The Complete Guide: Top 10 Best Data Visualisation Tools
Data visualisation is developing as a crucial tool in today's data-driven business world, converting data into images, making it easier for organisations to understand, process, and make important decisions. Data visualisation aids in the creation of actionable insights. There are several data visualisation tools available that are adaptable, simple to use, and enable the user to visualise data in a variety of ways that are appropriate for their business objectives.
According to a new Fortune Business Insights analysis, the data visualisation market is anticipated to be worth $8.85 billion in 2019 and $19.20 billion by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate of 10.2%.
Businesses can drive engaging tales with comprehensive data visualisation tools by embracing the power of data storytelling.
Tumblr media
What exactly is data visualisation?  The process of graphical depiction of data in visual forms such as graphs, charts, and maps is known as data visualisation. The tools make it simple for users to derive insights from data, aiding them in making data-driven decisions. Data visualisation makes data more accessible and easier to understand by portraying it visually.
Data presented visually is simple to comprehend and analyse. This facilitates the extraction of actionable insights, allowing organisations to apply the findings for efficient real-time decision-making. To allow the visual depiction of data, data visualisation technologies support streaming data, AI integration, collaboration, interactive exploration, and self-service capabilities. Data visualisations vary, but some of the most prevalent are bar graphs and line graphs, pie charts, scatter plots, tree charts, mind maps, timelines, and project evaluation and review techniques, sometimes known as PERT charts.
What Is the Definition of Data Visualisation Tools?  Organisations are adopting measurements to understand how essential data is when making critical decisions as data becomes increasingly important for everyday decision-making. Data visualisation is gaining popularity for the same reason. Modern data visualisation tools are sophisticated pieces of software that are used to visualise data. While the features of each tool differ, they all allow the user to input a dataset and edit it graphically. Many applications also have pre-built templates for developing basic visualisations.
Google Charts, Tableau, Datawrapper, Microsoft Power BI, and other top data visualisation tools are available on the market. These tools provide customers with a range of visual styles that are basic, easy to use, and can handle a big number of data.
Finding the Best Data Visualisation Software   With the abundance of data analytics and visualisation technologies available on the market, all available tools have something in common. The tool's first advantage is its ease of use. Some have good documentation and tutorials, while others are built in a user-friendly manner. Others, regardless of their other characteristics, fall short in specific areas. The one thing to keep in mind is that the data visualisation software can handle massive amounts of data.
Organisations may also develop a range of bar charts, graphs, and maps with the correct tools. Many data visualisation tools on the market specialise in specific chart or map designs and excel at them.

Pose Reference Resources
I promised Dia (aka aerequets) that I will make a collection of pose references in the reply of one of her art posts, and then I completely forgot about it. Until now. I'm sorry for my bad memory.
So, yeah, better late than never I guess?
The pose collection I use the most is no longer free. They used to let you download a whole album (more than 8GB worth of data) to use offline, but now you have to pay $40/package or $200 for full sets. I still have the zip file for a very old version of theirs, but I can't legally share it. So, let's skip to the other options.
1/ First, you heard of those 3D dolls program that let you model your own reference pose? This one is an online one and for free, the whole ordeal. Of course since it's online and free, you can't save your model for next time, and it costs quite a lot of time to set the model up. So, you should take as much screenshots in as many tricky angles as you need once you done with the setting. Best using for complicated scenes where those below don't have what you need already available.
2/ This one is free and in 3D, you can rotate the model to any angle that you need. The only set back is the numbers of poses are quite limited. This one is best for using as a basic blocks then build up what you want to draw, or just as a practice to improve your understanding of human anatomy.
3/ This one is free for personal uses and the pose collection is massive. The setbacks are the language barrier (it's in Japanese, English is sometimes tag-a-long) and you have to search through their pages for what you need. The pics for each pose is static but they are in different angle in almost 360 degrees. There are many 2-person and 3-person poses too. Great for illustration inspiration.
4/ This one will only show reference photos of human head, at whatever angle you rotate the model. The web interface is easy to use. There are options like searching based on gender, ages, emotions, glasses, facial hair or not, etc. Good for practicing face drawing.
5/ This one will show reference photos for human body parts, at whatever angle you rotate the model, read the instructions for how to do it. The web interface is quite hard to use at first, just tinkering around for a bit, and you will be fine. There are options like searching based on gender and which particular parts that you need refs for. Good for that moment when you go "huh? how is this <body part> will look in this <situation>????"
6/ This one will only show reference photos of animal heads, and only the head, at whatever angle you rotate the model. The accurate skull refencence list is their best point. There are enough common species in the drop down list. Tbh, I don't use this much because I often need refs for the whole animal most of the time. But it's best for furry artists, I guess?
7/ Real model photos. They sell pose reference in themed packs, but there are enough free packs to use as drawing practice too.
8/ This is the best for general background reference. Lots of options. Not really good for very specific location results, but good for random background in drawings.
9/ Lastly, for specific objects or background references at strange angles, I often search for 3D models on this site then take screenshots of whatever I need.
That's all, folks. Hope this list can help ease some of the struggles that we will encounter on our quest of learning the art of drawing things 😂

The Death of Physical Media
I keep seeing this concern around all of my home theater circles. Ever since Best Buy decided to abandon physical media there has been a call to arms to save it.
Chris Stuckman did a great video on his love of physical media.
youtube
I admire and share his passion.
That said, I think there is nothing to stop physical media from being scaled back. At best, it will end up like vinyl and only a few select titles will still be pressed.
Which is why I think saving physical media is the wrong fight.
There is a much larger fight that encompasses more than just blu-ray discs...
(I'm going to use really big letters for dramatic effect so don't get startled.)
DATA OWNERSHIP!
(Imagine a long trailing echo when reading that in your mind.)
(Sorry, I probably should have included those instructions in the previous parenthetical. So go back and read "data ownership" again with the proper gusto.)
(Did you do it?)
(Was it cool?)
(Cool.)
A blu-ray is just data.
The disc does not positively affect the visuals or the sounds. It's just 1s and 0s coded into microscopic pits. You can put that data on a hard drive. You can put it on an SD Card. You can put it on a thumb drive and wear it on a necklace.
You can even use WinRAR to break it up into little 1.44 megabyte chunks and save it to floppy disks.
Tumblr media
Another 40 more cases of floppies and you've got Avatar preserved for life!
The medium is not important.
The *data* is important.
And as everything turns into a subscription we are losing out on ways to own data. Beyond that, people aren't yet seeing the value of owning data. If renting a digital download is cheaper, they are almost always going to choose that option.
So the fight is two-fold.
We need to fight for the right to parrrrrty own data.
We need to convince the populace of the value of owning data.
This can apply to software, movies, video games. Hell, I don't even own my damn doorbell videos. There is no way to download all of the footage. I'd have to do each video one at a time. And if I don't keep my subscription, I will no longer have access to that data as it will soon be deleted.
We would need a platform similar to Steam—though it isn't the perfect data ownership solution. Many titles require internet connectivity and DRM verification. What happens to our media when a company goes out of business and the infrastructure to verify the DRM over the internet is gone?
So that would need to be addressed. Perhaps a new form of DRM linked to our digital identity that can be verified locally.
I mean, I'd love to get rid of DRM, but that is probably not realistic.
I think the best avenue is probably a congressional law.
"The Own Your Own Data Act"
TOYODA?
We can workshop the name later.
In conclusion, we don't need to save blu-rays. We need the option to buy data and actually own it in perpetuity.
Meaning if a streaming service deletes a movie or a movie studio goes belly up, our data doesn't disintegrate along with it. We cannot let our favorite shows go extinct. We need to be part of preserving that history. Not to mention discs have a shelf life. But data can be transferred to new mediums indefinitely.
My house is just going to be wall to wall floppy disks.

7,935 total entries were submitted in 2023!
This includes all entries that were submitted via the Google Form, including late entries (and excluding duplicate entries).
Which brings us to 50,656 total recorded entries since we began this challenge in 2017!
And, we had 109 volunteer artists in 2023!! Which means that there are 109 prize-winners!
A breakdown of the stats + announcement of the Participation Prize winners are below the cut ~
Want to see all public entries? Here’s a link to the Master Spreadsheet. This omits entries that people requested to keep private between them and I.
There's a lot to be gleaned from the data this year. Firstly, this is the first year where we see a real dip in participation, numbers dropping to the pre-2020 range. There are a couple of probable causes for this dip: this year, I chose, a) not to promote the challenge in any discords, b) not to repost any prompts to twitter, and c) not to post reminders throughout the challenge for folks to submit their links.
I was curious to know how much my own direct participation effects the challenge these days, and the numbers seem to point to "quite a bit!" So, that's good to know.
Secondly, we have finally approached the "data visualization salad" limit in which there are enough data points to confuse the visualization of the data overall, rendering them a little tough to understand at first glance. So, next year will probably see some fine-tuning of the data so that it's easier to digest.
Now, onto the good stuff!
Total Participation Year to Year:

NOTE: The big dips are Make-up / Extra Credit Days. Lots of folks choose to take a break over writing Extra Credit. Legit!

Participation Prize Winners
Winners were selected via a random raffle dice roll made by Moen and span all online writing platforms, including Tumblr, Ao3, Google Docs, and others (like Twitter). This writing challenge is not a contest - no one’s work was being judged for length, skill, etc. The prizes are based on participation only! The more entries that you wrote and submitted within its 24-hour deadline, the higher your chance of winning a prize.
Prizes are a simple black & white portrait of the winner’s character. Most are shoulder up but the artists are free to take liberties if they’d like. Prizes are not commissioned work, so ultimately it’s the artist’s choice for what they’d like to do for the piece. Some artists (not all) accept commissions and might be open to colorizing a prize piece, after it’s been posted, at their normal rates.
Due to recent changes in Discord's username format, this year (and this year only) all winners will be notified by yours truly (MoenMoen) via a friend request and message in Discord. Next year I'll be teaming up with some folks to find a better, more streamlined process for informing and connecting winners with their volunteer artist.
So, keep an eye out for me in your Discord friend requests/inbox over the next week or so (it will take me a minute to get to everyone):
Tumblr media
As always, there are a few winners whose artists may need to drop out for personal reasons, and that’s ok! In those cases, the winners will be carried over into 2024′s pool of winners where another artist will pick up their prize and complete it.
Congrats to all 109 winners, and I'll see you in September 2024 when we do it all again!
