Random Doctor Who Facts You Might Not Know, Part 49
If you recall from a previous part, it is a class 2 intervention for a Time Lord to set themselves up as a god, and the punishment for this is vaporization. (Audio: False Gods) On an unrelated note, the Doctor is referred to ans treated as a god by many races and species in many different stories.
The Fifth Doctor has given Turlough and likely his other companions long, extended lectures on cricket. (Audio: Phantasmagoria)
The Master was connected to everything and nothing while stuck inside the Eye of Harmony. (Audio: Planet of Dust)
Sarah Jane was aware of the Master before they met in the Death Zone. (Novel: Managra) This suggests that maybe she heard of him through journalism or through UNIT, or maybe, of course, the Doctor spoke about the Master often enough that she became somewhat familiar with who he is.
The Twelfth Doctor once performed surgery on Danny Pink when he had been caught in a blast on an alien world. It was very important to both of them that Clara never found out about it. (Audio: War Wounds)
Time Lords have an instinctive fear of the Ravenous, like how sheep tend to be afraid of wolves and how deer freeze in headlights. (Audio: Deeptime Frontier)
By one account, Sarah Jane thought of the Third Doctor as a father figure but the Fourth Doctor as a mad uncle. (Novel: Managra)
The Master keeps a well stocked liquor cabinet. (Novel: Deadly Reunion)
Under the influence of cyberparticles, K-9 would say "no" instead of "negative." (Audio: The Fate of Krelos)
The Fourth Doctor recalled beating Ernest Hemingway at tiddlywinks, and apparently, Hemingway never forgave him for it. (Audio: Death Match)
The First Doctor and Susan were being pursued by the Chancellery Guard when they stole the TARDIS and ran away from Gallifrey. (Audio: The Beginning)
The Fifth Doctor once used his cricket bat to deflect a sword blow, but his cricket bat was damaged by the impact. This saddened the Doctor. (Comic: The Tides of Time)
The Guardians of Time number six in total and is called the Six-Fold God. All the aspects of the universe are split amongst the six of them. Included in the Six-Fold God are the White Guardian of Light in Time, the Black Guardian of Darkness and Chaos, and the Crystal Guardian of Dream and Fantasy (also known as the Toymaker). (Novel: Divided Loyalties)
The Fifth Doctor and Turlough once showed up to stop an evil from committing murder, only to find multiple versions of the TARDIS nearby and that the previous victims, burnt beyond recognition, all had two hearts. The Doctor realized that he was caught in a paradox and that the previous victims were his future selves who had also shown up to stop the murders. (Audio: Repeat Offender)
According to some, the Doctor was the best agent the Celestial Intervention Agency ever had. (Audio: Intervention Earth)

Thoughts on ‘Seizure’ in the shadow of Ravenous 3
Ravenous 3 is just round the corner, so I just thought I’d write down some thoughts on Seizure, the last episode of Ravenous 2, before they become out of date.
When I first listened to Seizure I had a lot of issues with it. This might be partly because the rest of Ravenous 2 really exceeded my expectations, while Seizure was a 45 minute story filled with horror cliches that ignored characters’ continuity while not doing anything new with them, and which made a rather underwhelming introduction to the titular ‘Ravenous’. But an article in Vortex, Big Finish’s magazine changed my mind about it.
The behind the scenes disc of Ravenous 2 already told me that Matt Fitton was originally supposed to write episode 4, but was replaced by Guy Adams, explaining why the writer was someone other than Fitton or Dorney for the first (and only) time in the series. But the article on Raveous 3 in Vortex #121 told me 2 new pieces of information; firstly that originally, episode 4 was going to be Deeptime Frontier, which is now the first episode of Ravenous 3, and secondly that it was changed because Matt Fitton had to deal with a death in his family. So uh, I can’t really blame them for changing writers suddenly. I hope Matt’s okay!
Anyway, I think having to suddenly get a new writer to squeeze in a whole new episode makes sense of a lot of the flaws of Seizure. If the Ravenous themselves were meant to be properly introduced in Deeptime Frontier, then Adams presumably had to find ways to use one without stealing too much of the material that the next episode is built on. Maybe the hasty change is why the episode doesn’t really fit with the previous episode re Helen’s experience with TARDISes. It’d also explain why the episode’s shorter than usual, which I’m grateful for because at least it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Seizure essentially had to be written as the prequel to a story that hadn’t come out yet, so I can imagine that would make some difficulties.
I relistened to the episode today in preparation for Ravenous 3, and I did enjoy it more. The horror cliches aren’t really that bad, who doesn’t like a corridor filled with blood TARDIS coolant. I feel like it can’t really be critically judged until the next series comes out.
That being said, I look forward to the next series making the Ravenous more interesting. I was baffled by the fact that the series was named after them, and that in interviews the cast and crew thought they were great monsters, because to me they were absolutely nothing special. Monsters from Time Lord folklore? We’ve had that. Monsters waxing lyrical about being hungry? We’ve definitely had that. Unusually for an audio creature, even their visual design disappointed me; coming out a year after the cultural hullabaloo about Stephen King’s IT made the clown imagery seem lazy and boring to me. Maybe someone agreed with me, because they’re nowhere to be found on any other cover in the series so far, except hiding at the very back of The Odds Against.
But I hope I’m not coming off as unfairly cynical. I can’t wait for Ravenous 3! The promotional material make it seem like the Eleven’s in danger of getting a redemption arc, which had been sadly snatched away from him in Ravenous 1, so I’m excited to see how that pans out! His arc in the series has the potential to be very, very interesting.
And finally, I’ll admit that I was going to type here that I didn’t even know why Seizure has its title, until I googled the word’s definition and discovered that I had completely forgotten that it can mean “the action of capturing someone or something using force”. NOW it makes sense.
