I have never played any of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but now I want to play it just so I can romance Dimitri. A tall, blond, and handsome prince who becomes a feral murder hobo you can fix? You had me at “prince”.

Plus, I’m a sucker for anything that makes for a good Beauty and the Beast AU.

It’s a little bit more complicated than that. Tbh I started to resent AUs like that because it paints Dimitri and Byleth with a broad brush. Dimitri and Byleth both save each other. It’s not just fixing a feral hobo man. In part 1 Dimitri helps Byleth slowly open up and discover their humanity. In part 2 Dimitri is a sad broken man and Byleth helps him remember he is a man not a monster. There is a lot of nuance and the fandom boiled it to “I can fix him” ship or constant horny stuff that I don’t vibe with. I used to laugh at some of the jokes 2 years ago but now I actually find it so overdone it’s beyond parody and misses the point why I love them.

No offense to you, I actually had a conversation like this with a friend recently about how much we feel people miss the point about why Edel*eth and Dimi*leth are great ships. And it just rubs us both the wrong way.

Dimitri is actually a really complex character. Too complex for the writers tbh, all the 3H characters are. I love the characters a lot. The discourse and exaggerations I see sadly made me worn out on 3H content. I still have a huge place in my heart for them tho.

A request by @danguy96 in the form of tribute piece to the late Akira Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball among others.

Depicting the characters of Toriyama, Goku from Dragonball/Z and Arale from Dr. Slump, being comforted by Astro Boy and Superman. It's meant to be a duel-comfort, with Astro Boy representing creator Osamu Tezuka (to whom Akira succeeded as a major influence in Anime/Manga), and Superman as a representative of the West.

This was something I wanted to do well one, going as far as to best capture the inking style of Akira with a bit of the coloring style he did with my own personal stylistic liberties mixed in.

I'm not unique to say that my childhood and young life had been influenced by Akira's work. Dragonball Z in particular shaped the media I enjoy, the stories I love, and the characters I look up to and admire. I, like so many creatives/artists, were inspired by the his stories - and I hope that Toriyama knew how much it meant to so many around the world.

About that thing with Tim Drake and DC poorly handling his bisexuality, I kind of came up with this story idea that started off as basically an excuse to kill off Bernard and Jay Nakamura, but also evolved into an idea of wanting a story to respond to Fitzmartin’s Dark Crisis story. I'm not familiar enough with Danganronpa to speak to that, but I generally do like the meta commentary "comics talking about comics" angle - there was a DC story that ran as backups in Tales of the Unexpected where a team of characters who DC put on a list as being off-limits in the post-Infnite Crisis DCU fought to preserve their existence against figures who just happened to resemble the writers of 52.

The one thing I would caution against is actually killing off the teen characters, especially in a Battle Royale-type scenario. Avengers Arena already did that and it wasn't very well-received at all.

Using Joker-Mite or some other entity with enough power to ensure that any deaths can be easily reversed (the Master of Games from the Teen Titans cartoon, perhaps?) is probably a smart move, compared to using someone like Roulette as the gamemaster. Her games tend to be more permanently deadly in nature.

Here’s another two pieces of art drawn by @boggleseal/ @effae for my Charlie and the Chocolate Factory retelling, this time depicting scenes from my hypothetical retool of the musical version (I’m very grateful she decided to depict my versions of the deleted characters, Marvin Prune and Miranda Mary Piker, since she did something similar with her versions of the characters).

If you want to read the long version of what’s going in both drawings, I suggest you read up the parts describing them in my ideas for my “dream retool”. For the short version of each:

For Marvin Prune (described as being a “very conceited boy”, by Roald Dahl, so I re-imagined him as being a vapid teen celebrity), he’s being interviewed by the press on his finding of a Golden Ticket, and they’re disturbing him right in the middle of his “beauty rest”.

For Miranda, her interview goes a little out of hand, and it suddenly turns into a number similar to that of “The Hammer” from Matilda the Musical, complete with a military riding crop turning into a gymnastic ribbon (and yes, as some of you who follow me know, she is related to Agatha Trunchbull, explaining her tyrannical nature and obsession with school and rules).

Didn’t somebody make an edit of his Star Wars comic which gave the real reasons why the actors were harassed? With them adding in that the media played a big part in Ahmed Best and Jake Lloyd’s harassment? I’m trying to find it, but for the love of me I can’t.

Did some digging and found it. Don’t think I ever made a post on it, it was a reply to one of his Twitter accounts.

So, I’ve finally decided to watch Fairy Tail, so, as a newcomer could you please give me some info and pointers about this show?

Hmmm not sure how much you want me to indulge without spoiling everything, so let me just give you a generalized rundown of the series

1. Fairy Tail is flawed

By GOD is it flawed! This series is my darling, but I’m not blind enough to think it’s perfect. Sometimes the pacing can go too fast. Sometimes something interesting is introduced only for the execution to fall flat. Sometimes characterizations don’t go in a way you were hoping to because Status Quo Is God. Sometimes it’s just not that great.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been to FT’s TVTropes page, but I wouldn’t be surprised if their YMMV page is a mile long lmao

2. There is fanservice

If you like big anime tiddies then you’re in luck! Mashima likes big anime tiddies too because they sell lmao.

Sometimes it can be too much (I’ve seen people leave the fandom because they just got so sick of the fanservice) but as someone who was reading Soul Eater before picking up FT...it honestly didn’t bother me. It could be annoying, yes, but I had become so desensitized to it I’ve just learned to go with it.

3. Sometimes it’s Not That Deep™

Yeah...the fandom liked to get their hopes up about a lot of things. Like...a lot of things. And then it turns out it wasn’t all that big of a deal to the plot and therefore wasn’t explored to the extent it probably could have. You just have to watch/read to judge for yourself if you actually like it or not

4. The anime can be....eh

The first anime at least (idk the details but they changed the staff around and the anime got a different art style in 2014)

Like...I don’t like the FT anime. It just wasn’t for me when I was initially watching it. I didn’t like some of the things they added. I didn’t like how BRIGHT the first incarnation was. I didn’t like how they handled some scenes. I didn’t like the filler arcs (except Key of the Starry Sky Arc...that one wasn’t all that bad I guess but I still have my problems with it)

However, despite my misgivings for it, it is a pretty solid adaptation, so it’s cool if you stick to the anime and forgo the manga

5. The Power of Friendship™ is real and you WILL like it!

By all accounts and purposes these assholes should have been dead a long time ago but by golly were they gonna persevere because they just LOVE THEIR FRIENDS SO FUCKING MUCH

And the last generalization...

6. Fairy Tail is flawed...but it can be good

Despite the flaws, there are very good messages in this series. Fairy Tail helped me grow a lot as a person just because of Mashima’s heartfelt messages about friendship and love and forgiveness. The characters are lovable, and you can’t help but just...care about the story and where it could go next.

Can it be cliched and cheesy? Oh hell yes. Is it endearing? Well, depends on who you ask, but I think it is.

So, regardless of what happened, what are your current favorite ships in Code Geass right now?

Given I’ve seen up to episode six of the second season, all of my favorite ships are either sunk are their odds aren’t looking so hot at this point.

I don’t think I can find a new ship for the second half; I’m still not over how one of the ships in the first half ended. Oh, the pain of losing Euphie still stings… 🥲

This commission by @chillguydraws​ is a representation of @danguy96​‘s Zayla Ren a.k.a. Ki’ara, one of the villains in his Star Wars Sequel Trilogy rewrite project. When Dan approached asked me to get this made for him, I was a bit skeptical as his Tumblr post was all I had for reference. This changed when he shared enough references (courtesy of EyeOfSemicolon and Midori) and backstory for this character that sold me on the idea. Feel free to hit Dan up for more information.

1/2 A friend of mine said this, but in hindsight, DreamWorks really shouldn’t have made a She-Ra cartoon if they didn’t currently use the rights to He-Man, since it removes half the lore and worldbuilding material, which this show desperately needed, and to paraphrase what they said, it’s like making a Supergirl show, but you can’t reference or explain anything which debuted in Action Comics or a Superman story. Not even Krypton.

2/2 And it’s likely we’ll never get further future elaborations on Eternia or Grayskull, since the next two He-Man shows are being produced in-house by Mattel (one is even being showrun by Kevin Smith), and Mattel barely seems to care about Nu-Rab(the toys are only sold at Target, and they barely promoted the show, which was dumped onto Netflix over the course of a year and a few months). Plus, we were robbed of cute brother-sister interactions between Adam and Adora.

To be real fuckin honest. 

I think that was my biggest disappointment going into the show, was the announcement that it wouldn’t have any connection to the rest of Masters of the Universe. I had never seen the original She-Ra or He-Man before, but when spop was announced I watched a good chunk of both to see what I would be getting myself into, and I was actually incredibly excited. The pacing, animation, and plot were a mess, but the atmosphere was great and the plot could have really been something special if reworked a bit with modern day story and animation quality.  There would have been such a good opportunity to take advantage of that expansive lore, but it had to be entirely self-contained which did not help at all with how small the world felt. And even with the characters they had, they squandered them either on gags (hello Tung Lashur), plot points (hello Flutterina), or were completely stripped of their character (hello Sea Hawk). 

There were a lot of things from the OG She-Ra that would have been great moments in the new show if they were expanded and refined. I liked that Adora was a force captain in the beginning and it took some serious convincing on Adam’s part to get her to question Shadow Weaver and eventually break from her spell. Imagine Force Captain Adora, the woman who has personally oppressed the people of Etheria, suddenly changing sides and needing to actually deal with those actions and convince the Etherians that she’s on their side! Imagine fleshing out the rebellion, that started out as a ragtag group of survivors from Etheria! Imagine it!

But in the reboot we get Adora changing sides almost immediately and never really having to deal with any personal involvement in the Horde’s misdeeds. And the most we ever see of any regular civilians is in the Generic Villages and those three people that work in Entrapta’s palace. 

AND YEAH WE WERE ROBBED OF THAT BROTHER-SISTER RELATIONSHIP!! My cynical theory is that Kyle was created specifically to take a jab at Adam, because for the amount that he’s belittled, mocked, and overall shit upon, there’s no way he wasn’t created to spite someone.

Just thought of some dumb idea. Minilla looks at Dr. Graham and lets out a little roar which could be roughly translated as “mama”, and he looks at Mothra and also lets out the roar which basically means mama. Then he takes at Goji himself, and after a bit of silence, Minilla lets out a roar which, loosely translated, means “Not the mama”.
