Once again thinking about the rise and fall of the Akai family.
Little baby Akai who was his parents' pride and joy from the moment he was born.
Mary and Tsutomu boasting to all their friends about their son who at just a few months old is already showing signs of just how terrifyingly clever he is. He says his first word at just four months old, and by seven months he's talking in full sentences.
Baby Akai who was the spitting image of his mother in terms of looks and personality (minus the dark hair) but loved his father more than anyone in the world
He was always such a good boy. Reading his books and waiting patiently for his parents to come home every evening.
Four-year-old Akai learning that Shukichi is on his way and immediately taking his responsibilities as a big brother very seriously.
At nine years old, walking his baby brother to school for the first time, holding onto his hand tightly so Shukichi doesn't accidentally wander into traffic.
The brothers sneaking into their parent's room to wake them up on Christmas morning
Like all older siblings, he teased and pranked Shukichi all the time but would absolutely throw hands if anyone even looked at his baby brother the wrong way. At ten years old, he got his first suspension for beating one of his classmates into the ground after said classmate wouldn't stop mocking Shukichi, who was always a bit timid and didn't quite know how to stand up for himself yet.
He probably tried to teach Shukichi a few of the Jeet Kune Do moves he learned from Tsutomu because "you need to learn how to protect yourself in case I'm not there". The results were mixed at best, seeing as Shukichi really wasn't into learning martial arts, but Akai did at least manage to drill a few basic self-defense moves into his head.
Young Akai just living a normal, happy life.
And then his father disappears. And he doesn't come back.
His favorite person in the world is gone. And Akai can't just let that go. He needs to find out what happened, if only so that he can finally lay a ghost to rest.
So at just fifteen years old, he leaves behind everything and everyone he's ever known.
He goes to sleep in an unfamiliar bed. His parents don't come into his room to turn off his bedside lamp and take the book off his face that he fell asleep reading. His little brother doesn't wake him up at some ungodly hour in the morning telling him that he had a nightmare and asking if he can sleep with him for the rest of the night.
He tries to maintain contact, he really does. He misses his family so much it hurts. But he's busy with his life in America, and his mother and brother have their own things going on, and it's always been in his nature to withdraw when he's in any type of pain. So the phone calls, the letters, and the Christmas and birthday cards slowly start dwindling, little by little until one day they stop coming altogether.
He gets a baby sister, but he doesn't meet her for seven years. He treats her coldly at first, which is something that he'll regret for the rest of his life–he genuinely didn't mean anything by it, but his first interaction with his mother in years ended in a fight, so he was in a bad mood and unfortunately, little Masumi got the brunt of it.
And he still has his mission to worry about, so while he tries to be there for Masumi as much as possible, he can't be a big brother to her the way he was to Shukichi. He misses so much of her life and milestones, and most of the things Masumi knows about him are stories she's heard, either about his status as an ace sniper or his Jeet Kune Do prowess.
Sometimes, Akai wonders if she would still admire him if he had been a little more present in her life.
Now, Akai is 32 years old and still going to sleep in a place that isn't home. His father is still missing and is most likely dead. His brother isn't an Akai anymore. His sister is essentially living on the run with their mother, who was shrunk by the same drug that killed Haneda Kohji which led to their father being taken away, and both of them believe him to be dead.
His family was whole once.
Now, only time will tell if they can ever be that way again.

I usually talk a lot about Kogoro and Shinichi's bond, because they're precious to me, but recently I added to this pot Hattori, and lemme say that Kogoro now is about to go nuts because of the worry these two cause but he won't regret letting them in his heart.
it was all because of the screenshot of 523rd episode.
Tumblr media
let's put it in 11k words!
papa-Kogoro steps in. Shinichi needs more help than he thinks. Heiji chooses to trust his friend and realizes that he's more welcomed than he thought in the Mouri's family.

Ok, Future AU, Married Hakukai Headcanon that Hakuba gets a bad reputation at work because his colleagues see him leaving with different young men/women every other day and none of them were his husband. Everyone gossips about it but no one dare say anything because, well, he's the Superintendent General's son and the golden boy (along with Shinichi) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police force.
When he eats lunch at the Precinct cafeteria, he could hear whispers as people walk pass:
"He's so handsome and incredibly smart, but I heard he's the cheating type."
"Eh, really? I guess you can't have it all. He has the look, the brain, the money, too bad he turned out to be a complete scoundrel."
"Right? His poor husband! I saw him leaving the station the other day with a gorgeous redhead. The day before that was a leggy blonde..."
And meanwhiles, at their table, Shinichi turns to Hakuba and is like:
"Aren't you gonna at least try to dispel the rumors?"
Hakuba just shrugs:
"What would I tell them? That my husband has a near inhumane ability to shape shift? That I knowingly married KID the Phantom Thief?"
Shinichi narrows his eyes at his colleague's stupid fond smile for a brief moment before concluding, annoyed:
"You're enjoying the chaos, aren't you? Jesus, you two are exactly alike!"
Lunch goes on like normal after that. Shinichi is very tired of this pair.

Canonically, the teen detectives and Kaitou Kid are famous, so I can understand why someone would headcanon that, in universe, there would be detective/thief RPF of them. But... I disagree.
People believe that KID is much older than Kaito is in reality. So I don't think (much) RPF of them would exist, but there is another person known for chasing KID for years, someone people could easily write fanfic about...
That's right, in universe I bet there is a bunch of Kaitou Kid/Nakamori Ginzou RPF and the both hate this with a passion that cannot be expressed in words.

I think it’s really funny of the Kudo/Kuroba parents to have twins and name one of them Masterpiece while the other one have Thief in his name 😭 Yusaku really is the golden youngest child ever since he was born huh.

so I had a little thought about kaito absolutely despising coffee, especially if it's straight black, without milk or cream or anything. he doesn't like the smell of fresh coffee beans and that's what makes him not like visiting cafés most of the time.
he likes nicer, sweeter scents, like vanilla, chocolate or caramel, he's even fine with peppermint.
he only starts tolerating the smell of coffee after meeting shinichi, the moment they're up close the smell of coffee just attacks him, it's like a scent that's attached to shinichi and he starts associating it to him.
he's so hopelessly in love that he starts loving the scent, he'd never drink straight black coffee like shinichi does, but as soon as he smells it, he just knows shinichi is near by.
it grows onto him as a comfort scent and even buys coffee beans to keep in his kitchen, not to drink, but to remind him for shinichi when they can't see one another for long periods of time.
i hc that kaito uses vanilla scented products, like his shampoo or shower gel. which in return shinichi grows to be fond of and buys a vanilla scented candle to remind him of the other.

Somehow a thought of "Kaito looks through Pandora but something weirdly cognitive happens instead of just it glowing red" sparked off "P4 crossover: just how fucked is Kaito if he wound up on the Midnight Channel?"
Like... Shinichi, if he was thrown in, would have the element of "most of the population would think that's sci-fi/fantasy, not real life, and laugh it off if they saw" but if even a handful of random people saw something that had Kuroba Kaito blatantly admitting to being Kid? His life would be SHAMBLES. It would be OVER for him.
Part of me thinks that'd be a fun thing to play with, but part of me's just... I'd want the concept of the dungeon maybe, but with not just the Investigation Team but also that if say, Hakuba and/or Aoko were there too, the IT wouldn't need to bother with hearing details, because that'd be sorted. They'd see one showing, if that, depending on the weather.
Heck, maybe Kaito would be particularly infuriating, spy on random people, see the killer saying or doing something he really shouldn't be, and he gets shoved in without any planning. Maybe the first show doesn't even give all that much away - but the moment anyone who's In The Know sees the silhouette of Kid, they start realising that this is potentially the worst case scenario and start moving really quickly.
I've always thought Kaito's persona would be something like an alternate read on Arsène Lupin, because of course it would, and would probably look closer to his dad in Kid's outfit than anything else. As for elements? Probably Bless.
And of course Shadows aren't the nice things you repress, so... it'd be everything Kaito keeps hidden under his Poker Face; the trauma of losing his dad, the fear of losing everyone he cares about to secrets, the fear of being arrested and killed, the fact that this is a vigilante revenge trip for him, so some part of him would want to make these people suffer for what they've done to his dad, and what they want to do to him, the way he doesn't trust detectives...
Shadow Kaito saying hurtful things like wait, you think I care about Aoko? She's just a useful means to an end, at this point, I wouldn't put up with her otherwise and I much prefer it when Hakuba's away because who wants someone like that coming after you? It's no wonder he doesn't have any friends if that's how he is but also I'm better off on my own, aren't I? So what if the detectives have all the connections - the more people who know who you are, the more can screw you over in the end.
Kaito refusing all of it and denying it and the others having to fight a terrifying monstrous Kid-a-like Shadow that makes them attack their teammates and puts them to sleep and hurts them, which is going to end up in Kaito's nightmares.
His Shadow being defeated and now... now it's not a scary and angry and spewing hate, it's just small and fully expecting to be pushed away, because that's what he does to other people, and... Kaito has to go up, and accept it.
Accept that yeah, he has used Aoko like that more than he should have. That yeah, he's let his fear of Hakuba just doing the detective thing and turning him in blind him to the fact that the guy is also just lonely and in need of friends. And... yeah, he hasn't been trying to connect with others as much as he could.
They go back to Ekoda and everyone's wondering what the heck even happened, because Kaito is different. Not a bad different - he seems kind of happier and more confident. But definitely changed.

Kaito is a Latin mom cleaning
just listen, kaito is definitely that kind of person. The louder the music, the cleaner the house is, right?
kaito would put on some latin pop to leave the kudo mansion as newly built
I also imagine it with bachata but that is for another hc
There were two songs that triggered this in my head: casate conmigo by Nicky Jam and Silvestre Dangond y despasito by luis fonsi (how many years has it been since I heard it? I was still in primary school, damn it) and honorable mentions like felices los 4, bailando and even limbo*! (*by daddy yankee)
Although I am a believer that Kaito has his Shakira and Sebastian Yatra playlists

I headcanon Shinichi as not a morning person at all. he's grumpy in the early morning, already annoyed, very gloomy and refuses to talk until he gets his cup of coffee and some news.
and Hattori, unaware of that fact, is extremely WORRIED. not because something wrong with Kudo, but because he, Hattori, did something wrong and offended Kudo. he tries to figure out what the hell he did, million assumptions, million written apologies, dang, he's driven NUTS.
and then like. 9 AM.
Kudo turns to him, cup of coffee is empty, newspaper is neatly folded, and starts TALKING TO HIM AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. he talks, he asks, he behaves like usual, and Hattori wonders if this cursed hour was just his hallucination. he's relieved, for sure, but what the heck was that?
Ran later watches him and Kudo, and she seems pretty comfortable with Kudo being upset with something. Ran notices his nervous attempts to get closer to Kudo to talk to him and all, and whispers:
"Hattori, he's a night owl."
Hattori chooses to scream in despair in the yard of Kudo's manor. because, ya know, Kudo hates sounds in the morning. and Hattori refuses to be on the bad side of Kudo.
(he's a Kudo-pleaser. not people-pleaser, but Kudo-pleaser.)

Y'all who was going to tell me that the "Subaru" in "Okiya Subaru" is legitimately the same kanji as the car brand? And while in disguise, Akai drives a Subaru??
Imagine Akai needing to find a name after faking his death, and a la "Edogawa Conan" naming style, looks at this new car he got for his cover and is like excellent that's my name now. This headcanon now lives rent free in my head.

I'd like to think that at one point in Takagi's life, he snaps
Like just straight up threaten someone or just start screaming in anger, cursing every single swear word he knows and probably destroy something within his vicinity or reach.
I mean the Sato Fanclub (Which is kinda weird and disturbing to me to have a fanclub with almost all of the men in your department about you like Sato girl how are you not concerned about this?) probably tormented Takagi since it is clear that they are weary and dislike him cus he's not in the club, works with Sato and to top it all off has a crush on her.
Like messing with his files, tripping him on purpose, pranks (the younger colleagues probably), talking bad about him behind his back or near him purposefully, embarrassing him in front of Sato or Megure and etc.
I'd like to think that on one particular day in his life everything went wrong for him like a bad morning, coming late to work, misplaced files, dealing with sh*tty criminals that make you want to kill them personally and adding with his colleagues torment he just snaps
He probably was being belittled by Shiratori and some other colleagues and just went 'OKAY FUCK THIS SHIT I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF B*LLSH*T FOR TODAY', straights up walks over to Shiratori grabs his tie to pull him down to his height and goes, "Listen here Shiratori. I would beat the absolute sh*t out of you with my bare hands then with my gun and bury you six feet under, if it weren't for the fact that I am a police detective, you're an inspector and we're in the department right now."
Then he just goes about his sh*tty day leaving everyone bewildered and a slightly terrified Shiratori behind.
Or at one point he goes to a rage room and ya know rages
