i don't usually post fic recommendations, but i'm currently rereading my favorite fic in the entire universe (not an understatement) and i thought hey, maybe i should share this so others can share my brainrot. here's its stats:

title & link: noble heart such as yours word/chapter count: 23,884. says 5/6 chapters, but most of it is in the first chapter, which is a big oneshot basically. the other chapters are little side stories in the universe. what it is: as weird as it sounds, this is a fic where dean thomas and harry potter become best friends with the twist that dean is the son of susan pevansie (yes, from the chronicles of narnia) and her two partners, claudia and abraham

when i tell y'all i cried three times reading this i am legit not joking. it's genuinely the best thing i've read on ao3 and i hope you all check it out and give it some love because it 100% deserves it.

Alohaemora has a collection of next gen stories that are great! I especially loved their 13 days of Christmas story with all the different couples.

Birth Certificate - this is wip but it’s sooo good and I love Rose/Scorpius so much and fine this Rose so funny and refreshing compared to a Hermione clone

Startwearingpurple - she has some of the best Rose Weasley fics out there! They are so funny and also interesting, the situations this girl gets into is mind boggling and the whole universe is so fun. She also has stories about Molly, Lucy, and Roxanne, and she has made Teddy and Victoire into a pair of loving parents to their hoard of children

A dusting of flour smudged on her cheek - I just reread this one yesterday, I love Harry and Lily-Lulu’s dynamic. I feel like this really gets the sweet father/daughter bond down well

Rainbow - while I didn’t like all the headcanons thrown in, I did like the overall story told and the writing was top notch

FloreatCastellum - has some great next gen stories, though I believe they have retired from writing fanfiction

Chicks Before Broomsticks - is a Roxanne lesbian story! With lots of Quidditch and pining between team members, featuring a Deamus daughter

my year in fic - 2022

I was tagged by @the-francakes (x), @schmem14 (x), @broomsticks (x), and @danpuff-ao3 (x) for a fic roundup/2022 review/stats something or other, so I'm combining them all here.

2022 was definitely a year of fests. Fests fests fests fests!!! I joined and modded so many fests that I'm taking a month long break in January. But I also had SO MUCH FUN. Fests are addictive and there's a reason for that.

Your Cigarette Smell [Sirius/Narcissa, E, 9.7k] — My fic for @hprarepairfest 2021! Which might be cheating a bit, but technically the fest ended in Jan of this year, and I love this fic so much that I really wanted to count it. But what could be better than Blackcest hate sex for the ages?

What is this, fucking Jeopardy? [Drarry, E, 20.5k] — Written for @hd-cluefest this year and an absolute blast! Cursed Draco and Curse-breaker Harry were a dream to write. This was my most popular fic from 2022!

Rosmerta's Special Brew [Andromeda/Rosmerta (but mostly gen), T, 6.0k] — My fic for @hpqueerfest that is a testament to queer joy and queer love. I love this fic with all my heart 💖

Call me baby (I'll be on the way) [Neville/Blaise, E, 6.3k] — Written for @hp-soulmates which I also modded 🙈. So much MISCOMMUNICATION and oblivious boys in love. Also filled with rare pairs galore!

Death and Undeath [Fred/George, E, 3.1k] — Written for @hpcestfest where I got to dip my toes into the Dead Dove scene. This is a fav of mine because I got to combine magic and science and wove it into George's desperation as he tries to bring Fred back to life.

Oh baby, here we go again. I'm SUPER excited for my fic for @dronarryfest 2023. I can't go into details because it's anon, but I am SO EXCITED.

I've started a longer Cissamione fic that I hope I get the chance to work on next year. Will it ever be published? We'll see.

Time travel Tomarry! I've read a lot of Tomarry but never really written it, so I'm trying it out for the first time.

Might finally continue my Drarry Squid Games-inspired fic. Maybe. Possibly.

3️⃣ Top 3 biggest improvements in my writing over the past year

Brevity: I think I'm finally getting the hang of cutting down scenes so I'm not info-dumping too much on the reader.

Confidence: I've definitely become more confident in my writing. I still wouldn't say I'm the best, but confident enough that I enjoy reading what I write.

Angst: I think I can write a fairly good angsty ficlet now. Fluff and smut, I might need to work on a bit more.

2️⃣ Top 2 resolutions (ways I wish to improve my writing/blog) for the new year

FINISH A LONGER WORK. I would love to actually finish something over 50k words and publish it chapter by chapter.

Cut back on fests (lol, yeah right) and make more room for myself. Be more mindful of my fandom limits and when to step back and take a break.

1️⃣ Number 1 favorite line I've written this year!

What if that was not the end?  Flip back to the beginning. Reink the quill. Rewrite the page.  Would that be enough to forget? Would that be enough to remember?

From White, the colour of flowers, my Drarry Hanahaki fic [M, 3.2k]. Lots of angst, multiple endings, and (un)requited love. I used this quote as a transition between sections, and it's still one of my favorites.

One story comes to mind which perfectly fits the bill and that is Pulley System by @reallybeth9. It's a Muggle AU where the two know each other since childhood.

Another one would be all my best lies by @remedialpotions. It's 6th year AU where Hermione asks Ron to be her fake boyfriend for a wedding.

These three I haven't read yet (at least not all of it) but they should also fit the bill:

This became a longer post than I thought, so I put the recs under the readmore line (I really hate long posts showing up in my time line).

Ron struggles with what to do when he realizes that there can only be terrible reasons for why Harry isn’t responding to his letters. Little does he know that Ron’s distress is just as worrying for his family.

This is adorable, angsty and just beautiful. I also recommend everything else by that author, but all of their stuff is over on FFN. My favs are The Boogeyman (read the A/N at the beginning!) and Spitfire.

Not county the fault in faulty manufacturing, could you share some other Seamus Finnegan centric fics? Please?

I'm assuming you mean "not counting." Hmm.. The only fic I've read where I've seen some really amazing characterisations of Seamus is @marycontraire's The Wandsmith's Apprentice, but it's told from Dean's point of view so I suppose I wouldn't call it Seamus-centric. This author has other deamus fics I have yet to read (my tbr is endless), but I think most of them are also told from Dean's perspective.

I've asked around and people have recommended this one by @floreatcastellumposts but I've been warned it's more about Harry's story, told from Seamus's point of view.

I'd love to read more though. I think Seamus, generally, isn't much written about. I feel strangely particular and protective of him in his characterisation. There's only 24 works labelled as "POV Seamus Finnigan" on AO3. If anyone has recs to add to my TBR, be my guest in the comments below.

It's that time of year again. Turning another year older means age is just a number, right? I'm not doing anything crazy today (sadly I'm working rn), but hopefully I can enjoy the rest of the evening and make it into a birthday weekend, as long as RL cooperates.
