If you want to start with waste, start with Elon’s defense contracts at the Pentagon.
In fact, we should start with transparency around defense contracts in general, which take up an enormous sum of public funds.
But they won’t do that, will they? - Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)

Boycotting the nfl (I say this despite never having streamed a game legally)
#i think in another year i would be more annoyed but at this point ive come to accept it#what we aren’t going to do is look upon the patriots with nostalgia 🙅#especially since it’s kind of tom brady’s fault the chiefs are good now#if not for the bucs they probably would’ve been set back on retooling at least a couple of seasons#learned the lesson to invest in the defense a season or two later#but noooo now they have a good defense that’s still on their first contract#curses#nfl#<- sport where the love really is not enough damn

I mean, I suppose Do Han did predict this correctly, that she would fall in love and choose love over him in the end.
But also this entire flashback breaks my heart because the show could have, you know, showed this to us so much better than it did and having a flashback to supposedly claim all of this as true doesn't work when the show hasn't shown us in the modern day.
Poor Do Han.
I am going to say this once and I am going to say this clearly.
Staying in the closet is not something that is being done to the people around you, it is a choice a person makes in order to feel safe in a world that judges them.
Do Han taking on the guilt for hurting Ji Han and Ah Jeong's relationship when the truth of the matter is that neither of them approached this relationship well is not his fault.
Do Han did not do this to them.
Ji Han objected to Do Han's marriage because he wanted Do Han to live out his own dream instead of Do Han's and Ah Jeong knowingly entered a contract for a fake marriage to help Do Han stay in the closet.
Neither of these is a selfless act and though there can be arguments about loving, neither of them has approached this in a loving way.
Ah Jeong has more claim because at the very least she was actually doing something for Do Han but frankly Ji Han has been treating like crap the entire time and his every objection to Ah Jeong stems from him thinking he knows better than Do Han and pushing him towards a dream that Do Han never had.
I want to protect this man.
He loves them both so much and everyone takes this the worst way and blames him and he is constantly trapped in this closet that also feels like the only place he can be safe because being out is far, far scarier.
Do Han is buried deep in a closet in a desperate attempt to protect himself but also, frankly, his family. This is a family where personal matters reflect on their business. How is him coming out as gay in a conservative society going to reflect on the very people he loves?
Staying in the closet to protect yourself is not running away.
If any closeted people read this... you are not running away, you are keeping yourself safe and that matters.
I swear, I promise, you matter whether you come out or not and if that lie keeps you safe, then stay safe. There are others way to protect the people around you.
The amount that I want to protect Do Han from the people who love him is agonizing.
(It's the way Ji Han takes Ah Jeong helping Do Han keep his secret as a personal offense that really gets to me. Ugh.)
Boy, just run. Go back to New York. Flee. You don't want any of this!
Keeping Ah Jeong in the contract wasn't your best choice, boy, but I understand your fear and reluctance and that anxiety you thought you'd escaped but didn't have the chance to, not for long.
#wedding impossible#in defense of do han#poor man just needs to run#keeping ah jeong in the contract wasn't the best choice#but he's so damn scared#and i understand why#poor guy

The flaws in the team - is this fixable in one offseason?
I’m worried they’re gonna see how close some games were and talk themselves out of making necessary changes 😕
god. i have no idea. the thing is that the bengals have always had this reputation, and it's a fair one for the most part. but as a new fan, i've only been experiencing these good years. (became aware of them during the super bowl, really got into them the next season. luckily became a fan right around when they went on a 10 game win streak so like, i wasn't aware this team DID lose?? and now look at me.)
i think, if you want to be Fair, the front office and organization HAVE been making changes. selling the stadium naming rights, making an in-season trade, paying joe the most guaranteed money they've ever paid, these are all steps in the right direction. but you can also fairly point out that a lot of this is way too little too late. they are far far behind the way most other front offices are run, and we're seeing the consequences of that.
i hope that progress keeps being made. i hope they see what they have in joe and ja'marr after this insane season, and see how they've let them down. i think joe (and certainly ja'marr lol) is the type to speak his mind when he sees something he's not happy about. i'm not sure how much power or sway he does have in the organization, but i imagine it's more than pretty much any player they've had til this point. and i can only hope they listen to him!! (without him having to threaten a trade, which i wouldn't blame him for. but i don't think it's come to that quite yet.)
in terms of what changes they could reasonably make this offseason, i think we need to (ONCE AGAIN) focus on drafting and signing defensive talent. it sucks because oh my god we've dedicated so many resources to that the last few years, but we just keep missing (and of course letting the actual proven talent go, assuming we can replace and it turns out we can't!) and then when you think about how high-potential players haven't developed, you do have to look at coaching. lou has been incredible for us scheme-wise the last few years. he is one of the few DCs who has proven he can consistently limit patrick mahomes, josh allen, and even lamar sometimes (less so this year lol). but! when you take away his top talent, he's not able to reproduce these results reliably. which i mean, that's a hard ask for anyone, but it's his job to work with the tools given, and two years in a row now he's proven that he can't set up the players he has currently on the roster for success. so the answer might be in replacing him? or at the very least, keep him for his scheming creativity but maybe replace position coaches? who actually work with and develop the guys every day?
i still think zac's job is safe. and i know i'm in the minority when i say i'm mostly okay with that. when you look at this team's problems, and what they've been able to do on offense this year despite key injuries, i still think that's impressive. and obviously you can attribute some of that to joe's ability to improvise, but i think when you look at the game plans recently, they've been pretty good overall. zac definitely still has trouble with deciding on when to be aggressive, and sometimes he gets too cute with shit, but i really don't think he's this team's biggest problem, and i think joe is still very much on his side. if that changes though, then yeah, i'd think zac's seat could get pretty hot.
oh i do think we need to get rid of frank though. our o-line is better at pass protection this year, especially when orlando is in and having one of his best years statistically. and i get that when we have joe at qb, we're always going to prioritize passing, that's fine. but i'm pretty sure we're dead last in run blocking. which is a shame because chase brown has shown he can be pretty special! but we need to give him SOMETHING to work with on these runs. and given that frank is the o-line AND run coordinator, it's pretty evident that he's the problem there. so maybe the team gets rid of him? hopefully?
i dunno, this has become a whole rant but these are just some of the things that i think could happen? and maybe if they do, we'll be in better shape next year to get things figured out. i'm excited to watch our young guys this season, see what we have in them. because they could definitely be the key to success next season!
#can the front office fix everything in one offseason? they could get pretty close if they were willing to spend $$$$#but of course they aren't#so we'll just have to see if they adjust their conventional strategies AT ALL to give us ANYTHING!!#and hope for the best#they did go out and get joe a great defense in the 21 free agency#trey bj dj mike hilton#they were all considered mid level guys. and we gave them mid level contracts#and through sheer luck they all turned out to play above the value free agency had on them#we gotta hope we can get that to happen again because that worked out SO well for us#and i imagine that's what the FO is banking on. because they don't wanna spend all their money on one player. they're far too risk averse#i'm sure they're already fuming about overpaying for rankins this offseason#also disclaimer that i barely know what i'm talking about here!

We think the very unintended manner in which we are experiencing BG3 (datamining the game and then reading all of the dialogue by manually going through the game files and reading the text) may be altering our impressions of the game slightly. If we ever release most of this shit we are probably going to need to stick a "disclaimer: author of this fanfiction mostly experienced this game via datamining, and may not be an accurate source on things like maps, because the wizard's computer cannot run BG3" on there. Unrelatedly, if any of you Tumblr users out there who are capable of running BG3 happen to be willing to hop on call with us and do nothing but take a freecam around the scenery for a while, we're open.
#we speak#baldur's gate 3#also astarion has so much fucking dialogue. compared to literally everyone else especially#like man cmon we're trying to look at laezel and karlach. stop having multiple dialogue trees at literally every turn#men who have fully fleshed out dialogue trees for interactions where karlach cliffgate gets One word of dialogue (injustice)#oh well at least its a funny one word for the situation at hand#this post brought to you by: looking up documentation and having people reference events we aren't aware of#...mostly because we have made exactly no effort to look at romance scenes for anyone except like. laezel. but#in our defense laezel has fun gith culture insights. what do these other guys have. being hot? we're only looking at raw data fool#also we treat raw gameplay footage like a podcast to listen to while we knit anyways#...on the plus side not being able to perceive astarions face and voice while looking at his dialogue has actually improved it we think#hes very fun in text! unfortunately in full motion he is gods most boring whumpee. sorry for him. his VA clearly tried.#we thought astarions scars were supposed to be way worse than they are looking at just dialogue text#very disappointing to look at them and theyre just aesthetic circles. like cmon man. thats only like 25% of your back#that contract is written RIDICULOUSLY inefficiently to boot. who picks up a canvas to write a legal document on and writes like three lines#like sure its aesthetically cool we Guess but arent devils meant to be like. good at contracts. this is a dog shit legal text man#too married to your aesthetics to make proper use of your vampire spawn canvas. idiot.#this has gone vastly off topic. anyways we looked up the laezel romance separately because we didnt want to hunt the files#this is certainly not the intended experience but we think it's probably going to give us at least a few funny impressions#the succubus interaction's universal disapproval bits are really really fucking funny

Zach would die for Zorian but Zorian would literally pull off the impossible plus defy the angels for Zach and I think that's beautiful.
#“you're under a death pact with the angels? i got you bro”#*proceeds to curbstomp a lich. multiple soul mages. and a dragon mage. during the battle*#only to then also reveal that he created a spell that can bypass mindblank. the ultimate defense against mind magic#he then uses the above to keep two super powerful archmages in hyper realistic illusions for over 24 hours simultaneously#and manages to make zach's angel contract dissolve despite its conditions technically not being met#“mind blank is an impassable defense” zorian: SIKE. you thought!#zorian kazinski#zach noveda#zz duo#mother of learning

wow a sudden gushing for ekky and how defensively good he is i wonder where that couldve come from surely nothing could have sparked this
#im not saying be aware of what you say on public forums where our beat and staff notoriously are on and aware of#but you know thatd be redundant at this point#also with this being a contract year you know#it just feels even more how you say. in bad taste to dog on ekky for “being bad defensively” when thats just not true#but what do i know!#im just a freak on the internet my opinion doesnt particularly matter

occasionally i reflect on what nhl player will be the first to publicly come out (sorry luke prokop i love and respect you but on account of not having played an NHL game you do not count for the purposes of this post). i take a strong sidney crosby is gay for real stance but he would also NEVER come out publicly in a million years i feel that man would rather die than voluntarily reveal information about his personal life to the public
#sorry to be speculating about hockey players sexualities online#in my defense if they’re bothered they’re welcome to cry into their multimillion dollar contracts about it

paige shouting out tash cloud at every opportunity....love that
#can i say something.#i think because of tash's career track she's been very underappreciated#like she had 3rd most assists in the league last year#and that's with having several excellent passers on the team as well#and the fact that she regularly defends 4s [and was one of the more successful merc to do so last year]#tbh even the fans [like league fans] don't see it#and i think. even though she has that 200k contract [and deserves it]#many FO don't see her as invaluable#and like i understand why you would only want one big contract on the team between at and tash. like from a roster construction standpoint#i get it. i will be interested to see how the mercury do this year bc it's going to be a whole new system#apparently bg left bc they wanted to move away from the 4-1 setup idk#and i was thinking more about why the merc crashed out last year#i think it got into someone's head that they needed a 4 to rebound even though the system worked when everyone was healthy#and like having 3 of 5 starters either out or going through something after the break that will change a team#but the way they didn't have a consistent bench didn't help#and part of that is players and part of it is the flexibility you want to use when you have so many players on 7 days or minimums#and taking bec out of the line up makes it really tough bc she is such a good defender and versatile player#and it's not like they couldn't lock in and defend. they could. it just didn't happen all the time#and the perimeter defense sucked#and the more i think about it the more i think they should have started celeste in that 4 spot even though she's smaller she can defend#and the other thing is it wasn't totally the roster bc like we were competitive in those last two games#but i think part of the issue came with the reliance on the 3. even though most of the time the ball movement was good#well it was good with the starters in. there was one shot clock violation in that last game with seattle... oof#so i guess what i'm saying is i'm curious if the coaching will be different next year with larger players and more defenders#but that paige shouts tash out at every opportunity#well 2. first it was the style [makes sense] then it was the 1 on 1 play#just because she wasn't the biggest name on the roster didn't mean she wasn't incredibly valuable#and to decide in one offseason that you want to burn it down and start fresh is wild to me#and i think their decision to do that made bg explore fa#but aside from the positional overlap this trade happened bc phx doesn't have any assets
