Well… He isn't surprised. Jamil Viper doesn't get nice things. Not for more than a few months, anyway.

Every once in a while, life takes pity on him and throws some nice, agreeable news his way. Just enough so that he lets his guard down. Just enough so that he allows himself to think maybe things will get better. Just enough so that he can pretend he isn't chained to a fate he will never escape.

A letter to NRC, a plan that goes a little too well, a couple of upperclassmen who seem to genuinely love him for who he is and not who he pretends to be.

So of course it doesn't last. Life gives and life takes.

Kalim follows, Octavinelle gets involved, Leona and Vil-

Well…

He isn't surprised.

Jamil Viper doesn't get nice things.

Vil

They look at him like they expect something from him. Horror, anger, ugly tears maybe. Just a reaction. Anything. Anything at all.

Vil doesn't give them that. Doesn't give them an opportunity to pity him. Doesn't give them food for gossip. Doesn't give them any material to make this topic last for any longer than it has to.

He knows how it works. Someone snaps a pic of him at his lowest, someone records his voice breaking during an interview, someone catches his lips tremble for but a second, and everybody will start talking about it again. And again. And again. For as long as there is a reaction from him. For as long as the topic attracts views.

Suffering brings more views than success.

So Vil doesn't react. Doesn't say a thing. Doesn't acknowledge the topic.

Better to be a cold asshole for a few weeks than to hear about it for years.

And in the darkness of his own room, where there is no camera, no eyes, and no ears to witness his grief-

Vil cries himself to sleep.

Leona

It’s just sand.

Only sand.

For miles and miles, further than the eye can see, nothing but sand.

Ruggie had the clever foresight to send all of Savanaclaw packing when Leona got the news. They would be sand too otherwise.

Who cares.

He could turn the whole world to sand and it wouldn't be enough.

He might as well turn his own heart into sand.

I was thinking abt your Lucky Clover au (as i often do) and decided to make a sprite animation of Clover and Frisk ‼️

I loved drawing their designs! They look so silly i love them

OH MY GOODNESS! What a lovely surprise this was in my inbox!

This is some gorgeous sprite work! I love how you've rendered these designs, the little details like Frisk's hair clips and the ribbon on Clover's hair tie being a thinner outline, Clover's big poofy ponytail and the tassels on their poncho, I love it! This is so well polished they could be plopped right into an Undertale game!

And such a cute concept OMG... they're doing the Toriel hand hold while walking... this pose is adorable! I also love that Clover is smiling whereas Frisk has their usual neutral expression, just gah, so many small details to love and notice! This is absolutely warming my heart!

Thank you so much for this beautiful gift! And thank you for the kind words about Lucky Clover AU oh my gosh, hearing that someone else thinks about it (other than myself haha) is so flattering!

Starry night🌌🌌 part 3 of my commemorating first playthrough of bg3!

This scene broke me the first time and absolutely solidified my love for it as well. Just such a beautiful scene. So it was extremely intimidating trying to paint as I’m still new to the medium. Though it’s definitely my favorite of this series of paintings for sure. I literally look forward to this moment every playthrough. Ugh we love Gale fr close up of the cuties below!

#YES THEM BEING THERE IS EXACTLY WHY I TOLD MY BROTHER TO GO THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE ('there' being tower records in japan)#but i find it so funny that the cashier actually remarked on that fact too #anyway. you need to know that i'm feeling so very AAAAHHHH right now. all of these are such a big deal to me #i didn't think i'd actually own KMH ON VINYL at any point #also utterly shocked about the guerilla toss CD. very exciting to have that one too #they're one of my fav bands and i implore everyone who likes unhinged and very experimental and cacophonic rock to check them out #this album (eraser stargazer) isn't the most accessible thing there is out there but i really love it #(i don't even know how to describe it properly. it's just really something to behold anyway)#the plushie is also a gift from my brother!! i'll gladly take any name suggestions for him #oh and also sparks debut album. first album that i own both on CD and vinyl as of today #it's not even that it's my fav sparks album or anything (i do really love it though and it's definitely somewhere in my top ten)#it's just that some albums feel more like they 'fit' with the vinyl format than CD in sound. to me at least #one other example of that besides this one being gratsax #ok i think that's all i have to say about this. one of the most epic hauls of my life that's for sure #OH WAIT one more thing. somewhat unfortunate actually #which is that my brother said he's pretty sure he saw a latte vinyl #but when he passed by that section again like 10 minutes later he already couldn't find it. oh latte.......#it's ok i'll have it one day. i'm really curious what went down there though. did someone really snag it in those 10 minutes???#and yes in case you're worried i did thank my brother profusely for getting me all this #and now i'm going to force him to listen to the TMBG vinyl with me so that he's PREPARED FOR THE CONCERT #that's in 3 months and that he's know about for a year and a half. ok i'm done now #goosepost

See the thing is. I know I'm good at writing. Like I have my weak areas or things I need to improve in, but it's not a skill I otherwise spend a lot of time feeling insecure about because a) if I don't believe in my writing literally who will b) if I want to publish my writing I ought to at least feel a resting level of good about it because editors and agents likely will not be cradling my face like a prize cat and telling me how talented I am while asking for their edits c) I've always had an audience for my writing even at its worst– I started sharing my original works online when I was around 16 & that really helped sell to me the idea of 'there will always be someone out there who likes what you do' d) untalented men never think this hard about the quality of their works and they always end up published anyway and e) I don't have many other thoroughly developed skills so why not have one I feel good about. Having said this. Awkward feeling to realize you're one of the authorial weak links in your postgraduate creative writing degree's social circle

#part of the issue is definitely also like. i am good at what i do! its just that im the only one doing it #40 people in my fuckass degree and im the only one who writes fantasy fiction. we had one more girl but she did romance & dropped out #(to be an agent) (this isnt a sad story)#but yeah no im mostly surrounded by very talented poets and screenwriters. which makes my works seem a little. frivolous. in comparison #and my friends especially are so fucking talented it makes me ill. and they engage politely with me about my writing but its also #superficial and i cant blame them because its simply not what they write/what theyre interested in! i feel the same about poetry #but my friend actually seemed surprised a while ago when i mentioned a thing id been writing and i joked that it looked like she was #surprised i could have good ideas and she didnt answer. and like. man.#i am a good writer! i fucking know im a good writer but im a good FANTASY writer and these people are. different writers and theyre good an #im floundering in this environment next to them and theres something not as like.. artistic in what i do its so fucking embarrassing #and they also display just such a lack of curiosity as to others' writing like.. they wont check the moodle forum to read what the others i #our module have uploaded for each assignment?? like arent you even just CURIOUS? but now im also just wondering if theyre like 🤞 this #with each other in a way that excludes me and my stupid flop ass fiction. i dont know. its just so silly. everyone always talks about #finding community in writing groups & degrees & such and that is exactly the last and most isolating place ive ever been insofar as my #writing goes. like at least way back in high school no one cared in general. here people do care. just not about what i can bring to the #table. although again i really dont know if this is a larger scale lack of curiosity/involvement in others works so i digress.#notnow #tbd #sorry this is a very priveleged complaint to have i AM deeply enjoying my degree and ik im so lucky to get to go where i attend. i just #occasionally feel sad. and knowing i failed my last assignment (which WAS fiction) (one chance to prove myself! cute) isnt helping much #if the poetrypeople are better at me even in the thing im meant to be good at. baby we're about to enter the mental health meat grinder.#but we stay silly. i think i just need to find people online etc to talk to about writing again like i did at 17.#just full insanity paragraph analysis. that was fun. i enjoyed that.

And I did them on my own! :D Extra pleased with myself :3 #My slightly cocky attitude of ''Well that was frustrating - luckily I'll never run into another problem again'' amuses me lol #'Cause in the moment everything's flying! The code comes together lovely and it's all great! And then I come up to the next thing #Something I haven't done before - something that there's no Direct how-to of how to do a thing #Like setting player-and-character pronouns! I didn't know how to do that! But I figured it out!! :0 What a rush haha #It really did take me an evening of knocking my head against the wall in attempts - I waaaayyy overcomplicated it to start haha #I was like - trying to set up a system that would call on specific pronoun sets individually based on player input #Ridiculous - so much easier to just slap some values into an envelope and have those tied to a specific shell lol #But that took all night! I got sleepy while working on it and even my drowsy brain was like Wait...what am I supposed to check against? Haha #Such a weird experience subconsciously as well :0 'Cause I had normal dreams that night #Maybe some slight code-adjacent dreams of A Screen With Text On It but that could be anything :P #Most of it was just normal dream melodrama - but in the few times I woke up to readjust or roll over or pull my blanket #It was juuuuust enough for my ''conscious'' brain to kick in and think about what to compare against - what structure would work #And so by the time I woke up proper I had to frantically write down a bunch of code in a spare word document so I wouldn't go stir crazy lol #Breakfast must wait! Dailies must wait! I Have to write this down!!#And when I implemented it - it worked exactly as I hoped it would and is much much Muuuuuch simpler to call upon haha #Wow! That was a weird fluke that definitely won't happen again! Haha #I don't actually believe that I just have no way of guessing which aspect will trip me up - This Should Be Easy! And then it isn't lol #Definitely didn't predict the second - Especially because other than a small roadbump of not knowing how to Shell-Switch (ty again Cherry ♥)#Everything up to then was going well and everything after that was going fine! Until The One Thing happened pffbtl #I wanted to assign a value to check if a specific piece of code was being called upon - basically a fork between two outcomes #That went fine! The value Was changing! But only the first fork was being called???#No lol I just didn't put the second = ugh pft - and what's more frustrating is that I'd been using == up to that point!! I'd been warned!!!!#I - for some reason - was convinced that using && would make the value check Only need to check If x = 1... That's not how it works......#It's an If statement! If x = 1 then why do I have to check IF x == 1! Just check!!! Hwagh rules and whatnot lol #Like I said it's all fixed now but sheesh! What a silly mistake! I knew better!! And now I double know better haha

Hey Nonny!

I actually answered this question very recently, so I'll just copy-paste the blurb I wrote about it from there:

FTH is “Fandom Trumps Hate”, an annual fandom creative labour [event] to raise money for non-profit organizations doing amazing things in the world to combat hatred and bigotry. It happens every February, and basically creatives sign up to offer their labour (art, writing, crafts, proofreading… it’s really open to anything that the participant is open to doing) for people to bid on, auction-style, and the winning bid goes to the creative’s chosen non-profit. You can read more about it on their FAQ on their Tumblr!

Basically, @fandomtrumpshate is similar to a silent auction, where you input your bid for a creator's labour, essentially commissioning a creative with the winning bid going to the chosen organization. It's ALL manual though (not like e-bay) so you have to pretty much keep a sharp eye on the creatives you want to make sure you get the winning bid at the end of the week. All of us creators that participate yearly in the auction do it because we WANT to make the world a better place for everyone <3

It happens at the end of every February since 2017 (created in response to the political landscape at the time [and currently, honestly]) , with bidding usually happening at the beginning of March.

They also have a sibling auction called @marveltrumpshate that I just found out about last year (and probably will participate in this year if I only do two auctions for FTH), which is SPECIFIC to the various iterations of the Marvel Multiverse <3 I THINK they're in November.

I have been participating in it with fanart for the past 5 years, and I LOVE doing it. It's fun, and it gives me a boost of confidence to see people want to bid on me.

This year is a RECORD number of creators participating in FTH, over ONE THOUSAND!!! I'm SO excited to see how much good that those 1000 auctions are going to bring in for the non-profits.

I hope that helps a bit, and like I mentioned, check out FTH's official FAQ for any additional questions, but I will try my best to help you answer any others you have!
