What if there was a murder mystery novel, where like a clarinettist/saxophonist/whatever is murdered because someone put poison on their reed(s), and when they lick the reed and perish in a most dramatic fashion, they are then locked in their practice room/hall and every member of the band is a suspect.
I think it would be rather cool book

leslie feinberg uses the term "he-she" to describe hirself through this section of the book and discusses taking hormones with the other butches at multiple points throughout. at the time, "butch" included everything from masc lesbians to he/him lesbians to outright trans men.
events quickly progress from calling butches and femmes brainwashed to kicking butches out of meetings and bars for being gender traitors. hir decision to start HRT was so controversial in separatist lesbian circles that it ended zir long-term relationship.
Tumblr media
this was the impact of a separatist feminist movement on queer icon leslie feinberg, who suffered immensely from the hostility of the queer community toward zirself and the ensuing isolation and lack of community support. because denying queer people access to their community is a death sentence. zie went on to write stone butch blues about this oft-ignored and maligned branch of the queer family.
we know that transandrophobia exists. one of the most important landmark queer texts discusses it extensively. we know that separatist rhetoric harms every single member of the queer community with a connection to masculinity (A LOT OF US). we have been on this merry-go-round before, and we already know it sucks. let's not go around again. let's get off

Christmas Comfort - Law x Reader
Wrote this blurb on a whim, I'm feeling hyped up for Christmas! Featuring a scroogey Law. It's barely been proofread, I'll probably continue editing it as per usual.
CW: Small trauma mention. GN reader. SFW!
~1.6k words
----
The Heart Pirates weren't exactly known for being festive. The ship was typically viewed as cold, medical, sterile. Steel, rounded walls would almost become hypnotic to anyone pulling the late shifts, and it was a common occurrence for people to gasp for air whenever the ship would surface. Life was hard, methodical, strict, but the bond among the crew and the sense of duty they shared was the thread that held them together. There was real love there, even if the ship itself seemed like a death-clad tank piloting through the deepest layers of the ocean.
It never seemed to bother anyone on a day-to-day basis, but as the holidays rolled around, the energy between crewmates would always get increasingly restless. As December crept closer, Christmas merriment began to spread through the ship in hushed whispers and secret gift exchanges, nobody willing to incur the sneers of their captain urging them to get back to work. That is, until he gave the all-clear to Bepo that the crew could decorate the walls of the Polar Tang.
It was almost immediate - an overnight transformation into an underwater Winter Wonderland. Tinsel and bows hung along bolts and lined portholes, carefully strewn about by the joined efforts of Shachi and Penguin. At Port, somebody even had the great idea of dragging in a Christmas tree, which was decorated with homemade ornaments and old medical equipment that was no longer viable. Bepo directed crewmates to string lights along the inside of the galley, and it was already beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Eggnog became a nightly offering with dinner, and all seemed merry for the season.
It was now Christmas Eve. The stockings have been hung, the ship smells of pie and cinnamon, yet Law remains locked up in his own little world going over paperwork and research. As per usual.
“You're such a grump, you know that?” You sigh, leaning against the doorframe of Law's office.
“Is that all you came here to tell me?” He responds curtly, his eyes never leaving the medical texts he was always engrossed in.
“No. I also came to bring you some hot chocolate Ikkaku made. Since you don't want to take a break, though…” You say with a tone full of tempting mirth.
Law glances up only briefly to see the mug held casually between your hand and your hip. Damn. How did he miss that? The interest only lasts a moment, though, before his eyes look back at the textbook in front of him.
“Can't. Too busy.” He says simply, before adding a quick, “You can leave it, though.”
“Nu-uh. Christmas grumps don't get any hot cocoa.”
Without any other warning or indication, Law's hand lifts into the air, his fingers moving in that familiar way that makes your frustration flare up.
“Don't-”
“Room. Shambles.”
In the blink of an eye, the ceramic mug in your hand is swapped with some kind of paperweight from Law's desk, heavy and edged. The mug, still steaming and otherwise undisturbed, now sits beside Law, though he doesn't bother looking up to check. He doesn't have to.
“Really?”
He shrugs nonchalantly, picking up a pen to mark a specific section of the page he reads. With a groan, you toss the paperweight to the floor, crossing your arms over your chest.
“Law-”
“If that's all, I'll see you when I'm finished.” He responds, his tone bored and otherwise disengaged.
There's a pause between you two, the only sound being the far-off cheers of the Heart Pirate crew singing carols and the sound of the Polar Tang's engine.
“You can't be serious.” You say, your tone barely containing the edge of hurt and frustration. “It's Christmas Eve. There aren't any patients in the unit and everyone else is celebrating. There's no way you'd rather be alone.”
Law doesn't respond, though his eyes are no longer scanning any text. He's got that familiar glaze over his eyes that you've come to know all too well. It's as if he's trying to come up with some sort of explanation or response, a clear attempt to carefully curate his words. Law isn't one to sugarcoat how he feels. You prepare yourself for whatever lecture you might get from him, ignoring the tugging concern that's growing in your gut.
With a sigh, Law pushes himself back from his desk, leaning back in his chair. A hand runs through his hair methodically, fingers shoving tufts that have been left over from his trusty hat. Finally, gold eyes peek up to meet yours. There's something noticeably off about them this time - the bags under his eyes are darker and the glint in them appears dull.
“I don't…do well around Christmas.” He murmurs, eyes quickly averting down to the floor. “So don't take it personally.”
Watching him closely, you try to decipher exactly what could be plaguing him. There are plenty of reasons why he might not be doing well. You’ve spent countless nights retreading shared trauma, hearing about his family in Flevance and his time in the Donquixote family. It’s the most intimate Law can be, sharing the smallest glimpses into the nightmares that still seem to permeate in his head. Christmas, though…you’ve never been aboard the ship before during Christmas. This is entirely untreaded territory. You take a few careful steps into the room, closing the door behind you. Mustering your courage, you look at your boyfriend with empathetic eyes, taking a deep breath to ask the question.
“How come?”
Law looks at you with that same, tired gaze, though there’s the slightest hint of his face falling at your question. A reluctance to answer. He doesn’t look away from you, though, and for a moment you think he almost looks grateful that you’ve actually pried a bit further.
“It just brings back memories I'd rather not think about.” Law answers simply, his voice just a little quieter than before.
You’re not sure what he could mean - surely he’s celebrated holidays since losing his family. You look at Law for several moments, debating in your head the best way to approach this. Finally, there’s a compromise made in your mind.
“What if we made some new memories?”
Law’s eyes flash with surprise at your question. He was clearly expecting a series of invasive questions, prodding into what exactly has him down. Looking down, he lets out a long sigh and closes his eyes briefly.
“Y/N-ya--” He starts.
“I know it's not that simple.” You interject quickly. You have to try to get a word in before Law completely shoots down the idea. “I know I can't erase what you've been through or fix it, and I don't want to. It's all a part of who you are. I just…don't want you to be alone. You have a family. We all want you to have a good holiday.”
Another pause. He seems so thoughtful, so lost in trying to figure out what to say. It’s almost heartbreaking. Taking another step forward, you let out a small sigh of your own. It’s at least worth a try to make sure he doesn’t isolate himself.
“How about this - you come out into the galley for, say, ten minutes. Watch the gift exchange, drink some cocoa. Spend time with your crew who loves you. Then, if you're really still not feeling it, I'll come back here with you and we can just hang out. Read or something. No expectations.” You offer, your voice soft and gentle.
The tender gesture surprises Law again. He looks over at you again, straightening in his chair. His face is as enigmatic as usual, though the corners of his lips turn up slightly at your gesture. It’s subtle, but present.
“You don't have to do that for me. If you'd rather be with the crew-”
“Law, I'm not leaving you by yourself. I want to be with you on Christmas, even if it just feels like a regular day. Just…spend time with me. I'll make it worth your while.” You offer again, this time taking another small step forward. “You can say no.”
Law seems lost. For a brief moment, he looks back at his desk and the pile of paperwork. His eyes land on the text he was marking up. It’s quiet for long enough that you almost think you’re being dismissed until-
“Okay.”
You blink as he reaches for his hat, placing it atop his head. He makes his way around his desk, and you can’t stop the smile that rises to your lips.
“Okay, then. Let’s go.” You say softly, holding out your hand for him to take.
And so, the rest of the evening is spent in joyful festivities and good company. Law stays for much longer than ten minutes, enjoying the eggnog and the shenanigans of his crew. Gift exchange kicks off with Bepo entering the galley in a Santa suit, easily Law’s favorite moment of the night. When the last of the carols are sung and presents are given out, you walk out of the galley together, fingers interlocked. You feel a gentle tug on your hand as you’re about to cross the threshold and when you look back, Law gestures vaguely with his eyes up to the mistletoe hung in the doorway. Giving a mirthful smile, you lean forward and press your lips tenderly against his. It’s soft, a caress full of love as your lips move in sync. As they part, Law opens his eyes, gratitude and affection evident in them. He pecks your lips one more time before mumbling a gentle,
“Merry Christmas.”

“Ow, shit!”
The shrill voices of stupid students rang through the grassy expanse of the park, creating an echo of obnoxiously happy losers. By now, you were certain Toge and Yuji had given themselves concussions. Yuji somehow got the bright idea to spin the merry-go-round at full speed and attempt to jump off. Toge had (unsurprisingly) jumped on the opportunity to participate, resulting in both of them lying on the ground like squashed bugs (and probably lacking the brain cells to be considered much more anyway).
You’d expected them to get along, but this was more than you’d anticipated. This was a good thing, of course, but you could feel their stupidity seeping into you from all edges the more their laughter circled through the air. It was captivating, the moment. It was as if it was only you, your big group of people who were too free for their own good, and the blur of colours that was the bright metal of the playground. The sun had began to set, the streetlights reflecting from every surface, every direction surrounding you.
You were breathing heavily, gasps of air falling from your lips. Considering you’d spent the past hour constantly evading death by arrogance, you had to admit that you were somewhat tuckered out. Though your moment of peace was interrupted, a childish whine cutting through the air and catching your attention. “[name], help!” Nobara fussed, lazily reaching for you as she was dragged to the swingset by an overly happy Yuji. He seemed to be in his element, as odd as that felt saying.
You grinned, shaking your head. She let out a gasp of feigned shock, crying out dramatically. “You’re such a traitor!” You could only laugh, shoving your hands into the shallow pockets of your pants. You were left alone now, the bustling group of people –that being everyone except for Yuta, Maki, and Megumi– moving from one place to the next. You twiddled with the lint within the fabric of your pockets, hoping the small action would at help with the cold, placebo or not. Winter was creeping in, rigid and frosty, freezing the tips of your fingers and leaving nothing but stiff nubs in their place. You should’ve worn a coat, or something thicker than the thin, hoodless sweater you were wrapped in now. A shiver crawled over your skin, a cold gust of air blowing past you.
“Are you cold?” Yuta asked from behind you, making you startle a bit. He’d always been somewhat an observer, something that was both a blessing and a curse. You shrugged, though the goosebumps rising beneath your sleeves spoke louder. “A bit,” you responded, knowing there wasn’t much of a point in denying it. It wasn’t like he could help much, anyway, he’d not worn a coat himself.
“You should try moving around, it helps,” he smiled, his tired eyes shining with warmth. You nodded, offering a smile back, a breath leaving your nose. And then he went back to his conversation with Maki, that shine in his eyes seeming to brighten the moment he turned back at her. All doughy and sweet.
You turned away, feeling as if you were interrupting something. You glanced around, taking in everything around you and what you could do. Your eyes landed on a bench nearby, one of few in the area. That would be nice, a place to sit and breathe for a moment. One problem, though. One of the spaces was occupied by a dark figure, one you’d grown to recognize all too well. It wouldn’t be weird for you to sit, would it? Ah, fuck it. You’d never been one to care much for what was “weird”, what about this was different?
It was only a few short strides over to the little structure, the soft click of your shoes against the concrete just barely sounding through the area. There was a soft noise as you sat down, one that alerted the boy next to you of your presence. He glanced up, the swirling sea that was his eyes meeting yours. It was silent for a moment, though it didn’t seem out of place. More like words didn’t need to be said, not now.
“You aren’t one for the playground?” you asked, the corners of your mouth upturning into a soft smirk.
“Not necessarily,” he replied, something akin to a chuckle leaving his lips. The two of you glanced back at everyone else, both the duo that had broken off and the group of idiots, a clump of people that was larger in mass. The day was growing darker, undeniably so, but the light of their spirits did much more to brighten the place than the days light. Perhaps the sun itself even quivered as it gazed upon the way they illuminated the space.
In the peaceful solitude of his presence, you couldn’t help but be reminded of the time when it was just you and Megumi. Freshly teenagers, on the rare occasion you’d hang out (not including what might as well have been nurse training), you’d often find yourselves at the park near your houses. You’d make a stop at the convenience store nearby, pick up a drink or something to snack on, of which he’d silently insist he paid for. Sometimes, he’d actually end up smacking your hands away from the register. A gentleman, pride, or just daddy’s money? A mystery you’ve yet to solve, even years later.
After your run to the store, the two of you would walk down the street, being met with the somewhat grassy plains that blanketed the ground. You’d have small conversations about anything and everything, and oddly, it was one of few times you saw him that he wasn’t so guarded. Didn’t constantly act like he was ready to defend himself, if the need came. He was docile, almost. Not like a dog, but a loyal wolf, one that bared its teeth at all but one.
You’d always stop to feed the ducks. It became ritual. So you’d feed them your bread and smile as they took the offering, that sliver of unity turning into light in the depths of your irises, and you’d always miss the way his eyes reflected it as he watched you. Sure, he didn’t mind the ducks. They were cute, even. But the domestic joy of them as they fed had nothing on you. If only you’d ever known.
Snapping out of your little daze, you glanced back at him. As he caught your eye for that split second before he looked away, you saw a glimpse of the past within his. It was almost as if he was remembering, too.
“I’m gonna go for a walk,” he said casually, pushing himself from the bench and onto his feet. Your eyes trailed after him, after every movement of his body as he extended to his full height. You let a hum vibrate in your throat, not knowing much else to respond with.
He took a few steps forward, then just barely glanced back at you over his shoulder. “You coming?”
Your head turned up to him, and it took you a moment to process his words. It was a simple question, really, you didn’t know what had you short circuiting. With a furrow of your brow and a hurried nod, you stood. “Yeah, yeah sure.”
-
The walk wasn’t all that eventful, but it was enough. Enough for the two of you, at least. You could appreciate the peace. You even passed by the duck pond, and though empty, it was a little something that made a familiar smile tug at your lips. Something that made his eyes land on you, made your surroundings flicker with what seemed to be the familiarity of the moment. Of each other.
You glanced back at him, hearing the sound of a zipper and the soft rub of fabric on itself. You were met with the sight of a heap of black material being held out to you. You looked up at him questioningly, tilting your head to the side.
“You told Yuta you were cold.”
You blinked up at him for a moment, recalling that yes, indeed you’d told Yuta that. He’d been listening? Wow, quite the attentive one he was. Hesitantly, you took it from him, pushing your arms through the sleeves as you wrapped his jacket around you. “Thank you,” you said softly, a smile returning to your face. He just nodded, humming as you once again fell into step beside each other.
The figures of your friends grew closer in the dark of the approaching night, their faces all turning in your direction as the echo of your swift steps reached their senses. You were pulled from your conversation, the voices of your friends far too frantic for the moment, in your opinion. Or at least the voice of Yuji.
“Where were you?” Maki asked calmly, a contrast to the other vocals piercing through your ears. “Isn’t it obvious?” Toge began with a grin. “She was-“ he said, followed by a pathetic string of muffled words as Yuta slapped a hand over his mouth.
“I thought you died,” Yuji gasped, placing a hand on his forehead. You and Megumi shared a look, as if to say many things that couldn’t be voiced. You rolled your eyes, though amusement painted across your lips as you took in his dramatics. He was funny, at least he was that much.
Maki sighed, though her annoyance was obviously not pure. She shook her head at the antics of the others, nodding to you. “We’re gonna get going.” Ah, that was right. You’d driven together. You nodded, looking back to Megumi who had fallen a few steps behind you.
“Well, okay. Bye, Fushiguro,” you said. Something in his jaw ticked, and you could almost see the thoughts in his eyes. “What?” you said softly, so that it was only between the two of you.
“That’s not my name,” he said, a concealed bitterness behind his nonchalant tone. You’d always called him Megumi when you were younger, but that felt oddly casual now. Especially since his own best friends referred to him by his last name.
You let out a breath, a mix of a laugh and a sigh. “Sorry. Bye, Megumi,” you said. And with a small wave, you left. You almost caught the way satisfaction washed over him, the way it blanketed him as he began to feel something warm residing in his chest.
It wasn’t until you’d settled in the leather of Maki’s passenger seat that you remembered his jacket. Oh well, you’d just have to meet with him again to return it.

When you left for university three years ago you never wanted to return home, the small town always made you feel claustrophobic. But now you’re sitting on a train, about an hour away from your childhood, the sony walkman you got as a graduation present from high school sat in your lap as you listened to the same nirvana cassette on repeat.
The nerves of being home began to get to you as the familiar views of the old trailer park that sat outside your town came into view. An old pickup truck that adorns the same white and blue paint of your best friend's truck drives down the road that travels along the train tracks and it makes you wonder if it’s him coming to meet you at the station.
“We’ll be arriving at the station within the next five minutes.” The worker smiled at you as she continued down the aisle of seats to tell the other patrons of the cart that the train will be stopping for a couple minutes at your stop before embarking to the next station.
You put your walkman in your pocket so that you aren’t scrambling to gather your things when the train stops. Just as you got your backpack situated the train jolted a little as its breaks screech to a stop.
“Ladies and gentlemen we have reached our next stop.” The worker's voice is drowned out by your music as you stand up and grab your suitcase before hopping out the door with the worker's help in lifting your bag down.
“Thank you!” You call out and wave as the door closes and the train takes off again, no one else got on or off.
“Y/N!” You hear a familiar voice call from behind you, the roar of a diesel engine brings a certain comfort to you that you haven’t felt since you left.
“Gyu!” You call out with a smile on your face, the change in his appearance being more shocking in person than you thought it would be, having only seen him in pictures he sent from the crappy disposable cameras he and his friends like to use. All the work he’s been doing on his family's ranch has paid off as his muscles glisten with dirt and sweat.
“I’ve missed you cherry pop.” He hugs you tightly as you laugh at the nickname he gave you years ago because you always had cherry lollipops on you.
“I’ve.. missed you too.” You choke between laughs and the way he was squeezing you a little too tightly.
“Sorry,” He laughs as he lets you go to grab your suitcase instead. “Are you hungry? It was a long travel day for you.”
“I could eat.” You smile as you take your headphones off to let them rest around your neck as you follow your best friend to his truck that was still running and emitting a gross smell of diesel.
“Great, let’s go to pops diner.” He lifts your suitcase over the side of the truck bed like it was nothing before he opens the door for you to get in. The leather of his seats were warm from his heater that left the cabin toasty unlike the train car you had been sitting in almost all day.
“How are you?” You ask about the owner of the diner who was well into his 70’s at this point, his restaurant having been open for almost five decades at this point.
“He’s doing good, got his hip replaced last summer,” Mingyu shifts the car into drive after he reversed out of the spot he parked at. “Still kickin, Cheols mom still works there too.” The mention of your old childhood playmate makes you smile bittersweetly. The last time you two had talked was before you left for college and he seemed angry about everything in life and he took it out on you leaving a sour taste in your mouth and the lack of communication between the two of you over the past few years.
“That’s nice, how is she doing? I remember last you told me she was in the hospital for something.” Mingyu sighs a little from beside you.
“Yeah she was, took me forever to get anything out of Cheol about it but she’s doing good now. Or so I’ve been told.” Seungcheol had always been hard headed and he’d rather talk about other people's problems than his own so it didn’t surprise you that Mingyu had to dig for some type of answer from him.
“Is she working today? I’d love to see her…” Your voice trailed off as you thought about the lady’s son, who you desperately wanted to see as well but how you left things made you hesitant.
“Not today, she’s off for the weekend.” You nod, mumbling that it’s nice that she takes the weekend for herself.
“I know you and Cheol had some blowout when you left but I’m going to see him later after I drop you off, if you wanna come with you’re more than welcome too.”
“What’re you two doing?” Mingyu was surprised you didn’t immediately shoot down his offer, he thought it would take more convincing.
“We’re going to the river for a bonfire with Jeonghan and Wonwoo.”
“They’re home too?” They had both left for college around the same time you had.
“Yeah, they come home every break they can.. Unlike someone I know.” He laughs lightheartedly. You huff quietly, unsure of how to respond. How do you respond anyways? You never wanted to come back, memories weighed heavy on your heart and the only thing keeping you to your hometown was the friends that resided in it.
“Hey,” Mingyu's voice softens. “I get it, you got out when you saw the chance and I’m proud of you.”
“Thank you.” Your voice was just as soft as you watched the familiar scenery zip by. A nice silence fell between the two of you as he focused on driving, the train station sitting a couple miles out from the town you used to live in.
“The bank sold the house by the way.” Mingyu broke the silence, a nervous sweat settled on his forehead as he broke the news to you.
“About time.” You sigh, another weight you didn’t realize you were holding lifted off your shoulders. “Less for me to deal with now.”
“You’re not upset?” Mingyu looks at you out of the corner of his eye.
“No,” You sit up straighter and begin picking at the hem of your jacket. “My father was a drunk with thousands of dollars of debt he owed the bank so I’m not even surprised they sold it to make back what they lost and then some I’m sure.”
“At least an actual family bought it instead of some corporation.” Mingyu tried to lighten the mood. “They just moved in and they have a newborn and a cute dog that I think you’d like.”
“What kind of dog is it?” You side eye Mingyu, appreciative of the fact he moved on from the sensitive topic so quickly.
“A corgi, they said it’s a black tricolor… Whatever that means.”
“It’s the fur color, it’s mainly black with a little bit of brown and white?”
“Yes! See this is why you went to college, you’re smart as hell.” You shake your head with a smile on your face.
“You’re smart too, Gyu, and not going to college doesn’t affect that.” He shrugs as he slows his speed down after approaching the edge of town.
“If you say so cherry pop.” Just as he pulled up to the first stoplight the roar of a loud engine could be heard from a distance.
“I bet that’s Cheol.” You look at Mingyu confused before your question gets lost once you see the helmet less Seungcheol sped by on a motorcycle you had never seen before, his once dark hair was bleached blonde.
“That’s Cheol?” You asked as you watched him disappear down the opposite street you and Mingyu turned down.
“Yeah, he changed quite a bit since you left.” That was an understatement as Seungcheol looked as big as Mingyu, maybe bigger if you dared to think.
“I can see that, can’t believe he bleached his hair.”
“He did that pretty recently actually, said he needed a change and decided the worst that could happen is his hair would fall out.”
“He’d look good with a buzz cut.” Mingyu laughs at the thought causing you to laugh too.
“You should tell him that tonight when we hang out, I guarantee he’ll either blow a gasket or take you seriously and actually cut his hair off.”
“He would drown me in the river first before he’d listen to me.”
“I don’t know cherry pop, you were very influential to him for a long time. Remember how he did your bidding all throughout elementary school?”
“Yeah cause I tossed him off the merry-go-round at recess and he decided he was scared of me until junior high.”
“I think we were all scared of you after that,” Mingyu puts the car in park after pulling up to the diner. “The older kids wouldn’t mess with me either because you scared them too.” The fact Mingyu is younger than you by two years makes you question reality as he’s much bigger then you now and has been since junior high.
“Still wild to think about.” You laugh as Mingyu hops out the truck to run over and open the door for you, he’s never allowed you to open your own door since he started driving.
“Oh, I guess Cheol’s mom is working today.” Mingyu closes the door behind you and puts the key in the handle to lock it as he stares at the familiar woman through the window that was taking someone’s order. “Someone must’ve called out of work today.”
The two of you walk to the front door together, making small talk about anything and everything. Seungcheol’s mother greeted the two of you with a smile and handed you two menus once you sat down.
“It’s good to see you sweetheart.” She smiles widely at you, she was always like a second mother to you growing up especially after you mothers untimely passing.
“It’s good to see you too, you look great.” You smile warmly, despite any animosity you might feel for her son right now you will never be able to hate this woman.
“I’ll start you two off with some water?” You both nod, prompting her to walk away.
“So how’s the ranch?” You scan the menu, already knowing what you want but wanting to check to see if anything new was added.
“It’s good, Cheol doesn’t work there anymore.” Mingyu doesn’t look up from his menu to see your surprised expression. “Mr. Johnson offered him a job as a mechanic after seeing the work he would do on the farm equipment.”
“Mechanics suit him.” You smile at his mother when she comes back with your waters.
“Do you two know what you want?” You both nod, letting Mingyu order first despite the look he gave you after you shrug and take a big gulp of your water. “Are you getting your usual sweetheart?” She turns to you.
“How do you remember what I used to order?” Your eyes widen.
“You’d order the same thing almost every time you’d come here since you were a kid and I’ve been working here longer than you’ve been alive so I have it practically engraved into my memory.” She laughs quietly as she takes your menus. “You and my son are the same in your consistency in ordering the same thing.”
“Oh.” You could feel your face heating up at the thought. You’re happy she didn’t bother to push a conversation as she went to help more people that came in.
“You and Cheol are as opposite as opposite can be.”
“You don’t say.” You roll your eyes playfully.
The banter between you and Mingyu continued on, even after your food came you both found something to poke — and trust me there was a lot to poke at that has happened over the past three years that couldn’t be conveyed over letters and the occasional call here and there.
“We should head out now, get you to the ranch so you can clean up and rest before tonight.” Mingyu paid for your guy's food like the gentleman he is and held the door open for you as you walked out into the warm summer air.
“Am I obligated to go swimming tonight?” Mingyu shakes his head.
“You’re not but we’ll all be swimming so,” He hops into the truck after opening the door for you. “Just to be safe you might wanna wear your swimsuit.”
“Got it.” You nod your head before watching out the window again, committing your old hometown to memory again. The drive to the ranch was peaceful and long, sitting a few miles out of town on the opposite side of where the diner was.
Once you got to Mingyu's house and greeted his family and caught up, you went to the spare room upstairs to unload your bags and lay on the bed to unwind. A quick nap was sure to help the oncoming headache you got so after changing your clothes to be a little more comfortable you crawl under the freshly cleaned blanket and almost instantly knock out.
A couple hours pass by before Mingyu is knocking on the door to wake you up, telling you the guys are heading to the river now and that you two need to get going soon.
Groaning quietly as you sit up in bed and stretch, it felt nice to not have to worry about anything as this is the first summer you decided to not take summer classes as you'd be graduating early after this upcoming fall semester. Getting up and taking your walkman out of your bag again you took out the nirvana cassette and put in green day instead, the music more uplifting and giving you an ounce of energy to put your swimsuit on and a pair of shorts and jacket to cover yourself.
“How was your nap dear?” Mingyu's mother greeted you as you walked down the stairs, your friend standing by the door waiting (im)patiently for you.
“Amazing, sitting all day in those train seats takes a toll on your back.” You take your walkman headphones off and half hazardously shove them into your jacket pocket.
“Tell me about it, I can’t sit for too long now without going stiff.” She smiles warmly as she wishes you two well as you b-line to the door after Mingyu told you to hurry up.
“Couldn’t even give me time to say bye.” You grumble as you shuffle up to the truck where Mingyu was holding the door for you.
“Sorry cherry pop, the guys are waiting for us and we still gotta get drinks.”
“Why are we getting the drinks?” You buckle up and put your headphones back on, both of your tastes in music are dramatically different as he puts in a country cassette into the radio.
“You’re home, they want you to get what you want instead of drinking what they like.”
“They still drink that shitty dollar beer right?” Mingyu nods. “Then we drink the same thing, not much has changed as I still couldn’t afford the expensive stuff being at college.”
“Great, that makes this run cheap.” The ride to the corner store was quick, the street lights lining the road leading from the ranch to town making the trees look ominous.
Once you guys had secured the alcohol you made your way to the river. The long body of water stretched for miles outside of town in both directions, and the one spot you guys have always met up at since junior high was hidden away. You had thick bushes to climb through and poison ivy to look out for as it wasn’t a regular site on the river to be at.
“Mingyu! Y/N!” Jeonghan called happily when he saw the two of you emerge from the bushes. The bonfire was already large and roaring while Cheol and Wonwoo were already in the water swimming.
“Hannie!” You smile and hug him happily, he was always the least affectionate person so when he offered you a hug you always took it.
“How have you been? It’s been years!” He pulls away from the hug to greet Mingyu while sitting down in his chair and pats the one next to him that looked to have been occupied by Seungcheol at one point based on the jacket hanging on it.
“I’ve been good, college has been tough but I'm graduating a semester early.” You smile at Mingyu who hands you a beer before he sets the box down and makes quick work to strip down to his swim trunks so he can join the other two in the water. “How have you been?”
“I’ve been great, graduating a semester later than I should've, but I took a light load last semester because I was back and forth to be here for Cheol while his mom was in the hospital.” you nod your head while taking a drink of your beer. You never realized that his mom being in the hospital was that bad.
“Mingyu didn’t tell me much about her being in the hospital so I didn’t realize it was that bad.” You look out at the three guys who are currently climbing the rock in the middle of the river so they can jump into the water.
“He wanted to write to you, ever since you left it’s all he had been beside himself about but when his mother got sick he wanted to write to you even more.” Jeonghans voice was soft, nervous that the said male would hear your two's conversation and start hounding him for spilling the secret.
“I wanted to write him too, but-“
“But you couldn’t, I’m not as hard headed as Seungcheol so I get why but I don’t get why you couldn’t have let him down sooner.” You sigh, this was a conversation you knew you’d have eventually as Jeonghan was Seungcheols best friend outside of you and he was the only one that knew about you two.
“I wanted to, believe me it was never my plan to break things off the day I was leaving but I was selfish and didn’t want to let him go yet.”
“You are selfish,” You laugh quietly, thanking him. “But he’s selfish too, this town holds too many bad memories for you and he wanted to tie you to it when you finally had the chance to escape it.”
“You know, I asked him to come with me.” You took another sip of your beer, your eyes back on the blonde who seemed to feel you staring as he tilted his head back and gave you a bitter smirk. “When I first got the acceptance letter and I was on the fence about going, he wanted me to go but he also wanted me to stay and so I told him to come with me so I didn’t have to choose.”
“He never told me that.” Jeonghan opens up another beer and gingerly takes a sip of it.
“I’m not surprised, I think he thought it was a joke.” You finally tear your eyes off of Seungcheol to look at Jeonghan. “After that I didn’t tell him I committed and just continued to relish our time together.”
“Y’know, he wanted you to go because this was your dream but he wanted to be a part of that dream and you keeping that from him and then cutting ties with him when you left is what broke him.”
“I didn’t mean to.” You mumbled and looked down at your half empty beer can. “He was the one that told me that if I wasn’t willing to make things work then he didn’t want to hear from me.”
“Well he’s dumb,” Jeonghan takes another sip. “But so are you.”
“I know.” You close your eyes and sigh, letting your head lull back on the chair.
“Are you going to talk to him while you’re home? It is the first time you’ve been home since leaving after all.”
“This isn’t my home anymore.” You don’t bother to open your eyes as you take in the warm night air. This hasn’t been your home since you left and it hasn’t felt like home for far longer, the only thing (or person) that made you feel remotely anchored here was Seungcheol.
“It was your home at one point, and I'd argue it still is because Seungcheol and the rest of us are here.”
“Corny loser.” You mumble, a small smile cracking at your lips before you sit up straight. “I’ll talk to him, I promise. I had been prepping myself all week to mend things between us while I was here.”
“Good.” Jeonghan smiles and downs the rest of his beer. “Now hurry up and finish drinking so we can go join them in the water before it gets colder.”
“You’re going to die in that water, it’s too cold for you already.” You laugh before downing the rest of your beer so you can strip down to your swimsuit, making sure not to toss your walkman around too much.
“I’ll manage.” He shrugs after taking his clothes off too before walking cautiously up to the edge of the water. He barely touches it with his big toe and he curses.
“Told you,” You stand beside him and watch his reaction. “You just gotta go in as quick as you can.” You show him how it’s done as you take a deep breath in and hold it as you quickly walk into the water before you’re deep enough to dive under.
“Show off.” He huffs before he follows in your footsteps, cursing the whole way up to his shoulders.
“You did it han,” Wonwoo pats him on the shoulder. “You’re shivering already.”
“It’s fucking cold and you’re all insane.” He huffs and starts to swim around a little, letting the cold water soothe his warm skin.
“I think it feels good.” You had popped back up next to Mingyu who was standing with Seungcheol who was watching Jeonghan worried.
“It does feel good.” Mingyu lets the water support his body as he starts to swim backwards, no longer being a wall between you and the ire of your freshman year of college.
“It’s good to see you Y/N.” Wonwoo gives you a small smile before he also swims away, leaving you and Seungcheol alone and seeing the look on Jeonghan's face in the distance makes you believe that this was planned. He clears his throat when he seems to realize you two are alone.
“Um,” Is all he manages to say before you’re taking a deep breath and turning to look at him.
“Hi Seungcheol.” He flinches at the use of his full name.
“Ouch, hi litt-“ He catches himself using the old nickname he had for you. “Hi Y/N.”
“God I hate this.” You can’t be bothered to hide the fact that the whole situation makes you sad and angry already, you missed him and he was right there in front of you and you were both acting like you wanted nothing to do with each other, which might’ve been true right after you had left but as time went on it faded into longing and anger at oneself.
“You hate this? How do you think I feel?” He crosses his arms and looks down at you.
“Cheol I-“
“I don’t want to hear excuses.”
“Ok asshole I was going to apologize but not anymore.” You roll your eyes and turn away from him so you could swim away, the conversation you had with Jeonghan felt like complete bullshit now.
“Wait,” he grabbed your arm to spin you back around, the water splashing violently at the fast movement. “I’m sorry, for everything.” It was rare that he’d ever apologize and right now it felt out of place as he had no reason to apologize at the moment.
“I practiced how this conversation would go for weeks and this was not one of the ways I accounted for. You weren’t supposed to apologize first.” You look up at Seungcheol who was just staring at you silently now, his hand still holding tightly on your arm. “Seungcheol I-“
“Stop calling me that.”
“Stop interrupting,” You huff, the smallest smile forming on his face “I’m sorry for how I left things and for everything leading up to when I left.”
“Y’know, I spent most of the first year you were gone blaming you, and then I started blaming myself until my mother made me realize that neither of us were to blame and then I spent the remainder of the time just numb.”
“If you stopped blaming me, how come you didn’t write to me?”
“You never wrote to me.” He sounded hurt and you were hurt too but you hated the pain in his voice and it caused you to move closer to him, hoping you could erase even just a hint of it.
“I’m sorry, there was never a time where I didn’t think about writing to you but your words kept playing in my head about how you never wanted to hear from me if I left our relationship behind.”
“It wasn’t much of a relationship then was it, we were just friends exploring each other,” That’s what you liked to tell eachother when you were in denial about your feelings. “I wrote letters, most of them are stamped and sitting in my desk drawer because I couldn’t bring myself to send them.”
“Yet you bought stamps for them?” You raise an eyebrow curiously.
“Yes,” He huffs, trying to hide the ounce of embarrassment he’s feeling. “I’d get these bouts of feelings where I’d want to send them and I’d get all the way to the post office with a stamp on the envelope and the second I’d park I’d back out and go back home only to hide it away with the others.”
“Cheol…”
“I know it’s probably stupid and I’ll just burn them all now since you’re home and-“
“I’m not staying,” You cut him off for some reason. “I mean I’m staying for the summer but I’m going back home to finish my last semester of college so I can get a job at a vet clinic there.”
“That’s ok, this time I promise I will write.”
“You should come with me.” You blurt out like you did all those years ago.
“I can’t leave my mother, she won’t leave this town and with her health fluctuating I just can’t.” He gave you an actual answer this time unlike he did when you were younger.
“I get it, she needs you.. But one day you have to leave this place, don’t you think?” Your hand gently touches his arm as you drift even closer to him.
“I never thought of leaving until you left.” He mumbled as his hands moved to ghost over your sides that were under the water.
“One day?” You sounded hopeful. “Even if we’re old and married to other people do you think you’d still leave?”
“I..” His voice trailed off as your breath got closer to his face. “I’d never marry… unless it was you.” He whispered before he finally kissed you, the weight of what he said disappearing as you both got lost in the taste of each other. After what felt like an eternity you finally pulled away out of breath, a quiet whistle could be heard from behind Seungcheol somewhere and you assumed it had to be Jeonghan since Mingyu would’ve quite literally jumped the two of you.
“Cheol- '' He cuts you off.
“Let's enjoy the night, yeah?” He didn’t want to talk about what he just said, or what the future would hold anymore. It’ll take time, you both realized, for things to go back to normal but for now you were content with how things were because this time he knew what to expect when summer ends, he just hoped that you’d change your mind about long distance relationships. And you hoped he’d change his mind about rotting away in this small town.

My cat is not enormously smart, nor is he particularly brave, but these simple flaws are outdone by the fact that he is also extremely disloyal. Lord Fluffbottoms, who we once believed was some kind of Norwegian Forest Cat but whose citizenship has since been contested by Norway, constantly pees all over my house whenever he gets the least bit upset. And, being dumb, he gets upset all the time.
Once, I watched him chase a fruit fly around my kitchen for over an hour. I cheered him on, although my enthusiasm began to wane after about fifteen minutes, in the same way that a parent eventually gets tired of watching their ambitious toddler repeatedly fall off a merry-go-round. Eventually, the fly got away. Escaped into some nether regions of my kitchen. Lord Fluffbottoms responded by angrily peeing on what he thought was my record collection, but was actually an empty Rubbermaid bin that I had surreptitiously filled to the brim with kitty litter. Got you, you little bastard.
I think he figured out that he had been tricked, because shortly after that he got out. It wasn't my fault: while I was at work, the city bylaw inspectors got the sheriff to cut through one of the grates holding the front door shut, and he snuck out and into the patrol car during all the commotion. If you ask me, he was probably trying to hot-wire the damn thing, but one thing led to another. Soon, I was requested to come and pick up my endlessly urinating cat from the pound, which I quickly did.
"He's such a gentleman," cooed the gentleman working the front desk. "He always wants to cuddle, and he uses the litter box perfectly."
"He uses the litter box?" I asked. "What kind of drugs did you put him on?"
It turns out that he had not, in fact, been on any drugs at all. Lord Fluffbottoms' endless ammonia-based aggression towards my life and property was just a thing he liked to do to show respect for the master of the house (technically, my landlord, but until they can procure a death certificate from whatever country his body washes up in, me.)
Still, I was beyond happy to have my special little buddy back in my life again. The field mice? Not so much, as in his absence they moved quickly into colonizing the various Plymouths dotted about the backyard. I ended up having to move what was left of my sopping-wet kitchen table out there in order to scare them back into the bushes. Lord Fluffbottoms watched the whole thing.

Tumblr media
It wasn't meant to go like this... it wasn't meant to go like this at all.
Tighnari kept staring at his friend, not knowing what to say next. The situation wasn't that complicated, he just had to complete a dare...
[FLASHBACK TO 30 MINUTES PRIOR]
"Cyno, I'm absolutely exhausted... I yield, please show some mercy!" The fennec fox pleaded, his tail thumping nervously on the floor. It was the 10th match of Genius Invokation TCG he played with Cyno, and the 10th match he lost. He really needed a change.
It was in that moment that Cyno proposed a few rounds of truth or dare, just to get to know each other even better and have a good laugh together. Tighnari wasn't too fond of the idea, but he was desperate to stop playing TCG enough to accept without hesitation.
Things seemed to go pretty smoothly for a while... until the fox picked "truth" and a much-dreaded question came.
"Are you ticklish?"
The poor Amurta graduate tried to change topic by immediately switching to a dare, but Cyno was too cunning, too curious and most importantly too mischievous to let go such a fundamental topic that easily, which is why he chose a very specific dare for his friend: "I dare you to raise your arms for five minutes straight, so that I can get the answer to thw question I asked you by myself."
[END OF THE FLASHBACK]
And there Tighnari was, undecided about what to do. Stop playing? Cyno would ambush him. Answer the question? Cyno would use that info immediately, just to verify, obviously... Raise his arms? A literal death sentence, unless he managed to hold back his laughter.
He decided to risk it all and go with the third option, hoping that his friend would get bored by the lack of reaction, so he raised his arms all the way above his head, exposing his torso. There was no way that a forest ranger like him wouldn't be able to handle a little tickle, right?
Oh how wrong he was...
The moment Cyno's hands came in contact with his sides, he wanted to crawl out of his skin and screech. He'd never realized that those fingers were so nimble, strong and gracefully merciless.
"Hm- hmpfff-!" A few sounds came out and didn't go unnoticed by the General Mahamatra, who somehow seemed to know how to make this whole ordeal as unbearable as possible.
"Come on... laugh a little more, I don't understand if you're ticklish or not" Cyno purred, clearly in his element whenever it came to annoy Tighnari. "Am I hurting you? Do you need me to stop..?"
The black-haired guy felt the immediate  need to reassure his friend, so he muttered a quick "N-no..."
If only he could've seen Cyno's ominous smirk when he gave that answer...
"Oh well, if you don't  need me to stop, I don't see why I should~"
"Nononono Cyno be reasonable, d-don't do anything dumb you'll regr- AAAAAEEHHH-!" The unlucky fennec fox didn't even have the time to protest when ten mischievous fingers reached his lower back, right at the base of his tail.
"HAHAHAHAHA CYNO PLEASEEE MOVE ALREHEHEHEADYYY!" He scream-laughed on top of his lungs, trying to crawl away... only to have the General Mahamatra sit on the back of his knees to keep him pinned to the ground.
"I am already moving, Nari." The white-haired guy stated as if it was obvious, "Don't you feel my fingers move right here?" He poked the area he was targeting just to enjoy the squeals of his friend, "Should I move a little faster?" He didn't even wait for an answer, he started scribbling all over the sensitive area at full speed, hoping that no one would come after hearing the glass-piercing screech made by the forest ranger.
After a while, he decided to show some "mercy" and change spots, targeting Tighnari's palms, where he had smooth, soft pads like foxes have. Is it really mercy if the second spot is worse than the first one, though? It was no secret that Tighnari never let anyone touch his pads, due to their sensitivity, and he was right to do so, because the lightest, softest caress had him in tears, to the point that Cyno decided to have actual mercy and stop the assault.
The Spantamad graduate gave his friend a minute to recover, then he scooped him up in his arms and gave him some needed ear and scalp scritches, which never failed to make the dark-haired guy melt.
"I guess my question has found a certain answer," Cyno stated after a few minutes, "you are deadly ticklish... too much for your own good." He concluded, chuckling at the irritated thump that Tighnari's tail made.
Another five minutes passed, and both friends were absolutely relaxed when the fennec fox's eyes fluttered open, gazing at his friend's peaceful features.
"Hey Cyno, can I ask you something?" Tighnari asked while wrapping his arms around the General Mahamatra. "Sure, go ahead." The white-haired guy replied without even bothering to open his eyes, feeling completely safe where he was.
"Are you ticklish?"

I definitely need a part 2 of the Nam-Gyu x male reader you posted! It was subtly cute asf
Death Games and Attachments # 2 (Nam-gyu x male reader)
Word count: 5.5k
Warnings: American reader ‼️, gunshots, betrayal, canon divergence, no forks 🍴, no use of y/n, dead characters in canon don’t die, probably ooc, Nam-gyu & reader aren’t together but have feelings for eachother, not proof read
Setting: Season 2 Episode 6
A/n: omg my first fic ask!!! I was thinking about writing a part 2 anyways but this gave me the push to do it :]
Tumblr media
Faint music plays over the speakers in the room as you slowly begin to wake up. You open your eyes, your sight still a bit fuzzy, and see the blank ceiling of the game’s sleeping room.
The music is now louder as you realize you aren’t at home but at this game. You do somewhat wish you were back home but you push that thought to the back of your mind, you have more important things to worry about, with the man who is sleeping next you you and who you are hugging.
You quickly untangle yourself from Nam-gyu, your bodies craving the warmth of the other while you were sleeping.
Nam-gyu still seems to be sound asleep, snoring quietly, but you decide to wake him up. The next game will probably be staring soon.
You shake Nam-gyu softly, then a bit more rough when the first doesn’t wake him up.
His snoring stops and he lets out an irritated groan as he pushes your hands away.
“Fuck off bitch, let me sleep” He says towards you, probably trying to sound intimidating but he doesn’t at all because of how much he slurs his words, still half asleep.
“The next games starting soon, come on” You say, tapping him on the shoulder for emphasis.
He opens his eyes, blinking away the tiredness, more willing to get up after hearing your voice. He seemed to not realize the fact that he was in the games previously as now a look of dread somewhat crosses his face. You question that, since you haven’t seen him with that expression yet. It’s probably the lack of drugs.
“Why do they make us do these games so early” Nam-gyu groans and pushes himself up into a sitting position beside you.
You shrug. Nam-gyu quickly scans around the room, his eyes landing on Thanos and probably his drugs.
“Let’s get with the rest of the group” Nam-gyu says, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and onto the stairs. He puts the white shoes on and quickly rushes towards where Thanos has gathered with Se-mi and Min-su.
You quickly follow suit, putting your shoes on and tailing behind him.
“Nam-su, [name], good morning!” Thanos says excitedly, in English. Nam-gyu doesn’t bother correcting the name as he sits down beside Thanos and whispers something to him.
You sit down beside Nam-gyu and Se-mi gives you a deadpan, knowing, look. Most likely referring to Nam-gyu.
Thanos pulls out his cross and opens it, handing one of the brightly colored pills to Nam-gyu who quickly pops it into his mouth.
Thanos tucks the cross back under his collar.
The drugs seem to kick in quickly, a minute or so later Nam-gyu is already looking more up beat.
Right on time too, the masked guards walk into the room and announce that the next game is starting.
“No matter what game is next we’ll kick ass” Nam-gyu says, practically bouncing from where he’s standing. He goes up beside you, now directly talking to you. “I’ll help you through the next game if you don’t know what to do, ok?” He’s close enough to you that your arms are practically rubbing against each other.
“Alright” You reply, glad for the assured help.
You and your team get into a line, following one of the guards through the maze of stairs. You have to admit, as weird and terrible as the games are, the sets are pretty cool looking.
You reach the end of the stairs and walk into a large room with a bunch of doors on the walls, too many to count at first glance. There’s also a circular platform in the middle of the room with three statues of horses in the middle, it looks like a merry-go-round.
“Your next game will be mingle” The almost robotic sounding woman’s voice rings out through the room.
“Mingle?” Nam-gyu says.
“Mingle!” Thanos yells suddenly, making the people around him, including you, flinch. “I remember this game! They call out a random number and you have to get into groups with that number.” Thanos says.
“Oh yeah!” Nam-gyu says. “I remember this game! We’ll be fine as long as they don’t call out a number less than 5.”
“They definitely will” Se-mi says.
Nam-gyu doesn’t pay her any attention as he hops along beside Thanos who is now sprinting towards the circle.
You follow behind the two of them with Se-mi and Min-su.
The 5 of you huddle up on the circle as the lights turn off and the circle suddenly starts rotating.
You get pushes off balance slightly, holding onto Nam-guy’s shoulder so you don’t fall over. He doesn’t seem to mind.
Lights turn on in the middle of the circle and music starts up. Thanos begins beating his fist upwards to the beat of the music, Nam-gyu grinning and nodding his head beside him.
You feel nervous, worried that they’re gonna make you split up the first round. Suddenly the platform stops and the woman’s voice calls out a number. “10”
You look around frantically. You need five more people.
“We need five more!” Se-mi calls out, taking initiative.
“Five!” Nam-gyu yells.
A person bumps into you in all the chaos but you don’t fall over.
“How many” She quickly says.
“Five” You reply.
“We’re five too! Come with us!”
“I found a group!” You yell towards your team as the girl rounds up her group.
“Let’s go!” Thanos yells out in English, running towards a door labeled 47. Everyone follows him, dashing into the room. 10 seconds left.
You run into the room, being the second to enter after Thanos. You’re not able to slow down in time and slam into the back wall. Quickly, you turn around to see the rest of the group.
Nam-gyu runs in with Se-mi and Min-su, the other group of five following suit, all running in. The last person in shuts the door as the timer hits zero.
You let out a sigh of relief as Thanos cheers. Nam-gyu begins cheering as well, seeming to do everything Thanos does now. The other group with you looks uncomfortable, you see that all of them have red X patches.
“Let’s go team!” Thanos yells out in English again. No one seems to fully understand what he’s saying but they get the message.
“Woo!” Nam-gyu yells.
After yelling towards their hearts content the two go quiet, the room now silent. You can hear the gunshots outside. People from the other team flinch slightly at the sound. You begin to wonder how many people just died but you push that thought to the back of your mind.
Nam-gyu goes to stand beside you, nudging his shoulder against you, grinning. You do your best to replicate and smile back.
Thanos raps under his breath, hoping his head almost violently. You can hear the sound of machinery outside. They’re most likely bringing coffins in for the bodies.
You hate how the coffins look like gift boxes, it feels disrespectful but you suppose it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The game is horrible itself, what does it matter what coffins the brutalized bodies are put in.
The lock on the door clicks open and Thanos immediately rushes out. You follow after him, walking, with Nam-gyu beside you. You step into something sticky, blood. Your face twists into a look of disgust as you look at the sole of your shoe.
Nam-gyu stood infront of you and looks back. You quickly walk forward towards him and the two of you step onto the circle where the rest of the group already is.
The room goes dark again, the circle moving. You now expect the jolt do you don’t move as much, your feet planted on the ground. The middle of the circle lights up and music starts.
Out of the corner of your eye you see Thanos nudge Nam-gyu and say something to him, though you can’t hear it over the music. Nam-gyu looks confused but Thanos links arms with him and begins dancing in a circle. Nam-gyu quickly catches on, grinning and shaking his hand as he skips around.
You’re somewhat jealous of how carefree the two of them are. You know it’s the drugs working but still. You now somewhat wish you’d asked Thanos for drugs. Before you can finish your thought process the circle jolts to a stop and the number is called out. “Four.”
You panic, there are five of you. All of you look around at each other, one has to leave. You want to sacrifice yourself, say you can go and find a group, but you’re frozen in place out of fear.
“Min-su” Se-me says. “Come with me, we can find a group.”
Min-su glances around quickly before grabbing Se-mi by the hand. The two of them run off leaving you as a group of three.
“That fucking bitch! I knew we couldn’t trust her!” Nam-gyu yells out at the same time as Thanos yells, “Min-su! My boy!”
You quickly glance around and your eyes catch on to a man yelling that he needs a group of three, his patch reads 001. You quickly rush over to him. You look back for a second and you see a look of betrayal on Nam-guy’s face. You quickly look back forward as you come to a stop before 001.
“We’re a group of three!” You yell above the chaos. His head quickly turns to you and he nods, following you as you run back to Nam-gyu and Thanos. Nam-gyu looks relieved as you run back.
“Come on!” You yell, running towards the first room you see with an open door. You don’t look back, knowing the three will follow you.
You run into the room and Thanos, Nam-gyu, and 001 follow in quickly. 001 shuts the door as you look towards the timer, 2 seconds left.
As the door clicks shut Nam-gyu begins to speak.
“I knew those pussies would betray us! You can’t trust women, man, and Min-su basically a woman.”
001 looks irritated. You now remember on the first day where 001 broke up a fight between Thanos, Nam-gyu, and that crypto bro. He was probably the worst person you could have brought but at least you’re all alive.
Thanos pushes up against the door, looking through the crack.
“Min-su!” He yells, acting like he actually cared for him.
Nam-gyu lets out a huff and leans against the wall beside you. His arm touching yours again. You only now realize how touchy he’s been. With anyone else you’d assume they might like you but you think this is just how Nam-gyu is. After all you saw how clingy he is with Thanos.
“Fucking bitch..” He mumbles, still not over the betrayal. You sigh.
“It doesn’t matter,” You tell him. “We’re alive and her and Min-su are off somewhere else. We can survive with just the three of us, we don’t need them.”
He looks over at you and lights up slightly. “You’re right, we don’t need those fuckers.”
“Hell yeah! Thanos team!” Thanos barges into the conversation, not caring about Min-su anymore.
He puts his hand face down in the air, after a second you realize what he’s doing and place your hand onto of his. Nam-gyu puts his hand over yours.
Thanos counts from three and the three of you lift your hands up and Thanos yells “let’s go!” In English.
Somehow, that made you feel a bit better. Just barely, as you can hear the fading gun shots in the background.
001 stands off to the side, not talking, just observing.
“We don’t need any girls!” Thanos says, bringing your attention back to him.
“Yeah, girls are weak anyways” Nam-gyu continues.
You don’t add onto what they’re saying, Se-mi seemed fairly strong but that doesn’t matter anymore. It’s just the three of you.
The door unblocks and once again thanos is the first to rush out. Nam-gyu bouncing along behind him. You follow Nam-gyu with 001 behind you.
Before you can say anything to him, 001 rushes off, probably back to his own group.
“What do you think the next number is gonna be?” Nam-gyu asks you, putting his arm around your shoulders.
“Hopefully three, then we wouldn’t need any more or less.” You reply.
Nam-gyu hums as a response as you glance around, unconsciously looking for Se-mi and Min-su. Your eyes lock onto them, walking out from a room with a random player. Min-su locks eyes with you but immediately looks away, probably for the best.
It starts up again, this time though Nam-gyu and Thanos don’t dance along to the music, the just stand there.
“3”
“Let’s go team Thanos!” Thanos calls out, making a sprint toward the door. Nam-gyu grins at you, your prediction correct. The two of you follow behind Thanos. You enter the room with 20 seconds left to spare.
“You were right!” Nam-gyu says, paying your shoulder.
“We got lucky.” You smile, somewhat genuinely for the first time since you joined these games, relieved that you don’t need to give anyone up.
20 second pass, the door locks, and gunshots ring out. To your shock, and slight disgust, you’ve gotten used to the gunshots and screams.
Your smile fades from the sound.
“We’re good at this.” Nam-gyu says.
“It’s cause we’re fast, and young, we can get to the rooms in time.” Thanos replies, shifting from foot to foot, unable to stand still.
“Hell yeah, it’s good that the weaklings got left behind, we don’t have to get dragged down by them. They’re probably dead by now anyways.”
“Do you think mg coin is dead?” Thanos asks.
“God I hope so”
“Why do you guys hate him so much?” You ask.
“He scammed us man!” Nam-gyu exclaims.
“That piece of shit scammed me out of all the money I got by busting my ass rapping!” Thanos says.
“You both bought the crypto?”
“He said we’d get more money.” Nam-gyu says.
“Huh, alright” You refrain yourself from making a comment about how stupid it is to trust some random guy on the internet with your money, especially when it comes to crypto.
The door clicks open and all of you walk out, Thanos first. As he steps out of the door he says “welcome back, my friends” in English, followed by Nam-gyu saying “skrrt!” You hold back a laugh.
You’re shocked with how quickly you’ve gotten attached to Nam-gyu, a warm dealing spreading through your body. You suspect it’s because you’re stuck here in this horrible place with him. Your mind latched on to the first person you got somewhat close with.
But you don’t feel nearly as close to Thanos as you do with him. You push this thought off, deciding to deal with it after the game.
The the of you reach the circle again and the process repeats.
“6”
Three more.
“We need three!” Nam-gyu yells out.
“Three people!” You yell alongside him.
Your eyes look frantically around and you spot three people. Se-mi, Min-su, and one other. You have no other choice.
“Come on!” You grab Nam-gyu and Thanos and run towards them. Se-mi spots you and begins running with Min-su and the other guy towards an open door. You run in behind her with Thanos and Nam-gyu, shutting the door once the six of you are in.
The awkwardness is immediately palpable, everyone seems uncomfortable. Except for Thanos, of course.
“Min-su! My boy! I was so scared you died!” He goes over and hugs Min-so, who tries to wiggle away from him.
Nam-gyu scowls.
“This means nothing.” Se-mi says. “We split up again after this round.”
“Yeah, I’m not being with these pussies again. They’re just being us down.”
“Calm down” Thanos says, putting his arms out.
“We weren’t-“ Nam-gyu gets cut off by Thanos again.
“Se-mi is right, we don’t talk about this, the Thanos team doesn’t include Se-mi, Min-su and the random.” Thanos says, suddenly sounding serious, but you know that he isn’t actually.
Nam-gyu seems disappointed that Thanos remembers Se-mi and Min-su’s names but not his. Se-mi seems disappointed that she’s agreeing with an idiot like Thanos.
The room goes quiet again, Thanos nodding his head a beat only he can hear and everyone else feeling too weird to talk.
The door clicks open and the six of you walk out.
“Final round” The voice calls out. You let out a sigh of relief, glad that you have to only deal with one more of these rounds.
You step onto the platform, Thanos and Nam-gyu beside you. Se-mi and Min-su walk to the other side of the circle.
The lights shut off and the platform begins to move. The light in the middle turns on along with the music.
You begin to zone out, the bright colors all blurring I your vision and the music getting quiet.
The music stops.
“2”
You quickly snap back, two. There’s three of you. One has to go.
You look wide eyed at the two men beside you.
Thanos quickly shakes his head from side to side, between you and Nam-gyu. He’s still not taking any of this seriously and it’s beginning to piss you off.
Thanos quickly stops and grabs Nam-gyu by the arm, running off. You freeze in place as Nam-gyu looks back at you. He looks regretful, being dragged along more than actually following.
But his survival instinct is stronger than any bond you thought both of you had.
A wave of betrayal goes through you, more than you’ve ever felt before, more than when Se-mi and Min-su left you.
You thought maybe Nam-gyu was as attached you you as you were to him but you were wrong. All he cares about is survival, not you. You suppose you can’t blame him though.
Suddenly, snapping you out of your thoughts, someone grabs you and drags you towards the one empty room, pushing you in and closing the door before the timer stops and the door locks.
The man lets out a sigh, you recognize him as the person with Se-mi and Min-su.
You don’t care all that much, though. Emotions crashing down onto you, all the adrenaline leaving your body leaving you feeling deflated.
You lean up against the wall, exhausted even though it probably hasn’t been more than an hour. You just want to go back to sleep, you want to go home.
You don’t think about the fact that you won’t even have a home if you don’t get enough money. But that doesn’t matter now.
The minute or so you spend in the room feels both like an eternity and lite it was over in a second. The lock clicks open and you walk out, not bothering to speak to the guy who saved you.
You don’t look around the room, not wanting to see Nam-gyu or Thanos now. You keep your head down and follow the pink guard out and back into the stairwell.
After a minute of walking you enter back into the ‘bedroom’, you’re one of the last people in. The mood is somber, theres not many people left.
“[Name]!” You hear someone rushing towards you, you recognize the voice as Thanos, the last person you want to see right now.
He hugs you, a feeling that makes you want to crawl out of your own skin, and of course Nam-gyu is behind him. Though Nam-gyu doesn’t look very happy.
“I’m so happy to see you again bro!” Thanos says in English, smothering you in a hug. You give up trying to escape as he unwraps from you, still holding on to your shoulders.
“”I thought I was running with you the I looked back and saw I was with this idiot” He points to Nam-gyu who tries his best to smile and laugh.
“Come on, let’s play just one more game, alright?” Thanos says, wrapping an arm around your shoulder and walking you towards you guys’ spot on the stairs. Nam-gyu follows.
Right when you guys reach the spot, guards enter through the front and announce that it’s time to vote. It’s from last number to first.
The voting starts with 456 who votes X, from then the votes seem fairly split.
Thanks goes up to vote and kisses the blue button. The thought of how many dirty hands had touched that before him makes you grossed out.
Nam-gyu goes up, but not before telling you once more to vote blue, sounding less convincing than he was before.
“Just one more game”
It’s your turn to vote now, you walk up to the podium and stare at the two brightly colored buttons before you.
Even though Thanos and Nam-gyu had just betrayed you, leaving you for dead, their words keep repeating in your head. ‘Just one more game’. The button lights up blue under your hand and you walk over to your side.
Even if you did go home now, you have no money. The amount that they’re offering now is good, but it’s not enough. You’ll soon be back to where you were before this game.
Either way you’ll probably end up dead, if not literally then figuratively. But still, you can’t help that part of your mind that yearns for home, even if that home is a shitty studio apartment that you can barely pay for.
You don’t pay attention to Thanos patting you on the back, saying that ‘he knew you would make the right choice’ and ‘he’s proud of you’.
Nam-gyu continues to stay unusually silent, almost like he feels bad for leaving you. You remember the look on his face as he ran off with Thanos.
The drugs are probably just wearing off.
The last person goes up to vote, 001. He stands there for a second, like he’s contemplating which button to push, but in the end he pushes red.
You look up at the board and it’s 50/50. A tie.
The guards say that you will all be able to vote again tomorrow for a tie breaker. You don’t mind this all that much, it gives you some time to get your shit together and hopefully even if you do say there will be a break from the games for the day.
The voting buttons are taken out and food is brought in. You, Thanos, and Nam-gyu are some for the first few people getting food so it’s not soon before you walk off with it to your spot on the stairs.
You do want to split off from these two, but it’s probably better to stay in a team, just in case. And now atleast you know that you can’t fully trust them, so if you get too suspicious you can break off and find someone else, maybe Se-mi and Min-su if they’re willing to let you back in.
You don’t acknowledge another part of the reason you want to stay with them. You’re still attached to Nam-gyu, you don’t want to leave him. Even though you’re pissed at him, you still want to stay for whatever reason.
You unwrap the food you were given and see sushi inside, atleast it looks good.
Only now do you realize how hungry you are. You haven’t eaten since yesterday and even then it was just some bread. You quickly eat one of the pieces of sushi. It isn’t amazing but it’s food. You scarf down the rest of it.
Once you finish your food you wish there was more, you’re still hungry, but there’s nothing you can do.
You drink the soda that you had forgotten about the second you saw the sushi.
“This soda tasted like shit” Nam-gyu says, breaking the silence.
“It’s like knock-off coke” You reply.
“Yeah! They tried to make coke but it just tastes like dirt.”
“I think dirt would taste better than this.”
Nam-gyu snickers and you smile faintly. You hate how easily you’re talking to him, like none of the last hour happened. You wish you could hate Nam-gyu, but you know that you don’t. Well maybe you do a little bit but not enough. Thanos, though, you do hate. But there’s nothing you can do about that, the two of them are basically a package. Buy one get one free.
As if on cue Thanos speaks up. “Those fuckers voted red”
You look to where Thanos is pointing and see Se-mi and Min-su.
“I knew that bitch was bad news from the beginning, we should kill her.” Nam-gyu says.
“Let’s just talk to her and Min-su first” Thanos replies.
You know that ‘talk’ will probably lead to a fight so you bud into the conversation.
“Let’s not, we should just leave them be, they aren’t worth our time” Both Nam-gyu and Thanos look over at you. “They’ll probably die in the next game with how weak they are, let’s just let nature take her course.”
You say the last part to save face, trying to not seem like the odd-one-out of the three of you.
Nam-gyu gives in easily, agreeing with you. It takes Thanos a bit more time though, but be eventually agrees.
The peace doesn’t last for long though. A group of O’s and X’s begin arguing in the middle of the room.
Thanos seems too eager to join the argument. Before you can stop him he jumps up and runs forward.
You lean back, giving up trying to stop him from being stupid, it seems like it’s just part of him.
To your shock Nam-gyu doesn’t follow Thanos and stays put in his seat.
“You’re not going with him? That’s a first” You say, jokingly bashing Nam-gyu.
“I don’t feel like arguing right now, I’m too tired.”
“That’s fair. You just usually follow along behind Thanos like a lost puppy.”
“No I don’t, I’m more like a guard dog. People see Thanos and they’re like ‘okay this guy looks stupid and weak’ but then they see me and they’re like ‘oh shit I can’t mess with him!’ Ya know?”
You barely hold your laugh in until Nam-gyu finishes his spiel, then you can’t help how you laugh in his face.
“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard” You say, gasping between breaths before laughing again.
“Oh come on! It’s not that funny.” Nam-gyu looks embarrassed, that makes you laugh even more, until your stomach hurts.
“Oh my god, I haven’t laughed that hard in so long.”
“Asshole”
A feeling of disgust passes through your brain, you’re having this much fun with some asshole who just left you for dead, but you don’t dwell on it, preferring to focus on the good mood.
“You’re not an attack dog, look at you!”
“What do you mean look at me?!”
“You’re more like a tamed hyena, you follow behind Thanos and snicker and taunt along to his comments.”
“I’m the leader of the group, not him.”
“As if”
Nam-gyu rolls his eyes.
“Then you’re like a ratty street cat, we picked you up and you just stuck with us”
Before you can think of a comeback Thanos sits back down.
“Those asshole X’s” He says, practically pouting. “Who do they think they are.”
The fight looks fully broke up, everyone back in their previous spots with their groups.
“Thanos,” Nam-gyu says suddenly, having just remembered something. “Can I have another, you know”
“Yeah yeah, a reward for getting through the game.”
Nam-gyu grins.
Your stomach twists at the mention of the game but you ignore it.
Nam-gyu looks over at you and motions towards the cross Thanos is taking out of his jacket, as if to offer you one again.
But your mind hasn’t changed since yesterday so you shake your head.
“Hey man you can’t just go offering up my pills, we’re running low on stock.”
“I know I know, just gimme”
Thanos hands Nam-gyu a pink pill and Nam-gyu immediately puts it in his mouth and swallows it. Thanos grabbing another for himself and doing the same thing.
It feels a bit odd being the only sober one here but you’re not gonna give in to your fomo.
“After this game I should have enough to pay off my debts.” Nam-gyu says. But you know in reality it’ll never be enough, it’ll always be ‘just one more game’.
You’re gonna click X after the next game. Probably.
“Yeah bro, and then mg coin can pay us back” Nam-gyu eagerly nods along to Thanos’ words. You don’t bother to comment on the fact that they said, earlier today, that they hoped he was dead.
The woman voice on the speaker says you have 30 minutes until bed and the screen lights up with the timer.
It hasn’t felt like a whole day has passed, maybe the game took more than the hour you thought it did. Or maybe you just don’t have a good internal clock.
Thanos lets out a loud, dramatic, yawn.
“I’m tired man, that game took too much out of me.”
“Yeah, I’m ready pass out.” Nam-gyu says, agreeing with Thanos as per usual.
“Mhm” You hum, but you’re not all that tired, similarly to last night.
“Do you think any of the X’s are gonna switch sides?” Nam-gyu asks Thanos.
“Nah man, they’re all stubborn as hell, they won’t listen to reason.”
“Shit, well we can’t have another tie, it’ll drag this on longer. I just wanna be out of here with my money.”
“Yeah bro, I miss my vape” Thanos says, speaking like this vape is his child.
“I’m craving a cigarette so bad” Nam-gyu says.
You still don’t fully know how you got caught up in this group of junkies but it doesn’t matter now.
“I need to piss” Thanos says suddenly, not holding back with how he speaks.
You realize that you haven’t peed all day so you decide to go along. Nam-gyu follows the both of you.
The three of you enter the bathroom and piss, you finishing first.
You go up to the sink and wash your hands before getting some water and splashing it on your face, getting a bit into your hair too but not drenching it. You grab a paper towel and wipe your face as well as your hands.
You look back to the other two to see if they’re done and you catch Nam-gyu staring at you. Once he realizes you saw him he looks away, pretending like he wasn’t ogling at you.
The three of you walk out of the door, through the hallway, and back into the main room.
You look up at the screen which says 20 minutes.
“I’m gonna head to bed early” You say even though you aren’t too tired, you just don’t want to sit around for another 20 minutes.
“Goodnight bro” Thanos says in English. Why does he speak in English so much?
“Night” Nam-gyu says.
You nod towards them and walk up to your bead, taking your shoes off and climbing in.
You get yourself under the covers and just lay there, staring at the ceiling. You can hear the noise of 99 people talking around you but you’re not close enough to any conversation to hear what exactly they’re saying.
Soon enough the timer says 10 minutes, the chatter dying down, then it hits 0 and the lights go out. Everything is now quiet, almost eerily so.
You hear footsteps walking up the stairs and you think you already know who it is if yesterday was any indication. You look over and see Nam-gyu who says nothing this time but you scoot over in the bed and he quickly gets in.
He isn’t even trying to make an excuse this time, and you don’t fully know why you’re letting him sleep beside you. You think part of you craves the closeness, especially in this situation.
Nam-gyu gets under the sheets and turns away, lying on his side and looking towards the other beds.
You move your arm over and lay it over Nam-gyu’s body. You immediately regret it, feeling somewhat embarrassed at the thought that he might not reciprocate, and try to pull your arm back but Nam-gyu grabs it. He hold your arm to his chest. You don’t try to move it away anymore.
You don’t know why you decided to hug him in the first place. Could you have developed feelings for him in the span of a day? Maybe, and It seems like he might have caught feelings for you as well.
Like yesterday you begin to get tired with Nam-gyu there with you.
After a few minutes you give in and fall asleep.
——
A/n 2 - I don’t plan on writing a third part because if I did it would probably be them out of the games (majority voted X) but if anyone would want to read that lmk

If you want me to tag you please tell me.
English is not my first language.
When you first found the boy, he was silent. He didn’t cry or speak, just stared at you with wide, curious eyes. He was small and delicate, with a bright, radiant smile that lit up his face whenever you looked at him. It was that smile that made you heart ache with a desire to protect him.
“ You need a name. ” you murmured, brushing his soft hair back. “ How about…Kalim? ”
He tilted his head, the smile growing wider as though he understood.
“ Yes. ” you said softly, you own lips curling into a smile. “ That’s your name now, Kalim. ”
For the first few days, he didn’t speak a word. He communicated with gestures, pointing at what he wanted or tugging at you sleeve when he needed you attention. you was patient, teaching him slowly how to talk , walk , and understand the world around him.
The first time he spoke, it was your name. “ y/n ” he said, his voice small and hesitant but filled with warmth. Tears welled in you eyes as you hugged him tightly, overwhelmed by pride and love.
Kalim was a bright, cheerful child who could bring life to even the dullest of days. His optimism was infectious, and his laughter filled you small home with joy.
“ Look, y/n! ” he called one morning, holding up a crayon drawing he had made. It was a mess of colors, with two stick figures in the center. “ That’s you and me! ”
You smiled, ruffling his hair. “ It’s beautiful, Kalim. You’re such an artist. ”
He beamed, his cheeks glowing with pride.
Despite his sweetness, Kalim had a stubborn streak. He didn’t like being told no, and he had a way of wearing you down with his persistent optimism.
“ y/n, can we have ice cream for dinner? ” he’d ask, his wide eyes shining with hope.
“ No, Kalim. Ice cream isn’t dinner. ” you reply, trying to stay firm.
“ But why not? Ice cream is the best! ”
“ Because you need real food to grow big and strong. ”
He pout for a moment, then break into a grin. “ Okay, but can we have ice cream after dinner? ”
You couldn’t help but laugh. “ We’ll see. ”
One of Kalim’s favorite places was the park. You had been hesitant to take him at first, worried he wouldn’t fit in with the other children. But to you surprise, he made friends easily, his boundless energy and friendly nature drawing others to him like a magnet.
“ Look at him go. ” you murmured, watching Kalim run around with a group of kids. He was laughing, his face glowing with pure happiness.
From that day on, the park became their weekend ritual. Kalim would spend hours playing on the swings , climbing the jungle gym , and chasing his new friends around. Sometimes, he’d drag you into his games, insisting you join him on the slides or spin him on the merry-go-round.
“ You’re the best, y/n! ” he say, hugging your tightly after a long day of play.
But Kalim’s stubbornness sometimes got the better of him. When he wanted something, he wouldn’t take no for an answer, no matter how gently you tried to explain why it wasn’t possible.
It started like any other weekend. You of them headed to the park, Kalim skipping ahead as he chattered excitedly about what games he wanted to play.
But when you arrived, you noticed the construction signs posted around one of your favorite spots—a small, quiet area where you often sat together to watch the sunset.
“ Kalim, we can’t go over there today. ” you said, pointing to the warning signs. “ It’s not safe. ”
“ But why not? ” he asked, his smile faltering.
“ They’re doing construction,” you explained gently. “ It’s dangerous. ”
Kalim frowned, his stubborn streak kicking in. “ But I want to go there! It’s the best spot in the park! ”
“ No, Kalim. ” you said firmly. “ If you’re stubborn about this, I’ll be very upset. I might even stop loving you for a little while. ”
His eyes widened, and for a moment, you thought he understood. He stayed by you side for the rest of the day, but you could tell he was sulking.
Later, as you were getting ready to leave, you realized Kalim was no longer by you side. Panic surged through your as you looked around, calling his name.
Then you heard it—his laughter, coming from the restricted construction area.
“ Kalim! ” you shouted, running toward the sound. you heart pounded as you spotted him playing near a pile of steel beams, completely unaware of the danger around him.
“ Kalim, get away from there! ” you cried, you voice shaking with fear.
He turned to you, his face lighting up with a smile. “ y/n, look! I found the best spot! ”
Before you could respond, a creaking noise filled the air. your eyes darted upward, and you stomach dropped as you saw one of the steel beams teetering precariously above him.
“ KALIM! ” you screamed, running toward him.
Without thinking, you threw yourself forward, shoving him out of the way just as the beam came crashing down.
The last thing you heard was Kalim’s scream, filled with terror and heartbreak, before everything went black.
When Kalim opened his eyes, he saw you lying beneath the beam, you body still and lifeless. For a moment, he couldn’t comprehend what had happened. Then the realization hit him like a tidal wave.
“ y/n! ” he cried, his voice breaking as he crawled toward you. “ Wake up! Please, wake up! ”
He clung to you lifeless body, sobbing uncontrollably. His cries echoed through the park, drawing the attention of nearby adults who rushed to the scene.
When the paramedics arrived, they had to pry him away from you, his small hands clinging desperately to you clothes.
“ No! Don’t take her! ” he screamed, his voice raw with anguish. “ She’s mine! She promised she’d never leave me! ”
But no amount of pleading could him bring you back.
Kalim never returned to the park after that day. The place that had once been filled with laughter and joy was now a haunting reminder of his loss.
He blamed himself for what happened, replaying you words over and over in his mind. “ If you’re stubborn, I might stop loving you. ”
“ I’m sorry, y/n... ” he would whisper to himself at night, tears streaming down his face. “ I’ll be good now. I promise.. ”
As he grew older, Kalim’s grief twisted into something darker. He became obsessed with the idea of making you proud, of proving that he could be the person you always wanted him to be. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t escape the guilt that consumed him.
In his mind, you was always with him—a ghostly presence that both comforted and tormented him. He lived for you memory, clinging to the hope that, in some way, you could still see him.
And though the world moved on, Kalim remained trapped in the past, his heart forever broken by the loss of the one person he loved more than anything.

I fell asleep with spotify on and woke up to sea shanties. And in that honor:
Roronoa Zoro loves to drink. Everyone knows this. His high alcohol tolerance means he can usually keep himself in a pleasantly fuzzy state.
Still, there are times where he gets properly drunk. Absolutely blackout sloshed. And this poses the question of what to do with him? How to care for him?
That is, until Sanji joins the crew. See, the rest of the strawhats may be new to this sailing business, but not Sanji. Sanji was raised by pirates on the sea. Rowdy, fun loving, drink loving pirates. And he knows exactly what to do with a drunken sailor.
Snhsiwbehei this is so stupid. Just a silly thing that crossed my mind.
-♡♡ lots of love
Anything for you, ♡♡ Anon. What shall we do with the drunken sailor, indeed? I saw your ask about still thinking on the lazy sleeping Zoro. Thought I'd add a little more lazy swordsman in there for you.

Synopsis: You have just come off watch-shift, just as Sanji wanders onto the top deck of the Going Merry. Both of you discuss what to do about Zoro's current state of inebriation. What shall we do with the drunken swordsman...
Themes: Zoro x reader, subtle sanji x reader, drunkenness, smoking, drinking, sleeping, written with the sea shanty "What shall we do with the drunken sailor" in mind.
Notes: I listen to shanties all the time when I write. It's seriously such a vibe. This anon comes up with the best prompts, and I seriously can't. Edit to add: That version above by The Irish Rovers is what I used to dance to when I did Irish dancing as a child. One of the old tunes that made me want to play violin.

Gulls singing their sweet song of the morning lingered in the air, the perch of several flocking members sat proudly atop the top mast of the Going Merry. The chef serving beneath the Straw-Hat captain wandered on the deck to enjoy his morning cigarette after setting aside the morning crepe batter to rise. What greeted him in the morning light was a sorry sight to behold.
The puddle of drool pooling from the corner of the sword wielding first mate’s mouth was indication enough that he was past the point of no return in his drunken stupor. His snore rattled and shook the top deck, the wood almost cracking beneath the intensity of the roar falling from his parted lips.
Standing over the first mate, arms folded in twine, stood the Going Merry’s latest member: the ship's counselor.
“Mornin’ chef,” you utter without turning away from the snoring first mate. Sanji pouted with a deep frown while placing the filter of his cigarette between his lips.
“Good morning, counselor. Good watch shift?” Sanji uttered while striking his flint and lighting the end of his cigarette. You nod, both of you not tearing your eyes away from Zoro as the deep rise and fall of his chest indicated traces of life within his death-like slumber.
“Not a single thing to report, aside from this thing here, of course,” you uttered, gently tapping your toes against Zoro’s thigh as he slept soundly. Sanji inhaled a lengthy breath of his morning nicotine, exhaling down at the swordsman with a soft scowl on his face.
“How many'd he have?” Sanji asked tilting his head and examining Zoro as his shaky snore.
“Around five or six, I think,” you bob your head before further clarifying, “Bottles, not short rounds.” Sanji clicked his tongue at the confirmation, gently shaking his head.
You turn towards the blonde chef, furrowing your brows and looking at him inquisitively.
“Chef?” you quirked up at him, prompting him to turn towards you in response, “You've probably had the most experience with inebriated sea-folk. Any quick remedies you can think of for this?”
“I can think of a few cures from the tales of old,” Sanji chuckled, his smile turning more playful with each passing moment. “Shave his belly with a rusty razor comes to mind.” You scoff at him, rolling your eyes with a soft chuckle.
“Zoro's stomach is as smooth as a baby bird,” you laugh at him, “Not a hair to rid him of, rusty razor and all.” Sanji hummed, pressing his index finger to his chin and thinking further.
“Put him in the longboat ‘til he's sober is the next classic suggestion,” Sanji took a moment to take a lengthy drag with a deep chuckle, “Or: stick him in the scupper with a hosepipe bottom, is another.”
“The Going Merry has no long boat,” you shrug, looking down at the snoring former pirate hunter and lulling your head to the side, “And I don't think he'd very much enjoy a swift spanking on the meat of his ass with a rubber pipe, in his current state.”
Sanji laughed in a loud and unbridled laugh, placing the cigarette on the ground and dulling it's light with the ball of his foot.
“Put him in bed with the Captain's daughter, then?” Sanji chuckled in glee, softly nudging your shoulder with his, “That's the only other option in the tales and shanties.” You nudge him in return before nuzzling your head against his bicep.
“While stringing him upside down by his ankles on the topmast is awfully tempting,” you remove your head from Sanji's arm, “We're better off just moving him and putting him to bed to sleep it off, aren't we? Wanna give me a hand, handsome?”
“Not really,” Sanji shrugged with a soft chuckle before reaching down and grappling one of Zoro’s heavy legs, “But I will because you asked me so nicely.” You shake your head, reaching down and aiding Sanji in bearing the brunt of the swordsman’s weight to take him below deck where the others began to stir from their sleep.
As Nami got up from the only bed, Usopp and Luffy rising from the hammocks, you gently aided Sanji in placing Zoro beneath the plush duvet and atop the mattress still warm from Nani's body heat. Shaking her head, Nami fishes a bucket from the side of the room and places it by Zoro’s head.
Stirring briefly from his drunken stupor, Zoro’s blurred and swirling vision glared up at you all before his gaze softened into a lazy smile.
“I… I love you guys,” Zoro’s soft, drunken drawl lazily called to you all before turning to gaze at you, “Ya’ done with the nigh’ sh-shift, ‘Selor? Gonna snooze?”
You look over at the crew, gently giving Sanji's arm a squeeze before he turns to begin breakfast for the crew wandering atop the deck. He smiled in response, gently bobbing his chin up and wordlessly telling you to get some sleep.
“Yeah, swordsman. I'm gonna 'snooze',” you confirm with him, turning to the hammocks and beginning to choose from the three suspended bed-spaces. Before you were able to move away from Zoro’s bedside, his muscular arms shoot out and snake around your midsection, tugging you into a warm embrace beside him.
Nuzzling into your hair, he takes a lengthy inhale and groans in joy at the body heat radiating from you.
“S’ay w’th me?” he slurred in question, already beginning to fall into slumber with you tucked in his arms. “Only ‘til th’ room s’ops spinnin’?” Facing away from him, you shake your head with a light smile before moving the duvet up to cover the both of you.
“Sure, Zoro,” you already feel the weight of your eyelids weighing you down the longer you linger in his embrace, “Only until the room stops spinning.” Both falling asleep almost immediately, a soft shutter of a Den-Den image conductor could be heard mixing with the harmonious snores reverberating within crew quarters.
Nami was going to hold those images over the both of you as ransom for more of a cut from your joint haul on this upcoming adventure. You both slept soundly enough to not care, dreaming of what new horizons lay waiting for you.

As per usual, don't put my work into AI.

You were finally making some decent progress, what, with not being stuck in some bog and knowing somewhat of where you were going. A vast improvement really! Well, it would be, but unfortunately, you still reeked of rotten eggs and skunk — apparently the bog stench only got worse the longer it stayed on.
“Why did it have to dump me into the swamp,” you huffed, rounding yet another corner. “Like, it could have dumped me beside the water, but, no, no, let’s dump the magicless human right into the putrid bog water! A good guffaw, don’t you think? Ha ha ha HA!”
At least your au de Bog of Eternal Stench kept any would-be assailants away since you hadn’t run into anything (besides a rose bush, ouch) since you started making your way through the labyrinth. So maybe it wasn’t all that bad… damn, maybe your sense of smell was just used to it… hey, if stink helps you not die, then you would gladly stay stinky! Well, bitterly stay stinky is more like it.
“Assholes,” you muttered, rounding another corner.
But it wasn’t a corner; it was a crossroad. Three paths merged off of the one you were on.
… aren’t labyrinths just one long line? THIS IS A FUCKING MAZE?! You groaned, looking at your possible options which all looked exactly the same.
Decisions, decisions, decisions. Of course nothing is easy here, no no no! Gotta make things difficult now.
The hedge behind you rustled, and you whipped around, getting into a stance where you could either land a pretty good sucker punch to the hedge-stalker or make a mad dash away. But out of the hedge crawled out a small, fuzzy, caterpillar. And back at home you would have thought it was cute, but you learned your lesson from the doors; don’t trust it, or anyone for that matter.
You looked down at the caterpillar, and the caterpillar looked up at you, blinking slowly.
What are the chances…
“Do you know a way out,” you asked the caterpillar, crouching down so that you didn’t tower over it.
The caterpillar blinked at you again (apparently caterpillars in the Underground have eyelids, which isn’t the weirdest thing considering everything). “No,” it chirped and continued crawling on its merry way, wherever that may be. “But you’ll find the way.” And it disappeared into the growth of the maze, humming a little tune to itself.
You sighed, and pushed yourself back up, straightening out your shoulders and looking up to the sky. “I’ll find a way,” you breathed, looking up at the cloudless sky which was starting to turn a brilliant amber with the setting sun. “I might want to find a way is more like it.”
You looked back down to the ground, looking at the three paths in front of you. They all look the same, save for the ground making up paths themselves, with the middle and right paths looking well worn with travel. And while they may be well worn, there was a voice at the back of your head that was whispering caution. The left-most path was not as well travelled, with dead vines covering parts of it.
“Hopefully you’re right, little buddy since I could use all the luck I can get.” And you made your way down the path, hoping that it was the correct one and didn’t lead you to your death or some other unpleasant thing.
Lilia was at the entrance of the labyrinth, in front of the two doors.
“Have you seen a human, about this tall, a bit of a temper, and smelling foul,” he asked the doors.
The doors looked at each other before looking at Lilia. “And what’s it to you,” they said in unison.
Lilia smiled, but it was one of mild annoyance, not joy or amusement. “Royal orders I fear. You wouldn’t want the mistress finding out about you both tampering with a royal matter, would you?” The smile turned cat-like since Lilia had backed them into a corner.
The doors paled, with the blue door speaking up. “No no, sir! We would never dream of such a thing!!! Yes, there was a human, a wretched one at that, horribly rude!”
Lilia hummed, cocking a brow at the door. “I do think wretched is a bit of an overstatement now,” he whispered to himself. “Well, tell me where about they are then. The sooner I can collect them, the better for you lot.”
The red door sighed, “Near the heart of it, they took the left path.”
Left path? Why the left path leads to… Shit. Lilia mentally groaned, knowing that regardless of the path you took, you would end up having to deal with them eventually. “Your cooperation has been noted,” is what he said though, giving the doors both a nod before turning into a bat and flying over the labyrinth, trying to find you before you ran into whoever them was.
“Please be clever enough not to die,” he whispered to no one, hoping that he didn’t have to deliver your body to the Queen.
The left path brought you to what looked like a forest; with old-growth trees, ferns and moss covering the ground, and a list mist hanging in the air. It was peaceful and beautiful, with the setting sun illuminating the mist without burning it away.
But that would not last, night was fast approaching and you had nothing to protect you this time; no rowan tree to haul your ass up, and no sort of weapon to protect yourself besides the oh-so-lovely smell of the bog to deter something from eating you. You were pretty sure it would also keep away anything that wanted to otherwise snatch you up.
“AH!” Something jumped out from a tree, and you couldn’t fully register what it was since you were also screeching, much like the creature was at you; you with fright, the creature with amusement and joy.
Two other creatures jumped out from behind the trees and startled cackling, jumping, and clapping. Together, they surrounded you, with no way to really escape them without fighting through.
… you really should have read about fae species, since you didn’t know what they exactly were, or how dangerous they were either.
One pulled you near a pit and lit a fire, cackling in glee and dancing, trying to get you to join them. “Ah come on, human, have some fun! DANCE BABEY!!!!”
But you stayed still as more creatures came out of the shadows, dancing around the fire, giggling, cackling, and pulling a bit at your clothes to prompt you to join them. You didn’t know, cementing your feet down, your eyes watching their movements with caution.
‘Should you dance with the fae, you shall not stop dancing until you exhaust yourself. And once you wake up, you will continue dancing. This cycle will repeat itself until you dance to death.’
At least that was what the book said, and so you stayed still, regardless of how much the creatures pulled at you. While it looked like a grand old time, you remained where you were.
“I don’t have time for dancing,” you answered coldly, flinching from pinching fingers. You were also a bit shocked that Eau de Bog of Eternal Stench wasn’t keeping them away. Either, they couldn’t smell, or, they didn’t care that you smelled downright awful. “So this ‘baby’ won’t dance.”
And should I be offended by you calling me ‘baby’ or am I reading too much into it?
The main creature just shrugged and spun its dancing partner around. “Your loss human! More fun for us then! YIPPEE!!!” And it threw something in the fire to where you could feel the heat on your face.
What now? You were just standing there awkwardly as the creatures danced about, singing something that you couldn’t really make out. All you knew was that the heat, noise, and the dizzying dance of them was making your head pound, and throat scream in thirst. You hadn’t drank anything for over a day(?) — no, bog water did not count — and the heat from the fire made the thirst only worse. Shit.
“Ah, you don’t look too… hot there human,” one of the creatures snickered at its own joke at your expense. “Maybe if you dance with us, loosen up and have a bit of fun, then you can have a drink? Hmm? Dancing won’t kill you!” But its failed attempts at covering up its own malicious giggles were more than enough to stand your ground… which was coming at you quite fast since you practically collapsed.
Was it the thirst? The pounding migraine that wanted nothing more than to crawl into some dark hole and hide? Or your exhaustion from making that tiring trek, crawling yourself out of the bog and making the trek again, or the hours you had spent wandering around the maze with no real idea of where you were going? All you really knew was that you were now on the ground with the creatures poking at you to see if you were still alive.
“Aw, man! Are they already dead? That’s no fun!” One of the creatures pouted, raising up your arm, and you let it plop back to the ground. “Come on human! Get up! You’re not a party pooper are you?”
Scre you buddy! Can’t you read the situation?!
You were trying your best to stay quiet, which wasn’t all that hard, since all of your energy was gone.
“They best not be,” a familiar voice called out.
From your position, you couldn’t see who it was, but you could make out the creatures jumping away from you like you were the hot fire instead of the fire pit. But someone else was approaching until you could make out a pair of shoes in front of your face.
They crouched down beside you, placing their fingers gently at the base of your throat; taking your pulse. “Hmph, playing dead, are we, Beastie?”
That irritating chuckle. The annoying nickname. Those mischievous magenta eyes that now looked at you with curiosity and amusement.
It was him — Mr. Sparkles.
And he had just blown your act of playing possum (well, not really, since you had actually collapsed).
But you didn’t say anything, instead favouring to give him a dirty look. Yet he just shook his head in jest, and proceeded to pick you up and wrap you around his shoulders and neck like some sort of bizarre ermine pelt; better than being carried like a sack of potatoes or the bridal carry you supposed.
“Her majesty sends her regards for not turning or killing her guest,” Lilia offered the creatures. It would be such a waste and pity to see such an entertaining Beastie leave us too soon now. “But do know she won’t take to their condition lightly.”
My condition? I’m not some Victorian child with some unknown illness wreaking havoc on their body you know?! But all that you did was groan and cough. You couldn’t even cough in Mr. Sparkles’ (Lilia’s) face, since you had a lovely view of the moss-covered ground and the fae’s shoes.
He patted the back of your calves, and you would have kicked him if you had more energy, but you didn’t. “Now, we really should be off, since Beastie has… an hour to get out of this maze before they turn into some sort of worm, or a hedge; never know what this old labyrinth will decide on really.” Lilia chuckled at the thought (was it merriment, or was he happy that you weren’t joining the caterpillar you met earlier?).
“No,” you wheezed. “WoRm!”
“See! They said it themself! No worm! How lovely that we are on a similar wavelength, Beastie! Marvellous even!” Lilia exclaimed, and the both of you started levitating off of the ground. “Now, do enjoy your party, Fireys!”
The creatures (Fireys apparently) groaned but got back to their party, dancing around the fire like they didn’t just try to lure you to your death mere minutes before.
“Tsk tsk, Beastie,” Lilia’s tutting brought your attention back to him and you grumbled. “You owe me two favours now, you know. Lucky that I found you… although that part wasn’t hard. I thought you learned your lesson the first time you decided to take a dip into the Bog of Eternal Stench?”
You lightly kicked him, letting your irritation be known, but Lilia just hummed. “Now now, no need to be like that! Do you want to smell like a bog when you meet the mistress? She wouldn’t take kindly to your… unique aroma.”
You hissed out a breath since he decided to pinch at your ear rather harshly — prompting for you to answer. “No,” you whispered hoarsely.
“Also, do read up on that book, since you will want to know about the government and fae species etiquette!”
From a smelly bog and fumbling around a maze for hours on end, to finding yourself being taken to fae high society… was it too late to become some worm in the maze? I think being a worm actually has a better chance of me living.
But sadly, you were saved from an eternity of being a worm. Hopefully, Mr. Sparkles (Lilia) would cover for your blunders a little for when you found yourself in front of ‘the mistress’.
