Alan Strid/@gas-writer "The Medical test" continued with AI
He neglected continuing the story for a reason but said nothing of anyone else doing such a thing, so here's mine:
Antiseptic Sterilization
The antiseptic sterilization room is starkly clean, a sterile contrast to the unremarkable building where this began. The nurses, faces obscured by surgical masks and protective face shields, move with mechanical precision. They start by handling your unconscious body with latex-gloved hands, applying a transparent ointment around each orifice. This ointment serves as a barrier, preventing any microbial invasion. Using small applicator sticks dipped in medical glue, they seal the ointment in place. The process is meticulous and thorough, starting with your eyes, then moving to your mouth around the endotracheal tube, your ears, nostrils, and finally, other orifices. The sensation of the ointment is cold and slightly numbing, and the glue quickly hardens, forming an airtight seal to ensure no contamination.
Next, they place you into a tight, velvet-feeling fishnet sack. The fabric clings to your skin, and you feel the rough texture against your flesh. A network of solution nozzles surrounds you, and with a sudden synchronized hiss, they begin dousing your body with a cleansing solution. The liquid is cold and stings slightly as it contacts your skin, stripping away all exposed hair, bacteria, and dead skin. The nozzles operate in stages, each one administering a different type of spray. Some emit a fine mist that coats every inch of your body, while others deliver a jet stream that forcefully washes away debris. A few nozzles provide a gentle, pulsating wash, ensuring that every part of your body is thoroughly cleansed and sterilized. The process is repeated several times to ensure complete sterilization, and the solution is allowed to sit for a few moments to maximize its effectiveness before being rinsed away.
Securing Vitals Monitoring
Before proceeding with the surgeries, the medical team secures various monitoring devices to your body to keep track of your vital signs throughout the procedures. Electrodes for heart rate and electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring are placed on your chest, secured with a layer of medical glue to ensure they remain in place despite any movements. A bispectral index (BIS) monitor, which tracks your level of consciousness through EEG data, is attached to your forehead with the same adhesive. Additionally, a pulse oximeter is clipped to your finger to measure blood oxygen content, and its sensor is reinforced with glue to prevent dislodgment.
32-Tooth Extraction
Once back in the OR, the sealing substances are carefully removed, leaving your skin clean and smooth. You are positioned on the dental operating table, and the tooth extraction begins.
The surgical team starts by donning fresh gloves, masks, and gowns. They position you on the dental operating table and use surgical drapes to cover your body, leaving only your mouth exposed. The nurse inserts a mouth prop to keep your mouth open wide, ensuring it remains open during the procedure. The surgeon selects a straight elevator and begins to loosen each tooth methodically. The elevator is inserted between the tooth and the surrounding gum, and a gentle twist loosens the tooth from its socket. This process is repeated for each tooth, feeling for the slight give that indicates the ligaments have been disrupted.
Once the teeth are sufficiently loosened, the surgeon switches to dental forceps. The forceps grip the crown of each tooth firmly, and with a twisting and pulling motion, the teeth are extracted one by one. The sound of the roots breaking free from the jawbone is a mix of crunching and popping, which can be unsettling. The suction device is used continuously, gurgling as it removes saliva and blood from your mouth, ensuring a clear field for the surgeon.
After all 32 teeth are removed, the surgeon inspects the empty sockets for any remaining fragments or debris. She then uses a bone file to smooth any rough edges on the jawbone, ensuring there are no sharp points that could cause discomfort later. Finally, dissolvable sutures are placed in each socket to close the wounds and promote healing. The surgeon ensures that the sutures are evenly spaced and securely tied to prevent any post-operative complications.
Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy
Next is the tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. The team repositions you and adjusts the drapes to expose your mouth and throat.
The procedure begins with the insertion of a mouth gag to keep your mouth open wide. The gag is adjusted to ensure your mouth remains open without causing undue pressure on your teeth or jaws. The surgeon uses a scalpel to make small, precise incisions around the tonsils. Each cut is deliberate, designed to minimize bleeding and provide a clear path for removal. The tonsils are then partially severed from their attachments, and the surgeon switches to an electrocautery device.
The electrocautery device emits a low humming sound as it activates. This tool uses electrical current to cut through the remaining tissue and simultaneously cauterize blood vessels, reducing the risk of excessive bleeding. The surgeon carefully maneuvers the device around the tonsils, ensuring complete removal while controlling any bleeding. The tonsils are then gripped with forceps and extracted, leaving small, cauterized craters where they once were.
The adenoids are next. The surgeon uses a mirror and headlight to visualize the adenoids at the back of the nasal passage. She then employs a curette, a specialized scraping instrument, to remove the adenoid tissue. The curette is inserted through your mouth and maneuvered into position. With a swift scraping motion, the adenoids are detached and removed. Again, the electrocautery device is used to control bleeding and ensure all adenoid tissue is excised.
Hemostats are applied as needed to clamp off any small vessels that continue to bleed, and the suction device is used continuously to remove blood and other fluids from the surgical site. The surgeon ensures that all remnants of the tonsils and adenoids are completely removed before concluding the procedure. She checks the surgical area thoroughly, using a combination of direct visualization and palpation to confirm that the tissues are clean and free of any remaining debris.
The entire process is meticulous, with the surgeon and her team working in unison to ensure a smooth and successful operation. After the procedure is complete, the mouth gag is carefully removed, and the drapes are adjusted to prepare for the next phase of surgery.
Appendectomy
You are moved to the OR table and positioned for an appendectomy. Fresh surgical drapes are applied, covering you except for the surgical site on your lower abdomen. The sterile field is established meticulously, with each drape placed precisely to ensure no contamination.
The surgeon begins by making an incision with a scalpel just above your right hip. The initial cut is about three inches long, slicing through the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Once the incision is made, the surgeon uses retractors to hold the incision open, providing a clear view of the underlying tissues. Hemostats are applied to clamp any bleeding vessels, ensuring a bloodless field. The surgeon then uses Metzenbaum scissors for delicate dissection, carefully navigating through layers of muscle and fat to reach the appendix.
As she approaches the peritoneum, the thin membrane that lines the abdominal cavity, she switches to a more delicate touch, making a small incision in the peritoneum to gain access to the abdominal organs. The surgeon gently lifts the loops of intestine, searching for the appendix. Once located, the appendix is carefully isolated from surrounding tissues.
The surgeon clamps the base of the appendix with a pair of hemostats to prevent any contents from leaking into the abdomen. She then uses Metzenbaum scissors to cut the appendix free from the cecum, the part of the intestine where it is attached. The removed appendix is placed in a sterile container for examination. Surgical sponges are used to absorb blood and fluids, keeping the area clean.
To close the incision, the surgeon first sutures the peritoneum with absorbable stitches, ensuring that the abdominal cavity is sealed. She then sutures the muscle layers, being careful to align the tissues properly to promote healing. Finally, the skin is closed with either sutures or surgical staples, and a sterile dressing is applied to protect the wound.
Gallbladder Removal
Gallbladder removal follows. The team re-drapes you to expose the upper right quadrant of your abdomen, ensuring a sterile field. The procedure is performed laparoscopically, which means it will involve several small incisions rather than one large one.
The surgeon begins by making several small incisions in your abdomen, typically four. She inserts trocars, which are small, tube-like instruments that provide access points for the laparoscopic instruments. A laparoscope, which is a long, thin tube with a camera and light at the end, is inserted through one of the trocars, giving the surgical team a clear view of your internal organs on a video monitor.
The surgeon carefully maneuvers the laparoscope to locate the gallbladder. Using graspers inserted through another trocar, she lifts and holds the gallbladder in place. Scissors are then used to dissect the tissue around the gallbladder, carefully cutting away the connective tissue that holds it in place.
The cystic duct and cystic artery, which supply bile and blood to the gallbladder, are identified and clipped with clip appliers. These clips ensure that there is no bleeding and that no bile leaks into the abdominal cavity. Once the clips are securely in place, the surgeon uses scissors to cut the duct and artery.
With the gallbladder fully detached, it is placed into a small retrieval bag inserted through one of the trocars. The bag is then carefully pulled out through one of the incisions. The surgical team ensures that the bag remains intact during removal to prevent any spillage of bile.
Throughout the procedure, the suction/irrigation device is used to maintain a clear view and clean operative field. This device irrigates the area with
a sterile solution and suctions away blood and fluids. Once the gallbladder is removed, the surgeon performs a final inspection of the abdominal cavity to ensure there is no residual bleeding or bile leakage.
The incisions are then closed with sutures or surgical glue, and sterile dressings are applied to each site. The surgeon removes the drapes, and you are repositioned for the next procedure.
Prostate Removal and Orchiectomy
Repositioned in the stirrups, the prostate removal and orchiectomy are next. Fresh surgical drapes are applied, covering your lower abdomen and genital area.
The surgeon begins by making an incision below your navel with a scalpel. The incision is deepened carefully through layers of skin, fat, and muscle until the surgeon reaches the abdominal cavity. Retractors are used to hold the incision open, providing a clear view of the surgical field. Hemostats are applied to control any bleeding from cut blood vessels.
Using dissecting scissors and a combination of blunt dissection techniques, the surgeon carefully separates the prostate from surrounding tissues. The nerves and blood vessels that run alongside the prostate are meticulously preserved to maintain functionality. Once the prostate is fully isolated, it is removed and set aside.
Next, the surgeon moves to the orchiectomy. Incisions are made in the scrotum, and the testicles are carefully extracted. The spermatic cords are clamped with hemostats, cut, and then ligated to prevent any bleeding. The testicles are removed, and the incisions are sutured closed with absorbable stitches.
A hormone implant is placed in the cavity left behind by the prostate. This implant will provide a controlled release of hormones necessary for your transition. The surgeon then carefully sutures the incision in the lower abdomen, ensuring that each layer of tissue is properly aligned to promote healing. A catheter is inserted into your urethra to ensure that urine can drain freely as you recover.
The surgical mesh may be used to support the pelvic floor if necessary, depending on the extent of the tissue removal and the individual anatomical needs. The mesh is carefully placed and secured, ensuring it provides the necessary support without causing discomfort.
Facial Feminization Surgery
Finally, facial feminization surgery is performed. The surgeon reshapes your facial features, softening your jawline, reducing the size of your Adam's apple, and altering the shape of your nose and cheekbones.
The procedure begins with the surgeon making incisions with a scalpel along predetermined lines marked on your face. These incisions are strategically placed in natural creases and along the hairline to minimize visible scarring.
To reshape the jawline, the surgeon uses an osteotome and mallet. The osteotome, a chisel-like instrument, is carefully positioned along the jawbone, and the mallet is used to gently tap it, shaving down the bone. This process is repeated in small increments, allowing the surgeon to sculpt the jawline gradually and precisely. The burr drill is then used to smooth and contour the bone, ensuring a natural and feminine appearance.
For the reduction of the Adam's apple, the surgeon makes a small incision in the throat area. The tracheal cartilage is carefully exposed, and a portion is shaved down using a scalpel and specialized instruments. The surgeon takes great care to preserve the surrounding structures while achieving a more feminine contour.
Altering the shape of your nose involves careful dissection and reshaping of the nasal bones and cartilage. The surgeon makes incisions inside the nostrils and along the columella (the tissue between the nostrils). Using a combination of osteotomes, chisels, and a burr drill, the surgeon reshapes the nasal bones and cartilage to create a softer, more refined appearance. The skin is then re-draped over the newly sculpted framework, and the incisions are closed with fine sutures.
To enhance the cheekbones, the surgeon may use implants or fat grafting. For implants, small incisions are made inside the mouth, and the implants are carefully positioned over the cheekbones. If fat grafting is used, fat is harvested from another area of your body, purified, and then injected into the cheeks to add volume and contour.
Each step of the procedure is meticulously planned and executed, with the surgeon constantly checking the results to ensure symmetry and balance. The incisions are closed with fine sutures, and a sterile dressing is applied to protect the surgical sites and promote healing.
Vaginoplasty
The final procedure is vaginoplasty. You are positioned and draped carefully to expose the genital area while maintaining a sterile field. This highly complex surgery involves creating a neovagina, clitoris, and labia from the existing penile and scrotal tissue.
The surgeon begins by marking the surgical site. A midline incision is made along the penile shaft, and the skin is carefully separated from the underlying tissue. The penile skin is then inverted to create the vaginal canal. This involves meticulous dissection to preserve as much tissue as possible.
The urethra is shortened and repositioned to a more anatomically correct location. This requires precise cutting and suturing to ensure proper urinary function post-surgery. The erectile tissue is removed to reduce the risk of complications and to shape the new anatomy.
The surgeon then creates the neovagina by forming a cavity between the rectum and the prostate. The inverted penile skin is carefully inserted into this cavity, and the surgeon ensures it is properly positioned and secured. The neovagina is then lined with the penile skin, and any excess skin is trimmed.
The clitoris is formed from the glans of the penis, preserving the nerve supply to maintain sensation. The surgeon carefully shapes the glans into a clitoral structure and secures it at the top of the vaginal opening. The labia minora and majora are created from the scrotal tissue, which is dissected, trimmed, and reshaped to form the outer and inner lips of the new vulva.
Throughout the procedure, the surgeon uses fine sutures to close incisions and to secure the newly formed structures. The area is irrigated frequently to maintain a clear surgical field and to minimize the risk of infection. Surgical sponges are used to absorb any fluids, and hemostats are applied to control bleeding.
Once the neovagina, clitoris, and labia are formed and positioned correctly, the surgeon performs a final inspection to ensure everything is in place and there are no complications. A vaginal stent is inserted to keep the canal open during the healing process, and a sterile dressing is applied to protect the surgical site.
32-Teeth Transplantation
The following procedure is equally intricate and requires precise coordination. Another man, conscious and terrified, is brought into the OR. He is positioned next to you, and surgical drapes are used to maintain sterile fields around both your mouth and his. The man struggles and pleads, but the medical team remains focused on their task.
The team begins by sedating the other man to prevent excessive movement. The sedative is strong enough to keep him still but not enough to fully anesthetize him. He is aware of the procedure, but his body is unable to respond.
The extraction of his 32 teeth begins with the insertion of a mouth prop to keep his mouth open. The surgeon uses a straight elevator to loosen each tooth, feeling for the give that indicates the ligaments have been disrupted. The dental forceps are then used to grip the crowns of the teeth firmly. With a twisting and pulling motion, the teeth are extracted one by one. The suction device is used continuously to remove saliva and blood, ensuring a clear field.
Once all 32 teeth are extracted from the donor, they are immediately placed in a sterile solution to keep them viable. The donor's mouth is inspected for any remaining fragments, and the sockets are cleaned and sutured closed to promote healing.
The next phase involves the implantation of the extracted teeth into your mouth. The surgeon positions you with your mouth open using a mouth prop. Small incisions are made in your gums to create new sockets for the donor teeth. The teeth are carefully inserted, one by one, ensuring they are properly aligned and secured. Each tooth is anchored using fine sutures and a dental bonding agent to stabilize them in place.
Throughout the procedure, both you and the donor remain under close observation. The surgical team works efficiently, ensuring that the teeth are transplanted quickly to minimize the risk of failure. The donor's teeth are now your own, a complex and unsettling addition to your transformation.
Once the teeth are implanted, your gums are sutured to secure the new teeth. The surgical site is cleaned, and a dental guard is placed to protect the fresh implants. The donor is moved out of the OR, his role in the procedure complete, while you remain to undergo further evaluations and treatments.
Final Preparations
After all the surgeries are completed, the surgical team ensures that all incisions are properly closed and dressings are applied to protect the surgical sites. You are transferred to a recovery room where you are closely monitored as you slowly regain consciousness.
As you wake, the reality of what has been done to you begins to sink in. The pain and discomfort are overwhelming, and you struggle to comprehend the extent of the changes to your body. The medical staff remains professional and detached, their focus now on your recovery and stabilization.
Waking Up
Hours later, you begin to regain consciousness. The transition from oblivion to awareness is gradual and disorienting. The first sensation you register is a dull, pervasive ache that seems to emanate from your entire body. The soft beeping of monitors and the hum of medical equipment fade into your awareness, grounding you in the reality of the hospital room.
As your eyelids flutter open, the harsh fluorescent lighting overhead causes you to squint. Your vision slowly comes into focus, revealing the sterile white walls of the recovery room. You feel groggy, your mind foggy from the anesthesia and the cumulative effects of the extensive surgeries.
The first
thing you notice is the oxygen mask covering your nose and mouth, delivering cool, steady breaths. You attempt to move, but your body feels heavy and uncooperative, bound by the lingering effects of the anesthesia and the fresh post-operative pain.
A nurse, noticing your stirring, approaches your bedside. Her face is partially obscured by a surgical mask, but her eyes convey a calm, reassuring presence. She gently checks your vitals, her touch practiced and efficient.
"Welcome back," she says softly, her voice soothing. "You're in the recovery room. The surgeries went well. Just try to relax and let your body rest."
Confusion quickly turns to panic as you realize you have no memory of agreeing to any extensive surgeries. You try to speak, but the words come out as muffled protests through the oxygen mask. Your attempts to move are met with sharp pain and the restrictive feel of the compression garments and bandages.
You start to thrash, pulling at the IV lines and trying to rip off the oxygen mask. The nurse steps back, her eyes widening in concern.
"Please, you need to stay calm," she urges, trying to soothe you. "You've had multiple surgeries. Moving around too much could cause complications."
Her words barely register as you continue to struggle, your panic escalating. Another nurse quickly joins, holding your arms gently but firmly to prevent you from causing harm to yourself.
"I didn't agree to this! What did you do to me?" you manage to shout, your voice hoarse and filled with fear.
The nurses exchange worried glances before one of them speaks. "We need to call the doctor. Hold on."
Moments later, a doctor enters the room. She looks composed and serious, her expression one of professional concern. "Please, try to calm down. You're in a safe place, and we're here to help you."
"Help me? I didn't agree to any of this!" you shout again, your voice shaking. "What did you do to me?"
The doctor steps closer, her tone calm and authoritative. "You've undergone several surgeries. I know this is a shock, but we need you to stay still and let us explain."
"Why? I didn't consent to any of this!"
Dr. Patel takes a deep breath. "We understand that you have no memory of consenting. You were selected for a comprehensive medical trial, and we have documents indicating your agreement."
"No!" you shout, your panic rising again. "I never agreed to this! Let me go!"
The nurse quickly increases the sedative in your IV again, and you feel your resistance weaken as the drowsiness takes over. "We will discuss this further when you're feeling better," Dr. Patel says. "Right now, your body needs to heal."
As the sedative pulls you back into unconsciousness, you feel a deep sense of betrayal and fear. You’re left alone with your thoughts, wondering how you ended up in this situation and what will happen next.
Subsequent Awakenings
The next time you wake, it’s in small increments. You’re more alert each time, but with that alertness comes the realization of the changes to your body. The pain is still there, a constant reminder of what has been done.
A different nurse, this time a man with a kind but professional demeanor, is checking your vitals. "You’re awake," he observes. "How are you feeling? Any pain or discomfort?"
"All of it," you mutter, trying to shift without causing too much pain. "I need to know… why."
"Let’s get you comfortable first," the nurse says, adjusting the bed so you’re in a more upright position. "Dr. Patel will be in shortly to discuss everything with you."
This time, when Dr. Patel enters, she’s accompanied by a psychiatrist. "This is Dr. Williams," she introduces. "We’re here to help you process everything."
"I just want answers," you say, exhaustion in your voice. "I didn’t agree to this."
Dr. Williams steps forward. "We understand how disorienting this must be. Our records show you were a part of a trial, but it’s clear there’s been a severe misunderstanding."
"A misunderstanding?" you echo, incredulous. "You’ve changed everything about me!"
Dr. Patel and Dr. Williams exchange a look before Dr. Williams speaks again. "For now, let’s focus on your recovery. We’ll work on finding out exactly how this happened and ensure it doesn’t happen to anyone else."
Their words offer little comfort as you lay back, feeling a mix of anger, confusion, and helplessness. The road ahead is uncertain, but for now, you focus on the small victories of recovery, each one bringing you closer to understanding the full scope of what has happened and reclaiming some control over your life.

oh god ok I just caught up on this and WOW
so, thought #1: yeah these are awful lol
thought #2: I don't think AI is going to create a uniquely bad atmosphere for fraud in academic articles, because we've already established the incentives and conditions for fraud to be a substantial problem in the first place
most people heard about the foundational Alzheimer's research that was found to be fabricated, and that was probably the most high profile case in recent years
institutions basically lock PI's in an eternal grant-writing grind where they have to produce interesting, relevant, and novel research continually in order for them and everyone under them to keep their jobs. it de-incentivizes any type of research that seeks to verify or reproduce previous studies (journals generally won't publish this) and if you end up NOT finding something ground-breaking, then it's seen as a scientitic failure rather than a naturally possible outcome of investigating the world, in which things sometimes aren't interesting
this obviously lays incentives for fudging data in the whole field of science itself, but there's been high amount of fraud coming from institutions in china which is why I was disappointed but not especially surprised by this
I'm prefacing this by saying that scientists based in china have been asking for solutions to this and rightly pointing the blame to the uniquely weird government funding scheme as the cause. I'm not going to get too much into it, but there have been issues with fake paper mills for years, and "citation circles" (iirc you can get a cash kickback for how many times you're cited) of people agreeing to cite each other's irrelevant papers.
it's gotten to the point where, and this is really bad, PI's over here will ignore papers that come from china-based institutions under the presumption that the data is unreliable.
excerpt from the article:
For example, in 2017, Tumor Biology published by Springer retracted 107 papers, all of which are by Chinese authors, because authors provided made-up contact information of potential reviewers, and the review processes ended up being manipulated by third-party agencies that make profit from “faking” the review processes (Chen, 2017). Also, certain journals have in recent years witnessed a concentration of works by authors from China. We suspect that this is because of closely knit networks of editors, reviewers and authors, which results in superficial peer-review, easy acceptance, and deliberate self-citing from the same journals to boost impact factors (see Guglielmi, 2019 for similar patterns of behaviors occurring to Italian scientists).
re: the last sentence, it does happen to a lesser degree elsewhere, which is why this is a field-wide problem
the chinese government has I think in recent years realized that the way everything is structured is de-legitimizing their research, and there have been huge efforts to crack down on fraud and basically place sanctions on these scientists. but that's sort of just handling the symptoms and not the cause - I'm not sure how far along they are on rectifying the index by which they ascribe merit and funding potential to PI's (we do this in other ways too) but yeah, the whole system of academia itself has to change.

For Maia: Chadley/simulated!Cloud - Chadley programs a Cloud simulation to practice flirting with
Chadley has had approximately (exactly) forty (seven) conversations with Cloud Strife, but somehow, guiding the topic beyond their mutually beneficial research partnership has turned his tongue to knots.
It’s unexpected, the way his heart flutters and his face warms, the very moment he spies his favorite speci– err, candidate.
Cloud either does not notice or is kind enough not to comment.
Chadley decides (hopes) it is the former over the latter. Cloud is kind in his own way, but Chadley would prefer to present a fully capable front. Unfortunately, he is too organic to simply reprogram the stutters out of his vocabulary, and while he’s read every instructional manual he was capable of downloading, none of them have presented a solution to solve this particular quandary.
The simulator is MAI’s idea.
“If it’s good enough for Cloud, it’s good enough for you,” she says. “And let’s face it, buddy, you need the practice.”
“I do not,” Chadley grits out.
(He definitely does.)
Virtual!Cloud is a near-perfect copy of the real Cloud. Chadley borrows data from the battle simulator and every recorded interaction, plus his own personal observations, to approximate a digital version of his favorite candidate.
Theoretically, with enough practice in the virtual world, Chadley will behave with dignity in the natural world. No more hot cheeks. No more stammering thoughts. Nothing but a scientist who is cool, calm, and collected.
“Just don’t get up to anything NSFM, alright? I’m watching, you know,” MAI says.
Chadley does not recognize the acronym. “NSFM?”
“Not safe for MAI!” She giggles and vanishes with a burst of glittery, virtual particles.
Now it’s just Chadley and Virtual!Cloud in an empty, virtual space.
“Hmm.” Chadley activates the holo panel and considers available settings. “It won’t do any good to practice in an obviously fabricated environment. I need more realistic parameters.”
He considers his options and dismisses anything related to Midgar. The city holds too many unpleasant connotations. No, what they need is a fresh start. Somewhere bright and cheerful with fresh air and sunlight.
Somewhere outside Kalm, perhaps. There are quite a few scenic spots that have been noted by local photographers, so Chadley picks one and builds it into the virtual space. There. A cliff overlooking the ocean with lots of grass and flowers underfoot. Perfect.
The setting blooms to life around them and Chadley deactivates the holo panel. Now it’s just him and Virtual!Cloud on a cliff on a bright, sunny day. Perfect.
Chadley stares at Virtual!Cloud and Virtual!Cloud… doesn’t stare back. His face is too blank for that. Empty.
Unactivated.
Oh!
Chadley taps the controls and Virtual!Cloud blinks. He looks around as if he’s confused, that little pinch between his brows.
“Cloud!” Chadley waves to get his attention. “What a surprise to run into you here!”
No, that’s inane.
Virtual!Cloud looks back at him. “How did I get here?” he asks. He plants his hands on his hips, but he looks more bewildered than angry.
Hmm. Perhaps a touch too realistic.
Chadley pauses, rewrites a few lines of code, and tries again.
“Cloud!” He smiles and waves. “It’s nice to see you again. I have worked hard on all of the data you’ve been collecting. I think you’re really going to like what I’ve created.”
Wait. No. That’s just business.
Chadley frowns. He’s doing this all wrong. Also, he didn’t re-activate Virtual!Cloud. Gods, Cloud makes him so flustered. Even a virtual one.
He tries again. Minor adjustments uploaded. Virtual!Cloud activated. Chadley takes in a deep breath, exhales, and starts over.
“Cloud! I’m glad to see you’re looking well,” he says, which is both true because Virtual!Cloud is a near copy of actual Cloud, and because Cloud gets into very dangerous situations, and Chadley often worries. Though he knows he shouldn’t.
Cloud is more than capable of taking down anything.
“... Thanks,” Virtual!Cloud says. “Uh, is that all?”
“Actually,” Chadley starts and stumbles. Even in practice this is difficult. “I was hoping you would be willing to assist me in a new venture.”
Virtual!Cloud tilts his head, a cute pinch of confusion between his eyebrows. Programmed perfectly. “You want me to kill something?”
“No, no, nothing like that,” Chadley says, waving his arms. “It’s something of an, eh, personal nature…?” He trails off and gives Virtual!Cloud a look.
People initiate dating protocols via lots of subtle words and gestures, Chadley’s read. He needs to master these if he has any chance of being successful.
Virtual!Cloud squints. “Personal?”
“Yes,” Chadley says with more confidence than he feels. “I would be honored if you’d accompany me on a personal errand. I would be happy to include a meal and a beverage afterward.”
Food and drink, both key factors of social interaction with interpersonal relationships. Also, sustenance is an important part of daily functioning. Cloud looks like he could use a few hearty meals and some relaxation, perhaps on a beach?
Oh, no.
Cloud on a beach. He certainly couldn’t wear his usual uniform. He’d have to dress more comfortably. Show more… skin. Even more skin than when he was wearing that dress, with the make up and the hair and–
Oh, dear.
“Your face is red,” Virtual!Cloud says, much more astute than the actual Cloud.
Chadley spins around, hits pause on the simulation, and tries to get ahold of himself. He finger-combs his hair, takes a few deep breaths, waits for the heat to leave his cheeks.
This is going to be a lot harder than he thought.
Chadley’s going to need a heck of a lot more practice.

Recruitment Duty
AS555 and Y8PWZ observed as another teenager, with a more studious air, approached their booth. His eyes darted between the paramedic's imposing armor and the red-clad Youth Group Leader. With an inquisitive smile, he ventured closer.
"Hey, can I ask you guys something?" the teenager inquired, a hint of curiosity in his voice.
AS555 nodded. "Sure, go ahead."
The teenager pointed to AS555's armor. "I'm into tech stuff. Can you tell me more about the technical details of the chastity device? How does it work?"
Y8PWZ chuckled, exchanging a glance with AS555. "Well, young man, that's a more intricate part of our commitment. The chastity device is designed to ensure discipline and control, essential aspects of our service."
AS555, adhering to the training manual, offered a concise explanation. "It's a two-chambered design, providing secure containment for the testicles and penis. The intricate mechanics are part of our commitment to the Corps."
The teenager, unfazed by the seriousness of the topic, nodded. "Interesting. Are there any security features? Like, could someone tamper with it?"
AS555, considering the technical aspect of the question, responded with a level of detail. "Certainly, our chastity devices are equipped with advanced telemetry features. They transmit real-time data, including the wearer's location, health metrics, and current state. It's a comprehensive system designed not just for containment but also to ensure the well-being and security of our conscripts. Tampering with the device is strongly discouraged and practically impossible due to its tamper-proof design."
The teenager's eyes widened, a mix of fascination and apprehension. "So, it's like a high-tech monitoring system too?"
Y8PWZ, ever the eloquent speaker, chimed in, "Exactly. It's part of our commitment to accountability and ensuring that every conscript is in optimal condition. The advanced features of the chastity device contribute to the overall safety and well-being of our paramedics. We take security seriously within the Paramedic Corps."
The teenager seemed intrigued, his mind processing the technical intricacies. "And how do you, um, take care of personal needs with that thing on?"
AS555, maintaining the calm and professional demeanor typical of a tactical paramedic, addressed the teenager's practical concern. "Our armour suits are equipped with integrated storage units for human waste. When it comes to personal needs, the suits provide a convenient solution. They can be emptied in civilian toilets, but within paramedic facilities and transport, we have specialized connectors for efficient disposal."
The teenager's curiosity seemed satisfied, and he nodded. "That's… innovative."
Y8PWZ chimed in, "Even in our parade uniforms, the chastity cages remain the same. They are designed for convenience and can be emptied on civilian toilets. The Paramedic Corps ensures that our conscripts have practical solutions for every aspect of their daily routines."
Y8PWZ, clad in his red bellhop uniform, leaned in to share his perspective with AS555. "Wearing the chastity cage is, in a way, a form of liberation for me. I know the Corps is keeping us safe, and that allows me to concentrate fully on the service we provide."
As they engaged with more curious teenagers and potential recruits, AS555 and Y8PWZ maintained their professional demeanor, expertly balancing the technical aspects of their service with the broader narrative of duty, camaraderie, and the unique lifestyle shaped by the Paramedic Corps. Each question, whether about the armor suits, neuro conditioning, or the chastity cages, was met with clarity and a sense of pride in the commitment they had made to the Republic.
AS555 glanced down at his red bellhop uniform, the tight, tailored fabric emphasizing his physique. He began to describe the uniform with the detached precision reminiscent of Murderbot.
"Yeah, this ensemble is designed to make an impression. The jacket and pants connect seamlessly with a zipper, giving it that sleek, stylish look. It's not just about practicality; it's about presentation. The uniform creates a boyish appearance, clean lines that conform to the Corps's standards."
He continued, "Beneath it, I wear a white body glove, a sort of undersuit that serves both functional and formal purposes. It's the go-to for more upscale settings, emphasizing the professionalism we represent. The design is intentionally streamlined, avoiding unnecessary embellishments.
Y8PWZ chimed in, his voice carrying a touch of lightness that contrasted with AS555's detached tone. "And let's not forget the final touch for our parade uniform—a bit of cream to make the shaved skull shine. It adds that extra level of polish, you know?"
With that, he demonstrated his point by gently patting the top of AS555's head with his gloved hand.
The gesture, delivered with an air of casual familiarity, added a layer of irony to Y8PWZ's comment. The meticulous attention to presentation, even down to the shine of a shaven head, seemed both mundane and absurd in its calculated precision.
AS555, in his crimson armour, and Y8PWZ, the Youth Group Leader in the eye-catching red bellhop uniform, found themselves faced with another inquisitive teenager. The young mind, fueled by curiosity, delved into the intricacies of the VR-based neuro conditioning employed by the Paramedic Corps.
The teenager's question hung in the air, addressing a subject that veered into the less-discussed, more elusive realms of the conscripts' experiences. AS555, trained to navigate such inquiries with precision, embarked on an explanation.
"Well, it's a process. The VR conditioning, you see, forms a sort of mental structure. Walls, if you will. They guide our thoughts, our responses. It's not a physical barrier, but it shapes the way we perceive and interact with the world. The conditioning ensures a focused and disciplined mindset."
AS555's words, uttered with the crispness typical of paramedic, outlined the concept of mental walls without revealing the complexity that lay beneath. The teenager, absorbing this information, seemed to grapple with the notion of voluntarily embracing mental constraints for the sake of discipline and focus.
Y8PWZ, the Youth Group Leader, interjected with an air of camaraderie. "Think of it as a tool to help us stay sharp and effective. The Corps ensures we're at our best, ready to tackle any situation. It's part of the commitment we make to serve the Republic."
AS555, nodded with an air of certainty. "Yes, we're aware. The reports and data are available to us. We know the shifts in our thinking, the adjustments. It's transparent in a way."
The teenager, intrigued by the notion of self-awareness amid the changes brought about by the conditioning, probed further. "And you're okay with that? Knowing every little detail about what's been done to your brain?"
AS555, the embodiment of paramedic discipline, responded with a pragmatic shrug. "It's even more transparent this way. This way, we know why we think that way. It's open. There are no hidden influences. It aligns us with the Corps' objectives."
AS555, in his stoic armor, admitted, " "We're aware of the changes intellectually. Feeling them is subjective, more a realization of shifts in attitude and approach. Yes, there are moments. Sometimes, thoughts feel… different, like they're not entirely mine. It's part of the process, the melding of personal and programmed responses. It's a unique experience, navigating through this amalgamation of self and Corps-defined objectives." AS555, ever the embodiment of paramedic precision, explained, "Resistance is discouraged. The Corps believes in alignment, a collective purpose. Resisting would go against the very essence of what we're trained for—unity, discipline, and a shared mindset. It's a choice we make when we enlist."
Y8PWZ continued in his characteristic bellhop uniform, the white gloves emphasizing his gestures, "You see, the conditioning is a multifaceted approach. It's not just about the initial imprinting during conscript service. It's an ongoing process. We willingly submit to these sessions, the surveillance, and the continuous adjustment of our mental frameworks."
AS555 felt the need to clarify further, "It's not about suppressing our will, but rather aligning it with the greater purpose. The conditioning ensures that our choices, our desires, are in harmony with the mission and goals of the Paramedic Corps. It's a symbiotic relationship."
We go there and if we wouldn't our superiors, mates and even internal revision would make sure we go there. And all our lives are tracked and supervised from the moment we put the chastity cages on the AI knows where we are.
AS555 nodded, confirming the stringent monitoring, "The AI tracks our every move, every interaction. It's not about invasive surveillance; it's a safety net, ensuring our well-being, both physically and mentally. The system is designed to catch anomalies, to intervene if there's any deviation from the expected behavior."
AS555's mind briefly flickered back to the initial days of his conditioning, to the disconcerting unease that lingered after those first sessions. The disorientation, the feeling of being out of sync with the world, and the unsettling physical and mental adjustments—it had been a tumultuous introduction to the neuro conditioning that shaped his current existence.
He recalled the instructors' meticulous efforts to mitigate the impact of stimuli on the freshly conditioned recruits. The close supervision, the strategic use of headphones to dampen external noises, and the careful regulation of their diet—every measure aimed at easing the recruits into the altered state of their minds. It was a period of adaptation, of coming to terms with the new normal that awaited them.
But in the present, AS555 had integrated those memories into the fabric of his identity. The initial discomfort had given way to a sense of purpose, a clarity of thought, and an unwavering commitment to the Paramedic Corps. The conditioning had not only reshaped his perceptions but had become an integral part of the disciplined, focused mindset that defined his role as a tactical paramedic.

end of s4 spoilers hale fic hiiii
when jacob hale looks up, he sees the sky.
it's a brilliant shade of blue. higher up than any ceiling, crisscrossed by wires here and there between buildings. puffs of white, clouds, float lazily across. it makes him dizzy to look at. he sits down heavily on the concrete before he falls.
concrete, there's another new one. well, technically not new, he thinks, but.... no, new, it can be new. as far as he's concerned he's never ever seen it before. he's seen tile and linoleum and sometimes carpet and metal and the rough, chalky surface of typhon itself, but not sidewalk. it's harsh and scratches his hands.
wind. birdsong. he's behind a building, alone save for a few full garbage bins (aerolith standard, familiar) but he can hear the chatter of people walking around, probably doing a great deal better getting out of their pods than he. the rattle rattle rushing-by of people with stretchers for those who have done worse.
uncontrollably, he starts to cry. the sky blurs. he curls up, buries his face in his knees. the fabric of his pants is familiar against his cheek. he cries even more.
he half-expects (hopes?) any second now to hear a whirr from inside his head, and for the tears to stop like a faucet turned off- do not waste fluids, a lecture on the dangers of dehydration. it doesn't happen, of course. he keeps crying. he can't stop it alone.
eventually- he has no idea how long- there is a sound, a chime in his head. general notice. it is sunset, speaker informs everyone. hale lets the broadcast wash over him. your schedule will be delivered individually. you should be wherever you're supposed to be when the sun goes down.
and then, softer, just to him- i recommend watching.
so he looks, of course.
it isn't the quick dimming of lights he's used to. slowly, the sky begins to change. it's almost too subtle to notice it until suddenly there it is, the sky lit up in pinks and oranges. more colors he's never seen before. it's breathtaking. (every breath he does take smells of something new.) he wants to look away, hide his face in his hands, but it has been recommended that he watch this. so he looks. of course.
when it is finally all dark-
well, what did you think of your first sunset?
there is even more of a smile than usual in speaker's voice.
"i-" hale coughs, unused to speaking. his throat is dry. he tries again. it waits for him.
"it's beautiful," he says, more because he thinks it's what speaker wants to hear than anything else. it's objectively true, though. it is beautiful. he just doesn't know what to think about it.
his stomach twists.
you must be hungry, speaker says, but he really doesn't want to eat right now. well, speaker has all the data. perhaps he is hungry.
i would have you report to the cafeteria, but... in this case, i think your current location is an advantage. you will want to stay inconspicuous, and there is very low traffic to this area until the garbage gets removed tomorrow morning. I'll have something brought out to you.
he sits. he thinks about food. fine, maybe he's hungry. after a few minutes a small construct (is that what he looked like?) rolls out to him bearing a container and a large bottle, before sweeping up some loose dirt and litter and rolling away.
I gave you more than your usual hydration portion to account for the lost fluids, speaker explains. the practicality grounds him. he starts out with a sip of whatever it is- the same electrolyte solution as he's used to. emboldened, he opens the container. vegetables, thats something he knows. instant mashed potato. the protein source is unfamiliar, but the smell makes his mouth water. speaker is thrilled about it, so he's fortunately saved from having to ask.
aerolith dynamics is proud to inform you that that is grilled salmon you've got on your plate! So recently brought back from extinction, and immediately jumped to the top three in favorite protein source surveys among our earth division. go on, have a bite.
he bites. chews slowly, swallows. it's not bad. he couldn't say what's in it. salt, perhaps.... lemon?
you don't get that on typhon, do you! speaker sounds smug.
"I've had fish," he says automatically. he doesn't like the dig at typhon's food. he can't explain why. he just doesn't. he takes another bite so speaker won't ask him about it and he doesn't have to admit that the lab-synthezised "tuna fish" sandwich he and some other brave souls tried out at lunch for a week before it was recalled didn't resemble this whatsoever. and that this probably tastes, objectively, way better. his stomach churns. he feels sick. you dont simply skip a meal at aerolith and waste valuable food, and throw off your nutrition plan. he forces a bite of mashed potato into his mouth.
your brain needs proper nutrition to run. as he eats and drinks he can start to see the shape of what bothers him, and it's so stupid. it's embarassing. he can't tell speaker, can't risk insulting it, but he can think the words at least. speaker is in his head but not, you know, in his head.
he's earthstained.
literally- as in, the gravel in his boots and the dirt on the back of his pants. but also, it has only been a few hours and already he has looked up at the sky. he has seen his first sunset, and tomorrow he will probably see his first sunrise. he knows how dark the night gets, the sounds of birds. every breath he takes smells of earth.
when things go back to normal, he-
they won't. not his normal, anyway. he's going to be "set free".
but- he cant help but imagine going back to the only life he knows- if he did ever go back. he would be like all the others, another resident who sighs and says they miss clouds, they miss birds, that they miss the way the air smells after it rains, the air smells so sterile here. someone would say they miss being able to watch the sunset and he would agree. and he would miss the sunset too.
he- sven-he, not hale-he- had been asked for feedback, that time with the tuna sandwich. he'd been the first to take a bite, and he'd said "it's good", earning various doubtful looks from everyone else (and one the nutrition technician will be delighted to hear that, thank you for your feedback.) the person sitting across from him took a bite next. they chewed it thoughtfully, swallowed, and said "it's not bad, but it's not the real thing."
he forces into his mouth another bite of the real thing.
sayer would probably know a story about this.
#sayer podcast#sayerposting#as ive been saying i dont rly have a grip on hales like....internality#so this is my attempt to like do some metaphorical pottery. Im slapping clay on the wheel seeing what happens#sayer banging on the walls of this fic: THE FRUIT OF KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL!!! PLATOS CAVE!!! LET ME IN I CAN DO EITHER OR BOTH OF THOS

Bitcoin: The Renaissance of Money
I. Introduction Bitcoin is more than just a digital currency; it is a revolutionary force, akin to the great cultural movements in history like the Renaissance. Just as the Renaissance transformed art, science, and human perspective, Bitcoin is reshaping the very fabric of money, finance, and trust. This transformation challenges the status quo and introduces a paradigm shift in how we think about value and freedom.
II. The Historical Context of Money Throughout history, money has continually evolved. From the early barter systems, to the use of precious metals as coins, and eventually the introduction of paper money, the story of money is one of constant change. Each shift has responded to the needs and technologies of its time, but these systems have always relied on central authorities. With the advent of Bitcoin, a new chapter in the history of money is being written—one that removes the need for centralized control and hands power back to individuals.
III. Bitcoin: A New Dawn Bitcoin represents a new dawn in the evolution of money. It is decentralized, meaning that no single entity, government, or organization has control over it. This is in stark contrast to traditional fiat currencies, which are controlled by central banks and governments, subject to manipulation and inflation. Bitcoin offers an alternative: a peer-to-peer network that is open, secure, and verifiable by anyone, providing a financial system that belongs to everyone.
IV. Cultural Movement of Bitcoin Bitcoin is more than just a currency; it is a cultural movement. It embodies the ideals of freedom, sovereignty, and the democratization of wealth. For many, Bitcoin represents the ability to take back control of their finances—away from banks and traditional financial institutions that often operate without transparency. It aligns with values of fairness and empowerment, giving people the opportunity to participate in a global economy without intermediaries or unnecessary barriers.
V. Financial Sovereignty and Trust One of the core promises of Bitcoin is financial sovereignty. By holding Bitcoin, individuals gain full control over their money, free from the risks of bank failures, currency devaluation, or government interference. The blockchain, Bitcoin’s underlying technology, plays a key role in building this trust. Every transaction is recorded on a public ledger that is immutable and transparent, ensuring that the system remains trustworthy and accountable.
VI. Inducing a Moral Shift Bitcoin’s principles of sound money have the power to induce a moral shift in society. When money is fair, transparent, and unmanipulated, people’s behavior changes in response. Bitcoin encourages values such as delayed gratification, responsibility, and the creation of real value. By moving away from an inflationary fiat system—prone to manipulation and benefitting a select few—Bitcoin inspires a societal shift towards greater honesty, accountability, and long-term thinking. It fosters an environment where hard work and responsible stewardship of resources are rewarded, rather than undermined by inflation and financial manipulation.
VII. Blockchain: A Foundation for Honesty and Transparency The blockchain technology that underpins Bitcoin extends beyond currency—it is a foundation for honesty and transparency in numerous sectors. Blockchain can be applied to industries like supply chain management, where it provides end-to-end visibility and ensures the authenticity of goods. It can also be used for decentralized data management and verifiable public records, eliminating the need for blind trust in opaque institutions. At a time when public confidence in traditional systems is at an all-time low, blockchain offers a powerful solution for transparency and integrity, allowing individuals to verify information for themselves.
VIII. Breaking the Chains of Traditional Finance The traditional banking system is riddled with inefficiencies, high fees, and a lack of transparency. It often operates to the benefit of a few, leaving many underserved. Bitcoin addresses these issues by offering faster, cheaper, and more transparent transactions. It removes intermediaries, reduces costs, and creates a more inclusive financial environment. Bitcoin empowers individuals to take control of their financial destiny, bypassing the limitations and bureaucracy of traditional finance.
IX. Impact on the Future Looking ahead, Bitcoin has the potential to play a significant role in a more sustainable, fair, and decentralized economy. The integration of Bitcoin with clean energy solutions can create a harmonious relationship between financial innovation and environmental stewardship. Bitcoin mining can drive investments in renewable energy, transforming how we produce and consume power. A future built on Bitcoin is one where financial systems are fairer, more transparent, and aligned with sustainable practices.
X. Conclusion Bitcoin is more than a technological innovation; it is a transformative movement that has the power to reshape our understanding of money, value, and trust. Just as the Renaissance challenged old paradigms and ignited new possibilities, Bitcoin is doing the same for the financial world. It invites us to rethink what is possible and to be part of a revolution that champions fairness, transparency, and individual empowerment. Join the movement and help shape the future of money.

by David Litman
CNN has a shaky relationship with polling data, as CAMERA has documented previously. In a previous, admittedly more egregious case, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour appears to have entirely fabricated the existence of polling data that fit her preferred narrative. On July 14, however, CNN’s Abeer Salman took a slightly different track by using existing polling data, but only some of it.
In an article titled “Palestinian leader calls on world to ‘protect us,’ and his people respond with bitter laughter,” Salman reports on the declining popularity of Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas. To her credit, this is a story that needs to be told.
But Salman, who has a history of slanted coverage (and even uncritically publishing an antisemitic cartoon), doesn’t end there. She portrays the story as one in which Palestinians are frustrated that Abbas is not “protecting” them from “increasing Israeli settler violence and frequent, deadly Israeli military incursions…”
In doing so, Salman shifts the story from one of growing Palestinian extremism and violence into one of Palestinian victimhood. The narrative portrays the situation as one in which Palestinians are mocking Abbas’ “calls for peaceful resistance” (a dubious claim itself) not because they are increasingly supportive of violence against Israelis, but because they are victims of Israeli violence.
But the data, including the polling data from Salman’s own source, works against her narrative.
The CNN reporter cites a Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) poll, pointing out that “71% were dissatisfied” with Abbas as president and “74% demanded that he resign.”
However, Salman leaves out the other side of the story from those PCPSR polls. As Abbas’ popularity has declined, two other indicators have taken notable and contemporaneous turns: (1) support for the two-state solution has declined; and (2) support for “armed confrontations and intifada” has risen.
Tracking all three questions since March 2015, we see the following trend:
Source: Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research
Shortly after satisfaction with Abbas began dramatically declining (from 37% in 2020 to 32% in 2021, 23% in 2022, and 19% in 2023), support for armed confrontations and intifada” began sharply increasing (from 43% in 2021 to 52% in 2022 and 58% in 2023). Equally important to note is that support for a two-state solution has simultaneously declined in a similarly dramatic fashion (from 40% in 2022 to 27% in 2023).
That is, the story isn’t just one of declining popularity for Abbas. It’s one of greater support for violence and for rejection of living peacefully, side by side with Israel.
While one must always be cautious of reading too much into polling data, as a recent CAMERA study showed, around the same time that polling data began showing these trends, the level of Palestinian violence dramatically surged, jumping from 1,248 attacks in 2020 to 2,063 in 2021 and 2,674 in 2022. And while UN data suggests violence by Israeli settlers has also increased, the data shows quite clearly that settler violence grew more slowly and remains at levels dramatically lower than Palestinian violence, with 358 incidents in 2020, 496 incidents in 2021, and 849 incidents in 2022.
This preempts the suggestion that the growth in support for violence among Palestinians was a response to growing Israeli violence, given that the data shows the surge in violence has been overwhelmingly driven by the Palestinian side.
One other polling point left out: what Palestinians prefer over “peaceful resistance.” While Salman states that many Palestinians mock calls for “peaceful resistance,” she leaves out what the polls show they prefer: “armed struggle.” While the polling question has not been consistently asked over the same period by PCPSR, the March 2023 poll showed Palestinians chose “armed struggle” (54%) over “popular resistance” (21%) as the “most effective” method to end the conflict and achieve statehood (only 18% chose “negotiations”).
This information exposes Salman’s narrative as rather superficial and misleading in its portrayal of the larger context. While she is correct in noting Abbas’ decline in popularity, a story which deserves far more attention than it has gotten in Western media, her misleading narrative leaves works to distort the other highly relevant trends shaping Palestinian societal views.

Data Zones Improve Enterprise Trust In Azure OpenAI Service
The trust of businesses in the Azure OpenAI Service was increased by the implementation of Data Zones.
Data security and privacy are critical for businesses in today’s quickly changing digital environment. Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service provides strong enterprise controls that adhere to the strictest security and regulatory requirements, as more and more businesses use AI to spur innovation. Anchored on the core of Azure, Azure OpenAI may be integrated with the technologies in your company to assist make sure you have the proper controls in place. Because of this, clients using Azure OpenAI for their generative AI applications include KPMG, Heineken, Unity, PWC, and more.
With over 60,000 customers using Azure OpenAI to build and scale their businesses, it is thrilled to provide additional features that will further improve data privacy and security capabilities.
Introducing Azure Data Zones for OpenAI
Data residency with control over data processing and storage across its current 28 distinct locations was made possible by Azure OpenAI from Day 0. The United States and the European Union now have Azure OpenAI Data Zones available. Historically, variations in model-region availability have complicated management and slowed growth by requiring users to manage numerous resources and route traffic between them. Customers will have better access to models and higher throughput thanks to this feature, which streamlines the management of generative AI applications by providing the flexibility of regional data processing while preserving data residency within certain geographic bounds.
Azure is used by businesses for data residency and privacy
Azure OpenAI’s data processing and storage options are already strong, and this is strengthened with the addition of the Data Zones capability. Customers using Azure OpenAI can choose between regional, data zone, and global deployment options. Customers are able to increase throughput, access models, and streamline management as a result. Data is kept at rest in the Azure region that you have selected for your resource with all deployment choices.
Global deployments: With access to all new models (including the O1 series) at the lowest cost and highest throughputs, this option is available in more than 25 regions. The global backbone of the Azure resource guarantees optimal response times, and data is stored at rest within the customer-selected
Data Zones: Introducing Data Zones, which offer cross-region load balancing flexibility within the customer-selected geographic boundaries, to clients who require enhanced data processing assurances while gaining access to the newest models. All Azure OpenAI regions in the US are included in the US Data Zone. All Azure OpenAI regions that are situated inside EU member states are included in the European Union Data Zone. The upcoming month will see the availability of the new Azure Data Zones deployment type.
Regional deployments: These guarantee processing and storage take place inside the resource’s geographic boundaries, providing the highest degree of data control. When considering Global and Data Zone deployments, this option provides the least amount of model availability.
Extending generative AI apps securely using your data
Azure OpenAI allows you to extend your solution with your current data storage and search capabilities by integrating with hundreds of Azure and Microsoft services with ease. Azure AI Search and Microsoft Fabric are the two most popular extensions.
For both classic and generative AI applications, Azure AI search offers safe information retrieval at scale across customer-owned content. This keeps Azure’s scale, security, and management while enabling document search and data exploration to feed query results into prompts and ground generative AI applications on your data.
Access to an organization’s whole multi-cloud data estate is made possible by Microsoft Fabric’s unified data lake, OneLake, which is arranged in an easy-to-use manner. Maintaining corporate data governance and compliance controls while streamlining the integration of data to power your generative AI application is made easier by consolidating all company data into a single data lake.
Azure is used by businesses to ensure compliance, safety, and security
Content Security by Default
Prompts and completions are screened by a group of classification models to identify and block hazardous content, and Azure OpenAI is automatically linked with Azure AI Content Safety at no extra cost. The greatest selection of content safety options is offered by Azure, which also has the new prompt shield and groundedness detection features. Clients with more stringent needs can change these parameters, such as harm severity or enabling asynchronous modes to reduce delay.
Entra ID provides secure access using Managed Identity
In order to provide zero-trust access restrictions, stop identity theft, and manage resource access, Microsoft advises protecting your Azure OpenAI resources using the Microsoft Entra ID. Through the application of least-privilege concepts, businesses can guarantee strict security guidelines. Furthermore strengthening security throughout the system, Entra ID does away with the requirement for hard-coded credentials.
Furthermore, Managed Identity accurately controls resource rights through a smooth integration with Azure role-based access control (RBAC).
Customer-managed key encryption for improved data security
By default, the information that Azure OpenAI stores in your subscription is encrypted with a key that is managed by Microsoft. Customers can use their own Customer-Managed Keys to encrypt data saved on Microsoft-managed resources, such as Azure Cosmos DB, Azure AI Search, or your Azure Storage account, using Azure OpenAI, further strengthening the security of your application.
Private networking offers more security
Use Azure virtual networks and Azure Private Link to secure your AI apps by separating them from the public internet. With this configuration, secure connections to on-premises resources via ExpressRoute, VPN tunnels, and peer virtual networks are made possible while ensuring that traffic between services stays inside Microsoft’s backbone network.
The AI Studio’s private networking capability was also released last week, allowing users to utilize its Studio UI’s powerful “add your data” functionality without having to send data over a public network.
Dedication to Adherence
It is dedicated to helping its clients in all regulated areas, such as government, finance, and healthcare, meet their compliance needs. Azure OpenAI satisfies numerous industry certifications and standards, including as FedRAMP, SOC 2, and HIPAA, guaranteeing that businesses in a variety of sectors can rely on their AI solutions to stay compliant and safe.
Businesses rely on Azure’s dependability at the production level
GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Security Copilot, and many other of the biggest generative AI applications in the world today rely on the Azure OpenAI service. Customers and its own product teams select Azure OpenAI because it provide an industry-best 99.9% reliability SLA on both Provisioned Managed and Paygo Standard services. It is improving that further by introducing a new latency SLA.
Announcing Provisioned-Managed Latency SLAs as New Features
Ensuring that customers may scale up with their product expansion without sacrificing latency is crucial to maintaining the caliber of the customer experience. It already provide the largest scale with the lowest latency with its Provisioned-Managed (PTUM) deployment option. With PTUM, it is happy to introduce explicit latency service level agreements (SLAs) that guarantee performance at scale. In the upcoming month, these SLAs will go into effect. Lacey's Story: Part Three
There are moments of clarity under the influence of Obedience. When the signals that pulse outward from the pleasure receptors sewn into the fabric stagger their relentless assault on the user’s body to process lines of unseen data. The engineers at Fleur-de-lis call this buffering. It can be as brief as a second but rarely stretches beyond a minute. Most users don’t even notice it. They’re too high from the dozens of micro-orgasms experienced every minute. The anticipation is almost as intoxicating as the payoff. When those receptors fire off again, the pleasure is ten-fold. The user’s mind is fucked into oblivion. It’s essential to why Obedience works.
But there’s more to it than simply computing data. If the signals never ceased, if Obedience was a constant wave of pleasure, the brain would never have time to process anything. Early testers were left catatonic, drooling, moaning, serving nothing but relentless stimulation. Buffering was the solution. Turn the signals off for one second at a time. Decisions are made in the space of seconds. If the user can’t make one consciously, then their unconscious mind will. Words, actions, the appearance of autonomy are all possible because of buffering. The mind locks a decision in and the body acts out the rest.
With Lacey, Dr. Lange had unintentionally exploited a design flaw in Obedience’s programming: triggers can override the system. By denying Lacey the ability to orgasm freely, the system had no reward. Buffering grew interminable. She was trapped in a constant state of stifled satisfaction. As the system buffered, searching for a level of stimulation that didn’t exist for her, Lacey was free to make choices that other slaves couldn’t.
Tilting over the abyss, she locked her mind on Brad, and when the next wave washed over her she toppled down into the darkness.
Lacey was in trance when she got to Brad’s apartment.
She still had the key that Brad had given her the night he moved in. She felt resistance halfway into the keyhole but powered through it, twisting to the right until the blade snapped off inside the lock. Lacey had experience picking the lock on her dad’s liquor cabinet back home, but the forces that propelled her to Brad’s door searched for a simpler solution.
Lacey stumbled her way around the side of his apartment and found a large stone among a decorative bed of rocks just beneath a window. She didn’t blink when the glass shattered.
Brad was doing nearly thirty credit hours and working part time at Argento’s Pizzeria downtown. Lacey found him in his room, passed out in his jeans. She stripped silently by the bed, dropping her top and leggings to the floor in a few quick motions, then reaching backward to unclasp her bra.
Even as the bra hit the floor she could still feel Obedience on her skin. A phantom pair of hands kneading at her breasts, a tongue pressed to her clit. The world was suddenly louder and full of needless thoughts. She knew that she didn’t have long. She needed to go back under.
Settling in the bed next to Brad, Lacey pressed her breasts to the back of his t-shirt. He stirred but didn’t wake. She whispered, “Master.”
Silence.
Lacey could count the seconds since she’d taken off the bra. Inconvenient feelings like doubt filled the empty paradise of her mind. She pressed herself tighter to Brad, moved her hand down his chest, popped the button on his jeans. She continued her journey down his body until her hand found his soft cock.
Brad sighed now as she began to work.
“That’s right,” Lacey whispered, his shaft filling her grip.
“Fuck…” he was waking up now. “Your hands feel so good.”
Lacey pressed her lips to Brad’s ear and said, “Just like old times.”
Old times. Brad’s eyes snapped open.
He spun out of Lacey’s grip, somersaulting over the edge of the bed. When he sprang back up a second later he was on the other side of the room buttoning his pants.
“What the fuck Lacey?!” he cried. “I came back to you,” she said.
Her hands wandered seductively over her breasts as she tried to tempt Brad back to the bed. Brad may have stared, but he wouldn’t budge and he wanted answers.
“But what the fuck?” “I need you.”
“You can’t be here!” he shouted back. “You have to get dressed. You have to go home.”
An impasse. Lacey did the math, considering which combination of actions would get her back under the quickest. Fuck, she needed to cum. That was all that mattered.
She wanted to shout it again: “I need you!” She wanted to beg Brad to take her, to fuck her, to let her finally cum. But something was pulling Brad back. If he wasn’t going to claim his slave, she’d have to find a way to make him. Begging wasn’t the way.
“I need…” she started, still searching. Panicked breaths slowed to a steady heartbeat, a step in the direction of the calm and calculated Lacey Brad had known before. When she spoke again, she was fully committed to the words. “I need help.”
The fog lifted slowly with each small sip of tea. Brad put the kitchen counter between them like a barrier. By the end of the story he needed it to keep himself standing. The way she looked across from him, clutching the coffee mug close to her chest, his fake-retro Space Jam shirt dangling from her arms, made the twisted details of her story even more sordid.
“I hated him,” was all Brad could manage to say about Dr. Lange with the unspoken suggestion that the world was better off with him dead. “I left you. You needed me and I just left you.”
“Don’t be insulting,” Lacey said. “Nobody can stop me from making mistakes. Even if you knew, there was nothing you could have done.”
Lacey took another sip. The phantom signals had faded, but they left the memory of pleasure.
She hated the way Brad was staring at her from across the counter. It might have been a look she’d given him once. When she used to look into his eyes, when they were still Lacey and Brad, she could see how hopeless he was. No one had ever looked at her that way before and she actually pitied it. Lacey always knew that it was ending, whether it was in the next week or in the next ten years.
“But you can’t imagine what it feels like,” she started, distracted now by the reflection in her tea. “I don’t want to,” Brad said. “But it’s not bad,” she looked up. “It’s like…”
“You can’t ever put it back on,” Brad cut her off.
“I know.”
It was a small effort for Brad to convince Lacey to stay the night. He returned from his bedroom with a spare blanket and pillow tucked beneath both arms.
“Are you still at the Gardens?” he asked Lacey as he made up the couch for her.
She brushed a strand of hair back behind her ear. “I was living with Dr. Lange.”
“You can stay here as long as you need to,” he said.
Though Brad hadn’t lived here long, his apartment was nostalgic to Lacey. He had a way of slowing down her worst ambitions. When she was with him she didn’t care about classes or internships or transcripts. She just wanted to be in the world with him. Between the big moments that define a person is a laugh, a kiss, a fantastic fuck. Brad had always been that for her. Maybe the reason it was so easy for Lacey to leave him was because she knew how easily he would let her come back.
She took in the feeling of being in her safe space as she sunk into the couch, the leather crackling beneath her body. It was an old Craiglist couch that Lacey had felt obligated to pay a part of after breaking Brad’s futon. It still smelled like the old owner. She took a deep breath, inhaled the old musty smell of cigarettes and pizza grease. She wanted to cry. She wanted to cry. She wanted to cry for old friendships, for lost late nights, and for abandoned couches. It had been months since she’d felt anything remotely melancholy and she was desperate for it to stop. She wanted to bury it all down somewhere so far she’d never have to feel anything but total pleasure again.
As Brad lowered the blanket over her legs, Lacey gripped him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him down to her. She muffled her sobs with a kiss that Brad didn’t want to fight off.
“Lacey,” he finally pushed back. “I can’t...” “Of course you can,” she protested. Her arms hooked around his neck. “I know I hurt you once. But I was made for you, Brad. That’s why the universe brought me back to you.”
The universe. Brad had never been Lacey’s first choice. He didn’t give a fuck about fate or the universe or any of that cosmic bullshit. He had always chosen her. That’s what made it so goddamn special.
Brad fought his way through Lacey’s grasp and said, “I’m seeing someone. I’m happy.”
Lacey didn’t hesitate. “You can have us both!” “It doesn’t work like that.” “Of course it does! She’ll be your girlfriend and I’ll be your slave.”
“What?”
“I don’t even have to sleep in the bedroom. Put me in the utility closet if you want to. Just use me!Fuck me!”
“Please, Lacey,” Brad cried.
“It’s been so long,” she whined. Her hand floated downward, slipping beneath the elastic of her gym shorts, beyond the folds of her wet pussy. “Just say it…” “Please, stop…” “Let me cum,” She moaned. “And I’ll be yours forever!”
“Stop it!”
Brad’s voice bounced off of the living room walls. The world seemed to stand still as Brad gripped her wrists, pushing them down toward her chest.
Lacey was smiling. “If you’ll just listen,” she spoke softly. “If you’ll just let me tell you what it’s like…”
“No,” Brad released her quickly. “You’re being controlled, Lacey. Don’t you see that?”
“I’m completely naked under this shirt. Obedience brought me here, but this is who I am. This is who I’ve always been.”
“You are Lacey Stafford,” Brad said. “You used to practice campaign speeches in study hall, you wrote political fanfiction, you led a student strike when they took taquitos off the lunch menu. You’re the strongest girl I’ve ever known, Lacey. I won’t let you give up who you are.”
“Fuck,” Lacey shook her head, backing against the arm of the couch as her conscious mind took hold again. “It-It’s so hard to think,” she blinked through tears. “It’s like…I know who I am…but everything is pushing me back to that goddamn underwear.”
“I know it’s hard,” He said. “But when you wake up tomorrow you’ll be so far from it, and so thankful.”
Before Brad left Lacey for the night, he tucked her in and reached out to turn out the light. She stopped him.
“Okay,” he said. “The light stays on.”
When Brad had gone to bed, Lacey counted. Ninety-seven minutes had passed since her Obedience by Fleur lingerie landed on his bedroom floor.
Brad awoke the next morning to a sound he couldn’t place.
It was something in the neighborhood of a scream. At first Brad thought it was the echo of a dream, but then he remembered Lacey and her story and the Obedience by Fleur that he’d stuffed in his dresser drawer the night before. He sat up and saw the Space Jam shirt crumpled up on the floor, observed the contents of his sock drawer strewn about the room. His stomach sank.
The lingerie was gone.
“Lacey?” Brad called as he crept toward the living room. The faint sound of a stifled moan slithered down the hallway toward him.
He found Lacey where he’d left her. She sat there upright on the couch, perfect posture, hands folded over smooth, glistening legs. Her wide eyes were unbothered by the morning light streaming in from the window next to her. They were vacant but not unfeeling, like an affectation that she was desperately holding onto–only the appearance of emptiness. She was on the edge of something powerful and it took an incredible amount of self-control to hold it in. Was it pain? Frustration? All this so that a slave could meet her Master in the morning at attention. This behavior, Brad assumed, had been learned.
His gaze traveled down from her glossy eyes to her breasts, supported by the lingerie that just a few hours ago she’d promised never to wear again.
Lacey smiled as her head titled slightly to the side.
“Did you really think it was over?” she asked. “A cup of tea and an appeal to my old self? I told you that this is who I am. All those years living next door to me, sitting by your window just to catch a glimpse of me changing. The sleepovers and the movie dates and signing up for the same extracurriculars. Is this not what you’ve always wanted?”
“No,” Brad shook his head. “God, Lacey, no…”
“Do you remember in eleventh grade when I dated Austin Kemp? Do you remember how you cried to me? ‘Nobody’s ever going to love you the way I do. I’m the one who’s always there for you. I’m the one who gets nothing in return.’ Do you remember that?”
“Yes,” he said. “I was stupid.”
“You think you’re this good guy, Brad, but you’re just a guy. And all I’ve ever been is an object to you. You think if I came to you at sixteen, mindless and begging, you would stop yourself? You’re denying your nature. Take what belongs to you…Master.”
“No,” Brad repeated. “You need to take it off now, Lacey.”
“Is that what you want?” she asked, slowly tracing a line up the bare skin of her stomach. “You want this brainless bimbo naked, on her knees? I can still write campaign speeches if that’s your thing. I’ll preach about the joy of sucking Master’s cock, how each little lick takes me deeper, washing my own mind away. I’ll inspire an entire generation of empty holes to be fucked. Is that what gets you off, Master?”
Lacey rose from the couch, taking a step toward Brad still frozen at the end of the hallway.
“Don’t you want to know what it feels like? Don’t you want to know every little detail of how Dr. Lange fucked my mind into the obedient young sex toy he always fantasized about?”
Brad shook his head.
Lacey closed in. The hallway was behind Brad, but he felt trapped.
“What are you afraid of?” she asked. “I don’t know who you are,” he said. “You know exactly who I am,” she replied. “What do you want, Lacey? Why are you doing this? Why are you saying this?”
Her body was small against his. He could feel her hip bones pressing into him. Had she eaten since Dr. Lange died? Brad had to resist the urge to touch her. His arms remained at the side. He looked down into her glassy eyes, hungry eyes. Did his eyes look the same, he wondered.
A tight moan slipped from Lacey’s lips as Obedience’s signals moved through her body, firing off so powerfully now that she could barely hold back the pleasure. Pleasure without release.
“Because I’m a slave,” She managed to breathe. “And a slave needs her Master.”

Sociotype Profiles — SLI
Ego
Leading Si
SLIs are most focused on the ease and convenience of their experience and the avoidance of unnecessary pain and fuss. Although often coming across as hardy, gruff individuals, SLIs possess a gentle, sensitive nature that simply wishes to exist peacefully and in harmony with the functioning of their surroundings. Most profound is their awareness of the minutiae of sensory stimuli around them, with SLIs being able to notice slight changes in temperature, differences in the texture of fabrics and any other subtle information available to them via the five senses. This focus and awareness of their interaction with sense data is most particular to SLIs, who seek to carefully refine the quality of their experience, reducing flamboyance, pretension or gaudiness for that which is simple, minimalist and calm, minimising noise and discomfort. For this reason, SLIs tend to keep away from the disturbances and pressures of others, leading a quiet and individualistic existence. SLIs are particularly aware of the rate through which one uses up one's energy, knowing the extent to which activities in the present may tire and exhaust someone. As such, they seek to conserve much of their energy, using it sparingly in a manner that fulfills the task at hand to the greatest convenience and the least strain. Many SLIs tend to enjoy working with their hands, physically putting things together with natural materials of their own finding to create devices that are either useful in the day to day or simply enjoyable to make, often designing with a sense of simplified, non-pretentious beauty. SLIs may come across to some as lazy or apathetic, but actually are disposed towards a conservative, contented life of simple, but rewarding tastes and competent, non-strenuous work.
Creative Te
The refined experiences of SLIs are supported by an ability to handle practical problems in the most convenient and painless ways possible. SLIs have a good grasp of the processes and methods that can be used to interact with the world around them, allowing them to make sensible and pragmatic decisions in order to make things work well with their own hands. In order to feel most comfortable with their environment, SLIs need to ensure that problems and inconveniences are being handled without fuss and that there is an easy solution to issues that may come up. For this reason, much of the satisfaction that SLIs draw from their work is in being able to do so independently and self-sufficiently, not having to suffer the interference and meddling of others in their affairs. As such, SLIs like very much to be able to do things themselves at their own, easygoing pace. They tend to be very capable at fixing things, especially in the form of handiwork. SLIs are in their element taking apart a broken device, finding out what has gone askew and coming up with a quick solution. Similarly, SLIs may enjoy tinkering with tools and devices, maintaining and upgrading the quality or efficacy of their possessions while experimenting to find ways of handling issues with even less exertion. They are also able to manage funds and resources sparingly and effectively, in a way that avoids financial hardship and the disruption of their easygoing lifestyles. Such practical skills enables the self-sufficiency that SLIs most appreciate, not needing others to help an already contented existence, where they are mentally and physically capable of sorting out any problem themselves.
Super-Ego
Vulnerable Fe
The need of SLIs to live peaceful, quiet lives results in little appreciation of the passions and dramas other people may want them to feel. SLIs tend to be individualistic, living by their internal rhythms and feeling little need to conform or fit in with the rest of society. They much prefer it when their experiences are not tied up with that of people at large and are happy do what they feel like doing, free of social expectation. While they may turn up to functions and events that personally interest them, SLIs will feel little need to stick around just because everyone else is doing so and are only likely to participate as far as their personal interests go. Furthermore, generating or contributing to group enthusiasm is entirely alien to SLIs, who are often very sparing in their emotional expressiveness, tending towards reserved and dry factual communication that others may find boring. If there is some great fuss or need that has whipped up others into a frenzy, SLI may be the complacent voice of calm, wondering what all the fuss is about, while doing little to indulge such passions. Such an approach can be perceived by others as belittling or undermining their struggles and causes, but SLIs are unlikely to notice or particularly mind, simply preferring for such people to take their noise elsewhere and leave them in peace. Similarly, SLIs are unlikely to give much regard to how they come across to others and even though they may have good taste in their sensory preoccupations, may dress according to their personal comforts rather than accepted fashions and aesthetics, causing them to come across as eccentric. Despite this, SLIs often become quite excited about new developments in their own interests, and derive genuine enjoyment from doing the things that bring them personal pleasure. It just so happens that such activities are often too offbeat to be embraced by any group or society as something enjoyable to the community.
Role Ni
The easygoing lifestyle of SLIs frees up much time for thought and reflection, with SLIs usually being able to think ahead and foresee the likely consequences of their actions when needed. SLIs can take care to apply their prudence, not just in terms of every-day problems but also towards the long-term if necessary. Often this serves to let them know when there is no point getting up to work on something, as a problem will largely sort itself out anyway. Such an approach also allows them to involve a degree of planning in their life-choices, picking a career or livelihood that they know is not just enjoyable in the here and now, but will remain a stable and safe career choice in the years to come. In this way, SLIs are able to avoid future discomforts that might befall those who are more short-sighted. However, SLIs have little appreciation for considering a grander purpose beyond the comfort of their own existence, and are unlikely to sacrifice their enjoyments for some higher cause. After all, SLIs simply want to live their lives in comfort and do not want to be included into higher purposes. The continued need to consider the far-reaching outcomes alongside the short-term can be a strain for SLIs over time, and they much prefer not having to worry about the tediousness of a singular path to follow. Instead, SLIs prefer where there are multiple options available and they can pick and choose which ones seem most comfortable in the moment. Freeing up options such as this reduces the tendency to stick to any particular route and avoid its consequences, allowing the freedom to try something else.

Although disposed to solitude, SLIs aspire to hold deep feelings of attachment towards particular individuals and treasure the close relationships they have. SLIs may be very focused on finding just the right sort of person to spend their time with and may take a long time to encounter the person they feel is good for them. They are usually very accepting of people, willing to give others a chance, yet at the same time, carefully examining others to work out how they feel towards them. Although externally appearing emotionless, SLIs have a gentle, sensitive centre that needs to be entrusted to a significant other. However, SLIs largely lack the initiative to go out looking for new people and are bereft of the desire to play themselves up to groups of people in an attempt to win others over. To SLIs, the idea of changing how they are to appeal to strangers is tasteless and insincere to their internal values. Furthermore, SLIs can have a lot of difficulty expressing how they feel to someone they love, opting instead for physical actions of assistance or care. SLIs lead rather private, reserved lives that can result in social isolation, depriving them of adequate opportunity in finding their special person. While some encounter the good fortune of being discovered by someone genuinely interested in them as a person, others might not find anyone. A number of SLIs find substitutes for human relationships in the form of keeping pets, being able to form a treasured bond with an animal that places no expectations on them to be anything other than themselves. In such situations, SLIs tend to prefer more independent animals with fewer needs or demands, such as cats. In addition, the personal feelings and values of SLIs tend to be a major source of development and growth, many becoming rather philosophical over time. SLIs may intellectually develop the clarity of their conscience, putting together their personal opinions and musings on issues they feel carry moral importance, largely for their own satisfaction, although being flattered should anyone be interested enough to listen.
Suggestive Ne
SLIs tend to remain in their comfort zones when left to their own devices and spend much of their time savouring the sensations they already have. Because of this, they rarely give sufficient thought to alternative options and the potential to experience a range of other possibilities in the world. Although able to sufficiently handle a problem in front of them, SLIs are unlikely to take the initiative to try out new ideas and seek unexplored horizons. As such, their lifestyles can become overly mundane and uninteresting without unusual events to spice them up. However, SLIs greatly appreciate novelty and ideas of interest when introduced to them by someone else, especially when they can see some use or practical application of said ideas in their lives. SLIs are largely open-minded in nature, willing to give new experiences and people the benefit of the doubt, but simply do not have the initial awareness of potential situations to pursue these new experiences. They also find it highly refreshing to be around people who can allow these opportunities to manifest and be explored, appreciating the intellectual excitement this brings to their lives. SLIs are largely unsure as to which possibilities carry potential and are usually happy to go along with the insights and impulses of another person whom they have a close bond with. Furthermore, SLIs tend to be largely humble and unaware of their potential to do things they have not done before. Although largely able to assess the competence and quality with which they have already accomplished tasks, SLIs largely rely on the experiences they have already had to make decisions and are largely unable to compute unknown variables. Having someone tell them the many things they could possibly do if they tried can be an enlightening experience for SLIs as they feel the avenues available to them suddenly opening up.

SLIs are gentle and peaceful in nature, generally acting with great emotional and physical restraint so as to avoid any conflicts with other people. Fights and arguments are very unpleasant to SLIs, who dislike aggression and unnecessary drama. As such, SLIs may be accused of cowardice by others in their tendency to minimise intrusion into the lives of others and their attempts to stop others from intruding into theirs. Nevertheless, such a judgement is often misconstrued, as SLIs are capable of being very tough when the situation calls for it and their avoidance is simply a means of keeping their experiences peaceful, rather than out of any fear of being threatened. Like much else, SLIs are rarely hurried or nervous when walking away from a conflict, simply moving calmly off to another patch. Despite their efforts to avoid a confrontation, there may be some that are determined to get a rise out of the SLIs. However, SLIs tend to be unflappable, with insults and jeers simply bouncing off of them and the fact that they are so unfazed by such assaults can irritate people even further. Nevertheless, when threatened with violence, SLIs are usually capable of responding with a swift but collected effectiveness, making sudden use of any tactical advantages at their disposal and making people think twice about trying again. Similarly, in emergency situations, SLIs can jump into sudden activity with a great emission of conserved energy, saving their own lives and those of others in the process. In these situations, a rarely seen aggressive side to SLIs can be seen, which fades away once the danger has passed.

Although individualistic and largely removed from societal obligations, SLIs can be rather orderly in their approach to their own interests. SLIs tend to have certain structures to their work and leisure, with everything of theirs tending to have its place. They are usually very good at noticing where something is out of place in a pattern or ordering and are capable at fixing such inconsistencies so things are able to function without incident. Capable organisation and the careful filing of particular bits and bobs in the right folders and drawers tends to be crucial to the detailed and meticulous activities SLIs tend to perform, as well as a certain neatness and consistency. Similarly, SLIs tend to work to a particular order or routine of their own creation, rarely changing this order because often it is ideally tailored to their personal needs and conveniences. Similarly SLIs are often well-reasoned, level-headed individuals with a good sense of their priorities in life, allowing them to be of counsel to others seeking help. However, any structures they may create are seen more as guidelines for prudent living and keeping their lives in a generally peaceful order, rather than any absolute commitment and certainly not laws for others to follow or obey. SLIs have little patience for allegiances or commitments to ideologies or the submission to any legal system. In such scenarios, they are inclined to hold a form of pragmatic, logical relativism, thinking that in some cases this might be true, but in other scenarios, a largely different position may be equally as valid. As such, orderly SLIs can quickly eschew any attempt to impose order that in any way feels harsh or impractical to them. SLIs may be inclined on occasion to detract any process away from a set order to a steady tinkering with different influences and available methodologies, finding ways that feel right to the occasion and adapting to changes, rather than resisting them. In addition, they may be very loose and open to spontaneous breaks and changes in a routine, being happy to go with the flow of those they trust.
