@tealeavesandthorns asked “Why is the plural of moose still moose? Why not meese?”
Train of thought entirely interrupted; it took more than a second for the words to filter through and process properly before Declan was even able to understand what Maria was asking. Eyes glanced towards the woman to see if there was a drink in her hand. Not that she needed to be drinking to ask such a question. It just was one of those out of left field moments. Instead, he watched as she softly pet Eli's head as it remained settled in her lap. The paperwork was set to the side, and he shifted in his seat.
"I actually know this one," he offered with a small laugh. "If you really wanted to know that is, and we are just tossing rhetorical questions out into the open." Declan waited to see what she would say. He had read a bit on the country as a whole prior to the move, and oddly enough, that little tidbit of information had come up and lived buried in his brain since.

1, 12, 33, 45, 48, 57 - for Declan
@tealeavesandthorns
1 Childhood: A young Declan was a fidgeter and a wanderer. Rare was it that the boy sat still, confined to one area. Whether he knew the land or not, he was always up for exploring, seeing just what kind of adventures nature could offer. His parents were of the mindset that unless he was gone for hours which could mean he was hurt, he was smart enough to be on his own and responsible enough to not do anything too outlandish. To them, climbing trees, exploring patches of land, and generally running free was a key part to childhood. There was little crime and the like to worry about on rural Ireland and the same extended to rural Midwest America once they moved. The properties that were owned were far from any neighbors so they hardly had to be concerned with him bothering others. Occasionally, Declan bit off a little more than he could chew, getting stuck in a tree or a little turned around and lost in new areas. But it never deterred him. Those quiet moments where he was learning new land were some of his favorite.
12 School: Declan was an average student. School to him felt more like a chore than work on the farm. Being inside, stuck at a desk, force to learn things that didn't always interest him or had much use in his life was monotonous and boring at best. His mind constantly wandered and teachers noted that he was often stuck daydreaming. It didn't help that as a kid, he was constantly fidgeting and shifting, unable to sit still for more than a few seconds at a time. Book learning was a bit of a struggle since he is far more of a hands on learner, information sticking best when he is able to physically do something. That's not to say that he doesn't enjoy reading, because he certainly can devour novels if given the time and a proper setting. It was just never the best method of learning for him. He just always preferred being on the farm, learning new tasks, being around the animals, and helping his family. College wasn't an option for him, more self proclaimed than any real barrier. He knew he wanted to help run the family farm and eventually his own when the time came. It was only at his parents insistent that he took some business classes to better help manage the farm in the evolving world.
33 Hurt: Physical hurt is something that Declan has no issue dealing with. He is a born and raised country, farm boy. Emotional hurt? It is far more difficult. Declan is a pretty easy going guy and for the most part has had a pretty easy going life. It isn't something he has experienced a whole lot of throughout his life. Perhaps he is simply a really good judge of character. Or perhaps it's the fact that he is just around animals more than people, preferring their company. But when he does experience it, he tends to turn it inwards. Bottled up and kept to himself, he doesn't tend to let others know that he is hurting. What's the point? To him, there is nothing that can be done about it. It is his struggle to move through and get passed. Though he doesn't always do that well. He tends to drink a little more in those sort of times and isolate himself under the guise of work if the hurt is deep. It's only those that know him best that can tell when something is effecting him more than he is letting on. Even those individuals will have a hard time pulling it from him, if they even can at all.
45 Art: While Declan can appreciate art, it isn't something that he dedicates a lot of time or thought to. If anything, his preferred medium is photography. The few pieces he has in his home were either shot on his farm or around his hometown in Ireland. That is in his mudroom, a place that he gets to see it but doesn't end up staring at it too long. If he is asked, he doesn't miss Ireland but there is a little longing to see it once more. The others are various shots of animals and one of the sunset over a set of pastures for the horses. Paintings, sculptures, and the like won't be found in his home. Things are too easily broken and he prefers to spend what money he does have on other things.
48 Scars: No one can work on a farm as long as Declan has without a series of injuries and scars to prove the years of work. For the most part, his hands have been spared a lot of trauma though close inspect slows faint white lines littered across the skin. Cuts that went just a little too deep, a horn that caught the flesh of his palm, and the like. He does have several that are more obvious. There is one spanning the right side of his lower back, from where he got caught between equipment as a child, an injury severe enough it left him in the hospital for two weeks. He has a scar on his right cheek from catching a horn of a goat to the face as a teenager, just missing his eye. The final one is along the tricep of his left arm. It's about two inches long, more upraised than the others. He had a piece of metal stuck in his arm thanks to a car accident.
57 Ocean: Declan has seen the ocean. He flew from Ireland after all but has spent the majority of his life inland. There is little pull to any particularly large body of water, visiting or otherwise. He much prefers significantly smaller bodies of water, like rivers and lakes. Less chance of being on someone's menu. There are things he can not control or account for when it comes to the ocean, and for that reason, it never really fascinated him.

God's Creatures - Review
There is an old stereotype about Irish mammies and their sons. Daughters have to jump through hoops for attention, but the boys can do no wrong. Their halo rarely needs polishing and their dinner plates can never be full enough. What would it take to wipe the scales from a mother’s eyes, to see her son as he truly is? That’s the question at the heart of co-directors Saela Davis and Anna Rose…

"Yeah, yeah. Pizza is fine." He didn't care much what they ate, but something about pizza sounded particularly good. Declan moved about slowly, lifting an occasional object before setting it back down. He wasn't entirely aware of Eli watching him and remaining close before being called away.
It was only when she came back that he was pulled out of his exploration and sea of thoughts. It felt almost uncomfortable, having all these things as proof that so much of his life was missing. Like things he should know, but all the existed was just a blank space. The smell of coffee, though, was at least relaxing, and he happily took the cup before taking a sip. That at least was familiar and she had nailed it spot on.
"Thank you," he murmured before taking another sip. "I'm not even sure I remember much of what they told me, sorry. Everything is kind of fuzzy, and it was a bit of an information overload." There was a little sheepishness to his voice as he made the admission. It was probably a good thing that she had the medications and was clearly responsible enough to have all that figured out.
"We'll order in, I'm sure there's a few places on the fridge we've had before." She said moving to it and looking it over. "Pizza?" She offered. She didn't really feel like chinese and left overs from pizza were always perfect warmed up.
"The doctor gave me your meds." She called to him as he began to explore the place. "You can't have anymore for another hour or so, I'll set an alarm on my phone so we remember." She said before catching herself and the casual nature of the we. She bit down on her lip and turned back to the kettle, taking it off the boil and making them both hot drinks. Coffee for Declan, his favourite type and style and a strawberry tea for her.
"Eli-" Maria called to him. "Let's get you some dinner pup." She said kneeling down and when the dog came running to her she embraced him spoiling him with kisses and scratches. "I'm sorry pup, I wish I could explain or make this easier on you." She whispered into his fur. "Okay, kibble time." She said grabbing his dish.

Chances are you know Tom Hiddleston from his sinister performance as Loki in Marvel’s series of Avengers movies. Or perhaps you know him as the Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe–winning star of The Night Manager. But Tom Hiddleston has long been a star of the stage—an Olivier Award–winning one at that.
Born in London, Hiddleston’s theatrical roles have been exclusive to his native U.K.—until now. He will make his Broadway debut this season with the transfer of Betrayal from the West End. Beginning performances August 14 with an official opening September 5, the Harold Pinter classic tells the story (in reverse chronological order) of spouses Robert (Hiddleston) and Emma (Zawe Ashton) during Emma’s affair with Robert’s friend Jerry (Charlie Cox).
Here are 11 other roles casual fans might not know the gifted actor has played:
1. A Streetcar Named Desire
During his second term at Cambridge, Hiddleston played Mitch in the Tennessee Williams play. After an agent witnessed his performance, Hiddleston applied to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he graduated in 2005.
2. Yorgjin Oxo: The Man
Shortly after graduating, Hiddleston played Yorgjin Oxo in this play by Thomas Crowe at Theatre 503 in London. Called “willfully bizarre” by The Stage’s Alistair Smith, the play follows the story of an innocent boy of the marshlands forced into slavery who eventually grows up to seek revenge.
3. The Changeling
In 2006, Hiddleston played leading role Alsemero in this play from Declan Donnellan’s theatre company, Cheek by Jowl. Beatrice is betrothed to Alonzo but loves Alsemero (naturally, Hiddleston played the dreamy lover), but tragedy ensues when she hires her servant to kill Alonzo.
4. Cymbeline
The following year, Hiddleston earned the Olivier Award for Best Newcomer in a Play for his work in Cymbeline—also a Cheek by Jowl production. The actor took on the roles of Posthumus and Cloten at the Barbican Theatre.
5. Othello
Hiddleston first began working at the Donmar Warehouse in Michael Grandage’s production of the Shakespeare classic. The actor played Cassio opposite Chiwotel Ejiofor and Ewan McGregor. Hiddleston was nominated against himself for Best Newcomer in a Play for his work in this drama, as well.
6. Ivanov
Hiddleston teamed up with Grandage again for this West End revival of Tom Stoppard’s Chekhov adaptation. Part of the Donmar Warehouse season, the play ran at Wyndham’s Theatre with Hiddleston as Eugene Lvov alongside Kenneth Branagh’s titular character. It was this collaboration with Branagh that led to Hiddleston’s audition for the Marvel film Thor, directed by Branagh. Though Hiddleston auditioned for the titular superhero, he was eventually cast as the villainous Loki.
7. The Children’s Monologues
While he was busy working on screen, Hiddleston made time to exercise his stage chops for worthy causes. In 2010, he performed as part of Dramatic Needs’ The Children’s Monologues. The organization adapts real stories by South African children into monologues that are then interpreted by world-class actors in order to raise funds and awareness.
8. Coriolanus
Though Hiddleston spent years playing Loki, he still made time for the stage. He played the title character in the Donmar Warehouse production of Coriolanus, directed by Josie Rourke. The play ran for a limited engagement, but was broadcast internationally January 30, 2014. The role won Hiddleston the Evening Standard Award for Best Actor.
9. Hamlet
After playing Loki in The Avengers series, filming Kong: Skull Island, and starring in the mini-series The Night Manager, in 2017 Hiddleston reunited with Branagh to play Shakespeare’s Danish prince.

@tealeavesandthorns asked [ storm ] caught in the midst of a torrential downpour, sender can't help but close the distance and kiss receiver in the rain
Talks had been happening for days. The impending doom it was supposed to be had been the only thing that people had talked about in that time. Declan knew it was smarter to be prepared rather than caught off guard just in case it was as bad as they were anticipating. With all of the animals, it just wasn't a choice that he was really willing to take. Better safe than sorry. What he hadn't anticipated was Maria offering to help get everything battened down and storm ready.
It always happened. Everything was set, ready to go, and something happened. The rumbling of thunder overhead had started a few hours ago, with the ominous darkening of the sky continuous since. All until the skies opened up. Declan had just finished all the morning chores when it happened. The problem? The llamas spooked and managed to get out, breaking down one of the gates that had kept them in the barn. With the storm worsening, Declan wasn't willing to let them just waiting it out in the elements. Not when the risk of injury was too great.
Conditions only worsened, the wind whipping around violent and rain pouring as if someone had pissed off the gods. Declan could barely see five feet in front of him as he managed to grab the last of the animals and worked on trying to get him back to the barn. He was soaked to the bone, had just managed to avoid falling branches, and was almost a little concerned about making it back to the house. Once he had the creature inside, he glanced outside and knew it was better to brave it than wait it out. Maria had to be worried by now.
All that flew from his mind when the familiar body came crashing into his own. What the hell was she doing out here? The question couldn't come though as instead, her lips were pressed to his. An arm unconsciously wrapped around her waist keeping her close.
"What are you doing out here?" He had to shout to even hear himself at this point. Lightning flashed across the sky and he knew it wasn't smart for them to remain outside.

"what are you doing out of bed?" "for the love of god, i need to pee." - Maria and Declan :)
Sick fic prompts: @tealeavesandthorns
Declan was stubborn. A fact that could hardly be disputed or denied. Most of the time, it was a good thing, or at least semi positive trait. It shaped his hard working nature, drove him to make sure others were taken care of, and kept him moving no matter what was thrown at him. In the rare instances that he was sick, however, it ended up being a far more detrimental personality trait.
Just as it had been yesterday. As typical, Declan had ignored the body aches that had set in. Not that he could really be blamed for it. He was getting older. He wasn't a stranger to the idea and refused to deny it. Things hurt, especially after long days. It wasn't like he was in his twenties anymore. His body took a little time to bounce back. Though these were different. Cramping, spasming waves of pain that hit both muscle and joint. And they were only the start.
Maria had been asleep when he had woken up. Something not all that uncommon, but he was still thankful as he moved with some stiffness to the kitchen. A cup of tea instead of coffee was made, a weak attempt to help ease the burning that was constricting his throat.
Despite those warning signs that maybe he needed to take the day to relax, he dressed up for the cold and headed out. Declan hadn't realized how dizzy he felt or how sluggish his movements were as he tossed bales of hay, focused on a fixed point to keep himself standing and moving. The problem had come when he finished up and needed to move. One misstep was all it had taken. His boot caught the edge of the wood, and he was sent tumbling off of the truck, landing awkwardly with the sort of crack that didn't indicate anything good. It took a second for the pain to register, all of the air knocked out of him and his head spinning worse from the fall.
Thank God for Eli.
One trip to the hospital later, his left arm was in a cast past his elbow, he was given meds for whatever illness he had going on, and careful instructions not to work. Yeah, right. Not work? How the hell would the farm take care of itself?
All it had taken was one look from Maria, though, and Declan knew that he wouldn't be leaving the house. Rarely had he seen her so upset or angry, but that look pinned him to his spot. In no uncertain terms, she had laid it out that he was on bedrest, not to move until his fever had passed and he wasn't swaying on his feet anymore. She would find someone to take care of the farm while he was out of commission. Left with little to no room for arguments, Declan was forced to admit defeat and listen to the rules she had laid out.
He had slept hard for the first few hours, conking out without realizing it. His body needed the rest, and it was rare that he ever allowed it. When he had laid down, freshly out of a shower that required more effort than it should, he had gotten half dressed before sleep overtook, leaving him in only a pair of flannel pajama bottoms. He was so deeply sleep that he didn't notice Maria coming to check on him a few times, or Eli hopping on the edge of the bed to do the same.
He woke to a warm cup of tea and some soup. All of which he downed without thought but some difficulty before falling asleep again.
It wasn't until the third time that he woke that Declan had to get up. The room spun but far less violently than it had before, leaving him inching to his feet slowly. Careful calculated movements kept the dizziness from getting too overwhelming. He had to move, though, and he had to get to the bathroom.
His good arm outstretched to brace his hand against the wall, Declan inched towards the bathroom.
"What are you doing out of bed?" Her soft but stern voice nearly echoed in his ears. Declan paused, leaning against the wall in order to remain upright. He was unsure if it was better with his eyes opened or closed. "Come on, we need to get you back to bed. You aren't well enough to be up." He felt the gentle touch at his elbow as if to guide him back to bed. He remained where he stood.
"Declan, come on."
"For the love of god, I need to pee." He managed to mumble the words out, and the response he heard sounded far more like stifled laughter than he wanted to acknowledge.
"All right, come on. Easy does it," she offered as she helped to keep him steady from his other side. Once he was over this whole thing, he would surely feel embarrassed about needing aide to get to the bathroom. For now, he was grateful that the floor wasn't rushing up to meet him.

Declan was certainly his name, his eyes glancing up at the woman as she came wandering into his room with a familiarity that had to mean something. For the life of him, though, he had no idea who she was. Or who Eli was for that mattered. He tried to plaster on polite smile, though it far from hit its mark. There was a shakiness there that relayed the concern that he was feeling.
The nurses had said someone would be here to take him home. Someone he was supposed to know. He ran a hand down his face before rubbing at the scruff along his jaw line. A telltale give away that he didn't realize she knew.
"Yeah, uh, okay." He nodded. If the hospital was releasing him to her, that had mean something. Right? God, he hoped so. He carefully pushed out of the bed, a little wobbly, but stayed on his feet. How was he supposed to ask who the hell she was? It would have made it incredibly awkward.
[AMNESIA] + REVERSE - Declan & Maria
𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐋𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐒 (a collection of very indulgent tropes I love! Feel free to elaborate and add context when sending one of the prompts.) [AMNESIA] a starter where my muse has lost all of their memories and doesn't remember your muse (+ REVERSE to reverse) @dxrknessexplored
"Declan." Maria said softly as she came around into the hospital room. She'd been told there was memory loss but how severe it might be she had no idea. All she'd known was the doctors had called her because she was the last contact in his phone and from what they could probably tell, closest.
Gotham General doctors were rushed off their feet so Maria couldn't exactly fault them for not doing more due diligence. They just wanted the room and given that Declan's other injuries were minor, she could hardly argue when they desperately needed the room.
"I brought some pastries, I thought you might be hungry. Some coffee for the road too. They wouldn't let me bring Eli in but he's in my car waiting patiently."
