Eddie Masterlist #2
Summary: A colleague at work is getting far too close to (Y/n) and she doesn't want to tell Eddie. But when he finds out, he makes it clear that if the guy doesn't back off, he will have a big problem. Eddie doesn't play fair.
Enjoy.

A sigh tumbled past (Y/n)'s lips as she dragged her fingers through her damp hair and walked out the bathroom. She kept the towel draped over her shoulder even though she was in her bra and underwear, and held her clothes in a bundle beneath her arm.
A shower seemed to have been the wrong move as it had drained the little energy she had left. She felt like a battery that was close to empty.
When she headed into the bedroom, (Y/n) placed her clothes in the hamper and a smile pulled at her lips when she looked over at Eddie.
He was stacking clothes away in the chest of drawers next to the window. It was clear he had either heard or simply sensed (Y/n)'s presence because he immediately glanced over his shoulder to look at her and a smirk lit up his face when he took in her attire.
"Any pyjamas in there?" (Y/n) tilted her head to one side and placed the towel on the bed once she'd dragged it through her hair for a final time. She knew Eddie had a pile of clean clothes that he was putting away.
He looked between (Y/n) and the pile for a few seconds before he nodded and fished out the pyjamas he knew she wanted. He knew she would want the new maternity ones she had been wearing all week since they were stretchy and comfy around her growing bump. (Y/n) was six and a half months pregnant, but having twin girls meant she was a lot more uncomfortable than before. Those pyjamas were the comfiest thing for (Y/n) to wear right now.
"These ones?" Eddie spun around and padded across the carpet until he was stood just in front of (Y/n) near the end of the bed.
He held the pyjamas out but when (Y/n) went to take them, he lifted his arm above his head, securing them just out of (Y/n)'s reach. His smile changed into a smirk and he started waving the pyjamas from left to right while his other hand reached out to cup her bare hip. He stepped closer until their chests were pressed together and he could feel her bump pressing into his abdomen.
The way he tilted his head to one side and flashed his teeth made (Y/n)'s knees quake. She tried pushing up on her tip toes, but Eddie simply did the same and held his arm even higher out of her reach.
"Eddie…" When he didn't respond and simply smiled, (Y/n) huffed and dropped her arms down. "Do you want us all to freeze?"
She watched the way his hands followed her movements, watching how she anged her head to one side and pressed her hands on either side of her bump. She had just been in a hot shower and it was getting late, if he didn't let her get changed she was going to start getting cold. She was already shivering.
"I suppose not." He murmured softly before he ducked his head down and stole a kiss.
(Y/n) felt his arms moving as he kissed her. He dropped her pyjamas down onto the bed beside them so he could cup her stomach with one hand and move the other to cradle the side of her neck and angle her head to better meet his lips.
It felt like he was stealing all the air from her lungs and it left her lips tingling against Eddie's in the best way. She let him twist her to the right and gently nudge her back until she was sat down on the end of the bed and he was hovering over her. His hands still attached to her with his fingers roaming her skin and a content hum vibrating from his lips against hers.
"Go on then, don't want all my girls getting cold." Eddie brushed his thumb along the edge of her jaw and pecked the corner of her mouth before he stood up again.
(Y/n) murmured a soft 'thank you' and grabbed her pyjama bottoms to start getting changed.
Eddie went back to putting the clothes away and he rounded the other side of the bed to put a few things in (Y/n)'s bedside drawer. But he paused when he saw her phone light up. Whilst he had been tidying up, he kept noticing her phone flashing and heard the small vibration as it rattled against the table since it was on silent.
He put it down to emails or the odd message, but that was quite a few messages she had gotten this afternoon that he had noticed.
Reaching out, Eddie held her phone and scrolled over the lockscreen to see the notifications. His brows furrowed and his chest tightened like his lungs were expanding and were no longer going to fit in his chest. He could feel his jaw grinding as he looked at just how many messages (Y/n) had received since she had been tidying up and then gone for a shower.
All from the same person. Someone Eddie didn't know.
"Who's Nigel?"
The gritty edge to Eddie's voice caught (Y/n) off guard as she pushed up off the bed to drag her pyjama bottoms up over her hips so they sat comfortably on her hips. She smoothed her hands up and down her bump while she frowned and glanced behind her at her husband.
"Hm?" Her brows furrowed in confusion until Eddie shook his hand to signal that he had picked up her phone. "Oh, he's one of the dispatchers at work. What does he want?"
(Y/n) shrugged and waited for Eddie to read out the messages she had received.
Nigel was one of the dispatchers she worked with, but he wasn't someone (Y/n) classed as a friend. He was a colleague. Someone (Y/n) didn't talk to outside of work and someone she didn't know well enough to come home talking to Eddie about him. She had better things to do when she came home than mention someone she didn't really want to know besides saying hello when they were on shift together.
"Where'd you want me to start?" The edge to his words made (Y/n) shiver and the way his upper lip curled had (Y/n)'s expression falling. "How are you? Are you busy? Are you at home? What are you up to? Jesus, he's trying hard."
Eddie unlocked (Y/n)'s phone and continued to scroll up through the messages to see how many times he seemed to message her on a daily basis. For someone (Y/n) had never mentioned, this guy sure did message her a lot. Eddie didn't like that. He didn't like someone trying so hard to get (Y/n)'s attention like this.
It didn't take a genius to gather what this guy wanted. Eddie wasn't stupid. If someone was messaging (Y/n) like this and asking such casual questions so often, it was clear he wanted to be a good friend. Or more than a friend.
That wasn't allowed.
She was Eddie's wife, and he didn't share.
(Y/n) didn't have a response for that. She knitted her hands together in front of her fidgeted from one foot to the next, unsure what to do or what she was supposed to say. Eddie could read the messages- well, that didn't exactly matter since he was clearly scrolling through every message Nigel had ever sent her.
But she didn't care if he looked. He would see (Y/n) barely messaged Nigel back. She didn't want to talk to him, she regretted getting his number from Maddie and that had only been to see if he was able to swap a shift with her at short notice. Since that first message, Nigel had barely stopped trying to converse with her and (Y/n) didn't want to be rude. They worked together, it wouldn't do her any favours to start any arguments or friction.
"Baby, he messages you almost every day by the looks of it. Why didn't you tell me?"
An unsettling feeling started to pool in the pit of her stomach and (Y/n) moved one hand to rub along the base of her abdomen where one of the twins was kicking and wriggling. The nervousness had woken at least one of their girls up. At least Chris was in bed watching a movie, so it was very unlikely that he would hear any part of their conversation.
She tilted her head down, keeping her eyes on her exposed stomach as she willed this conversation to go away. (Y/n) had agonised about blocking Nigel from her phone so Eddie would never find out this guy was messaging her.
If anyone so much as looked at (Y/n) while she was out with Eddie his protective side would flare up. She knew her husband hated anyone talking to her, especially if he didn't know them and Eddie could get insanely jealous. This possessive streak in him was starting to expand now that (Y/n) was pregnant too.
"He messages a lot, but I- I don't respond most of the time. He just… keeps texting."
"And this guy works with you? Is he bothering you at work too?" Eddie's tone darkened when that last question seemed to dawn on him. If this Nigel was messaging (Y/n) this much when she was at home, then there was no telling what he was like when he was actually on shift with (Y/n).
The way Eddie stared at her made (Y/n) feel like a spotlight was shining directly on her and she didn't know where to look or what to do with herself.
She decided on trying to finish getting dressed and she reached for her shirt on the bed whilst keeping her eyes aimed down so she didn't have to see the emotions raging across her husband's face. She saw the way Eddie tossed her phone onto the bed with a grunt and steered round the side of the bed to stand in front of her. He was close enough that (Y/n) could feel each laboured breath he took which made his chest heave.
And when (Y/n) tried to pull her top over her head, she gasped when Eddie unravelled it from her and tossed it to the floor. Her eyes followed her shirt until Eddie's hand was cupping her chin and he turned her head so she was forced to look up at him.
He didn't like it when she avoided his gaze, it made him angry, it made Eddie feel like she was trying to hide something from him. They both knew Eddie could always read every expression on (Y/n)'s face and her eyes told him almost as much as when she spoke.
"Will you answer me?"
The lack of a reply was clearly telling Eddie that this guy was hassling her at work as well as when she was at home and it infuriated Eddie. If he'd of known he would have found this man sooner and told him to stay clear. Eddie had ways of making people listen to him and stay away from his wife.
"He's not pushy or anything, he… he hasn't done anything-"
The baby twisted awfully in (Y/n)'s stomach that flooded with panic when her phone vibrated on the bed. Both their heads snapped in the other direction and (Y/n) coiled her arms to her chest when Eddie dropped her chin in favour of snatching her phone from the bed.
He scoffed with a sickening smile that looked deadly and he threw the phone which bounced off the edge of the bed and landed on the carpet with a loud thud.
Another text, from Nigel.
If he was this persistent when (Y/n) didn't reply to him, Eddie hated to think what would happen if she actually continued a thread of conversation with him. The messages would never end. They would become bold. Nigel would try his luck with her. He would probably think she was leading him on, that could end with a dangerous situationt which Eddie wasn't going to allow to happen.
Eddie tangled one hand into his hair and tugged until his scalp burned with satisfaction and he was sure a few hairs had come loose between his fingers. He stepped away from (Y/n), catching the way her face fell when she clearly thought he was going to walk away from her, possibly even walk out the house since he was riled up enough.
He liked the way (Y/n) reached out for him. He could see the panic in her eyes and he felt the desperation in her touch as she dug her fingers into his bicep to stop him from walking away.
"Last time I checked, I was your husband." The low, gritty tone of his voice made (Y/n) clutch his arm tighter. "So why is this guy cosying up to you?"
Moving her hands, (Y/n) curved her arms tight around his bicep and glued herself up into his side. She hated when Eddie got angry, especially if he was angry at her. He hardly ever got mad with her about anything and his protective side was heart warming, when he didn't become controlling.
She didn't want him getting annoyed or upset over someone who was clearly just getting a little too friendly. (Y/n) wouldn't respond to his messages, she would barely talk to him at work. She would make it clear that she wasn't interested.
Although (Y/n) thought that implication would have been clear by the ring on her finger and the very evident baby bump she walked around with. It was highly unlikely a pregnant, married woman would want to start a relationship with someone else. (Y/n) had never given Nigel that impression, she knew she hadn't.
"Baby, please. He messages me but I don't message back a-and he's always chatty at work. I can't blank him when we work together."
If (Y/n) tried to have a word with Nigel or gave him the cold shoulder it would make things uncomfortable at work. She didn't want to cause problems, (Y/n) would rather keep politely putting Nigel off and making it clear she was married than become crude with him.
"Has he done anything, gotten too close, overstepped the mark-"
"No, he- sometimes he follows me to the break room, to try and chat… and he's always around. But he hasn't done anything, baby I swear."
(Y/n) would have told him if Nigel had done something. If he had touched her or tried to kiss her or made rude remarks or made her uncomfortable then (Y/n) would have told Sue at work and she would have told Eddie. The only reason (Y/n) hadn't told him that Nigel kept messaging her was because she knew Eddie's possessive side, his temper, would flare up like this.
It was easier to keep Eddie in the dark than let him fuss over something that wasn't a big deal.
"I don't like the sound of some creep getting close to you at work, where I can't see or protect you. If he's bothering you, maybe I should go down there and find this guy, have a word with him."
Dread pooled in (Y/n)'s eyes and she clutched Eddie's arm tighter to her chest as she felt herself leaning into him like she was either trying to push him onto the bed or push her will onto him and get him to think differently.
She didn't want that.
(Y/n) didn't want Eddie to do that. He had warned one of her old friends away from her before they got married and that ended with Eddie punching the guy in broad daylight and threatening him to stay away from (Y/n). She couldn't have Eddie doing that at work, it would get him into trouble and it would cause friction between everyone.
It would never be just 'having a word' where Eddie was involved. It wouldn't be a simple conversation. It would be a low threat followed by a punch and Eddie would probably end up plastering Nigel up against the wall to make his point.
"No! No, baby I don't wanna cause any trouble, please." (Y/n) shook her head and gave a sharp tug on Eddie's arm before she winced.
She loosened her hold on Eddie's arm in favour of moving around so she could sit down on the end of the bed. Standing around and panicking wasn't helping, it was making her feel uneasy. She eased down onto the bed and held onto Eddie's hand until he took the hint and sat down next to her.
His hand instantly clamped down around her thigh, almost as if he was staking his claim and making it clear that she was his wife. And nobody else's.
"And I don't want you going to work with this guy practically stalking you all the time. Doesn't he know you're married? You're pregnant, for God's sake." The way Eddie waved his free hand towards her stomach showed how angry he was; his hand was trembling.
(Y/n) leaned her cheek on his shoulder and pushed up close into his side, hoping that some touch and affection would warm him up and calm him down a little.
She was sure he was starting to thaw out when his hand moved from clenching down on her thigh to reach out for her stomach instead. He grazed his fingers along her stomach and turned his head to attach his lips to the top of her head.
His eyes found their way down to her stomach and just thinking about the twins was starting to rile Eddie up again. He assumed that (Y/n) being pregnant would make it clear to any other man that she was taken. He didn't think anyone would come near her or try anything on with her. Eddie thought he had no cause for concern now that she was pregnant, it was pretty clear (Y/n) was his wife, his girl, and she wasn't interested in anyone else.
The fact that this guy was still trying to pursue and get close to (Y/n) while she was pregnant made Eddie wonder if he would become dangerous. Eddie didn't like the thought of (Y/n) being at work with this creep while Eddie was either home or on shift. He would be out of the way, unable to help or protect all three of his girls if Nigel tried anything.
"Eddie…"
"Tell Sue that he's bothering you."
(Y/n) tucked herself deeper into Eddie's neck and moved her arms to loop them both around his torso, imbedding herself into his side. She didn't want to do that. She didn't want to go to Sue and explain that Nigel was simply messaging and getting a bit too familiar with her.
He hadn't sent anything explicit. He hadn't made any rude remarks to (Y/n) or made an advance on her. He hadn't tried to touch or kiss her or become inappropriate. (Y/n) had no reasoning to go to Sue and complain when nothing had happened and all she had was a feeling that he was becoming too familiar for her liking.
"But-"
"You tell her, or I'll go and have words with him myself. What would you prefer?" Eddie glided his fingers up and down her bump while he sighed into her hair.
He could feel the tiny ounce of resolve in (Y/n) fading away as the seconds passed. She knew he was serious. She knew Eddie had absolutely no problem with going down to dispatch, asking around and finding out who this Nigel guy was. And Eddie would delight in telling Nigel that if he didn't back away from (Y/n), that he would get to see Eddie's darker side.
"I'm just trying to keep you safe; all three of you." Eddie couldn't keep her safe all the time when they didn't work together and (Y/n) didn't work from home. He had to make sure her and the twins were safe.
He would do whatever he had to in order to look after his family.
***
Closing her eyes, (Y/n) leaned forward until her arms were resting on the counter and she could arch her lower back out. She thought sitting in those desk chairs would have made her feel a bit better and that they would help her back. The chairs were curved to support the back, considering all of the dispatchers had to be sat down for a few hours at a time and spent all day behind a desk.
(Y/n) put it down to the twins adding pressure on her back and weighing her stomach down rather than the chair and desk she had to sit at.
The sound of the kettle boiling away rattled through (Y/n)'s head, but the steam and the warmth was comforting.
She and Maddie often brought in flavoured coffee and special tins of hot chocolate to get them through their shifts. Coffee was a bit too caffeinated at the moment and (Y/n) wasn't supposed to have too many, so she had chosen a hot chocolate for now.
When she felt a warm hand on her shoulder she smiled, imagining that it would either be Maddie or Josh entering the break room. They were the two people (Y/n) was close friends with here at work. And Maddie was always asking about the twins and how (Y/n) was doing.
But she glanced to the left and felt a shiver coursing down her spine as her expression dropped.
It was Nigel.
Anytime (Y/n) escaped into the break room whether it was for a drink or just a moment to herself after a bad call, she was starting to find Nigel hanging around. He clearly didn't grasp the concept that (Y/n) didn't want to spend her breaks with him or have him hanging around her every moment of the day.
"Hi there." He grinned down at her with such a wide smile it was off-putting and began finding himself a cup to make a coffee.
(Y/n) straightened up from the counter in an instant. She didn't want to be stooped over with her back and bum arched out and Nigel stood so close that their hips were touching. She tried to plaster a small smile across her face and took a step to the right to create an air of space between them.
"Hi," She nodded her head at him and reached over for the kettle when it boiled.
The sooner she made a drink and went back to her desk, the sooner she could be away from Nigel and have this awkward tension dissipate.
"So, how have you been?" He grinned down at her like she was giving him a gift rather than simply offering the kettle out towards him once she had filled her cup. And she didn't like the way he brushed his fingers against her hand and seemed to try and give her hand a squeeze like they were more than acquaintences, more than friends.
"Good, and you?" Ignoring him would be pointless and it would make her seem rude, that was the last thing (Y/n) wanted. Her only choice was to engage him in conversation.
"I was a little upset that you wouldn't return my messages, and very surprised when you blocked me."
His words stunned her.
For a moment (Y/n) wasn't sure what he was talking about and the cup in her hand unsteadily clinked back onto the counter in shock. Her jaw dropped and she stared over at Nigel with confusion and utter panic bubbling over in her eyes.
"Wh-" Whatever had been on the tip of (Y/n)'s tongue fizzled out when one overpowering thought came to mind.
Eddie.
Her husband. He had been close to enraged when he had looked through (Y/n)'s messages and noticed just how often Nigel tried to talk to her on a daily basis. It didn't matter that (Y/n) hardly ever replied to Nigel, it mattered that this person at work was clearly pursuing her and that made Eddie volatile.
He would do what he had to do to get the message across that (Y/n) wasn't interested and that Nigel couldn't keep doing this. He may be harmless, but he was a threat and Eddie didn't take kindly to threats.
Eddie must have blocked Nigel's contact on her phone. (Y/n) had been silly enough to believe that for the past three days while she had been off work, Nigel had relented. She thought he had stopped messaging her because she hadn't replied and he knew it was her time off work. She hadn't even thought to check through his messages or even see if his contact was still in her phone.
If Nigel's messages weren't getting through then he knew it was because she had blocked him and if that was the case, then it was Eddie's doing. (Y/n) wouldn't block Nigel out of kindness, she wouldn't want to cause friction at work and she thought it best to have people's numbers in case there was an emergency or anyone ever needed to swap shifts on short notice.
Not anymore. Eddie had clearly taken care of the messages and the issue of Nigel becoming too attached to (Y/n).
"Nigel, I… I've been busy, with family and getting things ready for my maternity leave. I don't have a lot of free time."
It was a meager excuse and they both knew it. They both knew that at some point if Eddie hadn't blocked her phone, (Y/n) would have checked her messages and either responded or ignored them. Either way, ignoring him implied she didn't want to talk to him.
But it seemed kinder to try and make up an excuse rather than tell Nigel the truth that he was getting too close and her husband didn't like it.
"You don't have time for friends?" The way he scoffed made (Y/n) wince, but his smile was off-putting.
His smile contradicted his words. He should be angry. Nigel should be annoyed and infuriated and call (Y/n) a rude, ignorant person and walk away from her. Except he was grinning like they were old friends having a joke with each other and he leaned closer as if he was going to nudge their elbows together or even risk trying to reach out and touch her.
There was nothing nice that came to (Y/n)'s mind to respond to that so she settled for nodding, mainly to herself, and taking her hot chocolate out of the break room.
She kept her steps quick when she heard Nigel rushing to put the milk back in the fridge so he could try and catch up to her. Well (Y/n) didn't want to continue with this awkward conversation. She wanted to go back to work and then go home.
She heard Nigel call her name just as she stepped out the break room and almost collided head first with Sue.
The elder woman cast (Y/n) an endearing smile as if (Y/n) was just the person she wanted to see. (Y/n) moved to cradle her cup in both hands, simultaneously warming her hands up as well as making sure she didn't spill any of the contents down either of them.
"Can we have a chat?" Sue's tone was calm and her smile was soothing, telling (Y/n) she wasn't in any kind of trouble.
Although being asked for a chat never seemed like a good thing, especially not where work was concerned.
(Y/n) nodded and followed Sue past the main floor where everyone was at their desks or wandering about the room in search of something. They headed to one of the meeting rooms at the back where they usually had their team meetings or held supervisions. And (Y/n) knew this was where people were brought to when there was an issue that needed to be discussed.
Had (Y/n) done something wrong? Was she in some kind of trouble? She hadn't been late or missed any shifts and she hadn't had any conflict or any problems with any of the calls she had taken on her shifts. She always did everything right by the book, she contacted the police when necessary, she reported fake calls to Sue and Josh and made a note of the numbers. She didn't take extra breaks or long lunches.
Her nerves started to get the better of her once they were in the room on their own and she noticed the blinds were closed, for privacy. Was that in case (Y/n) started crying or Sue had to reprimand her for something?
Her legs felt heavy when she sat down in one of the chairs and tried to sit up straight and hold herself together. Her hands began to tap on the clear glass table and her feet jittered against the floor. She didn't know where to look or what to do with herself.
"Is everything okay?" What she really wanted to ask was 'have I done something wrong' but it seemed a bit too pushy or forceful to ask that.
(Y/n) wasn't sure what to do when Sue leaned across the table and placed her hand on top of (Y/n)'s.
The action was soothing and the touch was almost as if Sue was about to give (Y/n) bad news, but the look on her face said otherwise. She patted (Y/n)'s hand and tilted her head to one side, smiling softly as her other hand started to fiddle with the beaded necklace hanging loose around her neck. Something Sue always wore almost like it was a part of her.
"I think I should be asking you that. I had Eddie on the phone this morning, honey he's worried about you."
Oh dear. That didn't sound good.
"He said you told him a colleague at work is starting to stalk you, but you've been too nervous to come and talk to me. Honey, you know you can trust me and Josh, if you're having trouble you can let us help."
Oh God, what was she supposed to say to that? (Y/n) could hardly deny it and make Eddie seem controlling or like he was acting out of character or trying to cause friction. But if she agreed and explained, then it was going to make things strenuous at work and cause friction between her and Nigel and probably turn a few heads.
Eddie had gone behind her back. He said he wouldn't. He said he wouldn't say anything as long as (Y/n) talked to Sue, and that was what she had been planning to do.
If he actually gave (Y/n) the time, she would have talked to Sue in another day or two and explained that she thought Nigel was being just a little too pushy with her. She would of asked for some advice and said she just wanted to make it known that she was uncomfortable.
That would have been enough. As long as either Sue or Josh knew about it, then they could keep an eye on things and if Nigel ever went too far then (Y/n) would have them to back her up.
Eddie doing this just made things worse because he made things sound more dramatic. He wanted something to be done but he either didn't realise or didn't care that this was going to cause issues within (Y/n)'s workplace.
"Can you tell me who it is?"
When Sue squeezed her hand, (Y/n) leaned forward and dropped her head onto her other hand. She could feel the twins wriggling around and coming to life and that, combined with the bile rising at the back of her throat was making her feel queasy.
She didn't want to be doing this. (Y/n) could feel tears welling up in her eyes and she sank her teeth down into her lower lip to stop herself from crying. She didn't need to cry, there was nothing wrong here, this wasn't as big a situation as Eddie had made it seem… was it?
"It- it's Nigel." She had to say something, Eddie had already set the ball in motion and (Y/n) couldn't stop it or take it back anymore.
She dragged her fingers through her hair and sat forward, clicking her spine into place and pressing her bump down against her thighs. Her eyes cast down to her stomach to give herself something to think about and focus on instead of the uneasy feeling washing over her and the panic welling up in her system.
"And what's he been doing?" There was nothing but understanding in Sue's voice and patience in her eyes. She made it feel like she had all the time in the world to talk to (Y/n).
"I… I had to block him, he was constantly messaging and calling me. He makes me uncomfortable when he gets too close on shift, he just, he won't leave me alone."
Was she making herself seem stupid? Had Eddie said anything to Sue about it? Had he made it seem more substantial than this or like Nigel had truly been harassing her? Was Sue going to tell her that this didn't meet any criteria and that (Y/n) would have to talk to Nigel herself about this?
"Okay, well we can change your shift pattern if you like. You're coming up to maternity leave, maybe if we lower your hours like we suggested before, we can put you on the morning shifts and have less stress until you're on leave. Nigel does a lot of afternoon and evening shifts, so this should stop you from clashing."
Why was she being so understanding?
(Y/n) found herself nodding before she really took in what Sue was saying. It did make sense. (Y/n) had talked to Sue and Josh when she found out she was pregnant, and then again when she knew it was twins because that meant more check ups and a possible earlier maternity leave.
They had both been understanding and they had all talked about (Y/n) lowering her hours the further along she got, maybe just by a couple of hours a week. Just so it was less stressful and easier on her. Doing that now meant (Y/n) would be less stressed, it would be easier for Chris and it would certainly stop Eddie from worrying about her.
(Y/n) would be better on the morning shifts, she could be home for Chris in the afternoon and evenings that way and if it stopped her from being on Nigel's shift then it was a winning situation all round. The added bonus was that if Nigel ever realised or asked what was going on, (Y/n) could chalk it all down to her pregnancy.
"Thank you, I- I didn't want to cause any problems,"
"Honey if he's upsetting you then that's not your fault. We're always here to help."
It didn't seem like (Y/n) had much of a choice in any of this, anyway. Eddie had set this in motion and (Y/n) couldn't disagree with him. Not when they both knew she felt better when she was at home and it would be a lot easier if she was home more often. Eddie couldn't be with her at work and that worried him, so this meant he had no more cause for concern.
(Y/n) didn't want Eddie worrying, he could get a bit controlling when he was nervous or wound up.
***
Swinging her bag on her shoulder, (Y/n) tilted her head to one side and tightened her hand around the handle.
She was ready to go home. The calls today had gone from bad to worse and (Y/n) was done. She was done with answering the calls where she couldn't help, she couldn't send help in time and hearing that static when the line went dead was crushing her heart to pieces. Home was the best place to be right now.
She made her way from her locker towards the corridor and began her descent. Sometimes working here felt like it was a maze with the calls and computers being right in the centre of that maze.
When she turned the next corner, a slither of dread crept down her spine and her upper lip curled in distaste when she stared ahead of her.
Nigel was coming on shift.
Why did it have to happen that he would come into work at the exact moment (Y/n) was leaving? Their shifts weren't exactly overlapping. For the past few days, (Y/n) had managed to leave and not bump into Nigel on her way out. Today clearly wasn't her lucky day.
She slowed down her pace when Nigel seemed to make his beeline towards her and instead of standing beside her, he chose to stand right in front of her. (Y/n) would have to either push him out the way or kindly wiggle beside him to get past and aim to leave the building. Great.
"Hey, I haven't seen you a lot lately, Maddie said you're getting ready for maternity leave."
He had his jacket slung over his shoulder like he thought he was in a sixties movie and his head inclined to the side while his other hand moved to his hip that cocked out to the side.
Considering the last time they spoke, he accused (Y/n) of blocking his messages- rightfully so- he seemed very chipper to see her. Another reason (Y/n) was uneasy around him. He didn't care that she was married, he didn't seem to care that she was pregnant, he just liked to be around her and push the boundaries as much as he could without crossing the line into out of order.
(Y/n) moved her hand to card her fingers through her hair and she nodded, mustering the strength to push this aside and get away.
"Yeah, I'll be off as of next month." It couldn't come soon enough. (Y/n) couldn't wait to be at home with Chris and then with her two girls when they were born.
The stress of kids was going to be far better compared to the stress of this job and having someone like Nigel lurking around every corner. And (Y/n) just knew that when she was on maternity leave, Eddie was going to be much happier too. With how loving and protective he was around her now, she knew he was going to be a sight to behold with their girls.
"Bit early, isn't it?" Nigel's words brought (Y/n) out of her thoughts and she glanced from him down to her stomach.
"Well, it's twins so less stress means no early labour." Her hand moved to brush against the side of her stomach with a fondness bubbling over in her eyes and causing a small smile to pull at her lips. Especially when she looked down at her shirt.
Not everyone wore the preferred uniform with the 9-1-1 logo in the corner to show that they were emergency dispatchers. It wasn't strictly necessary, but most people wore them. (Y/n) did, but at the moment nobody questioned or commented that she had been wearing Eddie's shirts.
It was roughly the same colour as the darker dispatch shirts, but instead of their 9-1-1 logo, it had the fire station logo in the corner. (Y/n) wore it because Eddie's clothes were bigger on her and her change of appearance and her expanding stomach were only temporary. Maddie thought it was cute, and whenever (Y/n) wore Eddie's clothes it drove him wild, so it was a win-win situation all round.
"We'll miss you round here. I'll have to stop by, see how you're doing."
(Y/n) took a hazardous step back when Nigel leaned closer and the smile slipped from her face. She was sure he was about to try and touch her stomach. (Y/n) wasn't a fan of people doing that. Eddie, sure, that was different. Sometimes Maddie asked if she could and again that was different because she was (Y/n)'s closest friend and she always asked.
But someone she didn't truly know and who she felt uneasy around, trying to reach over to touch her, that was unsettling.
She took another step back out of instinct when Nigel stepped closer and she couldn't help but cringe when he smile widened into an off-putting smirk. He advanced towards her until his hand was clamped around her upper arm and (Y/n) was almost pushed up against the wall.
She couldn't step back any further and let Nigel back her into a corner- or a wall- like that. She was heading home and he was clearly just arriving on shift. They needed to go in separate directions before this got misconstrued.
"I h- I have to go."
Tilting his head to the left, Eddie gave Chris a pointed look that silently told him not to get too much out the vending machine with the change he had just found by scouting through Eddie's back pocket.
He grinned over at his boy before he stepped around the corner. He thought (Y/n) would have been downstairs by now. He and Chris had come to pick her up from work since Chris wasn't at school today and had asked if they could go out for tea. The pair of them had waited downstairs for a few minutes before deciding to head up and find (Y/n).
Eddie didn't like what he saw.
He'd found his wife alright, but he found her with someone who was standing far too close to her, practically pinning her up against the wall. (Y/n) looked uncomfortable, it was written across her face and Eddie watched with seething anger as (Y/n) had to fling that man's hand off her arm and push to get past him.
But she stopped the moment her eyes locked onto Eddie. He could see her trembling and the look on her face told him everything. This was the guy that had been bothering her, and he was clearly doing it again.
"Are you okay?" Those were the first words that came out of Eddie's mouth and they took (Y/n) by surprise.
She was expecting him to ask who it was with her and what the Hell he thought he was doing. But she could see the way his eyes were raking her up and down, trying to make sure she was okay and check that nothing untoward had happened before he turned up.
(Y/n) wordlessly nodded, fiddling with her bag on her shoulder as she stumbled to hurry towards him. She wanted to go home.
Her hands reached out for Eddie's arm which she tried to reel into her chest so she could cling to him, but Eddie had other ideas. His free hand moved to her hip and he leaned over to press a chaste kiss to the side of her temple. He loved the way she pelted over to him with that look of need swirling in her eyes, although the panic written on her face angered him because this idiot had clearly worried her. He didn't like that.
"Chris is waiting for you." He ticked his head to the side, indicating to the end of the hall and (Y/n) figured if Chris wasn't stood there behind them that he had to be at the vending machine. That machine had a lot of sweet treats in; (Y/n) often stopped there when the twins made her peckish.
"But…" She wasn't sure she could find the proper words, so she tugged on Eddie's arm and glanced to the end of the corridor and back to make her point.
She wanted him to come with her. (Y/n) wanted to go home, and she wanted Eddie to follow her out. She knew her husband, she knew what he was like and how he would probably start a fight when her back was turned. (Y/n) didn't want that to happen.
"Go." He pressed another kiss to her temple and squeezed her hip before he moved his hand to her lower back and tried to guide her in that direction.
He wouldn't be far behind her.
(Y/n) didn't want to, she really didn't want to but when Eddie stepped away from her, she moved. It would be easier to go along with it and make sure Chris didn't walk round the corner and witness anything. She highly doubted Eddie would start a fight. He knew people could pass by at any moment. (Y/n) had told him Nigel was on the afternoon shifts so Eddie knew he was most likely just turning up to work.
If he came in with a black eye or a broken arm or hunched over in agony, people would suspect something was amiss. Eddie wouldn't cause a scene, he was too clever for that. But he was going to make sure that he got his point across.
Once (Y/n) was out of sight, Eddie walked down the corridor with an air of confidence that was clearly off putting to the other man. He stood in front of him with his chin aimed up and a confident smirk on his face.
"Let me guess… Nigel?" Eddie pointed at the man in front of him whose smile faded and his eyes narrowed in a look of sceptical confusion.
"Yeah, and you are…"
"The husband. And I won't be saying this again, stay away from my wife or I'll become your nightmare. Clear?"
Eddie couldn't count the times he had had this kind of conversation, or the people he had talked to about this. He had warned plenty of people away from (Y/n), a lot of whom hadn't listened on the first attempt and needed Eddie to come back and use some physical force to get the message through.
That was always fine by Eddie. He never minded having to use his fists and his army knowledge to get people to take him seriously. If they needed some persuasion to stop hassling (Y/n) and leave her alone, then that was what Eddie was prepared to do. No one messed with his wife, and he certainly wouldn't let Nigel upset her.
This was where she worked. This was the only place where Eddie couldn't keep track of her and protect her, and if a threat happened here then Eddie either needed to take care of that threat, or remove (Y/n) from the situation.
She was going on maternity leave in one month, that would certainly remove her from the situation for up to a year. A lot could happen in that time. Eddie could make sure Nigel wasn't going to be a problem anymore. Or he could easily persuade (Y/n) that staying home or finding a job to work from home would be a lot easier for her.
He had his methods, he would do whatever he had to in order to keep her and their family safe.
"(Y/n) never mentioned you." Nigel shook his head and folded his arms over his chest like he was trying to play cool and hold his nerve. He didn't look very convincing, and his words made Eddie smile.
He knew that. He knew (Y/n) wouldn't mention him. He knew because for one thing, Nigel wasn't her friend or someone she would open up to. (Y/n) didn't talk to a lot of people, and she certainly didn't talk to them about Eddie. And for another thing, (Y/n) wouldn't openly tell people how possessive Eddie could be, that was like ammunition to get creeps like Nigel away from her and it was reserved information for when she needed it the most.
"Hm, I bet she didn't. The last guy that started harassing my wife ran into a few difficulties after meeting me. (Y/n) was being kind to you; I'm not. Leave her alone or you'll be needing time off work to recover from a few broken bones."
The darkness pooling in Eddie's previously chocolate brown eyes was unhinged and it told Nigel that he wasn't lying or hyping up the truth to make himself seem fearful. Eddie was giving it to him straight, he was telling him exactly how this was going to go.
Eddie had broken a man's wrist, his nose and fractured his foot after he tried to put the moves on (Y/n). If anyone went as far as to touch her or do something inappropriate, Eddie would be even more creative than that. There was nothing he wouldn't do when it came to (Y/n).
"You- you can't do that-"
Nigel took a step back but Eddie only stepped closer with a sickening grin and expanding pupils that made his eyes look hollow and black.
"I can do whatever I like. For instance," Eddie moved swiftly before Nigel could blink or even comprehend that the situation was changing.
He grabbed Nigel by his left shoulder and clutched at his wrist with his other hand. He applied some pressure, pushing Nigel's upper body down while he twisted and gave a sharp tug on his arm until the other man was yelping and began to shake, trying his best to move at this compromising angle.
"If I pull, your shoulder dislocates from the socket. That's much easier to recover from than a broken arm, isn't it?" The condescending tone in Eddie's voice made Nigel's breathing quicken and Eddie was sure he heard him whisper 'you're sick' under his shallow breath.
It would be far too easy for Eddie to push and give a little pull on Nigel's arm and have that joint pop out of place with a successful click. One swift move and he would be dislocated. Eddie would enjoy that. He could easily pop it back into place afterwards and until it started to swell, no one would know or seemingly believe anything was wrong.
A dislocation was very easy to recover from, a few days of tender muscles and a sore joint and then it would be like a faded memory. Broken or fractured bones were far harder to recover from. Eddie was being kind here.
"So, are we clear?" Eddie jostled Nigel by the shoulder until he yelped and frantically nodded.
He didn't want a dislocated shoulder. He didn't want any broken bones or any bumps and bruises. He didn't want any trouble with Eddie, not when he could see that it would be far more anguish on his behalf than it would be worth. Eddie was unhinged. He was unstable and Nigel didn't want anything to do with him.
Eddie dropped Nigel's wrist, allowing his arm to swing down and he quickly brought his knee up until it bashed into Nigel's groin. The grunt that left his lips was enough to make Eddie smile and he gave the other man a rough shove until he was stumbling down the corridor in the direction of the call room. He could go and recover in the kitchen or the locker room. Eddie didn't care.
Eddie dusted his hands up and down his jeans as he turned in the opposite direction and rounded the corner.
When his eyes landed on his family, the usual, bright grin lit up his features and he headed over to them. (Y/n) was anxiously tapping her foot against the floor with her hands on Chris's shoulders and the eleven year old was leaning back into her with a packet of sweets in his hands that they were seemingly sharing between them.
"Alright, are we going for dinner?"
"Yeah!" Chris popped another sweet in his mouth before he turned and led them down towards the lift at the end of the hall.
(Y/n) looked between both her boys, but when she tried to look behind Eddie towards the corridor, she gasped. Eddie's hands moved to her shoulders, his chest pressed up into her back and he walked her forward, expertly cutting her off from even trying to look back at the idiot in the other hall.
"He's fine." The gritty tone to Eddie's voice made (Y/n)'s stomach jump and she nodded, praying it was true. She hadn't heard any screams or yells or punches being thrown so she guessed Eddie hadn't done any lasting damage or caused much trouble.
Thank God.
She reached a trembling hand up to hold onto his wrist and she gave a squeeze as they headed towards the lift.
"I don't want you around him anymore, I mean it." Eddie pressed his lips to the back of (Y/n)'s head before she tilted her head back onto his shoulder so she could stare up at him. The worry in her eyes made his chest tighten and had his heart going haywire. He didn't want her to worry.
That was the exact reason why he had just warned Nigel to stop playing games and to stay the Hell away from (Y/n). Eddie didn't want to have to use force to get his point across, he knew it made his wife anxious, but if that was the only way to protect her then that's what he had to do.
"Eddie, he won't-"
"I don't trust him. The whole point of changing shifts was to avoid him, yet here he is, trying to touch you. If I find him doing that again, I won't be merciful."
(Y/n) nodded and when the lift doors opened and they began walking inside after Chris, she moved her hands up. She deadlocked her hands around Eddie's wrists and shifted his hands from her shoulders to loop his arms around her neck instead. It made him lean his chest down against her back and he attached his lips to her temple while Chris pressed the button for the ground floor and cosied up into (Y/n)'s side.
This was their family, this was exactly what Eddie was trying to protect. He wouldn't stand for someone trying to get in the way and ruin what they had or frighten or touch up his wife.
Eddie had been kind today, but he had no problems being cruel if that was what it took.

Life with Eddie use to be everything you could ever dream of. Whether it be slow mornings getting ready together, sharing a shower and helping Chris get ready. Or an absolute hurricane ripping through your home whilst the three of you stumble over each other to get ready after a sleep in.
No matter the time of day, you loved whatever you were doing, as long as they were by your side.
And Eddie’s protectiveness use to be just another aspect of your relationship you loved, until you opened your eyes.
It use to be small, his anger.
An incessant colleague reaching out for tips and aid in a new project, you being a senior member meaning it wasn’t uncommon for people to reach out to you. You were one of the best workers at the company, well respected and loved as well as brilliant. And always willing to help someone in need.
He use to love that about you. Until it followed you home.
Chris was currently at a friends house, leaving the two of you to an inside date night, “Now on what planet would I ever sit and watch four movies with the title ‘Die Hard’. You sure as hell can’t die that many times.” Eddie shook his head as you refilled each of your respective glasses.
“Sure you can, just ask Chimney.” You gasped before swatting Eddies arm, “Be nice! And put on our show.” The murmuring voices of your favourite characters was more than enough to lull you into his arms, content washing over you. Your ringing phone however, was ready to disturb the peace Eddie had longed for all day.
“Let me just grab this.” His hand scooped your phone up before you could, “Just get it later.” His dismissive tone made you frown, “Give me my phone, please.” You leaned over to snatch it, walking into the hallway. Eddie couldn’t help but massage his temple, did you seriously chose a phone call over peace and quiet in his arms?
He hadn’t noticed how often you picked up your phone, until it interrupted him. It happened often. When the two of you were cooking together, soft music and ambience long forgotten. Almost falling asleep, cuddling, and out of the blue the world was falling apart without you. Eddie thought he could handle it, you were needed, that wasn’t your fault, right? But what he also couldn’t handle was the secretive nature.
Why did you always walk away? Were you hiding something?
And now you were coming home later, clanging into the house at 11, or 12. Sometimes even later. “Where were you?” Eddie stood by the door as you hung your jacket, “Jesus, you scared me E.” His arms were crossed, shoulders tense as you made your way to him, a smile too wide for his liking. “Work ran late, m’ sorry.” As you walked away, his hand caught onto your wrist.
“Ow, let go.” Eddies grip loosened as you retracted your arm, soothing it, “What is your problem?” You looked up to view a sweet smile, “Nothing, just worried about you. When you didn’t call, I got so scared. This world, it’s scary Y/n, you know that, especially during these times.”
Your eyes watered involuntarily at his saddened demeanour, “Oh Eddie, I’m so sorry, I should’ve called. That’s my fault, forgive me?” Your arms came around his neck, before trailing down to his chest, playing with his name tag. “I forgive you, I can also think of a way you can make it up to me.”
His smile was mischievous, and intentions impure. “Oh? And what would that be Mr Diaz?” His hand was heavy on your back and slithering lower by the second, “I think we have an appointment with a bed tonight.”
“I have work tomorrow, so do you.”
“Cmon, for me?” His eyes were pure evil, and you were more than happy to give in, even if you were tired. Really damn tired, but he wanted you, so you should give in right? You did give him a fright. “Take me away Diaz.”
If you’d noticed the signs earlier, maybe you could’ve gotten away. His jealousy, when it did rear its head, was an ugly shade of green.
A late night, again.
Eddie had been by the door for 10, sitting for 20, pacing the kitchen and stress-eating for another 10 before he finally settled into bed. Wide awake of course. The opening of his bedroom door caused him to stir. He watched as you slowly moved around, placing your stuff away, putting your phone on charge and then changing.
He sat upright as you yelped, “Eddie! You scared me, again! Why are you sitting in the dark?” His face was drained of warmth, skin cold to the touch. “Was waiting for you, again.” You frowned at his words, “Baby, you know I’m late these days. Better for you to go to sleep than wait up.” He shook his head, burying his head into your stomach as his body relaxed. Your hands raked through his hair gently, “I think you should consider working from home.”
Your hands stopped in their tracks, working from home? The last time you worked from home was during lockdown, and you’d driven yourself half mad. “Why is that?” Eddie glanced up at you, “You’re barely home, Chris misses you, I miss you. Don’t you want to be with us?” You took a deep breath in before smiling, “Of course I do. I- I’ll see what I can do baby.”
His hands quickly dragged you into bed, “Knew you’d understand amor.” Eddie rested his head in the crook of your neck, his hands slowly making their way underneath your shirt.
“Sweetie, I’m tried.”
“I missed you.” You relented, letting him continue. It seemed to be all you were doing these days, bending backwards and over to please him, literally.
The first time you noticed his behaviour was also when you realised you needed space. Not that he’d give it to you. A new coworker, Harry, had invited not only yourself, but your friend Aleya and Jack out to lunch.
He was a nice guy, very eager to learn and never scared by a little constructive criticism. The only problem was probably his overbearing cologne, very pungent? Intense?
You’d also been driven to work that day, courtesy of your boyfriend. You were working shorter days now, completing about an hour or two of work at home now. It had taken some adjusting, after a few forgetful days and about a million texts from Carla with an impatient Chris at home waiting for you.
You spotted Eddies truck pull up as you wrapped up your conversation with the your three lunch goers, “And that’s me, I’ll see you guys on Monday. Thank you so much for lunch!” You reached out to Aleya for a side hug, the same for Jack and a normal hug for Harry. “Tell Eddie there’ll be a fire at my house later tonight, and he better bring Evan!” Jack joked as you waved him off.
Jack may or may not have a huge crush on Evan.
You hopped in, quickly chucking your purse and files into the back seat before kissing Eddie on the cheek. “Hi! How was Chris’s school?” Eddie shrugged his shoulders, “Fine.” Your eyebrows furrowed at his shortness, “Something wrong?” He turned onto the highway, knuckles tightly gripping the wheel, “You smell like him.”
“Like who? Harry?”
“That his name?”
You rolled your eyes, “No, it’s actually his father’s, middle name Jesus. Care for some wine Eddie?” Not once, had Eddie ever been physical. But raising his voice? Oh that was fair game.
“You think you’re funny huh? Having lunch with other guys and taking the piss outta me?”
“Nothing happened baby, it was lunch. He’s new and trying to fit in and I’m being nice. There’s nothing to worry about I swear.” The silence permeated in the truck, causing the hair on your arms to raise. You hated the silent treatment wholeheartedly.
“Whatever.”
His change in demeanour could flip like a switch, you always assumed it was him putting up a front. But when Eddie showed up the next day, flowers in hand and looking his sharpest, you were forced to reevaluate. “God I wish my boyfriend was that sweet.” Your project partner whispered as you sighed, “That’s Eddie.”
Even your boss wanted you to go with him, “Take the day off sweetie, you deserve it.” And with a pat on the back and a million swooning interns drooling over Eddie, you were sent on your way.
“I got these for you Y/n/n.” Your favourite flowers, arranged perfectly and smelling divine. Your hands wrapped around the bouquet, “Thank you Eddie, they’re perfect.” His smile caused your heart to race, he looked amazing. The Eddie with you that day was incredible.
His infectious laughter, perfect smile and the sweet nothings he whispered into your ear. That, was the Eddie Diaz you knew and loved. A gentleman, who had eyes for only you. Which is why you couldn’t help but wonder, what made him change? How was it possible to go from absolutely furious and unnecessarily jealous to an angel?
You didn’t want to know, and you didn’t want to stay around long enough to find out.
Maybe it was the date, or the fact that you felt as if he deserved an explanation face to face. Either way, if you’d known better, you would have made it away.
“Eddie, we have to talk.” The two of you were currently sitting on the couch, favourite show playing in the background. Eddie hummed along, a slight acknowledgment to your words. “It’s, about us.” Eddie turned the volume down, your sentence piquing his interest.
“What’s wrong?”
“I think, we should break up.”
And with six words, Eddies entire world came crashing down in front of him. What on earth were you talking about? “What did you say?” The smile on Eddies face was anything but sweet or reassuring, a bad attempt at keeping his composure. “You’ve been acting, odd, to say the least.” You stood from the couch as he followed in pursuit, all the way to the kitchen.
“I feel like, all that we’re doing lately is either fighting or sleeping. Every time I come home, you have something to say. Whether it’s about my later nights, about who I was with or what I’m doing on the phone. It’s like I have no privacy at all. I cannot keep a single thing to myself. And if I try to? You blow up at me. I mean last week for example, I tried my hardest to not argue with you by walking away. And all you did was follow me around the house, it drove me crazy. Showing up to my workspace when I tell you I can get more done without random lunch dates. I’m a grown adult but you treat me like a child. And if I stand up for myself I’m cheating. It makes no sense at all Eddie. And I tried to make it work, but I feel like you’re controlling me. I even reduced my hours, because you asked. I moved in even when I wasn’t ready, because you asked. I need a break.” You took a deep breath after your monologue, needing a second.
Turning towards Eddie, he stared straight at you. “I had no idea you felt that way baby. I’m so sorry, I never meant to do any of it. I love you so much, I can’t help but worry. After everything we’ve been through with Shannon,” And there it was, the guilt. It was blinding, clawing its way through you. Shannon. He’d already lost someone he loved, and Chris lost his mother. No wonder he was always to protective over you.
“Hey, I’m not leaving like Shannon okay? What happened was a tragic accident, and I promise nothing like that is going to happen again Eddie.” You immediately engulfed in a hug, his head resting against yours, “I don’t want to loose you, I don’t want Chris to loose you.” Eddie muttered repeatedly as you closed your eyes.
Chris walked into the room, thirsty, tired and curious, “Is something wrong?” You immediately detached yourself from Eddie, wiping away your tears, “Nothings wrong sweetie, did you need something?” He nodded before turning around and walking to his room, “We’ll talk later yeah?” Eddie whispered into your ear before moving ahead.
Sniffles came from underneath Christopher’s blanket, “You alright buddy?” Eddie asked, patting his hair down, “Water.” You watched as Eddie swiftly made his way to the kitchen whilst you sat down, “You need anything else?” Chris’s hand slowly lowered the blanket before smiling your way, “No thanks mum.”
And as quickly as he spoke, he turned over to sleep again. Your eyes were probably protruding out of your head, shock filling your senses. “Mum?” The word sounded foreign on your lips, but apparently comfortable enough on Chris’s.
“He called you mum.” Eddies voice was low, most likely as astounded as you based on the look on his face. You got up slowly, aware of the sleeping boy. You couldn’t help but smile, and kiss his forehead before making your way to Eddie. “I can’t believe it.” Eddies hand came up to wipe away the stray tears before pulling you in and kissing your forehead, “I can.”
“You’re apart of this family baby, always have been.” His words seeped in as he guided you to your bed, whilst you were stuck on autopilot. Chris viewed you as a parent to him, that’s how common you were in his life now, a constant for him to fall back on. He loved you, almost as much as you loved him. Your words weren’t forgotten just swirling in your head, how the hell could you ask for a break now? With this new huge responsibility?
Eddie knew, of course he knew. He was the one encouraging Chris to call you by your new name. Because if there’s one thing Eddie knew he needed, besides Chris?
It’s you, and he’d do anything to make you stay.

9-1-1 AU: Demon Buck corrupts priest Eddie. [x]
"Let him go," Eddie demands, simmering with rage. "And why would I do that?" The voice is Buck’s, except it’s twisted, fractured somehow, crackling with a malice that sets Eddie’s nerves on fire. "He’s such a delicious vessel. So much pain. So much fear. So...much." The demon chuckles, low and menacing. "Do you have any idea what he thinks about when he’s alone at night?" Eddie doesn't dignify that with a response. He knows where this is going, and he refuses to have the conversation. Not now, not when Buck is trapped in his own body, fighting for control. "He’s terrified, you know," the demon taunts, leaning closer, as if to share a secret. "You should hear the way he cries out for you in his nightmares. It’s...intoxicating." "Shut up!" Eddie’s voice cracks, anger laced with desperation. He needs to do something—anything—to make sure this thing doesn't harm Buck. "Oh, it gets better." The demon smirks, relishing the torment he’s causing. "Buck’s been praying. But not to God. No, no...he’s been praying to you," the demon says, voice slick with oily delight. "He’s been begging you to save him, Eddie. Isn’t that tragic?" Eddie swears he can feel his heart crater. Buck has always put entirely too much faith in him. "Take me," he says, voice trembling with conviction. "Ruin me. But not Buck," he pleads. "I'll do anything. Just let me save him." "Nothing sweeter than a holy man on his knees for me," the demon murmurs. A dark smile spreads like smoke across Buck's face, and he watches as Eddie falls.

I need to be here (with you in darkness of your mind)
buddie / G / 3255 words
“Do you feel it?” Eddie takes deep breaths, trying to make his breath way notable for Buck to feel it. “My chest is moving. I’m breathing,” then something hits Eddie. One little thing about Buck’s coma his friend told him being shy admitting it. Eddie never felt so happy to know he never was in Buck’s coma dream. “I’m here. With you. In the real world.” or Buck has a breakdown during the night on the first year anniversary of his death. Eddie helps him deal with it.

Buddietommy - alone, finally
The house is quiet. No rowdy teenagers. No rowdy off-duty firefighters either. Just them and their bed and three days to spend together, alone, finally.
Tommy has been looking forward to this for weeks.
He's the first one awake, which isn't out of the ordinary, so he goes through his regular morning routine - making sure his boys are tucked in, brushing his teeth, starting the coffee maker. Normally he would start breakfast, but they'd decided to treat themselves to brunch at the café down the street for once.
Quietly, he mills about the house, tidying the shoe rack and dusting the ceiling fan and finding anything to keep himself occupied while he waits. He's excited, almost giddy at the thought of getting to have his boys all to himself. He loves their kids and their whole family of course, but getting to focus all of his attention on Evan and Eddie is a novelty they don't often get.
The smell of fresh coffee eventually pulls his boys out of bed, Eddie silent as he sips gratefully, and Evan plastered against Tommy's back where he stands wiping down the kitchen counters. They'll need to get ready to leave in the next two hours, but that leaves plenty of time to wake slowly and just be.
And when they fall into bed late that night, they take their time, savoring every moment.
Send me a number and I’ll write a micro story using the word or phrase

Dark! Evan Buckley Masterlist
Summary: (Y/n) knows how protective Evan is around her and their daughter and she knows he worries. But when their daughter isn't well, Evan isn't too happy to learn they've gone to the hospital. Without him.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"No! I w- I want daddy."
(Y/n) sighed and let her head drop down while her hands clamped down on her hips.
Of course she did.
Of course Tilly wanted Evan; she always did when she wasn't well. If she was sick she clung to Evan like he was her lifeline, her saviour. And right now, the toddler really wasn't well. She had been throwing up throughout the night and now she had a cough to rival all coughs. She couldn't speak without croaking and gasping and her nose and cheeks had turned a very dark shade of red.
(Y/n) tried one last time to reach out for her daughter, but she pursed her lips when Tilly shook her head. She curled up in the middle of her parent's bed, pulling on the fresh pile of clothes on the end of the bed that Evan had got ready for when he came out the shower.
The toddler pulled on the button up shirt until it was draped around her like a blanket and she nuzzled into the material. Something that she had gotten from (Y/n) who loved to wear Evan's clothes, especially when they kept his scent and aftershave. She hoped Tilly wouldn't cough or sneeze on the shirt or it would have to go back in the wash.
"Did someone call me?" Evan's voice rung through the air and (Y/n) twisted to look over her shoulder.
She watched him walk into their room, a towel tied around his waist and one hand knotted in his damp curls. The way he squinted one eye with a lopsided smile made (Y/n)'s heart jump.
She pointed to the bundle hidden beneath his shirt, watching the way Evan's expression softened when he tried to spot their daughter.
He hummed quietly and reached out for his boxers from the bed and started to get changed. His eyes stayed focused on Tilly, waiting to see if she would move and uncover herself because she knew he was in the room. But she stayed bundled up as Evan buttoned up his trousers and looped his belt tight.
"I think that's mine, princess." He pressed his knees into the edge of the bed and planted one hand down near Tilly's head.
He leaned his weight on his left hand while his right hand reached out for his shirt. And he lifted it up to reveal his little girl, huddled up in a ball in the middle of the bed. She tried to keep hold of his shirt but when he tugged it free from her, a loud shriek left her lips, followed by a croaky wail.
"She wants you," (Y/n) murmured and squeezed Evan's arm as she moved to walk past him. She pressed her lips to his shoulder before she tried to walk out the room. She could start breakfast if Evan could sort Tilly for now; they both knew she would only do as he told her when she was in this mood.
(Y/n) felt Evan's hand weave around to squeeze her hip and he ducked his head down to attach his lips to her neck. He pressed a searing kiss to her neck and squeezed her hip again before he let go and watched her head out the room.
Once she was gone, Evan slid his shirt onto his shoulders but he didn't button it up yet.
He held his arms out in her direction and tilted his head to one side, waiting while Tilly looked at him as if she didn't know what he was doing.
"I thought you wanted me?" That was all it took for Tilly to shuffle over and wrap her arms around his neck. She burrowed her face into his bare chest and jumped until Evan got the hint and scooped her up.
He settled her in the middle of his chest and glided one hand up and down her back while he leaned his cheek on top of her head.
With his lips pressed to the top of Tilly's head, Evan turned around and slowly made his way out of the room. It was going to be hard for Evan to go to work today when Tilly was clinging to him like this. He didn't like leaving her when she wasn't well.
Once he headed downstairs, Evan made his way into the kitchen with his lips pressing continuous kisses against Tilly's head. It seemed to be doing the trick in calming her down but it was also making Evan regret having to go to work. His little girl wasn't well, she needed him.
He smiled into the top of her head when he looked over at (Y/n) and watched her mill about the kitchen like she didn't know they were standing behind her.
Before the girls, Evan's whole life had been centred around the station and his work. Work had been his main driving force, the thing that gave him purpose and the station gave him a family. Meeting (Y/n) had changed those dynamics. Evan had an extended family; a family that was his and that depended on him. A family he came home to after work and didn't have to go into dire situations to be around them.
Evan stopped being desperate to go to work or to prove himself and put himself at risk. He became desperate to come home and be with his girls.
He hadn't noticed what (Y/n) had been wearing when he came out the shower, but as he walked over to her, he took in (Y/n)'s attire. She was wearing leggings and a button up top with the top buttons undone, giving him a great view.
Sometimes it was strange to look at (Y/n) and not see her wearing his clothes. When she was pregnant, Evan had been so used to seeing her wander around in his stuff and it drove him wild. Technically just looking at (Y/n) when she was pregnant made Evan insane.
God knows he loved Tilly and that she and (Y/n) were his world, but he was already aching to have another kid.
"Okay?" He curved his free arm around her waist and kissed the back of her head while (Y/n) stopped making them all a drink so she could lean her head back on his shoulder.
"Course." (Y/n) leaned up so she could kiss the junction at the top of his neck just beneath his jaw. She knew by the shiver she felt coursing through his skin that Evan was going to have a hard time getting to work today.
Her hand moved to pat his chest while she turned around so she was facing him. She kissed his neck again and darted her eyes down to Tilly who was snuffling, but at least she was breathing a bit better. And (Y/n) smiled into his neck when she felt Evan pressing down into her and his hand left her hip so he could reach up into the cupboard above them.
He grabbed the Calpol and the thermometer, smothering a grin when he felt (Y/n) kissing his neck and nipping at his skin.
She looked down at Tilly again before she turned around to finish making them each a drink.
It was endearing to see how attached Tilly was to Evan. It had been that way since (Y/n) found out she was pregnant. Evan had been glued to (Y/n)'s hip and had been there every step of the way, and when Tilly was born, that was it. She was the apple of his eye.
Whenever she cried, Evan was there cuddling her and calming her down. When she was sick, like now, Evan would give her medicine and hold her as she cried, he would let her sleep on his chest all night if it would make her feel better. He had all the time and the patience in the world for both his girls and it made Tilly attached to his hip. There was no way (Y/n) could feel jealous or pushed out when Evan was just the same with her.
She always knew if Tilly wasn't well she would run to Evan, that was the way it always was and (Y/n) was fine with that. Because when Evan was at work, (Y/n) was the parent. He worked random shifts, sometimes nights and quite a lot of days, so (Y/n) had Tilly to herself during those times. It was only natural and fair that when Evan was home, Tilly was attached to him.
When she was finished making their drinks, (Y/n) looked back at Tilly who was still snuffling and breathing heavy, but at least she was calm. (Y/n) leaned across to kiss her daughter's temple and she leaned against Evan's arm as if he were propping her up so she could cosy up into them both and smile at their poorly girl.
But her heart jumped in her throat when Evan's free hand reached out to hold her chin and he tilted her head up in his direction. It made him look seven foot tall with the way he nudged her head back and how he stared down at her with those dark blue eyes.
"Don't I get one?" The possessive tone in his voice made (Y/n)'s knees practically give way and she held her breath when Evan's thumb brushed across her lower lip.
She waited patiently for him to swoop down and steal a kiss he so clearly wanted from her. His lips were surprisingly warm but the force behind them was blinding and (Y/n) felt her head wobble when Evan eventually let go of her chin and released her bruised lips from his touch.
She rolled her eyes and bit back a smile when she felt Evan's hand against her bum as she grabbed the drinks and walked over to the table.
"Okay princess, let's take a look at you, hm?" Evan looked down at Tilly who was strangely quiet and it made him wonder if his little girl had finally started to nod back off to sleep. But when he looked down at her, he saw her eyes were barely open and she was biting her thumb.
He followed after (Y/n) and sat down at the kitchen table beside the window. He leaned back, adjusting Tilly on his lap so she was sat down rather than huddled up like a baby hedgehog against his chest.
With everything beside him on the table, Evan kept one arm around Tilly's waist and moved his other hand to feel her back and then her chest. She was warm, but she wasn't hot to the touch. Although her cheeks were flushed and she was lethargic.
Tilly was only going to nursery three days a week, but at this rate she wouldn't be going in tomorrow or the day after.
"Let's check your temperature." He grabbed the thermometer and gently pressed it into Tilly's ear.
Evan could see (Y/n) looking at him out the corner of her eye as she sat opposite him and Tilly at the table and munched on some toast. He could tell what was running through her mind. She was worried if their girl had a temperature; and she was slightly annoyed that Tilly wasn't making a fuss.
The little girl would throw a fit if (Y/n) checked her temperature or gave her medicine, but when it was Evan, she was as sweet as butter. (Y/n) guessed it was because although Evan was as sweet as ever with his girl, he could also be stern and his word was final. Tilly would never argue with Evan.
"Thirty-nine point four, she's got a fever."
Evan kissed the top of Tilly's head while the little girl nuzzled her face into his sternum and held one hand up so she could bite down on her thumb.
He gently batted her hand out the way so he could give her some medicine, watching with a smirk as his little girl took the medicine without grumbling. Although she did cough afterwards. But when she didn't raspberry it back at him, Evan took it as a win while (Y/n) rolled her eyes.
"Will you eat something before I go to work?" He murmured against Tilly's head and dragged the plate of toast across that (Y/n) had made for them. He took a piece and had a few bites while Tilly tilted her head back to look up at him.
"You stay… stay with me?" Tilly croaked and gave him her best puppy dog eyes, but when he said no, a gutural whine left her lips and she started to fidget in his arms.
"Princess, I have to go to work."
Evan could feel his heart breaking in his chest as he snuggled her closer to his chest and pecked her temple. He only had another ten minutes before he would have to kiss them goodbye and head off to be on time for work. He didn't like leaving either of them when they were ill. The first week going back to work after Tilly was born had been the hardest week of his life.
From the moment Evan looked at his girl, he never wanted to leave her sight again. He wanted to hold her and be with her every moment of the day, especially when she wasn't well. It was the same feeling he had whenever he had to go to work and leave (Y/n). He hated it. He hated not having them by his side.
"Daddy," The little whining tone in her voice continued to break his heart, but not his resolve. He couldn't call in sick at such short notice, he knew (Y/n) would persuade him otherwise. She was going to be here, there was no point Evan calling in sick and staying home too when (Y/n) was already here.
"It's not for long, baby girl. I'll be home for bath time, okay?" Today was one of the days where Evan was glad not to be doing a full twelve hour shift.
He would be home in time to give Tilly a bath and have tea before settling her down for bed. And he had a feeling that if she still felt this unwell, she would be staying in his and (Y/n)'s bed.
Tilly let out a little whine, but she didn't argue and when Evan handed her a piece of toast, she tried to munch on it to make him happy.
Evan reached out for the cup of coffee (Y/n) pushed his way and downed half of it in one go to try and wake himself up a bit more. He looked over at (Y/n) and nudged his foot against her thigh to catch her gaze.
"Call me later, so I know you're both okay."
(Y/n) nodded and smiled around the rim of her cup. She knew the drill, it had been the same when she had been pregnant and if she wasn't feeling well. She would ring Evan once, sometimes twice while he was on shift so he knew she felt okay and everything was alright. She had to; he was unnerving when he was panicking.
During the first few months when Evan went to work and (Y/n) was home with Tilly, she used to text him and send him pictures because she knew that again, Evan worried about leaving them. His line of work made him see strange, bad and frightening things and it increased his worry that while he was away, something bad like that might happen to his girls back home.
It was a good job (Y/n) still worked from home.
She switched to working from home when she became pregnant. The plan had always been to go back to the office once her maternity leave was over and get Tilly in daycare. That never seemed to happen.
Why have the stress of putting Tilly in daycare with strangers if she could be home with (Y/n)? Why go out to work if her boss was fine with her working from home and simply going into the office every other week for a catch up or for supervision?
The plan changed again, (Y/n) was supposed to be going back to work at the office once Tilly went into nursery full time, since she was only at nursery three times a week so far.
Although (Y/n) couldn't really see that happening, at least not for long. Not when Evan was broody and they were starting to try for another baby. And with the way he clung to her and worshipped her body when she was pregnant- not to mention the sight of him with a baby in his arms- (Y/n) couldn't object.
"You gonna have a movie day with mummy?" Evan held Tilly's beaker out to her once she finished a small piece of toast. It wasn't much, but it was something and he would rather her keep hydrated than try and eat and then be sick.
He smiled when Tilly hummed and looked over at (Y/n).
Evan leaned his head on his hand while his other hand ran up and down Tilly's chest and held her into him so he could cuddle her for a bit longer. His eyes darted between both his girls while he smiled. At least with (Y/n) working from home, neither of them had to take sick days or swap shifts to be home with Tilly when she wasn't well like this.
Evan liked both girls being at home, he could keep an eye on them that way and he knew they were both safe and fine as long as they were here.
***
A groan tumbled past Evan's lips and he tilted his head forward, straining his neck as he tried to click it back into place. He may have over-exherted himself carrying three separate people out the building and his back was starting to ache.
He shed his jacket and helmet and stuffed them in the compartment of the truck before he climbed up into the truck. He was glad to be the first one in the truck. He picked a seat behind the driver's seat and plonked down with his head tilted back and his back slouched down as his knees parted to the sides.
He only had a few more hours of his shift left. Not long, and he could go home to be with his girls and check on Tilly.
She had been playing on his mind this morning, he could see hear the way she screamed when he had to leave. He could feel her short nails scratching into his arms and see her trembling form in front of him as she cried, begging him not to go to work.
He could see the tears streaming down her face as she sniffled and whimpered, stretching her arms for him when he left. And he could see the tiredness in (Y/n)'s eyes that followed him even after he shut the door.
He wanted to go home.
Rolling his lips into a thin line, Evan felt a light go off in his head and he dug his hand around in his pocket until he found his phone.
He didn't have to worry about the girls and wonder if they were okay, he could just check on them from right here. Evan scrolled through the apps on his phone while he felt the truck rumbling and the sound of metal slamming from the rest of the team putting their equipment and helmets back.
It didn't take long to scroll through and find the camera app on his phone. They had a few security cameras in the house and Evan had them all connected to his phone, they'd had them since they moved into the house when they found out they were expecting Tilly.
Evan briefly lifted his head and nodded at Eddie when he climbed in the truck and sat opposite him, followed swiftly by Chimney and the new probie, Adam. He almost wondered where Hen was until he realised they had come on this call out with the ambulance; she would be driving it back to the station.
Evan flicked onto the upstairs camera while he dragged his belt round and sat up a bit straighter so his knees weren't pushing across into Eddie's space.
When he looked back down at the camera as Bobby revved up the engine, his head tilted to one side. So the girls weren't upstairs. His thumbs scrolled across to the downstairs camera, but he didn't see them in there either. The tv wasn't on. Tilly wasn't laid on the sofa or bundled up under a mountain of covers and pillows. She wasn't playing with her toys in the back room.
It didn't look like they were in the kitchen either. There wasn't a camera set up in the kitchen but the one in the dining room had a small glimpse into the kitchen. It looked empty.
The whole house looked empty; Evan couldn't see any movement in any of the cameras.
His brows furrowed and he looked over the cameras again while the truck turned a sharp corner and had him jostling from left to right.
Where had they gone to?
He clicked off the app, about to send (Y/n) a text when a thought made him switch to the location app he had at the back of the phone. Maybe (Y/n) had taken Tilly for a walk to give her some fresh air. Maybe they had gone down to the shops to get some more medicine; Tilly had a bad chest and throat, ice pops would be a good thing to have right now.
A shiver crawled down Evan's spine and he sat up straighter in his seat when he looked at the location on (Y/n)'s phone. What was going on?
Why was she at the hospital?
Dread dwelled in his stomach and he dropped his phone on the seat beside him while he turned to lean over the seat and look behind him. He patted his hand down on Bobby's shoulder to gain his attention while he glanced around to see whereabouts they were.
"Can you take a detour?"
"Where to?" Bobby glanced over his shoulder for a brief moment, but he didn't like the dark look he was faced with when he looked at Evan.
"Tilly's in the ER." His voice was gritty with a razor sharp edge, but it was his expression that had everyone on edge. His expression was one to be matched with a look of thunder and the way his lips curled into a grimace and his hands deadlocked into fists on his lap made Evan one to be rivalled with.
"Sure."
"Did (Y/n) message you?" The quiet tone in Eddie's voice seemed to take the edge off the atmosphere in the truck and he leaned over to look across at Evan.
He knew what it was like to have a child in the emergency room, he'd had his fair share of taking Chris to the hospital over the years. Or have Shannon or his abuela call him and say something had happened or Chris had gained yet another infection. He knew how stressful and panicking it could be and he could see the anger written across Evan's face.
"Yeah." He muttered, unable to lift his eyes from his hands that were clasped into fists in his lap.
That was the only explanation. (Y/n) had been fine this morning when he went to work and unless she'd had some kind of accident, then it was no big coincidence that (Y/n)'s phone location said she was at the hospital and Tilly wasn't well. Those two dots had to be connected. Something had to be wrong with their girl for (Y/n) to be there and their home to be empty.
Why didn't she call him?
Evan had his phone on him. He told (Y/n) to check in with him throughout the day and that meant telling him if their daughter had gotten worse. Taking her to the hospital classed as getting worse and Evan should have been there when (Y/n) took her. Not working obliviously at work while their girl was unwell.
His hands started to jitter up and down on his lap and his feet ruthlessly tapped and bashed into the metal floor of the truck as they headed towards a new destination.
"Alright Buck, let us know if you need anything." Bobby leaned across the seats to pat Evan's back when he flung his belt off and moved to get out the truck.
But not before he felt Eddie and Chimney reaching out for his arm and tell him to message them as soon as he had any news. Tilly was like a niece to them both and they all would want to know how she was getting on and what the problem was.
He stuffed his phone in his back pocket and jogged across the road towards the emergency room entrance.
How long had his girls been here? Would they be with a doctor by now? Was Evan going to be able to find them? He might have to charm the receptionist to find out where his girls were and which department they had been sent to if they had been here a while. At least he had priority, he was Tilly's dad, they had to tell him where his daughter was, if in fact she was still here.
Evan's eyes darted around when he walked into the emergency room. There were quite a few people in here today, but then again, it was mid-afternoon. The emergency room was packed in the afternoon and later on at night, the mornings and Sundays seemed to be the quietest times.
He avoided the queue at the reception desk and looked around, peering around the right corner to see if either of his girls were sat in there. He didn't spot them.
His fingers twitched at his sides and he could feel a desperation crawling throughout his system like ants scurrying beneath his skin.
It felt like his lungs were starting to shrivel up and take away his ability to breathe. Right until he took a few steps into the waiting area and looked to the far left.
The play area.
There was a small, sectioned off little corner with small plastic chairs and a table in the middle with an abacus for children to play and a few little toys scattered around.
There they were. Both his girls were sat right next to the children's corner, beneath the tv that was playing a kid's channel with a Disney show on in the background. That was why (Y/n) had chosen those seats, so she could be near the tv as a source of distraction for Tilly.
"It's okay," (Y/n) murmured softly and began again to brush her free hand across Tilly's temple that was dripping with sweat and flushed hot to the touch. She tried swaying from left to right while her daughter coughed and mewled in her arms, clearly distraught and upset.
But when she lifted her head, a look of fear flashed across (Y/n)'s face and panic lit up her eyes.
She could feel the unease crawling over her body and sending her head reeling like she had been hit with a blunt object.
He was here. How did Evan know they were here? She hadn't managed to get hold of him yet.
But there he was. Her husband. Aiming towards her with such a manic look on his face that (Y/n) hardly recognised him. He had rabid, dark eyes that were boring into (Y/n) like he was trying to see through her and reach her soul. His upper lip was curled up into a snarling look, he had a raised brow and his cheekbones were prominent as his features turned tense. It made the muscles in front of his ears pop out when he clenched and grated his jaw from left to right.
(Y/n) hated that his look was aimed at her. She hated whenever Evan got annoyed or upset with her, but to see him look at her like that made her want to cry. She knew it was going to take a miracle to calm him down from this.
"Evan…" She could barely find her voice when he stormed over to her and when she stared up at him, (Y/n) couldn't find any words at all. She could barely look up at him without feeling like she was melting into a puddle beneath his stern gaze.
With Evan stood up and being as tall as he was, it made him tower over her in the waiting room chair and the lighting seemed to cast a very ominus halo around him and cast dark shadows across his face. His shoulders were hunched up and the way he ticked his head to the side as he stared at her made (Y/n) wince.
She could see the way his eyes flitted from her to look at their daughter.
Tilly looked drowsy, she seemed half-conscious and that sent ripples of fear rushing through Evan. He didn't like how drowsy and lethargic she seemed, but his heart burst in his chest when Tilly groggily tilted her head back into (Y/n)'s chest and finally noticed who was stood in front of them.
She didn't say anything which broke Evan's heart all over again. It didn't matter whether he had been on a long shift at work or had just popped out to the shops. Whenever he came home, Tilly greeted him as if she hadn't seen him in weeks.
But her small arms stretched out in his direction and she made grabbing fists at him. And the tiny whimper and the way she mewled up at him showed how desperate she was to be back in Evan's arms now he was here.
(Y/n) stayed quiet and dropped her shoulders when Evan leaned over her and scooped their daughter from her arms. She was used to Evan taking Tilly from her, especially when their daughter wasn't well. Their daughter was like Evan's shadow. Whenever Evan came home, he was always reaching out to take her from (Y/n) and have a cuddle, and when she was sick Tilly would cling to him.
"Ooh baby," He cooed quietly when Tilly whimpered into his chest. He bounced her up and down in his arms, much like he had done this morning and he kissed her temple that was hot to the touch.
Evan could feel how bad Tilly's breathing was, she was croaking and gasping like her lungs were stuffed with cotton wool and she was running a higher temperature than she had this morning. She was on the verge of a fever.
But when he felt (Y/n)'s hand timidly gripping his arm and he watched the way she pointed to Tilly's back. His brows furrowed in confusion and he tucked his chin into Tilly's shoulder so he could hook his finger in the back of her shirt and peek at her back to see what (Y/n) was trying to show him.
His blood ran cold when he noticed there was a rash on her back. Little spots and bumps that were hot to the touch and when Evan leaned back and tried to check Tilly's chest, he noticed it was there too.
"Why didn't you call me?" His voice was laced with poison and so low that it didn't sound like him to (Y/n)'s ears.
Her eyes followed him as he sat down in the seat beside her and sat Tilly down on his lap with his arms bound around her chest. (Y/n) sank her teeth into her lower lip and leaned to the left as if she were treading her toes in the water, testing Evan's attitude and anger towards her. She tried her luck with curling her hands around his bicep and leaning close until she could merge her lips with his shoulder as if she were trying to soften him up.
"I called the doctor, a-and he said to come straight here. Then I didn't have a signal… Evan we've been here five minutes, I swear."
Tears welled up in (Y/n)'s eyes as she squeezed his arm and spoke, muffled into his arm. She could feel the way he bristled but the way he looked down at her showed he wasn't getting any angrier which was a good sign. (Y/n) hated him being upset with her. She knew that when she and Tilly were concerned, Evan had a very dark, possessive streak.
Both girls were his world and if they were upset or unwell or in any sense of danger, Evan's heckles were raised and his temper grew short.
(Y/n) didn't have a chance to call Evan.
When Tilly started to croak and her breathing became ragged and desperate, (Y/n) called the doctor straight away. She explained the symptoms, he heard Tilly's gasping voice as she tried to speak and he told them to get straight down to the emergency room. But by the time (Y/n) got here, she realised she hadn't called or checked in with Evan about this.
And the signal was non-existent in here. She couldn't even send him a message, let alone try and ring him and the most she had been waiting was up to ten minutes in the waiting room after she booked in.
"And what, you'd of rung me after she'd been checked onto the children's ward?" His voice was still gruff and he didn't spare her a glance, his lips attached to the top of Tilly's head and his sights remained on the floor.
It wasn't good enough.
Tilly was their daughter. She was their little girl, Evan's baby, and if she wasn't well like this he expected to be told. He'd had his phone on him. (Y/n) could have gotten through to him or left him a message because even if he didn't answer right away, he would at least have gotten a voicemail or a text from her. He would have gotten down here as soon as possible, but (Y/n) didn't even call.
If Evan didn't have the good sense to check his phone and try to check in on them he would have finished his shift and gone home to find neither of his girls there waiting for him.
"Baby please, I'm sorry."
What else could she say? What else could she do to make it up to him and show him she hadn't done this on purpose?
(Y/n) didn't purposely ignore Evan or bring Tilly here with the intention of not calling him and leaving him out of the loop. She wouldn't do that.
She wouldn't dare.
Evan had to know that. He had to know that (Y/n) knew how much he loved her and their daughter and he needed to know that (Y/n) wouldn't not tell him something like this. Tilly had been whimpering for Evan all day and when she realised where they were going this afternoon she had been breathlessly crying out for him. (Y/n) would of called him as soon as possible when she got a signal on her phone.
"I told you to check in with me. I said to let me know how she is, you can't just not tell me." Evan tried to hide the edge to his voice that sounded more reprimanding than angry, but he felt the way (Y/n) shuddered into his arm and clung to him tighter.
"Daddy,"
"I'm here now, I've got you princess." Evan pecked the top of her head again and began swaying her from left to right. But he didn't pull his arm out of (Y/n)'s grip and he didn't say anything when she pecked his shoulder.
He glanced down at her with one raised brow and pursed lips; a look (Y/n) knew well. A look that implied he wouldn't broach the subject any more right now, but they would certainly be talking about this later.
"Tilly Buckley?"
(Y/n) looked her bag on her shoulder and clutched at Evan's arm when he stood up with Tilly curled up against his chest. She had been told that despite the number of people in here today, Tilly would be a priority. She was a toddler with breathing difficulties, they wouldn't have to wait long.
And despite how angry she knew Evan was and how surprising his presence was, (Y/n) was glad he was here. Tilly was always calmer around him and she didn't play up when Evan was with her.
They followed the nurse through a corridor and down into a cubicle in the assessment ward. It had been a while since they had been in here. When Evan came to the emergency room, it was usually the team who brought him in the middle of a shift. The last time he was here for himself was when he'd dislocated his knee.
And the last time they had been here in the emergency room was for (Y/n) when she'd gotten an infection near the end of her pregnancy. She'd been so sick all she could throw up was bile and stomach acid and it started to give her stomach cramps. Evan had to haul her from the car and practically carry her in here.
They'd never had to bring Tilly to the emergency room before.
Once they were in the room, Evan carefully eased Tilly down in the middle of the bed and stood behind the bed so she could slouch back into his abdomen. His hands ran up and down her sides to try and keep her calm and stop her from wriggling away or trying to curl up and go to sleep. She had probably missed her afternoon nap and because she wasn't well she was going to be extremely tired.
"Hi there little lady," The doctor had a calming smile on her face and there was a nurse in the corner of the room, presumably to take notes and possibly bloods if needed.
Tilly looked at the doctor as she wheeled a stool closer to be in front of the bed, but she didn't speak. She tilted her head back into Evan's chest and stared up at him with those big doe eyes that were watering already.
"Is it just breathing problems that brought you here today?" The doctor looked between the couple as (Y/n) started to knot her hands together in front of her and one foot jittered against the floor.
"She was sick all night, and had a temperature this morning. But she couldn't breathe properly this afternoon, she's really struggling."
"And now she's got a rash." Evan leaned down and pecked the top of Tilly's head when she squirmed back into him like she was trying to wriggle away.
"Okay, let's take a look."
Tilly looked like she was about to protest and scuttle away until Evan's hands held her waist and his arms pressed into her sides to keep her in place. He let her lean back into his abdomen and held tight which seemed to both calm her down and stop her from moaning in protest.
The little girl snapped her eyes closed when the stethoscope pressed to her chest, and she croaked when it moved to press against her back to listen to her lungs. "Deep breath please sweetie."
(Y/n) reached out and gently tangled her fingers in Tilly's hair, brushing the curls away from her eyes to try and keep her calm because it was clear she wasn't happy. And her breathing was starting to crackle again. (Y/n) saw the way the doctor pursed her lips and sighed, although she tried to keep a calm smile on her face.
"Can I take your temperature?"
"Daddy…" Pressing her head back into Evan's abdomen, Tilly stretched her arms out and dug her nails into Evan's chest and arms, anywhere she could reach to try and make him help. She wanted to be picked up and cuddled, she wanted to be taken home. This was scary and she didn't want to be here, wherever here was.
Her little eyes screwed shut and her nose crinkled when a violent cough left her lips and had her wheezing. Her shoulders pulled in and she started to gasp to try and take in a deep breath.
"Deep breaths, baby." Evan murmured while he crouched down so his head was level with hers and she could lean back into his chest. Her head fell back on his shoulder and when she started to wave her hands in front of her chest, Evan enveloped his large hands around her small ones. He started to take deep breaths to coach Tilly to do the same until she was able to take croaky breaths instead of strangled gasps.
She kept her head back on Evan's shoulder and stopped squirming when the doctor pressed the thermometer in her ear.
"Let's see that rash."
"Come'ere," Evan murmured against her cheek and pulled her shirt up so the doctor could see the spots and raised bumps along her chest that matched the ones on her back. They definitely hadn't been there this morning. Both parents would have noticed. As soon as (Y/n) saw them when she changed Tilly this afternoon, she knew she had to call the doctors.
"Okay," The doctor smiled softly and hooked the stethoscope back around her neck while she sat back and looked between both parents. "It looks like she has a nasty chest infection, but I think she's starting to develop sepsis."
Evan did his best to hide the groan at the back of his throat and he dragged his hand down his face, unable to stop from scratching his nails into his face. He felt the way (Y/n) leaned over and clamped her hand down on his shoulder and when he noticed she was shaking, he glanced up at her.
This wasn't good. An infection was bad enough, but sepsis was worse. Her body was attacking the healthy tissues while trying to fight the infection, she could go into shock. This could cause respiratory failure. This was serious. Tilly was a toddler, not much more than a baby, having sepsis would put her at very high risk and could potentially kill her.
"What do you do, to treat that?"
(Y/n) darted her eyes between Evan and the doctor while Evan kissed Tilly's cheek and moved back up to standing behind Tilly once again.
"We take bloods to confirm, get her straight onto the children's ward and set her up on antibiotics and fluids. I'm afraid you'll be here for a while."
Neither of them cared how long they were going to be here, as long as Tilly got cared for and looked after then they would stay for hours, days, a week or more. They would stay and make sure their daughter got the treatment she needed.
"No, m-mummy," A grumbling cough vibrated past Tilly's lips and she winced when the nurse wheeled a tray across to the bed so she could take the blood sample. Once they got the blood Tilly would be straight onto the ward and then it would just be a matter of waiting for the results to get the right antibiotics.
She started to wriggle on the bed and managed to stand up until she could coil her arms around (Y/n)'s arm and try to tug her closer, presumably so she could be picked up and cradled. The way she coughed made (Y/n) grimace and she caught Evan wincing out the corner of her eye.
He hated how desperate she was for breath and how she swayed back and forth, showing she was drowsy and had no sense of balance.
He knew when they got her onto the ward she would be on oxygen, maybe even an inhaler to get her lungs opening up properly. She wasn't going to like this.
"It's okay baby, sit down." She brushed her fingers through her hair and rubbed her flushed cheek, but the tears streaming down Tilly's face made her wince.
"Mummy," It was as if Tilly thought one of them would cave and take her home. Her eyes seemed to double in size and the way her lips were trembling as she gasped for breath made (Y/n)'s heart break. She wanted nothing more than to cradle Tilly in her arms and make everything better, but she couldn't do that yet.
"Alright princess, come on. I know you can be a good girl for me."
Tilly didn't make a sound when Evan reached out and took her from (Y/n)'s arms. He lifted her up so he could plonk down on the end of the bed himself and he carefully set his little girl down on his lap. His arms bound around her waist with her hands holding onto his wrists with a surprisingly strong grip.
She slouched back into him and nuzzled her cheek into his bicep in a rather cute way like she was trying to hide in his embrace.
(Y/n) stood beside the bed, curling her hand around Evan's bicep while he pecked the top of Tilly's head and took one of her hands to hold out towards the nurse.
The two year old grumbled and started to whine breathlessly until she dared to glance up. Once she saw the stern look Evan gave her, she burrowed her face back into his arm and closed her eyes. She stayed extremely still apart from the odd croak or cough and she mewled quietly when the needle slid into the crease of her elbow.
"See, such a brave girl."
"One of my best patients." The nurse handed the vile of blood over to the doctor, but the grin on her face made both parents smile.
Of course Tilly would be a model patient once Evan told her to be good or stay still and be brave. She would do anything he asked, she was always good for Evan, she wouldn't step a toe out of line because she would never want Evan to be mad with her.
He was her protector.
"I'll get this sent off and find someone to get you booked onto the ward."
Once both the doctor and the nurse disappeared from the room, (Y/n) perched down on the end of the bed and went back to curling her hands around Evan's tense bicep. She nuzzled her cheek into his shoulder and tucked herself up into his side while she watched their girl burrow into his chest. Tilly was on the verge of falling asleep and it might calm her down a bit if she had a nap now.
"Sorry I didn't call you… I'm glad you got here quick." Her voice stayed quiet and she closed her eyes until she suddenly felt Evan's fingers beneath her chin.
He tilted her head up from his shoulder so they were face to face again and the softening look in his eyes made (Y/n)'s stomach burst with adrenaline.
"I gotta look after my girls, don't I?"
And then, later, Buck will connect the dots. He'll go back to this moment of praise from Bobby, a moment of validation. "I should've seen the signs, he was just there and I-I didn't see it. I was so caught up in-. I should've seen it."
He just can't wrap his head around it. Why would Bobby want to leave?
Buck will probably feel guilty about the fire, about not seeing Bobby was unwell. They'll all feel guilty because while Bobby knows what's going on in the life of each of them and supports all of them individually, none of them at the 118 is aware of the real struggles Bobby is going through. They have no clue.
Bad vibes coming at the 118...
Fun little fact about breaking points/ key moments that are either the end of Bucks relationships or the moment something happens that sets their demise in motion - Buck wears dark green
Abby leaves - dark green plaid shirt
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5003706f25ca0b008c8b831917dc2df7/19a312fb0f4e63ea-48/s540x810/58b2f76e82bda67b163a513cda15ac400e7b5ed0.jpg)
Buck moves into Maddies after he has accepted his break up with Abby (technically this is a bit later as he has moved into Chims and this is him being kicked out of Chims, but it all plays into the same concept!) and the uses of plaid here is also a bit of a nod to that airport costume in my opinion.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/752b048331c2a18150d8730342b10a9e/19a312fb0f4e63ea-b6/s540x810/5eb5e74cf2422844e6a360ec477b1ce74fc8e93c.jpg)
Ali breaks up with him
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d11b4d7a2b52353575beeff501fe96c9/19a312fb0f4e63ea-b1/s540x810/e91a63f47d0c43d77cb4bdd3636bfa4771fbb67c.jpg)
Buck tells taylor he kissed Lucy
Buck ends things with Taylor
I've included this because it felt like a break up of an aspect of Buck and Eddies relationship at this moment - as well as the moment when Buck was being delusional about Natalia and her seeing him. its also the scene where we get the line about not dating people you meet on the job - which feels like foreshadowing for the Buck and Natalia relationship
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1789b75f676a18a3d3028dbed8b3f5ef/19a312fb0f4e63ea-3d/s540x810/d88b14d4209dcef2dac7833f7e004f109bca416b.jpg)
And now we have this still - I thought it was a green toned black shirt - and it might very well still be, I won't know for sure until we see the scene play out, -but now I'm looking at it on my proper computer screen and not my phone screen at 4am, its looking much more dark green to me and therefore potentially fits into the Buck relationship costume colour way - black with a dark green top layer.
So if this does in fact turn out to be dark green - it either means one of three things - this is connected to a Buck/Natalia break up in some way, or we're going to see some drama and divorce era 2.0 for Buck and Eddies relationship, or this is a scene where we see Buck and Eddie grow closer together.
I tend more towards it being a Buck/Natalia break up related scene which actually doesn't preclude it from also pushing Buck and Eddie closer together! The reason I say that the dark green could be a sign of them growing closer is becuase aside from all the outfits above, there are only two other instances of Buck wearing a dark green - the olive green jumper he wears in 3x11 - the This is Eddies house I'm not really a guest scene,
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5fb6ba3e8c47a8608a0d181c330957c5/19a312fb0f4e63ea-aa/s540x810/154066080f5e7e8bc2a3334f89f0fc1d558ffef9.jpg)
and then the following episode when they take Chris skateboarding.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/62074dcc6fb8801155757c260a79029f/19a312fb0f4e63ea-4b/s540x810/704fa4678286c8d692c1a6115106a2c6d37add3f.jpg)
⛪️ ⛪️ ⛪️ ⛪️ ⛪️
Hi 💕💕
⛪️⛪️⛪️⛪️
“What did you do to spend eight years in prison, Eddie?” Buck asks, barely lifting his eyes to look at the man next to him. The church has become a haven for him, a place where he feels like he can be his true self. At least to a certain point. And he wishes that he didn’t have to go to great lengths to achieve his goals. And he wishes that he didn’t have to use Eddie as a pawn in all of this.
Eddie swallows dryly, not expecting the question to be dropped so suddenly on him. And he hasn’t thought about that time of his life for a long time, trying to put it behind him.
“Armed robbery. And assault with a deadly weapon. I was sentenced to ten years but got out on parole after eight years due to good behavior” The words leave a bitter taste in Eddie’s mouth, bringing up memories that he would rather forget about. But he can’t preach about turning his life around if he doesn’t tell the story about what he did.
“Really?” Buck’s eyes widen in surprise.
“You seem to forget that I used to run with Los Diablos Rojos. It’s nothing short of a miracle that I didn’t get caught doing something worse or I would probably still be in jail” Eddie stares at a small crack in the wall, right past Buck’s line of sight.
“So what is the worst thing that you did, Father?”
Eddie feels his entire body tensing up at Buck’s questions and he shakes his head a little, not wanting to talk about it. Because it isn’t who he is anymore. It was never who he was, it was a means to get by, to get a sense of community and a feeling of belonging.
