its so so insane how dean has like. the huge fanbase he does. he is AWFUL!!!! i love him truly but im known for loving awful characters in fandoms im used to characters who act like him being viciously hated!!! and the only explanation i can think of is that hes played by jensen ackles (aka pretty white man). theres the fact that the narrative favours dean a lot when hes not actually right (a la s4) but thats not just it because dean is pretty clear-cut presesnted as getting morally greyer to the point of antihero territory in like s9 (where im at) at least. and Yet. he is unproblematic ally king to all??? supportive brother of the century??? Girl what???? do you know who dean winchester is? he is a controlling possessive clingy manipulative aggressive unstable thirty five year old who cant grow past his own damage and never really will because the narrative is perpetuated by the cycles he keeps perpetuating
#thing is like. the narrative corrupts dean under the guise of heroism and makes him worse and worse while it punishes sam under the guise of#justice and hurts him more and more#its like how their most defining moments of hell trauma respectively is dean torturing others and sam getting tortured#dean is The Good One and sam is The Bad One but the narrative pushes dean so much and makes him so angry he breaks and gets worse#and more 'villainous' (bad word). and the narrative hurts sam so much for the crime of being born the bad son that he just becomes more and#more of a victim. at the start of the show dean is michael and sam is lucifer. thats their destined roles. but by season nine dean is cain#and sam is abel. thats what it comes down to. Augh.#and they need to keep being codependent and resurrecting each other and needing each other forever and ever and getting worse and more#damaged in tandem because thats how the show even exists. meta!#and all this is soo like. because in supernatural the narrative is god. god is the author of their book series. Started thinking about the Distortion's arc again. Dozens dead hundreds trapped in endless spiralling hallways for the rest of eternity.
#its just. its just really good.#the main arc of TMA is amazing and it makes the show what it is#but the distortion follows the best written subplot i have ever experienced#it spans the entire show and yet it is truly hard to see where its going until helen's final episode starts to piece it all together#she performed her long torturous deception like only an entity defined by lies and unreality could.#the dread she causes on a meta level within the audience is extremely well executed#people who picked up on her duplicitous nature vs those who wanted to just enjoy her fun and lovable trickster persona#the betrayal of trust feels so real though it had to be inevitable. we just didnt want to stop liking her#i will never stop thinking about how well-written this entire arc is#tma#tma meta#the distortion#helen richardson#michael shelley#mag 187

was going to comment on the ‘failure of basic journalistic dilligence in the mass media’ or whatever but realized it would make it seem as of the problem was a momentary lapse in integrity that had been addressed. and it hasn’t been, not in the slightest.
It is so morally unthinkable that these major outlets never once mentioned the thousands of Palestinian adults and children stolen from their homes and from the streets by Israel. And even now, when it comes to their release, these pieces spend endless paragraphs describing Israeli ‘hostages’, but just a few words on the many children being returned (many of whom were arrested after being accosted by the IOF), who they refer to only as ‘prisoners’.
these white supremacist rags have been very consistent in their efforts to uphold the most violent tendencies of western imperialists, yes. but this refusal to acknowledge the reality of the situation: that Israel took thousands of hostages first, is one of the most blatant examples of their explicit support of this project, and of their mass failure to recognize the humanity of Palestinians.

saw a poll about Gaius and Merlin that I can't respond to for some reason and it's killing me
#do you understand how much I love them? do you? no#would Gaius betray Merlin? interesting question#define 'betray'#technically he already did at least once#(no I'm not counting his confession under torture)#when he went to Arthur in 5x10 and told him about Finna#because he knew Merlin was gonna meet her even though he begged him not to go#and going to the king - that was BAD#they don't do that to each other usually. that's crossing a line#which is why Merlin was pissed#but Gaius only did it to save Merlin from himself#AND! interestingly Merlin did the same too once#when he denounced Alice (Gaius's ex fiancée) to Arthur#again; to save Gaius from himself#and again; big moment of conflict#I mean they also lie to each other all the time of course#but I'm not counting that#even THEY know they do it#they don't always trust each other to tell the truth (which is why Gaius knew Merlin was going to meet Finna)#but it never comes from a place of malice#it's how they try to protect each other#from pain; danger or disappointment#but at the end of the day they KNOW they've got each other's back#even if they sometimes (ok often) keep things from each other or lie#or have significant disagreements#they always KNOW they love each other#they never doubt that#and I think that's beautiful#sorry I just love them ok#merlin and gaius

It's such a tiny innocuous thing that really doesn't matter, but I feel like calling duel monsters a children's card game (when it's fundamentally baked into everyday life, and your social existence is judged by what you play and how you play it so very intensely, for everyone in-universe) is an absolute injustice to what it is for that universe of people.
#marwospeaking#The following tags are a rant. please skip if you are not interested in reading a whole rant#to be clear. actual real life ygo sure. you can call that a children's card game (even if card game is just easier anyway)#but. in universe you Would Not call it a children's card game. not even sure you'd call it a game at that point#ygo worldbuilding fascinates on different levels. and to be honest this thought came to be via the abridged Shun compilation video#because he does mention children's card game (paraphrased) often earlier on in reference to in-universe duel monsters#but. for some people it literally defines if you die or not (Shun Was/Is In A War). for others it's your ticket to not go to jail because#you're too powerful to not be let off the hook (survival of the fittest kinda stuff really)#if you even dare not show up to a match. with crowds Equal To A Football/Soccer Championship. your family is in social ruins (Yusho)#these cards house spirits. and can be used for so many varied things between ending the world. starting the world. and coldblooded murder#and treating all of that as though its below a character. not because they're untouchable. but because of an age demographic#I feel misses a point about Arc V that I'm not sure I can quite articulate without sounding fully manic#in other series too! Synchro causes the world to end because it attracts some giant anti-synchro bois (meklords)#Numbers can either possess or take the form of someone's personal desires and feelings (Titanic Moth and Hope Harbinger are the same card)#(just different monsters because two different people used the exact card)#The God cards. the sacred beasts. the whole of GX's dimensional shenanigans and most definitely Yubel and Winged Kuriboh#Even in Vrains. which is very mild compared to the previous 3 installments. its still baked in their society. Its just aggregated#into cyberspace. That's not mentioning the Tortures that revolved around duelling to train AIs on children's brains so you could have..#.. cyber immortality. and then you choose to kill the AIs that you see as like children to you - mentioned directly to your biological son#ANYWAY. tldr. Having an in-universe character calling Duel Monsters a children's card game outside of DM specifically is a fundamental..#.. misunderstanding of how important it socially is in-universe. and it'd be much more understandable for someone whose life isn't dictated#by how well he can play it to say anything along the lines of 'its beneath me!!' than fuckign Kurosaki Shun are you kidding me.#We won't make an actual point at how the social lives of people don't seem to be solved by talking as much as duelling. no. we'll say..#.. its for children so we can point and laugh at how weird it is!!
