One of the stars of Looking, Daniel Franzese, has joined calls for a reboot of the HBO series.

The actor, who played Eddie and is also known for his iconic role as Damien in 2004’s Mean Girls, spoke to Attitude at RuPaul’s DragCon UK on Saturday (13 January).

Noting that 2024 marks 10 years since Looking debuted (the first episode aired on 19 January 2014) Franzese commented on hopes for a reboot. “We’re all pushing on that,” he told us.

“We love each other,” he continued. “It’s an amazing group of people. Everybody on that show was an actor’s actor. We love to rehearse. We love to talk about our characters and plot points and really work on the project.

“If they ever wanted to do another movie, I’m pretty sure all of us would be down.”

The actor shared that he and Looking co-star Frankie J. Alvarez, who played Agustín, had recently seen Jonathan Groff, who played Patrick, on Broadway in Merrily We Roll Along. The three appear to have discussed Looking then.

“We all talked about it,” Franzese said. “We would love to do something again. Who knows? Murray Bartlett now is really huge. Everyone’s doing great. So, it’s a great time to get us all together. I think most of us are free once Jonathan’s out of that show. So get with it HBO.”

Franzese’s remarks follow those of Russell Tovey, who played Kevin. He told Attitude last October he had “begged” Looking creator Andrew Haigh to bring the show back. “He didn’t seem completely closed off to it so who knows?” said Tovey who then added: “I would jump at the chance.” Tovey also said now would be a “perfect” time to bring Looking back.

Talvez o Devonshire deveria imaginar que quando uma bruxa se aproximou dele naquela noite, era apenas o inicio de uma noite bem caótica. A principio, ele ficou um tanto confuso com o desafio que havia recebido e tinha uma pequeno problema em o executar já que ele não possuía um aparelho celular de última geração considerando a criação que os pais lhe deram, completamente contra a forma que os padrões eram escravos da tecnologia. Com tudo, tendo uma palavra aqui e outra ali, ele conseguiu com ajuda imprimir algumas folhas da história que ele precisava. Então, antes de se aproximar de Mateo, fez um sinal para que bruxa ficasse por perto para ter certeza de que ele estava cumprindo com sua parte. O Devonshire tinha de ter um grande auto controle para que não risse, por que não só a situação era engraçada, mas depois de ler algumas frases do texto impresso, ele sabia que seria cômico e da dificuldade que teria em manter a expressão séria. ❝Mateo! Justamente por quem eu procurava!❞ Pronunciou conforme dava passos na direção do Gonzalez, uma prova de seu esforço, não estar flutuando. Se sentou ao lado do vampiro sem esperar muito por qualquer resposta ou negativa no caso de estar na companhia de outrem, até por que qualquer outra pessoa poderia ser colocada em segundo plano na visão de Damien. Ergueu os papéis que segurava em mãos, a cabeça apontando para eles em um sinal indicativo do que se tratava, ainda que imaginava a confusão alheia, isso não o impediu de continuar. ❝Se lembra daquela minha amiga escritora que lhe contei em nossa última conversa? Ela escreveu mais sobre aquela história e pediu para que eu lesse pra você, queria que você dessa a sua opinião sobre já que é algo muito importante e sério pra ela.❞ Era realmente um grande esforço para se manter sério, nessas horas agradecia imensamente o esforço de Albert para que tivesse aulas de teatro desde muito cedo. Não havia amiga escritora nenhuma na última conversa que teve com o outro, mas contava que Alvarez se sentisse constrangido demais para dizer que não recordava já que aparentemente se tratava de algo sério. ❝Por favor, lembre-se de manter a mente aberta já que esse é o primeiro rascunho dela desse projeto e ela esta bem nervosa.❞ Pediu ainda que isso fosse apenas um pedido silencioso para que o outro não desabasse na gargalhada e o fizesse rir também. Pigarreou antes de voltar os olhos azuis para as folhas e começar a ler em uma voz mais aveludada.

Parou a leitura momentaneamente, sorrindo um pouco ainda que não estivesse a rir, ele sabia que dali para frente as coisas só iriam piorar, mas sabia que precisava começar de um lugar mais seguro para que Mateo considerasse como um assunto sério. ❝As pessoas podem só chegar e se confessar a qualquer hora? Soa como incomodo, de qualquer forma, vamos pular um pouco, não? Tem partes mais relvantes na história.❞ Comentou em um sorriso levemente maldoso, os olhos brilhavam em certo divertimento. Pulando algumas páginas para prosseguir com a leitura.

Ines already recognizes Nari as she slides up to the coffee line, but decides against saying a thing considering the other shifter seems more interested in her phone. Something a flurry of other coffee-needers think too as they seamlessly blend into the line, sending Ines right to the back and practically out of the door. But, it only brings a chuckle from the Alvarez who nods fairly to Nari as she turns.

"Oh, you're good. I walked faster than I realized, anyways. Mother Florence really said run fast and I said bet. So, I've got time." she explains with a wave of her hand before a slow grin forms and she leans to peer around the shifter. "Want me to say something?" Ines asks, not in favor of confrontation herself but politely pointing out someone's rudeness doesn't count. But her attention is brought back to Nari as the shifter finally recognizes her. "Yeah, Ines. We are. Good ol' Damien Wealthington, right?" a natural glance over her shoulder to the few blocks that remain to the institute, but when her gaze travels back on itself, Ines spots the illuminated Tattoo Shop letters. A thoughtful frown places itself on her face, and then she's focusing again to Nari. "No, really. It's all good. Don't need to do that. I have like a zillion pumps of vanilla so, don't want to be rude." she chuckles, glancing to the tattoo shop again and then to the time on her phone. "Is the session with Damien your first one today? Like at twelve?"

COFFEE SHOP + INES

"sorry." nari turns to the person behind her, her hands fluttering in a futile attempt to explain. because now they're both stuck at the back of the coffee line after several people squeezed in, mistaking nari's phone distraction for disinterest. she shrugs with an apologetic frown. "i hate confrontation, or else i'd say something." she adds but her finger hesitates in a wavering point. "oh…you're in the same thing as me…" she gestures in the vague direction of the institute, assuming it's where they're both heading after coffee. if it doesn't take forever. "isla? no… um…ines! ines, right? nari." she taps her chest, smiling before waving an awkward gesture to the long line. "i'm sorry about this. can i get your coffee? you know...when we eventually get to the front." @rviner

Word Performances and The Nunnery

After a couple of months away from live performance, I found myself playing two shows in one weekend, both in the Mission District of San Francisco. They were an exercise in contrasts artistically, but both were delightful in different ways.

Word Performances is a “variety show” of poets, musicians, and dancers produced by Cybele Zufolo Siegel and Todd Siegel. The latest incarnation took place at the Lost Church, a favorite venue of mine for its cozy theater and visual vibe reminiscent of David Lynch.

Like any good variety show, it features a staple of regular players that includes both Cybele and Todd, but also Pitta of the Mind as a recurring act. There were of course new participants as well, especially among the poets. You can see a bit of everyone in our video from the evening.

As is clear from the short excerpts, there was a diversity of styles and subject-matter. There were the spartan settings of the readings by Rose Heredia, Jon Sindell, Crystal Jo Reiss, and William Taylor, Jr. Todd and Cybele also gave readings, but with violin accompaniment provided by Hannah Glass. And flamenco Dancer Damian Alvarez stole the show with his tightly choreographed dance to the music of James Brown.

For Pitta of the Mind – myself and poet Maw Shein Win – we performed a brand new set with new poems, and a new color theme of green. The instruments were the same as for our previous performances, combining the Nord Stage, Prophet 12, and modular synthesizers. The consistency in structure and instrumentation helps in our ability to quickly come up with a new set.

Other than my psychedelic lights not working as expected, it was a solid set overall, and we are always happy to be part of the Word Performances shows.

If Word Performances provided a diversity of styles and media, the show later that weekend was very focused on invented instruments, unusual sounds, and the birthday of our friend David Michalak. You can see a bit of everyone in our CatSynth TV video (with David giving the valedictory tag).

This was the first time I performed as a duo with Scott Looney, but I was quite happy with the results. We are both skilled improvisers and were able to blend our sounds and ideas together seamlessly, with my performing on an Arturia MiniBrute 2 and Scott on a custom string instrument with various preparations.

Our set as well as the one that followed us featuring Tom Nunn, David Michalak, and Aurora Josephson had a similar texture: a lot of wisps, scrapes, and staccato elements. It was interesting to see how much musically David could get out of a flat piece of cardboard! The opening set with Tom Nunn on skatchbox and Ron Heglin on voice also had a very pointed and sparse texture.

The final set featuring Ghost in the House had a softer, longer, and more liquidy quality. This time David Michalak was performing with a processed harmonica and lap steel guitar, with long tones matched by Polly Moller Springhorn on bass flute and Cindy Webster on musical saw – and this was no ordinary musical saw, it seemed built specifically for music.

Overall, it was a fun show, and of high quality musically. It’s a shame more people weren’t able to hear it live – it was a private event – but the video captures much of the experience in a compact form.
