Back from the Dead

They always come back. It could be months and even years. This is a fact.

There was this guy I considered to be a whole package. Good job, good characteristics, and a good family. JACKPOT. I feel like I wasted a whole 7-8 months of my life on this guy’s potential. He said he wanted a relationship and kids but his actions speak totally different. I would go weeks without text messages and phone calls. Telephone calls in general where basically non existent. The only time he ever pursued was if he saw that I was back on the online dating scene again.

Fast forward a year and a half and we both match on the app. We strike up a convo again and now we are texting. Almost every other day and I’m trying to make some plans but my stubbornness is preventing me from really pushing. I don’t want to push because I don’t want to seem desperate. Secondly, I feel like I shouldn’t have to. If you want me you will come to me PERIOD.

Out of the handful of guys I dating in the past three years since my ex left, this is the only one that has measured up. He doesn’t have any kids, no divorce baggage, and a good family. Honestly, is the  the problem is when someone realizes they are a catch, they act like it? They know their worth as a high value male just as we as women do. On the flip side, am I just hyping up his potential to be this person? Even though I think his flaws might be more severe than I imagine, I’m still giving him a chance.

We all have this naivety. This characteristic this quality, to overlook our senses and instinct. We ignore the flaws or we down play them. We choose not to see the bad in people. Instead, we focus on the good but sometimes the good turns into the potential. The potential. Ugh.

A girlfriend of mine came into my job and we were talking. The conversation went something like this

girl: Don’t tell them what you are looking for because your going to scare them away. Do you think I told my husband I wanted him for a relationship? No. I played the same game he did.

me: Soooo you never told him you wanted to settle down?

girl: No! We just ended up that way over time.

Holy fucking shit. Am I doing this all wrong? Are the podcasts and relationship coaches I’m listening to complete bullshit?

Being Truly Ravished

I recently spoke with a client of mind who told me a story I hear from many ladies all the time. “He checked off all the boxes for what I am looking for in a man” and it was the best sex I’ve ever had.  Until his perfect doting gentleman behavior quickly devolved into sporatic communication and sub par efforts across the board. What happened? What is on the check-list and  is it complete? Likely, its’ not and there’s not enough space on their for flexibility. 

 We all have the tendency to recycle encouragement based on the metrics of success that got us where we are today in said area of our life.  Those same criterias DO NOT necessarily translate into another area. It’s not plug and play.  We say things like, “you’re smart, beautiful, successful, a good friend and well rounded. You will meet someone. It’s just not the right time (or some other excuse).” This list is neither comprehensive nor is it even close to being complete.  It’s like showing putting down your qualifications on your linked in profile on your dating profile sprinkled with “loves to travel, try new foods and easy-going”.  It doesn’t translate that way. This is NOT what men are looking for, well the type of man you probably want at least.

Healthy, heterosexual men are looking for so, so much more. Something  intangible that they can sense- it goes beyond a dating profile, your best physical assets and your version of “winning in life except you don’t have a man”.

My client says that he ravishes her sexually.  You deserve that and so much more. You can have a man that will ravish your intellect, your hobbies, your sleep cycle, your career and strengths and your weaknesses.
