HELLO ALL! welcome to another year of selfshiptober. i've noticed this is pretty much the 'official' selfship tober event now, which honestly warms my heart! i love seeing what this wonderful community does with my prompts :)

this year, i'm doing things a little differently. EACH DAY HAS TWO PROMPTS ASSIGNED TO IT. the first set is SHIPPY, while the second set is SPOOKY. you may either COMBINE THE TWO PROMPTS TOGETHER or CHOOSE ONE OF THE PROMPTS. the spooky prompts are a bit on the grittier side and probably won't appeal to most, so if you'd like to only use the first set of prompts and completely ignore the second, be my guest! on the other hand, if you prefer the gritter prompts, you can only use the second set of prompts, you can do that too! if you want an extra challenge, you can create a piece that incorporates both of the day's prompts. you can also change your approach depending on how you feel that day!

1) Absolute pro.

2) During the entire game, big bro has already set up His own server with tens of hundreds of buildings, houses and cities, on which all of Ignihyde plays...

But for you, beginners, He will of course make a new one.

3) Lives not in an ordinary house, but in a secret underground complex with hundreds of traps, secrets and secret passages. The entire dungeon is arranged quite professionally and beautifully, in a black and blue palette, using wool, clay, stone and several types of thin blocks and half-blocks, steps and other things. 16) When he learns that the goal of the game is to kill the dragon and take It's egg, his reaction is literally: ....Mother?🤨

17) He doesn’t want to fight with His relative, and when Idia kills the dragon, he bursts into His room with lightning and thunder in order to interrogate the corpse of Gloomurai, which did not survive several heart attacks.

18) Tsunotaro took the egg for Himself and built a kind of temple for It (Surrounded by gargoyles, of course), and sincerely waited for it to hatch, until Lilia, who came to the rescue, said that this was not possible in the game.

19) Conclusion: One was disappointed because He could not atone for the brutally murdered dragon mother and raise Her child, and the second, although He laughed amicably, still grabbed a couple of Vietnamese (Briar Valley) flashbacks.

A Year of Genocide

The Civil Defense Directorate in the Gaza Strip published statistics for the year of genocide on the Gaza Strip, which can be found in English and Arabic in the attached PDFs, or as a Flipbook here.

In the last year, 3,654 massacres were committed by the enemy, resulting in over 51,870 martyrs and missing people. 902 families were erased from the civil registry, and 36 were martyred by starvation. From these, 986 martyrs were medical staff, or about 1 in every 40 known martyr, 175 martyrs were journalists, and 85 are civil defense officers. 2,300 of these bodies were stolen by the IOF from 19 out of 60 cemeteries.

149,036 Gazans are either martyred, wounded, or missing, 69% of them children and women.

187 displacement shelters were targeted by the IOF, including 27 in the last two days.

462 schools and universities have been destroyed by the occupation, and 12,700 of the martyrs were students, while 750 of them were teachers, and 130 of them scientists and academics.

34 hospitals, 80 health centers, and 162 health centers were taken out of service, and 131 ambulances were targeted.

Out of 1,245 mosques, 815 of them were destroyed, in addition to three churches.

200,000 housing units were destroyed, using 85,000 tons of explosives, equivalent to six Hiroshima bombs.

3,130 km of electricity networks were destroyed, 330,000 meters of water networks, 655,000 meters of sewage networks, and 2,835,000 meters of road and street networks.

86% of the Gaza Strip has been destroyed.

Emma Lazarus

Born on 1849 in New York City to a family of Portuguese Sephardic Jewish descent whose roots extended to the very early days of NYC as a British colonial city.

Lazarus was the poet who wrote in 1883 "The New Colossus" - the famous poem that greets new immigrants to America till this day.

“...Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she with silent lips.

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

With those words, the Statue of Liberty was given life and purpose beyond that of a monument to liberal ideals, becoming a beacon of hope for the refugees seeking freedom from the terror of persecution.

The poem was placed on the Statue of Liberty in 1903 (after her death).

Aside from writing, Lazarus was also involved in charitable work for refugees.

At Ward's Island, she worked as an aide for Jewish immigrants who had been detained by Castle Garden immigration officials.

She was deeply moved by the plight of the Russian Jews she met there and these experiences influenced her writing.

The Jewish themes she had never dealt with before erupted in her work.

Emma Lazarus died November 19, 1887 (aged 38) in New York City, most likely from Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Lazarus was buried in Beth Olam Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Her papers are kept by the American Jewish Historical Society, Center for Jewish History, and her letters are collected at Columbia University.

Journalist Mahmoud Abusalama interviews Sabrine Ayesh, also known as Umm Ahmad. She describes the crushing series of losses which she has suffered at the hands of the IOF. A full English translation by Instagram user faridaek is posted under the cut, but it is graphic at times and very upsetting, so use discretion. Her husband was murdered in the 2008 war, and now in 2023 all of her children and her expected grandchild have been martyred, and her home destroyed.

M: We start this segment with a new story, one that illustrates how grief may ease for a day, only for tears to flare up anew. We share the story of Sabrine Ayesh, known as Umm Ahmad, who lost her husband in a previous Gaza war. This recent conflict has brought on further tragedy, robbing her of the majority of her family, including two young men and her pregnant daughter, who was in her seventh month. And the story doesn't end there - her house was also destroyed. Umm Ahmad, may God reward you for your loss.

U: Thank you for your efforts.

M: Could you tell us what happened?

U: My story began at 25, a time when life was beginning to brighten for our small, happy family. Then, unexpectedly, the War of Al-Furgan in 2008 happened, and we were shocked by my husband's martyrdom on the tenth day of the war. He was my rock, support system and foundation of my life. We had three children: my daughter Aseel, then 6; my son Ahmad, 4; and my youngest, Abdul Rahman, just a year and a half.

U: At the start of this war, my only daughter Aseel had just celebrated her 1 year wedding anniversary and was 7 months pregnant, and we were overjoyed for her. Her life was just starting. But the war in North Gaza was vicious and relentless. Aseel and her husband evacuated to Deir al-Balah, given that the Israelis had said it was a safe area.

M: Because Deir al-Balah was considered safer for a newlywed in her seventh month of pregnancy...

U: Yes. She was our pride and joy, my eldest daughter, a new bride, and pregnant. She relocated there on a Saturday, the tenth day of the war. But merely a week later, the house adjacent to hers was bombed. She was martyred on Thursday the 19th twelve days into the war. But merely a week later, the house adjacent to hers was bombed. They tried to save her unborn child but couldn't as the baby was expelled from her stomach because of how severe the bombing was.

M: The baby was expelled from his mother's womb, you mean?

U: Yes, from my daughter's womb. We buried her in Deir al-Balah because it was too difficult to bring her back, although my daughter herself had wished to be buried with her father in the Fallujah cemetery, but her dream went unfulfilled. She was martyred and joined her father. Her death was the first shock. Then on the 18th of November, precisely on the 1 month anniversary of my daughter's martyrdom, my son Ahmad, who was 19 years old, and my son Abdul Rahman, 17 years old, were martyred when the occupation bombed an area that was deemed safe.

M: Both were martyred at the same time?

U: At the very same moment. What made their death particularly hard was that the ambulances couldn't reach the area they were in due to how dangerous it was. So my sons were just left lying there, on the street, unable to be reached by anyone for almost a week, until the ceasefire happened.

M: So you're saying their bodies were left in the street for a week?

U: Yes.

M: And the area was still besieged by the occupation tanks.

U: Yes. The occupation tanks were still surrounding the area we were in, and may God preserve our dignity, there were many dogs roaming around the area as well. Then, after the ceasefire, we were able to bury them. We found my son Abdul Rahman with his grandfather right at the doorstep. But thank God, by the grace of our Lord, the body was as it was, not eaten by dogs or anything like that. And we buried him quickly; I couldn't even say goodbye to him because it had already been a week since his death. We were then shocked to find that Ahmad's body was missing. We spent the entire ceasefire period, a full week, searching for his body among the rubble. We learned that on the day after, 11 days since he was martyred, on the last day of the ceasefire, a group of young men who had come to collect firewood found him. The occupation's bulldozer had scooped up my son Ahmad, may God have mercy on him, and thrown him on a pile of rubble, buried in a way that only part of him was visible. Thankfully, the ambulance and civil defense came and retrieved his body.

M: So even after he was already martyred, your son's body was crushed and thrown in with the rubble of the destroyed homes?

U: Exactly. And that was the hardest thing for us. The bigger catastrophe for us was not knowing where my son was whether they took him or not. But thank God we found his body, and I couldn't even say goodbye to him either. Now I don't know where my children are buried, I didn't see their graves because the occupation's bulldozers and tanks were stationed in Beit Lahia, in our area. After the occupation entered the area, I don't know if the graves remained as they were or not. I mean, I'm waiting for the war to end so I can see.

M: So, we're talking about a mother of two martyrs who didn't say goodbye to her sons and doesn't know where their graves are.

U: Yes. I'm waiting with bated breath for the war to end so I can look for their graves and see them at least. I mean, I didn't even bid them farewell, and they weren't buried next to their father, neither my daughter nor my two sons. Thankfully, before the war, I had posted on Instagram saying that my kids are now the mountain I lean on. But now, that mountain is gone. I'm truly exhausted and broken. These three children, I was eagerly waiting for when they would grow up and become young adults. They had a good life and were very kind and affectionate with me, but thank God, may they be with our Lord in paradise. In this situation we're living in, I no longer worry about them now, they're in a safe place, it's the place we're living in that isn't safe. Now they've joined their father and sister, thank God. God willing, we will reunite in the highest level of paradise. But my story doesn't end there either. On the 55th day of the war, my house, which was filled with warmth and memories with all of my children, was bombed. Every corner of the house tells a story and holds memories of my children, I could still hear their voices in that house. I hope the war will end peacefully, so I can visit my children's graves and see my daughter who was buried in Deir al-Balah, because I don't know if her grave is still there or not. Is the grave still as it was? Will we find it intact? At least when I'll see my daughter's grave, l'll be able to find a bit of relief, I can talk to her, and she can talk to me. God willing, after the war, I'll be able to find some reassurance. I still can't bear the agony of separation, the pain of parting with my children. Yes the war is incredibly brutal, but the pain I live with every day, the agony of separation, my memories of them, are even more brutal. May God strengthen our hearts and give us patience.

M: May God have mercy on them. This is one of the many testimonies of the occupation's massacres. okay okay so I think this is what happened (and this is all about death and dying obviously so here's a read more)

my dad died of cancer and I was his carer for about the last 6 months. it increased as he got worse, so the last ~3 months I basically did nothing else, I slept 2 hours at a time at most because he'd get out of his hospital bed on his own to try to go to the bathroom. so he'd usually end up on the floor unable to get up and I'd have to go help him back into bed. but whatever, the only reason I'm explaining that is that I was very very tired and exhausted and basically not well.

but, I don't remember when exactly he died. I think it must have been a Friday night though? because I know when we called my mother to tell her, she insisted that we don't call a doctor to confirm his death until the Monday (because you're allowed to wait 48 hours or something, I didn't check, and I won't now, it was the worst 2/3 days of my life so I don't want to think about it)

it wasn't the Monday he died on, that was just when the doctor came (his GP, who looked at him for one second from the door and went yeah okay he's dead, goodbye and left basically). so it wasn't the 19th, it must have been the 16th. what the fuck man this is messing with my head

just looked at the time and saw that it's the 19th already (I don't know what date it is, why would I, I don't do anything). so it's the 7th anniversary of the day my dad died.

Or more precisely, we are imagining a sane world after the virus, one where, instead of just trying to put things back the way they were, we act on what we’ve learned. For instance, a huge proportion of office work, especially administrative, managerial, marketing, legal, finance, consultancy and the like have shown themselves to be pure bullshit. If they disappeared, it would either make no difference or the world might even be a slightly better place. The proof is that during the crisis, most of them did disappear and the world kept spinning. So imagine for a moment we are sane and don’t just go back to pretending there’s some reason to have all these people bluffing to make us think they work all day but instead got rid of the bullshit jobs. Well, one question would be: what would we do with all the buildings where they used to work? Obviously, those actually useful workers who kept us alive and cared for during the epidemic – doctors, nurses, cleaners, couriers, electricians, farmers – don’t need giant glass buildings to make them feel important. Some can be blown up. This will be good because it means there will be less energy use to keep them heated, cooled and so forth, which will reduce carbon emissions. But surely we wouldn’t want to blow up all of them.

After the French and Russian revolutions, the royal palaces were turned into state museums. That might point to one sane way to use them. But there’s also a crazy way: a return to “normalcy”. The model for this might be what happened after the large-scale deindustrialization of western metropolises, when former factories and warehouses were turned into private art centers, offices and condominiums for the kind of people who worked in them. Many find it hard to imagine this won’t happen again, if there is rapid de-bullshitization of work, but no real change to the financial system, or structures of wealth and power more generally. Empty offices would be bought up by investors, who would turn them into expensive condominiums or private art spaces whose presence will give the real estate additional market value. The only alternative usually put on the table is if the state takes over everything, either in the form of state socialism (which is basically just state-monopoly capitalism) or its right-wing “national-socialist” variant (in whatever updated 21st century form).

In that future, those empty offices not used to house bureaucrats or secret police will be turned into state museums: conservative, elitist institutions whose general ambiance balances somewhere between that of a cemetery and that of a bank. We would like to insist on the possibility – perhaps not the likelihood, but at least the possibility – of sanity. Imagine that the experience of lockdown and economic collapse actually allows us to see the world as it really is and we acknowledge that what’s referred to as “an economy” is simply the way we collectively keep each other alive, provision each other with the things we need and generally take care of one another. Say we also reject the notion of social control.

Prisons, after all, provide food, shelter and even basic medical care. Still, they are not “caring” institutions. What they provide is not care because real care is directed not just at supplying material needs, not even just to allow others to grow and thrive, but also, to maintain or enhance their freedom. Imagine we jettison the idea of production and consumption being the sole purpose of economic life and substitute care and freedom. What would we do with the buildings then?

In a world built around care and solidarity, much of this vast and absurd office space would indeed be blown up, but others could be turned into free city universities, social centers and hotels for those in need of shelter. We could call them ‘Museums of Care’ — precisely because they are spaces that do not celebrate production of any sort but rather provide the space and means for the creation of social relationships and the imagining of entirely new forms of social relations.
