"news organizations misled people into thinking COVID was over" literally all the reporting I've seen on it was that we have officially (according to WHO) left the pandemic phase. which is correct and does not mean "COVID is over" it means it's an endemic virus now.

You are an immortal, having to deal with the rather troublesome rumour that your blood grants immortal life. However, what those after your blood don't know is that since you can't die, you are an excellent host to several deadly bacteria and viruses-all existing peacefully in your blood.

Something I've been wondering more and more about in the last few years is if this what people in the stories we tell about the apocalypse felt like. I don't think so. So often when we talk about the apocalypse it happens fast, a quick and violent transition from Before to After. They don't often get a chance to see it coming, for it to happen so slowly that everyone convinces themselves that it isn't happening. The chance to see the car crash coming, but be powerless to stop it because the people driving the car are too busy telling you nothing is wrong to steer you out of the way. I wonder if it's wrong to be so convinced that this is the End, but I don't know what other conclusion I'm supposed to come to. We won't go out with a bang, but with a wimper. I'm just sad we didn't get one of the fun apocalypses.

The Top 10 Most Dangerous Viruses in the World
Tumblr media
Viruses are some of the most dangerous and deadly pathogens that can infect humans. These tiny microbes can cause a range of illnesses, from mild to severe, and have the potential to spread rapidly across populations. Humans are symbiotes
When we met humans we were naïve enough to assume they were like us. We thought each of them was a single entity until our ships systems completed their routine scans.
Of course we offered to rid them of the parasites they carried, it was politeness or so we thought. It took some careful explaining, we expected they would be horrified by the realisation there were microscopic creatures living within them. Instead they were horrified at the thought of losing them.
Humans are each a chorum. Do not be fooled by their use of the singular, the body you see is a vehicle carrying a population of billions.
All the bacteria and viruses we worked so hard to eradicate, humans instead invited in and made a part of them. The relationship is so profound they will deliberately cultivate and ingest the species they prefer to have inside them, and their digestion of food (another horror with their definition of food including a lengthy list of poisons) relies on of having the right population mix.
They create and alter viruses at whim to do many chores, and easily tolerate micro-organisms deadly to us.
They are each a walking army, deadly in the most terrifying way imaginable.
How do I know this?
We thought our systems isolated everything, we thought we were safe and their protective suits were sterilised. Somehow, we missed it. One of the suits had clinging to it a tiny virus colony.
When the Captain realised what was happening they closed every airlock and isolated each section to halt the spread. I got stuck on the lower storage deck for almost two cycles.
The humans did all they could to reassure me from a distance, sharing their knowledge to cleanse the ship for the rescue party. They knew they could not come in, but they would speak to me, make sure I knew what was happening and that they had called for rescue on my behalf, and how long it would be until I could be released.
They were mortified by the actions of one of the feral viruses they consider little more than an irritating pest.
I think they were sad to realise they can never safely interact with us or fully join our union. They can watch from a distance, but never walk on our worlds or share our ships. For a symbiotic ensemble that isolation must be painful even knowing it is vital for life.
I am one of the only members of the union to have met humans in person.
I alone survived the plague the humans later identified as 'the common cold'.

ALERT! Bill Gates’s Secret Lab Experiments: Deadly Viruses Engineered for Mass Extinction – Devastating Bio-Weapons
The stark reality we face today delves into the darkest depths of human capability. At the center stands Bill Gates, a figure whose immense wealth is being used not for innovation, but to conduct experiments that push us to the brink of catastrophe. These Gates-funded labs at University of Wisconsin-Madison are not about pandemic prevention—they are about unleashing biological weapons capable of mass extinction.
Behind the guise of vaccine development, Gates’s billions fund genetic manipulation and viral enhancements, working with Yoshihiro Kawaoka, a name that should make your blood run cold. The real goal isn’t better vaccines—it’s to weaponize viruses like H5N1, a lethal pathogen, and make it transmissible between humans on a massive scale. Every experiment brings us closer to a man-made supervirus, impossible for natural immunity to fight, that could wipe out entire populations.
COVID-19 already showed us how pandemics can shift power, tighten control, and enforce compliance. Now imagine a deadlier virus, one deliberately unleashed to lock us into a future of surveillance, fear, and submission. This is the nightmare scenario that Gates and his cohorts are building, where control of a virus means control over humanity.
The media won’t talk about it—they’re too busy taking Gates’s money—but the truth is starting to leak. These labs, cloaked in secrecy, are building a future where bioengineered viruses can be blamed on “natural” outbreaks while being used to reshape global control. The strategy is clear: create fear, offer a solution, and tighten their grip on the world.
The rapid development of vaccines is part of the plan. While sold as protection, it shows how quickly the global elite can mobilize to protect themselves while manipulating us into compliance. This research is a double-edged sword—one side for a cure, the other for catastrophe.
We are on the edge of a future where biological weapons are not a distant threat, but a reality, manipulated by elites like Gates to wage wars without borders. This is no longer about safety—this is about control, domination, and the potential destruction of life as we know it.
We must wake up and resist before it’s too late. A storm is coming, and the global elite are at the helm, toying with the power to annihilate us all. The time to act is now.
I WILL NOT COMPLY 🤔

writing tips - sick/poisoning fics
so since you guys ate up the injury thing like holy fuck 1.5k notes in 24 hours??? hello?? I thought I'd do a semi-related one about sickness.
disclaimer because you guys thoroughly reminded me of this: medicine is fucking weird and everybody reacts differently. this is blanket statement information, not the mayo clinic. idc that 'oh my cousin had that disease and he didn't have that symptom' okay whatever like sorry but that's not the point of this post. this is just to eliminate egregious mistakes. I'm not looking into every possible way this illness will show up. chill your tits. the comments on the last post were just like. dude. chill.
aurkay so.
poison-related illness.
okay poisoning is such a cool concept and there are literally so many cool effects it can have. Idk why everyone goes with the holy trinity of hallucinations, fainting and nausea. like yeah those are good but there are so many other things???
like internal bleeding. literally the best. I love it. It's slow but hella deadly and sometimes people can't even feel it/don't know what's happening. that's such a great option for whump or some angst. like they didn't know until it was too late. gold.
also - some poisons are not dissolvable in food or drink. Like certain medicines, they lose effectiveness if digested instead of injected intravenously. obviously you don't have to know that but if you wanna get into it, do a lil bit of research. could bring up some intriguing scenarios.
infection or sepsis
yoooo. sepsis is lowkey terrifying. infections are similar to actual illness but are caused because of an unsanitary wound. lots of interesting symptoms to browse here:
fever, cramps, fainting, hallucinations, dehydration, delirium, nausea, sores, sepsis, organ failure and on and on and on.
infection happens so fast too. like forget to change a bandage once and boom it could be infected. (is that a whump opportunity I hear...?)
sepsis is like the point of no return pretty much. Unless you've got crazy medical technology, sepsis is really really bad. basically, it's when the body overreacts and starts to damage its own tissue. leading to organ failure and then eventually death. spooky.
regular illness
this just means like a virus or something. a key point of viruses is an elevated temperature and dehydration; the body's primary responses. burn the bug out and dehydrate it.
depending on the illness, symptoms will vary. respiratory infections or viruses involve congestion, coughing, sore throats, a rattly breathing sound, and productive coughing (phlegm and mucus). Stomach illnesses include cramps, nausea, dehydration, dizziness, low blood sugar, weight loss, and diarrhea. these can overlap but mostly those are the groupings.
with fevers come achy joints and sensitive skin. fever is inflammation, like mild swelling everywhere because of how intense the antibody reaction is.
dehydration sets in really quick. really bad dehydration induces dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, delirium, lethargy, and fainting. great motivation for a whumper to possibly restrict whumpee's water intake...?
just some prompts! kinda low energy today sorry I haven't been posting, xox

While public appetite for Covid news is low, experts say the stakes for communicating about respiratory illnesses are deceptively high. An ongoing bird flu outbreak and a small but deadly swine flu outbreak in Colombia this year have public health experts worried that another flu pandemic is all but assured in coming years. As government officials downplayed Covid, flu, and other deadly viruses in recent years—shortening Covid isolation times and lifting restrictions—misinformation about measles, another respiratory illness, has proliferated. A massive measles outbreak is currently roiling Europe, and Florida has now reported multiple cases at a single school. State officials who rose to prominence by opposing Covid measures said the 200 unvaccinated students who had been exposed did not need to quarantine.
Then there is the threat of more novel viruses; dangerous new coronaviruses have emerged every seven to nine years in the past two decades, which means we may be soon see another. In the meantime, Covid is still hospitalizing and killing people even with current guidelines; it could get worse when people are urged to move more freely while contagious.
In theory, we should be better equipped than ever before to counter these threats. “Covid has elevated the amount of access and information and awareness that we have [of] seasonal respiratory viruses,” said Erin Sorrell, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. Covid taught us that these respiratory viruses can be airborne, that asymptomatic people can still infect others, and that the time it takes to stop shedding the virus can vary widely; we also learned what we can do to lessen these challenges.
The CDC has yet to make the proposed changes public—or even confirm the Post’s report. When I contacted the agency for comment on this piece, a spokesperson responded that there are “no updates to COVID guidelines to announce at this time,” and the agency “will continue to make decisions based on the best evidence and science to keep communities healthy and safe.” But the guidelines outlined by the Post’s three sources would run counter to the available research on Covid and other respiratory illnesses—presumably in order to satisfy economic and political interests. The consequences both for contagion and public trust, should the agency follow through on these plans, could be severe.

General HCs
✞Eyeless Jack (Jack Nyras)✞
- Physically about 23, but he’s been in the same body for roughly 15 years.
- 6’8. Has to duck through most doorframes, but the infirmary has tall enough doors for him to fit through.
- Russian! Grew up there and moved to Washington for college. He has a heavy accent on top of his distorted voice, so he’s pretty hard to understand.
- Growing up he was an ideal child. Honors in every class and absolutely stellar at the viola. Even though he was super successful, his parents were never very satisfied.
- Most of the time it felt more like they were dictators rather than parents, but he didn’t know any better. When he moved away for college he realized that parent are supposed to care about you more than your grades or appearances.
- When there’s no one in the infirmary he does sudokus and crossword puzzles.
- He can smell absolutely any health issue, so he’s the main man for the mansion’s check-ups.
- Really good with kids! Usually not the first thing that comes to mind when you see a seven foot tall demon, but if he’s not hungry he’s extremely gentle and sweet.
- Volunteered at a nursing home as a nurse when he was in college! Some of the old ladies there still ask about him, they don’t realize how long it’s been.
- He actually requires a lot of sleep, which is hard to get when you’re a 24/7 hospital aid. His room is extremely comfortable. California king so he can spread out, lots of blankets and pillows to burrow in, and nice dim lighting.
- The ritual made him see best in the dark. Bright lights for him are equivalent to complete darkness for normal people, so having a night light on in his room makes it darker for him.
- Cody’s his nurse/ assistant, so they are around each other a lot. He thinks his a little crazy, with all the deadly-viruses and whatnot, but he almost sees him as a little brother.
- Always has fresh flowers in his room. It’s a nice presence to have in his room.
- Only needs to eat about once every week or two. He tries to save up the organs he needs so he doesn’t have to go out and hunt for them.

The lung-cell type that’s most susceptible to infection by SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is not the one previously assumed to be most vulnerable. What’s more, the virus enters this susceptible cell via an unexpected route. The medical consequences may be significant. Stanford Medicine investigators have implicated a type of immune cell known as an interstitial macrophage in the critical transition from a merely bothersome COVID-19 case to a potentially deadly one. Interstitial macrophages are situated deep in the lungs, ordinarily protecting that precious organby, among other things, engorging viruses, bacteria, fungi and dust particles that make their way down our airways. But it’s these very cells, the researchers have shown in a study published online April 10 in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, that of all known types of cells composing lung tissue are most susceptible to infection by SARS-CoV-2. SARS-CoV-2-infected interstitial macrophages, the scientists have learned, morph into virus producers and squirt out inflammatory and scar-tissue-inducing chemical signals, potentially paving the road to pneumonia and damaging the lungs to the point where the virus, along with those potent secreted substances, can break out of the lungs and wreak havoc throughout the body.

Global Shutdown Imminent as WHO Declares VAHS a Global Pandemic
Thursday, October 1, 2063
…In a historic announcement today, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the outbreak of Vampiric Acute Hemorrhagic Syndrome (VAHS) a global pandemic. This declaration has sent shockwaves across the globe, prompting governments and health organizations to initiate unprecedented measures in an attempt to contain the spread of the deadly virus. VAHS, a highly contagious and fatal disease, has been rapidly spreading across multiple continents, causing widespread panic and overwhelming healthcare systems. The WHO has warned that without immediate and decisive action, the virus could result in catastrophic consequences. In response to the WHO's declaration, governments around the world have announced plans for a global shutdown in an effort to curb the spread of VAHS. This shutdown will entail stringent measures aimed at reducing social interactions and limiting the movement of people in order to minimize the risk of transmission. Public gatherings including…

Excerpts from the journal of Nathalie Wharton
October 20, 2063
… This isn’t like those old-school movies Mom and I used to watch when I was little. These vampires are real, and they don’t sparkle in the sunlight. Tara says that the older ones, the real vampires, don’t go crazy like the new ones do. I say they’re all the same. We’re leaving to go to the cabin tomorrow. Mom is worried that we’ll get stopped at the checkpoint and sent back because we’re technically in a quarantine zone, but Tara said the checkpoint south of the city fell last week.  There’s not much news. We’re the only family on the street now, and Tara’s radio doesn’t always work.  I’ll miss home, but maybe the woods would be nice…
October 25, 2063
… Tara was right, there was no one at the quarantine fence south of the city. The roads remind me of those zombie movies with abandoned cars on the side, full of stuff people left. Thankfully the National Guard cleared the road on the way up north. No one has driven this way since it looks like.  Dad keeps looking for Carriers but we haven’t seen any. It’s like humans don’t even exist out here anymore. Mom says it's because all of those infected have gone to the big cities where the human population is higher.  She said Memphis collapsed last week, with no radio signal going in or out but the screams can be heard for miles.  It’s hot all the time now. The air outside makes me feel breathless like that one time we went to Florida and it makes me tired. I’m going to miss Tara but the radio said there was a breakthrough on a vaccine.  I’m so tired…
October 26, 2063
… I had nightmares last night and could barely sleep. It is so hot in the car that it feels like my skin is on fire. Dad is making us ration our water and food. All I want is a cold shower to wash the sweat off and to not be starving. It’s just water. I just want to cool off.  We have two days until we get to the cabin…
October 27, 2063
… I hate this trip. I want to go home. It’s too hot down south and I’m hungry all the fucking time. Mom and Dad look at me like I’m crazy, but I just want to not be hungry. They won’t give me any more food.  I can’t sleep. It’s too hot. I’m too hot. Why is it so hot…
October 28, 2063
It’s too hot to write. I just want to go home. I’m hungry. I just want more food.
October 29, 2063
It’s so hot and I hate my fucking parents. They won’t let me eat more. I’m starving. I’m hot. It’s too hot.
October 30, 2063
I didn’t mean to kill them.

Bloodied note in abandoned warehouse, Columbus, Georgia
To whoever finds this note, Are humans still alive? I hope they are. If they’re not, I understand. They didn’t tell us that this would happen. They told us that it would be okay. It isn’t okay. It was never okay. They told us to stay inside and wash our hands as if that could ever stop the virus from spreading.  I’m alone now. Mom died in the first wave of the virus. Dad died a few weeks later after Mr. Johnson attacked and tore out his throat. Daniel and I made it to the quarantine center in Albany with his friends from high school, but a week after Atlanta fell the Rabids showed up and tore through the quarantine. Those older vampires - the ones not infected - they didn’t even help us. They just keep fighting each other in the big cities. Daniel died yesterday. He wasn’t even a Carrier. He just starved. I don’t have anything to bury him with, so I’m going to leave him here and hide him the best I can. The vampires won’t bother with dead blood. It’s the Rabids who will eat him but there aren’t so many away from the big cities.  I hope that Daniel forgives me for not giving him a proper grave.  I don’t want to starve like Daniel. I don’t want to keep walking either. My shoes are busted from running when we left the quarantine. I know we passed a canyon on the way here. I thought it might be a nice place to die. I’m going to go right before sunset so I can watch it one last time before I jump. I’m not afraid to-
