Just discovered today that they basically don’t have snow days at school anymore, they just hold Zoom classes.
This is a genuine blackpill and I unironically think it’s a sign of our cultural degeneration, more so than any other issue.

And thus a [political] body which is too big for its constitution collapses and perishes, crushed by its own weight.

"The shadowy side of real life is ignored, and Western Christianity provides us with nothing which can be used to interpret it. Thus the young men of the West are unable to deal with the mixture of light and shadow of which life really consists; they have no way of linking the facts of existence to their preconceived notions of absolutes".
- Miguel Serrano.

WAKE UP TO THE REVOLUTION
Decay The West’s preoccupation with material wealth and economic growth is a sign of its moral decadence and spiritual poverty. The recent history of the West is a tale of moral decline, in which those robust virtues needed to build a civilisation have been slowly corrupted by materialism and complacency. Our nations have become geographical areas without purpose where our governing class, in…

“Political, economic and moral bankruptcy…”
History repeating before our eyes. I’m reading a book published in 1939: The Sleepwalkers: A History of Man’s Changing Universe, by Arthur Koestler. This book seems to fall into the realm of these three books: The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, by Edward Gibbon, A Study of History [Abridged], by Arnold J. Toynbee, The Decline of the West, by Oswald Spengler.), but I’m only to page 53 of…

The West is Best
I watched a video last night against my better judgement. You can too if you want to, although I don’t recommend it. It’s called The REAL Reason Europe Took Over the World. It’s just the thing if you’re woke enough to think Howard Zinn was far right and that Lenin was center-right. If that’s you, enjoy, don’t bother comenting because you’ve been so brainwashed that I’m sure you enjoy the green…

I don't particularly like arguing that Europe was at its best when it was called Christendom to get people to convert to Christianity because if God decides not to save the Western Civilization, it doesn't really negate the truth of Christianity. And if God calls people to martyrdom, they may not be able to give up their lives to Christ if they were led to Christianity hoping to preserve an earthly kingdom.
But in the coming weeks, I will be posting a lot of quotes and passages from Thomas E. Woods' How the Catholic Church Built the Western Civilization because I think it's important to understand the mindset of people in the middle ages as they built the western civilization so we can imitate them in trying to rebuild this civilization after the damages done by the Enlightenment.
And I see a lot of pagan white nationalists and alt-right Catholics wanting to defend the Western Civilization with the philosophy of non-Christian writers like Julius Evola, Savitri Devi, René Guénon, Alain de Benoist, Yukio Mishima (and others) but those writers weren't there in the beginning to build the foundation of Western Civilization. I'm not saying they're wrong about everything but the seeds of truth found in their false ideologies ultimately find their completeness in the Catholicism. And why only have one food from the select menu of a cafeteria if you can have the whole buffet? From Catholicism that is.

This know also that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good. Traitors, heady, highminded lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such, turn away

I suggest that this is strawmanning the crab a bit: that "hot war" is not hot for the West in general. No existential issue is involved even for the belligerents (outside of that one week when it looked like Kyiv might fall by coup de main) and I think that which set of corrupt kleptocrats get to wet their beaks in the Donbass is only a "real threat" by a considerable stretch. Sure it's in our interest to enforce the principle that borders Do Not Change By Force, but this is a very diffuse and abstract problem, not at all the sort of visceral conflict that makes people activate their shit-getting-real circuits. As demonstrated by your examples!
You got your hot war in Ukraine, @crustacean-on-main, and so far I think it's been a disaster and a reminder not to wish for war, not to mistake edginess for truth, not to indulge in this level of contrarianism, because war is awful and the imagined salutary effects of war have failed to manifest.
(original post, didn't want to quote that whole long thread)
Like, I recognize the theory that people tell flattering lies and indulge in pleasant fantasy in times of peace, but they get serious when a war starts and suddenly real people have to fire real bullets to stop a real threat. In practice western culture does not appear to have gotten serious and is still telling itself flattering lies.
There's the absolute clown world '''experts''' who have been going RUSSIA IS ABOUT TO COLLAPSE, RUSSIA HAS RUN OUT OF RESERVES, RUSSIA'S INEVITABLE END IS ONLY WEEKS AWAY for two years and somehow not been tarred and feathered and banned from public speaking.
There's Germany shutting down its nuclear plants while dependent on Russian oil and gas to the point where sanctions on Russia had to have an "except for oil and gas" clause, rendering the sanctions mostly a nuisance to civilians, with various lesser stupid shit of the same ineffective civilian-kicking sort like the International Cat Fanciers Foundation refusing to certify Russian cats, or the mustard museum that removed the Russian mustard, or the orchestra that removed Tchaikovsky.
There was the US ambassador to Russia who didn't speak Russian, and the other US ambassador to Russia who was on Twitter being performatively ignorant and clueless about why Russians would support Putin.

At some point, the amount of younger generation heroes in the Justice League gets bigger and bigger every year. It's kind of a bittersweet thing for all the mentors in the League: they are so, so proud of the people their kids and former protegees have grown up to become, but at the same time, it's always a bit hard seeing them grow up.
In any case, they are all a good addition to the League. Many of them have worked together in teams before, and have the whole teamwork-aspect of the League down a lot better than the older members had when they first joined. Batman and Green Arrow especially couldn't seem to contain their pride in their kids, and no one could really blame them for it. After all, both Nightwing and Red Arrow were exceptional fighters with a lot of experience in both teamwork and leadership under their belts, on top of being just really good people. Nightwing and Red Arrow seemed proud of each other as well, after all the hardships they had gotten through during their childhood and early adulthood. One of their oldest and bestest friends, they called each other often, even if the other was not there to hear it.
So it was a bit alarming to see them arguing at the corner of the room in the Watchtower, at least for Hal.
"I was there first!" Nightwing hissed at Red Arrow.
"So what?" Red Arrow hissed back. "This is important to me and you know it!"
"Are they okay?" He quietly asked Wally, who was leaning on the wall. Wally was also their old friend, Hal knew that. He would know if it was something bad.
"Yeah", Wally whispered back. "They just had a run-in with the Red Hood earlier."
The Red Hood? Hal thought that he remembered that name. A Gotham-based Rogue, of that he was pretty sure.
"I guess it didn't go well?"
"I guess not. Nightwing and Red Arrow both had a fight with him recently."
Hal looked at Nightwing and Red Arrow again, who were now hissing something about the other one ruined the whole thing for the other.
"I see." Hal knew how these things went. A rogue or villain wronged you, and you wanted to fight them and bring them to justice by yourself. "Let me guess, both of them wanted to catch the Red Hood, and with the both of them trying to do it, he managed to give both of them the slip?" It happened to even the best of team mates every once in a while.
Wally's face did a series of very rapid expressions, ones that Hal, even with all of his years of dealing with a speedster, could not quite catch.
Still, Hal thought that momentarily, Wally looked like he wanted to laugh.
"Something like that", Wally ended up saying. He definitely sounded like he knew something that Hal didn't.
Hal didn't get the time to ask, because Nightwing and Red Arrow were getting louder with their argument, enough so that Batman and Green Arrow saw it fit to come in and separate the two.
"Can't you two just apologise?" Green Arrow asked.
"I am trying! Nightwing just had to block me with his huge stupid a-"
"Excuse me-!"
Green Arrow and Batman gave each other disturbingly identical tired looks, and that was enough to send Wally laughing, and in the middle of all of it, Hal was trying to decide whether he wanted to know or not.

Say what you will about the racist, fascist, lying, cheating money whore politicians that were in charge when I was growing up, they were at least smart enough not to get caught red handed in a very public fashion most of the time.
Side note: the introduction of the phrase, “this is the new normal”, doesn’t bode well for the future. It’s just going to keep getting worse, and people will foolishly keep accepting it in the vain hope that things will return to the old normal.
