im fully aware that i need to stop forcing myself to engage with every new sonic thing immediately and finish it as quickly as possible . im working on that. but why did my first time having to actively practice being okay with being a little late to a major new sonic thing end up being a game i was looking forward to way more than any of the other new or upcoming sonic projects from the past year or so . tragic
#well i guess i didnt just now start having to do this ive been Pretending I Do Not See It with the movie stuff for a little while now#but thats differenttttt#funny how when the sonic generations remaster got leaked i was like ummmm. literally who cares#and then when it came out that shadow was gonna be majorly involved i was apprehensive#but the first trailer immediately changed my mind and i screamed in surprise/excitement when i saw dooms eye#and my excitement only grew more and more as time went on ...#i still dgaf about the sonic generations remaster part though sorry#anyway. at least i know my copy of the game + journal are safe and waiting for me when i get back#for reference i have been watching/reading/playing like every new sonic thing immediately when it comes out since like 2018#the only things ive missed i think are a couple spinoff comics that didnt catch my interest but i did read most of them eventually#and also games that were rereleases that didnt add enough new content for me to wanna buy them#so being 2 whole days late to a new sonic game . on top of not getting early access. painful

one of my most favorite pet peeves is when someone talks about an old edgy game and is like "its a shame because you couldn't just make that nowdays it would NEVER have been allowed its a shame how we've fallen" but like you get to look at them in comparison to things we have now that are actively even more grusome than ever. People say manhunt couldn't be released today because its too brutal but then the last of us has some extra brutal executions too, and don't even get me started on how the MK series is nowadays. "they would have to censor the story so heavily today so im glad [blank] came out years ago" they say, as some weren't already censored to tone it down- a perfect example of that is always going to be Twisted Metal Black where they changed up Raven's, Dollface's, Agent Stone's, Preacher's, John Doe's story to simmer them all down and lighten the blow, expunging certain levels ambient sounds because the implications of domestic violence, and the changing of No-face's surgical cutscene to make it not as explicitly nasty and meanwhile modern games have been actively stepping it up to be even worse.
"Games are just too prudish nowdays we couldnt even get another ghostly desires LOL" and meanwhile the front page to steam is literally littered with hentai games. that do not hide the lewd and raunchy screenshots. sometimes its a freshly creampied pussy in your face. yeah that. Im sorry but there's so much god damn porn games that are available to buy and some of it is mainstream even (Huniepop for instance).
Back in the day NightTrap was rated as an Adult game. Now? It's T for teen because how tame it kinda is. We're not as prudish or pearlclutchy on literally any of these points as we used to be and thank fucking god for that- but literally take off the nostolgia goggles cause its fuckin blinding you sweetie
#i remember the panic that came out about games like doom and how violent they were#so many hackles were raised and it was so scandalous#the newest ones are even more so and there's hardly a peep#gta was certainly contreversial back in its day but especially 3 set off shit like you would not believe but 5 actively pushes way past it#and there's less about it now- ffs the hot coffee made it back into the remasters by accident#and despite knowing that there was even less of a hubub this time of round for San andreas than back then#literally so few care about that now#but even CoD is getting more graphic than it and so many other games are too#gta just doesnt have its oomph anymore#and i wanna say that's a good thing because there's more artistic freedom with that#but we can't just be so deluded as to pretend we've not gotten heavier about all of this#because we have and it really shows#none of the old contreversial series seem near as bad now when half of everything is rivaling it#ballad of gay tony showed dick and everyone was so up in arms about it#in numbers we couldnt even see for Outlast Whistleblower for seeing a man's dick chopped off and him split open to make a birthing statue#and that is so fucking wild??

new story idea! are yall in?
You’ve always wanted a close knit friend group. Your entire life, it seems like you’ve spent longing for one. And one day, you believe you’ve found it! Only for your world to be completely turned topsy turvy when they not so accidentally sacrifice you during a camping trip gone wrong.
Suddenly you wake up and it’s 2013 again. Flappy Bird is the hottest new game, everyone is doing the Harlem Shake, and vines and dodge memes are the pinnacle of humor. Mustaches and Chevron are everywhere, and "Keep Calm and blah blah blah" sayings are on everything.
You don’t remember much from this year, but everything seems a little off. It’s like everything is a little to the left. You take it as nostalgia clouding your memory and decide to just coast along. You'll invest in bitcoin and become a youtuber or something. Everything is going perfect, your plan aligning until your first day at your new high school that your 'not parent' parents enrolled you in. It's been a couple of months of you working non-stop at Starbucks, you're feeling established, you even got a cute owl necklace to be fashion backwards forward! The day itself was going well, until a slightly younger Sam Giddings is giving you a mini tour of the school.
Oh shit.
You were desperate for a friend group, yes. But not THAT desperate. They barely even like each other! Most of them ended up dead in your playthroughs, and it was basically at the hands of their friends! Every. Single. Time.
Well, except that one time with the remaster. You somehow managed to keep everyone alive. Not a great track record though! Especially if you somehow got thrown into this now VERY real life weird game mix.
It should be obvious how to avoid calamity here, there’s even a few options! Beg your 'not parent' parents to transfer you to another school? Okay that was a fail, its only been two days of the semester, but fear not, there’s other ways to avoid certain death! Beg your counselor to switch your classes? This one works a little TOO good, and now all of your classes have at least one cast member in them. Your last hope is to ignore and avoid them, entirely denying their existence in the first place. You think that it'll be easy enough...
Except you never stood a chance. Not when Sam looks at you with that amused quirk of her lip when you trip over your words as her lab partner. Not when Jess hits your arms incessantly as she laughs at your sarcastic responses. And certainly not when Josh throws his arm around your shoulder, treating you like he’s known you for years despite your short time together. These guys were crazy! They were insane in the game! Why are they growing on you? This just doesn't make sense!
Except it does.
Because here’s the thing:
If the universe was working overtime to send you here through your possibly a cult old friend group, maybe this is life’s weird way of answering your years of tears and begging for a group of people to love and be loved back by.
And there's nothing wrong with that! You're allowed to have some fun in your life!!! You can totally just cruise on by with them, go to a few parties and sleepovers here and there, then say no to the lodge hangouts. Maybe you’ll visit your 'not grandma' grandma across the country?
Except that plan becomes doomed as well. Very inconveniently, your 'not grandma' grandma dies a month before your planned visit. Your 'not parent' parents are heading out of town that weekend for their anniversary. And possibly the most damming and inescapable of all, you’ve grown quite attached to the Washington sisters.
How could you, in good conscience, leave them to their fate without at least trying to save them? These people, YOUR friends, who you’ve exchanged hearts with? You’ve got to at least attempt it. That's what friends do!
So hit the gym! And take up a weird outdoorsy sport or two. There’s roughly 6 months until the events of the prologue take place, and you aren’t going down without a fight.

The Possible New Future of the Sonic Franchise - Thanks to fucking Sonadow

WOW! SO…THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED 💀
A few days ago it was rumored a Sonic Generations remaster was happening and will be revealed in the State of Play, which then revealed Shadow will be playable. It was really unknown what the hell this meant, but many theorized this was going to be a Bowser’s Fury/Kirby Return case: Game from an old console is remastered/ported with a whole brand new campaign that may or may not be related and possibly intertwined with said game’s story or lore.
They were correct.

Oh yea did I forget to mention BLACK FUCKING DOOM IS BACK?????

There isn’t much yet to go off of right now in terms of what’s being planned here besides this excerpt on steam

————————————————
Alright, enough showcasing, what the hell am I talking about by this game (that was just revealed) being a new future for the Sonic franchise? Well, it’s mainly due to these two things: the usage of Black Doom, and this fucking logo

A little bit of a history lesson -
Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)
….wasn’t really a well received game. Besides how many viewed it to be trying too hard to be edgy and dark and gritty, its gameplay was a lot left to be desired. Confusing and lore retconning writing, weird awkward gameplay, you probably already know by now, it was arguably where SEGA/Sonic Team got scared of doing spin-offs with other characters. The concepts and ideas were there, there were still reasons to like the game and like how Shadow improves as a character in the canonical story of the game, it was a small shiny stone in a pile of coal. Besides 06, this was the most development or focus Shadow would ever receive as a character before his massive change in writing in 2010.
Due to the 2010s change in writing style and how characters were written thanks to SEGA to avoid any association from “erm Sonic tried to be serious at one point? Cringe!”, Shadow possibly became the most controversial character of the cast, with him going from a really intriguing 3 dimensional character about trauma, loss, and trying to move on from the past, to many feeling like he’s regressed into a Furry Vegeta or a tryhard loner who doesn’t need friends to help him, the IDW comics being a big example of this. He still had a few good moments like his whole prologue in Sonic Forces, but even then it wasn’t anything intriguing like his story in Sonic 06 where he learns to accept his future might turn out shit, but he’ll always fight back with his team if things get dark (see what I did there?).
Before I continue, I would like to say - blaming Ian Flynn for how Shadow’s written in the IDW comics where he’s more brute and moody…..doesn’t seem correct, imma be real. I know he may have the occasional odd idea of the characters, but it’s very clear the way he’s written is due to certain mandates from SEGA and how characters/the world should be like. If Shadow’s whole moody brute demeanor is truly how Flynn views the character…..how does that explain how he was written in the Archie comics? aka the older comic series Flynn wrote for before SEGA started to get strict with the franchise, aka the series many believe to have had really great Shadow moments? I’m not saying there can’t be criticism for how Flynn may sometimes write characters, but in the case of him being the sole reason for how Shadow is written, that assumption made on him is a lil unfair.
Regardless, in recent times, it’s no doubt that the franchise is starting to rebuild it’s confidence again: acknowledging the old 3D games, including 06, having a more serious story with layers and depth like in Frontiers, Frontiers itself reintroducing Sonic’s friends and their struggles, making them playable once again in a 3D game (again, Shadow was cool to see in Forces but, you could only go so far with a simple reskin of Sonic). Not to mention after the update that brought back these characters, we got Sonic Superstars where the main selling point was that it was a co-op game, and Sonic Dream Team having a focus on the franchise’s more forgotten character: Cream the Rabbit (not to mention bringing back a sorta SA2-style gameplay where 6 characters were grouped into 3 styles of controls). Oh yea also prior to all that, Amy was made playable in the original Sonic genesis games via Sonic Origins.
———————————————
So, what does all that have to do with the future of the franchise, and why is Shadow 05 important here?
First off: Shadow is getting that same treatment as other friends, but possibly on an even bigger level: being a new playable character in an older title and being a big enough deal to get his own story and reintroduce people to what makes him who he is sadly no co-op gameplay but hey that would require completely changing this game from what it was initially was. This is really perfect timing as with the upcoming release of Sonic Movie 3 and Shadow being the next foe for Sonic to face off, Sonic x Shadow Generations will be a perfect title for new fans to dive into and learn more about Sonic’s history and dive further into Shadow’s history, just like what Sonic Origins was for fans who just came back from watching Sonic Movie 2.
This whole thing is also a massive implication that other characters than Sonic may start to get their own campaigns again, building more lead-ups to possibly full on spinoff games. I should say this again: Forces did try to do something with Shadow, but for the most part it was just reusing whatever the game already had to create a quick and easy 3 level prologue that…doesn’t really add all that much to the overall story (at this rate you can probably assume Forces tried to do a lot of things Sonic is now attempting to do, however due to the kinda era it came from, it didn’t have much going for it). Sonadow Generations seems like something bigger and more personal to the character involved, something that could possibly rival the OG game’s campaign.
The fact in this story, they’re going so far as to make Black Doom the main antagonist of this campaign and giving back Shadow’s tribal logo is a massive sign that this is a true attempt to revisit Shadow’s entire legacy. They could’ve easily just made his whole ordeal involve what happened in Sonic Adventure 2, after all that’s what he’s most remembered for, but going as far as to properly acknowledged a lesser known game as being part of the Sonic lore instead of dismissing it simply because it wasn’t well received, it continues to show the confidence this series has started to regain. Sure, it’s weird, it’s wacky, it’s wild, but it doesn’t make it any less something to acknowledge or at the very least make good out of something bad. While we did get hints of Shadow 05 still being part of the canon via the Eggman logs in Frontiers mentioning Black Doom, having him come back officially was still a completely wild thing to see; never in a million years would anyone have thought he would come back as the main villain.
The biggest part of this whole thing is: if SEGA is allowing for Shadow 05 to be fully acknowledged
.
this might mean they’re starting to pull back on their restrictions on the character.
——————————————
As I stated before, it is very clear they wanted nothing to do with this game or anything similar to it ever again, I mean the fact we never got any spin-offs after this really shows they weren’t gonna come back to other characters ever again. But now…everything’s on the table. If Black Doom is making an appearance, if Shadow’s tribal logo is back as part of his identity, what else could there be next? Will Shadow start to use guns again? Will he ride his motorcycle, and other vehicles like in 06? Hell, will motherfucking Mephiles come back again for this campaign?
Not to mention the description of the game stated that Shadow will confront painful memories, will we see Maria in HD getting shot, or the commander from Shadow 05 who was out to get him making a reappearance? This might be the first time in a whole decade since other human characters (not counting Sage since she isn’t exactly fully human) making an appearance again in the Sonic franchise. Again, we may have gotten hints of them still being a thing with the likes of Frontiers’ Eggman logs bringing up GUN and Maria, but actually showing up in-game means other humans can still make appearances in-game.
(Take this part with a massive grain of salt but I’ve heard that Ian Flynn in the past has expressed he wanted to bring back Black Doom and Mephiles, but SEGA didn’t allow it, now that one of them happened, it proves that there indeed has been less restrictions now)
If there are less restrictions being made on stuff like acknowledging Shadow’s game, what could this mean for how Shadow himself may be written now? We’ve seen how apparently well written Shadow was in Sonic Prime, could this carry over to the games and comics where he has a less frustrating depiction? I mean, the fact Ian Flynn was hired for one massive mainline game (Sonic Frontiers) and suddenly they’re doing all these lore related things for the franchise or going back to pull up any old stuff and see what they can do with it, it shows there is a level of trust between SEGA and Flynn and letting the man cook. And it makes complete sense too, he’s been a long time writer for the franchise since the Archie comics, he seems to have a great understanding of the characters.
If Shadow 05 is getting this level of acknowledgement, what about other more forgotten games? Will we one day see Sonic 06 be better acknowledged, or more likely a character like Silver having a bigger role in something related to the events of 06? I mean for some reason recent episode titles of the upcoming Knuckles show revealed one episode called “Flames of Disaster,” who’s to say they aren’t already looking into 06 for some ideas for not just the movie canon, but as well as the main canon?

—————————————
I’m drifting off a little but I’m sure you get by now what I’m tryna say. This game, as it may seem like just a simple small remaster with extra content, may end up creating something bigger for the franchise going forward. Seeing how Sonic Team is behind this remaster and not Blind Squirrel (the people who made Sonic Colors Ultimate; while possibly rushed by SEGA, they’ve also have had a questionable track record with remasters), and hints that Flynn is behind this story, I think we are in great hands with this game. This may be the first remaster to finally be flawless in every level, which I know is a little sad to say when it comes to this 30+ year old franchise, but hey, can’t win them all!
——————————————
Before I end this comically large essay, I would like to make one final note on this whole topic. As I was writing this and taking breaks last night, I came across a tweet that was kinda starting to go around about this game.
To summarize, the tweet essentially claimed that Sonic was still stuck in the past. The franchise was still relying on nostalgia pandering as its identity, and due to the contents of Generations being a whole celebration of Sonic’s history (and what unfortunately started SEGA’s cling onto Green Hill and Chemical Plant), aka alleged nostalgia pandering, it proves the franchise’s identity is still about how when Sonic used to be cool. It hasn’t attempted to evolve in the past 14 years.
You can probably guess what my thoughts on that take is after reading this whole post.
.
.
.
.
.
No.
I don’t think so.
As I already showed, the addition of Shadow’s story more than proves this is still stepping forward. It’s taking an old beloved game and instead of just updating graphics or performance and leaving it at that, they’re making something brand new out of it that may define future ideas for other characters that isn’t about Sonic. Not to mention this game barely attempts to be all like, “Revisit all these iconic locations from your childhood!!!” SEGA is clearly looking at Generations not as that one game they can rely on for easy nostalgia pandering, but as a successful and fun game from the last decade in its own right. I mean to the general public, it’s considered to be “one of the few good Sonic games.”
It can be argued that the addition of Shadow and Black Doom may be pandering to the audience into Shadow but…really? They’re tryna solely pander and play on the nostalgia of a small minority of players who liked a game that was considered to be the start of Sonic’s downfall in the 2000s and make that the selling point of this remaster to the general public? Where some in said general public may argue that they’re about to ruin a rare good Sonic game with stuff that they think no one ever liked??? I don’t really believe it.
Hell, speaking personally, I’ve never played Shadow 05, I don’t own a GameCube, maybe a PS2 but even then I didn’t get much games at the time. While I sorta played around with the franchises growing up, I fully got into it around when Sonic Mania came out (and even then it took me a while to finally play it). So even though I may be hyping up Black Doom’s return, I myself am not coming from any rose tinted glasses or anything, these are just observations from the many discussions I’ve seen online or videos showcasing these games. Same would go for a lot of people into that game as many while loved it, still would acknowledge where it fumbles and how it’s definitely not the definitive Sonic experience to have.
Sonic has begun to evolve, experimenting with new ideas and offering new and different ways to enjoy the franchise. As mentioned earlier, lots of shit happened in the past 4 months. While I agree that something like Frontiers relying on the same old levels for Cyberspace to be stupid, that shouldn’t undermine the actual new stuff it offers for the franchise. I feel like we’re already far beyond the franchise needing to be like “hey remember Green Hill???” as it’s main identity for a game/the franchise. And even then, this shouldn’t mean Sonic can’t look back on previous entries anymore ever again.
Many want Sonic to be like other franchises, like Mario, Kirby, etc, they’ve been also occasionally doing the look back on an old title or old past, so why not let Sonic do the same? We shouldn’t immediately respond to a callback with claims that it’s poor nostalgia pandering, as the take away imo always should’ve been that there should be a balance between original and new and looking back on what worked.
I am happy to say that regardless what this remaster is, we are in good hands again.
———————————————
also unrelated as hell but pray for this man, he has not uploaded a Sonic video in 4 months, I think SEGA killed him by over feeding him with content 😭

dps boys (and keating's) favourite songs (aka me projecting because i love music) (also modern au because you cannot limit me to music before 1960 you just cant)
i made a playlist of all these songs in case you wanna give em a listen, you can find it here. if you totally disagree with me or wanna add more then absolutely let me know!
neil: talia - ride the cyclone (the musical)
yes i KNOW it's obvious to choose a song from a musical BUT. ride the cyclone is special, i think he'd really like the lack of an ensemble and enjoy the dark premise despite the comedic nature of a vast majority of the show. also i totally think his favourite performance would be by gus halper bc of the use of the projector. mischa or noel is definitely a dream role of his.
todd: vincent - james blake ('s cover, og by don mclean)
don mcleans lyricism is like catnip to poets and it has gone unacknowledged for far too long. a lyrically gorgeous, vaguely queer sounding song about a tortured artist, covered by someone with an ANGELIC voice. can you name anything more todd? not to mention the piano is so far beyond moving, nothing short of a masterpiece.
charlie: dear prudence - siouxsie and the banshees (again - a cover, og by the beatles)
firm believer that charlie was an avid beatles hater for a WHILE until eleanor rigby grew on him, much to his dismay. is now a casual beatles enjoyer, only due to the fact that their vocals annoy him. so a cover by siouxsie sioux (whom he most definitely has a crush on) is basically a blessing in disguise. loves the instrumentals, loves the vocals, loves all of it. insists that its better than the original and will ultimately die (correct) on that hill.
meeks: love on the line (call now) - her's
as much as i love and adore meeks, i have been loyal to my headcanon that he is an annoying music snob since day one. of course, this culminates in his favourite song being by THE indie pop/rock band that pretentious people love to bring up the death of. he is no exception, any time the band is mentioned he will without fail go "did you know that they died in a car crash?" either way, id be lying if i said this was a bad pick. the upbeat vibe mixed with the actual meaning of the song being about a guy wasting all his money on a sex hotline? it makes the whole song so fun, and thats right up his alley! super danceable too, which plays a huge part.
pitts: bad fruit - jean dawson
will mona ever shut up about jean dawson? signs point to no. anywho, if you've followed along with my pittsie musings then you KNOW that i consider pitts to be the most well versed music guy to ever step on welton academy campus. realistically, im sure his favourite song changes on a day to day basis, but he always comes back to this. jean dawson makes art that ive seen few do similarly, everything he brings to the table i find so incredibly unique and well crafted. definitely pitts' biggest music crush.
cameron: '39 - queen
absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, an extremely guilty pleasure. i take his parents as the type to ban queen in their household (for reasons that im sure youre able to pick up on) but i ALSO take cameron as a sucker for classic rock, match made in hell. of course, since brian may does the vocals on this song instead of freddie, he can listen on the dl and be fine. also, the concept of time travel in music is SO!!! INTERESTING!! would absolutely go on a 10 minute long tangent about the story and meaning of the song, which only mittsie would actually listen to.
knox: lavender buds - MF DOOM
fine, FINE. i'll give knox a proper headcanon, but i wont be happy about it. i think i would listen to MF DOOM a lot more if i was a former bully, but thats not actually based off anything so dont take that as an insult, avid listeners. honestly i dont really have an in depth explanation for this one, just look at the lyrics and youll understand.

(this repeats 3 times)
i also take him to be a big r&b/ blues enjoyer, also based off nothing at all, so the sample probably appeals to some sense of nostalgia.
keating: clair de lune - claude debussy
yes, even modern keating's fav song would be classical, you can rip that from my cold, dead hands. this song was based off the poem by the same title by paul verlaine, which i'll include because it is just so damn beautiful.
Your soul is a select landscape
Where charming masqueraders and bergamaskers go
Playing the lute and dancing and almost
Sad beneath their fantastic disguises.
All sing in a minor key
Of victorious love and the opportune life,
They do not seem to believe in their happiness
And their song mingles with the moonlight,
With the still moonlight, sad and beautiful,
That sets the birds dreaming in the trees
And the fountains sobbing in ecstasy,
The tall slender fountains among marble statues.
Paul Verlaine, 1869 (originally written in french, so this is a rough english translation)
now the song itself does SUCH a good job at capturing the beauty and moving parts of this poem, and it fits perfectly with a plethora of different emotions. i know without a shadow of a doubt that its his kryptonite. is that me projecting because i love this song and i love keating? absolutely, but i still think its true either way.
#desire mona#media#please please please listen to the playlist all these songs are wonderful i promise#dead poets society#neil perry#todd anderson#charlie dalton#steven meeks#gerard pitts#richard cameron#knox overstreet#john keating#mona talks music#banger

heeeeeeeeeeey i saw you mention firmament and then later the Witness and as an avid puzzle game fan, I'm always looking for recommendations!! i never know how to look for good ones and am pretty easily entertained so i'd love to know about any other faves you have!!
in no order:
Myst: the original. one of the most influential video games ever made, and the only reason it doesn't unquestionably hold that title is because DOOM came out two months after it. Myst is to the genre of puzzle games as Rogue is to roguelikes, except unlike Rogue, Myst has an HD remaster so you can actually play it in 2023 without squinting at a UI that looks like an oscilloscope. even the later games in the series still hold up on their own merits; my current obsession with puzzle games started when i picked up Myst 3 for the fucking Playstation 2 (!!!) at a thrift store in college and sank dozens of hours into it
Return of the Obra Dinn: not technically a "puzzle" game in the traditional sense, but you still have to logic your way through some difficult questions, and i'm not passing up an opportunity to recommend this one. go in completely blind. do not look up a summary on wikipedia or review on youtube
Opus Magnum: i will admit that this one requires a certain flavor of autism to really click with people, but if that sounds like you, this game will suck hours from your day faster than even Factorio
Baba Is You: dares to ask the question, "what if those flash puzzle games where you push blocks around on a grid were actually hard and also good?"
Taiji: "we have The Witness at home"
Fez: this game singlehandedly inflated Phil Fish's ego like Violet Beauregarde, and it's very easy to see why once you start playing it. it's because the video game is very good
The Looker: you should know what to expect from this one based solely on the title and price tag (free)
Manifold Garden: one of the most beautiful/mind-blowing visual experiences in gaming. take psychedelics beforehand if possible
Moncage: perspective-based puzzles with a cute underlying story tying everything together. very "cozy"
VVVVVV: not sure if this one counts as a "puzzle" game but if you haven't played it yet what the fuck are you doing

Sonic x Shadow Gens Review.
(MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!)
So, gamers, i have played and finished Sonic x Shadow Generations, both campaigns, and i just wanna say.... GOD. DAMN.
I cannot believe that Sega released a Sonic "remaster" and it actually TURNED OUT GOOD!?!? WITHOUT ANY BUGS!!? NO GRAPHICAL GLITCHES FROM MY KNOWLEDGE!!?!? WHAT HAPPENED!??!
I will quickly go over Sonic Generations before we talk about... the big boy.
So, how is Sonic Generations? Welp. It's.... it's the same game!! And as someone who played it on PC for years, it looks identical to the original release! Maybe the colours are tweaked? The UI looks way nicer with the resolution boost and the chao rescue stuff is really cute.
Uh, i will say though. i do like MOST of the rewriting that they did. But here's the thing, Sonic Generations' story is like eating a McDonalds cheeseburger, but it's only the patty and buns. The rewrite just adds some cheese and a dab of tomato sauce. It's better, but you're still eating a damn McDonalds cheeseburger. And to add on to this, the VAs didn't sound... good, this time around... Idk, something seems very off about their performances? Mike Pollock especially, bro lost ALL OF HIS ENERGY in his Eggman performance. Tails' VA sounds kinda... bleh too, i dont know what happened here. Roger Craig Smith sounds bored playing Sonic, and i feel bad for him because Ian Flynn's writing can be pretty damn wordy. He's a skilled voice actor FOR SURE, but i never clicked with his Sonic, ever. (Jason Griffith, i miss you every day, my sweet prince... They took you away too soon... At least i still have the definitive Sonic voice in the Japanese version...)
The story also continues the trend of turning Amy into a boring side character with zero personality or spice because GOD FORBID A CARTOON CHARACTER ACTS CARTOONY AND A LITTLE CRAZY! SHE IS NOT AN ABUSIVE STALKER WHO WANTS TO FORCE SONIC INTO THINGS HE ISN'T COMFORTABLE WITH! SHE IS A FUCKING FANGIRL OF SONIC WHO WANTS TO HANG OUT WITH HIM AND SHE LOVES HIM AS A PERSON!!!! IF YOU PLAY THE OLD 3D GAMES WITH RETRANSLATED MODS YOU WILL SEE!!!!!!!! GOD!!!
But i could make a whole post about Amy man... I really could...
Okay enough about Sonic Generations, it's time to talk about Shadow Generations and what do I think of it?

First, I'll brush over the story, NO SPOILERS DON'T WORRY!! I will say this, there were plenty of moments that easily got tears out of me and the stuff involving Maria and Shadow? Oh.... oh baby... PEAK!!!! Black Doom is really dope too, Shadow was pretty well written in this, too, and his VA knocked it out of the park!!! Kirk Thornton, I'm sorry that i doubted you... And Maria's VA too? Love the performance!!
However... This story feels... underdeveloped? Undercooked? it feels like there needed to be MORE! I think that the pacing felt a litttleeeee too fast and i kinda wished there was just more to chew on! It's like eating some damn good chocolate ice cream, but the ice cream is just one scoop. LIKE I WANT MORE!!! I WANT TWO SCOOPS!! I WANT SOME CHOCOLATE CHIPS IN THE ICE CREAM!!! UGH!! It's good, BUT I WANT MORE!!!! There needed to be more on it's bones, more screentime with Maria and Gerald, more time fleshing out stuff and properly explaining Black Doom's return instead of it being optional dialogue in the white world or prologue animaton on YouTube that you could skip. There's all this cool optional shit that is well... OPTIONAL!!!! And it actually enhances the characters, BUT I DIDN'T SEE IT UNTIL I LITERALLY BEAT THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DIDN'T READ GERALD'S DIARY UNTIL AFTER I BEAT THE STORY!!! THE LAST TWO PAGES ARE LITERALLY AT THE FINAL SECTION OF THE GAME!!!!
There is this one moment with Maria and Shadow and like.... it gave me the biggest damn smile on my face. And the ending too man, my god.
ALSO THE CUTSCENES ARE FILMED REALLY WELL?!? HOLY SHIT THEY ARE ACTUALLY GOOD?!?!? It makes Frontiers look like a PS1 game in terms of quality like holy mother of god, the cutscenes and animations have improved so MUCH in the span of one game... It makes me so so excited for what's to come....
NOW! GAMEPLAY TIME! How does Shadow control? How does this black and red alien hedgehog play?
I'll put it like this... Imagine Sonic Forces, BUT!!! The air control is better, platforming feels smoother, the homing attack is better and more satisfying and 2D control feels actually good. it's just like Forces but everything feels a lot better, it's WAYYY BETTER THAN VANILLA CYBERSPACE FROM FRONTIERS!
Good controls don't mean much if the levels aren't good, BUT THANKFULLY Shadow Generations level design is actually pretty damn solid, and each level made me feel satisfied and wanting to go again!! There's plenty of optional pathways but the pathways don't really go to brand new exclusive areas. It's not on the same tier as Sonic Generations, BUT! It's close.
My favourite level is either Sunset Heights or Radical Highway. YES! THE SONIC FORCES LEVEL IS MY FAVOURITE! HOW CRAZY IS THAT?!!? THEY TURNED MID TO GOOD!!!
I also love how the collectables are placed on the harder pathways and reward you for skillful play, unlike in Sonic Generations where most of the red rings ARE ON THE BOTTOM PATHWAYS!!!!! WHY?!!? THAT'S THE PLACE MOST PLAYERS WON'T GO TO!!!! Ugh. I hate collecting red rings in Sonic Generations but thank god the collectables are actually fun to grab in Shadow Generations.
Now i wanna brush on the white space because i have some words to say on that too.
White space was really fun to explore and unlike Frontiers, you could see things in the distance and platforms don't just pop in!!!!!!!!!! I loved doom surfing around, finding chests, bolts and just running around. It's really fun. It's not as in-depth as Frontiers, but i want the next Open Zone game to take a lot of inspiration from this white space. Also, seeing Omega and other characters in the hub and talking to them is really cute stuff.
Finding ALL the chests and bolts tho makes me wanna wish a thousand year torment onto someone.
And speaking of Doom Surf... The Doom powers and Chaos Control, i.... LOVE THEM! They are the perfect way to make Shadow more unique from Sonic and give the levels that extra level of flavour. Doom Spears add some spice to the standard homing attack chains you do in 3D Sonic levels, Doom Blast is really fun to use and opens up new pathways, Chaos Control is AWESOME!!! I LOVE HOW IF YOU USE IT AT THE RIGHT TIME IT OPENS UP COOL PATHS!! MY JAW DROPPED MULTIPLE TIMES SEEING THE PATHWAYS THAT I FOUND FOR MYSELF WITH CHAOS CONTROL!!! Doom Surf is fun to use and it spices up Kingdom Valley a lot, but... Doom Morph? The squid? THAT ONE SUCKKKSSSS!!! Awful turning, awful speed control, awful jump arc that makes Super Mario Bros. from the NES look like a top tier platformer, they don't properly explain the grappling mechanic which left me feeling so frustrated at certain points.
And... of course... The Doom Wings...
THE DOOM WINGS.... THE STUFF YOU COULD BREAK WITH THEM AND THE LEVEL DESIGN ACCOMINDATES FOR THEM TOO?!?!? SO IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE YOUR GLITCHING THE GAME?!?!? SONIC TEAM DID SUCH A GOOD JOB OH MY GOD!!!!
Now, let's talk about the bosses...
Bosses are pretty fun!! They feel very satisfying to beat down and have some awesome dialogue. Although they are kind of one note, like the strategy to beat them doesn't REALLYYY change but hey, It's Sonic bosses, they've never been that amazing since the beginning of the franchise. But i would rather take this kind of boss design OVER SONIC SUPERSTARS!! BLEHHH!!!
Also I'm not gonna go too much into it but what they did with Mephiles, story wise for his boss fight? Oh man, I LOVE IT!! THEY DID SUCH A GOOD JOB! (the new VA for him, Robbie Daymond was kinda.... okayyy. Needed to sound deeper and it would been damn great. I know he played Akechi from Persona 5, he just needed better direction.)
Alright.. Let's discuss arguably the most important part of any Sonic game, the music, and um, I'm gonna be for real, it's kind of a mixed bag? DON'T GET ME WRONG!! There are some bangers, some top tier tracks that will get that blood pumping! But for every banger, there's a Space Colony Ark Act 2 and a Chaos Island Act 1....
The music can be summed up with this handy chart!
I wanna quickly brush upon the challenge acts too, i liked most of them but having to complete 4 OF THEM FOR EACH ZONE TO ADVANCE THE STORY IS SOME MASSIVE PADDING!!!
And.. I think that is it!! Overall, Shadow Generations is great!! The story has some cool moments but it felt VERY underbaked, the level design has improved a lot from previous games, i like the white space and the simple enjoyment of going around and collecting things.
It is a good to great game but it definitely has some flaws and i wouldn't give it a 9/10 and say it's PEAK overall like what some are saying online. Yeah it's good, but, it has flaws. It isn't perfect, however it is VERYYY fun!
Shadow Generations really does give me hope, this isn't yet another "step in the right direction" no. This is a LEAP!

goodbye yellow brick road
the spot x musician! gn! reader

author’s note: this is the cheesiest thing i have ever written and i apologize for the tooth rotting sweetness in here… also! it’s important to know what this song sounds like, so here you go! when you see orange text, it’s song lyrics, so go listen!
be like me and listen on LOOP ANYWAYS. also, please let me know if y’all want more spot fanfic (i can tone down the cheese if y’all want) 🫡❤️
“A BAGEL, HONEY. THE CHILD HIT ME WITH A BAGEL.”
“i know i know john, i saw- you’re so brave for enduring that, i would have NEVER survived.”
“oh, shut up.”
“make me.”
you and john always loved your flirty bickering after a long day at alchemax. every day at exactly 6:30, you and your husband would walk hand in hand down the gum covered sidewalk, talking about your day, your hopes, your dreams, the usual. your boyfriend was a busy, busy man, but he always made time for you. even if he had to stay late at the office, he would INSIST on walking you home, and returning to work after dinner with you. to put it quite frankly: his world revolved around you. he thought you were the most attractive person to ever grace the earth, and was constantly asking himself how he could end up with someone so perfect… and hot. you didn’t understand why, as you saw yourself as nothing more than a lowly secretary, doomed to be rushing papers back and forth to men for the rest of your days. it wasn’t your job of choice, but it payed well, and seeing john absolutely flourish at work made it all worth it.
this specific night, you went about your usual weekday routine with your boyfriend: order some takeout, make out on the couch for a while, discuss mortality, and then fall asleep. but, something was off.
10:30pm
“y/n, stop rolling around, please”
“sorry.”
11pm
“john? you awake?”
and as the clocks struck midnight, you got out of bed, trying to find a way to occupy yourself, tire yourself out enough to shut your eyes and actually fall asleep. it was at this moment you turned your eyes away from the kitchen pantry, looking to grab a midnight snack, and instead looked towards the small, spinet piano on the back wall. you usually tried to avoid this sight, as it reminded you of a life you never achieved, a goal you never reached… but tonight? you needed it. you needed to play this piano more than anything else. you sat down at the instrument, silently cursing yourself for doing this. you wondered what song to play, flipping through decisions in your head- but, that was all futile, as your hands and heart had a different idea, and you began to slowly play the opening notes to elton john’s “goodbye yellow brick road”.
when are you gonna come down?
when are you going to land?
against your usual better judgement, you started softly singing after the first verse, careful not to wake johnathan.
i should’ve stayed on the farm
i should have listened to my old man
“y/n?” jonathan called as he stirred awake, unaware that his partner was already lost in their own world.
you know you can’t hold me forever
i didn’t sign up with you
i’m not a present for your friends to open
this boy’s too young to be singing the blues
johnathan couldn’t believe his eyes. there you were, his partner, playing the piano and singing your heart out like your life depended on it. he was truly awestruck. he didn’t want to interrupt your beautiful moment, but he had to say something…
“y/n”-
he couldn’t even get through your whole name before you turned around, quicker than lightning, with a terrified look on your face.
“oh my word jonathan i am so SO so sorry i probably woke you up with all my damn wailing, and i just don’t know what happened this isn’t-“
he shut you up with a kiss before you could say another word. the two of you stayed there, enjoying each other’s embrace in the dead of night, when your husband pulls away, asking, “why didn’t you tell me you could sing and play like THAT?”
it was a touchy subject for you. you always wanted to be a musician, and a great one at that, but it just wasn’t financially feasible for you. you had bills to take care of, bills that music just wouldn’t pay.
“i- i don’t really play much any more. or sing. i always dreamed of becoming as great as bach or mozart or someone- but, it was a stupid, stupid dream. i mean… i’m happy where i am now.”
“are you though?” he questioned.
you thought about this for a minute. were you REALLY happy? well, you had a loving husband and a good paying job- you should be happy. but you didn’t have one thing- music. money didn’t matter when music was what got you through so many rough patches in life. seeing your internal battle, johnathon grabbed your chin with his hand, and quietly spoke,
“y/n. i love you. and i want you to be happy. and if music makes you as happy as i’ve seen you tonight, you need to pursue it. we’ll find a way to make ends meet, i promise you. just, live your life- live your dream.”
and in that moment, you smiled to yourself and knew, this was the man you were going to marry.
•
the time was six thirty, the very next day, and you were waiting for your johnny outside the alchemex building.
you waited.
and waited.
and he never came.
a few hours later, not a word came from him.
you paced around your apartment, fearing that he found someone else, fearing that he thought you might be a financial burden with a career change… but all those ideas were put to bed when you saw the notification from your news app pop up on your cellphone.
alchemex.
collider.
explosion.
body not found.
your johnny, was dead.
•
johnny was dead- but “the spot”, the remains of his human form, a dalmatian like amalgamation of spots and the man he used to be. the spot had been wandering around brooklyn for what felt like an eternity, in search of a home, a friend, just- anything. and in the back of his mind, there was always, you. talented, amazing, you… who didn’t need to be seen with a monster like himself (at least in the spot’s mind). he was a ghost, a man forgotten by the world- or so he thought.
he was walking by Jenna’s, a local coffee shop him and y/n always loved to visit, when he heard a familiar voice, ringing out from the inside of the café
it was you.
you, up there onstage, playing to a full house, all eyes on you and all smiles upon every person’s face. you did it. you really did it. spot ducked his head as you looked out the window, towards the sky, and made an announcement,
“this next song is for someone who once told me to live my dream, no matter what… and because of him- i’m doing it. wherever you are, thank you-”
you played those starting notes he remembered hearing all those months ago.
so goodbye yellow brick road
where the dogs of society howl
you can't plant me in your penthouse
i’m going back to my plough
you threw your head back, becoming so damn passionate about this song that meant so damn much to you
back to the howling, old owl in the woods
hunting the horny-back toad
oh, i’ve finally decided my future lies
beyond the yellow brick road
the spot completely lost his breath as you held out the final note of the chorus. my word, you were amazing- the heart and soul you sang with was unparalleled, and he wanted to just run up to you, and hold you in his arms, kissing you until neither of you could breathe. but, he couldn’t. he wasn’t jonathan anymore. that man died. and he could see y/n was still not over that fact as he saw them hold back tears as they finished the song- it broke the spot. it broke jonathan. he had to do something, do anything.
•
you woke with a jolt as you heard a crash come through your window.
“hello??” you called, half jokingly, thinking this was simply a branch or a bird- you didn’t expect to hear footsteps right in your kitchen.
you were TERRIFIED. grabbing a broom, you made your way out to this… thing, preparing to fight it, to get it out of your home. imagine your surprise when you saw
a spotted man
who called YOUR NAME
“y/n, please-“
you were NOT HAVING THIS, you threw your broom at the THING, screaming and yelling a pattern of
“go away”s
“i’ll call the police, i- i’ll call spiderman”s
and a few
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU”s
the spotty thing pleaded with you, on its knees, begging you to listen to it
you obliged. it skittered over to your piano, and started playing notes that sounded like a child attempting to play…
goodbye yellow brick road
and now that you thought about it, this thing did sound a lot like your lost lover…
it was your song. it was him. you didn’t know how, but it was,
“jonathan”, you yelled, throwing yourself into his dotted arms. you didn’t know how, and you didn’t know why, but you knew that this, thing, was your johnny. and in that moment, nothing else mattered. life would go on, and things would work out.
and as he held your head with his hands, your boyfriend said, after what felt like an eternity,
“i love you.”

I feel like people forget just how many Nintendo IPs got proper revives on the Switch, so I made a big fat thread about some
The biggest one in my eyes, a series that holds strong importance to me, is Pikmin. After getting a pretty damn good game on the Wii U back in 2013 the series was propelled into a limbo-like state with Pikmin 4 being "On My Way!" for a decade straight. Mainline wise, nothing, we don't talk about Hey Pikmin. Absolute crickets for awhile and then almost overnight it became THE system for Pikmin games. Pikmin 3 Deluxe, which is way more than just a port, with a bucket full of new content and an alternative campaign, released October 30th 2020. Back to crickets for a few years until all of a sudden, Pikmin 4 and ports of Pikmin 1 and 2 released on the same day of July 21st 2023. All incredible games in their own right, the supreme ports of all, insanely proud Nintendo treats their small fish franchise with such delicate care; if you're using this list as a game suggestions list, check out Pikmin you will NOT regret it.
Famicom Detective Club, which was one damned to eternal obscure Nintendo fanatic knowledge hell, has arose from its grave and is unironically making strong waves. The last original game being made in 1989 and then having "Super Famicom Satellaview Remasters" in the mid 90s, which are damn hard to find proper info on. Other than that, tombstone. Only real thing of note being that it was the first project Yoshio Sakamoto sunk his pen into, other than that it was doomed to niche oddity and a footnote in gaming history. The Switch changed all that, with remakes of the first two games being bundled together and released May 14th 2021. That's not all, a brand new game in the series, "Emio - The Smiling Man", is currently set to release August 29th 2024 as of writing
F-Zero, technically got a new game! It's pennies compared to everyone else's quarters and dollars, but after a 20+ year hiatus its worth a mention. With the last game in the series, ironically called F-Zero Climax, released on the GBA there were crickets after that. Gone but not forgotten, it got the occasional rerelease onto the latest system's virtual console, and it still had a spot in Smash Brothers. Granted if you were me growing up you'd figure that Captain Falcon was just some wack original character, but shit the representation matters. It was like that until September 14th, 2023, when a brand new game in the series with online got announced and released later in a Nintendo direct! Sure it was just a battle royale game, another drop in the bucket with the 99 subtitle, but it counts for this list.
Metroid, the series infamous for its dry spells, has been an oasis of new content recently. The last chronological game in the 2D Metroid series was Fusion, released in 2002, with the Metroid Prime game getting its third installment in 2007. In terms of original games, that was it. There was a remake of Metroid 1 on the GBA, and a remake of Metroid 2 on the 3DS, and there were spinoffs here and there (Metroid Prime Pinball is my GOAT baby); other than that, nothing. That is until the Switch came along, with Metroid Prime 4 being announced within the same year of the Switch's release. It took literally 7 years to get more info about Prime 4 but its with confidence to say that the game is coming out, sometime in 2025. 2D Metroid, long dormant and stagnant and almost two decades without a game got a surprise announcement in a Nintendo Direct; the highly anticipated and teased Metroid Dread, long thought to be a cancelled DS game but emerging in the flesh brazen as ever. Released October 8th, 2021, Metroid is officially back after what felt like centuries of wait.
2D Mario has been stuck in a rut of unoriginality for a decade and a half now. Since the release of New Super Mario Bros for the DS in May 2006, 2D Mario was stuck in a loop of distilling the same damn game over and over, with it getting stripped more and more of what once was in such a short time. It hit a boiling point in November 2012, with the release of "New Super Mario Bros U", the second New Super game to release that year. After that, nothing. People were sick of what felt like the same damn game, sure they were passable but it felt emblematic of everything 2D Mario shouldn't be. Then, almost like an angel from the heavens, came Super Mario Bros Wonder; the antithesis of New Super, it had original concepts in boatloads and felt like a proper evolution of 2D Mario. New concepts in spades, so much extra content, brilliant new artstyle in a new kingdom. It feels like going from store bought freezer pancakes from Walmart to a French chef from a 5 michelien star restaurant making you your breakfast.
The Mario & Luigi series, although a cult classic series, never quite got the mainstream attention it deserved. Even with classics like Bowser's Inside Story, Dream Team, Superstar Saga, the financial backing from the public and internal was just never quite there. After Dream Team (sleeper hit, if you're interested check it out!), it was the beginning of the end with the release of Paper Jam. Reused assets, real basic baby story, padding aplenty, dialogue that hits the senses like pulling teeth (fuckin leave Luigi alone), there's no way this was anything other than a cash grab. A collaboration with Paper Mario too, another cult classic series, it was insulting to both Paper Mario fans and M&L fans. After that, no new original games. Alphadream pumped out two remakes, which are pretty alright, and them they went bankrupt. God bless Alphadream, but the writing was on the wall when they kept making 3DS games long after the Switch came out. It was a dark time, felt clear as light that the M&L series will remain to be past tense and just a footnote in the large conglomerate that is Mario now. Until recently, with the announcement of Brothership; a new spanking game in the M&L series releasing in November of this year.
Genuine generational run Nintendo is going on right now. List could've droned on for easily triple the length, and I might make a sequel to this one day. Could've been even more if i talked about new Nintendo's new IPs or just how much better everything's gotten. It rules we live in this time now, especially after the dark ages of the Wii U.

One of a Kind Vamp Chapter 5: I Just Want your Heart
Summary: A zombie apocalypse is the last thing the gang expected, also living in a sami-abandoned Walmart wasn't their plan either. But they made do with what they had while trying to find a cure. However, like all great survival stories they didn't get where they are without scarifies. (Inspired by a dream I had years ago)
Auther Notes: Well, here we are this is the last chapter I wrote for Rory week and man is the chapter a beast. Like this is the longest chapter I've written so far. So, um I wanted to post this yesterday, but I wanted to proofread it one more time before editing and posting it. I know it's late and I wanted to post the second chapter of Whitechapel Adventures Remastered yesterday instead however that chapter needs more time as well. So, while this is a little late, enjoy the last written chapter of this story for the time being.
“Hey, Rory?”
“Yeah.” Rory tore his attention from the window, looking at his little lover. It was a calm rainy day in Whitechapel, which was becoming a rarity at this point, from dealing with evil trees trying to suck the souls out of humans, encountering a weredog, to meeting Doug Falconhawk?! Yeah, things have been pretty insane around here, though aside from getting the Scare Finder cancelled, it has been a quiet month. Which was odd; Rory expected more from these previous weeks, aside from Benny turning Ethan into a werewolf and him being possessed by a freaking tree. It made him wonder: What will they deal with next?
Speaking of which, “Do you ever wonder what supernatural issue we’ll deal with next?" Dakota questioned, staring at him with those lovesick eyes,
The boy beside her shrugged, shifting his position on the window seat. “Honestly, I’ve got no idea; we’ve been dealing with the supernatural since the school year began. Plus, we; well, more like you faced off against a werewolf, Ethan, how can anything top that?”
“Well, what about zombies? We haven’t dealt with that yet.” She smirked,
Rory hummed, finding the idea of a zombie apocalypse kind of exciting. At least he won’t need to worry about school. “Yeah, I kind of like the idea of that. It’d be pretty cool to beat up some more undead creatures.” He smiled, but slowly fell once he remembered a scary side effect: “Well, I guess the real drawback is the fact the infection is spread through biting. If one of us got bit, we’d be doomed.”
“Yeah, Ethan and Benny are the brains of the operation.” She giggled, “No pun intended; if either of them became zombies, I don’t know what we’d do without them.”
Rory nodded, putting his arm around his best friend. “It’s a good thing we’ll never have to worry about that; even I admit zombies in Whitechapel feels impossible even for this town’s standards.”
Dakota giggled, feeling reassured by her friend’s attempt at comforting her. “Theoretically, if a zombie apocalypse were to happen, you’d be there to protect me, right? Even if the going gets tough.”
Her friend nodded and pulled her close. “Of course, we’ve known each other way too long for me to abandon you now.”
Dakota held Rory tightly; she felt safe, warm, and loved. She’s only known Rory for a few months, but the bond the two shared made it feel like she’d known him all her life. Being by his side felt right; even though his body temperature fell after becoming a vampire, she still felt so warm. Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Why did she feel so cold?
Dakota opened her eyes to find herself no longer in her room but in a dark, freezing hallway. She looked around, calling out for anyone who may be there, but no reply came. The young girl closed her eyes and tried to level her breathing; she felt around for her best friend’s hand, and her eyes snapped open. Rory wasn’t with her; she was completely alone now; she was really starting to panic.
“Rory? Rory?!” No reply,
Dakota didn’t waste any time trying to find her vampire bestie, rushing down the hallway on shaky legs. Dakota tried to locate her friends all the while an omnipresent fear pressed down on her chest; she couldn’t explain why, but the darkness created a paralyzing fear that seemed to get worse the deeper she went. She desperately tried to keep it together, but the confusion and worry she felt made it difficult. Where were her friends? Where were Ethan and Benny, Sarah, or Erica? And where was her group? She prayed they were safe.
In her rush, she nearly missed a shadow standing at a dead end, a flicking light outlining their silhouette. Slowly and timidly, Dakota walked towards the figure, hoping it was someone she knew.
“Ethan? Benny? Sarah? Erica? ... Rory?” She muttered quietly to herself, “Hey, are you okay?” She placed a hand on the figure's shoulder; they spun around and lunged at her. Dakota yelped, pulling her hand away, and dodged the incoming attack.
“Brains.” It moaned, slowly coming out of hiding; their slowness was actually what made them scarier.
“R-Rory?” Dakota recognized her heart sinking to her chest.
Her former friend didn’t look so well; his skin seemed pale and rotting simultaneously. His hair was unkempt and sticking up in all directions, his clothes were ripped and tattered. Dakota didn’t know what could’ve happened to her best friend, but she wasn’t sticking around to find out. A zombie vampire was not something she wanted to fight, let alone lose against. So, she turned and ran only looking behind to see her friend giving chase; her heart beat spiked as she struggled to outrun him.
Soon, more zombies came out of the shadows, trying to grab her. Dakota tried to fight them off but soon realized there were too many, so she retreated, trying to find an exit to escape this nightmare, but to no avail. Familiar faces stopped her at every turn forcing her deeper into this dark labyrinth that seemed to be getting darker as she went on. Everywhere she went, the hoard of zombies was at her heels, just mere itches away from grabbing and devouring her. She could feel herself slowing down; her chest hurt as she gasped for breath, but she couldn’t afford to falter now; if she did, her fate would be sealed; she would be nothing but a pale of bones in this nightmarish hellscape.
Sadly, any hope she had for escape was shattered as she found herself in a dead end. She turned around and saw no chance of escaping the hoard of zombies who were closing in. They crowded around her, forcing her further into the corner. She prayed for someone anyone to rescue her, but she knew deep inside no one would ever find her. She spared one last tearful glance at Rory, wanting to remember him for who he was, before he lunged and bit down hard with his sharp fangs, and she screamed she screamed with all her might as the darkness consumed her.
Dakota gasped awake, her breathing rapid and erratic. She felt around her body for bite marks, and when she couldn’t find any, she realized where she was.
“Oh, it was just another nightmare.” She sighed, rubbing a hand through her damp hair. She looked around the makeshift bedroom and got out of bed. It’s been about three months since the outbreak. It was hard to believe a zombie outbreak could happen in Whitechapel, but in all seriousness, they should have seen it coming. Latta Latte, a freaking coffee shop, was ground zero for the infection. From what Esamanda, Lizzy, and Sarah were able to discover, the cause was a gallon of Chicken De-brainer that was meant to be delivered to McFingers. Whoever was in charge didn’t notice the blue jug delivered to them wasn’t their usual order of water but was filled with dangerous chemicals. When ingested, the victim would slowly become braindead, creating a zombie mentality; thankfully, the outbreak didn’t spread to the rest of the world and has been contained.
Shortly after the breakout, the fang gang, along with Dakota’s group, rounded up the infected and trapped them in a Walmart. A weird choice, they know, but it was all they could do in such short notice. For all things considered, they were lucky the store was so well stocked and was still getting deliveries to this day; granted, they still needed to avoid the infected while unloading everything, but it was manageable, or at least it used to be.
“Morning everyone.” Dakota greeted, giving a tired wave.
“Morning.” They replied, varying levels of disinterest in their tone. But she didn’t blame them; it’s been a rough few weeks.
The main base of operation was an employee breakroom that had a connected storage room, which was magically expanded to become their bedrooms. Around the table were Emily, Ethan, and Erica. Jane and Chloe were on the floor playing with dolls. Sadly, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan were among those infected, and Ethan couldn’t bring himself to leave her with Mrs. Weir, who offered to take care of her for the time being; however, Ethan refused, knowing Jane was his responsibility.
Amy was in another room trying to concoct a cure; a lot of sleepless nights were spent trying to find a way to return everything to normal. But it was worth it; it’s not like the infection came from a mutated virus from a movie; they were pretty sure the side effects were curable, Amy included.
The remainder of the group were doing various things both inside and outside the base. Esamanda and Lizzy were searching the town for signs of damage and other zombies that may have slipped their grasp. Cindy organized the gathered supply and was the closest thing to a nurse the gang had. And Mabel was trying her hardest to provide moral support and repair any clothes that were ripped during their escapades.
“So, what’s on the agenda today?” Dakota asked, trying to sound cheerful,
“We need more supplies.” Sarah spoke simply, stirring a pot of oatmeal. Thank God they weren’t dealing with an actual apocalypse, or else certain supplies would be harder to come by. “Emily, I believe it’s your turn?”
“I’ll go.” Dakota offered, and silence filled the room as everyone froze. It’s not like they didn’t have faith in the young teen; Dakota was just as capable as everyone else; however, they couldn’t afford to lose her.
“Are you sure?” Emily asked tentatively, “After all, we just lost…” She trailed off, not wanting to address the elephant in the room.
“I’ll be fine.” Dakota spoke sternly, trying to ignore the lump in her throat and the pain in her heart. “We don’t need much, right? Erica went out a few weeks ago, and we haven’t eaten much since… since…” Another deafening silence filled the air; again, no one wanted to address the incident.
“Okay, you can go.” Sarah spoke quickly, wanting this conversation to end. “Just be careful and be back before dinner.”
“If you give me a list of what we need, I’ll be back before lunch.” She said, her serious tone telling them she’d be okay.
“Take one of the petz with you; if things get tough, their powers will aid you.” Emily advised,
“I’ll bring Pink Pegasus with me; if anything happens, I’ll send her back with a note on her collar.”
The others nodded, agreeing with the idea.
“Just be careful, okay.” Erica said, placing a hand on her shoulder, “I was out there last week and saw one in the shadows.”
“Who was it?” Ethan wondered,
Erica shook her head. “I’m not sure; however, I’m positive it was stalking me.”
No one had anything to say about that. Aside from fearing for their friend’s safety, the conversation ended shortly after, and Dakota left the safety of their hideout with a shopping basket and Pink Pegasus on her shoulder.
"Alright, Pink, let’s go.”
“Hiya!” Dakota exclaimed, kicking a zombified Principal Hick’s to the ground.
Rory jumped back, not even seeing the zombie coming up behind him. “Whoa, thanks for the save, Dakota.”
The other smirked, straightening herself up and wiping sweat off her forehead. "Anytime, Rory, but do you have any idea how irresponsible that was?"You can’t just go off fighting zombies without proper protection! Haven’t those video games taught you anything?! You might be a vampire, but you’re not invincible.”
Rory opened his mouth to reassure her, but she was right. “I’m sorry, Dakota. I promise I’ll be more careful from now on.”
She smiled, hugging her best friend close. “You better, I hate the idea of facing off against a zombie vampire.” She chuckled,
Rory laughed as well, knowing she was right—craving both blood and brains was a recipe for disaster. Plus, he didn’t want to hurt his friends.
“So, what’s our next move?”
Dakota was about to answer when moaning in the distance made them jump. “We get out of here; zombies have taken over WC High, and the streets are not much better. We need somewhere to keep the infection from spreading and a place to keep us safe while we find a cure.”
Rory thought for a moment as Dakota led him away from the area. “I think I’ve got an idea.” He replied with a bright smile,
Dakota and Pink Pegasus creeped around the supermarket and checked things off the list; the zombies seemed to stick to the back of the store verses the front, so the two were undisturbed for the most part. But that didn’t mean their guard was down. Pink Pegasus flew around the aisles, making sure the coast was clear.
“Any sign of zombies?” She asked,
Pink Pegasus whinnied with a shake of her head; Dakota sighed, feeling safe enough to continue. The young teen grabbed a can of tomato soup and yelped, dropping it to the ground, when she saw a person behind the shelf.
However, once she saw those bright blue eyes and head full of blonde hair, she calmed down, knowing it was Rory.
“Oh, Rory, it was just you.” She sighed, placing a hand over her racing heart; she completely forgot Rory came with her.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” He stated, flying over the shelf and landing beside her, “What did you find?”
“I got tomato soup, some veggies, herbs, substitute blood ingredients, and cereal.” She listed off as Rory nodded, “What about you?”
“I got some oatmeal, moisturizer for Erica and Sarah, some soap, and hygiene products so we can shower, and I got some comfort food for Benny, Jane, and Ethan.” Dakota took a peek at Rory’s basket and saw some Little Debbie snacks, along with chips, soda pop, and marshmallows. She giggled at that Rory did love his marshmallows; they should head to a park and roast some in a few days.
“So, what’s next on the list?” He asked as the two walked around as if it were a normal day.
Dakota pressed her lips in a thin line, dreading what she was about to say. “Amy wants another sample of the coffee.”
“Are you serious? Didn’t they drink it all already?"
His partner shook her head. “Apparently another contaminated batch was delivered here recently. Amy fears more exposure to the De-Brainer could cause the infection to mutate either that or kill them. It’s risky, I know, and it’s an optional stop bu-
“I’ll do it.” He interrupted,
Dakota snapped her head towards him, “No, No Rory you don’t need to do that. I’ll go with you.”
“Dakota, it’s okay; you need to get our supplies back to base, and I’ve got the best chance out of anyone to get the coffee.”
Dakota shook her head, wanting to argue, but any words died in her throat as Rory pulled her into the tightest hug he could muster without breaking every bone in her body.
“It’s going to be okay, Dakota; I’m going to be okay.”
Dakota wanted to say something anything to change Rory’s mind. However, the blonde vampire let her go, kissed her, and super-speeded off.
She never should have let him go.
The young girl just stood there completely frozen, just staring at the spot where Rory was moments ago. Time slowed to a crawl as she struggled to regain motor function and rush back to home base to warn the others. She told Pink Pegasus to go on ahead and followed close behind; she burst open the door as the others jumped back, surprised by her outburst.
“Dakota, what happened?!” Amy shouted, knowing something had happened.
“R-Rory, he-he’s…
“Whoa, whoa, slow down.” Amy gestured, attempting to calm her down, and led her to a chair. “Start from the beginning—what happened and where’s Rory?”
Dakota took a deep breath and retelling her story.
“Rory and I were out scouting for supplies when I told him about the coffee sample and insisted he could grab it and left me behind. Now he’s out on his own and in danger.” She explained fighting back tears,
The gang gasped quickly, leaping into action as Ethan wordlessly ushered everyone to get their gear for a rescue and recovery mission. However, the door slammed open for the second time, revealing an injured Rory clutching his arm and slowly coming in before collapsing to the ground. It all happened so fast, Sarah screamed, causing Cindy, Erica, Mabel, and Chloe to run into the room and see Rory on the ground. Mabel started crying uncontrollably as Chloe tried to comfort her; Erica helped Amy and Cindy look over Rory’s wounds and found a bite mark on his shoulder. Even in his dazed state, Rory explained he had the sample in his sight. When Principal Hicks ambushed him, Rory tried to fight him off, but reinforcements caught him by surprise, and the gym teacher bit into his shoulder. He knew coming back was a terrible idea, but he couldn’t leave without at least saying goodbye.
Their final moments were spent cleaning up the wound so it wouldn’t get infected and saying their goodbyes. Dakota stayed with Rory the longest, keeping her distance as they walked and allowing her tears to flow freely. Rory tried to reassure her that he’d be okay and that they’d find the cure. But his slurred speech and slower movements just broke her heart even more.
It wasn’t long before the infection took over and instincts kicked in; Dakota barely escaped his attack, not that she was trying too. It was hard to fight with a broken heart; the loss of Rory’s presence hit harder than they’d thought. No one realized how much of an emotional support the blonde became until he was gone; his high energy and positive spirit really did make the situation feel hopeful, and now they were down a member and the pressure to find a cure felt more urgent. Amy started working twice as hard to cure the infection, but without another sample she was stuck. At that point they had no choice but to receive the coffee; however, they made sure they were more prepared before heading out, making extra sure they wouldn’t lose anyone else. Yet no matter how much planning and scoping out the area, things still went wrong.
For starters, there were more zombies than they remembered, all of which were circling around and protecting the source of their brain deadness; then Ethan, who managed to get a small cup if it, had to go and drop the sample, making the zombies hone in on him. The gang had no choice but to retreat; however, Benny stayed, forcing the others to leave him behind as he grabbed the coffee. There were too many zombies for the gang to come in and rescue him; even Erica and Sarah didn’t dare attempt a half-hearted plan, knowing it’d just make things worse.
Finally, after the zombies were cleared out and scattered to other parts of the store, Benny came out of hiding, coffee in hand and a clear bite visible on his upper arm. The screams of anguish still haunted Dakota and Ethan’s nightmares as they crowded around the spell master and hugged it out. They returned to the hideout with one less member, and somehow it just hit harder.
Shortly after Rory’s departure, Benny and Dakota became pretty close; he cared about Rory more than he ever let on and admitted Rory’s presence in the group just felt right, which was one of the main reasons they stayed friends after all these years. The two spent a lot of sleepless nights just talking, reminiscing about the past, ideas on what the future will hold, and other general chats to get their minds off the situation now her emotional support buddy was gone.
“It’s not fair.” She muttered tears streaming down her face as she recalled these painful memories. “It was supposed to us against the word! Now I’m all alone.” The young girl just sat there crying; it hurt. She lost Rory, she lost Benny, and the thought of losing her other friends haunted her every waking moment. It was just becoming too much; she just needed a moment to let it all out. Unbeknownst to her, a zombie heard her cries and started making their way over to her; once the sounds of their moans became apparent, Dakota turned around and screamed, immediately backing away.
“R-Rory…” She croaked, seeing her best friend for the first time in weeks; her heart ached at the sight of him, but she couldn’t let her emotions get the better of her. She grabbed the basket and booked it; however, Rory didn’t let her go that easily and began giving chase; it was her nightmare all over again. Rory was relentless; she couldn’t tell if it was because he recognized her or if he was that hungry for brains and blood, but for once she didn’t care. She dove behind and flew on top of shelves while gathering the last bit of supplies, god forbid; she didn’t want to return empty-handed.
Once she got what she needed, she hid inside a clothes rack, and it seemed to throw Rory off her scent. She waited with bated breath for what felt like eternity until she couldn’t feel Rory’s presence anymore. She pulled the clothes apart and stepped over the rack. Glancing at Pink Pegasus, who seemed to be okay, albeit a bit shaken but safe all the same.
“Come on, girl, let’s head back.”
The Petz Fantasy nodded, making sure to stay close in case they encounter another surprise attack; thankfully, they were only minutes away from home base. That didn’t stop Dakota’s thoughts from lingering on her short reunion with Rory; it hurt seeing him again after all this time. She missed him more than anything and had dreams of running away to be with him; however, those moments of weakness were short lived when the realization of Rory’s other curse would hit her. She didn’t know if becoming a zombie affected his ability to control his vampire venom, but she didn’t want to take any chances. Becoming a zombie was one thing; becoming a vampire hybrid was another; she knew the others would kill both of them if she did something that reckless.
She was almost back when someone grabbing her arm stopped her. She yelled, dropping the basket, and spun around to see Rory caught up to her.
“W-What do you want with me?” She questioned fearfully; she didn’t get a response; she knew she could get away, but she just couldn’t find the heart to take Rory out. closing her eyes, but no movement came, nor did the painful sting of her flesh being bit into. Dakota braced herself for what happened next. But no movement came, nor did the painful sting of her flesh being bit into. Dakota opened one of her eyes and was shocked to see Rory holding his other hand out, which held her cell phone.
The girl in his clutches gasped; she didn’t realize her phone fell out of her pocket; she slowly grabbed it out of Rory’s hand, who let it go easily. But he didn’t let his grip on her other hand go as he moved it, so she was cupping his cheek.
His former lover was a little fearful of this, but once she felt his smooth skin instead of hot breathing, she allowed herself to relax and take in this intimate moment. Rory’s skin was still soft and smooth despite its decaying and rough look; his temperature was the same, cold, but she felt warmth radiating beneath her fingertips. Now that she had time to drink in Rory’s features, his blue eyes still held a sparkle to them, like there was still a part of him underneath all the brain fog.
“I…” She swallowed, chocking on her words, “I miss you.”
“I…miss…you…too.”
Dakota could barely choke back a sob from hearing those words; she couldn’t keep it in as she threw her arms around her zombie vampire boyfriend. They just stayed safe in each other’s embrace until Rory pulled away, kissed her knuckles, and sped off.
“Dakota!” The young girl spun around in shock seeing Ethan, Amy, and Cindy running towards her.
“Hey, where have you been? You’ve been out for hours. Hey, are you okay?” He asked, seeing her tear-stained face,
Dakota smiled bittersweetly at the seer, not wanting to tell him who she saw. “Y-Yeah, I’m fine; I've just been thinking about Rory and Benny and got sorta emotional. I’m okay though.”
“Yeah, I know how you feel.” Ethan mirrored her bittersweet sadness; he really missed Benny. “I miss them too; we’ll save them, I promise.”
The other girl nodded, grabbing the basket off the ground, and followed the others inside. She spared one last glance towards the clothing section and saw Rory watching her; she gave him a tiny wave, to which he waved back before speeding off again. For the first time in ages she could smile; she didn’t know how it was possible, but somehow Rory was able to regain some form of awareness. It made her feel safe enough to seek him out when she headed out again.
Even as a zombie, he never wanted to eat her brains; he just wanted her heart, soul, and love, which was something he made very clear to Benny when he returned to their base and excitedly told him about his encounter with the love of his undead life. And the spell master couldn’t help but share those tears of joy since he too missed them all dearly.
End Notes: So, there we have it, I originally came up with this idea after having a dream. About being in a Walmart and seeing zombie Hicks and Rory after that the rest of the idea just came to me. I also love Zombie Rory he's so cute, he makes such a cute zombie. Anyway, this story is going on hiatus for a little bit I hope to work on it again soon but after getting a few more Halloween backlogged chapters for other fics out I'm going on break. With that said I hope everyone enjoyed my Halloween Extravaganza for the past two months I certainly enjoyed it. I hope to see you all next time and Happy Late Halloween.

Oops all Beechey Boys! for Terror (2018) playlists
As promised, if I finished them in time, here are John Hartnell, John Torrington, & William Braine playlists! Although technically only in the show in spirit/by name, I thought it would be a funny addition and honestly I do think about the Hartnell brothers often. It occured to me the approach I was going was already incorporating songs that were introduced to me by dearest companions, my family. So in John Hartnell's today, and when I post Tom Hartnell's playlist on Sunday, they were both made with those folks in mind, who mean everything to me. Not that this project is deep, i just play by my own rules. Thanks to anyone who checks these out in any capacity, peace and love on planet earth <3

okay hold on. idea for Sonic X Shadow Generations. would be EXTREMELY evil but all the Shadow fans would go insane
the fun thing about remastering a game very specifically involving time travel as a primary plot point is that, well. obviously when you're writing the game in 2011 you don't fucking know what the future looks like. there's probably other games in development sure but you can't say for certain what's going to happen so the future is just not touched on whatsoever. I mean technically there's 06 but that doesn't count. anyway. point is when you're approaching this game in the year of 2024 you have Options
but it wouldn't make sense to bring any stuff from beyond Generations in the main game, obviously; it's supposed to be a remaster and faithful retelling, after all! but then you look at the new story with Shadow that's supposed to be taking place at the same time, and...well. there's the chance for some Fun (read: pain) there
look all I'm saying is: imagine if Black Doom showed Shadow Sonic Forces. imagine Shadow seeing dozens, if not hundreds of himself, subjugating the world in Eggman's name. and then learning that no, this isn't a bad future like with Silver; this is what happens if Sonic wins. that even if Sonic stops Eggman's plot to rewrite history, Eggman will still take over the world one day. and Shadow will be one of the tools used to do so. would that not fuck with him a little. would that not be utterly horrifying to witness.
bonus points if Shadow's immediately thrown into a room with Infinite as he's trying to process this and now has to deal with an utterly livid jackal who fucking HATES him even though Shadow has no clue who this guy is
