DannyMay day 10: bones
Backstory to piece:
Back in 2020 we moved back into our old childhood home and we met the a feral cat that had taken to living under our house while we were away.
It took a whole year for us to tame her down enough for us to handle her and we named her Lilith. The original idea was to catch her, fix her and release her back, it never really crossed our mind that she'd want to stay but we were joyfully wrong. She never left and now 2 years later she doesn't really go out anymore, only coming out when we're doing yardwork or the occasional sunbathing.
Even though she rarely leaves, I still worry about her when she doesn't come back within her usual 10 minute sunbath on nice days. Thankfully her outings are becoming progressively rarer and she's content playing and napping inside with us but I'm still scared. Keep your cats indoors, it's dangerous out there.
Here's our half-toothed kitty 💕

What Was Bound What Was Loosed Chapter 7
For Dannymay 2024 Day 2: Wish
AO3
.
Ellie gazed at the island skeptically.
“You’re sure it’s this one?” she asked.
Fright Knight grumbled.
“What was that? You don’t know, because the last five islands you brought us to were wrong?”
“I do not stalk this woman,” said Fright Knight. “Do you think I have a running tally of every place she has been, every home she has had, every whim she has pointlessly chased?”
“I mean, what else do you have to do? Be stuck in a pumpkin?”
“I have a vast variety of duties, your highness,” said Frostbite, stiffly.
“Uh huh,” said Ellie. “Sure. Whatever. She started flying towards the island. Frostbite followed close behind her.
The island was arid, with few trees or other features. A circular building with an onion-shaped dome sat in the center.
“Are those glass bottles?” asked Ellie. “In the walls? Are they supposed to be windows?”
“I believe so,” said Fright Knight.
“A bit on point for a genie, isn’t it?”
“She does not like being called that,” said Fright Knight.
Really?”
“Really,” said Desiree, looming behind the pair.
“Oh, jeez, how do you do that? I thought I was sneaky.”
The corner of Desiree’s mouth twitched up. “I am what I must be. There are words you wouldn’t utter in my presence, and yet those same words are necessary to me.”
“Like, necessary necessary, or you just need them to do stuff?”
“Yes,” said Desiree, tail lashing back and forth, like a cat who had spotted a mouse. “But I assume you need something? No one seeks me out without a need.”
“Your king has a need,” said Frostbite.
Desiree stilled from the tip of her tail to the top of her head. “It’s true, then. It’s him.”
“If by him you mean Danny, then, yeah. They crowned him a while back.”
“And what makes him think that I’ll be any kinder with his wishes now than I was before?”
“Actually, I don’t think he knows we’re here,” said Ellie. “We kinda left without telling him.”
“Is that so?” asked Desiree. “What is it, then, that you two think I’ll help with? Money? Armies? Doesn’t he already have all of those things and more?”
“He’s having trouble sleeping,” said Ellie.
Desiree raised an eyebrow. “I was under the impression that it’s usually the other way around for new kings.”
“It was, for a while,” said Ellie with a shrug.
“And you want me to fix this?”
“We need some guarantees before you go all monkey’s paw on us, but yeah.”
The two older ghosts stared at her blankly.
“Wow, we’ve got to get you guys up to date on literature. I took lessons from Vlad for, like, a month, and I know that one.”
“Later,” said Fright Knight. “You would be handsomely rewarded if you could fix the king’s problem without… mischief.”
“Handsomely how?”
Ellie shrugged.
“I understand you have pretensions to a kingdom of your own,” said Fright Knight. “Our king is generous. You could have one, and be beholden only to him, no other.”
“Could,” said Desiree. “You have no guarantee of that. He doesn’t even know you’re here.”
“Then come with us to talk to him,” said Ellie.
“Talk to a new king? One so recently bound that he hasn’t even unmade anyone yet? One full of resentment and pain? My afterlife has flaws, but I enjoy it. Come back with an offer and a diplomat. Then we’ll talk.”
She turned away and disappeared into her house.
“Well,” said Ellie, “that could’ve gone better. Do we even have a diplomat?”
Fright Knight’s shoulders sloped ever so slightly. “No. Not yet.”
.
“You want me to what?” asked Vlad, peering at them over the cover of a large book. After being prevented from drinking himself to a second death, he had taken over a large set of rooms in the lower reaches of the palace, turning it into a sort of sad man cave.
“Be a diplomat.”
“On behalf of Daniel, I presume?”
“Who else?” asked Ellie with a shrug.
“And to whom?”
“Desiree.”
Vlad stared at her. “I'm too sober for this,” he said, finally. “Why would you even want me to do that?”
“Come on, don't be like that,” said Ellie. “You're the only person I know who is any good at negotiating and contracts and stuff.”
“Have you at least spoken to Daniel about it?”
“Is that really necessary? He's exhausted.”
“A state you are presumably trying to fix. You do realize, however, that my powers as a diplomat would derive directly from Daniel, and I would require his permission to act in his name.” He looked behind Ellie, where Fright Knight was standing. “Shouldn't you know about this?”
“It is good for the princess to learn it,” said Fright Knight.
Ellie stuck out her tongue at him.
“Come on, Vlad, you know this'll be easier to sell to Danny if we can show him an actual plan. And I know that figuring out what to give to Desiree will take a while. You know how badly Danny is sleeping. Help him out.”
Vlad sighed. “Very well. But both of you will be helping me with the research “
“Great,” said Ellie. “What first?”
“Organize my portal notes. They're in that cabinet, right there.
Ellie eyed the slightly moldy and water stained notes. “How… How do you even have these? Weren't they in your lab in your mansion?”
“I kept copies here in the Zone,” said Vlad. “I haven’t just sat around while you’ve been gone.”
“Really,” said Ellie.
“Don’t be so skeptical.”
Ellie squinted at the notes. “Are these in code?”
“Of course,” said Vlad. “I’m not careless enough to leave instructions for portals lying around where anyone could get them.”
“Uh huh. And how am I supposed to organize this if I can’t read it?”
“It’s a cipher I taught you,” said Vlad, waving her off. “I’m sure you’ll manage.”
Ellie sighed heavily and sat down next to Vlad. “This isn’t you trying to get back again, is it? Because I’m pretty sure that isn’t healthy.”
Vlad shot her a glare. “I haven’t been healthy since college, but, no. I am not chasing impossibilities. Am I not allowed to take pride in my own work? Am I not allowed to want to preserve it against future need?”
“Okay, okay. You don’t need to snap at me. How do you want me to sort these, anyway?”
“By topic, topics in alphabetical order,” said Vlad, already losing interest in her and returning to his book. Typical.
She huffed and looked up to rope Fright Knight in, but he was done. Wimp.
.
Clockwork had taken to carrying around a quilt.
Danny knew why. Now that he’d recovered somewhat from his coronation, he’d gone from borderline narcolepsy to insomnia, which, in turn, led to falling asleep when he was finally too exhausted to stay awake.
He didn’t like living like this, in a haze of permanent fatigue, his emotions raw from more than pain, more than the trauma of being bound as king, and he understood that Clockwork didn’t want him to act like this, either. The blanket was the closest he’d come to making a pointed remark about it. Well, maybe he should have thought about that before making Danny king.
And separating him from his home.
His friends.
Most of his family.
Most, because Ellie was here. In the Zone. Not in the palace. She and Fright Knight had disappeared somewhere the last couple of days, and since those days included Spectra coming to visit… Well, Danny couldn’t fault them for wanting to avoid him. He was awful company. But he was still unhappy about it. Especially the part where they left without telling him. At least, he couldn’t remember them telling him.
Danny’s current sleep habits were not conducive to memory retention.
So, he was unhappy. Layers of unhappy.
(And he also had the sneaking suspicion that he hadn’t just sent Spectra away, no matter what Clockwork said, and no matter that Clockwork had promised to be honest with him.)
A thrall approached and leaned close to Danny’s ear. Her highness has returned. Fright Knight has returned.
“Ellie’s back?” asked Danny. “And Fright Knight?” he added, as an afterthought.
There was a rattle of armor around one of the corners of the garden hedge and Danny looked up to see Fright Knight enter the small clearing around the fountain he was resting at.
“My liege,” said Fright Knight, by way of greeting. “I believe that I and the princess have found a solution to your sleeping problem.”
Oh, well, now Danny felt bad about being mad at them.
“What’s the solution?” asked Danny. He absently rubbed at the spot where the crown curled into his eye socket. He vaguely remembered Fright Knight saying something about Nocturne, and he desperately hoped that Fright Knight hadn’t dragged Nocturne here. He just… he couldn’t deal with Nocturne being here. He could barely deal with Clockwork and Fright Knight being here.
“The woman, Desiree,” said Fright Knight.
“Oh, wow,” said Danny. “That is… That sounds like a terrible idea.” Not to mention, Danny had no intention of letting anyone magic him to sleep, not after what had happened before.
“We could negotiate with her,” said Fright Knight. “She has desires as well.”
Danny opened his mouth to refuse, but hesitated. “What does she want?”
“A kingdom of her own.”
“I– Can I do that?” asked Danny.
“Yes,” said Clockwork. “Although finding such a kingdom residents is often difficult.”
“I… Is she here, too?”
“She wanted a diplomat,” said Fright Knight. “She forgets her place, but she could be useful.”
“Uh huh,” said Danny. He tried to lean back for a moment, forgetting that he was sitting on the edge of a fountain, and there was nothing behind him. Clockwork steadied him with a hand on his shoulder. “You… Maybe we could invite her, or hire her, or whatever, but… not for sleep.”
“Then what, my liege?”
Danny shrugged. This was probably an even worse idea than asking her to help him sleep, but… He wanted to know what he had done to Spectra. And… if he had done something terrible, well.
Well.It couldn’t have happened to a better person for it, but… if he had… he wanted to fix it.

Dannymay 2024, now with kitty paws!
Prompts from my AU, also in AO3
Day 2: Wish
“Hiss. Grrr. Meoeoew. Nyaaaa!”
“What the hell dude?!” Tucker frowned at his best friend.
The technogeek teen was holding his friend with a confused look in his eyes. Danny had transformed into a ghost cat to fight a ghost just before lunch, and came back after school was over. Tucker had grabbed the glowing blue cat with three eyes and hid with him in an alleyway.
The teen didn't know why Danny had not transformed back to his human form, and now his friend was making a lot of cat noises that Tucker would never be able to figure out what they mean.
“Ugh, I wish you could talk” Tucker mumbled while making his way through the park. He needed Sam now, but she had gone home to care for her sick plants.
“Nya! Hiss!” Danny now looked upset.
“What?” Tucker forgot one of the rules about speaking a specific word in the park.
From the fountain, a beautiful ghost emerged. She turned towards Tucker and, with a mischievous smile, she spoke.
“So you have wished, so it shall be!”
The ghost then disappeared in a cloud of pink smoke that covered half of the park for a few seconds.
“Cough, Cough! What the hell is in that smoke?! It smells like my grandma’s perfume” Tucker coughed a little.
“Como sea, eso no es importante” Danny said.
“Huh?!” Tucker looked at his best friend that was now talking. In Spanish.
“Tuck, mi amigo! ¡Tengo hambre! ¡Alimentame!” Danny exclaimed but Tucker looked blankly at the blue cat.
“Dude, Danny. I know Esperanto not Spanish”
“¡Tuck, aun no he almorzado y tengo hambre!” Danny gave Tucker a pleading look.
“Oh right! Wait a second” Tucker got an idea. He took his PDA from his backpack and opened the translation program he had installed some time ago in case another ghost like Wulf appeared and they didn't know the language.
“Ok done! You can speak now dude” Tucker was feeling proud of his quick thinking.
“¡Tengo hambre!” Danny exclaimed into the PDA.
“I'm hungry!” the robotic voice of the machine sprouted.
“…” Tucker looked at Danny with a deadpan face.
“¡Alimentame!”
“Feed me!”
“… why do I think that's what a normal cat would say?” Tucker was wondering if he just grabbed a normal ghost cat and not his friend.
“¡Tucker!” Danny whined.
“Tucker!” the machine repeated.
“Fine, fine. You are Danny and we are going to Sam’s house so she buys us some Nasty Burger” Tucker said with a smirk. There was no way he was not going to show Sam this.
“¡Oh, buena idea Tuck!” Danny nodded while purring.
“Oh, good idea Tuck! [Noises of contemptment]” the machine sprouted.
--------
not translated spanish: "Whatever, that's not important" "Tuck, my friend. I'm hungry! Feed me!" "Tuck I haven't had lunch yet and I'm hungry!"

Fic Stats Game
Rules: Give us the links to your fic with the most hits, second most kudos, third most comments, fourth most bookmarks, fifth most words, and fic with the least words.
@jackdaw-sprite thanks for the tag! I enjoy both being tagged in shit and doing the tag games! Let's fuckin gooooo! All data is from AO3 and does not include Tumblr information, nor stories posted only to Tumblr.
Most Hits: broken trust and the wounds hidden behind
This one is actually my highest by a significant amount! At the time of this post, it's at 6,463 hits. My number two story is at 3,814
Jack wasn't meaning to snoop in his son's room when he found a box of medical supplies and a USB with a tag that said IF I DON'T COME HOME. Danny’s secrets revealed, Jack is desperate to earn his son’s trust, to earn the right to this secret he stumbled across. After almost two years of unknowingly hunting his son, is Danny's trust too broken to heal?
Second Most Kudos: by your grave (the monster we made)
This one is second for pretty much all stats!
Maddie knew Danny kept secrets, it was a topic they didn’t discuss. But when she sees scars she knows he couldn’t have, she knows she can’t keep pretending. She just needs to figure out those scars.
Third-Most Comments: the walls you hide behind (I saw the truth inside the real you)
I'm actually suprised by that one! It's only been coming out for the past two-ish weeks!
Jazz is tired of the ghosts, tired of her parents not doing enough, tired of Phantom's recklessness and her brother's persistent exhaustion. When she yells all of her frustration at her parents after nearly getting killed by a ghost, she gets sent to Vlad's mansion in Wisconsin for the weekend - where she's offered a chance. She could have the ability to fight back, protect her brother and her town. Jazz leaps at the prospect. When she returns to Amity Park at the end of the weekend, it's with abilities and strength of her own, and she's fueled by anger and disdain. And she's got her eyes, first, on Danny Phantom.
Fourth-Most Bookmarks: Welcome to Intro to Ghosts
Man I really should update that fic shouldn't I?
Sure, turning sixteen was supposed to be a big year regardless, but this was a little beyond what Danny had expected when he'd both been told he was now king and then asked to be a teacher for the Intro to Ghosts class while also being a junior in high school. Now he has to juggle a secret identity, being a superhero, doing centuries worth of old paperwork Pariah didn't do, his own schoolwork, AND his students/classmates schoolwork! This'll be fun. Or catastrophic. Hopefully fun.
Fifth-Most Words: healing the wounds we hid
This is the sequel to broken trust, mentioned earlier! It's actually going to be my second highest word count (it's full draft is roughly 38k, but for where I am in posting, it's at number 2!) Once it's posted by your grave (the monster we made) (also referenced earlier), will be the actual number five.
Least Words: fang u for ur help
At a paltry 345 words, this is the shortest fic I've posted to AO3. It's a silly like DannyMay thing bc the idea was funny and didn't need to be any more than it is.
Danny has fangs and questions. DannyMay2023 Day 16: Fangs
Tags: GAH I HAVE NO IDEA WHO'S BEEN TAGGED AND WHO TO TAG. Ummmm. @scarletsaphire @lexosaurus @strawberrycamel, and anyone else who wants to!

DannyMay Day 2
Day 2: Backpack [ao3]
---------
Maddie stared grimly at the backpack and the contents she'd spread out on the table from it. The bag could only be a bug-out bag. Filled with everything Danny might need if he were to leave without any notice.
Her baby boy considered leaving to the point of packing this. The well-stocked first aid kit contained only added to the worry. One better stocked than her own down in the lab.
"Hey, I'm home!"
"In here, sweety. I got a quick question for you before you head upstairs."
Danny entered the kitchen and paled at seeing his bag, contents exposed, the ecto-dejector next to the first aid kit.
"Ah, I can explain."
"You don't have to. I've-, do you not feel safe here?"
Danny's hesitation spoke more than any words could.
"The ecto-dejector…have you been?" A breath before Maddie continued. "Have you been using it like drugs? Is that why our tech always-?"
Danny snorted a laugh. "Shit no. That stuff is rank. I use it sometimes, as a last resort when I get too hurt. It-" he had to tell her. She’d taken it well in all the erased times, so he held to that hope. "To explain, I gotta start with a story from when the portal turned on."

DannyMay 2024 Day 2: Wish
A month late, but I'm showing up with Starbucks.
Also on ao3!
Danny wanted. He wanted his teachers to give him a break, Vlad to stop harassing him, and for Jazz to stop bugging him about his homework. He wanted his parents to stop hunting him. He wanted them to stop making dangerous ecto weapons, he wanted them to stop shooting up the streets every time they saw a ghost. He wanted his dad to stop leaving the portal open, and his mom to stop picking him up from school in the GAV. He wanted the ghosts to stop attacking people and destroying things. He wanted Valerie to see that he wasn’t evil. He wanted Dash to stop beating up on him, and for him and his football buddies to leave him alone. He wanted down to his bones, heart, and core. He just wanted, but he slipped up. It was an accident, a slip of the tongue, but it really didn’t matter to her. Desiree appeared behind him, and sealed their fates.
The next day, Danny went downstairs to see his dad cross stitching at the table. Jazz didn’t say anything about his grades on the way to school. The classes and halls felt empty, missing too many students to be normal. His breath stayed warm in his throat, and he didn’t have to leave any of his classes to go fight. Valerie sat with them at lunch, and the lunchroom felt empty too. His mom picked him up in the car, and on the way home, she told him that Vlad had been found dead in his mansion. His parents ate dinner in silence that night, not once bringing up ghosts, or guns, or nets, or portals.
Danny made his way upstairs that night, and wondered what else he had changed with a word.

Lightning Rod: Dannymay Day 8: Electric Core AU
There's a thunderstorm, and Danny is missing. Jazz goes looking for him. She does not expect the lightning strikes to show her where he is.
Danny was missing. That was. Well, it wasn’t fine, but it wasn’t surprising either. He had been a lot more distant since what he had been referring to as the “Accident,” where he got zapped by the portal a few weeks ago. Jazz was worried. She was always worried to some extent; it was the result of having to basically be the parent since she was old enough to reach the kitchen counters by herself. But recently, she was even more worried, specifically about Danny.
It wasn’t just that he was distant, and that he was avoiding talking about the “Accident” with anyone besides Sam and Tucker. Jazz understood that. He had ended up hurt, and in the hospital, and even if he hadn’t ended up hurt, the fact that the portal had opened with him standing right there was probably enough for trauma to set in all on its own. It had only been a few weeks since it happened, and if it was in fact trauma, he’d likely need more time to digest it, time that she couldn’t spend trying to pry into his thoughts and feelings without making the problems worse. What worried Jazz was what he did when he wasn’t distant.
He tried to keep quiet during the night, but she shared a wall with him. She could hear the whimpers and cries of a nightmare at 2 AM. She could hear his terrified gasps and panicked breathing, mumbled curses and late night calls to his friends. She could hear the sound of things being knocked over as he… she didn’t know what exactly he was doing, but she knew it wasn’t good. She had left him a note on his desk, when he was downstairs getting breakfast before school. She didn’t want to pry, but she also wanted him to know that she was there for him. The note served that purpose just fine, even if he never mentioned it.
Then there was everything with their parents. Neither of them had what would be considered a good relationship with either of their parents, but it definitely wasn’t abusive. Neglectful, yes. Jack and Maddie may try to be good, but they were, and always had been, scientists first and parents second. Or scientists first, ghost hunters second, and parents third. But they had never hit either her or Danny, or threatened them, or anything that would make Danny flinch away from Jack’s touch, or avoid looking into Maddie’s eyes when she talked to him over dinner, or keep to the outside of the room, as quiet as a mouse, whenever one or both of them were in the room. It could have been some kind of teenage thing, being uncomfortable around their parents, but then Danny should be uncomfortable around her as well. He was, in some ways. But the discomfort he showed around her definitely fit more into the embarrassed teenager with overbearing parents than whatever he was doing with their actual parents.
Whatever was bothering Danny, it had to do with their parents. Whatever it was was apparently enough for him to have not returned home from school during a fairly bad thunderstorm. She had called both Sam and Tucker. They had said that he was with them, which should have been a relief, if they hadn’t both said at their respective houses. So one, or both, of them were lying, and if only one of them was lying, then there wouldn’t be much of a reason to lie in the first place. They were covering for Danny.
That’s why Jazz had taken her mother’s car (not the GAV. Until an actual ghost threatened her with whatever weapons ghosts might have, she would not drive that monstrosity.) and was currently driving around Amity Park, windows rolled down, shouting Danny’s name into the rain. She didn’t expect for her to find him, honestly. Amity wasn’t a huge town, but it was big. Too big to find a single kid that didn’t want to be found.
What Jazz expected to find less was that every single strike of lightning always seemed to land in the exact same place. It had taken her nearly 20 minutes to notice. She hadn’t really been paying attention; why would she? But after the flash of lightning struck straight into an empty parking lot 5 different times in about as many minutes, she got curious. It was stupid. She knew it was stupid. But she was still Jack and Maddie’s daughter, even if she wasn’t quite as dedicated to science as they were. This was too odd, too weird, for her to just leave. Curiosity and the cat and all of that.
The wind whipped at her hair and the raincoat she had pulled over herself on the way out of the house. It really was a bad storm. Jazz shouldn’t be out in it at all. But there was a chance that Danny was, and if nothing else she would be able to use this as an opportunity to guilt Danny into not going out in horrible storms without telling anyone where he was going. Maybe not the ethical solution, but he was her brother. A little manipulation here and there was to be expected. She approached the center of the parking lot, where she could see a washed out lump. She couldn’t make out the color in the rain and the dark, or the shape, or much of anything about it.
Lightning struck again, hitting the thing directly. In the brief flash of light she could make out the colors. Red and white shirt. Blue jeans. Black hair. Jazz froze, her breath caught in her throat. It couldn’t be. It couldn’t be Danny. He looked up and met her eyes. It was most certainly him. She would know his face anywhere, even if his eyes glowed a sickly green, their light piercing through the rain. Even if every movement caused sparks to dance across his skin. It was her brother.
He saw her and she saw him, and before Jazz could do anything, say anything, he panicked. He was on his feet and backing away from her before she could blink. No, he wasn’t on his feet at all. He was upright, no longer curled into a ball like he was before, but he wasn’t standing. He was floating.
Danny’s voice cut through the wind and rain in a way that it shouldn’t be able to. When Jazz had been calling for him, she had had to scream over the torrential rain just to hear her own voice. Danny’s was strained, but not with the effort to be heard, just with worry. “You can’t be here,” he said as he floated away. The words buzzed like static in Jazz’s head. She took a step forward. “It’s not safe, you need to leave.”
“Danny,” she said quietly, her words eaten by the wind. She tried again. “Danny, its not safe for you either!” She kept making her way towards him, the wind fighting her every step of the way. “I have mom’s car, we can get home safe, you just need-” She was cut off by another lightning bolt, striking Danny directly.
It was barely a split second. The light was blinding, but Jazz swore she saw Danny’s hair flash white. Saw his outfit change to one of the hazmat suits their parents had painstakingly made for both of them, only in different colors. And then the second ended, and it was just Danny. Just Danny, hovering in the air, green sparks flying between his fingertips and eyes that could shine through a storm. Jazz did not let herself be scared. Did not let herself be confused. “I don’t know what's happening, but I can’t just leave you here. It isn’t safe,” she called again. “I just want to help!”
Jazz felt like she was in a spotlight, as those glowing green eyes studied her. Finally, Danny nodded. He floated closer to her, still keeping a good ten feet distance as they both made their way to the car. “Not to home. Anywhere but there.” His voice felt like a whisper. She shouldn’t be able to hear it, but it seemed like the wind carried it to her. Jazz nodded, and got into the car. Danny did not join her. She had assumed he wouldn’t.
Jazz had questions. So, so many questions. She was scared, both for herself, and for Danny, and for whatever it was that was making this happen. But as she drove, watching as Danny, the Danny she had seen in that flash of lightning, flew behind her, barely visible in the falling rain, she knew that her questions could wait. Right now, her brother needed her, and he was more important than her curiosity.

Day 2 - Home
(A home is where the heart is.)
Danny Fenton really loves his family, no matter what.
Although his parents were not like any other parents out there, and there are past conflicts they have experienced ever since Danny became half of what his parents hunt due to the Ghost Portal Accident, he still loves them with all his heart.
After all, a home is where the heart is.
He was already home.
With his family, the one who he had cherished with all his heart.

The truth was that, aside from Tucker and Sam, the only person who knew how he actually died was Dani — Jazz assumed that he'd died in the portal and he was happy to let her think so.
Could you blame him, though? His death was embarrassing.
And confusing.
And all because his parents had to get fancy *while* also being ghost obsessed.
All because of the damn stairs.

Home
The building that housed Fentonworks had never been normal, no matter what neighbors and real estate agents might profess.
Things had happened there. Deaths. Wild twists of fate and shocking coincidences. People who lived there heard noises, saw things, felt things. Experienced sicknesses with no cause. Were cured of sicknesses without cause. Survived things that should have killed them.
It was a thin spot between worlds. Reality was a rippling membrane, frayed enough for things to shine through.
The construction of the neighborhood itself had been… strange. It happened much faster than it should have, as if there was a whole extra shift of workers on the project.
The townhouse that would one day become Fentonworks had stood out even in that mystery. Extra rooms, a basement deep enough to cause a nasty fight with regulators, features not approved by the architect.
It was a wonder they hadn’t hit any of the water lines or the sewage systems. A wonder- and an impossibility. So, the matter was ignored and dropped.
Then the next owners expanded that impossible basement, building another, secret basement and putting things in the walls- They were criminals, of course. It was expected for them to do illegal things. (Although exactly what they had done was… oddly uncertain.)
(Drugs, perhaps.)
Then, the lunatics. Then, the tiny cult that collapsed in on itself. Then the empty years, dozens of transient ghosts trying and failing to pass through, and the ghost hunters. So many ghost hunters, none of them particularly successful.
Then, the Fentons.
Then, little Jazz.
Then, little Danny.
Danny with wide eyes that saw too much.
And all the horrors that the Fentons could dream up, from living hotdogs to weapons that burned like stars and doors to places that should not be visited.
And this was Danny Fenton’s home.
.
The Manson estate was an odd case, even for Amity Park. Save for the basement, the entire building they lived in had been transplanted, brick and beam, from Germany.
Rich people were bizarre.
Even the Mansons couldn’t explain it. The man who had done it hadn’t been a Manson. The Mansons, who were relatively new money, all things considered, had purchased it from one of the man’s children. Anything to boost their prestige.
It was fancy, and it was old, a gothic and statuesque mansion worthy of its name. Still, it wasn’t quite fancy or old enough to merit the kind of expenditure moving it had to take.
Hence the rumors, squelched by the Mansons, that the place was haunted.
It wasn’t.
The rumors, however, were enough to get one Samantha Manson interested in the occult. Especially given how hard she saw her parents working to hide the rumors from her.
No. The mansion wasn’t haunted. For all it’s oddities and quirks – which only multiplied as the Mansons added more and more features to it – the building itself was mundane.
(The land it was built on might have been another story.)
And this was Sam Manson’s home.
.
The Foleys didn’t want to know what Tucker got up to in the attic, but liked to think that, with that one exception, their home was a nice one. It was on a nice street, in a nice neighborhood, just far enough away from Fentonworks to keep both sightings of the Ghost Assault Vehicle and resultant property damage and property taxes to a minimum. Within walking distance of the high school, a supermarket, and a park.
They kept the fridge and pantry stocked. Their food might not have always been healthy – red meat was an element of almost every meal – but it was always available and filling. They made an effort for the dietary restrictions of Tucker’s friends of course.
All the rooms were kept clean and neat. Even Tucker’s, by way of bribes. Everything was organized, everything had its place. Except, perhaps, for the stray shoe or piece of schoolwork.
But that attic.
It really hadn’t been anything, before Tucker asked if he could move his computer stuff up there. Just a storage space, one too difficult for either Angela or Maurice to climb up there often. They didn’t consider themselves old, but they couldn’t call themselves young either. Not with a son Tucker’s age.
Once Tucker had realized the attic was there, he had been fascinated. And, well, once he was old enough for them to not worry about him falling off the ladder, they let him go up.
Some days, it seemed, he didn’t come down.
Better than his faintly disturbing Ancient Egypt phase, where he kept bringing pictures of mummified corpses to the table. Or, worse, the werewolf phase.
And this was Tucker Foley’s home.
.
Amity Park had claimed the distinction of ‘most haunted town in America’ long before the Fentons opened their portal. In fact, that was the reason the Fentons had set up shop there, in the first place.
No haunted town was complete without at least one haunted house. Amity Park had several. Not to mention a haunted hospital, a selection of haunted schools, a haunted museum, a haunted pool, a haunted crosswalk, a haunted mall, a haunted football field… The list went on, essentially ad nauseum.
Of course, that list mostly consisted of places that became haunted after the Fentons built their portal. But even before then, some places offered their dubious charms to tourists.
Mostly gullible ones. More than half of the claims of hauntings before the portal opened were fraudulent in their entirety. These places quickly went broke and got abandoned when real ghosts started showing up.
One of these was the ominously named Raven House, which stood in the hills on the west edge of town.
The story the tourists of years gone by had been told was that a widower had lived out here, all by himself and that one day, he stopped coming to town, or paying his bills, or even getting his mail. When the mailbox at the end of the long driveway was full, the mailman decided to go check on the widower. What he found was a flock of ravens and a skeleton, entirely picked clean of flesh.
No such death had occurred there, nor in any part of Amity. No such person had ever lived in the house, either. The last owners, before the company that decided to market the house as haunted, were a couple with two children.
It wasn’t until months after the portal started up that it became haunted in truth.
.
“This place isn’t haunted,” said Danny, panning his flashlight over cobwebbed corners on the ceiling. “I don’t think it ever was.”
“That’s what, strike five?” asked Sam.
Danny shrugged. “Yeah, I think so.”
“Four, actually,” said Tucker. “We counted the hospital as inconclusive, since we don’t know if anyone was there before Spectra.”
Danny nodded. “It’s weird, though, isn’t it? That no one lives here, I mean. It looks like a perfectly nice house.”
“Décor’s a bit… eh. Trying to hard to be haunted,” said Tucker, poking a raven decal on the wallpaper.
“I like it,” said Sam. “Needs cleaning, though.”
“Hey,” said Tucker, “you’re not thinking what I think you’re thinking, are you? Because I’m pretty sure that’d be illegal.”
“It isn’t as if anyone else is using the place,” argued Sam. “It could be a great backup hideout, if we ever had to… you know.” She glanced at Danny. “Plus, we’d be doing them a favor, really, keeping things clean and lived in.”
“I think it’s an okay idea,” said Danny.
“Yeah, but you think lots of dumb things are good ideas. Like showing up at a party hosted by people who publicly humiliate you on a regular basis.”
Danny grumbled something about trauma responses that sounded like a direct quote from Jazz and something else about that incident being ages (aka weeks) ago. Then, he brightened.
“We could get one of the little ectoplasm generators to power everything,” he said. “Remember all that stuff we lifted from Skulker and Technus? We could actually use it. Study and test things without worrying about whether our parents will walk in. I mean, your attic is great, but still.”
“Plus, we can have actual lab safety protocols. No offense, Danny.”
“I am the one that half-died in a lab accident, so… None taken.”
Tucker rubbed his chin. “Alright. I suppose I can see the appeal… But if we have stuff that can trace back to us, we could get in serious trouble."
“We’ll be careful, then,” said Sam.
“Anything I take from Mom and Dad has plausible deniability. They’ll assume ghosts stole it.”
“We also need to clean if we’re being serious about this. And get a fridge. And figure out the pluming situation.”
“Fridge is on the list. We have to be careful about the outside, too. If this place is suddenly well maintained, people will notice.”
“Sure, but that isn’t something they’d call the cops over,” said Danny. “They’ll just assume new people are moving in. If anyone sees it at all. We’re pretty far away from anything. But pluming won’t be too hard. We just need to bring our own water. Like, toilets flush using physics. If you dump more water in, they’ll go, no electricity required.”
“How do you know that?”
“I can’t even tell you how many time Mom and Dad blew out all our breakers with stuff in the lab,” said Danny. “You pick up a few things.”
“Well,” said Tucker, swinging his flashlight over to examine a discolored spot on the ceiling. “Then… Home sweet home, I suppose.”
.
There was a house in the hills in the west hills of Amity Park.
And this was the home of two and a half humans and half a ghost.

Dannymay Day 2: Home
Long patrol, buddy?
(I know this isn’t what Danny’s room actually looks like but every time I picture his room in my head while reading fics this is what I visualize, so it was nice to get it out of my head for once)

Dannymay 2023, Day 11: Traditional Media
I had no idea what to do for this one. None.
So enjoy a journal entry from one of my fics:)
Typed text beneath photo. Please enjoy my god awful hand writing:) I tried to make it readable, but, uh, my handwriting began leaning towards my actual writing style the longer I wrote.
Danny has feminine handwriting I guess????
Excerpt from: broken trust and the wounds hidden behind chapter 2 - Beside Me
Name: Fenton Fryer
Function: Severe electrocution
Pain level: 10
Notes: Avoid at all costs. Loss of consciousness within a minute, lucky enough to have crashed on a skyscraper and had the transformation forced. Pain did not improve upon waking. Muscles would not stop spasming. Getting home was hell. Had me down the entire weekend, required three doses of pain medication.
How much longer am I going to survive them?
I wish they’d just try to talk to me. To Phantom. If they would just consider for a moment that maybe they’re wrong and I could finally tell them.
Hell will freeze over before they do that. For now, I think I’ll keep having a bed to sleep on and my insides to stay inside.
Shameless plug to the fic on AO3 -> broken trust - do you like good dad Jack Fenton and angst? It is an overload of good dad Jack Fenton and angst:)

Consequences
DannyMay 2022 Day 2: No One Knows AU
Word Count: 510
AO3 Link
“Hey man, we missed you this weekend,” Tucker called out as Danny raced up the steps of Casper High, trying to catch up with his friends. This was the 3rd movie night in a row he’d had to skip. Eventually Sam and Tucker were going to stop asking him to join.
“Sorry guys. I, uh, had to help my parents clean up the lab, you know, since I got all those detentions last week.” Danny shrugged. It was only half the truth. He had spent 2 hours Saturday evening cleaning up the lab - apparently if you get 3 or more detentions in one week, they call home - but he wasn’t grounded. When he finished, he was free to spend the rest of his Saturday night however he wanted. And he wanted to meet up with his friends to watch the latest Dead Teacher movie. He was even on his way to Tucker’s house when he’d been ambushed by Skulker yet again. After being chased all over town by the demented hunter, it was way too late to show up to movie night and he’d just gone home to get what little sleep he could.
“You could maybe try not having detentions,” Sam joked. “I’m usually all for sticking it to the man, but I think they got the message.” Danny forced a laugh.
“Are you feeling any better?” Tucker added. Danny’s go-to excuse when he had to run out during the day had become having to go to the bathroom. Now everyone thought he had a medical issue.
“Yeah, this week should be better than last.” And he meant it. He’d spent all of Sunday rounding up every ghost he could find so they wouldn’t be out to get him Monday. It was his new, proactive approach.
“Well, if you’re really feeling better, maybe we could hit the mall after school? I need a new sweater after that food fight last week.” Tucker frowned at the replacement sweatshirt he’d been wearing since his favorite sweater got destroyed.
Everyone at school thought it was just a regular food fight even though no one had taken credit for starting it. Unfortunately for Danny, it was anything but normal. The Lunch Lady had shown up again and started throwing food out of the kitchen right in the middle of lunch.
“Sure, the mall sounds fun.” He really hoped he wouldn’t have to cancel again.
It seemed like every time he tried to have a normal moment anymore, a ghost would show up to ruin everything. And if he didn’t get rid of it fast enough, his parents might show up and make everything even worse. He’d had detention multiple times a week from running out of class and breaking every fragile piece of lab equipment, and missed out on invites from his friends for two months now. Nothing like facing the consequences of his own actions. At least he did learn his lesson: no playing around in the lab by himself. Although what’s the worst that could happen anymore, it kills him again?
