I am your housecarl, my Thane. I'm sworn to carry your burdens (and smuggle them over the fence).
Hey, remember when I was talking about Midgardsblot last month? Well that magical festival brought together the Tumblr meetup of the century, and I finally got to meet the absolutely incredible @snippetsrus in the flesh (we were even tent neighbours and she baked the best almond cookies ever).
Anyway, just thought I would share that, because I consider all 11k or so of you to be my friends. All your support great and small is so appreciated and I hope I get to meet more of you soon!
Stay safe, eat well, be kind. ~Tal

WIP Wednesday
I was tagged by: @thequeenofthewinter, @hircines-hunter, @bostoniangirl21 and @throughtrialbyfire. Y'all are lovely. ❤️❤️❤️ I will tag @rainpebble3 because while I know you just posted a chapter... I'm always excited for more. XD
So, while I was working on Snowflake's Chance, Vilkas and the others ran into Captain Tril and his family again (including his two adopted children: Aventus and Sofie). And every once in a while I like to do what-if fics for the Skyrim kids as adults. So, I started one for Aventus. And this snippet is from that. -
His parents were sitting on a stone bench, sharing lunch, and Aventus stopped a moment to study them. His father, Captain Tril was a heavily scarred Reachman, dressed in his usual guard uniform, with brown hair and golden-brown eyes that gave away his werewolf nature to anyone who suspected. His mother, Nai, a Reachwoman who dressed always in long-skirts to show off her tailoring skills, kept her blonde hair caught back in the golden net Aventus had helped Sofie design for her last birthday.
The sight of them sitting so peacefully together brought Aventus pause, and he shuffled his feet, wondering if he could put off his news.
"Did you need something Aventus?" Tril asked, turning his gaze on him.
Of course he heard me. I'm being ridiculous. He moved closer. "A Dark Brotherhood assassin just killed Urzoga gra-Shugurz," he reported.
Instantly, Tril was on his feet. "You saw them?"
He nodded. "She used a dart. Urzoga didn't even see it coming, and then I followed her to Rhiada's house."
"Are you alright?" Nai asked, rising and moving toward him.
"I've seen dead bodies before," he responded. "Not usually until after they've been dead a bit, but wasn't nearly so messy as what the butcher did."
She grimaced, glancing at her husband. "I'll clean up lunch."
He nodded. "Aventus, I want you to head up to the temple after you give me the assassin's description. If she realized you spotted her, you could be in danger."
Rocking back on his heels, he considered it. "Redguard woman with graying hair, in a light blue dress. Walks like a fighter. Average height. Definitely never seen her in Markarth before."
"Good. Now shoo."
Nai gave him a quick hug. "Listen to your father," she murmured. "Assassins are not to be trifled with."
"I know that, ma," he said, disengaging and heading toward the stairs. Wonder what happened to that little vampire who killed Grelod. She was interesting. Wonder how many people know what she is.
Sofie and Fjotra were lounging on a stone bench as he neared the temple entrance, Sofie wandering over to him, her smile full of mischief. "What are you up to little bro?" she asked, leaning on his shoulder.
He pushed her away with a withering glare, rolling his eyes when she laughed. It had become obvious when he was around fifteen that he was going to take after his Imperial father in height, and Sofie consequently lorded it over him every chance she got.
"Dibella says you've got questions about some things," Fjotra said. "I didn't know she talks to you."
"Little bit," he admitted, following her into the temple, knowing that Dibella would have told her why he was up there.
"She can't talk as easily to anyone who isn't me," she said smugly, glancing furtively around to make sure none of the older priestesses heard her boasting.
"She said that Rhiada comes to ask for vengeance against the Silver-Bloods and their former overseers," he said bluntly, choosing a chair and flopping into it, studying the familiar room. "I asked why she hadn't given it to her."
"She's not a Goddess of vengeance, Aventus," she laughed. "Even artists she favors get in trouble when they try to undermine their rivals through violent means."

Writer tag game
I wasn’t tagged, but I saw the game via @coyote-nebula and want to play anyway!
1. how many works do you have on AO3?
43 works
2. what's your total AO3 word count?
148,937
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Right now just Detroit: Become Human
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
tell the shades apart (my world is black and white)
Reflection
The 43rd Hour
Holding On
these dead roses bloom once more
5. do you respond to comments?
All of the comments with substance, yes!
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Brushing aside works that contain canonical character death, probably a place where the water touches the sky, even though it’s an ambiguous ending.
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I don’t know if there’s one with an ending that’s more definitively happy than everything else, but bombshell has a very fun, flirty ending.
8. do you get hate on fics?
No outright hate, but I have received a handful of comments that basically amounted to “what you wrote in this story isn’t to my tastes and I'm going to tell you why you should've written what I wanted to read,” which. Y’know. Dldr 🙃
9. do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do, though I’ve never publicly posted anything more explicit than a fade-to-black. Mostly I’ve written collaborative scenes with friends, either full-blown role-play style or more spur-of-the-moment snapshots than highly structured, fully fleshed out scenes. If I’m writing by myself, I tend to lean harder toward sensual and less toward outright E-rated PWP.
10. do you write crossovers?
Not in the strictest sense, although I’ve thrown ideas around with friends, absolutely. I’m more inclined to full-on AUs (e.g., the DBH characters in the Star Wars universe but not interacting with all of the canon SW characters). I tend to lose interest in projects too quickly to sustain crossovers or AUs of significant size.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Absolutely, it's actually my preferred way to write.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Starkiller/Juno was a formative one for me.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
The Skyrim rewrite. I have a solid 25,000-plus words hanging around, but they barely scratch the surface of the canon story, and I don’t play the game anymore, so. It languishes. I occasionally reread the Battle of Whiterun scene I wrote, though, because I do love it v much.
16. What are your writing strengths?
A tightly bound trinity of subtext, showing instead of telling, and descriptions. I always joke I never write text, I only write subtext. Learning how to tell sometimes instead of showing everything has been. a struggle. When I know the characters really well and can hear them clearly, my dialogue’s also excellent.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Follow-through’s the biggest one. I tend to get bored and thus uninspired fairly easily, so I usually need a strict externally imposed deadline or someone (like a coauthor) who’s otherwise waiting on my finishing a given piece for me to push through to the end. Plotting the final quarter of stories tends to give me a lot of trouble if I don’t come up with the ending right away. If I don’t know where I’m aiming, I wander aimlessly before almost inevitably moving on to another project. This is why most of my solo projects are relatively small.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Nuclear launch codes. No, seriously, it can work so, so, SO well, in VERY limited, bite-size pieces. Unless the work is intended for readers who are familiar with the languages being used, I prefer to see alternate languages used as flavor text only.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Probably Star Wars? Self-insert territory ahoy 😂
20. Favourite fic you've written?
Am I allowed to say a WIP that most people haven’t seen? No? Probably thermal equilibria, chapter two specifically. The dialogue tickles me every time I reread it.
I tag @druidx, @wamblings, @ltcolonelcarter, @audreycritter, and anyone else who wants to play!

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Tagged by the lovely @rakaiawriter ❤️
How many works do you have on A03? 5 (only been there since 2023, soo... we can add my German works on fanfiktion.de, those are 9 more plus 2 that are also on AO3)
What's your total word count? 293 727 on AO3 400.329 on fanfiktion.de
What fandoms do you write for? Currently Elder Scrolls, especially Skyrim. Planning on some general Elder Scrolls too. Earlier I've written for Hannibal, Supernatural, Mötley Crüe, Marvel's Thor (Loki), Marilyn Manson and once a terrible, terrible Rammstein fic that is now deleted.
Top 5 fics by kudos? Okay, so I only have 5 fics on AO3, so here we go: 1) Daedric Drabbles (25) 2) Doe and Wolf (21) 3) Whisky by the Sea (21) 4) Dealings with Daedra (16) 5) Siblicide (2) Fanfiktion.de has a recommendation system that's similiar to kudos, so here we go: 1) I think I'll eat your heart (27) 2) Only Human (13) 3) Whisky by the Sea (6) 4) Hey Mister Superhate, I just want to love you (5) 5) The Devilish Games That I Taught You (4)
Do you respond to comments? Yes, I always try to. I love to share my brain rot with others and loe to chat about my little stories!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I moslty write sad and devastating endings now, but angsty was the ending of The Devilish Games That I Taught You. Someone loosing their tongue by Crowley cutting it out? Much angst. But the whole last part of Dealings with Daedra too had much angst.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I do not write happy endings. Most of my endings are bittersweet and as I already said sad in nature.
Do you get hate on fics? Never gotten any, luckily. Only constructive criticism so far.
Do you write smut? Yes and I love it.
Craziest crossover? I don't do crossovers, never appealed to me and I tend to avoid reading them.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I knew of.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Ha, I'm doing that myself. Whisky by the Sea and Siblicide were originally written in German and I am currently translating Dealings with Daedra to German.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope. I'm a lone wolf *aaawuuu* (Ok, I'll stop)
All-time favorite ship? Ooof, Hannigram maybe? The chemistry between Mads and Hugh is just so gooood.
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Honestly, my Hannibal-Fic and my Loki-Fic. Only Human (Loki) needs a total rewrite because I did write a Mary-Sue there. And for I think I'll eat your heart I just don't have the hyperfocus anymore. Maybe it will come back some day.
What are your writing strengths? I think writing emotions? Also word choices and world descriptions.
What are your writing weaknesses? Living on the hyperfocus, definitely. Procrastinating. And I love to find a word and use it all over my writing. Certainly is a good example or adorned and accompanied.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? Has to be done right. Like, it really needs a purpose and not just for using the language. I'm a big fan of scattering words for the feeling. For example when writing Lori's parents in WbtS, they mostly cursed in italian. Giving Teldryn Dunmeri words is also fitting I think and I'm doing that while writing DwD II. But generally speaking, it should not disturb the flow and as I said, have purpose. Then I'm ok with it.
First fandom you ever wrote in? Marilyn Manson, I think. There is awful writing on my hard drive, you can't imagine.
Favorite fic you've written? Oof, changes. I mostly love the one I'm currently writing the most and that's also the case now. I have almost written 50k words for DwD II by now and I fucking love it.
Uhm, who to tag here? @vanilleeistee, @ladytanithia are you in for this? 😄

20 questions for fic writers
Thank you for tagging me @your-catfish-friend @made-ofmemories and I think @saybiwithme also tagged me, I'm not sure, I think I saw a notification... any ways, thank you for the tag!! :3
How many works do you have on ao3?
15
What's your total ao3 word count?
123,030
What fandoms do you write for?
Currently 9-1-1 and Stranger Things, more 9-1-1 than anything as of right now.
Top five fics by kudos:
Too busy being yours to fall for someone new (9-1-1)
Eddie's UNO Reverse (9-1-1)
When life tears you asunder, but you're not alone (Stranger Things)
Jonathan's girl (Stranger Things)
Kissing his Neck (The Mandalorian)
Do you respond to comments?
I do try to respond/answer every single one, but I do struggle on what else to say beside thank you for reading.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
To this day, this one: Eparavur takisit - Apologise (The mandalorian) I do have another angsty one, but I haven't post it... yet.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
So far, all but the one on the previous question have happy endings. If I have to pick... I'm really fond of this one A Christmas With You (We can be heroes (movie)) it's linked to a back then new friend so yeah.
Do you get hate on fics?
Thankfully, nope.
Do you write smut?
Well... I try.
Craziest crossover:
The only crossover I've ever written is an unfinished fic that's a crossover of The witcher and Skyrim... one day I shall finish it. The idea behind it is to make it a chose your own adventure kind of fic. You'll get a different ending depending on your choices, won't be anything crazy, just about two, maybe three endings and nothing so complicated since I'm not that great of a writer to pull off something more elaborated.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of and if you ever find my stuff outside of Tumblr or AO3, report it, that's definitely not me.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't think so, no one has asked for permission. Maybe one day I'll translate some of my fics to spanish since it's my first language.
Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Haha, yes! I've written more than one fic and have quite a few wips with the lovely @made-ofmemories I've had so much fun writing with her. I've loved so many of the stuff she's come up with. (We always end up with new wips whenever someone has and idea.)
All time favourite ship?
That'll be difficult, I have A LOT of ships and I just cycle through them. But right now, Buddie.
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I may have more than one, they're old reader inserts that I'm not sure I'll finish since the flame for those characters is pretty low.
What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Descriptive text, I can see the stuff happening in my head as if it's a movie but I struggle so much to turn what's happening there into words. Even more so make it sound beautiful.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
For my fics, if I know the languageand the character(s) have also used the language, hell yes, you'll see some phrases. And on that note the only other language I know is my first language which is Spanish, so yeah. Not comfortable using a translator or dictionary for any other language.
First fandom you wrote in?
Like ever? I don't know, I started writing in middle school. oh! i just remembered! It was for an anime, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch... and it was, it was really bad.
Favourite fic you've written?
I haven't posted it yet guys so ._.
No pressure tags!
@wikiangela @wildlife4life @thewolvesof1998 @hippolotamus @bidisasterevankinard @eddiebabygirldiaz @loserdiaz @crowleywasagryffindor @theotherbuckley @jesuisici33 @missmagooglie @daffi-990 @pirrusstuff @giddyupbuck @neverevan @exhuastedpigeon Anyone who wants to do it!

Fic Author Self-Rec!
tagged by the lovely @mareenavee , thank you so much!! <3
tagging @dirty-bosmer @orfeoarte @gilgamish @umbracirrus @totally-not-deacon @v1ctory-or-sovngarde @thequeenofthewinter and YOU!! no pressure to participate, and if you haven't written 5 fics, feel free to just talk about whichever ones you have!!
Rules:
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love!
i'm going to paste each fics summary, and then go on my tangents!
An Inner Sanctity
Two months after attempting to utilize the Eye of Magnus and gain it's power, Ancano wakes up in an unfamiliar cottage, being cared for by the very person he intended to destroy. Navigating their strange and new dynamic, the Thalmor agent finds he may be offered second chance at life, but whether or not he takes it is another story.
this fic is a huge work of exploration into what indoctrination can do to someone who has never known any different, and how that can affect things as broad as worldviews and as personal as one-on-one dynamics with people. it's also partially catharsis-fic, as giving ancano some of my own mental and physical issues and dialing it up to 10000000000% is a hell of a lot of fun. i love seeing that old man suffer and then earn his rise from the ashes. plus, using athenath in a fic where they cant rely on the other two of the trio - as this is in an AU i call the "athenath solo run" - forces me to think of how they would handle situations on his own. spoiler? not too well.
it's on a hiatus at the moment despite having a pretty long backlog, i just don't have the motivation right now to edit and write more for it, but that definitely will change in the future, because i really love exploring ancano's psyche and how he begins to grow and change.
also the fic title comes from the song "Twilight" by Bôa, while that doesnt have anything to do with the fic, i loved the line "you give me an inner sanctity", sooooo <3
The Mark You Left
Two scientists realize, upon losing contact with Dr. Richtofen, that they are truly alone in the aftermath of their actions.
i don't have 5 fics for TES, so have my singular CoD Zombies fic as well! i've had a special interest in the ultimis timeline of CoD Zombies since uhhhh 2011? maybe? sometimes it lays dormant for months and then all of the sudden i think about it daily, especially the dynamics between Dr. Schuster, Dr. Richtofen, and Dr. Groph. so, i wrote this as a bit of a loveletter to a fandom i no longer am part of, but still have a lot of fondness for. it's a quick read that hits on this concept of ultimate betrayal in the aftermath of literally betraying someone else for that person. two people dealing with that, processing that, and what they'll do in the wake of all of this.
the title for this fic comes from the song "Birds" by BENN, who used to make CoD Zombies-based songs before rewriting/redoing them for his own original work!!
Portraits Under Forgotten Suns
A collection of short one-shot fics done for TESFest 2023. A werewolf in his cage, a Bosmer alchemists' first memory, a Dunmer mage's quiet contemplation, a humble keeper's last look at the place he's called home, a sailor's fate at the wreck of the Brinehammer, and an Altmer bard's fond summer memory.
as it says on the tin! its a series of one-shots i initially published to tumblr, then moved to Ao3 to make them more accessible and have a ready archive of them! i loved working on each of these, getting into different perspectives, and figuring out how to convey the narratives of the characters i worked with. i liked writing up details of my dragonborn trio's pasts, too, and the story for "Forgotten/Devotion" was a hell of a lot of fun, getting to pull the wreck of the brinehammer into a fic!
If by Sun and Moon I Swore
With the Empire's victory in the Skyrim Civil War, Hadvar has been quietly readjusting to regular life. When an old friend turns up at his door, that quiet he'd hoped for comes to a halt.
i love hadvar/ralof with all my wretched pining heart okay. i cannot deny this pair has a vice grip on me! and working with them, two soldiers touched by war on opposite sides who once had something (in this case, used to be (and still are) in love), can be something both so tragic and so healing. pulling this pair back together, giving them some form of comfort, even if it's brief, is such a joy. i have intentions of writing more for this couple in the future, but that's likely going to be a while. still, i'll be sure to let you guys know if i do get around to it!!
this fics title is from "Like The Dawn" by The Oh Hellos! its my quintessential hadvar/ralof song for sure <3
Cycle of the Serpent
Surviving Helgen by the skin of their teeth, three elves find themselves tossed into the middle of ancient legends, a civil war, and a hell of a lot of problems. They may all have different reasons for being in Skyrim, but if they have any hope of reaching their destinations alive, it lies in learning to trust their strange new companions… no matter what. From the ruins of Helgen to the plains of Whiterun, from the seas of Solitude to the grim frost of Winterhold, and everywhere sprawling beyond, the unlikely trio will find that being chosen by Akatosh is more than they've ever bargained for. And with their own histories crawling back, and secrets slowly spilled, the trio may find that there's little they can do to escape the cycles they've made.
this longfic is… a huge undertaking. "An Inner Sanctity" focuses on two very flawed people coming to love one another. "Cycle of the Serpent" focuses on three very flawed, extremely fucked up people learning to trust one another and face whatever fate awaits them together, even when that trust is tested, even when the world is cruel, even when trauma batters and bruises them in the current and then rises up from the briny depths of the past to tug them back down beneath. it's about sustained and sometimes self-fulfilling cycles of hurt, anger, and sometimes vengeance, and it's about love and joy and companionship and friendship that lives within it all.
in short, this longfic is one of my biggest undertakings in a very long time.
i started this as a bit of a joke. the idea of there being more than one LDB was a fun idea, and then i created three elves, and those three elves gave me their family histories and their childhood friendships and their previous travels and how it changed them all prior to helgen and i went… yeah i can't just not write this and go insane about it. these three and their various methods for dealing with situations, their triumphs and defeats, and how they bounce off one another became so organic and real to me that i feel continuously pulled to keep their narrative going. this story forced me to write my first ever combat scenes (posted the snippet of my second ever real combat scene tonight!) and learn how to navigate keeping it within TES lore, while also breaking out of some of the stale writing in skyrim itself. i have plans to rewrite/overhaul entire questlines and characters to give them more life, and i've got dozens of OCs lined up - at least one of whom is hinted at within the first chapter. i have this story and these characters arcs planned out, and they do get particularly grim at points, but i never want this story to go into "there is no hope" territory. there's always hope, it just lies in learning to break your own cycles, even if it feels like it may kill you.
the title of this fic was taken from the song "Pillar of Na" by Saintseneca, i very heavily envision emeros as the first verse, athenath as the second, wyndrelis as the third, with the fourth being all three of them, and the fifth (the "eternal, eternal, eternity round…") being a sort of ensemble of all the places and people they've touched in their lives.
woooooooooooooooo!! that was long-winded. thank you for listening to me ramble on these, and thank you so much again for tagging me, mareena!! i hope everyone is having a lovely wednesday/thursday!! <3333

Chapter 2 - The Hands of a Healer
To read the first chapter in this fic, click here! -> Chapter 1: Blood on the Shrine
. . . . . . .
She had been working for thirty minutes to stabilize him. The clouds had rolled in, and it looked like it would rain at any moment. Still she pressed on, diligently casting until her magicka reserves were nearly depleted. Meeko remained beside her, keeping watch for passersby and wild skeevers. As she worked over him, the Justiciar's breathing became deeper, stronger. Colour started to return to his face, his pale cheeks regaining their golden complexion.
The mer stirred beneath her, moving his head.
"Easy, easy," she put a bloodstained hand on his cheek, holding his face with a touch that was gentle, yet firm. "You're going to be alright, just keep still."
Someone long ago had told her that she had the hands of a healer. She tried to remember who, to put a face or a name to the voice that she remembered, the words that had meant so much to her - but she was met with the usual mental block. Nothing. She sighed, reaching back with her free hand to brush the loose strands of hair behind her ear.
She swore that at one point, she had known stronger healing spells than this, but if she couldn't remember how to cast them now, what good were they?
Feeling the Justiciar come to, she returned her focus to his face.
If she couldn't find the answers to her questions about her past, she might as well get some answers to her questions about him.
He opened his eyes with a jolt, reaching immediately for whatever was touching him. There was a woman, a Breton, crouched over him, her hand resting on his face. Or was she a Breton? Maybe she was a Nord..? She was human for sure. They all looked the same, with their round cheeks and ears, their small eyes.
"Shhh, shhhhh," she held him more firmly, steadying him. "You're okay. Deep breaths."
Gods. In his final moments, and his dying fantasy was of a human? Not an Altmer, or a mer of any kind? His father was right to have been ashamed of him.
Another bark. He couldn't possibly be dreaming.
"I've done the best I can for now, but I'll need to take a break before I can do much more for you. Can you speak? Do you know where you are?"
The Justiciar coughed, blood leaking from the side of his lip. This human... She was... healing him? He took a ragged breath in, removing his hand from hers and clutching the wound at the side of his chest. "You... You're helping me? For gods' sakes, why?"
"Because you're a person. And you're hurting. Why shouldn't I?"
"You do realize you're aiding a member of the Thalmor, right? No doubt the people of Skyrim would prefer to see us all dead."
"A member of the Thalmor?" She replied sardonically. "Really?! I never would have guessed, with you wearing those oh-so subtle Justiciar's robes."
Offended and delirious from blood loss, he responded in kind. "Sarcastic, aren't we? You have a strange definition of decent attire. With a drab outfit like that, you must have pieced it together by looting the bodies you've slain! No decency, no decency at all!" He coughed again, this time spitting out a chunk of bloody tissue. Urgh.
She softened. "Fair enough. But you can critique my outfit later." Reaching over with the long end of the mer's robes, she wiped the blood off his face. "Who are you?"
He hesitated before answering.
"... Taliesin."

Aranea...
My first impression
I don't think I knew Aranea existed before I played Skyrim in like 2020 or 2021 or something, whenever I started being active on this blog. Given the fact I was kinda using the playthrough to develop Vivynne I'm sure my first response was LOL of course my Dunmeri immigrant bumbles her way into some stupid quest like this almost immediately after arriving in Skyrim, ON THE WAY to the College of Winterhold (my actual goal.) But oh well if a woman tells me to do something what am I to do but go on this stupid sidequest...
My impression now
Once I'd settled on continuing the tried and true tradition of pairing TES protags with random insignificant unromanceable NPCs, I began to put a LOT more thought into Aranea and her life. How kind of fucked it is to consider on a timeline, how she's two centuries old living on a frozen mountain top and virtually abandoned by her goddess as soon as she fulfills her purpose. it's really fucked up and I realized that Viv would think it's fucked up and there'd be interesting ideas to explore there... Aranea is an incredibly steadfast and faithful person to hold out for so long up there, and it's definitely tragic the extent to which she seems disposable in the grander scheme of Azura's prophecy. But then she doesn't really view it as tragic because she repaid Azura for her mercy in leading her followers away from the Red Year, played an important role in the retrieval of her artifact, and when all was said and done she found her Champion to be charming company. She very much has faith that Azura planned everything that was going to happen to her and knew just what she was doing. It might seem fucked up from one lens but she has her own thoughts about it... like i said interesting to write about
Favorite thing about that character
Um the thing I just described, her EXTREME belief in fate and all things coming to their proper conclusion in the end. I wrote a really really good piece for Tesfest22 (i think it was that year) where Aranea lays out her life as she views it and gives her side of the story on why she still venerates Azura even as she's been "abandoned"... she's very sentimental, i think this manifests in her relationship to dunmer communities in Skyrim as well, she and the other priests who used to live up there were like a lifeline for them, especially in Winterhold before the collapse.
Least favorite thing
Is there really enough about her to have a least favorite thing?? i guess it's too bad she can't be like, brought away from the horrid frigid mountaintop shrine after the end of the quest. you can have her as a companion but it's not like you can say "quit your job. move in with me"
Favorite line/scene
The ones at the end of the questline and after it are so :( "While you were in the Star, Azura gave me a vision. Her last, she said. I have never been without Azura's foresight since escaping Morrowind. I don't know what to do" "She said my part was over. That my fate had moved beyond the Twilight, and I was on my own. I will tend Azura's shrine when you do not need me. I still have my duties, but for the first time I feel… alone."
Favorite interaction that character has with another
In my beautiful world Viv takes her to the College of Winterhold and Savos chokes on a loaf of bread when he sees her because she knew him as a child growing up in pre-collapse Winterhold. I just think it would be funny to see your student walking around with like, a childhood mentor of yours
A character that I wish that character would interact with more
I'm just going to take this opportunity to say I once read a fic where she traveled all the way to Windhelm to provide religious services to the gray quarter there and that was so sweet and I definitely believe in this
Favorite picture
The other questions I had nothing for so here is a mod that changes Aranea to give her a more distinct appearance... I love the scarification sooo much this is just how she looks to me now (i prefer the version without all the ENB shader whozits on because they lighten her skin so much)

BG3 playthrough: opening thoughts on Astarion (I would be interested to know your thoughts?)
(Mild spoilers that the whole internet knows already)
I’m making my way through the crypt right now. Humorously, my tav is a bard and has fair bonuses for lockpicking and trap disabling, so I always just used him out of habit. Bards are versatile so I tend to forget sometimes to switch to other people in the party, outside of battle.
This runthrough though, I let Astarion take a crack at the crypt and then I felt super foolish, his bonuses are amazing and I don’t know why I wasn’t using him before. Oops.
Now let’s talk about biting, and I’m curious what you guys think:
The writing in this game is absolutely fucking insane. I’m gobsmacked the detail they put into all the dialogue branches. Once again you’ll have to understand where I’m coming from, I never played Skyrim, I never played Dragon Age, maybe this kind of stuff is par for the course, I’m just an old lady marvelling at the crazy things you kids have these days.
So I see absolutely everyone making jokes about constantly being bloodless cause they always let their vampire boyfriend bite them. Just about every single fic I read has Tav and Astarion with the ongoing bite arrangement.
So imagine my surprise to learn that… giving Astarion the option going forward to bite you whenever you want…. Doesn’t actually get high approval from him. Did you guys know that? I didn’t.
Uh without going into too much boring detail about the way the dialogue branches, essentially in the end, Astarion says he promises to only bite enemies going forward. You have the option to simply say “I’m glad we came to an agreement” which ends the conversation right there, OR, you have the option to tell him it’s ok to bite you again, as long as you talk about it first.
Ending the conversation with the agreement gets you five approval. Offering to let him bite you again gets you none.
Five approval is a significant amount. You might think that’s strange. He’s still allowed to bite enemies as well if you do the other dialogue option. Why would he not approve EVEN MORE if he’s allowed to bite enemies AND ALSO YOU? Why does that make sense at all?
I think that is some extremely fucking clever meta writing, assuming it’s on purpose, which I do. Astarion’s arc is all about him gaining back his bodily autonomy, and the writers have shown in other cases they are absolutely thinking about fourth wall breakage and player implications.
I said “the ongoing option to bite you whenever YOU want” very specifically. You, the player, will decide when you want that to happen, and let’s be very honest. The fact that Astarion can get the happy buff from biting an enemy WITHOUT the significant disadvantage of making Tav bloodless every day… who is going to choose to do that, except because they think it’s hawt to have a vampire biting them? And Astarion has no mechanism to refuse or to ask for it when HE wants it. The player is ordering him around. Tonight you’re going to bite me. He can only say yes.
(and I know you guys aren’t being horrible when you do the bite option! I know from the fics you write you see it as role playing flavour where it’s imagined as an offer that Astarion can freely consider: I just think it’s fascinating when placed instead in the context of a game where you are the one controlling the choices and the devs have obviously added a statement)
So dang!! I dunno!! I feel kind of bad about going on that dialogue path now. I think I’m actually going to backtrack slightly and redo the bite to go the other route. Not just because “I am mathing this game and I want the max approval”, no no, I’m not playing like that. But I feel like the approval is there to indicate something important about how Astarion feels about the options, and as a comment about the player’s intentions, and I am absolutely fascinated that this was programmed in. It is DEFINITELY making me pause and really consider why I’m making the choices that I’m making. I want the bite option. Why do I want it so bad? If the character likes the other option so much better, why is it such a debate for me? I have to really confront the fact that I want to boss around the sexy vampire and make him do what I want. That confrontation is the whole point of his character. What a crazy detail. I am FLOORED.
What do you guys think? Which do you choose and why?

AO3 Twenty Questions
I was tagged by @dirty-bosmer Tagging @lillxart @gwilin-stay-winnin @skyrim-forever and @thequeenofthewinter (even though I know she's already done this!)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
18
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
416,292
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently, only Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, although I have written a few Breath of the Wild fics (one one-shot, one short 8-chapter story, and two long fics that are unfinished). Once upon a time in junior high and high school, my friends and I wrote each other stories about Duran Duran and Def Leppard, but those are on paper and too old for anyone to care these days!
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
You know, I hadn’t really looked in a long time, so I’m surprised/not surprised to find that mostly my LoZ fics are the highest in kudos (they’ve been there longest).
Dalliances with Dunmer (86)
Link the Anachronism (55)
Larissa’s Tale: Before the Hero (46) – this pleases me; my first story with an OC and a lot of research
Khajiit: Stranger in a Strange Land (45)
Starting Over: A New Woman in a New Hyrule (38)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Absolutely! While I write for myself and have to remind myself of this daily, it’s always nice to know that someone else has seen and enjoyed my labors of love. Readers who comment are rare and precious. And at least 2 of them have become actual friends!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Dalliances with Dunmer – but that wasn’t the end of the story, just the ending of the 2nd book in the story.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
What Might Have Been – because it was MEANT to be an alternate ending to the angsty one.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not usually. When I first started putting DwD on AO3 and fanfiction, one person called it dogshit and another person went on a mean, scandalized rant about Miranja’s “fatherless behavior.” But a dear friend told me, if there’s no controversy, you’re not doing it right, and I left the flame in the comments for that purpose!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Smut/romance/erotica – various levels depending on the mood and the characters’ relationship. There’s been everything from cuddly fluff to heart-pounding romance to jizz-in-your-pants or call-the-priest filth.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I can’t answer that definitively. I started a crossover (Khajiit) between BotW and Skyrim (a friend used Skyrim to wean me off of BotW, and now I live here forever), but I haven’t even gotten to the crossover part and now it’s been 2 years since I played BotW, so we’ll see where that goes.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. I can’t imagine why anyone would, unless they were training an AI!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Yes, just a silly little back-and-forth scenario with my OC and a friend’s OC. It’s not on AO3, but I’m hoping it will be soon!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Of my own, or anyone’s anywhere? Mine, of course, would be Miranja and Talvas. Elsewhere… I like to ship Kvothe and Devi in The Name of the Wind – if for nothing else but the hate sex!
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I want to finish all of them except the Link and Zelda stories, since those are moot points by now.
16. What are your writing strengths?
From others’ reviews, I’d say characterization and description. I like to get inside the characters’ minds and hearts, think up back stories for them that might have made them the way they are, make their interactions with other characters as genuine as I can. When describing a scene, I almost focus more on the sensations than the actual physical presence of, or situation of, things. What is the character seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, or tasting, and how does it make them feel? The feelings are what you remember, not the details. (Unless you’re Sherlock Holmes.)
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Second-guessing myself. If someone says the story’s moving too slowly, I pick up the pace and skip the less important stuff that was kind of important to me. Then someone says I’m rushing the story, so I rewrite it and flesh it out the way I wanted it to begin with. Like, I BELIEVE I’m pretty good at re-reading and assessing the pace, but then I let someone else tell me I’m doing it wrong. Also, allowing things to distract me and keep me from writing until I don’t even remember where I was at.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
If it’s relevant to the plot, then of course! Otherwise, if it’s just idle chatter, that feels like extraneous flaunting on the author’s part. Look what I can do! Haha!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
As many things as I’ve been a fan of, I’ve never thought of writing my own fiction about them until I beat Breath of the Wild. Because I wanted so badly to know how they would turn the kingdom back around, I decided to write my own continuation.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Larissa’s Tale or Hrefna’s Crush. Shorter stories, but special to me in different ways. Larissa was kind of a self-insert character but better-looking, who got her hands and other body parts on Link before Zelda did. Hrefna’s Crush was sort of a birds-and-bees and starting to have crushes story, where Sondas Drenim is the object of her crush, and Miranja is the competition she loves but envies.

I am losing my fucking mind. Ever since I got pregnant(whoo finally having a girl but definitely my last baby) I can't write for the life of me!!! I've been posting my Cicero fic on AO3 but now my entire existence has been consumed by Astarion and Gortash and Durge and I have so many ideas for THAT but my brain will not do the thing!!! My hands do not work!!
Edit: I realized I haven't posted my links for my Tumblr so here's my AO3 account! I used to post on Fanfiction.net but have since moved everything away from there.

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
I was tagged by @sinisterexaggerator
I'm not very active on tumblr and I don't think I have anyone else to tag who hasn't done this already, but I thought this would be fun.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I joined AO3 just over a year ago, so right now I only have two works. They're the first two entries in my Cad Bane series. A third one is in development, and I plan to start updating it around the new year.
2. What's your total A03 word count?
188,065
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently I write for Star Wars only, but I have plans in the future to write a series for Skyrim/Elder Scrolls.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
As I currently only have two, they are:
Sex, Drugs, and Blasters
Credits, Lies, and Betrayal
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I respond to every comment. Any amount of interaction I get is precious to me, especially since this little niche in the fandom is so small.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Definitely Credits. *Spoilers* OC has an emotional breakup with Jango Fett, succumbs to Bane's seduction, and then gets shot in the chest by said blue bounty hunter.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Sex, Drugs, and Blasters. OC pays off her debt and makes some new bounty hunting friends.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I did get one particularly persistent hater who used multiple accounts to hate on the way I wrote Jango, eventually saying some homophobic stuff I had to delete from the comment section. It was pretty bizarre, but I did decide to take another look at my writing with Jango and made some small changes. It was a weird experience, but I decided to make the best of it.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Oh yes. I'm a big supporter of slow burn, but when it finally reaches that point, I go all-out. So far I have a couple scenes with Jango and one with Bane (my favorite one).
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I don't write crossovers and I'm generally not a fan. However, a couple years ago I read this really fun one that was a Marvel/Clone Wars crossover.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, and I don't think I would be open to it. I wouldn't mind having a beta, though. Sometimes I really need someone else to proof-read.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
I think I gotta go with Captain Swan from Once Upon a Time. That show was crazy, but Emma and Hook were just so good together. Not to mention Hook was HOT.
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I only have one WIP, and that is my Bane slowburn series. However, I do believe I will finish it given enough time. At first I never thought I would start it, and now I have two novels under my belt.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'm good at planning plots and making things link together. I'm setting up long-term plotpoints in the series whilst juggling smaller plot threads and subplots. I sketch it all out ahead of time so I always know where I'm going.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Sometimes I struggle with coming up with creative description on the spot. I usually have to open thesauruses. My main goal as a writer is to use more figurative language. Then again, I'm only 19 so I still have plenty of room to grow.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I've written several scenes with Mando'a dialogue, and I usually just write it in English and italicize it. If I want to emphasize certain words, I'll say the direct translation, like "cyar'ika".
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars!
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Sex, Drugs, and Blasters is my firstborn child, but I think I enjoyed writing Credits, Lies, and Betrayal better.

overture to the sun sounds FIRE what is it about??
It's the Skyrim Dawnguard quest line with a very traumatized former Vigilant of Stendarr & an equally traumatized werewolf becoming Serana's new parents because her old ones suck. The title is probably cooler than the actual fic itself will be, but I have had brain worms ever since finding out about Sunforest & I couldn't not take inspiration from one of their songs.
Also this fic actually has some writing instead of just my plot notes so I can post a little! As a treat
She dismounted, one hand lingering on her steed as she took two steps forward; on the third step, her hand fell from the horse to her dagger, her long fingers curling around the leather-wrapped hilt. As she drew ever closer, he still looked on at the ruins of the Hall of the Vigilant. She stopped, now the same distance from the smoking rubble as the man but from the other direction.
“Hey!”
The man startled as she called out to him, his honey brown eyes wide with surprise and some kind of unidentifiable wildness. Ellanin raised her head slightly, looking down at him even more as she sniffed the air. Only horse and man and the lingering smell of burning bodies. Something different made this man look like she did upon her first full moon after the attack.
“What happened here?” He asked, his voice cracking and hoarse from either over or underuse. Ellanin came closer to him, trudging through the powdery snow as her hand slipped from her dagger and into the inner pocket of her green wool cloak. Engaged and identified as merely human, the man didn’t seem like much threat anymore.
“Burned down by vampires. Only one of them escaped to tell us about it.”
“Oh…oh divines.” The man crouched down in the snow, practically curling in on himself. His elbows came to rest on his knees as his hands, fingers spread as if he meant to claw at his own skin and rip out his beard, covered the lower half of his face. The edges of his cloak parted, revealing the sky blue surcoat he wore over a long tunic and mail. His clothes definitely looked foreign, stuffier and more formal than anything she’d purchased from the local Nords, but pendants looked the same everywhere, and she did not need to look at the emblem on the chain hanging about his neck. Even though it was obscured by his arms the man’s reaction told her what it held.
“I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You can see it yourself but…” Ellanin faltered, slightly, bright orange eyes darting from the crumpling Vigilant to the rubble, “hearing it is different. More real, I guess.”
“I was supposed to help them,” he croaked. Ellanin looked back at him, thin lips going tight as her front teeth clamped down over them, keeping them together.
In her silence, he continued. “I wasted so much time. If I’d been here, if I hadn’t…that godsforsaken city. I should have been here in time!”
“Tolan said there were a dozen of them. One extra set of hands wouldn’t have done much, I don’t think.”
He looked up at her, eyes conflicted as his mouth opened and closed over the words that wouldn’t leave his throat. Finally, the man averted his gaze and responded, “no, it wouldn’t have.”
She swallowed, gaze desperately going from the man, to the snowy ground. There were a couple of different things giving up like that could mean, Ellanin wanted to address neither. Not with herself or people she had ever been close to, and certainly not with a stranger. Still, she couldn’t just let him rot here in the snow.
“The survivor, Brother Tolan, he said he would meet me at some cave they’d been scoping out. Dimhollow Crypt. If you come with me, I’m sure he’d–”
“You would do that?” He asked, standing back up, “bring me with you to see…to do what I must?”
“I’ll bring you with me so he can go with you back to Fort Dawnguard…get you taken care of. How long have you been out here?”

Summer Reading/Writing/Arting Tag
Tagged by the beautiful and talented @mareenavee in this lovely little "get to know the author" situation. Thanks for the tag, dear.
Tagging: Anyone and everyone who wants to do this, but also: @oblivions-dawn @rainpebble3 @blossom-adventures @dirty-bosmer @sheirukitriesfandom @skyrim-forever @frankensonnet @crysdrawsthings
1) Describe one creative WIP project you’re planning to work on over the summer.
Ah yes, I still plan on working on An Invincible Summer. It’s definitely going to take me longer than this summer to finish with all the things that are planned to happen later, but I’m looking forward to it immensely. (Right now, I am in the middle of some delicious Moot drama and then later—spoilers.) ;) This is technically my second ever long fic (and it’s a sequel), and I have been having a blast creating and just overall putting words on a Scrivener doc.
2) Rec a book!
A book rec you say? How about a series rec? I finished The Golden Enclaves trilogy by Naomi Novik more or less recently and it was a really good time. I can’t recommend it highly enough! I’ve also had Spinning Silver for a while (and then got distracted) so I haven’t finished it, but that’s next on my list.
3) Rec a fic! (outside your character tag)
A fic outside my character tag, eh? Well, how about I give you two TES fics?! I have been having the greatest time reading Petrichor by the amazingly talented oblivions-dawn, and I recently started into Layers of Snow and Ash by rainpebble3. I’m looking forward to continuing reading both of these fics…as soon as I finish classes for the semester because I’m dying right now with reading/grading so many essays. I have a lot of other fics on my list (I'm looking at you Blossom) which I also haven’t gotten to, and some I hope to start soon. (I’m looking at you dirty-bosmer.)
4) Rec music!
I must say that you have excellent taste Mareena. I also listen to a lot of Florence + the Machine when I am writing…and I have not been able to stop listening to Dance Fever. It’s just SO, SO good. But, to give another recommendation, I also listen to a lot of Broken Social Scene. Romance to the Grave is a really great one for the atmosphere. (It’s also on my fic list.)
 5) Share one piece of advice!
I have to echo what Mareena says here too: never give up, and I’d like to add to that: Be KIND to yourself. It’s so very important when you’re being creative. Perfection does not exist, and it can be so damaging to compare yourself to others in the search for it. Your writing is valid and beautiful just as it is, and any writing is good writing. No one can write a story like you can. Growing is part of the creative process, and you can’t do that if you’re not writing. So, when those self-doubt brain snakes come to haunt you, slap them with a shovel. It happens to all of us. It definitely happens to me at times, especially when I find typos in things I have read through 80 million times, but that’s writing. The creative process can be messy, complicated, and beautiful.
Embrace it and love your craft. Your writing has value, and it is worth it. Always.

From the OC asks, but I am a cheaty mc-cheat and an incorrigible crow, SO... these are for your version of Ondolemar, in your future project. Yes, I'm mean like that. Hey once an NPC is a POV, that's pretty much your OC, same rules apply. :-P 2, 14, 29 and just for fun and to balance it out, 33.
Skyrim NPC-to-OC ask for a technically-unannounced spin off fic I have brewing in the background LOL (Please feel free to ask more of these! Post is here.)
You really are an incorrigible corvid, aren't you LOL But no, thank you for this!!! Really. It's only been brewing in the back of my head, and in tiny fragments, so I really had to put some thought into these answers!!
First I'll say this fic is going to be a thing. It's not necessarily a sequel, but more of a spin off. I hinted at it in this post here.
As the ask states, this one is for Ondolemar (:
2. Do they worship any deities, be it aedra or daedra?
Maybe not worship specifically, but he does acknowledge the Aedra and not just to put on appearances. He will repeat the general Thalmor things regarding Auri-El and the other divines when he has to. He admonishes Talos when he has to, and, truthfully, he doesn't actually understand the point of that god to begin with, even without the influence of the Concordat.
He's truthfully not overly religious, really, but he feels indebted to Mara, the goddess of compassion, among other things. Without spoiling too much of the fic, one of his main goals is to help his people get out from under the thumb of the Thalmor. Considering his legacy and parentage, he could have easily been as indoctrinated as the rest of the Thalmor, but he isn't and doesn't subscribe. Something or someone cared to spare him from that or gave him the strength to be able to avoid falling into the whole thing far too deeply to get back out again.
On the other hand he finds Daedra worship repulsive, again due to backstory things that will spoil World and this fic, so I can't reveal here. (:
14. What's their morality like?
It definitely would depend on who you ask. By association with the Thalmor, a lot of people assume he's terrible and evil. He leans into this to keep up appearances, but certain characters know it's not like that at all. He might not be the kindest person on the face of Nirn, but he's got noble goals in the grand scheme of things. Those who really know him and his goals know to trust him, even in situations that would seem otherwise impossible.
The thing is, he still needs to keep up appearances in order to further his goals. Sometimes he has to do things in the name of the Thalmor he'd rather not to protect himself, because he absolutely cannot be caught. Too many lives depend on him. This can sometimes bother him, he does still have to deal with the consequences of behaving in the expected way. He likes to pretend he doesn't care and will do whatever needs to be done, but certain things will weigh on him. Imprisoning a Talos worshiper for appearances? No. But other things will be much more of a struggle for him.
29. What do they think of Skyrim politics? (Jarls, Thanes, empire, high kings, etc)
Skyrim itself is not his primary concern, personally, but because of his job and his status within the Thalmor's presence in the province, of course it has to be front and center in his mind. He needs to know the details of all of this in order to function and to keep blending in. In all, he doesn't mind the idea of Jarls governing huge swaths of lands and working together to select the most qualified High King/Queen.
He believes it could, under normal circumstances, be a decent, almost fair system, if not for general hubris and corruption that power often brings. But then again, he's used to something of a totalitarian government in what's now called Alinor. Now regarding the Empire...he's not impressed with how they've failed to stand up for its people. But he deeply, deeply understands that individual states cannot easily stand up to the Aldmeri Dominion. He knows how bad things can and will be under their complete control. So while he doesn't like the idea behind them at all, and honestly, in another life, would prefer if they'd just collapse already, he recognizes them as perhaps the last line of defense against a greater evil.
33. Do they have a specific color scheme?
WELL. We kind of know his color scheme already, at least in his Thalmor regalia, right? Black and gold. But I'll describe him more generally, I suppose, for this question.
So yes, he still wears his black and gold uniform. He's got a very warm, gilded skin tone. He's a little more on the light skin tone side, probably by virtue of being stuck in Understone Keep more hours than he'd normally prefer. In my hc, he has grown out his hair in recent years, but still keeps the sides shaved/undercut more or less. He ties it back out of his eyes, normally. I figure occasionally, he'll wear a man bun instead of a ponytail lol. Speaking of, his hair is silky, shoulder length and silvery-blonde. His beard is the same color, when he lets it grow out more than it already is. When he's in civilian attire, he'll usually wear light gray clothing. Maybe a slate blue-gray travel cloak, depending on what he's up to out of uniform, anyway.
I know this was only little glimpse of this project, but I hope it was fun to read anyway! And that there's some hype for the story, maybe? (:
