She had killed this man. She had killed him and she did not regret it. She rather enjoyed it somehow.

It was the feeling of falling into something she had avoided for so long and now she dived in completely. She hit the surface, felt the sudden pain of the impact as she slid through the tension of the water and plunged into the comforting, dark cold. No need to hold back anymore, just devour. 

And she stayed there, as she sank her sharp teeth into her victim's neck and the red liquid into her own body. Once she started, cessation was an eternity away. There was nothing to stop her, for the feeling of devouring something completely, of stealing something completely off one's power and making it hers, made her hands tremble and made her feel more alive than ever before. 

Even if she was far away from the living. But the more life was drained from the being in her arms, the more she felt the energy and how her veins pulsed, how she was taken to a delirium she had never dared to feel. Hadn't she? Reality and vision mingled as images flashed past her.

A figure in a black cloak, shrouded in darkness, cold dark eyes gazing down from an equally gloomy fortress. There are wafts of mist enveloping her thoughts and this image, as if the black walls stand between clouds. But they are only rocks surrounding it, barren rocks, a defence against all those who are not part of his world. Not dead, not drinking the blood as Galadriel does now. Darkness mantles him, and from darkness he was born.

She knew who he was. She knew the angular, steely face, had even seen it smile, framed by dark curls. And she knew she would go to him. Because he had called her. Her damnation was final, but there was nothing that could save her from him now. She was completely encircled, standing in blood and had given her own to stop him, to become him, to face him. She would come to him. To the dark lord Sauron.

He had made her what she was now. He had saved her from a death she had welcomed and against which she had not resisted. It had been time to go, but he hadn't let her go. Unwilling to live an eternity without her, he had dragged her into the darkness, into the world of shadows she had always despised. Hungry and abandoned, she had done what her body had demanded. She had drained an elf, then a human, and now she saw them lying there, limp and so dead. All of her doing, all her own work of destruction.

She stood up from her kneeling position and stared down at her doing, clenching her hands into fists as she contemplated her fate. One body simply lay carelessly on top of the other. She had almost torn their clothes off in her haste and left only shreds hanging down loosely. They lay on the cold ground of the forest between the trees that Galadriel had once cherished and had been the source of her energy. But now they were only a distraction. She despised the thought, she despised what she had done and she would avenge it.

She wiped the blood from her lips, but didn't bother with the rest that ran down her neck and over her white, loose dress. Why should these stains mean anything to her when the stains were on her soul anyway? She looked up at the dark sky, far away from all the light she stood. Everywhere but here and within her the glow had been dispelled.

He had killed and deceived more than she could count, and only a few had come to be reawakened and linger on the other side. If she had to come to him, she was determined to turn it around, to use the time well. To avenge the deaths.

So she searched for him, searched for the image she had seen.

the fact that in trop canon, sauron is written with bearing in mind the fact that he LOVES galadriel??????? L O V E S HER???

imagine being galadriel knowing that the evil incarnate loves you? the abyss that she gazed into with hatred for so long gazed back into her with love!!!

and she is the only thing he is capable of loving? bc there is this cosmic connection between them that is just out of this world, metaphysical, entirely unique??? that they have their very beings bound to one another? that it's something much greater and of a higher essence than anything shallow and common? that they are the light and the dark fated to never unite but being eternally connected in a way that they are unable to with anyone else?

what are we even supposed to do with this information? how are we going to collectively ever be sane again???

tbh characters like galadriel are more important now than ever. there's morfydd clark saying that every time she's played a human woman, shame has been at the heart of the character, but there is no shame in galadriel.

galadriel turning her back on the ethereal light of elven heaven to hunt down and savage a demigod with her dead brother's dagger, only to accidentally fall in love with that demigod isn't the fragile, guilt-laden journey we're used to seeing women undertake.

it's unapologetic. it's defiant. it's staring into the storm and deciding you have the right to step forward into that tempest. (a decision men have made time and time again in story and in song while women are rarely given the opportunity.) she's not watching the rings of power from a distance. she's the heart of the show, her delirious appetite to kill sauron the only reason the story even exists in the first place. and yes, for those knowingly or unknowingly anxious about women, it's a hard watch. that's exactly why they should watch it.

i love galadriel. i hope she never takes her hand off the hilt of her sword. i hope she never learns shame.

Felt cute, might delete heal Middle-Earth later

Inspired by this incredible concept art by Julien Gauthier:

Made this for my singular day at NYCC this year, but only started construction after the Rings of Power finale (in case they showed us an alternative Galadriel-embracing-darkness costume). I debated dying my roots back to blonde, but we're going to say that the darkness is seeping in. (I also considered that this could be half-Maia Celebrían, because interpretation is fascinating).
