Legolas' Cave Trauma
Tumblr media
So it occurred to me that it seemed a bit weird that Legolas, who arguably has spent hundreds of years in a freaking cave palace, would be as anti-cave as he is in the books when Gimli goes off about the wonder of the Glittering Caves in Helm's Deep. So I had to reconcile these two facts. I consulted with the council of Elrond (aka my Tolkien friends) and one of them was like "just cause he lived in the caves doesn't mean he liked it. Thranduil had made the cave palace as a stronghold against the evils of the world outside his realm" while my thoughts was just "Legolas has cave trauma after Moria".
Because as we all know Legolas absolutely loses his shit when he sees the Balrog, like full on screaming Elvish meltdown.
So I combined the two theories to run along this line... Legolas was never a fan of caves, growing up on stories of the evil things that dwelt under the mountains he probably was not a huge fan when that's where his dad decided to repair to as the world grew more perilous. I picture little Leggy being especially scared of the Balrogs in stories told to him as a child. We gotta remember Balrogs are an extremely ancient and distant myth for even a lot of the elves, especially the "less wise" elves of Thranduil's folk. Most peoples are convinced that the last of the Balrogs perished in the War of Wrath, heck even people like Elrond may think this. So for Legolas this is his childhood monster under the bed, the Elvish Boogeyman. Balrogs shouldn't exist. They're just a scary story you tell kids to make them behave or to exemplify the valor of the elves of old who slew them. Some legends may say that some survived in deep places of the world but no one believes them any more, except maybe for little elven princelings but they grow up and grow out of it and after hundreds of years living in their dad's cave palace they're just an embarrassing memory of childhood fears.
But then Moria happens and it's his nightmares coming and standing before him more terrifying than he even imagined as a child and then striking down the most powerful being he's ever known. And it's just terrorizing and traumatizing and while the time in Lorien helps to settle his nerves he's none too eager to ever step foot underground again.
Especially to unknown caves.
Especially to a place underground that Gimli is a excited about.
The last time this happened he saw the terror of tales of long ago come to living reality in front of his eyes.
This may even be part of the reason why Legolas won't repeat the laments for Gandalf. "The grief is too near" and so is the terror. He doesn't wanna think about his living nightmare again, especially so soon. Of course he heals somewhat from his Cave Trauma and his friendship with Gimli helps I'm sure, after all they probably talked about it while they were hanging in Lorien becoming besties. And in turn seeing Legolas willingly go underground to take the Paths of the Dead encourages him to follow. He's just seen his bestie face his fears and now he must do the same.

🦡🌙🦡🌙🦡🌙.
From the creators of "Windy is obsessed with finding meaning in dark fiction" now we have "Everything can be esoteric if you manifest hard enough with its aid".
Leaving this here because I find it needed and very meaningful on a personal level for me to remember forever when I look back to this blog over the years. I'll talk more about it under the cut for the ones curious but isn't needed if you prefer to just look at my scratchy artwork (quotes are from pinterest).
WARNING: I'll ramble about my pop culture magic practices. They are VERY personal but I feel what I learned from it deserves to have a spotlight here being tied to my creativity. If any of you don't vibe and/or believe on such, I suggest moving on. Thanks!.
(PS Copy and Paste from my IG! I tend to share more of these explorations there on temporal Stories)
Some of you have seen slightly over this year my crazy exploration of what looks like an artist who started with a simple fixation to then hurl some sort of "celebrations" with candles and animal figurines. Yeah, like what the photos show hahaha. No worries, I'm fine. I'm not raising a cult or going mad by some comical eldritch revelation (I wish). (jkjkjk). In all seriousness: some of you already know but for the ones that don't, I'm a witch. Mostly the "Moon Stalker" type follows rituals related to the cycle of it. I work a bit with the four elements too, and know a tad about divination with cards, and "classic" witchy things. Tho I never delved into spellcasting and kept everything in a tidy box of the expected... until I learned the past year about Pop Culture Magic, with pagans and witches that make use of modern iconography and even reinvent the formula to tie better to their lifestyle instead of following recipes to a T. Something I found PERFECT for my eclectic way to interpret these practices. For the first time, I tried not only my own spells but created a magic partner, "Bodyguard Badger" the servitor! It will sound dummy but during half of the year, through this make-believe experience, I kept tabs on my mental health and body awareness I was so dragged when things went south economically-emotionally where I live. And I wished for some of that energy I already got attached to actually BE there for me, weaponize it to my advantage.
To embody something that would help me stand for myself when everyone out there tried to step over my existence. Or to keep in control when it was obvious things weren't on my hands, because sometimes I needed to let things be and not try to repair everything out of my jurisdiction.
This little critter reminded me of that. Or more like, reinforced on me the worth of my energy and time.
To don't hesitate to cut what was making me sick from the inside out or face certain people's attitude with the indifference they deserved for trying to press their naughty views on me.
Six months later, when I felt it accomplished its task (I endured the loss of a pet, and of my job without much fuzz but a bit of collected indignation), I gave it one last "feast" ritual and said goodbye to the servitor on the past last Full Moon. Idk if any of this makes sense but for me, it meant so much. Creating something that caters to my tastes and whims on a raw level. Something that mixes what I know with what I'm still learning. Is so exciting to know I can do this! I will miss it. But I'm sure someday I'll call it again: It's never far away from my grasp!

tired of female rage being depicted as controlled and like a building storm that's executed perfectly and gracefully without a hair out of place. so well spoken, so well trained. i want women to scream incoherently. i want them to break mirrors and eat the glass. i want them to scratch eyes out and draw blood in chunks. i want brutality. i want ugly. i want people to be too afraid to move because they're worried she'll spot them next.

The Outer Wilds solar system: complete! It was a true labor of love and I'm so proud of how it turned out 🌌🌠
Video here!
Pattern: my own! Almost everything is some form of flat crochet circle, however, plus some embroidery details. Dark Bramble is partly tapestry crochet, and the quantum moon is movable as it's on a button! :D
Yarns: there are many so there's a list below!
Background - Malabrigo Dos Tierras in 'Paris Night' (yes all of it! The border is a different colourway! Looks intentional, right? :P)
Timber Hearth - Life In The Long Grass Twist DK in 'Moorlands' (thank you Northern Yarn)
Attlerock - Woollen Wytch SW Merino DK in 'Overcast' (thank you Woollen Wytch and Alterknit Universe)
The Quantum Moon yarn was held with silver thread and it has a clear button on the back (thank you Hester's Haberdashery)
