September 1990. One of the bright spots of the continuity-related editorial battles that beset the "v4" LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES book was Laurel Gand, introduced in LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #6 and retroactively inserted in Legion history to replace Supergirl, who in this period was considered editorially off-limits. Laurel was a Daxamite, with the same powers as Supergirl (albeit with slightly different weaknesses), but she wasn't tied to Superman and she wasn't a time traveler, so her place in the Legion wasn't constrained in the ways Supergirl's had been. Like Supergirl, Laurel dated Brainiac 5, but after their messy breakup, she later got involved with his best friend, Rond Vidar, probably at least partly in hopes of getting a rise out of Brainy. However, Laurel then caught feelings for Rond and had a baby with him, while still secretly carrying a torch for Brainy. Oops! None of that would have been editorially permissible for Supergirl, nor would Laurel's super-thong.
I always liked Laurel and wish the series had made more use of her, but DC in this era was in the throes of its recurring misconception that allowing other characters with powers like Superman's somehow weakens the Superman franchise. She was apparently killed off after Keith Giffen and the Bierbaums left the book, and while a version of Laurel was reintroduced following the dreadful ZERO HOUR reboot, she was recast as a literal space nun, "Sister Andromeda"! Awful.

I have unintentionally developed this whole post-Vol 2/pre-flashpoint timeline for Booster Gold and his little time travel family. There are three major components:
Rip Hunter is not around anymore. He’s not dead, obviously, but it’s reached a point in their personal timelines where they’re meant to separate. Rip can’t mentor the younger version of his dad forever nor should he. Booster has learned everything he needs to know from Rip, and now it’s time to part ways and make their own choices without the future influencing them. While Booster does occasionally come across younger and less experienced versions of Rip Hunter, all future Rips have effectively disappeared. Now separated, Booster sets up his own base elsewhere.
Booster and Michelle raise Rani in Neo-Gotham. Specifically the early 22nd century. This is Neo-Gotham at the end of Terry’s Batman career. It is more or less implied that sometime in the 22nd century, a nuclear war breaks out and gives way to the next dark ages. You can’t leave traces/ripples if they’re wiped from existence. Booster is still active in the 21st century by virtue of being an established hero there, but once keeping up appearances is over, he returns to the 22nd. Michelle stays in the 22nd century and just lives her life there.
Booster’s mystery future wife is Trixie Collins. After reuniting at some nebulous future date and going through a whole crisis together, Trixie can’t go back to her (unfulfilling) life, so Booster moves her to the 22nd century. At some point, she and Booster decide to act on the chemistry from their early years, and Rip is unintentionally conceived. Booster decides to retire from the 21st century hero scene, and they get married. But pretty early on, they realize that they’re not really romantically interested in each other. It’s partly acknowledgement of comphet society and that they’re both decidedly on the far side of the Kinsey Scale and also Booster is more or less too traumatized to truly emotionally connect to another person anymore. Booster and Trixie are still on good terms, so they stay married (and eventually come to consider each other best friends). And by virtue of being married, Trixie ends up getting more involved in Booster’s time cop thing and starts handling his logistics. They make a great team.
So from here, my brain came up with the following scenario:
Rani wants to become a superhero.
Rani-centric story idea under the cut. This one really got away from me.
The 22nd century is absolutely not a good time to get into heroics, and Rani knows that. That’s exactly why Booster chose it.
Rani has her own super power set, but it's not combat oriented. But there is this desire baked into her soul, so she takes a page (a whole chapter, really) from Booster Gold’s book. She steals a power suit and a time sphere and… doesn’t quite succeed as planned.
Instead of 1990s Metropolis, Rani finds herself in mid-21st century Gotham, the height of the legacy generation of heroes. Much to Rani's annoyance, Booster asked Nightwing and a not-quite-yet-retired Batman to keep an eye on her. It's mostly to prevent anyone else from solidly putting together that "Gold Star" is the infamous Booster Gold's daughter. Having the Bats' backing also means Rani isn't just plopped into the world with no legal records or emergency contacts.
Rani's story is mostly hijinks and heroics.
She's a D-list hero who frequently finds herself teaming up with other heroes, but she struggles to connect with any teams.
She keeps running into Legionnaires investigating some sort of intricate time travel plot and finds herself fighting alongside them to save the world. Unlike the 21st century heroes, Rani does connect with the 31st century heroes.
Sometimes, Rani also gets caught up in the Carter family business and gets swept away on a few time traveling adventurers with characters like Gold Beetle, a younger Rip Hunter (and Jack Soo), and even her baby brother, Junior.
In her downtime, Rani works part-time and does a few odd jobs here and there. Her saving grace is that she doesn't have to pay rent since she "inherited" Booster's townhouse.
Specific plot points include:
Booster's old JLI teammates immediately recognizing that Rani is Booster's daughter. They are equal parts glad that he's out there somewhere just living well instead of dead in a ditch, forgotten, and also hurt that Booster never introduced his family to them and that they had to find out from his teenage daughter.
In Time Masters: Vanishing Point #5, Booster warps their home to the end of time in order to lose the time assassins that had been chasing them. Time pirates also got to Rani in order to get the location of Vanishing Point from her, but she doesn't know it since Booster (with Trixie and Junior) abandoned the 22nd century shortly after Rani left. While the Carters frequently visit Rani, Rani doesn't have the means to visit them.
Rani overcomes her avoidance of the 31st century in order to save the world. While there, she becomes an official reserve member of the Legion. She returns to the 21st century anyway, not yet ready to give up on it.
Give me the Booster Gold: Convergence plot line, and Rani has to deal with the aftermath.. or maybe just ignore the whole Convergence thing and straight up rip off the time cancer subplot. Booster is bouncing through time uncontrollably, and Rani , Michelle, and an older Rip are chasing him down until they end up in the 90s (Rani finally gets a glimpse of the 90s and is disappointed) and find Booster in Ted's lab. Rani takes the place of N52 Booster in this. Everyone goes to Vanishing Point, and Booster transforms into Waverider. That has some wildly angsty potential.
The time cancer plot ends with Waverider returning everyone to their intended times. There's no universe-shattering crisis this time, so it's more like Waverider just isn't fully in-tune with his powers yet and fixed the anomalies by instinct rather than intent. It does mean that Rani finds herself in the 31st century and needs to be rescued from a dead planet and her own panic attack by the Legion.
Rani, fully attached to the Legion of Superheroes, officially-officially joins their group and decides to permanently stay in the 31st century as a hero.
Other notes:
There are also some implications that Booster may be nudging events in certain directions to keep the flow of time steady. Unbeknowst to Rani, Booster pre-programmed a different year and location for her to land in and disguised it as a glitch. He may or may have also arranged for some run-ins between her and some Legionnaires.
There’s a little hint at an abandoned Rani-centric plot thread towards the end of Vol 2. My guess is that there was supposed to be a 31st century arc for Booster Gold where he'd earn the trust and friendship of Braniac 5. I'm also guessing that Rani, who is shown to be a literal super genius, is more important than initially believed. She was probably supposed to be returned to the 31st century to fullfil some sort of essential role and subsequently not be adopted by the Carters because DC is allergic to happy parent-child relationships. I will be ignoring this guess.
Rani still has PTSD from Daxam's destruction and suffers from anxiety in her day-to-day. While she should have been returned to her intended place in the 31st century, she was too distressed by 1) being unadopted by Booster and 2) being in the time Daxam was destroyed and Emerald Empress is lose. Altogether, it was decided that Rani would stay with Booster and Michelle (and Rip as well, at the time). Either way, Rani refused to step foot in the 31st century, so Booster only ever brought his son of the two to visit Brainiac. Rani's knowledge of the Legion is restricted to what Booster and Junior have told her.

I originally had parts of this tale from Lena's POV, but then decided it was better to stay in Kara's POV. I wanted to also show how DID can make a person's behavior seem inconsistent in the mood and behavioral changes. Internally, it is consistent as each alter has a specific way of behaving, thinking, and expressing themself. But to an outsider who doesn't know about DID, it may seen confusing.
EXCERPT:
Kara's Tale Part 3
One of Kara's professors told her that stories weave people together. Through the shared experience of a tale, people understand, hope is built, and a new landscape grows. With truth (shokh) so out of reach due to her secret, Kara adapts to the realm of stories. She devours books at the library, reads magazines by the armload, and stitches together an understanding of Western America's version of story-telling. Digging further embroils her in storytelling throughout cultures, each a different flavor, and hold markedly different techniques from another. And yet, all shine with overlapping concepts rooted in humanity's tendency toward cooperation, curiosity, care, and control.
Within such vaulted halls of writing, Kara Danvers accepts the junior journalist position from Cat Grant.
"Finally. Will get you out of my hair." Cat waves her toward the bullpen. "Shoo. You're Snapper's problem now." A smile creases her stern face despite her dismissive words. Being Cat's assistant had been a stressful job. Cat constantly pushed her in ways that made her anxious. Often fails to call her by her correct name half the time — Kara thinks it was some sort of weird powerplay that humans do — but she always does right by Kara. This is no different.
Snapper Carl hunches as if caught in an eternal stooping to examine covers. He nibbles on a cigar, but it's never lit, and his balding hair is slicked back. His sleeves are perpetually rolled to his elbows regardless of weather. When Kara walks up to him to greet him as a junior reporter, he pulls a silver pocketwatch from his vest pocket and taps it. "Late, kiddo. Go talk to James and Siobhan. Get me a write up on the artists at that ridiculous fashion convention."
"Will do." Kara blinks at him, confused. She expected training like her first day as Cat's assistant. When he glares at her and taps his watch again, she hurries across the bullpen to where James stands by the copier. "Hey, Snapper said you'd help me out?"
"Kara, you took the role?" James grins and slaps her shoulder. "Glad you're joining us. Let me show you your desk, and let's get started on that fashion convention."
Kara has superspeed, but this whirlwind spins her out of calibration. Her first few days are a crash course in journalism. She hopes to do investigative journalism, but Snapper takes one look at her, grunts, and tells her to earn it first. She helps James and Siobhan cover the convention, sets up her desk, and sits in as a participant in the daily meetings, rather than just a note-taker. It feels liberating almost, and it gives her a healthy distraction from her simmering resentment toward Kal.
She checks her phone often, but Lena does not text. At some point, she receives a text from Alex instead, and guilt saturates her. Technically, Kara-Z and Alex fought, but Kara-D knows Alex won't accept that excuse.

Nenah lore rewrite!
Okay so since I made her part Daxamite I find it hard to believe that the Thanagarian slavers would capture her and take her to another planet without issue. Even if they exploit her lead allergy she’d still be hard to handle.
So!
Byth’s MOM was a slave and then brought back to Earth.
Byth will meet Nenah when he goes to visit Earth and they actually get into a fight and he sort of gets attracted to her that way.

[Sort of an aftermath/continuation of my previous post??]
Today was the day. Kara was going to walk into Lena's office, and she was going to tell her everything. 'Everything' being the fact that she was Supergirl, her true name Kara Zor-El. Not the other part of everything. Not the part where she found herself wanting to simply be near the CEO. Where she couldn't spend a second without thinking about her. No, it was all too sudden, and she was still trying to figure out what this all meant. She had just lost Mon-el, and she almost lost Lena, too. Surely, this was an aftershock. The first secret was big enough, anyway.
She paced back and forth along her kitchen floor, going over the exact words she planned on saying to Lena so that she wouldn't mess up. No matter what, she had to do it. She couldn't hold it off for any longer. Not when the hints were getting too obvious and the lies were getting too absurd. She didn't like lying in the first place. Especially to her best friend. And it wasn't like she didn't trust her after all of this time. Of course she did! It was just that she never knew how to bring it up. Saying something like "Hey, Lena. I don't know if I ever mentioned this before, but I'm Supergirl. Tada" didn't seem very appropriate.
Whatever the excuse, she just couldn't let another day go by without telling her. Since the day they teamed up to save Lena, Lillian Luthor's words echoed through her mind:
"Eventually, she'll find out on her own. Find out that you've been lying to her all this time. And when she does? She'll hate you for it."
She knew Lillian was only trying to get in her head with that statement, but she couldn't help but find truth in it. Her friendship with Lena has only grown since they met. And Lena has opened up to her on numerous occasions. Sometimes, to her own surprise. She didn't deserve to be lied to again. She put her trust in too many people just to watch them betray it. Kara was not going to be one of the many. She was determined to show her friend that she appreciated her trust. She wanted to open up to her, too. Because friendship takes mutual effort, and Lena deserves it all.
With that, Kara stopped in her tracks. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She whispered a quick "I can do this" to herself before nodding in resolution and taking to the skies to LCorp.
When she got off the elevator, she gave a casual greeting to Jess, who in turn gave her a brief smile and nod, indicating that she was welcome to walk in the office. Despite the 'go ahead', she knocked on the door just in case before going inside.
Lena must not have heard the knocking because when Kara stepped foot in the office, she was sitting in her desk chair, squinting at her computer screen in concentration. She looked immersed in her work, and Kara almost felt like she was intruding, but she took the time to admire her friend. Her black hair was put up in a bun today. A few strands seem to have escaped the rest and lightly rested near the sides of her face. Her eyes looked sharp as they often do, but she also had deep bags. Kara didn't blame her for not being able to get much sleep after all that has happened. If anything, she didn't want to have to stress her out any more than she already looked.
Swiftly, Kara walked up to the desk and cleared her throat. Lena looked up, and her eyes softened as soon as she registered who was in the room with her.
"Kara, hi" she greeted as a light smile graced her lips and she stood up. "What brings you here today?"
Kara adjusted the glasses on her face as it was a natural habit when she was nervous. "Hi Lena. I just came to visit and see how you were doing. And to tell you something important," she mumbled the last part.
Lena approached her and her hand lightly pressed against Kara's lower back, guiding her to the couch. When they took a seat, their knees touched which didn't go unnoticed by either party.
"Is everything okay?" Lena asked, concern etched into her voice. She always seemed to sense when Kara was conflicted or anxious. And she always asked about it, which only made Kara want to confess to her more because of how much she genuinely cared.
Kara played with her fingers, "Yes. Um. I just- Well... How are you?" She managed to stutter out, looking up into green eyes that stared back in question.
"I could be better," Lena answered truthfully. "But the real question is how are you? Your boyfriend- Mike, was it? - he just-"
Kara swallowed thickly. She wasn't expecting the counter question, although she should've, considering Lena always asked. If she was being honest, she hadn't thought about how she felt about the whole situation since it happened. She tried to ignore her feelings and be productive. Continue being Supergirl. It helped for a bit, but now that she was being asked, she didn't know if she could keep it in anymore.
"Mike, yeah. He took my pod and he-" She started choking on her words and a sob escaped her without permission. She didn't come here to talk about what happened. She didn't come here to cry about her (ex?) boyfriend. But that's what she ended up doing when she felt the tears form up in the corners of her eyes. She didn't even realize her slip up.
In little time, Lena was wrapping Kara in a strong and warm hug. "I'm so sorry that had to happen," she whispered.
Kara hugged the brunette back and cried into her shoulder. She felt Lena run a hand through her ponytail, taking it out in one felt swoop and massaging it. It was calming, but it didn't stop the tears that were already running down her cheeks.
"I miss him," she said weakly. And she did miss him. It has only been a few days, but she could already feel the difference it was making. She wished that he was still on earth with her and that they could continue living their lives as if his mother had never even come to earth in the first place. But now..
"And you have every right to. Look at me," Lena pushed Kara's shoulders away gently so they could look at each other. She looked into Kara's blue eyes that were still filled with tears. Wiping them away with a thumb to either side, Kara's glasses lifted up with each movement. Then, holding her face in between her hands, she said, "You are a strong woman. Stronger than you know. Your boyfriend? He sacrificed his life on earth for the rest of us. That was a noble thing to do. Crying is always okay, Kara. But just know that you two are still connected in here," she placed two fingers on her head. "And in here," she pointed to Kara's heart.
Kara nodded and smiled, wiping away the rest of her tears. "Thank you," she sniffed. "Really." She was more than grateful that Lena cared about her feelings. "And sorry for getting your sweater all..."
"It's alright. It was getting warm anyways," Lena said, slipping off said sweater and placing it down on the armrest of the couch.
They sat in a semi-comfortable silence for a few moments. Kara was still sniffling and quietly thanked Lena when she got up to get a box of tissues. Lena waited patiently until her dear friend was ready to speak again.
"Sorry you had to see that," Kara apologized once again.
"Don't be," Lena replied before the taller woman could say anything else. "You were there to comfort me back when Jack...," she was looking down at the floor when she said this, trying to hide her melancholic response to the memory. She raised her head to look into Kara's blue eyes again, reaching out to one of her hands and squeezing it lightly in assurance, "The least I could do is return the favor."
Kara smiled at the comment and, once again, gave a sincere "Thank you." She was perfectly okay with just spending the remainder of her visit sitting on Lena's couch and talking to her about various things. Both everything and nothing almost simultaneously, like they were so used to doing. She longed to change the subject to something more pleasant. Something happier than death or separation. And then she remembered.
"I almost forgot!" She blurted out suddenly, catching the businesswoman by surprise. "I have to tell you something," she started. And just like that, the nerves came back to her. She was anxious of what the other woman's response would be. What if she really did begin to hate her like Lillian said? She wouldn't know what to do if she added on to the grief that Lena had already experienced in her life. If she never wanted to see her again, she would oblige, but Kara wouldn't be able to go on if she lost another person that she cared deeply for in such a short time. She didn't want that to happen at all, but if that were the case, she wouldn't be able to stop her.
"What is it?" Lena asked, snapping the reporter out of her thoughts and back to the brunette sitting next to her.
She started fidgeting again. "It's important that you know."
Lena did the thing where she rose her eyebrow just a bit, curious, her undivided attention on Kara. She watched as Kara slid off her glasses and placed them on the table in front of them. Her eyes widened as Kara started unbuttoning her shirt and she promptly looked away.
Clearing her throat and trying to hide her oncoming blush she asked, "Kara, what are you doing?"
Said woman noticed the squeak in her voice and looked up after fumbling with one of the buttons to see that Lena was no longer looking at her. "I'm-" she paused. She looked down to her shirt that was almost all the way open and back to Lena, who was looking away awkwardly. Her face was redder than before. Then it clicked. Oh Rao.
"It's not what it looks like!! I- there are clothes underneath this! It was- this is a part of what I wanted to tell you!"
Lena took a moment to breathe again before she slowly turned her head back around. She sighed in relief when she saw that Kara was not indeed stripping in her office with just the two of them. What she saw instead was a very familiar outfit worn by a certain superhero who she has grown to respect and regard as a friend. The red symbol outlined by yellow for the House of El stood out among the rest of her attire. Before Lena knew it, her hand was on Kara's chest, tracing out the 'S' and the pentagon surrounding it.
"I'm Supergirl," Kara said quietly, as if saying it any louder would give the secret away to the whole world.
Lena's finger stopped tracing along the crest, much to Kara's displeasure for reasons she didn't know. Her hand went up to Supergirl's face to put a stray strand of her hair behind her ear.
"I know," she smiled crookedly. These two simple words held more feeling and explanation than any other. It held memories of all the little accidental slip ups that Kara thought she could get away with, but Lena had a keen eye. It held the intense relief Lena felt all of those times Supergirl saved her from death. But it also held the dullness that she felt at having to live in the image of the villain everyone made her out to be. It held the pain of all the times Kara lost her loved ones. Lost her planet. Lost herself to her thoughts. It held the weight of the world. And it held the forgiveness Lena had for Kara not telling her sooner because she understood. Lena knew this. Kara knew this. And if nobody else did, then it was okay because it was only important for the two of them.

Forever Valentine
Mon-El of Daxum
Summary: Fluff, light romance, supergirl characters
Tumblr media
AURORA’S POV
“Mon-El.” I whisper sleepily, keeping my eyes closed as I shuffle over toward the warmth as it’s slowly been drawn away from me.
“Right here.” I sigh contently when I hear his response, resting my head back onto his chest as I feel my eyes getting heavier once again. “Go back to sleep, sleeping beauty.”
A small smile makes its way onto my lips at the nickname, and I hum slightly in response, possibly incoherent as I let myself fall back asleep, the warmth once again taking over.
MON-EL’S POV
I smile down at the girl laying against me, her head on my chest as I hear her soft, gentle breaths while she sleeps.
How did I manage to get so Lucky?
Sitting still, not wanting to disturb her once again, I lay there, bringing my free arm up to her head and letting my hand gently run through her hair.
The sound of my phone ringing cuts into the silence, and I immediately cringe, not wanting to disturb Aurora anymore than I already had.
As I’m about to reach for my phone, her left arm moves up to my chest, her hand gripping onto my shirt and tugging slightly as if she was holding on for her life.
Sighing, I place my hand over where hers was gripping my shirt, hoping to ease whatever was running through her mind as I grab my phone off the bedside table.
“Hello?” I whisper groggily into the speaker.
“Mon-El! Buddy!” Winn’s voice travels across the phone. “Why do you sound like you just woke up?”
“Well Winn, because I practically just did.”
“Oh, shit, sorry man.” He huffs lightly on the other end of the line.
“No problem. Is everything alright?” I ask, keeping my voice down.
“Yes, well no.”
“Details Winn.”
“Right, yes, okay. So I know it’s the day of love and all that Jazz and technically you were given off for the day, but J’onn needs you to come in.” I shut my eyes for a moment, thinking over his words before speaking.
“Any clue what it’s about?”
“Something about some alien from Daxum? Does that sound like a possibility?”
“At this point Winn, I wouldn’t even question if you told me you were an alien too.”
“Unfortunately, I’m not. Though it would be cool to have some sort of powers, and a cool background story.” He rambles on, making me chuckle softly. “Yeah anyways, when can you get here?”
“I just need to get out of bed, give me ten minutes, fifteen at max.”
“Okay, see you soon man.” With that, I hang up the call, sighing as I look down at Aurora.
“‘M sorry gorgeous, I’ll be back soon.” I unclasp her hand from my shirt, pulling back and sliding a cushion into my spot to replace where I was laying.
I quickly move around the room and into bathroom, getting ready as quickly and quietly as possible before walking back into my room.
I walk back over to the bed, leaning down to place a kiss on Aurora’s forehead before leaving the room and making my way over to the DEO’s headquarters.
- - -
“Okay, I’m here!” I announce, landing on the porch as I make my way down the steps and towards the mainframe of computers.
“Woah, that was quick.” Winn spins around in his chair to face me.
“Part of the job man, is it not?”
“Yeah, sorry about making you leave Aurora by the way.” His eyes flash with sympathy and I just shake my head slowly.
“She’s still sleeping, hopefully I’ll be back before she’s up, but don’t sweat it okay?”
“Noted. No sweating it.” I can’t help but laugh at his words. “Wanna quick brief before the others show up?”
“Hit me.”
With that, he spins his chair back round, his fingers flying over the keys, and in a matter of seconds, an imagine is being displayed on the main screen.
“That’s a-“
“A Xyled.”
“You’re familiar with it?”
“Yeah, they used to attack quite a lot, back on Daxum.”
“Mon-El, thanks for coming in.” At the sound of the voice, I turn away from the screen and walk over to the platform table in the middle of the room.
“Always here to help J’onn, you know that.”
“Kara was able to identify that this creature was from Daxum, but that’s about it.” I turn to look over at her, seeing her nod in agreement to J’onn’s words.
“I only ever heard of them from my parents, I suppose having the expert here is our best bet at getting more information.” She smiles at me, and I nod in understanding.
“What can you tell us about this Xyled creature?” J’onn asks, leaning forward against the platform.
“They’re known for their violence, they do not care what they destroy or who they hurt, they just want to do whatever they aim to do.”
“Oh, we’ll that’s just great.” Kara perks up sarcastically, making me chuckle. “Talk about a Valentine’s Day gift.”
“They used to lead constant attacks against the Royal Family back on Daxum.”
“So what are they doing here?” One of the agents pipes up.
“They must have survived after the Daxamite invasion. Probably been in hiding somewhere, waiting to attack.”
“Has it attacked yet?”
“Yep, about three hours ago at Queen’s park, another an hour ago at the Royal Mandarin, center of national city.” Winn recites, looking down at his tablet.
“That’s no coincidence. Mon-El, you said something about them attacking the Royal Family?”
“That was their goal. Ultimate destruction of the monarchy I suppose.”
“It’s attacking places that it could possibly find some type of Royalty.”
I watch as Winn pulls up a video of the attack on the screen, watching the Xyled rampage through a park, scaring tons of innocent people.
“Not some type, it’s hunting me.” I say breathlessly, hearing the alien shout my name in it’s language right before it runs away. “It just called me out.”
“You can speak their language?” Kara asks curiously, getting a nod in response.
“Yeah, my parents forced me to learn a lot of languages when I was younger. Guess they did something right.” I shrug, leaning my forearms against the platform. “So what’s the plan?”
“I think maybe you should sit this one out Mon-El.” Alex speaks up, and I immediately disagree.
“No, she’s right. If the creature is hunting you, you should stay as far away as possible.” Kara says, agreeing with her sister.
“That’s not what heroes do. You taught me that.” I stare back at her, watching her intently, until she gives in and nods.
“They do have a point though.” Winn speaks up, and I release a sigh. “Maybe it’s best if you go back home and stay with Aurora.”
“If I don’t go out there and stop this thing, it’s only going to come find me and I can never risk it hurting Aurora. We have to capture it, and I have an idea.”
“Go ahead.” J’onn nods his head, encouraging me to share the plan.
“I’ll go in as bait, then you guys come in as backup once I’ve cornered it.”
“Mon-El, are you sure this is a good idea? You said they were extremely violent.” Alex pipes up, being the voice of logic for all of us.
“I can handle it, besides, I have you guys incase anything goes wrong.”
———
“NOW ALEX!” I Shout, watching as she stuns the alien with a net, allowing J’onn to run up and cuff it in DEO hand cuffs.
“Choi ulo senot.
NEM-OR KLYUMSOKLYMSO EH JUZAN“
They’re coming.
MON-EL PRINCE OF DAXUM
A shiver runs down my spine as the creature whispers sharply at me.
They?
“Good job Mon-El.” J’onn says, walking up to pat me on the shoulder. “Now, I heard there’s a certain someone waiting for you back home.”
A smile spreads across my face at the thought of finally being able to go home to my girl.
“There is, thanks for the back-up J’onn. Call me if there are any more violent aliens on the loose.”
——
I finally make my way back into my apartment, unlocking the door to find Aurora wrapped up in a blanket on the couch, with a book resting in her lap.
Her head snaps up at the sound of the door clicking behind me, and my heart races as her eyes flash with relief when they meet my own.
“Hi there sleeping beauty.” I smile softly, making my way over to the couch. “How’d you sleep?”
“Hi handsome.” I see her lips pout slightly, making my heart pang with guilt, yet I know it was unintentional. “You weren’t there when I woke up.”
“I know gorgeous, I’m sorry, duty called.” I speak softly, moving over to crouch down in front of where she sat on the couch. “I hope you can forgive me.”
“You’re back with me and safe, so that’s all I can really ask for.” My heart swells at her words and I smile at her.
I hold up the bouquet of lilac roses I had picked up along the way back, watching her eyes light up with adoration at the sight of them.
“Mon-El!” She tosses her book aside, wrapping her arms around my neck as she pulls me into a hug. “They’re so beautiful, thank you.”
“I’m glad you like them Aurora.” I whisper softly, pulling back until my lips were hovering just above hers.
“More than.” She takes initiative, moving her face forward until our lips collided, moving perfectly against one another.
“Happy Valentine’s Day Sleeping Beauty.”

Earth’s Kryptonians find out that Danny’s cloak can be a portal to an extreme dose of unfiltered yellow sunlight so he sorta becomes their healer? in a sense? Though Danny has to basically toss his cloak on Superman and Supergirl when they need it because they probably won’t aks for that kind of aid themselves unless it’s really bad.
Kon is the exact opposite, completely fine with speeding to Danny for the most minor inconveniences and aches but the moment he’s actually really hurt and not doing good in the slightest he all of a sudden doesn’t want to "bother" Danny.
Dp dc au where Danny's hero/ghost appearance now comes with a funky cloak/cape that reflects what appears to be a night sky.
Through some scenario or another, it becomes known that this cloak is freezing cold, weather you're "borrowing" it and have it wrapped round you or he's just breezed past and washed you in chills. The cloak is cold.
Danny reveals, when asked, that it's cold bc "is space guys, the vacuum is cold" and everyone oohs and aahs and moves on.
Jump forward to some sort of attack or mission involving either some ice based villain or environment that leaves a hero or civilian shaking from chills, barely able to function.
Cue Danny, with no hesitation, removing his cloak and dropping it over the shivering victim's shoulders.
Everyone who knows about the cloak reacts with shock. The victim, however, to everyone's confusion, snuggles into the cloak, sighing in contentment.
Said cloak is no longer filled with void and stars and now glows a warm orange and flickers like flames.
Sure, most of space is cold, but every star is a sun, and it turns out Danny can change what patch of space the cloak reflects. He just prefers the cold.
The cloak becomes a fast essential for any movie night from then on.

excerpt from a "Kara actually got to Earth on-schedule and now she's got a baby cousin to raise" AU:
Kara doesn’t understand the aliens’ language, which is fine. She didn’t expect to. She watches them interact and listens as they speak, familiarizing herself with the cadence and pitch and rhythm of their voices and doing her best to pick out individual sounds and patterns. She likes languages well enough. She did pretty well with Daxamite dialects in school last year, anyway.
The aliens are kind, at least so far. They found her and Kal curled up in the remains of their smashed-up ships in their ruined field and brought them into their home despite the mess. Kara thinks they’re farmers, probably? So probably Laborer Guild, or whatever this planet has instead of Laborers. The House of El is mostly Thinkers, but Kara isn’t worried about that. She’ll figure something out, as soon as she figures out how to communicate with the aliens. Pantomime has not been all that helpful, at least not so far.
They gave her a warm, unusually sweet drink that might have some kind of milk in it, with soft white pellets in it that are even sweeter. It’s not quite like anything she’s ever tasted before, but she likes it. Kal really liked it, though the aliens seemed to think he shouldn't have too much and gave her a little cup of just milk alone for him instead. Or she thinks it's milk, anyway.
It's white. And very thick, and almost creamy? Though it tasted good too, when Kara stole a sip to make sure it wouldn’t upset Kal’s stomach if she gave it to him.
"Pye," the alien that Kara is assuming is female announces in their weirdly simple-sounding language, putting a round plate with a slice of something on it on the table in front of her. Kal reaches for it from her lap with a burble. Kara peers at it too. The slice is triangular, with a crisp crust and an oozy red filling. She wonders why the plate is round, if the "pye" is meant to be sliced and served triangularly. It seems a little disrespectful to the cook–or baker? Or at least the artisan who made the plate, which was clearly painted with very dedicated care–painted by hand, even, not a pre-programmed design reproduced by a machine. That’s very luxurious for Laborers to be offering unexpected guests who just destroyed their field.
Maybe they’re overcompensating, Kara thinks. Or maybe the aliens are really just that kind.
Maybe.
She thinks they’re little flowers, the designs around the edges of the plate. Or at least they look like they could be flowers. They’re flower-like, if nothing else, and all the weird colors of them might just be a stylistic choice.
They’re pretty.
She wishes she could show her mother.
Kara crushes down the grief for the thousandth time and smiles at the aliens. They smile back.
It helps, almost.
Almost.
The “pye” tastes very good.

Awakening (Kara character study, small part supercorp softness)
“But why can’t I be matched to Tali, mom? She’s my best friend!”
Alura turned to Kara, her jaw tensed with frustration with the stubborn child. “Kara, you know better than this. Stable matching can only be achieved if there is a true bijection between disjoint sets-”
“We don’t even have a true bijection because the population is constantly changing, we don’t sort according to all possible preferences, we don’t even have-” “It is not in our nature, Kara,” Alura said, with a dangerous tone in her voice. “We are not Daxamites.”
“But-”
“The answer is no.”
---
Kara is thirteen Earth years the first time she’s called “dyke.” She doesn’t know what it means. She had only been to school for a couple of weeks. Before that, the only substantial English she had spoken was the couple months with Eliza, Jeremiah, Alex, and Kal.
Clark, not Kal. Saying “Kal” would put her baby cousin- her older cousin- her cousin in danger.
Alex’s face flushes, and her eyes almost burn with anger, as she shoves Jake Howell against a locker. Kara could do it easily herself, but showing her newfound strength to humans would put her in danger too, somehow. Kara doesn’t think asshole is a nice word, given how Alex growled it. But she suspects dyke isn’t a nice word either.
That night after dinner, Eliza sighs, and hugs Kara gently - and Kara resolves to never get called dyke again.
---
“She’s gorgeous, she’s smart, she smells nice. Hell, I want to date her.” Kara flushed with discomfort, as the words came unbidden from her lips. But Alex didn’t remark on the odd statement, and Kara shoved the thought away.
Just weeks later, awkwardness would turn to tension as Lucy growled. “You and Hank, why do you all lie?”
“When you are an alien,” Kara choked, “You’re willing to sacrifice anything, everything, betray your fundamental instincts - just to fit in.” Something tugged in Kara’s soul at that moment. That she had always tried to fit in, long before she became an alien. But there simply hadn’t been time to linger.
It was only weeks later, when Lucy was saying her goodbyes before leaving National City to rejoin the military, that Kara felt the uncomfortable spike again. “I do know what it’s like to hide,” Lucy confessed.
Kara tilted her head, questions like why? and what do you mean? floating through her mind. But she thought it would be kinder not to ask. “I hope someday, you can be all that you are.”
Lucy gave a small smile. “Me too.”
---
She hadn’t expected meeting Lena to feel like lightning in her veins. The younger Luthor was quick-witted, and beautiful, and playful. Kara felt herself flush with the gentle teasing during their first coffee, and found herself marveling at never quite having a friendship like this before.
---
“So… so she’s gay?” Kara asked, the word heavy in her throat. “And are you saying, you’re gay too?”
Alex sighed and paced in front of Kara, her frustration just as apparent as her confusion. How can you not know if you’re gay?, Kara wondered, at the same time feeling strangely allergic to the conversation. Wouldn’t it be obvious? “What’s changed?” Kara asked.
---
Yeah, he was… immature. Irresponsible. But they connected - orphans of a lost planet, who spoke the same tongue, who had the same bewilderment in their first moments on an alien planet with newfound powers. And if being in his bed brought her pleasure, it was only proof of their connection, that a good relationship could come of it.
Sometimes there were those flashes - Mon-El had been confused by Alex’s coming out, not understanding the concept. The more the merrier would ring in Kara’s head, and she’d chase away the image of Lena’s face.
---
“I couldn’t have done it, Kara.”
Kara’s chest heaved as she gazed down at Lena, hearing Kal’s words flash through her mind. Lena clung to Kara’s arm as Kara hovered above the reservoir, and some corner of Kara’s mind knew that she should go land, that the danger was over. That Lena was safe. That the city was safe.
But she could only stare down at Lena, whose heart hammered in her chest, whose panting breaths from her climb had not yet slowed. I almost lost her, Kara thought, forlorn. I couldn’t lose her…
It was that moment that her world came crashing down, that realization made her feel like she was drowning. That romantic love wasn’t merely a combination of friendship and lust. That shared experience didn’t mean a shared connection. There was something that ran deeper.
She was in love with Lena, and she could no longer deny it.
---
It was a drunken movie night, after Lena’s breakup with James, when Kara heard I love you fall from Lena's lips.
“It was always you,” Lena confessed, her words slightly slurred from the alcohol as Kara finished pulling the covers over her. “I just wanted to be close to you.”
Kara stood back, feeling her heart pound as she watched Lena slip into slumber. I wish I had told you, Kara thought, her mind flashing to a moment long ago in a forest. I wish I had told you, before…
Kara spent a fitful night trying to sleep on her couch, and Lena’s eyes flashed with shame the next morning as she woke. But they left for Noonan’s, leaving the conversation behind.
---
It felt impossibly brief, that window of time after Kara had revealed her secret, where everything felt almost right with the world. Maybe someday, she and Lena could finish that conversation.
But she found herself in a kryptonite shell.
The universe ended soon after, and even magic couldn’t fix how they had broken. Until the day Kara finally found her hands in Lena’s, vowing together to take down her brother, and Kara felt again that hopeful wonder of what a future with Lena could hold.
And then she found herself in the Phantom Zone again, the words ringing in her head, I wish I had told you.
---
Sleep had eluded Kara in the weeks back from the Phantom Zone. So she was already wide awake at 2am, when she heard Lena’s heart begin to hammer.
Kara tensed, rushing to her window and ears tuning in as she prepared to fight off an assassination attempt or catch Lena as she fell.
But as she shot into the sky, she nearly tumbled when she realized that Lena wasn’t in distress. The shaky breaths and small laughs caused Kara’s chest to tighten in anguish. She’s fine, Kara thought, feeling tears prick the edges of her vision. She’s fine.
---
“Are you okay?” Lena said, when she finally found Kara in the Tower, sitting on a step. “Alex said she couldn’t find you - you were in the Fortress?”
Kara glanced up from the steps. “I just, um. I was reading in the Fortress, I fell asleep there.” It had the benefit of being true. The Fortress was far enough to drown the sound of Lena’s heart out.
Lena shuffled next to Kara, taking a seat. “I don’t remember seeing any beds there.”
“I float in my sleep,” Kara shrugged, staring at her hands as she let silence fall.
Lena shifted, uncomfortable with the quiet. “Are you okay?”
Yeah, Kara almost said, but something stopped her this time. Perhaps it was the poor sleep. Perhaps it was the litany of I wish I had told you that would replay in her mind.
How many more times am I going to do this?, Kara thought. How many more times am I going to carry that regret? “I love you,” Kara said finally, sensing Lena tense up next to her. “I know… I know that door is closed. But I love you. I should’ve told you so long ago.”
“You… you heard me last night,” Lena wondered softly. “So you went to the Fortress?”
Kara grimaced. “I stopped listening as soon as I realized,” Kara said, fighting a panic. Will she be angry? “I never meant to- to invade your privacy. I’ll be more careful.”
“The door isn’t closed,” Lena said. “If you don’t want it to be.”
Those words made Kara brave enough - or maybe just confused enough - to finally tilt her head up to meet Lena’s gaze. “But- last night-”
“I’ve been trying to get over you. Not very successfully,” Lena added, with a wry grin.
“Really?” Kara smiled.
“Really.”
---
The matching laws had been long dismantled by the time a smiling Alura officiated their marital rites. Kryptonians didn’t have concepts like best man or matron of honor, but that didn’t stop the two women from inviting Alex and Kelly to stand at each of their sides as they said their vows.
Kara never imagined that it’d be a woman’s wrist she’d place her wedding bracelet on. Though she supposed she never imagined marrying on an asteroid of her father’s creation, or marrying for romantic love, or marrying someone her people would call Hero of Argo for the creation of a black rock.
She never imagined finally telling Lena her secret. She never imagined Lena’s forgiveness. She never imagined the feel of Lena’s lips pressed against her own, hands tugging at her robes, as she whispered zhao against Lena’s lips.
And she never imagined being the one to make Lena’s heart race.

idk if it counts but i have a daxamite oc who found out what popsicles were from her human roommate and now mostly uses her freeze breath to make them because it's faster than putting them in the freezer.. ✨
Im tired of superpowers always being combative or defensive. Let’s see some that are just somewhat useful.
