A word on unknown gods.
It’s hard, isn’t it? Finding someone that looks interesting/right up your alley but not being able to find jack shit on them? Oh it’s sooo annoying.
But you know what’s the great thing?
You can reach out to them in any way you like.
Even if you’re not entirely sure about an offering, give it anyway. Reach out and try.
And if you’re someone who uses divination..
ASK THEM!!
Like aw man. Ask ask ask.
Help spread the word on your favorite smaller deities. Even if it’s a lot of upg shit. Try. Try for them and for others who may love them too.
[Currently working on a very long post that will be dedicated to the deity Dolos/Dolus. Next to none information on him and right now it’s just a lot of talking to him, asking yes and no questions and trying my best while also being a beginner. But I want to try for him. And I’d like to say that’s what counts.]

My reasoning for 'Dolan' is cause 'Dolos/Dolus' is a Greek deity of trickery and the like, but Dante seems like an awesome name (prismartist's trivia would provide an excellent reason, too)
i like that theory too, that’s really interesting!

It’s been a year since I published The Sun’s Paces, a collection of thirty-six poems dedicated to the range of Mediterranean deities that ruled the thirty-six decans or faces of the sky — the ten-degree-wide windows that trisect each sign of the Zodiac. Here are hymns to the Headless One and to Dolus, to Osiris and to Hekate, to Oceanos and Isis, to Serapis and Kairos. Each hymn explores some aspect of human life, as well, whether truthfulness or celebration, mysteries or business, sorrow and loneliness.
There’s a spell, of sorts, that you can perform with these hymns and with other work: The Decans Walk. For every ten day period that the Sun spends in a Decan, from the Spring Equinox to late March 2019 — let one of these hymns drive your meditations, your magical spell craft, and your real-world actions. In a year, you’ll have wrought an enormous amount of change, and you’ll find yourself on a new trajectory toward success, as you enlist the powers of the Decans in the changes you wish to bring to your life.

In light of your recent post about dolus, I do introductory posts for deities (started this week) and I was wondering if you'd be sharing your information? I do divination and a lot of my "UPG" stuff is just me asking what they like.
Oh yes!! I’ll be sharing everything I can gather. Which isn’t a lot but that’s why I’m reaching out to him often as well. It’s been fun! :) I hope to have it posted by the end of the week or maybe before then!!

Working with gods that are known for being tricksters but getting none of that from them is simultaneously hilarious and also slightly saddening since I’d love that funny slight prankster energy from them. The only ways Hermes and Dolos play tricks on me is if I do he direct opposite of what they asked of me (sometimes on purpose I’m sorry) and they, understandably, hand me my ass for it.
This is a formal apology to Hermes and Dolos.

Dolus/Dolos, god of trickery, craftiness, and cunning deception
I’d say the majority of people that work with Greek deities have either not heard of Dolus or haven’t looked into him. Well, for the latter you wouldn’t find very much anyway so I don’t blame you.
I felt drawn to him when I had happened to stumble upon his name during some research with an unrelated project. Reaching out to Dolus was an easy thing to do, but what wasn’t easy was tackling how to exactly work with him or even worship him.
There’s basically nothing on this guy. Like next to nothing.
There is one main myth, but that is all there is on him which is incredibly unfortunate. I’ll put the Aesopic fable he’s mentioned in at the end if you want to skim it, but it doesn’t have his personality in it at all, or all too much about him. It does show off the “craftiness” title of his, though.
Some may not know if Dolus is a good fit for you if you’re interested. But from the little time I’ve known him I would say his expertise stretches way beyond what you may think. But, primarily he would be great for those of you who work with other trickster gods and the like. But also anyone that wants to try out types of divination that are a bit more niche and strengthening your intuition.
Depending on one of the two literature quotes you can find very easily on his theoi page, Dolus is either the son of Nyx or Gaia. Going forward and on any post I make on him (if it comes up) I’ll be addressing him as the son of Nyx, though.
His personality is one that may catch you off guard, as he, with me anyway, goes from such a kind and warm energy to one that has me wandering what the fuck I did to deserve him playing jokes on me I don’t understand half the time. (All in good fun I’m just terrible with social cues) But that’s the fun of working with him. I’m learning to let loose a bit more and find hobbies that actually tap into my more.. “craftier” side for lack of a better word that doesn’t sound like a really horrid pun.
I’m not great at tarot reading, or just that type of divination in general. Which is unfortunate since I’d like to be quite good at it. Dolus is someone that caught onto this rather quickly, noting my horrid shuffling and how long it took me to interpret cards and such. If you’re in the same boat at me, he’s your guy. The energy that filled my room was one of patience and understanding, but also an energy that wanted to push me to actually dedicate myself to learning the craft.
When I decided I wanted to help him set up more things to associate him with, I don’t think I’ll ever forget the warmth I felt from him. It was a moment that helped me decide that I’d love to do something like this for other gods too. Ones that are either buried or are too intimidating to reach out to because there’s such little knowledge out there. I hope this encourages others to do the same. It’s an incredibly rewarding task, as it also helps you develop a close relationship with said deity.
I’ll have a separate post I’ll link right here that gives you a nice idea for what you could put on an altar for him. In the future, I’ll be mentioning him a lot more, hoping to fill up his tags until it’s filled with people other than me lol.
His Theoi page.
Devotional activities and things to put on an altar: here.
I also have what he looks like to me here.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I know this isn’t super thorough, but I’ll update with anything else that comes to mind or make another post soon. 🩶

Working with and worshiping the god of trickery and cunning deception, Dolos.
Little disclaimer: this isn’t *official* although technically nothing is. This was all found through talking with him and asking about his likes and dislikes.
Plus, this is also so you can feel encouraged to talk to him yourself and discover what else he may like from a devotee! He’s so unbelievably kind, don’t feel shy when reaching out to him. He just looks intimidating but that’s all talk ;)

How the gods appear to me pt. 1
Looking at posts filled with how different the gods look to every individual is so fascinating to me. I absolutely love it. I think it’s one of the more fun and fascinating aspects of working with them so closely. So I thought I’d try my hand at trying to describe how they look to me too. These are just the gods I work with constantly/worship on a day to day basis. There are a few others I’ve encountered but haven’t seen enough to develop a full picture or even half a picture of what they look like.
Sometimes they’ll look like their statues/paintings, sometimes they very much do not.
Dolus | god of trickery
His demeanor is very relaxed, carrying himself with an aura that makes your back straighten. His smile of amusement makes me fuck up my words. You know, that type of subtle curl of the lip that makes you forget the English language. His way of dressing is so interesting, even though I can never get a complete visual of it, just little details here and there. He’s around 5’11 to my 5’2-5’3 LOL. Dolus also has the prettiest hands you can imagine, paired with pretty pale skin. To me, anyway. 😄
Hypnos / god of sleep
Moving onto his lovely brother Hypnos, to nobody’s surprise his demeanor is very warm and welcoming. When he smiles you can’t help but gush a little bit and smile too. Sometimes when I amuse him, I get lucky enough to see his wings flutter and it’s a joy each time. He carries himself in a very relaxed manner once again to nobody’s surprise. As well as being soft spoken, he’s very patient with me still getting into the groove of being a devotee.
Helios | sun god
Very casual looking guy, to me anyway. He’s never in something very dressy. It’s always just very casual clothing. Maybe it’s because of the jokingly antagonistic relationship we’ve developed. His smile is indeed like a ray of sunshine and it’s wonderful to look at. I joke that his shade of blue eyes is a bit scary. They do remind me of what it would be like to look directly at the sun.
My favorite devotional activity is still cursing at the sun and hearing his hearty laughter.
