but it was compounded by the fact that Hilla is the only daughter of a single mom. Think about what it means to her, that she's being released, but not the only immediate family she has in the world. Israel insisted that Hamas must honor the agreement, but Hamas said the only way they'd stick to the agreement of not separating Hilla Rotem from her mom, is if the girl wouldn't be released. But seeing as the kids are considered the most vulnerable, Israel relented and accepted Hilla being released without her mom. Why is Hamas so insistent on separating the two, we can only guess.
So, for those keeping score, Hamas violated the agreement twice (potentially three time), first with firing rockets 15 minutes after the fighting was supposed to stop, then forcing families apart. The third issue is that Hamas promised the Red Cross would be allowed to meet the hostages remaining in captivity, but so far, that hasn't happened. If it stays that way, that's another violation. We're all waiting to see what will happen today, since on both previous days, the hostages release was delayed.
On its part, Hamas claimed Israel was the one breaking the agreement, even though there was independent confirmation that Israel met its obligations, such as the number of aid trucks allowed into Gaza as part of the accord. Today, the aid trucks went in even earlier, and with video documentation, so that Hamas would not be able to use this as an excuse again. Another thing that Hamas claims is that Israel is supposed to release prisoners based on how long they've been in jail, but Israel said it was not a part of the signed agreement. Hamas gave a list of 14 hostages to be released, eventually it released 13 Israelis kidnapped. The agreement said Israel is to release 3 convicted terrorist per each release hostage, so Israel was set to release 42 prisoners. When it turned out that Hamas is only releaseing 13 people, Israel still released all 42 people who were already went through the process of release. No official explanation was offered, but my guess is to prevent any riots from those three who would not be released, and their families outside.
The other day, a ship flying Malta's flag was attacked by an armed suicide drone in the Indian ocean. It turns out that while being operated by another company, one of the owners of the ship is an Israeli businessman. To target the ship for its ownership rather than operators, implies the intel probably came from Iran. The ship was damaged in the attack, a fire broke out, but no one was hurt. There's an initial report of another ship, supposedly under Israeli ownership, that was kidnapped today near Yemen. If true, this is the third ship targeted for supposedly being Israeli.
A video was circulated the other day, which I will not be sharing, but you can see it here. It shows two Palestinians from Jenin, shot to death for supposedly collaborating with Israel, and then their bodies were hung, a crowd gathered and filmed this, then the bodies were taken down, dragged along the streets, abused, and eventually they were dumped in a garbage site. Are they really informants for Israel? I recently watched a documentary about Yahya Sinwar, Hamas' current leader in Gaza, who was imprisoned by Israel up until 2011. But it wasn't for killing Israelis, it was for murdering Palestinians for supposedly collaborating. An Israeli internal security official said that out of the dozens upon dozens of Palestinians that Sinwar killed with his own hands, maybe 2 or 3 were actual informants. Sinwar murdered these people to make a reputation for himself (he was nicknamed "The Butcher of Khan Younes"), and for an array of other, more personal reasons. So... I'd say most odds are these people had nothing to do with Israel, too.
As antisemitism is on the rise, and too many are adopting a narrative that justified or dismissed Hamas' crimes, the Prime Minister of Ireland did the sameon Twitter. He got community notes correcting his erasure of an Irish-Israeli 9 years old girl's kidnapping.
Just a reminder that when one terrorist in Dublin stabbed five people, three kids included, there were massive riots, with lots of public infrastructure burned down, and rioters arrested. What would Ireland do if they would have been subjected to a terrorist attack equivalent to the one Israel suffered on Oct 7?
The really tall guy is an Israeli officer whose name can't be published, only his initial Y.
He finished a specific military role two months before Hamas' massacre. On the day of Oct 7, he realized that the guy who replaced him, who lives further to the north, would not be able to make it to the fighting zone in time, so Y jumped into his car and drove there, without a weapon or a bulletproof vest. On the way, terrorists ambushed his car, and shot him in the stomach. Realizing he's beginning to pass out, he stopped his car at the side of the road. He woke up to the sight of the second guy in the pic, Mulogate Gazhai. He's a citizen of Eritrea seeking sanctuary in Israel. Mulogate was in a taxi, getting away from the fighting, when he saw the wounded Y's car. He asked the taxi driver to stop. When Y regained consciousness, Mulogate told him, "I'm with you all the way." He stayed by his side, putting pressure on Y's wound to stop him from bleeding out, for almost three hours, hiding together in a ditch on the side of the road, while terrorists keep driving through this area. Today, for having saved Y's life, Mulogate was granted an honorary Israeli citizenship.

Ectoberhaunt Day 8: Pirate ship
Summary: 'Walk the plank, shark bait'. Sure the order gave him an excuse to transform unseen but something, or should he say 'someone', unintentionally prevented that. Well then, time to finish this as Fenton instead!
AO3 link
Stupid Youngblood! Stupid him for letting them steal the ghost shield generator! Why did it have to be some stupid song and stupid Ember and stupid adults and 'miss I'm so mature' Jazz being susceptible to that horrible and boring and dumb music! And!
AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaa!
Fear and rage swirling inside him turned his inner screaming outward as he plummeted off the ghostly pirate ship. Away from the fight above and closer to the streets below.
...Wait, shit.
He has ghost powers!
HE CAN FLY!
Quick, the ground is getting closer you buffoon!
Right when that thought passed through his head and seconds before he actually could change, something hard and solid caught him.
Fuck! They almost killed him the rest of the way! He will make them regret this!
Winded but not a stain on the ground and deader than before, he looked past the tears in his eyes the high speed falling caused and gave shape to the red being quite literally standing before him.
Valerie?
"Hey, Fen- kid, are you alright? What is even happening here?"
"You mean, you don't know?"
Danny was baffled at how she somehow remained blind, or he guessed deaf, to the adult kidnappings going on lately and he showed it clearly on his face.
"Know what? And let me remind you my hoverboard follows my lead and I will drop you."
"Gee, thanks. My savior." Danny made sure his sarcasm was obvious, "That stupid music being blasted from every radio in town was actually mind control targeting adults and we are rescuing our parents since you asked oh, so nicely." He informed her in the most annoyed tone he could, recent events have made him a bit short tempered.
A delayed thought occurred to him, "Wait. And Jazz. That know it all believes she is an adult and that's enough for it to work."
He said that last sentence under his breath with a bit of a pout, thinking of his sister who shouldn't even be there.
"We?" Valerie asked in disbelief.
"Yes. We. As in 'my friends and a bunch of kids who decided to throw a party in my house I wasn't even invited to. Our parents were taken and we are fighting ghost pirates to get them back."
A muttered 'can't fucking believe this' and 'of course they didn't even invite me' as she moves to drop him off on some roof top before Danny stops her from leaving him.
"If you leave me here, I will find my way back up there. That is a promise and a threat." The words came out of his mouth before he fully processed it.
Dammit!
He needs to be Phantom but if Valerie is here, that might impede their goal. Oh well, guess he's sticking with it and fighting as Fenton. Oops.
She must have seen the fire in his eyes or something because she lifts him with one arm placing him feet first back on her board behind her.
"Fine. Get on. Don't make me regret this. Now hold on!"
And they were off, closer and closer to Youngblood's ship where their peers remained captive due to that ghostly shield-like force field.
Upon reaching the ship, Danny jumped off the hover board and raced towards the captured teens as Valerie blasted Ember point blank, knocking her straight across the ship. Instead of landing, she vanished in her blue flames and, absolutely done with this, cut her losses.
Taking out his parents' inventions that he brought with them as well as swiping one of the Valerie's, he cobbles together a device to free the others while Valerie holds off Youngblood's skeleton crew. Being more careful than usual with the knowledge of the parental captives on board.
"Fenton?! What are you doing?" Danny thinks it was Dash's voice but he wasn't sure as he doesn't use his actual name when they interact. Extenuating circumstances perhaps?
"Shut up and let me work or I will leave you there." Danny snaps as he works in full concentration.
Had he looked up, he'd have seen several, usually cruel, faces blushing at his directness and competency.
A delayed shut down set, he steps away and stalks towards Youngblood. Tucker's job was completed as he deactivated the ghost shield already and Ember is long gone, leaving one less ghost for him to deal with. His eyes glinted green, raising his own intimidation factor, as he stalked towards the ghost.
"Avast scallywag, what be you trying so hard for these landlubbers for? You're ruining all the fun! Let there be a bout for the fate of the booty, then!"
"Brat, it's past your bedtime." A smirk playing on his lips as he riled up the ghost playing pretend.
"Kid, what are you doing antagonizing a ghost like that?! Get your parents and get out of here!"
Aww, she cares.
But Danny has had a very long, very bad day and they need to take it out. And if he can't be Phantom to do it, then so be it. He can't bring himself to care right now.
"Nice to know you care, Red, but don't worry about me. Just get everyone else to the Ops-center blimp. Might get going before the adults come to. Or you can just stand back, you're in the splash zone."
"Splash zone? Wait, what did you call me?"
"Seriously, that's what catches you off guard? You wear all red, so 'Red'. Why? Do you want me to call you anything else instead?"
Danny pulls out a weapon akin to a lightsaber and says, "As for the first question," he pauses for dramatic effect, "these pirates no longer have to wonder where their god is. Because he's right here! and he's fresh out of mercy!", with the most feral grin any of his classmates have ever seen on him.
"Captain, I don't think he's messing around." Youngblood skeleton parrot informed him, looking a bit scared.
Danny let loose as the last of the captives and teens made it onto the blimp, only 'Red' beside him.
"Choke on my vengeance! Choke on it"
...Or more like, watched on in concern. Ready to grab him when the ship falls in earnest. At this point, she isn't even sure if he'd notice they were currently falling.
She almost feels sorry for the ghost. Almost. the ghost seems to be able to keep up with Fenton's increased movements and attacks. Perry and dodge and counter and strike. Blow for blow even among the mutual smack talk and banter. He even started to overpower the ghost at some point before it evened out again for a time.
Both are having fun it seems. Danny clearly doesn't have a healthy outlet for his aggression if he gets like this, but Valerie knows she is not one to talk.
Really feeling gravity take hold, Red steps in and grabs him like he's a misbehaving kitten.
"Ok, you've had your fun," Red finally says after a while, "I'm getting you out of here before we drown with the ship."
The second she pulled Danny back from his frenzy, the ghost pirate kid flew further into the ship. Oh well, making sure she and her classmate don't die will have to be her priority here.
They ride back to the group of dazed adults and geared up teens on her hoverboard.
"Did you get that all out of your system?"
"Yeah, that was fun!" Danny gleefully answered with a laugh.
Yeah, he really is a Fenton with that kind of weirdness. Oddly charming thought.
At her unimpressed silence, he added "You had fun back there, too. Don't lie. When's the next time you'll get to fight on a pirate ship?" A sly smirk playing on his lips.
"...Ok fine. It was a little fun. Happy?" She relented as they landed by the group. The laugh she got in response was answer enough.
As they meet back up with the other teens, they are either looking dumbstruck at him or staring at the ghost hunter behind him. Sam and Tucker were watching her more with suspicion, but he saw some humor in their eyes when they saw him.
All eyes on them, Danny asked the group if they could meet back at his place to not let the adults know what happened. If they hurry they can make it back and claim to be studying or something if caught and questioned.
When asked why, he just replied with, "They are going to see us and I'm the one who will be in trouble. Either grounded or they'll be excited and try to drag me full force into the family business," Another thought occurred to him that would really make them go for this idea, "If they know you helped, they'll be even happier for that path and try to encourage it."
After that last statement, even those who wouldn't have cared for either outcome he'd get practically shivered in dread. This was a one night only thing and just to save their parents, not an interest into a full time gig!
Huh. It really does take just the right words!
Everyone but the huntress left to cover their tracks before the adults realized where they were or what they did. Leaving her to handle the dazed and coming to adults. And Jazz.
Now that things were calming down, 'badass and confident' Danny was receding back to a more 'sheepish and charming' Danny, brushing off anything cool he just did as 'spur of the moment'. Instead he flitted around as everyone hit the evidence, making sure no one was hurt after all of that as he took back his family's gear to put it away.
The least some of them did was change back and rush home before they could get in trouble themselves.
Danny was bewildered when Paulina even kissed his cheek for earlier, even when she said shed never be into him right before the plan went into action, on her way out and Dash didn't even threaten him.
Strangely got a 'That was pretty cool of you' and Danny still isn't sure that he heard right.
His friends were celebrating 'how cool' that was that they did that on top of bringing quality music back into town as they helped him clean.
"Dude, you snapped back there."
"And it was awesome! If only I could do that too, then I might be able to make changes a bit easier."
"You having powers on top of already being able to commit violence already kind scares me and I'm the ghost who snapped."
The three share a contented smile and have a fun laugh about their crazy night before taking out their homework to act like they've been at it for hours right in time for his parents and Jazz to walk through the door, confused but unharmed.

you KNOW what I'm bitching about under the cut
today at work my boss emailed our development team with me on CC and asked if they had updated something that altered system lead times for components. our department (procurement) was called out as the source of delays but she believed our scheduling program wasn't factoring in extra time for us to request quotes. this isn't something the scheduler has ever done, I don't know where she got that idea.
I had zero prior knowledge of any issue until reading this email btw.
anyway she cited a component part number in the subject of the email only and said an order using it was slated to ship from our facility before the component was received. she did not bother providing the order number, or any other links. the body of the email ended with a number that didn't resemble the component PN or order number and when I looked it up there weren't any results.
a developer replied saying nothing had been changed and asked her to provide concrete evidence by giving him an order number. he did not bother looking up the component number (though I guess it was in a stupid place, and there wasn't a link to hand hold). if he used that he would have seen that it was only used by one order. it takes 2 clicks to reach an order from a part page.
I checked the order and saw that our sales team (who decides the reasons for order fulfillment delays) edited this order yesterday to remove one component and add the component my boss mentioned. they did not, however, update the order's ship date or notify my team via either email or ticket. the new component had a longer lead time than the original, so this was a problem. this change and the creation of a delay was not my dept's fault though, so blaming us for it is total bullshit.
now if you're keeping track: of the 3 parties involved here, all 3 have failed to do their due diligence, 1 has provided insufficient details, and 1 has entered false information and failed to communicate any details entirely. the developer is not off the hook yet though.
I checked out the math that determines the date this order ships from our facility. all steps from procurement to shipment are laid out with the amount of time each should consume, and then at the bottom the number of days for all steps are added together and stacked on the order entry date to get a ship date.
except there are two of these sections, one that shows everything as it was the moment the order was first entered and one that shows everything for the order's current form. the current form had one accounting processing day included (standard for all orders) but the this was listed as 0 days for the original form section.
this means the order's original form, which sets the ship date for an order, is always 1 day sooner than current (and real) ship date calculation. sales has to manually adjust set ship dates or they will not update. so development did break something after all. the guy in this email thread was either unaware yet confident enough to make a statement claiming otherwise or made a knee jerk response saying they didn't do anything.
no one looks. no one reads. no one communicates. everyone makes judgements despite all those things. I'm going to start throwing bricks.
edit: btw I replied to the email with all the info I found including numbers, links, and screenshots. I am responsible when it matters.

Hi!!! Can I have a match up if you’re still doing them please?
I’m gender-fluid and pansexual
I’m about 5’1 and pretty muscular
I have a buzzed head and deep brown eyes with full lips and small nose
I love drawing, playing horror games, watching people draw, making stuff with clay, going outside and hiking!
I’m pretty introverted, I only hang with certain people that I’m comfy with and have trust issues. I have a hard time telling people no sometimes but I love standing up to people when they hurt others.
I’m a Pacifist and hate conflict, I also hate loud noises and bright lights.
I would prefer from clone wars and bad batch!
(Pro-nouns any)
Have an amazing day and thank you!!!
AN: Sorry for the delay, my friend, I hope your day has been amazing as well! This matchup I have in store for you may seem a little unorthodox at first, but it was certainly a joy to write.
Regardless of how you meet this man first, he's always the same: excitable, happy, and just a tad oblivious.
Wrecker isn't always the most in tune with his volume; Frankly, he's always at least a level louder than he probably should be, indoors or outdoors. That said, it's never intentional, and just a sign of his enthusiasm.
Even though he doesn't have the greatest control, I still see you getting closer to each other, even if it has to be a gradual process, with you having to take a step away from time to time to decompress from the overstimulation due to just how loud he can be. He might not fully understand what's going on, but he cares, and he's absolutely trying his best to accommodate once he puts two and two together.
On days that you just can't with the galaxy, perhaps the ship is humming just a bit too loud, or a mission takes you into a cantina with bright lights and a tone-deaf band playing their instruments loud enough to make your ears ring, Wrecker's there, keeping an eye on you and trying to help.
Wrecker is the kind of man to straight-up cover your ears, thinking it may be useful, even if it isn't always effective, and if you're alone after, on the ship or in the barracks drawing? You can bet that he's sitting there hovering, trying to guess what it is you're making.
He isn't always on point with those guesses.
That said, if he knows you're overstimulated, or just trying to collect yourself after a stressful day when you are on the ship, he's going to try and be as silent as possible, even in the most comedic way possible.
That includes hitting his head on the bunk as he sits down next to you, loudly exclaiming in pain, and then immediately following it with a whispered "SORRY", with him and trying to be quiet again.
...That said, Wrecker isn't exactly great at whispering.
If you encourage him, he will certainly attempt to draw with you. His drawings aren't particularly the greatest, but he tries, he loves it, and he loves it when you watch him too. Especially with any level of vested interest.
He 100% has attempted to draw what you were drawing before by looking not-so-discreetly over your shoulder and thinking he's being stealthy about it. He wasn't subtle in the slightest, but it was adorable, and it got some of the boys to chuckle as they watched it happen.
Would give you piggyback rides, and just pick you up and set you on his shoulder for fun.
He'd also do this to give you a better view as well, knowing that he and his brothers all were at least a foot or so taller than you.
You can also expect to be picked up as he runs away from explosions with the team, even if you're able to keep up. He doesn't want you to be in reach of the blast (especially because they're notoriously loud as hell).
Expect his hand to mess with your buzzed head often. He figured out it feels fun once after attempting a reassuring pat on the head and now it's just pure gold to him. Plus, you probably won't threaten to kill him unlike another clone with short hair he knows.... probably.
Recognizes you're a pacifist, given time, and respects it when you stand up to others. In fact, he likes seeing you get that riled up on behalf of others, even if he wished you'd have the confidence to do so for yourself.
That said he's probably going to be the one to step up first in a lot of situations- and frankly, probably situations that don't require him to do it in the first place- engaging in violence so you don't have to, and as he'll excuse "Because it's fun."
Sure, he gets joy out of it. Especially if he gets to blow something- or someone- up in the process. But that doesn't mean he doesn't go into it without good intentions.
Has absolutely slammed a clanker into the wall because it tried to sneak up on you during a mission, or dared to target you in general. Said clanker's head was later used to terrorize Crosshair.
Be glad you enjoy the outdoors, because if Wrecker can drag you in on any of the batcher's missions, he will, and the terrain they're expected to travel regularly isn't always the most pleasant. They're a fairly efficient and mobile group, and the occasional "hike" is to be expected.
On the topic of missions, he's absolutely tried to con you into finding a way to tag along with them when you weren't already assigned to them because he wants you both to quote, "blow stuff up together."
He does this even knowing your dislike of conflict because in his eyes there's nothing quite like bonding over exploding clankers.
Not always the most useful with advice. Anticipate many facepalms in the wake of this goofy man.
If there's anything you can look forward to, it's that Wrecker has the best cuddles. Enough said.
He's sulked several times because he thinks he upset you by being too loud. This is something several of his brothers can attest to.
Overall he's very much a beefy, violent himbo that does his best to show interest in what you like and be a little quieter because he likes you, and it's ultimately adorable as shit.
AN: Ahhh, I love Wrecker with a burning passion, and I'm glad that you sent in a request. Something about the idea of him meeting someone and just being so enamored that he tries to please them despite normally being the very antithesis of who'd they'd find nice to be around is positively adorable, and I simply couldn't resist. Hope you enjoyed! May your day be as pleasant as the ocean's abyss is deep! Also, it's been a while since I've seen bad batch, and I may be a little behind, so if anything here is off I profusely apologize and might edit later. XD
For those of you who are new around here? I take requests. You can find my rules here.

Soft fic prompt, 6, maybe Lis x Tilda? 🥺
Took a bit, but here we are; hope ya like it!
This is for the prompt 'coffee in bed' from this prompt list. Thanks to @mr-jaybird for betaing this!
~
Lis stood in an exceedingly clean, blindingly white kitchen, stainless steel appliances gleaming in the soft morning sunlight. She shifted back and forth on the balls of her bare feet, trying to fight off the insidious chill sinking into her skin from the tile floor—also white, naturally. She begrudgingly glared at the shiny, silver espresso machine in front of her for a long moment, tracing her gaze over its many buttons, screens, and meters. Then she cast one last tired, wistful look at the classic drip machine off to the side. It was the only black appliance Tilda had in her kitchen—just for Lis.
Tilda had warned Lis last night that her preferred coffee hadn't come in yet—'shipment delays, darling; it's bound to happen eventually when you only order from a very select lab in Canada'—and Lis was fine with that, she really was. She wasn't one of those snobbish types who insisted on buying only the highest quality coffee beans sourced from a small, three-hundred-year-old farm in some lesser-known country of the world's remaining-but-steadily-dwindling coffee belt. All Lis wanted was her ethical, affordable, sustainable coffee. And a lab in Canada (creatively called EAS Coffee Lab) provided just that. But then shipping delays happened, so now here Lis was—awake first, unfortunately—being a good girlfriend and making coffee Tilda's way.
She knew how to do this—she was an engineer, for God's sake, she knew how to work a machine. Simple steps: Fill up the water tank (filtered, of course), pre-heat the water, grab the bag of fancy, specialty-grade beans from the aforementioned three-hundred-year-old farm, weigh out exactly 18 grams, grind extra finely, pop the single wall (not the double wall, even though this was a double shot) basket into the portafilter, tap the filter on the counter, tamp down the grounds, lock it into the machine and...
Why Tilda insisted on using a semi-automatic machine rather than a fully automatic one, Lis would never understand. (That was a lie; even she could admit there was a certain appeal in the ritual of it all, as opposed to dumping the grounds in and pressing a button). She supposed she should be grateful that Tilda hadn't gotten it in her head to buy a fully manual one—Lis didn't think she could handle waking up and pumping a damn lever just for her morning stim.
She should probably also be grateful that Tilda had programmed one of the buttons specifically for when Lis needed to use the machine—no fuss about measuring out the perfect amount of water or reaching the correct temperature or ensuring the OPV never exceeded 8 bars of pressure (Tilda's preference).
As Lis waited for the machine to do its job, she grabbed a carton of milk from the fridge, pouring enough into the little metal cup for each of them. She even used the thermostat to ensure she got the right temperature rather than eyeballing it. The process wasn't complex by any means—it just seemed an unnecessary amount of work for a cup of coffee.
But as Lis padded back to the bedroom with two cups in tow to find Tilda bleary-eyed but sporting a surprised smile, Lis guessed it was worth it.
"You made coffee?" Tilda asked as she sat up. Silk sheets slid down her nude frame like water, pooling in her lap and exposing her skin to the warm sunlight slanting through the blinds.
"You think I could get through the day without it?" Lis shot her a wry smirk as she sat down her own cup on the nightstand.
Tilda gave her a lazy smirk as she lifted the sheets for Lis to scoot in. "I suppose not," she murmured, turning away to stifle a yawn into her shoulder.
Lis leaned in to place a quick peck on the opposite shoulder, gingerly passing Tilda her cup once she had turned back to face Lis.
Tilda's eyes glimmered with warmth rivaling the morning sunlight, and a sleep-soft smile played at her lips as she lifted the mug up to her face. Closing her eyes, she took a slow, deep breath, shoulders curling forward to settle around the cradled cup. Steam wafted upward, carrying the scent to Lis' nose as well—she could admit it smelled way better than her usual coffee. Turning to grab her own cup, she took a sip that singed her tongue, shooting Tilda a rueful smile when she saw the other woman raise a brow at her impatience.
Tilda rolled her eyes as she leaned over, briefly pressing her face into the skin of Lis's neck, offering a quick kiss. "Thank you for the coffee, love," she murmured, still not quite awake.
"You're welcome," Lis said softly, careful to blow before she took another sip.

Really anxious because I shipped a $40 order on Tuesday and usps surely picked it up from the mailbox because, y'know, it wasn't there when the normal mail was brought in later, but if they did they didn't scan it because the tracking still just says "shipping label created, usps awaiting item" as of right now. Which means if it left the truck and got to the post office, it still wasn't scanned, and I'm just hoping it's scanned somewhere soon and it didn't get lost somehow (it would be bizarre if someone stole it from the mailbox but I guess not impossible..?) AND I don't even know if I could file a claim for reimbursement if it was never scanned as in usps possession... (this is why ideally I prefer taking my prepaid packages to the post office counter and having them all scanned in front of me and getting a receipt, but because I can't really... go anywhere on my own, the only way to keep shipping things without delay is to have them picked up). Anyway I just REALLY hope that updates soon and I don't have to refund someone $40 (and that set of items being gone), which was already deposited into my bank account aagghhh
There's definitely been weird times where like I'd ship something and like it's just not scanned at any processing points until days later it updates across the whole country, it's just that even in those cases, usually it at least updates that it arrived at the local post office... hhh

Do you think that the solangelo contains more of a forceful representation, and if so, what is your advice to authors who are trying to make lgbtq+ representation seem more a part of the story/flow with the story then the opposing option?
May 22nd. I'm so sorry, my mind has been going off track for a while. I'm really sorry for the delay. 😭😭
So, regarding Solangelo as a representation, well this is gonna be hard to say lol. This has been circling the fandom since the day of its emergence, and this is certainly not a good time but eh penny for my thought ig.
Now. I suppose I have a very varying definition of representation, but let's not dwell on that. As for now, I can say that I do consider Solangelo somewhat forcefully developed. As in, the term of writing, plot-wise, etc...
It's quite difficult to say. I have no problem with Solangelo as a couple - or their dynamic - per se. Rather, it's the pacing that throws me off. This has been addressed in many posts - Solangelo has a quite... abrupt (?) takeoff. I just felt like Rick did not mean to make them a thing but just a spur of a moment - something small and... promising that you left hanging at the end of the series for reader's interpretation, for whatever reason (This actually lines up with Boo's time of releash I think? The LGBTQ+ literature being unpopular I mean).
In fact, Solangelo's whole developing process happened behind the curtains - as in, we're told, not shown. Imagine. In BOO, their friendship just barely sprouts, and the next time we see them again in TOA, they're already a couple. For the longest time possible, it was left to the reader/fanfic writers to deduce wth happen for them to become a couple in like idk 6 months? (A pretty fast process for someone like Nico imo. but that's just me).
Something like that is bound to raise some doubts.
The full picture itself is only revealed - partly, and through second reminiscence, mind you - in TSATS. It's also the reason TSATS feels kinda off to me, ig - the fact that some parts actually misalign with the established canon events, or appear like a patch to cover a hole in the piece of fabric. And some others just straight up fall into the what-the-f-was-in-your-mind-rick category. I doubt it was even Rick's initial plan to come up with TSATS in the first place.
However, it's also worth acknowledging that, whilst it would certainly help, Rick hardly has the capacity to fully-build another 5-book romance for Solangelo. That's as far as it can go (I usually think this to placate myself at the thought of the ship being undeveloped). Nico is not the franchise's protagonist (more like deuteragonist I guess), no matter how far this story goes and how widely loved he is, let alone Will.
On to the advice part.
Please keep in mind that I am, in no way, a professional or good writer, nor do I study sexual orientation and/or identity theory (I barely know the flags). I've also grown up and received education in an Estern (somewhat conserative?) country, so please take whatever I say with a grant of salt.
Now. When it comes to "make it seem more a part of the story", I... actually don't know how to say this...
Just look at the all the BL mangas (Japanese comics) and danmeis (Chinese BL literature) and BL manhwas (Korean comics). I have been reading BoyLove longggg before I even came to PJO, you know? The Eastern fandoms have surprisingly extensive LGBT content for a conservative culture, anw they have been telling and/or drawing stotries upon stories about same-sex couples since the dawn of internet. They don't even need to try. They have the image of a love, a story in their mind and just... go along with it.
You don't make it a part of the story. The story is either about it (much or little), or just nothing at all.
I'm saying making a story about it - rather than trying to incorporate it into the story. Give it background and enough development, it'd progress itself. You don't give it anything, of course it'd feel flat. This goes with any type of romance, not just LGBTQ+.
The problem with Solangelo itself, imo, is not the nature of their relationship (tho I do admit somtimes Rick makes me go wtf), but rather how they're portrayed. And furthermore, said portray in proportion to people's expectation. Solangelo, by all means, is a side-story at best (unless Rick manages to come up with a trilogy about their journey from start to finish idk 🤷♀️). People like it, so they tend to expect more from it, but the author's just a human.
I think this is everything... My thoughts are kinda in a jumble as I'm writing this, so feel free to ask if something doesn't make sense... This is also just my personal view lol don't take it too seriously if it differs from yours too much.
Lastly, I know my advice would probably not do much, however I hope for you to find your way to tell your stories the best you can!

Even Rich People Deal With Late Shipping Sometimes
Something is off with Tim's Coffee™ and he just doesn't know what it is.
HMB Bingo Board "Did You Put Something In My Coffee?" + Fluff
************************************************************************
RIIIIIIIING!
“Ughhhh”
“Whyyy?”
Every day was the same thing. The alarm had been ringing for the past 30 minutes. Only one of them woke him up, the rest just served to annoy him so he’d get up and start getting ready.
“Come on honey, you have that meeting with the board today that you can’t miss.”
“I can never miss any meetings anyways; it doesn’t matter if it’s with the board or not...”
Marinette has to admit, it didn’t matter his age, Timothy Drake-Wayne always managed to look cute when pouting. Maybe it was because it was so uncharacteristic of him that made it so endearing and needed to be saved as a precious memory.
“Yes, I’m aware. And I’m sorry for that, but you were the one intent in inheriting the company, so you kind of have yourself to blame for that.”
Insert Tim Drake-Wayne pouty glare.
“Alright, alright! Hahah, if it’s of any comfort, Bruce and Damian also have to be there for today’s meeting?”
“Really? That’s certainly better than dealing with those old snobs alone! I won’t be miserable by myself!”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen any family relish in others' misery as much as you guys…”
“I’m sorry honey, but you already know how it is with them, eat or be eaten!”
“Yes, yes Tim. Now go and wash up, I’ll start on breakfast.”
—-------------------
Just like she’d told him, Marinette went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast, only to come into a block she never thought they’d ever stumble upon.
Where’s the coffee?????
Marinette’s caffeine deprived brain was struggling to comprehend why she couldn’t find the coffee. It should be in the exact same place as always! The second cabinet in the top left corner!
She ended up looking everywhere and, by the time Tim was out of the shower and started getting ready for the day, she had turned the kitchen upside down and there was still no sign of the damned coffee grounds.
With some help from Tikki (Marinette swears she’d never get anything done if it wasn’t for the tiny Kwami), she ended up calming down enough to process her thoughts for what could possibly have happened to their precious godsent beverage.
Turns out, they had actually run out and, a simple look at the calendar in the fridge and she could tell they were supposed to get their latest shipment two days earlier. Opening the shipment tracking app, she found out that they missed on ordering the previous month for extra stock (like usual) and ended up only getting the regular monthly shipping, which had actually been delayed because of some sort of storm and, since the storm still prevailed in the area, all flights had been delayed and/or cancelled depending on their destinations. And guess what, North America was one of those destinations that were “Cancelled Until Further Notice”.
NOW WHAT???
Marinette was so close to pulling her hair out from the stress. How was she and her boyfriend supposed to survive their lack of proper coffee “Until Further Notice”???
Turning around the stove to turn off the kettle of boiling water, she happened to land her blue eyes in the container pushed almost all the way to the back of the cabinet and, if there’s one thing Marinette is, is curious.
Curiosity killed the cat.
So, she grabbed the container to find out it was instant coffee from one of the times Connor had been over and commented on how their coffee was too much trouble to prepare in the morning “with all those boring and time-consuming steps”, so he ended up getting himself a bottle of instant coffee from the store.
Curiosity did kill the cat, but satisfaction brought it back!
She had hit Jackpot!
It was no special roast carefully observed to reach the perfect level of bitterness along with the exceptional flavouring and meticulously packed and shipped at the appropriate storage temperatures to maintain all the properties farmers worked so hard for while also keeping it fresh when it reached their front door and, eventually, ended in their perfect mugs.
So, with the determination to still get some kind, ANY kind of caffeine in their systems that day, Marinette set out to make instant coffee for what was probably the first time in her life.
By the time Tim came out of the room, fresh and almost ready to start a new day, she had accomplished the feat of making a cup of instant coffee for the two of them, along with a couple of pastries to accompany.
She just had completely forgotten the fact that Timothy Drake-Wayne had never, in his entire life, had anything other than the best and highest quality of coffee specifically imported from tropical countries to quench his thirst for the blessing that was caffeine.
And, when Tim saw the slight mess that was the counter, and the anxious look on Marinette’s face, he knew something was up. Marinette may be clumsy, but her kitchen was never a mess. It was a sacred place for her after all.
He decided to shrug it off, she was often stressed about something, maybe she’d just gotten a message from one of her clients that left her out of sorts for a hot second. The rest looked perfectly normal anyways, so there was really no reason to be worried.
That was what he thought, at least, until he took a sip of his coffee.
It took everything in him not to just spit it out, simply out of respect for Marinette who had gone through the trouble of making it.
When he looked at her, she was looking right back at him through the rim of her own mug.
“Mari?”
“Hmm?”
“Did you put something in my coffee?”
“No?”
“Why do you sound unsure?”
“TeChNicAlLy. I didn’t put anything in our coffee…”
“Technically?”
“Yes! You see, APPARENTLY, there’s been an issue with our coffee shipment this month and we hadn’t stocked up last month and now we’re out of beans and “UnTiL fUrThEr NoTicE” we won’t have anything and then I found the bottle of instant coffee Kon got last time he slept over and that was our only other resource and I just couldn’t let you go to that boring meeting without caffeine lest I wanted you to snap at someone for breathing and I also needed some sort of pick me up and-”
“Marinette, honey. Breathe. In and Out.”
Repeating his actions and instructions, Marinette managed to somehow calm down from the anxious stream of words coming out of her lips in the usual Marinette Ramble™.
“It’s ok, it happens to everyone. I guess even with all the prime and premium subscriptions, even billionaires have to deal with late shipping sometimes.”
“But... your coffee?”
“It’s fine Bean, I was just asking because the taste felt off and I wondered if in your sleepy state, you could have missed a step or let it sit for too long and it saturated the flavour. To be honest, you could have just told me, and we’d order something to go from the cafe shop nearby and then get something better fitting for our tastes at the company. You know they are kind of required to always have a coffee fix for us if they want us to work properly, so we should be fine for the next 30min until we get there dear.”
“Ah, that’s right... I’m so used to taking my own tumbler of coffee that I tend to forget about the company cafe unless it’s an emergency” Marinette would have facepalmed if Tim wasn’t already holding her wrists and, having her so close to him only gave her the option to drop her forehead on his shoulder. His hands immediately dropped her wrists to fall on her waist in a hug.
“We could even ask for a bag from the storage until our shipment arrives. Or, you know, we could always drop by the Manor. I’m certain that Alfred has a storage room dedicated only for our coffee in case of emergencies like this, so you don’t need to stress so much over it.”
“You’re right! I didn’t even think of that! I honestly don’t know how you’re so calm. I thought you’d be the one skirmishing over this, not the other way around.”
“Because, if I’m not calm then there’s no one to help you calm down and then we’d both be a mess and would not be able to do anything.” the chuckle that left his lips should have been somehow offending, but Marinette settled to just snuggle up to him for a bit more before getting ready for the day, now with the reassurance that they’d still get their coffee fix for the day and that the shipment delay wouldn’t affect them as she thought it would.
15 minutes later and they were both out of the house, the instant coffee now cold and long since forgotten on the dining table, the rest of the pastries arranged with some fruit and cheese for the Kwamis to maintain themselves while the couple was out.

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?
It has been so long I honestly don't remember how I first discovered fanfiction, just that I was very young (like...12 or 13), the internet was very new, and my first foray into fanfic was very cringe. I LOVED the band Hanson (I still do love them as musicians and if never listened to their stuff once they grew up you definitely should!), and I guess I must have just searched for fansites on places like geocities and angelfire, and discovered webrings and signed up to get emails for this fanfic someone was writing--as in, they emailed out the entire chapter to their mailing list whenever they updated. And that led to finding other sites where people hosted stuff and writing my own. Then came livejournal and fanfiction.net and meeting really awesome friends through being a giant fucking nerd
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
Actual notes app vs google docs where I write most of my stuff down, but thoughts on Queenbosa and Zelda realizing the actual nature of their relationship post-Calamity:
Zelda either has a memory or Deja vu triggered by something she does with Link—makes her think of a moment from her childhood with her mother in gerudo town, and realizes they must have been in a relationship and not just friends. Angst—that her mom had to hide her love and that Urbosa lost her love and then her daughter and could never tell anyone so she suffered those losses in silence
Zelda grieving the mother she could have had, if she had known, if she had been allowed to stay in gerudo town, if Urbosa had not died
Link did not tell Zelda pre-calamity once he knew because he knew it wasn’t his place to say, and because he didn’t want to add that kind of sadness to Zelda while she was struggling so much and wouldn’t have been able to speak with urbosa; one of so many things he thought she would have time to learn about and process when she could give it her full attention
Zelda does not want that to be her; nobody should have to hide their relationship or grieve the love of their life alone. Maybe she does a ceremony or memorial of some sort for them together, either in GT or at the Hateno house.
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
It was not unusual for Link to make up reasons why they needed to delay getting back to the castle pre-Calamity; either because he could tell that Zelda was upset and needed extra time before having to deal with her father or other castle politics, or if there was something out in the field she got excited by and stopping would give her time to study and take notes. He would become very concerned about rumors of monster camps along their path that might reroute them or cause them to be caught out after dark, or he would be concerned their horses seemed too tired, things like that. She knew it was bullshit, and he knew that she knew. They never talked about it, because it would have meant having to talk about WHY he did it and neither of them were ready for that conversation.

My copy of the Trigun: Deluxe edition is expected to come this Thursday, and I've heard a whole lot of negative things about it, especially to do with the translation.
To be honest, I'm... quite disappointed that Dark Horse didn't bother to fix the translation for the whole thing. So what really was the reason for all those delays? A fan such as myself would have thought, "great! they're fixing the translation so that they can ship out a good product!" but nope... nothing of the sort. I'd wager a guess that all the delays were just to do with the cover designs.
I've seen issues with the gold foiling as well that has happened during the shipping/handling process, so I'm hoping my package isn't just 'thrown' or 'dumped' on my front porch, lmfao.
At least I have the Trigun: Overhaul version of the translation saved on my computer if I want to read a really good translation of the manga. I know having a physical copy will be great, given the exorbitant prices of the old omnibuses that were floating around on ebay and other websites (Up to 100+ AUD for ONE volume... I can't justify the price).
I mean.... I still can't wrap my head around why Trigun wasn't reprinted earlier and still widely available. The first few volumes of Berserk suffered the same fate and they fell out of print until they were reprinted some years ago. The manga also now comes in the leather bound volumes that we are currently seeing with Trigun.
This whole thing is a mess, but I'm definitely leaving some feedback on the Amazon website and maybe I might message Dark Horse about it like some other fans are doing, but I really don't know if I will be wasting my time with that.

oki. time for some housekeeping notes !
I will be dropping all of my owed starter. going forward I will be tentatively trying out a discussion / plot based process to approach interactions. which will require communication on part of my partner, of course. but if I have the muse / energy I will continue doing small unplotted things, but for now coming up with things on my own hasn't been very good for my mental health.
I will be going through and deleting things from both my inbox and drafts, just so I can get a better idea of what I want to invest in as far as interactions, etc.
I plan on going through my followers and softblocking / blocking (per rules, I will be checking to see what a blogs preference is beforehand) to curate my space. as is, I just want to narrow down the folks I want to focus on pursuing interactions with. if / when I do go through with this I will post about the process and my plans going forward / afterward, as well as potentially supply messages to folks to clarify the reason they have been removed (mental health permitting). which is to say, unless I block you you are welcome to refollow <3
I will try to get around to messaging the folks who liked my shipping call asap. I apologize for the delay, I am still very interested in discussing with you !
I'm thinking about redoing my carrd, adding some side muses, and making changes to my pinned post. I might also change my URL, but I haven't decided for certain. in general, I haven't made any definitive plans regarding this blog or how I want to run it, my sideblog, adding muses, etc.
my intention is to avoid remaking altogether, with the above points in mind, but I don't know and it will depend on how I feel after making changes.
I'm paranoid -throws glitter- this isn't new. I have no reason to believe someone is talking shit or spreading rumors about me, but I've also experienced how petty the rpc can be so I'm always wary, sorry not sorry. if someone is telling you something about me I hope you will have the decency to come to me about it instead of blinding believing what they have to say. I'm doing the best I can, but I know I haven't always been a saint nor am I immune to making mistakes.
otherwise, re: above point, if the reason I'm losing followers is in fact benign, and because I simply haven't been as active... I guess I'm better off without them, because this is my blog and I won't always be active or engaging with my dash. I try to, I really do, and I try to be supportive and present. I don't want to believe that folks would be so petty, but like I said, I know how people can be.
re: above 2 points, as stated in my rules, please don't softblock me ! thanks~
I will continue being spotty here cuz as I've stated I just haven't had the energy or inspiration for tumblr or roleplay. but I'm always available on Discord, and I promise I'm not leaving, I promise I'm still interested in things I have going on. I'm just not forcing myself to be here, and I hope yall can respect that.

RECENT ECOMMERCE NEWS (INCLUDING ETSY), Early June 2024
I am really slammed at the moment, so instead of a long intro, I'll hop right into the latest ecommerce news, including a ton of things going on at Etsy.
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
Incorrect Etsy shop suspensions continue at a hot pace right now; I wrote about another one here on LinkedIn, and made an Etsy forum thread. The shop was reopened within 24 hours of my post. There was also good news in the story of HeatherJordanJewelry. Etsy has decided to refund her the money she lost on the 2 cases opened after Etsy closed her shop.
Still think Etsy isn’t serious about sellers who ship after their processing times? The corporation is now sending shop owners warnings that they will be deindexed in a month if they do not improve their shipping metrics before then.
I’ve reached out to the seller for more details but haven’t yet heard back.
eBay is testing Venmo as a payment option. They are also removing American Express as a credit card option.
ETSY NEWS
A small number of Etsy sellers are reporting their items showing as sold out when they are actually available; Etsy is looking into it, but upping the quantity (when available) seems to fix the issue.
In what may have been an accidental early release of a new Etsy feature, sharp-eyed sellers noticed that Etsy was inserting a video slot into some shops’ listings even when there was no video. Here is a screenshot (courtesy PriddeyThings):
When sellers clicked the “Request a video” button, they were told a request had been sent, but the seller did not receive anything. This is such a bad way to encourage more videos. Some sellers already receive pretty disgusting Messages asking for shots of them posing with/wearing the product for sale, and now they get to deal with video requests as well?
Etsy Ads costs are all over the place for some sellers recently, oscillating back and forth by day [post by me on Patreon].
Etsy is testing AI overviews of reviews, and they are about as popular with sellers as you might guess [Reddit thread; includes screenshot]. The good news for OOAK and most vintage sellers is that they only appear on items that are listed in multiples.
While non-US sellers have been reporting issues with Etsy’s new listing page and the domestic pricing tool for a year now, there are now some US sellers complaining of both listing price changes not sticking, and of shipping profile errors.
No, the Etsy "new shop boost" does not last very long - and I have the citations to prove it. [post by me on Tumblr]
If you are having trouble installing the latest version of the Sell on Etsy app, make sure all previous versions have been removed from your phone
Sellers in the EU who have been unable to opt out of Offsite Ads should try again, as this seller in France managed to get Support to help out.
Etsy is surveying sellers on their shipping practices and marking items shipped, but it is unclear why [post by me on LinkedIn]. Some sellers who were asked about specific orders are concerned they might be in trouble due to carrier delays or errors.
An Etsy staff member posted what can be described as a “newbie guide to Etsy Messages” in the Etsy forum. About a year too late to prevent many of the scams…
Sadly, this NPR podcast [podcast with transcript] has a lot of errors in it - e.g., vintage and supplies were on Etsy since the beginning - but it is correct that the fight between investors and sellers is at the core of what is wrong with the site today.
Any Canadian seller wondering how Etsy deals with GST/HST, provincial sales taxes and even income taxes will find this article useful. My older blog post on the GST debacle is still valid on the GST/HST questions, but it is rather long due to highlighting the issues rather than just explaining what a seller needs to do.

ECOMMERCE NEWS (minus social media)
Amazon
Amazon has FAA approval for flying its delivery drones longer distances. “Amazon is set to “immediately” scale its operations in College Station, Texas, so it can fly more drones and make deliveries in more densely populated areas that are farther out.”
eBay
eBay is testing AI searches; at least they admit it may be inaccurate.
As of July 8, eBay is banning use of Bluecare Express and Aquiline as shipping carriers, which some sellers have used to circumvent dropshipping rules.
Coming soon: the ability for US sellers to use eBay’s International Shipping services to ship domestically to Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.
Shopify
Shopify’s “Shop” app - which allows consumers to look through many different sites that run through Shopify - had a “Shop Cash” promotion in the US last week, allowing users to earn extra credits towards future purchases. The Shop app is getting successful enough to start being counted as a marketplace-equivalent.
Shopify now owns “Checkout Blocks”, an app that helps with easy customization of the checkout process. It will now be free to all Shopify Plus members.
All Other Marketplaces
GoImagine has been sending out invites to lapsed sellers, boasting of better dashboards, and offering 2 months free. They still do not seem that interested in seller concerns about poor traffic, as this Reddit thread demonstrates. [It's worth noting that Etsy had only 7 million sellers in the first quarter; GoImagine seems to be using figures based on all 3 of Etsy's marketplaces (including Depop & Reverb), but badly out of date ones, as active sellers on all 3 marketplaces were 9.1 million in the first quarter, not 8.3 million. Not exactly inspiring confidence!]
Temu’s user numbers mean it now will have to comply with the EU’s Digital Services Act as a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP). “DSA obligations for VLOPs include assessing and mitigating systemic risks related to their services such as the listing and sale of counterfeit goods, unsafe or illegal products, and items that infringe intellectual property rights.” This might be good news for businesses who have had their photos stolen and posted there.
Payment Processing
PayPal is building its own ad network. “The company plans to expand [“Advanced Offers”] to sell ads to brands outside of its merchant network that could be displayed across the web and connected TV.”

Why do you think the new Breakaway cast hasn’t been allowed to post their costumes yet? I also saw a mic post on someone’s story that showed a teal one in the style of the main six? What do you think this is for?
It takes a day or two for just about every NCL cast to be allowed to post. Some of that is going to be due to them just not having wi-fi every day, but there have been plenty of times where they’ve had access to wi-fi and been posting about opening night/debut both the night of and the day after (sometimes posting/re-posting blurred or onstage photos) and still no photos. Then a few days later half of them will suddenly all post the photos at once. There seems to still be some form of approval process that photos and/or costumes still have to go through before they can be posted, even though these casts don’t have a photo ban since we’ve sometimes seen before.
The alts are the same: they basically always wait a day or two to share any photos. The other queens will wait as well. Sometimes they’ll all be posting “congratulations on your xyz debut” but again, oftentimes with no photos or only very blurred audience ones. Sometimes the alts will also post some sort of “sneak peak” of their costume, often with a comment about how they’ll “post more when they can.” And the second the alts post the photo, the rest of the principals will often post theirs as well.
It’s all just way too coordinated for there to not be some level of approval that most, if not all, alts/costumes/casts have to go through. It is worth noting that all costumes always do have to get approved at some point, for any cast/production. But with US Tours/Broadway that always happens significantly earlier, during tech or previews if not earlier. With NCL it seems to be that they don’t get a final sign off until later, maybe until tech or opening night for some shows (they also have a much shorter tech period than mainland shows). That might have to do with accessibility for fittings during rehearsals: the mainland actors rehearse in New York, where the costume team is located as well. But NCL holds rehearsals in Florida and they don’t usually go back to NYC for fittings during that, even thought the costumes are still in progress. Some actors do initial fittings in New York prior to the rehearsals starting and some do some of their fittings in Florida, but the specifics of all that isn’t particularly clear. And even once they board the ship, they may still not be able to get final approval during tech for any number of reasons (again it’s very short which may factor in). My guess would be that NCL casts just don’t get to do their final approval stages until they’re actually on the ship and at least teching/maybe initial debut, and that’s why we often have some level of delay.
And yeah, Sasha Renae Brown posted this photo of mics:
Yes, there’s a teal. No, we’re not going to see alt costumes. All the mics are labeled with the names of who is supposed to use them: Aragon, Boleyn, etc. If that was dependent on just principal or just alt, we’d see the names of specific actors like you can see on the line above! They’ve done the same thing for past Breakaway (and Bliss) casts in the principal costumes. This is most likely a backup mic. If an actor’s handheld fails during the show, they have one on easy backup that can be grabbed sidestage. It’s likely Elizabeth Walker’s old one from 1.0 that they kept for that purpose; Liv Alexander’s was used as a backup before but has since been repurposed.

almost comedic how many issues ive had with the abbacchio nendoroid. first i preorder it from amazon in like october and amazon delays the shipping by over a Month. so i cancel it
and i'm like oh i'll go to A Different Website to get it. and then it's stuck processing for like two weeks, and then it takes another week to ship. THEN i finally get it and the neck joint hardcore breaks. and i have to get the peg out of it by drilling into it with a really tiny drill bit and beating the shit out of it with a tiny screwdriver until the peg comes out. fortunately there's a replacement neck joint! so i put it in and then i FINALLY get abbacchio's silly little head onto his body. and i'm like yay!
and well guess what? the hole on his back. it's too small. the stand piece literally, licherally, legiterally Does Not Fit! his hole is too small!!!!!! friends are like "yeah just push it in there" so i try to push it in there and the little teensy tiny clear plastic peg thing FLIES out of the stand support thing. it's somewhere in my room now. i don't know if i'll ever find it (i have carpet that's kinda shaggy so RIP to that little piece of plastic...)
the struggle i've gone through for this little pisser...
#ive seen about getting a refund or partial refund maybe but the place i ordered this from is kind of atrocious with slow service so.#im hesitant to send it back on account of the fact that i might have to wait forever to get my money back. ADFLGKJAGF
