Check out the most recent Nuart Journal, where I had the absolute honor of being interviewed by Dr Susan Hansen about Queer Street Art and my film OUT IN THE STREETS. The interview, which is by far the most in-depth I have done about the project, can be found here: Queer Liberation and Street Art: Taking Public Space and Declaring Our Right to Exist.
And here can be found a digital download of the complete issue for free.

As my friend Julian puts it, only half winkingly: "God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason God made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine, so that humanity might share in the act of creation."

The pressure is mounting on Ecuador’s neoliberal government of Daniel Noboa, son of the country’s largest banana plantation owner. Workers’ unions held another large protest against electricity shortages that have resulted in months of constant blackouts.

B’nai Brith Canada is astounded and appalled by the University of Toronto’s refusal to acknowledge its concerns on behalf of the Jewish community about a pair of problematic events scheduled to take place on campus next week.
“We were disappointed, to put it mildly, by the U of T’s response to a letter we sent last week,” said Richard Robertson, B’nai Brith Canada’s Director of Research and Advocacy. “In the wake of the antisemitism that proliferated at the encampment last summer, U of T committed to securing its campus and creating an environment that is safe for all students. The response we received from the university dismissed our valid concerns and did not even express a hint of compassion for Jewish students, who are concerned that the two events next week will further escalate tensions and incite hatred on campus.”
The first of the two planned events is a Nov. 7 appearance by Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the “Occupied Palestinian Territories.” Albanese has repeatedly legitimized the acts of terrorist organizations, including violence against Israeli civilians.
On Nov. 8, anti-Israel radicals intend to host a so-called “Anti-Zionist Ideas Conference.” The panel is set to include Nasser Abourahme, who has described Zionism as “colonialism” and, in doing so, rejects the Jewish people’s ancestral ties to the Land of Israel. Other participants include Daniel Boyarin, who advocates for a no-state solution to the conflict in Israel, effectively calling for the destruction of the world’s only Jewish State.
In response to B’nai Brith’s letter, which cited concerns for the security and well-being of the Jewish community, a spokesperson for U of T President Meric Gertler wrote that the school “does not take positions on contentious social, political or other issues apart from those directly pertaining to higher education and academic research.” The University did not offer any proactive assurances or commitments to mitigate the issues B’nai Brith raised on behalf of Jewish students, faculty and staff.
“Even if U of T feels it cannot stop the events from taking place, it could have done more to acknowledge the bona fide concerns of its Jewish community,” Robertson said. “It could have offered to increase security on campus or committed to monitoring the events for incidents of hate speech or misinformation. Instead, the administration seems disinterested in the impact the events will have on the Jewish members of its community.
“U of T appears to have wiped its hands of the matter, and that is extremely difficult to accept.”

Not only did Weingarten not stand with Jewish activists against the Women’s March antisemitic leaders, but she is a board member of the Americans for Peace Now BDS group whose CEO Hadar Susskind praised Ben & Jerry’s decision to boycott Israel as a “principled moral stance which we fully support”. APN has platformed antisemitic figures like UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese who claimed that America is “subjugated by the Jewish lobby”.
Weingarten’s AFT union has demanded that Israel stop attacking Hamas in a resolution presented with personal support from Randi at a convention where Kamala spoke. The AFT defended the pro-terrorist mobs harassing Jewish students and faculty on campuses.
Randi Weingarten has repeatedly attacked Israel and tweeted a quote claiming that “the Hamas attack was heinous; the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza have been reprehensible.”
Weingarten’s girlfriend, Sharon Kleinbaum, and fellow participant in Jewish Americans for Kamala Harris is even worse. After Kleinbaum read the names of Hamas terrorists alongside fallen Israeli soldiers at the LGBTQ temple she formerly officiated at, congregants left feeling that it had become pro-terrorist. One departing congregant complained that it “was essentially delivering Hamas propaganda. … My partner and I are starting a family and frankly I don’t want to raise my kids in a synagogue that’s praying for people firing rockets.”
Kleinbaum had co-signed a T’ruah letter together with anti-Israel activists urging Biden not to allow Israel to finish off Hamas in Rafah and claimed that Israel cannot “lay the full responsibility for the unimaginable suffering of a massive population of trapped civilians at the feet of Hamas.” The letter also called for Biden to impose sanctions on members of Israel’s government.
Weingarten and Kleinbaum are not outliers at Jewish Americans for Kamala Harris.
Sharon Brous of IKAR, profiled by Variety as a “trendy, progressive congregation”whose wealthy congregants include Steven Spielberg and appears to have some link to Kamala’s husband, is also on the list. Brous had attacked the Jewish State before the Oct 7 attacks, including in a hateful Yom Kippur address, claiming that “there can be no democracy with occupation.”

🇵🇸 … the utter destruction caused by constant bombing and shelling is beyond what the brain can imagine!!
By: LaillaB, founder of ‘Reclaim the Narrative’, from LinkedIn …
“Satellite images show the before and after Israel’s carpet bombing of Gaza's al-Shifa Hospital and its surroundings.
The aerial footage, collected and released by Maxar Technologies, reveal the scale of destruction following the aggressor’s siege on the complex.
The occupation forces destroyed the buildings housing the kidney and maternity wards, mortuary refrigerators, and cancer and burn facilities, and destroyed the outpatient clinic building.
The occupation announced that it had “arrested top Hamas officials” during its raid on Al-Shifa Hospital.
A photo collage released by the army showed that Al-Qassam Brigades leader Raed Saad was among the detainees.
In a press conference, the Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari boasted of detaining “very significant” senior Hamas commanders, according to The Times of Israel.
A security official in the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas, however, said in an interview with Al-Jazeera that “the list of detainees’ photos at Al-Shifa Hospital released by the spokesperson of the occupation army is inaccurate.”
“Some of the photos on the list belong to individuals currently outside Gaza, and other photos are of martyrs,” the official continued, noting that “three of the photos on the list are of doctors previously released by the occupation.”
According to Hamas, the reports “about the arrest of dozens of resistance leaders at Al-Shifa Hospital are false.”
“What is published in the Hebrew media is inaccurate and is part of the psychological and moral warfare against the resistance in Gaza,” the official concluded.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli official announcement that Saad was arrested in the Al-Shifa Medical Hospital turned out to be false.
In a joint statement, the occupation forces and the Shin Bet admitted that “due to human error, there are several photos in the graphic of terrorists who have not yet been caught.”
“A few more (photos) were added by mistake,” Yedioth Ahronoth also reported.
Al Shifa was established 78 years ago during the British Mandate, the name Shifa meaning 'Healing’;
✍🏻 … A massive symbol of the heartless, cynical Israeli politics of colonial occupation with the goal of elimination of the Palestinian people, their social institutions and their lives.
US, EU, UK governments stand shamed, complicit by their support for Israeli war crimes and atrocities against all humanity.
Watch carefully the killing fields of Shifa, never ever forget the Gaza genocide, the perpetrators, and the complicit powers.
Dr. Mads Gilbert 🇳🇴 ⛑️ 16 years service at the Al Shifa. Posted on X, 1 April, 2024.
“Israel’s actions have been driven by a genocidal logic integral to its settler colonial project in Palestine, signalling a tragedy foretold” Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur, March 2024.

YA Books about 🇦🇹 Austria
List of Austria books for the YA World Challenge.
It's been quite a while since I did a country-themed list. This one has been sitting in the drafts for a while.
I have discovered that YA books in English featuring Austria consist of only 3 categories:
WW2 (sometimes WW1)
Empress Sisi (interchangeable with Marie Antoinette or Nannerl Mozart)
Eva Ibbotson
And that's it. Well, I'm kidding, but it almost seems like it. Here's the little list I came up with. Feel free to suggest any I missed - I mostly search through Goodreads to find these so the list is prone to mistakes and omissions!

Political leaders: Does faith matter?
Political leaders: Does faith matter?
Today Australia is awash with politicians who identify or are identified as Catholic. Anthony Albanese is a Catholic. Down the Eastern seaboard, the three state premiers, Dominic Perrottet (NSW), Daniel Andrews (Victoria) and Peter Malinauskas (SA) are Catholics. There are many other high-profile Catholics at ministerial level and as opposition leaders. Others, like Queensland Premier, Anastacia…

English, dead carrier s/on @0358z then ID@0359z pips and newsday preview. @0401z World News anchored by Danielle Jalowiecka. § At least 19 people have been killed in an overnight Israeli strike in the designated humanitarian zone in southern Gaza, the Hamas-run health ministry says. Witnesses said the strike obliterated an area crowded with tents for displaced Palestinians in al-Mawasi, south-west of Khan Younis, leaving huge craters in the sand. “The bombing was incredibly intense. People were thrown into the air,” one displaced man told the BBC. “You can’t imagine the devastation.” The Israeli military said its aircraft attacked what it called “a number of senior Hamas terrorists” operating there, a claim Hamas denied. § An extendable robot began on Tuesday a two-week mission to retrieve the first sample of melted fuel debris from inside one of three damaged reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Highly radioactive fuel and other materials in the reactors melted when a massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011 damaged the plant’s cooling systems. § Australia plans to set a minimum age limit for children to use social media citing concerns about mental and physical health, sparking a backlash from digital rights advocates who warn the measure could drive dangerous online activity underground. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his centre-left government would run an age verification trial before introducing age minimum laws for social media this year. Albanese didn't specify an age but said it would likely be between 14 and 16. "I want to see kids off their devices and onto the footy fields and the swimming pools and the tennis courts," Albanese told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. § Russian officials say they shot down 144 Ukrainian drones around the country overnight in a wave of attacks that have killed one woman, set residential buildings on fire and grounded flights in Moscow. The governor of Moscow, Andrei Vorobyov, said several flats in two high-rise apartment buildings in Ramenskoye in Moscow region were set on fire. § Nearly 200 environmental and land defenders around the world were murdered in 2023, with Colombia once again the deadliest place for activists, watchdog Global Witness said in a report. The report also sounds the alarm on a “crackdown on environmental activists across the UK, Europe and the US”, warning “laws are increasingly being weaponised against defenders”. § More than 1,700 prisoners are being let out early in England and Wales today as part of a government scheme to deal with overcrowding. The prison population in England and Wales hit 88,521 last week, an all-time high, and Keir Starmer says the situation is at "crisis point". § The United States did not give any sort of concessions to Nicaragua in exchange for the release of more than 100 political prisoners last week, an official said on Monday. "There were no exchanges or concessions made," Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Eric Jacobstein, said in a press conference. Jacobstein said that the administration of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega continued to imprison its citizens for political reasons and urged the leader to free them. § American actor James Earl Jones, best known for being the voice of the Star Wars villain Darth Vader, has died aged 93. He died early on Monday morning surrounded by his family, agent Barry McPherson said. @0406z "Newsday" begins.
