A moment of peace.

No Jiraiya screaming in her ear about beautiful women, or Orochimaru muttering under their breath about things she’s certain she should not ask for clarification about.

Just her, Dan and a nice little picnic under the biggest cherry blossom tree in all of Konoha. A tree Tsunade knew well, having watched her grandmother tenderly planting it in the ground in her favourite resting spot.

“One day,” her grandmother promised as she guided her hands to bunch up some dirt over the saplings' roots. “This will be a tree big enough to sit under, and you’ll be able to spend your days sitting here. Maybe you’ll even have a moment to spare to remember me.”

Her grandmother was right. Here she was almost twenty years later standing under that same tree, staring up at the beautiful cherry blossoms blooming on the branches, and all she could think about was the woman who had sat by her bedside singing when she was scared, or stood behind her and taught her how to mix ingredients perfectly into a wonderful dish. 

She was so caught up in her memories that she forgot who she was with.

“Earth to Tsunade,” Dan flicked her against the forehead, chuckling when she glared at him. “So you are still in there.”

Rubbing the offending area, she huffed. “I like your kisses better,” she muttered under her breath. “Besides, it’s not like you can blame me.”

“I know, I know,” his laughter was infectious. A brilliant sound in a world so full of terrible noises. “This tree’s important to you. That’s why I thought it would be nice to have a picnic here.”

A picnic with the perfect view, in her opinion. With Dan in the forefront and the cherry blossoms perfectly framing him in a picture she would love to commit to memory.

A moment she never wanted to lose. 

“Just the two of hs,” she smiled at the thought. No teammates to come crashing in to ruin their fun. “You told Sakumo-“

“He’s training with Jiraiya,” Dan assured her. “When I told him my plan he agreed to distract the most likely person to interrupt us.” A Perfect plan. She knew she could count on the Hatake to have her back. 

“So it really is just the two of us,” with that confirmed, she slid in close to Dan’s side and laid her head on his shoulder. Something she would refrain from doing if they were expecting anyone else. “Some peace and quiet for once.”

“Just once,” Dan chuckled. “As a treat.”

The worst part was he wasn’t even wrong. With Jiraiya as her teammate, ‘peace’ wasn’t something she got often. It was only in a select few places where she could find a momentary escape from the loud brashness of her friend.

Dan’s company was one of those places.

“You know,” tilting her head back, she stared up at the tree above them and watched as a single petal separated from the flower and floated down, landing on top of Dan’s head. “Pink is a good colour on you.”

“It is, hmm?” Taking the hint, he reached up and searched his head until he found that lone petal, plucking it from his long silver hair and holding it out in front of himself. “Huh.”

“What is it?”

“Oh, nothing,” he moved the petal just in front of her face, still staring at it. “Just thinking.”

“About?”

Lowering the petal, he grinned. “About how much more beautiful you are than any flower I have ever seen.”

Heat rises through her neck into her cheeks. “I-'' unable to process his words, she reverted to standard operating procedure when dealing with embarrassment and punched him in the arm. She had enough control to keep from releasing chakra into the punch, meaning he wasn’t sent flying into the air, but it was still hard enough that Dan cringed away from her.

“Oww,” he complained, rubbing the affected area as if it would make the pain fade. “You know, I need this arm in working condition for my next mission.”

“I’ll heal it,” she promised, a mere mutter under her breath that he barely caught. “Just like I always do.”

“Well, I supposed I’m lucky that way,” tilting his head back he stared up into the sky. “I got the best medical ninja in the world to fall in love with me.”

“The slug princess,” she winked, using the nickname that the old puppeteer from Suna had given her. A nickname she found she loved a lot more than she was supposed to. “Are you sure that’s what you want in your life?”

Reaching out towards her, he threaded his fingers into her hair and pulled her in close, pressing a kiss against her forehead.

“Absolutely,” he whispered against her skin. “I can’t imagine my life without you by my side, Tsunade.”

Cheesy. Clearly, he had been spending too much time with Sakumo, he was picking up those dorky habits of his.

“Forever?”

“Forever and after.” He promised, smiling that bright handsome smile she loved so much.

“I’ll hold you to that, Dan Katō.” 

Here, under the cherry blossom tree, she had helped her grandmother plant, Tsunade saw her future unfolding in front of her. A future with Dan by her side, and many more dates under this same tree. 

Maybe one day, if she was lucky, they would marry here. Then her grandmother would have front row seats to that bright, beautiful future.

Thoughts on HashiMito and DanTsu?

It's not like I dislike HashiMito or anything just because I ship Hashirama with Madara. It's just that they don't even have a single interaction to judge what kind of couple they are... Hashi got resurrected and was proudly declaring that he was looking forward to see his old friend.

They are the Official Couple but looks like a fanon one. So, I don't have any opinion about HashiMito.

As for DanTsunade, It's another example of a couple with a perfect relationship.... I repeat 'relationship' development. Not just blind Romance or Crush. Just like how 2 people meet in their Office, they share common interests, they get along, focus on their goals, love each other. It's very neat, mature and pleasant.

Tsunade has her own dream to reform the Medical System of Konoha & Dan has his own dream of becoming a Hokage. Both are supportive of each other's dreams. I think in a perfect AU, they would've been 'The Power Couple'... Like Dan being a Hokage and Tsunade handling a 'Medical Academy' to pass off her knowledge to many other aspiring Ninjas and going out for difficult missions...

[[People who say Girls don’t have any dreams in this series... Well, here you go... There is one... A realistic & a Noble one at that... And she fucking fulfilled it. The Author just refused to give one for ‘certain’ characters because they have no purpose in this Story anyway... ]]

Even after Dan got resurrected, Tsunade wasn't wetting over her Beloved Dan.

She was very much focused on her Hokage duties... Well, Dan didn’t even cross her mind after that Unlike ‘certain’ other characters where they wet immediately on the their sight of their beloved... ‘XXXX-Kun’..... 

She not only achieved her own dreams, she fulfilled Dan’s dream as well by becoming the Hokage. It started with this...

And she finally got her closure to her relationship when Dan kissed her forehead. 

What’s not to like about this ship??? 

Within the small space allocated for them, as a Side Characters, this ship impressed me a lottttt more than ‘certain’ other ships with Main Characters.

Oh by the way... Why didn’t the author draw something like this for.... Oops never mind.... Not here....

This ship is the best example that the Author knows how to write Romance.

I've been strolling through your blog and began wondering about one thing: what does it even mean for a ship to become canon? Pretty philosophical, ik. If you ask Google you'd get "ship that got confirmed by series" but that's still pretty vague. Do we count any relationship? (one night stands? unresolved sexual tension? ppl going on dates? loveless marriages? lifelong partnerships? broken relationships? ect.) Even if there are no romantic feelings involved? Even if they're one-sided? After all, being in relationship doesn't equal being in love or being attracted to your partner. What about characters who have mutual romantic interest and/or deep emotional bond but never actually got to be together? I've seen plenty of ships (mainly wlw or mlm tbh) where characters have a thing for each other but due to circumstances and/or tragedy never got together. Love, after all, doesn't have to be shown by kissing, pda or explicit confessions. It can be shown by tiny gestures, sacrifices, bond they share, development, subtle messages, being there for each other, subtext ect. You mostly likely see where I'm going at.

I know it's just my opinion, but I simply can't see that type of 'love' between those two 'canon' ships. Ik definitions of 'love' and 'happiness' varies from person to person, but if I were to ship them, they became canon (got married/had kids) and were like, ahem that, I'd be the first one to protest. This isn't even about dysfunctionality, but about how one-sided it all feels...

LOL. @noa-ciharu !!! You probably should've sent this question to an NH or SS supporting Blog and I wonder what answer you'd be getting back. Either you won't get an answer or you would get an Explanation post which uses the same templated 10 panels that they use in every posts to explain their ship's "Proof of Love".

However, To answer your Question, "What does it even mean for a ship to become canon?"

From Business Perspective, The Basis on which a ship could become canon is To Bring Out Kids through Crowd Favourite Couples. It's as simple as that.

You mentioned so many types of Relationship like One night stands? Unresolved sexual tension? People going on dates? Loveless marriages? Lifelong partnerships? Broken relationships?. While Naruto is not a Genre to explore all of these, it sure has shown some Reciprocated Relationships even when the plot never required it.

For Example, YahiKonan is a ship which is not all needed by any logic. It didn't add any value to the Overall theme of the story.

But the Author went out of his way show a Love between 2 Orphans who lives in a War-Torn Country.

It all requires just Half a page, you know. Just 3 or 4 panels. I mean picture Yahiko as Naruto... Well, If you can't imagine then I'll help you imagine it...

Tell me, Can you even spot a difference between Naruto and Yahiko?

Especially, Pain Arc is where Kishimoto said that he confirmed NH. Well, it isn't surprising, considering Hinata came out of nowhere to jump before Naruto to fight Pain.

If the Author can make Konan to heal Yahiko's wounds... Can't he able to make Hinata to come check on her Naruto-kun and bandage his wounds for him??? Instead he made Sasuke look-alike, Sai to do the Band-Aid'ing thing here.

It's just that, at every given time the Author could've done something useful for his main 'Canon' couples, he refused to give them anything. Not even a Bread crumb of Reciprocation from the Boys' side.

Leave SNS... I don't care about it for now.

Right after the Pain Arc, he brought YahiKonan out of nowhere in just 3 panels.

He brought MinaKushi out of nowhere in just 3 or 4 pages.

He even brought an excellent closure to DanTsunade by making Dan to kiss Tsunade's forehead.

AND THE WORD RECIPROCATION IS THERE IN ALL THESE 3 HETERO COUPLES.

That's why, Saying... Kishimoto don't know how to write (Hetero) Romance/ Love/ Relationship is just a Joke to me. He knows all too well as to how to establish a reciprocated bond in as little as 3 panels. He could've very well did this for his main 'Canon' couples and You wouldn't be asking this question to me at all. But He didn't do it because he simply wanted to show the Audience that 'This Ship happened for the sole reason to bring out babies for Next Generation'.

So, To become Canon... The Requirement is to be Popular and ***No Homo****.

This is just from a money-making perspective though.

From Shipping/Shippers' Perspective, It was all about Winning the Bragging Rights about how their Self-Inserted dream came true. That's all.

Their thought process goes, 'I have been shipping this couple for 10 Years.... And Hinata/Sakura did so much for these Boys. So, I have to become Canon as a reward for all my efforts.'

In Your Ask, you said so many things about the way the Author can show Love...

It can be shown by tiny gestures, sacrifices, bond they share, development, subtle messages, being there for each other, subtext etc.

All these Gestures you listed here would have been expected by those shippers too. Am not going to deny that. At the end of the day, they are not some emotionless morons.

They Waited.

For 12 years.

But nothing happened. Atleast Not from those Boys' side.

They stepped into the pit with one leg in the hopes that something will happen... But at no point they felt like they could able to step back out of the pit because of all those efforts they poured into the Ship for so many years. Fanarts, Fanfics... (???)

And Finally, Poof... They became Canon. Now all of their shipping fantasies came true in a single chapter.... And the Lack of Development doesn't even matter to them.

All because those Couples had Sex and Babies. It's also a general assumption that, in a Media... If a couple got confirmed in the End, it means they loved each other all along.

So, The Lack of Development or Reciprocation, Subtexts, Tiny Gestures, Standing by the Side etc... etc... don't even matter to them. They could fill all the lack of XXX with Fanfics and Fanarts.

At the End of the Day, Winning at all costs is what matters and the Bragging rights it gives them.

So, In Naruto Series... What it means to become Canon???

A Way to get babies & make a show about those said babies and The right to scream, 'Yay!! We became Canon'

Anyway, I thought I would pick your brain about this : One of the reasons I feel Kishimoto sensei made the story on purpose about Sasuke and Naruto and their bond almost exclusively without exception, is how he deliberately not only didn't give any romantic development to Naruto and Sasuke with any woman, but sabotaged the one sided infatuation of these women ruthlessly. Like not only he gave flimsy and surface development to these two female characters who are in love with the Bois (I don't believe Kishi can't write romance, I also don't believe he can't write at least halfway decent female characters, he just chose not to) he went ahead to crush those feelings with the storyline. Sasuke rejecting Sakura like yesterday's trash. Everytime. Naruto, my sweet baby bless him, didn't even acknowledge Hinata. Like at the end of Pain arc, Kishimoto could easily have shown one scene, just one where Naruto just asks Hinata if she was okay, she almost died for him I mean. But no. Totally ignored her after Neji died too. These two moments when she proposed to him, were heavy with story and plotpoints, it would have made sense if there was a reaction from Naruto's side to Hinata's feelings, any reaction. But like sensei chose to not even write them. It's so funny.

I felt like sensei not only deliberately wrote the women in a bad light, he made something akin to the development of something romantic, just to later deliberately sabotage them. Like he was trying to tell us something?? Wink wink. Also, since I don't consider the ending part of the story anyway, so I don't really care.

He can write a genuine, organic, non-toxic and cute romance.

ShikaTema, MinaKushi, DanTsunade, YahikoKonan.

My top example would be Shikamaru and Temari. In real world, that's how majority of romance would be. Despite not being from a same village, let alone a same team, their development was believable, non cringey and non toxic. Their conversations were always formal and yet a slight tinch of tease which leans towards romance.

So I will not believe he can't write romance.

Except for the fact that he made the women characters revolve around men and blatant objectification of their breasts, he wrote some wonderful women in his Manga. He even made some of them as Kages for their respective villages.

Also say hello to Ino, Mei, Karin (They are not as great as the ones above but their jutsus are just amazing and powerful like Hell. No wonder Hashirama sought Ino, Sasuke sought Karin, Mei literally burned Sasuke's Susanoo)

All it takes is 1 or 2 panels.

Sasuke and Karin seemed to have a non-toxic business relationship. Although Karin was extremely flirtatious, when it comes to business, she would not cry and pray like the Pink Trash. Instead she would stand up on her feet and do what she have to do.

If I have to build their relationship by making Sasuke to reciprocate, I would just make a panel or two in the Bridge scene. Instead of abandoning her, I would make Sasuke to go back and take her with him by saying, 'Sorry, I was wrong. I will never abandon you hereafter'.

This 1 scene is enough. It shows Sasuke really cares about her well-being despite all the mess and was willing to take responsibility. It doesn't sound OOC at all. We really don't need any more corny romance after that. It's already understandable.

He may have written both Sakura and Hinata with a better ambition, a strong attitude and cooler Jutsus to compliment their love interests. (Konan and Ino says Hi!!)

There is this widespread theory that if Naruto acknowledged Hinata’s love and Sasuke did the same with Sakura, then it will diminish the bond between Naruto and Sasuke. Well, despite having a teasing relationship with Temari, that didn’t stop Shikamaru from forming a natural and well established bond with Naruto. By the time of the War Arc, we could see Shikamaru really wanted to help Naruto with all his knowledge. Kishi could have done the same with Naruto and Sasuke.

There are many scenes between Naruto and Sasuke which could���ve been avoided and it will never affect the story, not even a bit. 

A purposefully ambiguous unfinished sentence ‘Naruto... I’, followed by an intense stare with a mere centimeters away.

Uncharacteristic privacy breach.

Mysterious obsession to save a person who can be killed by a certain person alone. No one can touch him. 

Intense gaze, despite all the mess and pain, with no sense of another person around.

An utter useless but funny scene which makes no freaking sense.

Look, I never considered that ‘Accidental Kiss’ as something important. I know it was a joke. It was never the USP of SNS ship. But what’s the point of bringing that incident at this point of time? Why waste this many panels on something useless which will never help the story and could have been used on other female characters who really needed some development?

Please remove all these panels. It would not interrupt the story at all. Of course Naruto with his plot armour don’t need to be saved by specifically Sasuke. Give that scene to his Dad or other Hokages. 

Objectively speaking all the other panels are completely useless to the storyline if they are just ‘Friends’. I will jump out of this ship and fandom altogether.

I have to say, Kishimoto can

Write a decent woman character with strong presence like Tsunade.

Write a believable romance which never feels forced like ShikaTema.

Write a natural and established bond as Friends like Shikamaru and Naruto, Kakashi and Obito.

Instead Kishimoto purposefully violated all his writings & did a complete 180 degree and painfully gave us some trashy and annoying bishes, undeveloped and off-putting & puke flavoured ships, an Over-The-Top intense friendship with purposefully ambiguous scenes which point towards romantic side. 

Like he was trying to tell us something??

I can only fathom out three reasons

Kishi must be a lunatic who likes to screw up every readers.

Kishi must be a closet Bisexual who had a gay love on someone like Sasuke. Due to circumstances, they have to marry someone else. So, he might be projecting his own life.

Kishi must be educating women like Hinata and Sakura, that if you love a man obsessively who never acknowledged your love, just move on and have a life. That man might be interested on someone else. Otherwise you will be the lonely housewife who has to wait for him forever.

I saw the ask about itadei, and I agree with you about that pairing. I was wondering if you have thought much about Itachi/Shisui? Their relationship was expanded on a lot more in some of the side projects like ovas.

There needs to be a chemistry to ship two people. Be it an obsession or some attraction or repressed feelings or some 'tension' or Teasing.

You will find most or atleast one of the above in SNS or HashiMada or DanTsunade or ShikaTema or MinaKushi.

Itachi and Shisui never had any of the above. They just had an excellent camaraderie of friendship and I would call them Best friends. That's how friends are supposed to be. They don't seem to be obsessed about each other or they don't have any repressed feelings which they can afford to expose or any attraction of that sort . They just behave like themselves and move forwards to achieve their goal.

Moreover, Itachi cannot be shipped with anyone in this series. He never showed any such indications at any point of time with anyone. He is a total goal-oriented person. Probably he can be shipped with that girl named, Izumi, Yes!! to an extent. But he killed her later.

So Itachi and Shisui are Best Friends. If anyone tells me Naruto and Sasuke are just friends, I would point Itachi and Shisui as an example as to how close friends should be. That's all.

Hello! I hope I am not bothering you much 😅. First I wanted to say that I love your vlogs! Your analysis of Sasuke and Naruto's feeling and generally their actions are amazing! Secondly I wanted to ask about what is your opinion on SakuHina/HinaSaku? I have seen many people saying that they are lovers and often use 'fillers' as to prove their love and claiming that they are just like SasuNaru/NaruSasu (which is in my opinion is really dumb). People often say that Hinata or Sakura had a crush on eachother from the very beginning but they were afraid of being rejected so they tried to 'cover up' their feelings by going after Naruto and Sasuke (again totally stupid). What I think is that these people just pair up Sakura and Hinata cuz they already ship Sasuke and Naruto and don't have anyone else to ship these two with so they make up these fault facts about them and also forse others to believe them as well. Personally if I were given a choice I'd probably ship SakuIno/InoSaku than ever shipping SakuHina/HinaSaku. What do you think about this pairing? Do you think that they had some sort of feelings together eachother? Or are they simply just fellow kunoichi and these people are just exaggerating?

Look, Anon!!! The only reasonable and make-sense pairing in this series according to me are SNS, HashiMada, DanTsunade, ShikaTema. Because there is some reciprocation from both the sides which is what I find it to be most important in any relationship.

As for InoSaku, I have already written a post about them. In short, they are just some crack pairs. I don’t see anything in them.

SakuHina is an horrible crack pairing I’ve never heard of. Like all the theories you’ve mentioned in the ask are all head canons. When it comes to this pairing, for once in my life I truly want to pity Hinata. 

Why?

Sakura is useless and pathetic compared to Hinata. Hinata atleast has the Byakugan and some pretty decent jutsu to fight others. She can see through Chakra points and with reasonable speed, she can knock off opponents. All Sakura can do is punch stuffs with a mediocre speed and an even more mediocre Medical Jutsu.

Canonically, Sakura was using Hinata as a CCTV camera or a Binoculars to see what her Teammates are doing far away in the battlefield. That’s all. Just like Ms. Pinky used some random Byakugan guy in the Pain Arc.

This Pinky is some trashy pig who uses other people for her benefit and throw away when she finds there is no use from them anymore. [Naruto and Ino said Hi!!!!].

Just to give you an analogy.

We all have that one useless friend, who accompanies us with the intent to watch a great movie in the theatre. But Once the movie starts, that useless pig will scroll through the Instagram and miss the important parts in the movie. Few minutes later, that pig will ask you, ‘Hey, What is happening over there? I can’t understand!!’.

Imagine that useless friend is Sakura and you are Hinata.

Hinata has to put up with this shit for her entire life. So, Nope. No one can put up with Sakura.

Stop shipping this absolute scum with anyone in the Narutoverse. 🤮🤮🤮
