The  Half-Moon  Club  once  a  thriving  night  bar  turned  almost-dilapidated  building  .  It  exploded  at  the  hands  of  Two  Face  yet  Harvey  heart  still  yearned  for  the  old  sentimental  building  so  a  compromise  was  the  rebirth  of  the  place  they  once  ran  closed  the  town  in  .  They  rustled  up  enough  scores  to  organise  the  recreation  of  the  club  now  turned  jazz  bar  .

Seated above the conversational chatter and lively jazz of the lounge was V, at a booth on the indoor balcony. They took an interest in the hustle and bustle below, but had no wish to interact. The finely dressed socialite was a work associate, occasionally a client, but never a leisurely companion. V finds the former at their table— a leisure of the lonesome variety.

Yet, they didn't truly wish to be alone. They liked the sound of people, needed it. Needed a distraction. A light drink, a nice meal, and the illusion of company was just what they needed.

The low growl brings their gaze upward, though their attention lingers on the sound as they process the proposition. "Oh!" Their brows raise in slightly-delayed surprise. Gesturing to the chair opposite to them, they give a small smile. The empty seat beside them seemed the more familiar option, though they weren't sure if that would test their luck.

"I thought I was going to be alone tonight. People watching makes for excellent inspiration, but not much else."

Since the NRC Nightmare cast is trapped in Halloween Town with nowhere to sleep, they all end up camping out in the Assembly Hall and have to sleep on the pew benches 😭

The reason I want to talk about this is because it reveals a lot about some of the character's morning routines we didn't know yet which I find funny and cute

It starts with Sebek, who has been awake since before the sun rose, becoming everyone's alarm clock

He makes it a point to wake up early every morning so that he can be presentable as early as possible lmao (also he has no problem sleeping in hard places, so long as he has a roof over his head he's content. It's all that training he does lol)

Jamil can't even fathom how Sebek can wake up refreshed without an alarm clock (because Jamil always needs an alarm clock to wake up) and Sebek's just like 'I'm built different'

He also reveals that Skully left earlier to watch the sunrise and will be back.

Of the people Sebek woke up with his yelling, there's MC, Grim, Jamil, Epel, Idia, Riddle, Trey, Vil and Azul

The people who DIDN'T wake up are Leona, Malleus, and Jade.

Malleus sleeps like a vampire lmao

One moment he's asleep, the next moment he's instantly completely awake (Trey also comments that he wakes up looking perfect too like damn)

Jade finds hard surfaces oh so comfy from his many camping trips and is also just equally unbothered by Sebek's screaming.

Then there's master eeper Leona who, despite complaining, sleeps well literally anywhere to other's jealousy

When Skully comes back it's revealed he straight up didn't sleep at all. What was he doing the whole night before getting up to walk around and watch the sunrise 🤨

Either way, I thought this interaction was fun and I learned something new about everyone, hopefully they can get actual blankets soon.

Complaining abt Suicide Squad yet again but the fact that they have Waller exposing the alien community to space racist attacks and talking abt how she got to her position through deceit and being a terrible person and stuff is just. Ahsfiwueh JUST SAY YOU DONT KNOW WALLER.

Anyways literally the 3rd mission of the Squad ever (and the first framed as smth Waller picked and not orders from above) was the Squad discrediting and stopping a rogue vigilante who was only arresting POC and funneling white people into white supremacy groups (of which he was the most prominent member) in SUICIDE SQUAD #4. and it's explicitly framed as this mission being personal for Waller that she's hiding from the government bc its illegal like. Guys. Please why are we having her incite (space bc comics) racist attacks now

Also the whole "Amanda got her position through deceit and being a terrible person" NO. she KEPT her position through being shitty and playing complicated political games!!! She wasn't always that way like there is a difference and it is IMPORTANT ppl PLEASEEEE. In Secret Origins #14 we learn Amanda's backstory and she used to be a normal, caring person! Like even after she entered into working in government and politics she wasn't automatically morally bankrupt like please people. She was originally given control of the Squad by Reagan (*sigh* 80s comics...) to distract and get rid of her because she was so successful at pushing progressive social policy in Congress. Acting like she's this static pillar of evil is such a waste of her character and so fucking uninteresting and disrespectful to her arc it drives me MAD.

Like I am NOT saying Waller is all sunshine and rainbows, she fucking SUCKS (said w love <3) but like there's a human being there. It's a progression, she has a character arc like please, DC, please!!! They've fucked up Waller so bad and made her so opaque and uninteresting she can't even be the protagonist of her own story for fucks sake!

Like I don't know how many times I have to scream it until DC hears me or remembers but WALLER IS THE MAIN CHARACTER OF SUICIDE SQUAD. ITS HER BOOK. yet right now she's a cutout to be used as the villain wherever the writers please. Even in her book we get none of her perspective really displayed, no exploration of her thoughts with any kind of understanding of the role she traditionally has played and was made to play in the story.

AAAHhhgg okay okay i was gonna make a separate post about it for the Wolfgang Wednesday so this is a great opportunity for me to talk about it, thank you!!

SO. the context behind the events of the comic (that i decided would drag down the script and left them at just *implied by dialogue and details*) is that Wolfgang has been trailing Bastien for weeks before this meeting and very much carefully prepared for it.

first they genuinely wanted to repay the favor of Bastien de facto saving their life, second they feel genuine remorse for how they acted and how they left things before (Bastien dressed their wounds at knife point, with Wolfgang not saying much other than threats and leaving without a word, not to mention the scar they left them with. despite this Bastien never went to the cops about it).

first they needed to track him down - fortunately the word of the clinic travels fast within their circles, and from there they have been watching Bastien for a while: noting down his schedule, who he meets and where, where he lives, who he dates, his habits. all as part of checking out who this guy even is, if they can be trusted, and to help Wolf figure out a plan of how to approach him.

they adjust their appearance to be.. a bit less intimidating (no high heels :( ), and they try out smoking beforehand to practice the movements. they rely on their beauty and charm to help smooth out the rest.

and so not only they show up at exactly the time when Bastien would be leaving the clinic and having his last cigarette of the day, they are there already smoking. very normal very casual. it's actually a stroke of luck Bastien doesn't have his lighter at hand, and they can light his cigarette for him, it's a nice unforced interaction and simple favor so they latch onto that opportunity.

when i was scripting this, the goal was this dance of push and pull - Wolfgang pushing into his personal space and trying to see how far he would let them, Bastien pulling away, Wolfgang changing their approach on the fly and trying again until they find their way in.

they both leave that meeting a lot more interested in each other than they expected to be (especially Wolf, who mostly just expected to complete their apology errand).

smoking itself doesnt really do much for Wolfgang, but the motions, the ritual of it is something they retain as a form of easy, casual interaction at first that of course grows into something different entirely over the years : )
