Washington State Ferry Klickitat, Eagle Harbor, Bainbridge Island, 2009.

Taken as the decommissioned ferry was waiting to be towed to Ensenada, México where it was scrapped later that year. The Klickitat had a long history. Originally built in the 1920s for use on San Francisco Bay, in 1940 after completion of the Bay Bridge the boat was sold to Puget Sound Navigation Company (the Black Ball Line), a precursor of Washington State Ferries, Originally called MV Stockton, the renamed Klickitat served on Puget Sound from 1940 to 2007.

FEAR-VNT-001 "Eine"

- The leader of the group.

- Her personality is the closest to what you'd expect from a FEAR unit; timid, introverted, avoids other units that arent her own cadre.

- Very cautious about her surroundings, triple checks routes before proceeding.

- Shell is painted with red eyes, and the Nation's insignia on her chest. She says it helps her feel closer to home.

FEAR-VNT-002 "Zwei"

- Outgoing and extroverted, a surprising trait for a unit of her type.

- She can be quite impulsive and have a tendancy to act first and think later.

- Is usually the one braiding everyone else's hair, keeping a positive mood and always hoping for the best, even if she knows how her story will end.

- Life is short, might as well enjoy it while you can, right?

FEAR-VNT-003 "Drei'

- A fall from a collapsing floor in a building left her suit and shell critically damaged, and her arm needing to be removed. The suit was discarded, and her shell patched up with scrap materials, but she knows it wont help much; she knows that she'll be the first to die from the contamination around them.

- Due to her injuries, she's most often the one finding and setting up their camp sites, sticking behind while the others go off and perform their duties.

- She tries to use what little time she knows she has left to help the others feel comfortable and happy.

FEAR-VNT-004 "Vier"

- The voice of reason within the group. Despite Eine being the leader, most group decisions go through her first before being passed.

- Often the one collecting supplies and trinkets, rather than cleaning up.

- Prefers wearing Gestalt clothing over her shell, for "decency".

- Quite stand-offish, but she doesnt mean to be rude. Its just a little hard to be nice sometimes when you know your only purpose in life is to finish your mission then die.

FEAR-VNT-005 "Fünf"

- Blind after clawing at her own eyes during a mental break. She doesnt want to die.

- Eine prevented her from tearing her eyes out entirely, and from taking the rest of the Cadre down with her.

- Despite this, she still works with the others, collecting waste to transport it to the dump sites.

- Likes to sing old folk songs.

FEAR-VNT-006 "Sechs"

- The naive and blindly optimistic unit. She fully believes there is hope for her when she returns from the mission, that she will get to live a full life. Eine doesnt have the heart to tell her thats not the case.

- She likes to try and befriend the Vinetan wildlife they find while on missions; be it aquatic or land creatures.

- Timid and introverted much like Eine, but a little more willing to approach others.

- Often the one handling combat, should the need arise. She keeps a pistol on her at all times which she found while exploring with Vier, just incase.

[A Few Days Before Kai’s 13th Birthday]

Avery: Kai, come on. You can’t just run from this. She crosses her arms, standing in front of him as he shoves supplies into a backpack. It sucks, I get it. But we’ve all gotta go through it.

Kai: No, I don’t. He doesn’t even look at her as he zips up the bag, slinging it over his shoulder. I’m not gonna sit there and let them take everything from me. My memories, my friends— his voice hitches for half a second, but he forces it down —I’d rather disappear first.

Finn: Disappear? Dude, what are you even saying? He steps in, his usual easygoing expression replaced with something more serious. You’re just gonna leave us? That’s your plan?

Kai: It’s the only way. His jaw tightens as he shoves past them, heading toward the exit. You’ll all forget me anyway. So what’s the difference?

Avery opens her mouth to argue, but he’s already gone.

[The Day of Kai’s 13th Birthday – He’s Missing]

Lila: Nothing. No one's seen him. She exhales sharply, frustration and worry flickering in her eyes. I checked every place he usually goes. He’s just… gone.

Avery: Yeah, well, running away from decommissioning isn’t exactly easy. She shakes her head, arms crossed tight. He had to have planned this. He probably went off the grid completely.

Finn: …Or underground. His expression shifts as realization hits.

Henry: Yeah. His voice is quiet, but certain. I know where he is.

[Underground Bunker – Henry Finds Kai]

The bunker is well-hidden—too well-hidden. But Henry knows Kai better than anyone. He moves past the obvious hiding spots, through the thick brush, until he finds the barely noticeable metal hatch buried in the dirt. He kneels, knocks once.

Silence.

Then, after a long pause, the hatch creaks open just enough for a pair of wary eyes to peek out.

Kai: …You found me. Despite everything, there’s a small, almost relieved smile tugging at his lips.

Henry: Of course I did. He sits on the edge of the hatch, resting his arms on his knees. You really thought I wouldn’t?

Kai sighs, pushing the hatch open the rest of the way. Inside, it’s surprisingly well-prepared—stocked with food, blankets, even a makeshift cot. He’s been thinking about this for a long time.

Kai: I was gonna bring you guys here, you know. Keep us safe. Keep us together. He looks around like he’s already convinced himself this is their future. No decommissioning. No forgetting. We could stay here, off the radar, forever.

Henry: Kai… He leans forward slightly, watching him carefully. This isn’t the way.

Kai: Why not? His voice cracks, and suddenly, he’s not the calm, confident Kai everyone knows. He looks small. Scared. I don’t want to forget. I don’t want to wake up one day and not know who you are. I don’t want to lose you. Or Avery. Or Finn. Or Lila. I— His breathing is shaky now, his hands curled into fists. I don’t want to be alone.

Henry doesn’t say anything right away. Instead, he reaches out, hooking his pinky around Kai’s—just like they used to when they were kids, back when a pinky promise meant everything.

Henry: You won’t be alone. I promise.

Kai stares at their linked fingers, his shoulders shaking. Then, finally, finally, he lets himself break. His head drops, and he lets out a shuddering breath—half a sob, half a laugh.

Kai: You’re such a loser.

Henry: And you’re an even bigger one for thinking you could run from me.

They sit there for a long time, just holding on, as Kai lets the fear spill out. And for the first time in days, he doesn’t feel like he’s running anymore.

I need to yap about this because the dynamic is gnawing at my brain... Have i ever mentioned that Rin is deathly afraid of Kolibri units?? Poor Storchy doesnt have the best history with them...

It all stems from an incident back in her old facility on Heimat; During an interrogation (after one of her outbursts ended with a few Replika dead), she was uncooperative to say the least.

She'd bite at Starlings and kick at Storches, each attempt to get her to spill why exactly she killed those Replika (she doesnt even know, really. How can she tell somebody something she doesnt know??) only made her more and more on-edge, and angrier. So they had to resort to bioresenant interrogation methods.

Rin was uncooperative with this as well.

The Kolibri at her old facility were much less forgiving than the ones at RCF. They pushed Rin mentally to her breaking point, almost literally melting her brain out of her ears trying to get her to give in.

(Cue her busting out of her restraints, and ripping the head off of the Kolibri + the other Protektors in the room who were there to restrain her. That didnt work out too well huh...)

Ever since then she's uh... not had the best opinion on Kolibris. When it comes to Hüter/Ritter/Bischof (RCF's cadre), she's very tense around them. Holds her tongue and her fists in terror, just praying they wont try to melt her brain like the ones on Heimat almost did.

With Maus its a little different. Maus' behaviour confuses Rin, with how relaxed she is in general and when it comes to enforcing rules around the facility. But the strength of her bioresenance puts her on edge, makes her worry, makes her anxious that (again) the Kolibri is gonna melt her brain either on purpose or without meaning to.

Eventually she gets used to it, and even grows to prefer the buzz in the air whenever she's around Maus, but yeah. Poor Rin is petrified of Kolibris </3

Maus picks up on it pretty easily i think. She's very observant despite spending 90% of her time isolated from others. So she makes an effort to be a bit gentler around Rin (especially if/when she needs to be interrogated.) and to try and stay out of her mind as much as she can. She won't probe as to why exactly Rin is terrified of her, though; she figures 1: Rin will tell her when she's ready and 2: it might just make things worse to force it out of her.

Even if she doesnt say anything about it, Rin really does appreciate what Maus does for her.

There was a public lecture at my work last night about ICECUBE(neutrino experiment at the south pole) and an audience member asked about the carbon footprint of flying drilling equipment and fuel to the south pole to dig a cavern and it was like crickets chirping. No body mention the environmental impact of physics experiments to physicists...they do not take those things into consideration. Environmental concerns about physics experiments? We don't know her...

Bio:

Daughter of an ex-soldier father and a hunter mother, Val was no stranger to the ways of combat and hunting, yet she was also drawn to the healing practices of medics. She is the eldest of six other siblings, all of whom were also trained to fight and hunt as a means of survival.

Val entered the Mandalorian Medical Guild at 12 years of age after passing a series of tests to qualify as a medic in-training. While qualifying was not as difficult, it was the studying, field and hands-on training that required more effort from her and her fellow Mandalorian colleagues. At 19, the final test that would determine only 5% of the candidates to obtain the title of “Doctor”, was enough to make Val nervous yet determined to pass.

In her small group of 10, Val was the only one to pass by one point.

Being a medic was no easy paying job when you travel throughout the galaxy, and despite taking a vow to never harm or take a life, Val found a new means of collecting bounties to pay for necessities, fuel, and ship repairs: putting bounty patients under anesthesia.

But what put Val on the edge of breaking away from her healer vows was the accidental overdosing of a bounty instead of sedating him, yet was paid more for his death. Val took a bit of time to eventually come to terms with what she was capable of doing and began more rigorous studies of different species to concoct certain medical poisons to essentially euthanize bounties.

Val continued this practice for nearly a decade until she had found a bounty worth millions, if not billions of credits: a yellow Zabrakian male with brown tattoos from Dathomir by the name of Savage Opress.

She accepted the bounty and while she did locate the planet he most likely was last scene in, she took a side step to explore an abandoned temple, obviously in awe at the beauty of the place. She made up for her small error when she heard someone approach her from behind.

Val and Savage had a brief quarrel before Val eventually had the upper hand due to her size compared to him and disarmed him. However, she felt something in her that told her not to kill him or turn him in, and offered to allow herself to provide medical care for both him, and his brother Darth Maul.

Val stayed with the Zabrakian brothers up until the very end of Savage’s life; and she was never able to tell Savage she was carrying his child. She was left as a heart broken single mother of their beautiful daughter Mara living on Koboh as the Rambler’s Reach Outpost’s newly appointed sheriff, working with Doma to keep the peace.

How and why capybara? Well, he was obviously nice enough so Freddy remembered him fondly and stuff so why not make him as chill as a capybara? He vibing with everyone before shit went down.
