I think it’s really funny of the Kudo/Kuroba parents to have twins and name one of them Masterpiece while the other one have Thief in his name 😭 Yusaku really is the golden youngest child ever since he was born huh.

The Meaning of Names

So  Yuu_Blameitonnosleep on AO3 wrote Kuroba Kaito as ‘Kaitou’ up ‘til now. I wanted to write her a review but since I’m a lingustic student and a bit of a language nerd, I went a bit on a rant and relocated it to here. If you actually speak Japnese and what I’m talking about here is utter bullshit, please tell me - I’d love if someone would talk to me about this.

Now, commencing with the mentioned rant on the meaning of the name of Kuroba Kaito

I'm not sure if you are actually interested in this but because you quoted  that wiki and I'm a complete language nerd, here we go (just ignore me if you don't care, it's not like I'm even an expert in this): No, 'Kaito' doesn't actually mean 'kite', that would be the same as saying 'Kuroba' means 'clover' or that 'Shin’ichi' means 'one truth'. The meaning of Japanese names come from the kanji used to write them - in Kaito's case 快斗. 斗 (On reading: to/tô) is the kanji for the star sign Ursa Major aka the Big Dipper and 快 (On reding: kai) means something like cheerful, pleasant, comfortable (not sea or ocean, that's a different kanji even if it'd be immensely funny if Kaito's name was spelled with that one, considering his fear of fish). The japanese word for 'kite' is in fact 'kaito' in romanji (latin letters), but it's spelled with a different kanji (凧). So not only is Kaito's name a word play on his occupation as kaitou (怪盗) but also on kite (凧) at the same time. Aoyama-sensei sure loves his puns and word plas even outside of cases. It's actually the same with Kuroba: The kanji used (黒羽) mean black feather but in romanji it's a homonym for clover, hence the black clover charm on his monocle.

That Shin’ichi is a pun as well shouldn’t be news to anyone (he uses the pun as one of his catch phrases, damn it) but if you didn’t know, here we go:  

Shinichi's given name is a pun on "one truth". The "ichi" (一) means "one" and "shin" can be read as truth (真), however the kanji actually used for "shin" (新) in Shinichi's name means "new"
