Back in my day, we had to go to a dedicated place and put quarters into a giant machine in order to play video games! No, seriously! A few years back I was able to preserve a piece of one of the best arcade machines by building it into this crazy light box. I used reclaimed pine clad with hardwood sticks from my yard to get the look. I'll be doing more retro game themed build this coming Saturday for charity. Every once in a while, when I'm up to neck in client work and I'm on the road most of the day, I like to make one of these assemblage cabinets out of vintage soda crates in my "spare" time. For this very old and worn one, I took the internal grid that holds the bottles and reworked it into a door to keep its character and history intact. #Fbf for one of my favorite light fixtures I ever made. I found this broken steering wheel at the @beaconflea market and knew exactly what it had to become. A minute of negotiating and $6 later, I was on my way to this. It sold almost immediately to a friend with impeccable taste. the Dead Edge Hanging Light is complete! Recently, an abandoned, 19th century factory here in Beacon was renovated and converted into @hudsonvalleybrewery. The building had huge weathered holes from the roof all the way to the basement and this lamp is made from the exposed edges of the old, pine subflooring around one such hole. Shaped by decades of weather, vagrancy, neglect, and decay left them with an unmistakeable beauty which most would cut away and toss in the trash. I chose to highlight the intricate pulchritude with this design instead. My take on the "Rustic Farmhouse Coffee Table." The way I see it, if you're going to build a 100-year-old design, why not make it look 100 years old? Even better since I got to use 100-year-old wood! This table was an exercise in accentuating the "flaws" of the material and show craftsman's hand to add some much needed interest and detail to the design.
