Damon stood with his arms around his girl’s waist as she finished her makeup in the mirror. His chin on top her head as he watched as she layered the romantic red lipstick onto her soft plump lips. He could only hope to have their prints all over him by later that night as she looked herself over.

“You look perfect” he mumbled when she frowned a little and tilted her head. “There’s absolutely nothing I would change, in fact although the makeup has you looking all this much sexier, even without you wear the face of an angel” he purred seeing her lips lift into a smile and her head turn to look at him.

“I’d say flattery gets you no where but it seems to have gotten you rather far as of now” she lifted her arms over his head and round his neck while batting her lashes as him. He pulled her closer so his lips ghosted hers and his eyes dropped at the feeling of her fingers in his hair.

“I only tell the truth to you” he whispered gravelly and she hummed in reply, scratching at his head slowly knowing how it affected him. His eyes shut and pressed his forehead to hers “god I love you” he muttered and her smile grew

“I love you Damon Salvatore” she grinned and he tilted his head slightly to have his lips against hers. He allowed her to take the lead, moving her mouth against his and Brighton’s her other hand up to cup his face as both his hands slid up her back to hold the tops of her arms.

“You’re going to ruin my hair” he muttered and she laughed lightly against his lips before pulling back to look at him, her fingers running through each lock

“I like it messy” she decided before brushing it through with her hands and positioning it in a way that she found suited him best. His eyes glossed over as he watched her loving smile and felt her gentle touches. Her fingertips dances down the back of his neck and round to the front before she adjusted his leather, pulling it tighter on him and wetting her painted lips. Her palms smoothed down his chest, her deep red nails dragging down his black t-shirt before pulling up the hem only to groan at his display of abs. Her thumb tracing his happy trail and stopping at the top of his low-hanging jeans. Her fingers skimming over his belt in a teasing manner.

“Y/n…” he muttered feeling his body getting aroused by her actions “we have a reservation”he reminded, a breath of air leaving him as her hand cupped his crotch through his trousers “baby…” he whispered “you can almost never get a table there”

She sighed and gave him a light squeeze, listened to him grunt and then fixed his shirt and stepped back admiring him “okay…but after…” she pouted and he nodded eagerly

“After you can do anything you want.”

“Anything?”

“Anything.”

She bit her bottom lip gently and held her hand out which he quickly took with a lustful smirk in place.

He kept a hand in hers the whole drive there, only breaking the hold for a second as they got out the car before an arm was back round her hips. She smoothed her cherry coloured dress down, adjusting it to rest a little lower on her thighs as it had ridden up in the car. His gaze dropped to her heels which make a distinct ‘click’ with each step she took. His eyes followed back up her gorgeous legs, along her beautiful figure and back to her face. Watching as she spoke to the waiter at the front who was finding their reservation in the system with a bashful blush on his cheeks as she flashed her pearly white teeth. Damon knew how easy it was to get lost in her charm.

He was barely aware of the world around them as he followed her to their table by the window, overlooking the sunset which was already meeting the stary night sky. Menus were slipped into both their hands and wine glasses filled as though the staff just knew what they would order.

She looked to him with admiration in her eyes and his lips curled up “I can’t believe you managed to book us in here” she whispered and he smiled back

“I can’t believe you almost had us miss our time slot, we only just made it”

“I’m sure I would’ve made up for it”

his mouth formed a lip lifted grin in response and he glanced down to his wine glass “I don’t doubt that, not for even a second” he muttered under his breath and she offered him another award winning smile which consequently brought his own upon his lips.

Her foot slipped out of her heel to leisurely brush along his leg as their food came and they engaged in pointless yet meaningful conversation and ate their meals. And for one of those rare moments, he felt like he was human again. He felt no urges, no lust for blood or chaos, he was calm. Happy.

He loved Y/n in ways he had never explored. Ways he wasn’t sure how to but he did them regardless and if he was doing it wrong, she didn’t tell him. She just helped him feel it, she chose him first and loved him and solely him and it was all he had ever wanted. All he had ever needed.

His mind often wondered at times like this, just listening to her voice and watching her lips move, and then the way her eyes would shine under the light and her hair would bounce over her shoulders as she waved her hands around in unnecessary gestures.

He knew he was smiling like a teenage boy with a crush but he couldn’t help it, even when she stopped talking and just grinned back at him knowingly. Her hand finding his and squeezing gently as their desserts were placed before them.

“If you’d like…we could skip dessert” Damon whispered suggestively making her smile

“Oh but then we’d have wasted our reservation” she sighed and leaned back in her seat, digging into her sweet dish and watching his eyes darken over slightly before he looked down to his food and begrudgingly ate the heavenly portion.

By the time they had both finished, paid and gotten to the door, a horrific amount of rain was bouncing off the ground.

Y/n turned her head to him before swiping the car keys from his hand and dashing for car making him let out a laugh and chase after her, completely forgetting his vampire abilities and just managing to get into the car before she locked it. Both of them looked at each other with large smiles on their faces before each bursting into fits of laughed and flicking their hands at one another to throw rain-water on their faces.

Eventually they got home and Damon had he run his arms, spinning in circles and running for the ridiculously big bathtub so they could soak together in the warmth of both the water and each others arms.

Teasingly, he begins to slow down, taking his time to savour this moment and savour this feeling, velvety walls squeezing him just right. So right it was almost painful, leaving him to want to chase that relief. But not yet.

When he was turned he lost any faith he once had, but you, you made him believe that there must be something, anything out there. Moving from his upper back right up to his hair, you give a gentle tug, a plea for more. Stefan has never been one to deny you, and so he leans closer. The intimate moment becomes rough once more, breath ragged and he chases your high and his. 

“I know, sweetheart, I got you,” lips crash onto yours, sheets intertwine in your fingers and your head forces itself back into the pillow. “God, you feel so good, fuck, could stay in you all day” he doesn’t care that you don’t reply. Actually, he enjoys the fact that you're struggling to stop your moans and high pitch whimpers enough to speak to him. 

And then he feels it, the way you spasm on the inside and come undone, the way you tug his ‘hero hair’ and tighten your legs to bring him in, the way your every instinct is to suck him in and bring him closer, deeper. For a moment my heart stopped beating, ceasing its respective function entirely. My hands clenched into tight fists.

The inevitable confrontation. It had come sooner than I expected it to.

My sister, accompanied by the spawns of satan walked through the front door. 

They would certainly not let her walk into danger alone! My brain commented sarcastically. 

Some, –mostly the elderly or mothers that had marriageable sons– would say that my sister looked like an angel sent by the Gods. This chapter of our lives had completely reassessed that statement. Elena was no angel if she walked right besides him. 

Why was she here? To exact revenge? Make a statement? Tell me to pack my things and leave? Lecture me on how I should pick my friends? Those were the only options. Because, what was there left to say besides that? 

My sister, who I loved so much, the only biological family I had left, the only person who had seen me grow up and become who I am today. For better and for worse. Wasn’t on my side anymore. 

What was left of our family was a mess. 

I took a sharp breath. Enough was enough. I would not let her or the vampire she pretended not to love shove me around anymore. 

My throat closed up, and I glanced  at the wine bottle, left on the coffee table. I drank from the bottle itself without a second thought. 

Why should I care about how I look in my own home? 

I remember the nights when Elena went  to parties while I stayed at home. And the moments when she came home drunk and barely able to stand straight. She’d only gotten a slap to the wrist before mom told her to get to bed and sleep the alcohol away. 

When did I become the one to day drink alone? 

My mother had always called me the more empathetic of the two of us, and maybe I would have shown some semblance of empathy towards my sister, if she had the guts to confront me on her own. 

She did not. 

Damon freaking Salvatore with his icy blue eyes and a creepy behavior towards minors, stood there with his signature mock expression. 

How could she bring him here, to our home? After all that he had done to me? To her? To Caroline?To Bonnie? Had she really thought that this would be the smoothest way to approach me? With this particular vampire on her heels?!

Not a chance.

Elena opened her mouth to say something, her hands locked in front of her chest. Was my sister nervous? I didn't know and I certainly didn't care enough to know. At that moment I couldn’t feel much of anything towards my sister. 

“Hello lovely sister! How has your day been?” I did not stand there, turning on my heels, I walked towards the kitchen. “Please, let yourself in. Although I would prefer that you'd leave the dog outside. I've just cleaned up, you see.” 

I knew that the sarcasm couldn’t bring anything good, but holy god it felt good to show my distaste for once.  

I disposed of the half empty bottle into the trash can. 

“Well, well. The kitten has claws.” 

Damon's comment was ignored. By me and my sister it seemed. 

“I know that you are angry, and I’m really sorry how all this turned out–”  

“So tell me Elena,” my tone dripped with sarcasm, “how exactly did you hope it would have gone? I’m genuinely interested.”  

But I didn’t get a response from her, because like I expected she didn’t have one, at least one that didn’t have the possibility of me dying in the hands of the Original family. Because there wasn’t such a possibility that I had gotten the daggers and survived.  

“You hooking up with Klaus, until you have wrapped him around your finger that he has no choice than to save you, that was the first draft of the plan. But you fucking Elijah too was just a nice addition, so good work with that,” Damon spoke way too calmly and somehow dared to give me a thumbs up.  

People often talked about seeing red, and in all honesty, I never knew what it really meant. But if it was real and not something that the poets and writers made up…, this must have been what it felt like. An anger unlike anything that I had felt ever before. Was this the feeling that people felt right before killing someone, because at that moment I really wanted to kill Damon Salvatore in our living room.  

“I’ve always wanted you to be safe Y/N, you know that.”

My breathing was shaky, too much for my liking. Maybe that was the reason why I felt like I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t look at them, I couldn’t look at the man that I wanted to murder so badly, and my sister...oh my dear sister, who would rather side with him than me. Her family.

I stood up slowly, making sure that I wouldn’t trip, I walked to the kitchen and finally turned my back to them. I lowered my eyes to the counter and took a deep breath.  

But I could feel Damon’s stupid smirk and my sister finally looking at me.

One my hand, two my shirt, three the counter top, four the oven next to me, five the knife block. 

Knife block...  

God, I want to hurt him, but I would never be fast enough to get close to him, I wouldn’t get a scratch to his skin.  

“Damon! Don't be an ass!” Elena whisper yelled to the vampire.  

“Yeah, Damon don’t be an ass...,” I repeated and slowly turned around to see the couple standing in the living room too close to each other for my taste. I leaned on the counter and finally in a long time I looked Damon in  the eyes.  

“Don’t abuse your brother, or Caroline, or Elena. Don’t compel people to be in a relationship that they do not want to be in. Don’t kill your family members. Don’t kill innocent people just because you are sad. Don’t compel me to fuck people that I do not want to fuck...,”  

I pulled away from Damon’s icy eyes and turned to look at my sister who looked to be in shock from my words. I could see tears forming in her eyes but the empathy hadn’t sunk in yet. 

“But don’t be an ass, works too...,” I shrugged. 

I hadn’t known Damon as long as Elena had, but one thing that I had picked up on, was that Damon had to say the last word...always.  

“Oh, come on, we all know that you had a thing for them long before this thing, so don’t blame me for your inability to understand how relationships work.”  

My hold on the counter tightened and the need to throw anything towards Damon got stronger. Maybe my death would be worth it if I got to stab Damon Salvatore first.  

“Did you say that to Caroline too?” I asked, biting the inside of my lip until I tasted blood in my mouth.  

And somehow, Damon fucking Salvatore had the fucking nerves to roll his eyes!  

Deep breaths. 

I took a step to the side and silently pulled a knife out of the knife block and hid it behind my back.

“Hey, why don’t we all just calm down?” Whispered my sister, clearly wanting to break the tension in the room. Her hand slithered against Damon’s arm and I wanted to throw up. I held the air in my lungs, letting the burn take over my body. 

I took a few steps closer to them, closer to Damon than Elena and I let myself breathe the precious air again.  

If I was going to die today, with  the hands of Damon Salvatore, at least I could try to break the rose-colored glasses on my sister’s head. 

But I couldn’t look at her watery eyes. They reminded me of the time she had fallen and gotten a bruise on her knee. And I held her while she cried until dad came with a band-aid.  

“Did you want me to die?” I asked as softly as my rage could contain. 

Damon didn’t say a word but gently shook his arm out of my sister’s hold. He was a lot taller than me, but it didn't even bother me.  

“Did.you.want.me.to.die?” I asked again, this time voice louder and my tone clipped. 

“Or do you not want to tell the truth because Elena? Do you think she would forgive you after admitting that you wanted me to die?” 

That was the button... 

With a human speed his arm reached for my throat but somehow, I was quicker than him.  

The blade sank through his stomach and his hand stopped mid movement.  

I heard Elena gasping and Damon grunting while bending in pain.  

This wasn’t enough...  

I twisted the knife inside Damon feeling the blood trickling down my hand and dropping to the wooden floor. Mom had always talked about how important it was to keep hardwood floors clean.  

I heard my own name slipping between Elena’s lips but I didn’t turn to look at her. I don’t think I could ever look at her...  

Damon let out a painful sounding moan and I twisted the blade again.  

Slowly, painfully slowly for even my own taste I pulled the knife out of the vampire, letting it fall past my fingers and hitting the floor.  

I heard my name again but I paid no mind to it. Watching the blood on my hand was hypnotizing...  

Had Klaus felt like this when he hurt Damon last night? Had he felt this euphoric last night? 

“You little shit...” Damon mumbled while Elena tried to cover the bloody wound with her hands. I took a step away from the vampire and the doppelgänger and to my delight they allowed it.  

And slowly with steps quickening with every second I walked out of the front door slamming it and ending Elena’s yells. The sunny and warm sky was the most comforting thing in a long time. The warmth that I hadn’t felt even in my own bed with a teary face.  

I let the sun wash over my skin for a second before taking a quick look back to the house. And then down to my feet, which were only covered by socks...  

I couldn’t think... I couldn’t think of what I had just done. 

My legs were shaking due to the adrenaline taking over my body. I shoved my bloody hand to my pocket, just in case someone saw me. And I didn’t want to see the blood of Damon covering my hand and trickling to the asphalt. I’m not sure if I can ever watch my hand without the feeling of warm blood covering it.  

My head was banging in pain. Was it for the scene that I had just witnessed?  

I knew that he would be fine. Most likely he was healed before I took a step outside. But still, I had done it. What was I worth if I acted just like the people who I criticize? Sure, I wasn’t a murderer but that is not a very high standard to be reached.

The road was empty and I could feel the cold ground under me. Last night the ground had frozen, but I hadn’t paid attention to the fact that I had more important things to look after.   

This is better, not thinking about it. I need a distraction, I need one right now. 

Right fucking now... 

Maybe this was a good moment to look for those five things.  

I looked around the now darkening sky. The trees that were losing their leaves so fast.  

One the orange and red shade leaves.  

Two my feet are only covered in a pair of socks.

Three the blood on my sleeve.  

The blood, the fucking blood on my shirt. The blood covered arm that was shoved in my pocket. How have the people in this town killed so many people and seemed to have no remorse for it.

I’m not sure when I decided my direction but it happened mostly without a conscious choice. But I knew I couldn’t go home not now. And Caroline and Bonnie would most likely judge me more than I could handle right now. How could I ever look at them after all this.  

And how would I even survive with the wrath that Damon could show me. He had killed people from a lot less than stabbing him.

The house was the most comforting sight in a long time. I walked up the few stairs, legs shaking dangerously for my balance. I tucked my bloodied hand from my pocket. I took one deep breath before knocking on the door.  

My hand fell against my side, fuck I was tired. For a moment everything was silent, and for that small moment I forgot the blood and the sight of Damon’s face looking at me ready for a murder. And I could almost feel a smile pulling on the corner of my mouth.  

Klaus looked as amazing as always and I couldn’t stop the smile from blooming on my cheeks. 

The hybrid shared a smile with me before taking a good look at my form.  

My form without shoes and jacket, and my hand being covered with a layer of blood.  

I heard my name but I couldn’t find anything to say.  

“What happened, love?”  

My smile fell and I took a step closer to him.  

“Whose blood is that?” There was a weird panic in his voice but it made my heart only beat faster with something I could not name. I took one more step closer until we were chest to chest. I needed to be closer to him. I needed him, like a human needs air. Like a vampire needs blood.  

“I stabbed Damon Salvatore...”

Damon's love language is physical touch. He's always trying to find a way to touch you. He gets super jealous if anyone touches you in some way, even if it's a simple brush of hands.

Damon worships you; he sometimes jokes around . If you walk into a room that he's in, he goes down on his knees and says soft words: 'my saviour'. If he gets horny (which is easily) he'll say 'I pray to be in you right now.' He's not usually the religious type because of how the church disgusts people like him but he'll definitely do a little roleplay in bed. ;)

If you and damon ever get into an argument he'll never break first because he thinks he's always right. He will definitely keep a grudge until you say sorry first. He'll hardly say it but if it's been too long and he misses you he'll say it just to kiss you. You're usually the one saying it first.

Damon would do anything for you; he'll travel the whole entire world to find something that you need because your his priority.

Damon worries about you every day, you're a mere human unfortunately. Thus, if any vampires, hybrids, werewolves or any other mystical beings try to kill you or turn you he'll protect you at all costs.

Damon thinks you're the most beautiful girl he's ever lay eyes on. Therefore, you occasionally catch him staring at you with a charming grin that makes your cheeks turn pink.

Damon made a vow to you that he'll never kill a human being again. Which is extremely hard for someone like Damon who's only way of living is to feast on mortals. Not even blood bags will suffice the hunger he has once he hears or sees a drop of blood. Hence, if his hunger is stronger you'll always try and give some of your blood to him even if he refuses multiple times.

• He gets so possessive over you, not an unbearable amount, but enough that everyone knows you're off limits.

• Speaking of possessiveness, if you're a human and let him, he will gladly bite you. Not enough to drink your blood if you don't want him too, but enough to leave a nice mark so everyone knows your his. He loves seeing them scattered along your pretty body.

• If you're a human and a little weird, in a good way, I promise and later in your relationship offer him your blood. He might just get on one knee and marry you right then. Your Elijah metas reminded of a discussion I had with a mutual a while ago on a what if scenario. So basically the two of us were discussing our own hc on genderbent Stefan Salvatore and my mutual was a major Elijah stan and it had her wondering how would the two of them workout.

For the sake of this discussion lets call her Stefanie. And the scenario is if Stefanie met Elijah as before canon (the 20s?) and in canon but Stelena weren't dating.

The stuff that I am most curious about are :

Which one of them warms upto to the other first and what is it draws them towards eachother? What hobby do they particularly bond over?

What would be Elijah's reaction to what Katherine had done to her when she was human?

What personality traits about eachother would they adore and which one would they dislike?

Would Elijah be surprised that for the Ripper Of Monterey, she's the exact opposite in person, as vampires like that aren't often to come by? Would he have helped her blood addiction issues before Klaus popped up?

If it turned into a love triangle, would Stefanie really nope out considering what happened the last time it happened? And how would they really navigate Klaus & rest of the family + Damon?

Let's say somehow they managed to crossover to TO, how would things fall into place & what changes? Do you think they'd ever go three way relationship with Hayley?

Most importantly, would they be able to overcome their family/sibling trauma and go separate ways? I think Stefan(ie) has stayed away from Damon more as their relationship was openly antagonist vs the forced co-dependency with the Mikaelsons, so perhaps it's her who suggests and encourages it. Or do you think it's Elijah who does it first?

I've never really thought about Elijah and Stefan (or Stefanie) romantically. I think they may be too similar in all of the wrong aspects.

One issue is that neither of them are the pursuers in the relationship. As you pointed out in a previous post, it's a little strange for Stefan to have pursued Elena in Season 1. We don't see him like that for any other relationship. Caroline had to practically force him to admit he had feelings for her. And Elijah is the exact same way. Hayley had to nearly die before he even kissed her and then he still disappeared.

They both feel unworthy of love and even scared to let themselves care for someone given their histories. I could see a scenario where they had to work together for a common goal and become friend to lovers. But again, it would be a miracle for either of them to make the first move.

I think their main thing in common is their willingness to sacrifice everything for those they love. Unfortunately, TVDU didn't spend a lot of time developing outside hobbies for the characters so it is always difficult to say what they would enjoy doing together. But I guess for both of them, their family is their hobby. Elijah and Stefan(ie) both spent most of their lives attempting to reign in their brother. They would definitely bond over that.

I would have loved a storyline where Stefan(ie) was actually able to deal with what Katherine did. Especially, having someone that actually cares. Elijah gets very protective when he feels someone was taken advantage of or harmed by someone much stronger than him. Likely because of his childhood. I think knowing what Katherine had done would have been the nail in the coffin for any lingering feelings Elijah may have had for Katherine. I don't think he would harm Katherine, but would warn her to stay away and if she didn't listen it may become lethal.

They would both really appreciate the other's loyalty and trust. But this would also cause issues. Stefan(ie) would be loyal to Damon and Elijah to his family. Their families often were working in opposition of each other which would cause problems. Stefan(ie) would hate how logical Elijah could be. How he could reason away any terrible deed. Elijah would hate when Stefan(ie) would try to push morals. Elijah understood sometimes you bend morals for those you love, something Stefan(ie) did often, yet never wanted to admit it.

Going off of that, I don't think Elijah would be surprised by the Ripper of Monterery. Elijah's done his own share of killing. I also don't know how compassionate Elijah would be to a Ripper. The Mikaelsons never seemed to struggle with blood lust, even right after they turned. I think Elijah would not fully understand what it means to struggle since he had such amazing control over it. Now, he does have the whole Red Door scenario, but I've talked about how that is more metaphorical than a hidden ripper inside him. His killing was never because he lost control. Elijah didn't tend to have a lot of patience for people losing control. He would try to help, but there isn't a way to 'fix' being a Ripper and that would have been frustrating to Elijah.

I guess there could be a love triangle and they would all probably just fall into it since the show made all of these characters incapable of removing themselves from love triangles. But again, they would not navigate the families well. This is why I always say I can't get into cross show ships. The Mikaelsons and TVD gang were always meant to be enemies. Making them anything else cheapens all of the pain they've caused each other and honestly just forces the characters to be OOC.

Maybe if Stefan(ie) and Elena were never a thing and, as you said, Elijah and she had a relationship before all of the TVD events, we could have seen Stefan(ie) siding with the Mikaelsons, but I still think that would be OOC. Stefan(ie)'s entire life was devoted to repairing the damage of her past. She wouldn't appreciate the fact that Elijah wasn't trying to be a better person himself, he was only concerned with making Klaus a better person. But, again, Stefan(ie) was good at rationalizing doing bad things for those she loves as well. If anything, being with the Mikaelson family would definitely make her a worse person. Elijah would not have tolerated how Damon treated Stefan(ie). We already saw he didn't like how Klaus treated Rebekah and Damon would have the unfortunate reality of not being a Mikaelson to make Elijah hesitate.

I think a Stefan(ie)/Elijah/Hayley dynamic would be interesting. Stefan(ie) would definitely be the least dominate of the three. I don't know why but I can't see Hayley and Stefan(ie) getting along. Similar reasons as to why I think Elijah and Stefan(ie) would have problems. Hayley was very much like a Mikaelson, willing to justify terrible things in the name of family. While Stefan(ie) did this as well, she still maintained kind of a moral superiority (even if it wasn't super justified) and Hayley would hate that. She would constantly call Stefan(ie) out on it, pulling Elijah into the middle.

I would love to think that they could help each other overcome their familial trauma, because lord knows they both have a lot, but I don't think they would. They were both so stuck in it that they needed people who didn't have that same trauma to help. They could relate to each other but then they would both justify their codependency because "it's family." While yes, Damon and Stefan(ie) had more time apart than the Mikaelsons, I disagree that it was any less codependent. Anytime Damon showed up, Stefan(ie) dropped everything to take care of him. It's why Lexi tried to force Damon away. Because, even when Damon was torturing Stefan(ie) (ie killing Lexi), Stefan(ie) couldn't bring herself to push Damon away. When Damon wasn't around, Stefan(ie) was fine, but as soon as Damon showed up (cause that man could not stay away), Stefan(ie) fell back into their toxic relationship. Damon would get jealous of Stefan(ie)'s relationship and insert himself back into her life. Stefan(ie) wouldn't be able to walk away. Same thing with Klaus and Elijah. Neither of them could truly encourage the other to walk away because they know they wouldn't walk away from their own family.

Do you have any hc about Damon's season 1 powers? I'm especially interested in shapeshifter!damon. The whole concept is quite fun to imagine. Also why do you think he has these extra powers? Personally after the whole lily thing I like to imagine that Damon is an untrained heretic. Also a scenario where hos powers would be revealed to scooby gang and/or the mikaelsons.

okay, okay so. Prepare for a short essay. (Sorry)

Intro!! So, in the Vampire Diaries books, vampires have Powers (capital letter and all) that feature things like weather manipulation, shapeshifting, flying, elemental control, telepathy, I think they can see auras or sense other vampire's Power. The books and the show are only like barely related. A lot was changed to make the show. (The Salvatores' ages, for one--they'd been Renaissance era men who'd killed each other in a duel over, you guessed it, Katherine. A ton of characters had personality changes (show Bonnie is better, imo), and book Caroline was an antagonist, plus Jeremy straight up didn't exist, Elena had a v young sister. So on, so forth, everything ended up super different.)

The show started off a (teeny) bit closer to the source material, but sharply diverged, including getting rid of the Powers thing. Something about it being too supernatural???? in the vampire show??? idk might have to fact check me on that one think I read it somewhere random.

But, as we know, it's heavily implied, and outright stated in some cases in early S1 that Show!Damon has access to some kind of power. Controlling the weather, controlling animals (perhaps shapeshifting, but maybe just a connection), and a long distance kind of hypnosis.

What we know about it:

In episode 1, a crow is seen following Elena around. It shows up multiple times. In the car with Bonnie, at the graveyard, when she goes to the Salvatore House for the first time. The crow heralds Damon's reappearance to his brother. Stefan says, "Crow's a bit much-" which implies this is a Thing that he knows about. Damon replies, "Wait until you see what I can do with fog."

The very first scene Damon is in, the opening with the couple on the way back from some concert (i think) it's foggy. They mention something about it that implies it shouldn't be foggy, or that it wasn't previously. Like, "What's with all the fog?" At the graveyard, Elena sees a crow, then it starts becoming much more foggy.

Bonnie, at some point, touches Elena and says she sees a crow, some fog, and a man.

It's foggy when Vicki is attacked.

So. We've established those two things. Moving on.

There's that one scene where Damon is locked up and long distance compels Caroline to free him--i think after calling the crow into his cell and eating it to gain that strength? maybe--it's heavily implied because he fed on her they have a connection he can use to influence her mind without direct compulsion.

I'm sure there's other examples, but I can only watch so much of S1 at a time.

OKAY!! now that that's been established, time for the fun headcanon stuff.

Firstly, I also love shapeshifting!Damon! Tis good fun and it lets me project gender envy i mean it's a great metaphor about vampires being inhuman!! Yes! That! Nothing else ahahahahaha. Something something, predator's perspective, something something instincts. In the book Damon could turn into a large crow and a wolf. Highkey wish they'd kept the crow thing as more than just the occasional motif. It could have been so much fun!! Crow minions!!! Crow friends!!!! Crows bothering the fuck out of people he wants to annoy!!!!! Damon trades shinies and food for things!! Somehow always has a snack on him. Crow drama??? Just casually mentions weird lil bird rivalries. Crows are Smart! They are super social!!! They hold grudges!! They absolutely have Drama on par with Mystic Falls. It could also be played for angst; Katherine announces her return with with a bunch of bird corpses in the Boarding House. Damon, who is unsympathetic to human deaths could be visibly upset by this!! Also nicely plays into the 'likes animals but pretends he doesn't bc it's a weakness' thing.

Comes home and there is feathers in his hair, nearly blending in. Except, on closer look, they're positioned oddly, like they'd been growing from him instead of just settling there. Then he brushes them off or shakes his head and they fall away. Maybe Stefan notices he's a bit more prone to tilting his head at things to get a better looks. Is a bit more easily distracted/more prone to notice shiny things.

A crow follows Elena around and maybe she makes friends with it. Or a crow comes across Stefan having some angst fest in the forest and bothers him into a better mood.

I like the heretic thing!!! I also just think the Salvatore bloodline is magic charged bc it's a doppelganger line!! They've got Silas germs!! Maybe Damon is a little bit more psychic than he should be. Maybe his compulsions require less effort and his dream-walking is better than vampires twice his age!!! Mild telekinesis would also fit in with early S1 nonsense! moving doors to creep Elena out!

As for his powers being revealed... I mean. Suddenly he's more valuable to the Originals? Not as much as Elena was, but there would prob be more recruitment efforts than in canon. Plus, Kol would be more interested in him as more than a batting target. Klaus and Elijah may press the 'saved ur life thing' more. Hm... I guess it would depend on when in the show? Early seasons and it just makes him more a threat. Stefan maybe assuming he did something to a witch??? Later in the seasons and if he develops those powers it's fun to imagine him having to learn to use/control them + having to deal with increased need for blood to fuel them. If it was a matter of him keeping them secret, I'm sure the Drama will manifest with 'how could you not tell me!!' and so on and so forth. Technically speaking, I imagine it'd be put in the same place as Jeremy's medium powers. Brought up when needed. not entirely sure, may think on it later

☆ But a boyfriend that loves you would not ask you to do this especially seeing how uncomfortable you were with it. And you had never had the urge to cheat but that's exactly what he was asking you to do and he didn't care.

☆ Suddenly you found yourself wishing maybe you were with Klaus, you couldn't see him ever using you as bait. If his protectiveness of his siblings was anything to go by then he'd never let you be put in danger.

☆ To make things even worse all of your friends agreed with Damon, Bonnie and Caroline thought you were being selfish, that it was just one night it didn't have to mean anything. Didn't they understand you weren't that kind of girl and you didn't want to hurt Klaus, why would you? He had done nothing but make sure that you were safe even when he had quarrels with the salvatores.

☆ So he wanted Elena's blood to make hybrids. Yes she was your friend but she wasn't very smart she could literally just donate blood every week and Klaus would be happy. Were you the only one who didn't see him as this awful person?

☆This awful big bad wolf everyone spoke of would leave you beautiful sketches on the bar for you to find after getting off a long shift. How was that evil? He promised you that you deserved more than this town could ever give you and offered you the world.

☆ But you remained loyal because that's the kind of girl you are and they had the audacity to ask this of you??

☆After a particularly nasty argument with your boyfriend about his plan you storm out. Walking away from the boarding house, just trying to be anywhere but there.

☆Klaus sees you crying and immediately pulls his car over and makes his brother Kol move to the backseat.

"I just need to get out of this town"

☆He can help you with that, and his eyes stare at you with such concern that you don't hesitate to climb in. Unlike any sane person being in the same car as to Originals isn't terrifying to you. ☆You can tell he wants to know what happened but he doesn't push unlike his nosy brother in the backseat. You decide to tell them the truth because you just don't have the energy to lie.

☆Kol looks at you solemnly before asking Klaus to stop the car and jumps out. You hope he won't kill anyone but maybe Damon's just gone too far this time.

☆Klaus doesn't speak for the whole ride to his mansion opting instead to give you a grim smile and holding your hand. You finally felt peace.

☆Maybe you would take him up on his offer, it wasn't like anyone would care.

Ive never been one for affection, PDA or anything. It’s taken a while for Damon to break down my walls.

Started off with little touched. His hand touching mine as he stood or sat beside me. Over time he managed to actually hold my hand without me putting up a fuss. Then he started seeing how close he could sit to me. Eventually he managed to have me pulled against him, sometimes on his lap if he was lucky. Often he had his head on my thigh or in my neck.

For some reason the other people in this town seem to think because he gets to be affectionate they can also start sitting really close, the other day Stefan put his arm around me. It was not on.

This morning i was downstairs sat on the couch with my feet up on the footstool. I was just sat on my phone minding my own business when Caroline strolls in and throws herself down next to me. Right next to me.

A/N: Hey, I hope your school is going okay. My school started a week ago and I'm already ready for another vacation. Also, my publishing pace has slowed down a bit, because I'm having a really important test coming in a month or so, so I hope you guys can understand that.

Dabi has been a more hands-off parent the whole time you have been living with him. It’s not because he doesn’t care, he just really doesn’t know how to do the whole father-figure thing, so don’t blame him too much.  

He knew that you were awake the night before the school year started but Dabi really doesn’t know what he should do.  

So, the next morning you leave for school without breakfast just to make sure that you wouldn’t throw up from anxiety.  

Somewhere in your mind you knew that there was nothing to be afraid of and everything would go okay.  

The whole day Dabi was anxious for you, and he did check his phone every ten minutes just to make sure that you hadn’t panic-texted him.  

When you got home you were exhausted. You had gotten some new friends, and all had gone just fine but it had been a bit too overwhelming, and all of your anxiety had taken all of your energy out of you.  

Dabi was looking at his phone when you came home, walking straight to the couch, falling face first. You kicked your shoes off and dropped your back bag before Dabi had a chance to say anything.  

“So, how was your day?” Dabi asked, trying to sound like he didn’t care as much as he actually did. 

Dabi waited for a response for a moment before calling out for you. Once again you didn’t respond.  

Dabi walked to you touching your head, to get your attention, only to see your eyes closed.  

He pulled a blanket from the back of the couch and covered you with it, before sighing and took his old place on the armchair.

I saw something about Damon being a shapeshifter and going gender is stupid. Any more hcs or scenarios on that?

alkfdjalkfjdsf okay okay so!!! In S1 he was very much playing a role. He was the Bad Guy. Except that was to mask his real mission. He was there to save Katherine. Tormenting Stefan and causing trouble in Mystic falls are also goals, but secondary to the first, more amusements than anything. He also probably spent literal decades planning out exactly how everything was going to go. Some of his decisions were absolutely for the Drama. Like. Taking a Founding Family Daughter to a Ball in the Lockwood Manor to Retrieve the Amulet-Key??? Dramaaaa. He didn't need to do that. (I mean part of it was def Bothering Stefan, but he really could have just gotten an invitation into the house discreetly at any point prior. There was time between the comet 'charging' Emily's Amulet and the night of the party.) It really just strikes me as 'This is The Plan.' one he's spent who knows how long thinking of. So he has a Role to Play. That role is romantic hero/vengeful lover. He's very set on that, plus I imagine he wanted to present himself as similar, but not quite the same as the man Katherine has once known. Being in Mystic Falls, he's deliberately portraying a version of himself.

This being a very rambling way to say that after he realizes his entire life was based off a lie, Damon goes back to--like yeah sure I'm generally guy-shaped--(insert someone repeating 'generally?' with confusion here)--but who cares about that??? This vampire has spent decades hanging out in every dive bar imaginable and a lot of them had been drag clubs and gay bars and sex clubs and every shade of what society demanded be kept away from the rest of them. Gender isn't even like. some unimportant human concept to him, it's also one humans Made Up that doesn't apply to Other Humans and some of them just enforce the idea of it. It starts off small, in the 'when did you paint your nails?' sense, then he just starts going, yeah this IS a woman's top, but I'm rocking it and I Can Kill You, i think that's more important than how good I look in this sweater. Boots with more of a heel to them, occasional makeup, just whatever he feels like at the time. Sometimes he keeps his original body but wears a skirt, sometimes it's ambiguously androgynous in the 'excuse me, ma'am--sir? sorry, uh, here's your coffee.' And sometimes it's oh those are very much breasts, but that is a men's shirt and his face has stubble. Very nice clothes, like he had tailored shirts in canon, it's the same here. Really nice tops and skirts and shoes. Makeup On Point, expensive stuff, subtle jewelry, Caroline is lowkey annoyed he has such good taste. and also keeps wanting to look through his closet. Throw in some shapeshifting and its 'Are you a man or a woman?' 'I'm a vampire. Sometimes I'm a crow.' 'But what's in your pants?' 'fangs.' Given how very small town 2009 Mystic Falls is, this does not endear him to some people and probably sets him further apart than he was in canon. Though, I do like to imagine that the Originals don't even blink at this and just take it in stride before going back to their Murder Plots. Elijah is particularly gentlemanly, and does all those automatic 'holding out his arm' or 'holding the door, or a jacket' gestures with no reserve.

At some point Damon replaces all the (he usually goes by he because he doesn't especially equate pronouns with gender and does switch it up occasionally but sticks with he/him and his original name bc that's what he introduced himself as and bc Stefan would Make It a Thing--more about Damon throwing away every connection to his human life than him being a jackass, i think, but) but he replaces the pictures of the original Salvatore Siblings in the town archives and basically invents a sister solely for the purposes of gaslighting people into thinking he's the Original Damon Salvatore's Vampire Twin Sister Who Assumed Her Brother's Identity. Elena has to actually ask Stefan if he has a sister, which he denies, except it was a confusing conversation which left her unsure if they actually had a sister at some point or not and Damon somehow convinces her that Stefan doesn't know the actual truth and that he's his own twin. (He was very bored between the post-Tomb Opening binge drinking and depressed episodes.)

Katherine, watching this go down through binoculars: I think I'm proud? Shame he's going to try to kill me, I want to know where he gets his shoes.

i imagine if he wanted to keep up the Masquerade, but walk around town in a different form, he has an ID and backstory all set for a distant cousin on his mother's side. Her name is Desdemona, yeah they do look a lot alike, they both take after their mother's family. Stefan, stuck escorting his 'cousin' around town: please stop inventing Family Drama to talk about, you literally killed off any real family we have.

Damon, who has made a fake family tree and charts and has files on personalities complete with Thanksgiving Dinner Level Gossip: Not on your life. Don't you want to know how cousin Georgina gets back at Evil Aunt Charlotte?

Stefan: ...you need a hobby. A different hobby.

Damon: listen, it's this or murder. you pick.

Stefan: *sighs* Did Cousin Georgina elope?

Damon: She Eloped!! This, of course, enraged Evil Aunt Charlotte so much she had a heart attack and died!! Right there in the dining room!!

Stefan: we told people we were orphans with no close family, Damo--..Desdemona.

Damon, mentally plotting out how Evil Aunt Charlotte's funeral is going to have suspicious man in all black attend, who, when he turns to leave, reveals a gun under his jacket: We were estranged, problem solved. They didn't like Father. honestly, who did?

Gradually practicing until he can hold a full shift for as long as he wants and just disappears for a week to be a bird bc god knows the murders hanging around town are more fun than the people. Blood red lipstick and winged eyeliner and feathers nearly blending in with black hair. Eyes a touch too wide or irises oddly sized, dark blue nearly corner to corner. Spends a month breaking limbs oddly often bc he fucked up his bones and now theyre hollow even when he’s human-shaped. Maybe in this verse vampires are a bit wilder, a bit more connected to dark powers, and Damon especially so. Some others get stuck or can only partially adopt animal form, giving them a bestial appearance—and play their part in the myth of vampirism, the origin of some of the world’s stories.

Stefan can’t shift, doesn’t really have that talent and has none on animal blood, but when he isn’t maybe he can float a bit. Some murderous parody of Peter Pan—forever young and forever luring people away never to be seen again. (He could fly in the books, once he’s had more than animal blood. So could Damon.)
