I'm a European who has never seen a gun in real life let alone handled one so I never even realised that the way Dean loads his guns is unusual! Such a cool little detail, thank you for pointing it out! :)

well, i am an aussie who has also never seen or handled a gun irl! 😅

but the directors sure did love to focus on dean and his guns throughout the years. and actually.. i didn't realise how recognisable his handling of guns was until I saw that post. it made me think of all the times we see dean with guns - whether he's alone in the scene/shot or not - and how the guns draw the eye because of the way dean handles them. some shots like that one in 12x12 really put the gun front and centre in a close-up, but even when he's just handling them in the background of scenes with other people around he does so in a manner that makes it clear to be as much a part of his character as all his other physical traits: like the way he walks and holds his posture, and of course his tactile nature, to name a few. we also have jensen to thank, whether it was his own tendency to handle the guns that way that just came to be known as dean's, or whether it was an acting choice, it adds to the rich tapestry of dean meta.
