A Query of Edith Payne

In the sex-swapped Dead Boy Detectives we get the Dead Girl Detectives Edith Payne and Charlotte Rowland.

Now Edwin was in no uncertain terms bullied and ultimately killed for being a gender non-conforming "Mary Ann". That shaped his character greatly.

Now what if Edith was also bullied or outcast for being gender non-conforming? What if she was the difficult girl who cut her hair short or always broke dress code by wearing trousers (funnily enough that means she could still be styled just like Edwin).

The willful one too interested in the English suffragettes of the early 1900s (they were quite the combative group themselves). She would rebuff the expectation to marry on both the objection to being a man's property, and maybe more secretly to herself because she knows she only has feelings for other young women.

The girl who failed at being a proper young lady, and the boy who failed at being a proper young man.

All of this to say that even though I enjoy seeing a feminine Edith, I think there is great potential in butch Edith. A very handsome lady who was just a bit too ahead of her time, but with a fire inside that even decades in Hell couldn't extinguish.

Edith Payne might be uptight and off-putting and Charlie might be recklessly romantic, but neither of them are idiots. They wouldn’t have made it this far if they were.

No, to the public, Edith and Charlie are just two “best friends” who may or may not sneak in and out of each other’s mansions late at night. Who watch detective movies together and solve every mystery faster than the leads ever could. Who will definitely be taking home at least one Oscar between them if the Academy does its job right and doesn’t split the votes between them. (Who will be peeling each other out of these designer clothes and taking each other apart with tongues and fingernails and teeth after this award show.)

There is a life after death, Edith supposes. Anyone can start over, if they just find the right person to do it with, and they know just the way to summon the fake tears and Oscar-worthy acting to do so.

Honestly, the ghosts can feel other ghosts theory is very well supported, and I would like to share some proof shown during the season.

In episode 1, Charles clearly felt the other ghost (the WWI soldier, Wilfred) strangling him, he also got his face covered in that black liquid after he took the cursed mask off his face.

If ghosts could be able to play the same rules with other ghosts as they do with the living, Charles could have chosen to simply pass through Wilfred and seize the knife. However, he was unable to do so.

Also, during Episode 3, when that ghost's head exploded, Charles and Edwin were covered with the pieces of his ghostly brain, so I guess, fluids are other things that have their own rules when we talk about ghost-to-ghost interaction.

Sure these are not the prettiest of examples, but they support my point just fine. And I guess, it's good information for when you're writing... All sorts of fanfiction.
