Personally, I'd give it to Akise

(for a variety of spoiler-tastic reasons...)

Akise vs. Saihara. Who could you see winning that particular detective battle? Both of them are exactly as they seem at the outset of the plot with their own lives separate from certain story twists later on, so as avoid any "you aren't really who you think you are" shenanigans that could lead to outside help from their 'creators' (or that could be used as a psychological warfare tactic by one of them on the other). They're merely competing to see who solves a difficult mystery first.

Well, at the start of their respective stories, Aru Akise is full of a content confidence in himself and his future, whereas Shuichi Saihara is very much loaded with doubt about his “Ultimate” title as well as his overall capabilities. I think that would be a key factor that would push it into Akise’s favor.

Furthermore, consider how uncertain Shuichi is of his conclusions in those first few chapters of V3 - even though he knows the parties involved and was not that far from the action. Akise is a distant observer or outright absent for the first few chapters of Future Diary, yet when he rolls into the scene in full, he’s already (correctly!) surmised quite a bit from his own observations as well as public information from happenings like the Omakata cult incident. I think Shuichi would be at his level by, say, Chapter 5 of V3, but it takes him quite a while to get there.

(It’s funny how you vaguely referenced their “secret reveals” from later in the narrative, given that they both suffer from a severe case of [allegedly] false memories — another point of commonality between them!)
