Dodge Viper-based Defender prop car from “Viper”
Set in the "near future" as envisioned in the early 1990s, "Viper" was about a federal task force based in fictional Metro City, California, that fought crime using an armored vehicle called the Defender that masqueraded as a Dodge Viper. The show first aired in early 1994 on NBC and continued in syndication between 1996 and 1999.
The Defender was designed by Chrysler, and built on a stretched 1993 Dodge Viper RT/10 chassis by Unique Movie Cars in Las Vegas. A 360-cubic-inch Chrysler V-8 replaced the Viper V-10, driving the rear wheels through a Chrysler 727 3-speed automatic transmission. The suspension, steering, and brakes are thought to be carryover Viper hardware, according to the auction listing.
The driver faces three round instruments, including a 180-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and a fake crosshair sight, with three simulated screens off to the side showing static images of fictional vehicle diagnostics. The two seats are upholstered in gray leather, but the car lacks seat belts and climate control. You can get fresh air by removing the windows, though, which are attached by Velcro.

@thatfilthyanimal I completely agree! I actually really like the idea of Megamind patenting and selling some of his less-destructive inventions as well as the Overloard fan theory. (Indeed, I imagine he does more of the latter after becoming a hero.) I have no trouble at all picturing him donating to education programs, child welfare programs, and no-kill shelters even when he was a villain. Beyond that, I completely agree that Megamind certainly knows how to fight and that he's feared by even the scariest tough guys in the city's underbelly. (My own personal fanons definitely play on that.) In fact, although I believe you're correct that Megamind prefers to incapacitate rather than harm, the mere fact that his de-gun has a Death Ray setting tells me that he WILL hurt others if he absolutely has to. Finally, let's be honest... Who among us doesn't love a bit of Megamind dangerkink? I'm only saying. LOL! Thank you for your awesome comment! :)
Fan Theory Thursday – The Not-So-Evil Overlord?
Shhh… Want to hear a secret? Come closer… SPOILER ALERT!
Okay, this one delves a little deep into the imaginative side of Megamind fan theories, however I believe it holds enough interest and has enough support to be well worth discussing. There is a supposition which I frankly love: our favorite blue alien was an Overlord of sorts before he briefly took control of Metro City, and he had good reasons to be so. That might sound a little crazy, but bear with me.
This idea has appeared in several fan fictions, and essentially goes as follows: Megamind was more than a supervillain; he was also a crime boss, and he chose that path for the most unlikely of reasons. Bizarre though it may seem, his primary drive was bettering Metro City. (And, yes, I’m aware of how contradictory that sounds.) However, it’s logical when considered more closely. By making himself the de facto ruler of the city’s underbelly, Megamind was able to control crime to an extent, probably even setting limits on certain activities, and guidelines for others. In the majority of fan fictions using this concept, that includs things like reducing violent crime, setting purity standards and purchase limits for narcotics, and ensuring sex workers were neither underage nor abused.
I’ll be the first to admit that, on the surface at least, this seems like nothing more than fans seeking to justify or even moralize a beloved character, but research reveals that there is actually some support for this theory. Firstly, there is the fact, touched upon previously in the Fan Theory post concerning the Warden, that Megamind was clearly already establishing control over other criminals at a young age. While writing a truly wonderful blog article, Demishock actually went through the trouble of deciphering the newspaper clipping shown at the beginning of the film’s title sequence. It contains, among other things, a reference to the fact that, although an elementary school age child, Megamind was feared and obeyed by other inmates at the prison where he grew up. A quote from the Warden reads: “I’ve got experienced, hardened criminals in here who are afraid of him.” The article goes on to mention an incident which involved a few other inmates, adding that “the other prisoners refused to point fingers for fear of retaliation.”
It is quite possible that Megamind was already building and consolidating a base of power.
Next, there is the fact that the blue man seems to have lines he won’t cross, even as the self-proclaimed Evil Overlord. In one of the storyboards, when Megamind is approached by the Doom Syndicate, he clearly holds them in disdain, yet they are careful to placate him. Obviously they have somewhat different standards. When Agent Orange—who was later reimagined as Psycho-Delic before being cut from the film entirely—compares Megamind’s “inspirational” defeat of Metro Man to “a car crash on prom night,” the blue alien looks rather disgusted. Although they refer to celebrating his victory, it also seems the Doom Syndicate may be indirectly asking Megamind’s permission to go on a crime spree. While this may be because he is the new Overlord, it seems odd that other villains would immediately leap to the assumption such approval is necessary if they were accustomed to acting on their own. However, if they were already in the habit of requesting the blue alien’s sanction, their actions make more sense.
youtube
Whatever the case, it seems that, once again, Megamind and the Doom Syndicate may have very different ideas of what sorts of crimes are acceptable. The Destruction Worker refers to “really putting the screws to the city,” while Agent Orange adds his desire to “swim in the torment of the innocent.” However, these suggestions don’t seem to match what we actually see Megamind doing. In the movie, Megamind does, indeed, go on a crime spree, but none of it appears to be violent. He certainly causes chaos, but no one seems to ever be injured. In fact, in the DVD commentary, one of the creators even states outright that the supervillain never goes beyond vandalism and theft because he doesn’t really want to hurt anybody. (Indeed, in the film it rather seems that, by being raised in jail, bullied, and constantly rejected, Megamind was pushed into supervillainy.) This, together with the previous evidence, paints an image of a man who has been forced to do some harsh things, but who nonetheless dislikes violence and, deep down, possesses a certain moral code, albeit a skewed one.
There are, in fact, several other details that point toward Megamind being far from truly evil despite being a supervillain. As I mentioned in Megamind and Identity, he displays several redeeming qualities, such as his largely friendly treatment of Minion, his respect for Roxanne’s intelligence, and his playful, affectionate game of fetch with the brainbots. However, I won’t go into a long explanation about that here as it can be found in the aforementioned post.
Nonetheless, I don’t believe we can seriously expect that the former villain has never once hurt anyone in his life. Keep in mind that, as discussed in the post How Strong is Megamind, the blue alien almost certainly had to fight in order to survive. However, his unwillingness to attack citizens suggests that he only injured others when it was absolutely necessary. Similarly, the aforementioned “news article” indicates that he may have limited his physically aggressive responses to other criminals only. (After all, the reference to prison inmates fearing him is the sole evidence of possible violence we have.) I have seen it suggested here on Tumblr that he may have taken over Metro City in part because he believed that, if he didn’t, someone worse like the Doom Syndicate would. It may even be possible that he was afraid of appearing soft and thus losing control over the criminal underworld.
Of course, it has to be mentioned here that Megamind also fought with Metro Man, who certainly wasn’t a criminal. However, there are two factors that I believe need to be considered. The first is that it is very likely that Megamind didn’t expect he could truly harm his nemesis. This is evidenced by both the his apparent shock when Metro Man seems to actually be dead, and by his overt statement during the museum scene that he “didn’t think it would really work.” The second is that, as young Metro Man was a bully, tormenting Megamind without provocation and encouraging other children to do the same, Megamind may have mentally placed him in the bad guy/threat category.
His lack of violence is not the only proof that Megamind had a better heart than most credited him for even when he was a supervillain. Keep in mind that he had a holographic disguise watch and a hoverbike. Presumably, Megamind could have simply fled Metro City when Titan turned evil, but he didn’t. Instead he went to Roxanne for help, stating that if they could not find the new villain’s weakness Titan would “destroy the whole city.” And this was after Titan had tried to kill him. Clearly, despite being a supervillain, Megamind cared enough about his home town to put his life in danger.
The final support for the Benevolent Overlord theory is less obvious: Megamind had to have been getting funds from somewhere even when Metro Man was still functioning as the Defender of Metro City. (Indeed, in some of the early concept art, the Evil Lair was imagined as a luxurious space boasting things like a huge library and a sleek laboratory. Some fans still picture the living quarters in much the same way despite the creators stating that he built his inventions from whatever he could get his hands on.) Near the beginning of the movie, Minion mentions a supplier in Romania, and presumably he and Megamind had to be getting food and other necessities somehow. While it’s true that the blue villain was clearly not above thievery, we also know that his plots were always defeated by Metro Man, so it’s safe to assume that he rarely if ever got away with stealing anything before the former hero’s supposed “death.” Of course, it also seems extremely unlikely, even laughable, that Megamind would have had a day job. Where, then, did the money come from? Many fans theorize that, as the local crime boss, he received a cut from all illegal activity. It certainly seems like the most probable explanation.
Art by Kory Heinzen, found in The Art of Megamind by Richard von Busack
So why would Megamind build his technology and machines largely from scrap if he had a constant cash flow? Given his concern for the city, several fan fictions have imagined the blue man secretly and anonymously donating a significant portion of his ill-gotten money to various charities and non-profits. That idea is not directly supported by any evidence, but it does fit with what we know. It’s also consistent with Megamind’s character: a feared supervillain who possesses a surprisingly good heart and, given his past, knows too well what it’s like to be thrown away by society.
So, was Megamind a crime boss as well as a supervillain? Did he use that position to secretly better life in Metro City? If so, is he still doing that now that he is the Defender of Metro City, thus curbing criminal activity from within as well as fighting it from without? (For the record, given that there is no apparent gang war happening during The Button of Doom, I would propose that the answer to the last question may be yes.) These are certainly interesting ideas to consider, and the mere fact that this animated film offers enough details to argue the point is a testament to just how well-constructed the movie is. I consider it yet more proof that the film Megamind is truly an underrated masterpiece.

Plots They COULD have used for the Megamind Sequal
1) Megamind is defending Metrocity, but he's not an official hero until he gets his hero insurance! While a representative from Justice Inc comes by to make sure that Megamind fits the proper hero mold, he, Minion, and Chum have to collect the stuff he sold at his evil Yard Sale before anyone is hurt. While ultimately unsuccessful, Megamind can use his brain-bots and inventions to repair any damage caused more effectively than Justice Inc and continues to defend Metrocity. The CEO of Justice Inc (Iron Man expy, see if we can also somehow reference Kevin Fiege) notes that this could put a dent in their bottom line and make superheroes look bad.
2) Megamind still has the super-serum that created Titan! It can't be replicated, but it's so powerful and volatile that it can't be safely moved or destroyed without risking the city. Roxie suggests giving the power to someone else, but now that Megamind has perspective he's worried about it driving someone crazy. (maybe it's more unstable now that it was inside someone? So it might blow up whomever they give it to.) Metroman just burnt out from being a hero 24/7, what if the next guy turns out like Hal? A new villian is trying to steal it, and Minion and Roxie are tasked with taking it to Metro Man while Megs fights off the new guy. Minion and Metro Man bond over how defined they are by their roles, and if it's truly what they want. There's a joke about Metro Man being legally named Metro Man, and then point out how sad that is. Then draw a line between that and Minion being named Minion. Minion defies Megamind's orders and saves him from the villian, declaring that he wants to be called Chum from now on. He and Metro Man starting meeting for lunch. (…Ship tease Metro Man and Chum?)
3) Megamind is getting overwhelmed by an onslaught of c and d list villians. Turns out the Sinister Syndicate is using him as a starter hero to get supervillians ready for actual acts of villiany. Outraged, he storms down there to get his status changed while Chum and Roxie defend the city. Megamind was never a part of the Sinister Syndicate, and outright drove away anyone who tried to get him to join. Now he's trapped in a maze of bureaucracy, his one weakness. Meanwhile Roxie and Chum, who had made jokes at the expense of Megamind's common sense, are having trouble using his gadgets effectively in actual fights. Forshadow Roxanne getting Titan's powers at the end of the season, but also make it clear that Megamind only makes it look easy. Clarify a little about how I'm ripping off Venture Bros. Supervillians put on a show and make death traps because, if they just start killing people, then the super heroes will also start killing people. So they get together and self-police. They have a system in place to keep things from getting to far out of hand. Megamind is cleared to fight real villains. Introduce his nemesis; the common-sense CEO of the Sinister Syndicate. He's the oppisate of Megamind. Evil is a business, it's all about the money, and there's no reason to enjoy what one does.
4) Roxanne is kidnapped for the first time since she started dating Megamind! The villainous Racer (who keeps changing his name to different racing puns) is tearing up and down the streets of Metrocity, looking for a challenge. Roxanne refuses to be rescued, using her posistion to keep Megs informed and getting a lot of material for her story. Megamind is upset that she didn't want to spend this much time with him when he was kidnapping her. How will this effect their relationship? Megamind talks to Metro Man about Roxanne. Metro Man mentions that fighting Megamind was the closest thing he got to actually talking to people, since everyone put him on a pedastal, and how it stung when his nemesis relationship with Megs also turned into something rote.
5) Megamind and Metro Man get a distress signal from the area of space where their home planets were destroyed. They take a space ship to investigate, only to find an evil collector who puts them up for auction as the last surviving members of their species. Megs and Metro Man reminice about what they remember from their homes and team up to wreck the place.
6) Justice Inc tries to set up their own hero in Metrocity, and Megamind has one week to win the hearts of the people before a vote over weather or not to keep him as City Savior. Roxanne is torn between shilling for her boyfriend or printing an unbiased account of his adventures. Megamind's repeated failures and desperation to be liked give a bad impression, but the city is swayed when it's pointed out that he's defending them because he wants to, not because its a job. Which means he'll do it for free and the city doesn't have to pay Justice Inc a fortune. Megamind is offically on Not!Stark's hit list.
7) Roxanne has to deal with an obnoxious co-worker; a super hero reviewer that rates the effectiveness and style of Megamind in each of his fights. Her accusation of bias are met with his own accusation that's she's very pro-Megamind, despite her decision to be totally truthful in the last episode (which put strain on their relationship.) Meanwhile, Megamind has to deal with an enemy that seems to know all of his tactics! They discover a bug that the villian was using to spy on them, which was secretly placed on Roxie by her Co-worker.
8) A giant monster arises from the deep to destroy America! Megamind has to team up with Justice Inc's top hero team, including Not!Stark and the new guy that was sent to replace Megs a few episodes ago. Megs and new guy bond, and some of the team members warm up to him as he adjusts to not being the one in charge. The team is divided on whether or not they like him, but they're also split on Not!Stark.

Okie dokie ya'll, here's my Megam!nd insert info dump!🎉🎉
Feel free to scroll past, but if you stay, I hope you enjoy! (Also- I couldn't figure out how to put one of those nifty "keep reading" thingies in via moble, so I apologize for that.😅)
BUT ALRIGHTY, HERE WE GO!
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Melissa "Missy" Sinclaire is a Kindergarten teacher at Metro City Elementary, (not to be mistaken for the School for Gifted Children Megamind and Metroman attended). She loves her job and her students more than anything, and it shows in everything she does. However, when Metro City School Board officials begin embezzling money, thus affecting her students, Missy has to take matters into her own hands.
She takes the issue to the mayor, but without solid proof, which she cannot legally obtain, she's sent away with the issue unresolved. The problem only worsens, and her students are beginning to struggle due to lack of materials and hands-on activities. So again Missy's left to act alone. She uses every penny she can spare for her class, but it's worth very little. So, during these desperate times, she does what any sane woman would do in need of money in a hurry-
She robs a pawnshop in the dead of night.
She realizes very quickly just how GOOD she is at it- thus quickly moving onto bigger and better heists! She's stealthy, and the instincts acquired while becoming a teacher makes her crafty in every sense of the word. The only problem is...
There's a certain big-headed defender of "Metrocity," running around trying to catch her.
At first she was getting out far before Megamind would arrive to the crime scene, but as she got more adventurous, the faster he caught on. She was nearly nabbed several times, but always mannaged to weasel her was out.
Until one day, she doesn't.
She gets caught in the middle of her biggest heist yet- The First Bank of Metro City. She ends up locked in the vault with Megamind himself. They battle for what feels like forever, witty banter flying around like arrows, until eventually they wear themselves out.
Now Missy(now going by the alias Madam Sinister), Megamind, and poor Minion are all stuck in this vault. The gaurds have been knocked out, and the police were "letting Megamind handle it ." So, before long, they all just start chatting. They each tell their life stories and have a few laughs.
It's hours before someone finally shows up and lets them out. Missy is hauled into the back of a cop car, and taken away, supposedly to the same prison Megamind grew up in. Having enjoyed their battle and chat, he offers to come snd visit her.
Only... The car never made it to the prison.
It and the officers driving are found the next morning, safely parked in a random field, unharmed amd unconscious. And Missy is on the loose once more, starting a beautiful rivalry with the handsome hero that failed to catch her.

Lucy and Simon are both dhampirs. Lucy actually inherited vampire powers, slightly pointy ears, and fangs while Simon is more humany, though he's rather pale and has his dad's dark rings around his eyes. However, while this is RARE in the HT world, it's not unheard of - their nephew Dennis is the first Dhampir born that we know of. Unlike her vampire half-sister who longs to be more human and seems ashamed of her monstrosity, Lucy relishes in it, calling herself the ultimate goth girl and ENJOYING alot of creepy monstery things. Simon, on the other hand, loves his monstery family but feels like kinda the odd man out as he has no powers, is very large and heavyset like his Van Helsing ancestors, and is kind of shy and reserved compared to the others. Most people seem rather accepting, although there are those on both sides that either dislike or don't really know how to handle that part of them. They do have weaknesses from their ancestry: a garlic allergy, possibly a silver allergy, and while they can day walk, they can still sunburn pretty easily. Especially Simon.
Meg is half meganian, and half human, the only one of her kind since her dad and uncle Minion are the lone survivors of their planet and the only ones of their races who have visited Earth. She's got blueish skin, a large head, brownish blue hair, and a vast intellect compared to humans her age. In general, she's proud of her heritage as the daughter of the hero of Metrocity. Though she has been bullied some for her differences. For the most part, though, she's something like the town's princess and defender. While pretty athletic in some ways, Meg is far more brains than brawn. Like her dad, She's a smol skinny thing with a large head who prefers to think and invent her way out of trouble. Even her mom was an incredibly smart investigative reporter.
If your OC is a cross or hybrid of some kind in your setting, what does that look like for them? How do others react to this part of them?

isnt it a bit weird for you to look down at your own skin color and say "hey blue is now my favorite color!"
Ah, now this one calls for a serious answer from your favorite Heroic Genius and Master of All Invention!
Is it weird? Maybe. Some people would probably say it is, but I have to disagree.
Honestly, blue actually wasn't always my favorite color--it was black, which is still a close second--and I made it part of my signature look more out of defiance than anything else. I was a very angry and self-conscious young man, covering up my feelings of in-add-ick-oo-see with an outward facing "Screw You" attitude. I wore blue as a way of shoving my differences in people's faces... It was my way of saying: "Yeah, that's right, I'm blue, what do you want to do about it?!"
But, honestly, I hated the color of my skin. I worked hard on my look, I loudly called myself "handsome," but that was all... Well, it was a cover-up. Body horror and body dysmorphia are real things, and let me tell you, they really hurt. Evil Heavens do they hurt. They hurt you in more ways than you realize. And that's sad, because no one should think they have to feel that way.
It took a while, but I finally learned that for myself. Thanks to my experiences, my turn o heroism, and, maybe most of all, my exceptional and loving wife, Roxanne, I stopped feeling like a monster. I started accepting that who I am matters, not what I look like, and, slowly, I started even appreciating my physical appearance. Again, my gorgeous and brilliant Roxanne was a huge catalyst for that change. It's hard to feel ugly when someone looks at you the way she does me, and every time I see that expression, it's like a fantastic gift. But that's not the point.
The point is that blue IS my favorite color now. I'm happy to be me and I'm proud of the man I've become. They say "love the skin you're in," and I take that literally. Everybody should.
So, people of Metrocity, no matter who you are, what you look like, or what you feel makes you too different, just know this: You're okay. You're enough. And to your Blue Defender, you are beautiful.
~Megamind, Defender of Metrocity.

FAN THEORY FRIDAY: Is There Proof of Megamind’s Presence in Rise of the Titans?
Special thanks to @thatfilthyanimal for putting in the time and effort to capture the screenshots used in this post! No copyright infringement is intended, and no money is made from this blog.
Okay, seriously this time: SPOILER WARNING!
Yes, yes, I know, this is late again. So sue me. Don't really do that.
This week's fan theory blog article was inspired by a discussion on the Megamind's Evil Lair Discord. Many Megamind fans were sadly disappointed when the first several minutes of Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans took place in Metro City without our favorite blue hero so much as making a cameo. (Really, DreamWorks? Really? Why must you tease us so cruelly?) However, there are some details that hint at Megamind’s presence within his hometown even if he never makes an appearance on screen. Let’s take a look.
The first indication that Megamind is, indeed, somewhere in the background is the city itself. To begin with, the color scheme has definitely changed. In the film Megamind, most buildings are shades of white and golden-brown, hues that call to mind Metro Man’s signature colors. In Rise of the Titans, however, Metro City looks very different. Take a look at the two images below for comparison. Metro City in 2021 sports a lot of black and blue: Megamind’s colors. Has the city slowly reimagined itself, as new structures are built and old ones are renovated, to celebrate its new hero the same way it did the previous one?
There is also a small reference to Megamind in the movie posters that appear all over the city. See the advertisements for the film involving the giant robot? Yeah. If you watch Rise of the Titans, look closely at the background in the subway car; you'll see that the release date is November 5, the same day Megamind was released in 2010. I swear, DreamWorks really is teasing us. Hahaha!
Another detail that stands out about Metro City is that it has become very high-tech. Consider again the differences between the pictures above. Compared to the way it looked in 2010, modern-day Metro City looks almost like something out of a sci-fi movie. (Don’t misunderstand me: I love antique architecture, and I certainly hope the city has kept come of it’s old buildings.) Is it possible that Megamind has given his home town new tech he’s invented, such as affordable and environmentally friendly energy sources that allow for all these new digital signs and lights? Has the new hero helped to improve the economy overall? The city’s businesses certainly seem to be more prosperous.
Which lead us to another difference. In the film Megamind, when Roxanne leaves the restaurant just after discovering “Bernard” is, in fact, the blue supervillain, the streets of Metro City are empty. Of course, it is also raining, but keep in mind that the downpour has only just started. Similarly, in the “Stalker Superhero” scene, when Hal/Titan scares the living daylights out of Roxanne by throwing her around like a rag doll, we see a great many cars on the road, but relatively few people out walking. Granted, Megamind himself may be partly to blame for this—he has taken over the city, after all—but there is still a marked difference between those scenes and the nighttime scene of Metro City in Rise of the Titans. In the modern urban center, people are casually walking all over the place as well as using public transportation, and many businesses appear to be open late. Clearly, local citizens feel very safe being out and about at night.
Furthermore, speaking of public transportation, Metro City seems to have gained a new, high-tech bullet train system. Is this something else Megamind has designed and ordered his brainbots to build? Many fans say yes, and I have to admit that it seems likely. Installing a technologically advanced (and probably environmentally friendly) method of safe, affordable transport for citizens simply feels like something an ingenious, inventive alien superhero would do.
Many may doubt whether this has anything to do with Megamind, but there is one more little detail that hints that that may be the case. Look in the background of the image below. One of the high-tech billboards features an interesting silhouette. It’s a little hard to see, but it certainly seems to be a very skinny person with a bald head striking a heroic pose and wearing a cloak. Is this an image of Megamind? If so, it’s more proof that the Blue Defender is still very much present in Metro City, that his home town is indeed celebrating his heroism, and that he may therefore be inferred to be one reason everyone feels so prosperous and safe.
There is also the difference between the police as they appear in the film Megamind and as they appear in Rise of the Titans. Firstly, as I have mentioned before in Why Did Metro Man Retire, a storyboard for the original movie made it clear that law enforcement grew too reliant on having a superpowered hero around while Metro Man was the Defender. This may be why they all were so quick to drop their weapons when Megamind commanded them to shortly after taking over the city. We also see in that same scene outside the mayor’s office that the police are armed with guns.
However, in Rise of the Titans, we see the MCPD actually working, and we see that they are armed with what appear to be stun guns. This is very interesting because there is a long-standing fan theory, found in fictions such as TruthandAdare’s Plausible Deniability, that Megamind invented technologically-advanced non-lethal weapons for local law enforcement. There is also the fact that the two scenes appear similar, and I think we all know enough about DreamWorks’s animators’ love for hiding thoughtful details in their films to believe this is an accident. Not to mention, of course, that the force would have to get some new blood and step up their involvement now that their Defender can’t move faster than sound to practically be in two places at once. Is that why we are seeing these changes in Metro City’s police in Rise of the Titans?
Finally, there is one more tiny image that may, just possibly, point toward Megamind’s continued position as Defender of Metro City. In one scene of Rise of the Titans, we see a busy city street, but several of the vehicles seem to be canted sideways as if making way for something we can’t see. Did Megamind’s invisible car just come through? I admit, this one is a bit of a stretch, but I am going to choose to believe it’s possible. You can even see what appears to be an “empty” path through the traffic. I’m going to say that this may well be thanks to the invisible car, and there’s nothing you can do to stop me.
So there you have it: several features in the first few minutes of Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans that suggest, to varying degrees, Megamind is still the Defender of Metro City and is still very much active. Of course, all of this is supposition, and readers can believe as much and as little of it as they like. However, it does give me hope that, perhaps, DreamWorks has not entirely forgotten one of the greatest movies they’ve ever made. Maybe we may yet still see a Megamind sequel one day. Until then, however, we can count on fans to keep finding amazing theories connected to this wonderful animated film!

Even more spoilers! (and edits from this morning in the previous bit above)
So while all of this has been going on with our least favourite bad guys, Roxanne has finally been starting to come into her own, even going so far as to claim her title as Mistress of Evil, she's adopting her own henchmen, she's getting playdates with Georgie, there's even an emotionally charged moment where Megamind finally works through some of his secrecy issues and gives her a key to the Lair. And best of all she has a plan for dealing with Metro Man and Megamind's endless battles in a way that will hopefully let both of them rest without the Defender's Council or any other villain getting involved.
Naturally this plays to her reporterly strengths and sneaky wiles and our girl is having the TIME OF HER GODDAMN LIFE.
Megamind has never been more in love.
Unfortunately, Hal getting fired has meant he's popped up like a bad smell at Channel 8 so while Roxanne doesn't have to share a van with him anymore, he's still getting in her face at press conferences and post kidnapping rescue publicity. He's also getting a lot more sneaky at taking photos of Roxanne when she's not looking.
Jonathan is DELIGHTED by what Hal presents him with. He can finally get rid of that pesky Ritchi once and for all.
I'll let you decide how well you think THAT is going to go. It may involve an interview, a cloaked Megamind and Roxanne smiling oh so professionally at the camera while she watches her lover hold a degun to her boss's throat. It's fucking glorious.
Hal may or may not get cubed and posted to Utah.
Alas what goes up, must come down, and as a result of Roxanne's grand Cycle Breaking Plan, she discovers Delic is NOT in Defender Council custody as previously assumed.
This is a Problem. The plan right now hinges on making sure everything in Metrocity stays perfectly balanced and they cannot afford this kind of uncertainty.
But they're already committed so full steam ahead!
Does this also result in some kind of emotional soul baring between Megamind and Roxanne about how commited they are to one another and why it's so important she can do this for him? Oh probably. There's messy public sex about it regardless.
Things all come to a head when Wayne flies off to the Defender's Council to enact his part of Roxanne's plan and the city is left undefended.
The Conductor and Mayor meanwhile, have been delighted by the news Roxanne has been carefully leaking about Wayne's reasons for meeting with the Council and decide now is the perfect time to enact their final plan!
Well, the conductor decides. The Mayor is realising hard and fast that he has no way of controlling his pocket pyro but he doesn't really mean to destroy the entire city, des he? Who would possibly want to give up that much money?
Delic hears "burn down the city" and his self preservation instincts kick in again, he makes a break for it and shows up at Megamind's Lair intending to spill the beans and beg for mercy only to come face to face with Roxanne.
Roxanne who has her own degun.
Roxanne who FUCKING LOVES her own degun.
Roxanne who leaves a neat little cube on Megamind's desk and heads off to work with a spring in her step. Where she is asked to attend an onsite interview at a partially constructed building with the Mayor.
It's like the universe WANTS her to have a good day.
Right up until she comes face to face with the Conductor and the Mayor and gets knocked out and tied up, dumped in some unknown corner of a random construction site.
Megamind has no idea this has happened until he finally gets around to misting Roxanne's present and oh fuck it's Delic.
What do you mean The Conductor's back?
What do you mean he wants to burn the city?
What do you mean he's working with the Mayor?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN ROXANNE IS MISSING?!
Roxanne is not having the best day at this point. She knows she's here as bait, she knows she can't call for Wayne becuase he's across the country and it will put the whole Plan in jepoardy.
But she's used to being tied up. And she knows how to work her audience. All she needs is the chance to grab her bag and she can call for help...
The Conductor has fried her phone. And he broke her compact. Some things are unforgiveable.
Roxanne's feral instincts once again rear their heads and instead of just escaping like a normal person, she digs out her in case of emergencies purse and pulls out a certain cube.
Those bastards aren't going to know what hit them.
MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR TEA WITH TOPSY AHEAD!!!!
I had a shower ramble about the past, present and future of all the little satellite plots Topsy has swirling around to try and work out who and what and why is happening next
Hokay so!
In the beginning there were random fires cropping up around Metro City. This was because the Mayor had been paying someone to pay kids and randoms in firecrackers to set fire to hedges and post boxes in the hopes of driving down property prices. This was because he had hatched a plan with his old frat buddy Charles Mclaren and his company Dexcore to buy up dodgy properties and convert them into gentrified homes for young professionals (working class who? never heard of them). He has plans for this city, big plans.
One day way back in chapter 4 (ish?), Metro Man hurled some bombs Megamind had planted around the city into the lake. This knocked loose some of the plastic wrapped cubes Megamind held down there for people he waanted permanently out of the way but didn't want to directly kill for whatever reason (mostly for punishment reasons, also probably an alien thing, bones of your enemies laid in the deep etc etc).
One of those cubes was The Conductor.
The Conductor, thanks to several years as a cube, had some funky shit happning with his powers now and teamed up with the Mayor while he was still half out of it. The Mayor now has a pocket pyro for his gentrification plan and The Conductor is figuring out his brand new fire powers hile imagining Megamind burning under his hands. Y'know, normal response.
The Mayor is surprisingly fine with this.
That's because the Mayor's plans also extend to getting some of that sweet, sweet Defender's Council money that the MetroMegaRox combination has locked him out of. Naturally he considers Roxanne the thin edge of the wedge, if they can just get rid of her, Metro City can have a brand new Defender's Council Approved Damsel, complete with sponsorship deals and merchandise. If the Coductor manages to knock off Megamind as well, even better! A supervillain in his pocket and a new damsel on the ropes and surely at that point Metro Man will agree to some of the Defender's Council merchandising deals.
The Mayor spends a lot of time dreaming in dollar signs.
So plan one, blow Megamind and Roxanne up, that doesn't go as planned, oh well, onto the next one. Calling up another of his old frat buddies in the form of Jonathan Chisolm. Max gets promoted and here's the new boss, much worse than the old boss.
Jonathan has one job, find a reason to fire Roxanne Ritchi (he's probably also getting property tips).
Unfortunately for him, Roxanne is EXCEEDINGLY good at her job, and thanks to her status as an unofficial damsel, he can't really rely on uprofessional behaviour as an excuse.
Roxanne gets Charles McLaren arrested. She's also mid panic attack over realisng her feelings for Megamind so this takes something of a back seat.
A short while later she gets Delic arrested as well.
Delic and Mclaren wind up in the same cellblock. Mclaren thinks he's found a friend. Delic knows he's found a meal ticket. (Delic is also very carefully considering his next move seeing as Megamind can't actually touch him while he's in jail, he's being very smug about that).
While Delic and Mclaren are being cell block buddies, The Conductor is also starting to make a plan of his own. He's not interested in gentrification or money, he just wants to make sure Megamind and he has ever built or cared for burns to ash. And it turns out all those dexcore buildings burn so easily, and there are so many of them in the city, what a wonderful opportunity this will be.
Mayor Hank doesn't quite know when he stopped being in charge but he's definitely no longer the boss he thought he was. He does get Delic out of prison (always handy to have an extra villain also keen on destroying your enemies) and sets him and the Conductor up in the fanciest penthouse suite the city has on offer.
Delic wants revenge, sure. But he's way more interested in riding this gravy train for as long as he can. Apparently old Chuckie is in rehab, ah well, he can sit tight until his buddy old pal reappears and they can start having themseslves a REAL good time.
The Mayor however, is starting to get really mad that not only is Roxanne Ritchi not fired, she's making him look like an idiot as well. He's got a damsel right there and waiting! Why can't she just disappear already?!
**FUTURE SPOILERS FROM HERE**
The Opera is the last straw. If Jonathan isn't going to fix things, he'll do it himself. The Conductor gets an address for one Roxanne Ritchi and a direct order to burn her place to the ground.
The Conductor does not take well to being told what to do. He takes quite significant offence in fact and burns down one of Roxanne's coworker's building instead.
This does get Roxanne out of her building and into the Lair for 10 days. Megamind is QUITE delighted!
Shortly after, so is the Mayor, he may not have a new damsel, but Metro Man just offered to buy the destroyed building at pre fire value! This is brilliant! He's going to tell the Conductor the good news immediately, oh they are going to make so much money...
The Conductor is not impressed by this.
Delic takes the opportunity to avoid mummy and daddy fighting to sneak downstairs and finds where Charles has been hiding.
Or at least what's left of him.
Delic has some THOUGHTS about this.
To be continued tomorrow....
#tea with topsy spoilers#spoilers#from there its mostly the last big fight and Megamind crashing in halfway through at the perfect moment#the less than supervillain evil is defeated#and everyone celebrates with We Survived! sex#then end and the epilogue

Chapters: 23/36 Fandom: Megamind (2010) Rating: Mature Relationships: Megamind/Roxanne Ritchi
Summary: Canon-Compliant starting immediately after Megamind defeats Hal.
Being the Defender of Metrocity is not a title one earns easily. Like most things Megamind would like to have, it’s earned with trust. He barely knows the meaning of the word.

Chapter 23 is up! Megamind is bi and no I will NOT let anyone forget it.

Megamind au,
Roxanne gets Megamind to help her fake her own death (because of Hal) and out of mourning, Metroman dedicates a small (respectful) part of his museum to her.
Queue the whole mix up with Megamind/Bernard except its Metroman there upset because he thinks he’s failed as a hero etc.
They fall in love, yadda yadda. I can’t decide if I like Metroman not knowing or knowing because of his powers but doesn’t say anything. Both can have interesting liar revealed scenes. Esp when it’s flipped on Metroman having been the liar for “playing along” and mot saying that he knew the whole time.
With Roxanne either gone on a much needed vacation/or in hiding with minion. She would be able to be Megamind’s voice of reason for his feelings for Metroman. Or giving Megamind ideas on how to keep their professional Hero/Villain facade going without their damsel in distress. Or to help Metroman get his confidence back, find his spark, after thinking he’s failed.
Can’t decide on what way I want to bring Roxanne back into the picture... maybe one of their ideas leads to Hal stumbling into the lab to try and get revenge? I don’t like the idea of Roxanne not getting to defend herself regarding Hal... but then again these are more fleshed out for fics/rps than full narrative movies.
ALTERNATIVELY
Au 2:
Megamind fakes his death because he comes to the “not evil” epifany waaay too earlier for anyone to actually believe him. Atleast not that he thinks.
When it’s clear Metroman doesn’t have much purpose now except becoming a glorified errand boy/purse retreaver for Metrocity, Eventually Tries to replace himself with a new villain for Metroman to fight. except when Hal is accidentally injected, Megamind doesn’t realize how bad /true evil/ is and has to drop his current “permanent” human appearance to help save the city. (Bernard esque, probably with a badly misspronounced common name.)
Can still have the same liar revealed scenes between Roxanne and Metroman respectfully.
I feel like theres a lot of potential for deeply intimate/personal scenes of Metroman and/or Roxanne mourning the loss of someone that everyone else (including Megamind himself) only thinks is evil/unworthy of feeling loss over.
I haven’t really thought about how minion would play into this one specifically, atleast not to the level he was in in the actual movie. Harder to fit the best comedic relief character into angstier aus. Ugh.

I beg your pardon? Did I just hear you say you think your Incredibly Handsome Heroic Genius was over-served?
Good heavens! You sound like Minion! I most certainly was not drunk! While I may enjoy occasional craft beers and fine wines, rest assured that your favorite Blue Defender NEVER drinks to excess... Well, except for that one time when I was explaining, you know, black holes... Which we’re not going to discuss again... EVER...
The point is that I am an excellent role model for Metrocity’s children and therefore was definitely not at all inebriated.
On Alcohol.
I may have possibly consumed 3 Jolt Colas, 12 espressos, 5 Red Bulls, 4 bags of gummy worms, and an entire chocolate cream pie, but definitely no alcohol.
Unless it was in the pie... Which tasted slightly like creme de cacao and Kahlua liqueur. it couldn’t have been much, though, could it?
And, really, I do have to stay awake, you know!
Alright, yes, I admit that that may have made me a little silly. Very slightly. And perhaps just a touch overly-energetic.
I may have possibly designed and built a new device that uses Earth’s electromagnetic energy to power the lights and outlets in the Lair as well as repainting the entire living room with a completely accurate star chart all in a single day.
But that hardly counts as “drunk!“ And by making such a base and unfounded accusation against the truly amazing Defender of Metrocity you have unwittingly sealed your own fate! MWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
I’ve got a glitter gun with your name on it!
I’ve also got one with my name on it! And one with Roxanne’s! And one with Minion’s!
WHY you ask?!
Well, because Roxanne vetoed the idea of a water gun fight, (she says it’s still too chilly for humans to be outdoors wet,) then Minion completely lost his composure when I suggested using hot cocoa instead.
So we’re going to have a GLITTER WAR!
See what you’ve done? I hope you’re happy! lol!
