I have the craziest fic idea, and it's been sitting as brain rot in my head. It's one of those "the fic no one asked for and no one needed" ideas.

Spongebob Squarepants crossover with Detroit: Become Human.

You're probably wondering: "r-ate-9, How could that possibly make a good fic?" WELL. PICTURE THIS:

Connor magically transports to Bikini Bottom. Cue Spongebob physics where water doesn't affect anyone except Sandy

He learns it's full of anthropomorphic sea creatures that could care less what he looks like

Plankton finds him and takes him home to meet Karen, knowing she'll enjoy having a robot friend (secretly Connor is impressed by Plankton's acceptance of robots)

While Connor refuses to assist plankton in his evil schemes of stealing the krabby patty secret formula "I'm a police officer" he does follow along to see what plankton is doing

he meets Mr. Krabs who has a 100% vocal match to Lt. Anderson (that's impossible, the only way it could be possible would be if Hank is Mr. Krabs)

they also share a similarity through their love of unhealthy burgers

Connor tries to figure out who Mr. Krabs is (Spbob tells krabs he sounds like a human ashore, and krabs thinks that means he's a celebrity, and celebrities make $$$)

Somehow, Connor manages to video call Hank from underwater, and Hank thinks he's tripping on drugs, but it's a shared hallucination with Reed, and there ain't no way he did shrooms with Reed

Hank and Krabs have a stare down while Connor freaks out that their voices are exactly the same

I was trying to figure out why Neil Newbon's voice was so familiar to me and I just learned from his imdb that he was both Elijah Kamski and Gavin Reed in Detroit: Become Human.

Harvey Bullock and Hank Anderson are literally the same person just in different universes.

Okay hear me out. Alcoholic detective who gets a new partner who is the main character. The two are often shipped together. He starts up disliking his partner but by the end of the story they are very close. The partner is ambitious and bold and gets themselves into trouble all for the sake of justice even if it means they get hurt or potentially die. And they kinda just have to deal with their partners recklessness.

Plus they look similar. They literally look so god damn similar.

DE – :Kim and Harry: Procreate on iPad Pro

So I recently finished Disco Elysium after the Director's Cut became available on the PS Plus Game Catalog. I've wanted to play it for a few years, and was excited to finally see what all the hype was about. First of all, it was NOT what I expected, in the sense that I usually play more action-based games, so playing a narrative RPG was really a different experience. Secondly, WHAT an interesting universe this game takes place it... I think I loved it because it was essentially a Sherlock AU, with a neurodivergent player character and his stoic and long-suffering partner, solving a really interesting case... (GUYS they even had a Three-Garridebs-style moment in it!!!). And thirdly, GOSH the voice actors in the director's cut REALLY makes the game super special. Kim's voice is yummy, please read me the dictionary, sir 🙃

AND THEN THERE'S THE TWO PROTAGS. OMG I LOVE them so much. Kim is my little mew mew, I love him so, SO much. I love Kim and Harry's dynamic (if you play the game so that Kim trusts you) and some of the best one liners in my playthrough came from him, LOL. Just, ugh, I now see what all the hype was about for this game when it came out. And of course I inevitably shipped them, as is my way, and I was SO UPSET that I couldn't romance Kim, LOL. Sad that a second game probably won't ever happen (after reading about what happened behind the scenes, anyway), but I've immersed myself for the past 3 months in the DE fanfic rabbit hole, OMG. I'm so obsessed. It prompted me to then, of course, want to draw them. So here we are.

Not my best at all, but more just I was itching to draw them so much and I got this one done faster than anything I SHOULD be working on these days, LOL. I hope you'll excuse my burning needs, hahha. If it wasn't for that other stuff I have to get done, I probably would have a huge backlog of DE fanart like I do with DBH and Moon Knight, hahahhaha.

Anyhoo, Kim and Harry, best cop duo on this side of Revachol, LOL. I will absolutely be drawing them again once I'm done my FTH pieces! This is my current hyperfixation and I am very happy about it LOL

Detroit: become Human antis fascinate me. "If you ship Connor/Hank you're a pedo", I expected. Pedo is to an anti as communism/socialism is to a conservative, a buzzword to throw at everything you dislike. "Connor/Markus is bad because you're fetishizing interracial couples", I was not expecting, since... well, they're not really any given race. They're modeled on their voice actors, but they're androids, and in-universe that's very much the line along which they're socially stratified. They're the same race. "Markus/North is bad because you're fetishizing interracial relationships AND North is an abuse victim so you're fetishizing 'rescue romances' AND you're saying women need a man!" Actually I just think it'd be cute for North/Markus/Connor to be a thing and for her to be supportive and sweet and everybody's loving, tough, cool lady partner, I wasn't thinking about... any of that, honestly. "Connor/Kara is bad because you're taking away from her accomplishments as an independent woman and making her story about men!" Oh cool I didn't know women could have a storyline OR a relationship but not both, meanwhile men can have both.

And yet all the actual flaws of the text - and there are so, so many - just sail over their heads. Their whole thing is that they're totally not in a cult or obsessed with ships, they're into social justice. Yet they don't have a word to say on the way the text tackles race, oppression, abuse, etc. It's just about how your ship is bad but their preferred ship isn't.

In the end I think DbH antis are what snapped me out of my anti tendencies. Both of my siblings are antis, so you'd think I would've been bound to go that route, but seeing how every single pairing was viewed as an indicator of something horrible inside you reminded me a lot of the fire-and-brimstone preachers we have here in the South. Everything is evil, everything is an indicator you're bad, you're shit, you're terrible, repent now of your sin/ship.

In the end all it did was make me support everybody's ships. I don't do ship wars. We're all "problematic" to someone. I support whatever you're doing. (So long as you're not an asshole.)

It really is stark with DBH. It's so easy to find things to criticize legitimately. Many of them are even social justice things.

LAZZO?!

I'm thrilled to accounce that the next new film from Octopunk follows your fav street kid, Lazzo Fratello, in an original new adventure. And this one's built and animated in Unreal Engine.

The short follows Lazzo on a quest to obtain a new arm for his android girlfriend Tayla, even if it means stealing one. It's funny, it's romantic, it's a lil bit heisty, and it also introduces in original new (not DBH) cyberpunk world for Lazzo to occupy - the canals and chaos of Neo-Charleston.

I'm thrilled to collaborate with MJ Slide as my 1st AD/other half of my genius, and Neil Newbon as our Performance Capture Director! I've wanted to do motion capture for nearly a decade, and I could think of no one better to guide me and the actors thru the process.

And of course JJ returns as the voice, likeness, and performance capture of Lazzo - cause who else could fill those neon shoes!

You know, for someone who has been described to have "garnered the hatred of his colleagues in record time", the game didn't really show a great job of it.

Yeah, Gavin does act in a way that makes this believable but when it comes to his interactions with others, it doesn't really show.

Tina is, at the very least, on good terms with him considering that she sits with him in the lunch room, listens to his story, doesn't speak up at all if he hits Connor and even follows Gavin when he leaves.

Chris also is shown to have no problem with him. He doesn't chastise Gavin when Gavin says "we could always try roughing it up a little", Gavin steps into defend him when Connor pulls Chris away from Shaolin and at the Eden Club, Chris doesn't say anything when Gavin mocks Graham and doesn't step in to defend Hank against Gavin's comment about his drinking even though Chris respects Hank.

Also, his description says "Ruthlessly ambitious, Reed will do anything to advance his career, even if it means treading on other peoples’ toes". I could see Gavin being like this to people low on the dpd totem poll, people he most likely will never speak to again but after seeing his interactions with Tina and Chris, I don't believe that Gavin could even do anything negative to them just to further his own goals.

I just find it interesting that in theory, Gavin was supposed to be this hated, deplorable and "evil" character but the more and more I've been delving into him, his actions and scenes throughout dbh, I honestly believe that they did a poor job of displaying him as the douchebag people are supposed to believe he is.

They only did a good job at making him "evil" to ppl with one brain cell.

As for the rest of us who practice critical thinking, we need more to go on. Unfortunately... it seems as if there are very few of us. I find that depressing. If anything, everyone at the DPD just seems to stay out of his way instead of scowling at him in disgust. There's no display of "hatred" or "fear" there. It's more like mild dislike for some and apathy for others.

One can argue that Chris and Ti are just passive ppl incapable of standing up for themselves -- that they just go along with whatever Gav is saying and/or doing at any point -- but it's been proven false.

Chris outright stands up for himself when Gav is telling him to get Shaolin moving in The Interrogation. Gav doesn't give him any shit for doing that. If he was so "evil," he'd tear Chris a new one after that, but Gav accepts his answer and just stays (impatiently) quiet.

Ti is very blunt and not laying herself flat when Markus mimics the dispatch lady in Capitol Park + questions said dispatch.

EDIT 01/30/2024: On a rewatch -- I was recording voice lines for a project -- I also noticed that Ti literally smiles amused for a moment looking at Con before she leaves the break room. Her initial reaction was uncertainty opening her mouth as if to say something (bc she didn't look surprised) when Gav decked him in the thirium pump regulator, but then she smiled.

Nearly impossible to dislike a person with Neil Newbon's charisma unless it's out of spite for the ppl who do like them and/or the actors/writers, etc. Gav being "hated" by the precinct doesn't make much sense in theory. Neil was too charismatic for the casting, lol. I'm glad he got the role regardless as few can pull off what he did.

If was an og design, in who they're inspired? Did it had AI help to computer the % of "attractiveness"?
