I feel you, anon. I really don't blame you for being resentful about TOA's racism and how the Golden Cheese Kingdom was the closest we got to actual representation.

Trust me, being someone who is an indigenous SWANA (Iranian and Bakhtiari), it just felt really godawful that Devsis would just up their racism to 11, especially after the multiple Yogurca instances. I have close friends who are African American, one of whom not having played any CR games in years and just got back into CR through TOA, it just felt... unsettling that of all the things they did, they had to be that insensitive and stoop an all-time low. It's not my place to speak about either of these, but even I know that it's damning and insulting when you add Native American outfits as a prop for aesthetic (especially given how they were talking about why it shouldn't be treated as such) and depicting Africans as monkeys and demonizing voodoo. Also, Plaintain Cookie's design... yikes... /vneg

I'm even hearing about some people on Twitter mentioning that the people in the TOA Discord were literally downvoting any criticisms involving the racism in the game. The amount of ignorance I'm seeing is just so heartbreaking, especially since the CR community is extremely diverse. The whole "Devsisters didn't know!" and "They're just cookies!" shtick isn't going to save them from this one, especially considering they have made racist depictions in the past.

If I were an executive at Devsisters, I would actually go to people who ARE Native, SWANA, African, etc. and just ask them for advice and help on the do's and don'ts. Hell, I even recall having to go to people I know who are from cultures they represent for help on a character I am designing or get research. Even one of the people I know in the animation industry commissioned me to help redesign his DND character since he knows I'm SWANA. I can name different video games and movies that did a better job in doing the task of researching things and getting help from the minorities representing the culture than did Devsisters.

Now, I'm not discouraging people from playing any Cookie Run game. I've played the games for years and still find it to be a piece of comfort since it saved me during my lowest point in life, so it means a lot to me as a whole. However, it's important to understand the issues and listen to affected minorities when we discuss about the racism in the Cookie Run games, and TOA is one of the games that we have every right to criticize. People shouldn't throw hissy fits when we say that Devsis shouldn't depict voodoo in a bad light, or depict those who are African as monkeys, or treat Native American clothing as an aesthetic.

As much as I love Tower of Adventures, I am begging that we take action and slap some sense to them and realize their mistakes.

But White Lily having the faerie kingdom was the stupidest thing that Devsis could do. Like she’s half a cookie and her other self is Dark Enchantress. She’s literally putting the faeries endangered. Honestly if the faeries / the group didn’t wake her up. We could’ve gotten more of Elder Faeries story tbh. He could’ve met LilyBell or Blue Lily or show before what he did before trapping the beasts.

Devsis could’ve done better with Beast Yeast. Do I like beast yeast? Yes. But Devsis please do your damn research I’m begging you…

... I love that devsis sometimes makes interesting assholes (Sometimes by bad writting and fandom hc tho) .

I don't mean morally grey like Pastry or Clotted Cream. I mean a different thing.

Like... Literally, we just saw Stormbringer attacking a dragon that knew no better. And calling Dark Cacao arrogant, even is she is also REALLY arrogant herself. And even tho it probably is just devsis not being good writters, we can interpret this as a showing that how not even gods are free or flaws in this world. That as all-mighty they are, they are still gonna fuck up. And fuck up BADLY.

Same situation with Sea Faery but not do direct. She was so fucking STUPID for leaving two kingdoms to die just for a woman that is impossible to reach for her. And again, it shows that gods are weak and that love can be so endearing and so fucking trágic. Is bad writting that can be used for a tragedy about an irresponsable god. (That last thing is even more easy to embrace in the update of Black Pearl's backstory).

Dark Cacao also. We have the whole situation with Dark Choco. That is basicaly just confusing writting, but that the fandom as a whole has choosen to interpret as him having complex feelings from the trauma of the Dark Flour War. He loves his son, he is just really not that good with emotions. And that mixed with the circunstsnces leaded to not something good.

Smoked Cheese is also an interesting case. Started really well as someone who wanted the best for the kingdom and by the end of the story if completly derrailed for that. (Not profundizing too much, I already did a post only about him).

Damn, you don't even have to involved godhood to see that this game is good at making complex and sometimes not even intentional mean people.

Licorice for example. He has so much potential and so much interesting thing, and that at the same time co-exits with the fact he fucking dead-names Brute. The fact that he has trauma, a backstory, an pontential happens as the same time that he has a HUGE problematic behaivor.

Butter roll is another example. There is the whole discourse of him being ableist. And yeah, he defenetly did acted like an asshole and probably is ableist to some degree. But this also lead to multiple conclusions on how this shows he is not just a himbo becauase of this happening, or a complete demon because of not being clear with what intentions did happened.

You don't even have to look that far to see this being posible with more nice characters!

Olive cookie literaly was talking like the cheese people were objects of the past, right infront of them.

Similar situation with Eclair explaining Tea Knigth's backstory right infront of him, even if he doesnt want to hear it!

Like... Idk, i just love seeing that characters with HUGE, really concerning, or sometimes a bit smaller flaws can also be charming and interesting. Because that is how real people act. And I really wished this fandom could handle both concepts at the same time, insteed of forgetting totally that it happened for the sake of making the character more likeble or straight up making that their only characteristic.

One thing is acknowledging, another is covering it up, and another is demonizing

I would also love to see the Beasts' backstories/how they corrupted if the current Beast Yeast arc doesn't do it. (If they don't i'm still on the fence Devsis would do what they did with the Ancients and have dedicated arcs/worlds to show more story)

The weird discourse around cream sodas age and the toa bunny costume is so tiring. Just because she's in a 'school' doesn't mean she's a child!!! haven't any of you heard of an adult going to college? lmao and its a damn training academy for SWORD FIGHTING. please people use your brains

and devsis isn't stupid? if she was a child (which she clearly isn't cause she doesn't even have the proportions of a child cookie) they wouldn't put her in a mildly sexy bunny outfit. So cream soda is an adult. case closed!

I'm not even into OB or the game in which the skin appears, but I am quite certain that she's confirmed to be an adult on OB. However the age discourse on CR games is still pretty strong (and stupid) since most of the times it is people infantilizing characters or misinformation being taken as canon/or as a popular headcanon. This has also happened with Sherbet Cookie (they have been alive for ages from what I remember. their cookie form just happens to be short and they're unable to talk.), and some other cookies that seem to be young but are actually implied to be young-adults or to have been alive for centuries.

As well you can always tell when a cookie is meant to be a kid. They're portrayed as such and you know, behave like kids. Cream Soda is a grown ass woman and I've only seen her like. 3 times. But that is a grown ass woman. And yes, I don't think people are really thinking it through either because I am prettyyyy sure Devsis would get in really bad trouble if they did that to an actual kid character. People are just looking for something to get angry at. - 🧀

Ovenbreak doesn't have to worry about animating the Cookies past running jumping, and sliding. Kingdom however.. Is different.

I'd rather have Devsisters admit flat out that they hate Frost Queen than this. This is just cruelty.

Also why doesn't Pumpkin Pie Cookie have a costume? She came when the concept of costumes came out if I heard carefully.

That would be a dream come true if that were to happen (considering I am still looking for work)!!! Just all of my ideas coming to life in every update,,, and perhaps make designs and tell stories (with a pinch of fixing the Yogurca designs for the good of every SWANA folk in the community).... A CR fan artist's dream. ;u;

But yeah, it's really exciting to work with Koffeebee! If this ends up leading me to work on some big project Devsis is working on, consider it foreshadowing. ;u;
