He regretted any pity and kindness he felt right now. Because this other boy was living in eternal denial and he felt the best was to just let him rot and die.
But if you know Motomiya Daisuke enough you will realize he’s not the type to accept defeat. He will continue coming and coming, until he has won the battle. For a scaredy-cat years ago, he had become a little more brave since he got those goggles and Chosen Child title.
Fladramon, however, was reaching his limit and then he just shoved the Kaiser away and yanked Daisuke from the scene. Many protests were made, as the digimon put Daisuke over his shoulder and ran away.
In doppler effect, Daisuke screamed to the other:
“I WON’T GIVE UP ON YOU, MAKE MY WORDS YOU JERK!”
"I WILL COME BACK!!"
"BETTER YOU SURRENDER NEXT TIME!!"
Him being a pipsqueak compared to Ichijouji made this scene even hilarious.
As endearing as it was for someone that much smaller than him to reach up and grab him by the collar, he was tiring of the boy's rhetorical circles and refusal to listen to what he'd already been told.
"Motomiya, I'm sick of repeating myself. This is your final warning."
"You do not hold any power over me at the moment. Quit it with your constant whining and demands. If you're so determined for me to acknowledge your silly little terms, you will need to redeploy them after a show of force."
Pause for effect.
"Like this."
He grabbed Daisuke's wrist and yanked it crosswards to turn the boy around easily in a matter of seconds, pinning his arm to his back, other hand on his shoulder.
Ken ensured the smaller boy was between him and Fladramon, that the digimon couldn't attack for fear of his human being caught in the crossfire.
"I have no reason to listen to you until you pull something off of at least this level. You can manage that, surely, once you've escaped again, as you surely believe you will, yes?"
"Since you brought it up, while yes, we can die in this place, there's also a much greater capacity for me to inflict pain on you than there would be in the real world. So settle down and be good."

PLEASE! TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT DAISUKE AND A POSSIBLE RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. I'm begging and crying, please
ship. daisuke x reader
content. sfw + romantic
an. i have not been reading any other content but I’ve seen the massive complaints of people babying him through the grapevine 💀 so well. hopefully my thoughts are good
We all know this but Daisuke is seriously such a cutie.
Just. He’s so outwardly kind and enthusiastic, so before you two are even dating he’s practically just glued to your hip.
I think before any romance is involved he makes a great friend. He’s inviting you to his house to play video games (his mom makes snacks which is lowkey embarrassing but also pretty cute).
Honestly I think his mom is trying to teach him to be an adult but also like. Cannot stop babying him. Like he’s such a good son could you resist spoiling him?
And it just spirals to you too bc like! You’re the guest! Going to his place is always nice bc it’s like yay! It’s like they practically adopted you. (It wears out tho his mom makes you start doing your own dishes or something and it’s like oh. You’re *really* apart of the family.)
ANYWAYS ENOUGH. but before you two get together. Daisuke’s crush on you is like. So obvious.
He tries so hard to keep it to himself bc he’s afraid to ruin whatever you have right now but. Geez.
He lights up when he sees you and is almost talking a mile a minute—he’s just so excited to be with you and be talking to you!! You’re his favorite person!!!
And he’s always trying to impress you…like, it’s always something so dumb too. Showing off his arcade skills or whatever. He’s silly.
I think he can’t resist blushing when you’re around too. Like. There’s always a nice mauve stain on his cheeks and it’s ADORABLE.
He doodles. He doodles you. The stereotypical initials in hearts. YEAH. When he’s in classes or taking notes he most definitely starts daydreaming and ends up with silly doodles and hearts and crap UGHHH
His sketchbook is where it really gets dumb and crappy and romantic. Which he tries SO HARD TO HIDE FROM YOU ITS CRAZY.
when he musters of the courage to tell you his feelings (there’s a lot of stuttering and crap) he’s fist pumping and going LETS GOOOOOOOOO (when you’re not around but you manage to catch it probably)
He’s such a good boyfriend oh my god. In my mind he really values family and stuff so you are EXTREMELY important to him (and by default his fam)
You have a good relationship w his mom off the bat she ADORES you for how happy you make her son oh my god
He does a lot of stupid romantic shit like…pulls a chair out for you at dates, gives you flowers, tries to write love notes 💞
DUMB THRIFTING DATES WHERE YOU PICK OUT OUTFITS FOR EACH OTHER. UGHHHH DONT TOUCH ME.
But dating you also makes him think more seriously about life. Because he gets waaaaay ahead of himself and is like “oh my goodness,,,I have to prepare and get a job so we can get married and have a giant wedding and buy a nice house and get a pet and” (he’s naming your kids in his mind btw.)

He wasn't implying he wanted XV-mon to jogress evolve with the other four, but he was definitely curious about the possibilities.

Yep she's right. He knew it. If he's jealous of her having a date, why didn't he find one too? He wanted to answer that, but… he couldn’t!?
“... I have no time for that,” it was a very cold answer, one you could have the reading of him criticizing her. But he wasn’t criticizing her, and yes being extremely blunt and honest – he’s busy pursuing his dream.
“Not having time for that?” V-mon blinked.
“Yeah I can’t go on dates because I think this would distract me from work and my studies.”
V-mon frowned, maybe even Daisuke didn’t know why he would feel jealous of Miyako. Does V-mon himself know though? The digimon was also clueless about it.
“So, how was your date?” It’s not like Daisuke didn’t want to hear about it… But now he’s less upset so he could bear with her and listen to all the fluffy cuteness and lovely stuff she went through with her date.
But deep down he wanted to be the one to also have something exciting to tell her as well…
"Yes, yes, we did it." Hawkmon hugged V-mon back, but his eyes were on his disconcerted partner. He knew she wouldn't let go of it so easily.
Or else she'd have that stick with her for the rest of the week.
And she didn't, glaring at Daisuke as he approached her, obviously avoiding the subject. Getting jealous of her going to a Valentine's date while he couldn't? Now that's what she called childish. His apprentice job must've been getting into his head, maybe he needed to get out more and find himself a date.
Or he'd be stuck with playdates with her as V-mon kept graciously implying.
- ...If you're so jealous, - she propped her head on her hand, squinting her eyes at the young man - why don't you go and find a date for yourself?
#heads up: daisuke had always been like these since he was a kid LOL all the times Miyako gushed about a boy in front of him...#... he would have a weird reaction like this. does he like her or he's just acting like a protective little brother!? :3c#glassesandpassion#daisuke; courageous friend#digivalentines; daisuke kaiser day

Send me two names among the following 12 and Ill write a short analysis post about them:
Taichi Yagami | Yamato Ishida | Sora Takenouchi | Koushirou Izumi | Mimi Tachikawa | Jyou Kidou | Takeru Takaishi | Hikari Yagami | Daisuke Motomiya | Miyako Inoue | Iori Hida | Ken Ichijouji
Whether canon provides input on them or not.
Boy, do I love to refer back to "Butterfly" and how it basically framed Taichi as the male main character and Sora as the female main character throughout. One might argue that this is a combination that has been occurring in quite a lot of anime - particularly kids and Shounen related - back in the 90s and early 2000s, so... Asking whether or not canon provides input on them is like asking if water is wet. They've known each other since elementary school, have been in the same class ever since (and will continue to be classmates until graduation) and even attended the same football club for a while. They start the series as "almost telepathically connected" football club duo (basically a novel quote right here), adventurous and hands-on plot drivers, the courageous leader and the tomboyish but caring voice of reason right by his side. You instantly get the impression that they are familiar and close with each other and it's a theme that continues throughout the entire first season; not only because they consistently jump into action and call out, care for and protect each other, but because they, their bond, their loyalty and development are basically responsible for the fact that the kids get through everything alive in the end.
Trying to describe the extent and depth of their relationship would probably end with me writing a whole novel, so I will try to keep this brief, because... You know them. Similarly to Taito, Koumi and Takari, Taiora has been a staple in the shipping scene ever since the conception of Digimon Adventure back in 1999 - and for good reason. As mentioned, there used to be - and still is - a trope to pair up the main boy and main girl with one another and this case is no exception, considering how well they play off of each other, supporting and saving each other time and time again. Digimon Adventure is a special series though - a series whose creators intended to break through tropes and stereotypes, turning those on the head whenever possible. So while Taichi's and Sora's bond may be so significant that the idea of them ending up together seems inherently plausible - this is not how their story ends.
The tomboy, who struggles with her sense of femininity and identity, cannot deal with her best friend gifting her a hairclip - and while they seem thoroughly devoted to and on each other's minds, they develop in different directions. There is a theme of miscommunication between them as they grow older, little quarrels here and there - but at the same time, there is still an incredible sense of mutual fondness and protectiveness that, despite a growing physical distance, never completely vanishes. "If you love someone, let them go", is a quote that may come to mind when you take a look at the screenshot above and are aware of its context. Whether that kind of love was romantic or platonic at this point? We may never know.
This is the story of two close long-term friends, who were not meant to be together - wrong time, wrong place.
... Which doesn't mean that there isn't a potential "right time", right...?
Whether I think why and how they’d work.
What I mentioned above seems to be somewhat cryptic and what I'm about to outline may or may not break canon to a certain degree, but HEAR ME OUT.
While this headcanon is, for now, nothing more than a headcanon, but I am a big supporter of @dutchforstrangers' interpretation of the epilogue, leading to the idea that Yamato and Sora might not remain together/married. This post is not meant to be Sorato slander in any way and I will not go into detail here as to why I think this is a valid headcanon - just know that there are a few subtext aspects in regards to their behavioural patterns and body languages that leave room for speculation. And that's all there is to it: SPECULATION!
The point I am trying to make here is, once again, that Taichi and Sora may not have been ready to be in a relationship early in life - because they first had to come to terms with themselves, their real dreams, aspirations and needs. They had to become comfortable with themselves (particularly after the loss of their Digimon partners) to bridge the (physical and emotional) distance that had festered between them through the years. Because if you think about it, due to their underlying insecurities, they both chose the same approach in their early twenties: Isolating themselves from the rest of their friend group. And I feel like they both have to come to the conclusion first that this is a state that could never bring them long-lasting happiness. They're both social beings that shrivel when they're left alone for too long. (They may also need the encouragement of their friends - particularly Mimi, Koushirou and Hikari - to get there though.)
So it may take a while, weeks, months, maybe even years, to reconcile, step by step. Rekindling their bond, making up their minds about their true passions and career paths, rediscovering old and finding new hobbies and similarities along the way; whether it's about their shared love for their friends, football, adventurous and sporty activities, probably therapy???, whatever it may be... Until they'd reunite with their partners and, with a gleeful but weary smile on their faces, realize that they just had to grow up to this point to eventually find each other as well.
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship.
In case the way I've been talking about them hasn't made it obvious yet - I do love Taiora a lot. While I hadn't started actively shipping Digimon characters until I started watching Tamers, I always had an incredible soft spot for them and up to this day, Taichi and Sora are my second favourite choice for each other. You could say that, in every possible universe in which Taich doesn't end up with Koushirou, he WOULD end up with Sora if I had anything to say. It's also no secret that Taikoura is my absolute favourite OT3 and I really think they COULD work out beautifully together. In the end, both romantic and platonic Taiora is absolutely beautiful to me - especially because it brought some very special, wonderful people into my life. Long story short: As long as their closeness persists in any way, shape or form, I'll be happy.
I also still maintain that the reboot timeline could potentially go there, but I will not get my hopes up... Yet.

“Ok dude,”
Daisuke just went to the Kaiser base all alone and with V-mon before anyone could stop him. He and Fladramon were in the moonlight, the shadows just covering their faces… Except for Fladramon’s eyes glowing in the dark.
“I will tell you only once,” Daisuke said with a serious tone, “I won’t let you do whatever you want to do with me or with Agumon or with Taichi-senpai.”
This Digimon Kaiser had pissed him off enough this time he just chose to put an end to it right now.
Was he scared? Of course. He was facing a maniac after all… But if he got the Digimental of Courage, then he must just honor it. Even if he was being a complete reckless idiot right now.
But he had once tried to trade his own life for his ‘friends’ (which were just Bakemon servants impersonating the group) – maybe this is why Takeru and the others were so worried when he wanted to be taken to the Kaiser.
“What do you friggin want with me?! SPILL IT NOW.”
@indentedheartner
#he's just pissed dw. also he's just a teeny dog barking.#and yes he's mad because of taichi-senpai and agumon and the attempt of killing hikari-chan?? yup.#not enough to dark evolving but he's definitely PISSED.#indentedheartner#daisuke; courageous friend#advverse; unknown

So here’s your main hero from the Kamen Rider (Lightnimon) AU! This surprises no one, I know.
So the idea here is kinda recycling bits from the old version and mixing it with all the stuff i know about Rider so far (and other things.)
Well, I guess a hero who starts as a lackey of the big bad is not that uncommon to happen… But yeah, he just starts like this… He hates this job, to be fair. He can have a little fun but gets yelled at by his boss (not the big bad guy, just the evil scientist working there – not sure if it’s either Oikawa, Maki, Menoa or someone else from another digi-series yet).
Oh yeah, he definitely wants to quit and do something fun, something he likes: either soccer or cooking.
Question: Why did he end up there tho So, the big bad guy(s) is (are) Daemon (and the Demon Lords). They use human emotions to drive those wild digital critters – the digimon – insane and use them to control people. A digimon forms a link with a human and they can use the digimon’s power (be the critter taking the shape of a weapon or vehicle). But there’s those Dark Rings and Dark Seeds, the rings go on the digimon, the seeds on the humans. Keeping them in control is the goal of Daemon. Daisuke is… uh, one of those victims apparently, BUT! no ties to a digimon yet. He knows something is off, but he can’t do anything. He needs that job after all… (sadly, he’s not even aware the job is for the bad guys…)
There was a hero before!! This hero was known as Kamen Rider Courage. He fought alongside a group of other people. Before Daemon was a real issue, there was another villain – one possibly connected to him – Apocalymon. Kamen Rider Courage beat him and his lesser generals and saved the world!
Except… He lost something in return for his heroic acts: the life of a precious person to him. What, no! She’s not dead! But she… she changed drastically because of those critters that Kamen Rider Courage… Disappeared after his last fight.
Daisuke was in middle school when this all happened. He and his group of friends – Rui, Ken, Miyako, Iori, Wallace, Takeru and Hikari – had no memories of those though. Once our protag graduated from High School, he tried every job he could take in order to gather enough money to open his ramen shop – his life’s goal. And, well. This was the only job he got… All the rest didn’t call him back (alas)
As to how he got the friggin Seed… No one knows. The Seed is data, not something real. It’s data inserted into the human body, like the USB ports in Double/W. Rumors are that those with them were infected by Apocalymon in his last fight against the previous Kamen Rider.
One day he was just doing his (boring) job when he heard a cry. He saw one of those digimon trying to escape from the lab. This digimon, however, was Chibimon, who was looking for a new candidate to be a Kamen Rider and stop the evil guys from taking control over the world. Daisuke knew if that critter just escapes in his shift he would just get in trouble, so he tried to catch it. They were for hours playing the cat and rat game until the boy managed to grab Chibimon… Except he couldn’t put it inside the cage again. Chibimon knew this kiddo meant no harm and was just doing a bad thing. So, the digimon explained everything and told him his ‘job’ was actually harming both digimon and humankind.
He only signed up there out of options, and they didn’t give him details as for why they had to capture the digimon. He expected it to be some sort of… veterinary-like lab? This gave him a headache, but he believed in that digimon. Chibimon then asked why he would wear those clothes if this were a vet lab. That was indeed a good question, he thought. In order to help Chibimon to escape, he put the digimon inside his backpack.
Once they were out of the lab, and safe at Daisuke’s home… First, Chibimon was seeing Daisuke out of that getup so he felt even more sure that that human wasn’t a bad guy. Then, Chibimon asked him if he didn’t want to become a Kamen Rider. Daisuke mentions that he heard of that name before… But he couldn’t do that, right? Now that he knew he was doing something horrible to those critters… Chibimon’s answer is that he should do it in order to repent for those actions, which totally made Daisuke feel it was the right thing to do.
Thus, Chibimon and Daisuke formed a bond, and the boy got a D-3 key and D-3 Driver. Chibimon was entrusting him with his power, the power of Lighdramon (yes, Chibimon was not even in his original form) so he could transform into a Kamen Rider.
Thus, Kamen Rider Lightnimon was born.
(no coloring this time because i got overwhelmed by it lol)
Notes:
i know the D-3 does not look like a D-3 but... that's the intent. it's not supposed to look exactly like in the canon verse.
i also know the doodle for the encounter with Chibimon there has him unmasked but... you wouldn't be able to see him feeling sad for it if it were drawn 😔
he uses the shades from Kizuna/02TB (because i love them) in this AU. No goggles. As a kid he had no goggles either.

Digimon LOST AU Headcanons part 1/? - Early Taichi-centric stuff
There are character details I've left out regarding other people, because I tried to only focus on the situation from Taichi's POV. Also, more happens to him after this, but this would be equivalent to a first half of a first season. Some of this is subject to additions and changes in the future, based on what I come up with for other characters. Eventually I'll make a masterpost
General info at the start:
Flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo
They crash on an uncharted island somewhere in the Pacific
The survivors that land on the beach are Taichi, Yamato, Sora, Koushiro, Mimi, Jou, and a dozen background characters (I haven't decided if any of the background people are relevant yet)
The tail section of the plane broke off as the plane was falling to the Island and the people on it (including Takeru and Hikari) are presumed dead
There is some sort of unknown "monster" on the Island that kills a few of the background characters
There are people already on the Island (the Others). Among them are Daisuke, Miyako, Iori, and Ken, who capture survivors from the tail section
Taichi:
Age: 26
Flight main section/beach camp
Tries to be a positive person, but is stuck with a difficult situation. Has to figure out the difference between being impulsive and being courageous. Butts heads with Yamato and Jou. Makes friends with Koushiro and Sora.
Flashback: Taichi and Hikari fly from Tokyo to Los Angeles to have surgery for Hikari’s super rare terminal cancer by a world renowned surgical oncologist (Dr. Kido Sr.). When the doctor does tests, he changes his mind and says he cannot operate because she will die. He suggests they go back to Japan to see his son, who is a prodigy and has successfully operated on this type of cancer more recently, but is currently reclusive and nobody can find him
Flashback: Hikari is too sick to take the flight home, so Taichi has to go back to Japan to find this guy’s son and beg him to do the surgery. Taichi is haunted by the fact that he has to leave her in LA. But he’s determined to find Dr. Kido Jr.
Has no idea his sister Hikari was secretly on the flight, in the tail section along with Yamato’s brother Takeru. Also little does he know that the Island has healed her (à la John Locke and Rose). He won’t discover Hikari is on the Island for a while, as she has been captured by the Others (02 kids)
Taichi tries to relate to Yamato’s obsession with finding his brother, as Taichi is a brother himself. But Yamato doesn’t let him in. At least not in the beginning
Taichi preoccupies himself with trying to get off the Island, because Hikari’s prognosis was not good. He gets frustrated when Koushiro, who is deeply entrenched in the Island’s lore, believes they should stay and study the Island. That there’s a reason they were chosen to come here.
Sora secretly does not want to be rescued either, so she sabotages Taichi’s plans to get off the Island without him knowing. Jou finds out and keeps her secret, for now
When Taichi realizes Jou is the doctor he is looking for, he becomes irrationally obsessed with getting both himself and Jou off the Island. Jou is depressed and unmotivated and tells Taichi that no, he doesn’t think he could save his sister. He’s worried he can’t save anyone. He wants to die on the Island and wishes he wasn’t a survivor. This angers Taichi.
Mimi, who gets upset and leaves the beach camp one night, has a dangerous encounter with some sort of unseen monster. She is saved by a strange glowing vision of a young woman who tells Mimi she is Hikari Yagami and that there are other plane crash survivors on the Island. Mimi tells Taichi this and he doesn’t know whether to believe her… but he wants to. Koushiro warns them that it may be a trick, that the Island is digital, somehow, and could be projecting holograms or illusions
Taichi has to make the decision to venture deeper into the Island where there are potential monsters that could kill him, just to see if his sister might be on the Island. Or to stay back and heed Koushiro’s warning/keep trying to get off the Island
Eventually Taichi decides to hike deeper into the Island. Yamato offers to go with him, thinking his brother is alive based on Mimi’s vision. Sora also goes with him, hoping to learn more about what the Island wants for her

Send me two names among the following 12 and I’ll write a short analysis post about them:
Taichi Yagami | Yamato Ishida | Sora Takenouchi | Koushirou Izumi | Mimi Tachikawa | Jyou Kidou | Takeru Takaishi | Hikari Yagami | Daisuke Motomiya | Miyako Inoue | Iori Hida | Ken Ichijouji
It's been a while, but with the reveal of Yamato's new design in the upcoming PV for March 2025, I thought it was finally time to dive into my favourite Yamato ship out there - let's do this:
Whether canon provides input on them or not.
The portrayal of their relationship is very fascinating to me, because it absolutely is not at the forefront of the story for the most part and, unfortunately, becomes more scarce the more the series progresses (in any type of media form, that is). However, despite that, these two are - especially in Adventure - downright pivotal to each other's development regarding several aspects (in a similar way Taichi and Sora are portrayed through the course of the first few arcs of Adventure). Let's break this down:
At first, they don't seem to have too many interaction points. In fact, similar to how Jyou and Taichi start off not really trusting in the other's abilities, their initial relationship is rather rocky. This becomes apparent when Jyou is the one who tries to mediate between Taichi and Yamato and fails due to being unable to make a choice - causing Yamato to also be wary of Jyou's "reliability", so he doesn't think very highly of him at first. As they may be (presumably in Yamato's case) the oldest male characters in the group and, if you squint, you may still see them sharing very minor background interactions, mainly talking about seeking shelter for the group (or, mainly in the English dub, shake their heads over Taichi). They're not particularly close and there is nothing much to it at first...
... Until we reach the restaurant episode, which is a turning point for both of them - not only regarding their personal development, but also their entire relationship. I highly recommend reading the novel version of this episode, because it reveals so much about how these two think and feel about the other - and it boils down to one simple, but wonderfully executed concept: As Jyou is forced to work in Digitamamon's restaurant to pay off his debt, Yamato promises to help him to return to Takeru and look for the others faster. On one hand, as it is always the case at this point in the story, Yamato's primary objective is Takeru - but on the other, it's clear that, despite how much he struggles with interacting with others, he still prioritizes helping Jyou out. And Jyou does not take this for granted - the novel, while underlying his self-esteem issues, puts emphasis on how he thought Yamato would scream and shout at and just leave him behind. Jyou wouldn't even have blamed him for it in the slightest. And yet, he is thoroughly thankful for his help - and confesses through his inner monologue that he considers Yamato his very first real friend, feeling equal to him, even if he's aware that Yamato may not feel the same.
And there we have it - the theme of "friendship" that ties these two together indefinitely. Because yes: Yamato, who had been fed PicoDevimon's lies about Jyou intentionally acting clumsily to keep him at the restaurant, was more than ready to confirm Jyou's doubts at first. He wanted to abandon him and Jyou would have accepted his fate with a smile - and yet, he was absolutely ready to sacrifice his life to protect Takeru for Yamato's sake. It's that willingness, that selflessness that acts as a wake-up call to Yamato, making him realize how great of a friend Jyou really is, how foolish he was to have doubted him - and that's when his Crest of Friendship glows for the first time, thanks to Jyou's display of courage and his sense of Reliability.
It's one of their greatest moments, it softens and humbles them and causes each of them to think more highly of the other - especially Jyou is repeatedly displayed to take note of Yamato's behaviour and ends up continuously rescuing Takeru as a promise to Yamato (as well as to their mother). In general, it's a shame that there isn't more of a focus on them both being brothers who struggle with their roles in their respective families - but that doesn't mean that they don't keep inspiring each other:
In the Dark Masters Arc, Yamato leaves the group to figure himself, his path and the meaning of friendship out - whereas Jyou decides to stay behind with Mimi, continuously contemplating what his own path is after all. While they do not get to talk about it to each other, trying to resonate with Yamato helps Jyou to come to terms with making his own choices - and once he meets Yamato again, who freshly escaped from his Dark Cave, they share an encouraging smile and team up to pull Sora out of her spiraling sense of duty as well.
Duty, purpose and choices are continuous themes between them that come full circle once we reach the stageplay - which is why I chose the screenshot above as a header for this post. Because here, six years after their Digital World adventures, it's Jyou who came to terms with what he wants to do for himself, despite all the hardships, family obligations and other stress factors. Yamato on the other hand is seen struggling with the idea of growing up, making choices for himself and losing everyone in the process... Similar to how Koushirou asks Taichi to confide in him, Jyou is the one asking Yamato to do the same, encouraging him to choose for himself instead of "being chosen" - just like watching Yamato back then had inspired him to do the same.
As mentioned, it's a shame that canon hasn't provided more interactions between these two. They do feel linked together, since they're so vital for each other's emotional development - but neither 02 nor Tri nor Kizuna showed them having significant moments with each other. (Minus the fact that 02 basically gave them a similar hair length and seeing how Jyou always seems to adore and be inspired by Yamato, this may lead to a very interesting headcanon at least, but I digress.) There are little nods in the PSP game and while Jyou's adoration for Yamato shines through in the reboot as well, these instances of Adventure, the novel and the stageplay will at least forever live rent-free in my head.
Whether I think why and how they’d work.
I have once written an analysis post on who I think are the characters that bring out the best in each Chosen Child respectively - and while Yamato seems to be particularly hyperfocused on Taichi in all the more recent portrayals of Digimon, I still feel like Jyou is the one person that knows how to handle and reach him best. In more than one way. There is just a sense of fondness and patience I can sense between them, one that has been growing between them ever since they overcame their shortcomings (Jyou's timidness and Yamato's brashness) as children. Basically, you could say that they had to become the people they are as adults to be compatible with each other; Yamato is still a very emotional person who doesn't always know how to express these emotions properly - which is where I think Jyou would function as the reliable, calming rock he has eventually grown into, as depicted in the Kizuna shorts. I simply feel like he is capable of relaxing Yamato with absolute ease, encouraging him to open up or letting him have a ramble... And that may sound funny in return, but I also feel like Yamato has an equally calming effect on Jyou in general as well. Yamato used to be his anchor in Adventure, giving him direction and security and through his stressful doctor life, I think Yamato's presence could be a grounding factor as well.
In my Jyoumi analysis, I pointed out how Jyou may need someone with more outgoing energy levels to pull him out of his own head - but with Yamato, I feel like that isn't necessary, because they already contrast yet complement each other despite being more introverted. A lot of (more recent) fandom portrayals like to depict Yamato maintaining his rockstar aesthetic - and Kakudou's current vision of Yamato seems to go in a similar direction, so that may actually contribute to more adventurous aspects of their relationship (and really, if you aren't swayed by the idea of Jyou being Yamato's number 1 fan in the crowd, I cannot help you, it's one of most adorable things I can think of, even if it was just a one-sided crush).
Personally, I just see them as this absolutely chill couple as adults that would settle down doing sophisticated stuff like wine tastings, going to museums with Sora and Takeru (who would be absolutely delighted by them being together), having late-night dinners with Taichi and Koushirou, still shaking their heads over their friends (Taichi and Mimi in particular)... I just get warm, floofy butterflies in my stomach when I think of them.
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship.
As you may have been able to tell, I absolutely adore them as a romantic ship - mainly because I feel like Jyou is the most romantically compatible character to Yamato in the entire series due to the mutually calming vibe they give me. I'm still sad canon doesn't even give us much when it comes to them, so the sea-themed official art that dropped this year displaying them as captains of the ship felt like the most nurturing breadcrumb ever. I would love to see more of their platonic bond, but if I had anything to say, I would adore seeing these two end up with each other.

He can't pay for that. Nuh uh.
"I'll pay for him. Only if you stop bullying my friend" Michael stepped in from nowhere (do not ask) and handed the Kaiser a wallet with the double of the money.
"Rich people can do everything huh..." Daisuke blinked.
. . . I've sent an updated bill for 50,000 American dollars, to be paid in full by next week
Or else I start smashing TVs

Daisuke had been working harder on this recipe for days and he needed an approval from his friends, so he just grabbed the most brutally honest person he knows in his entire life:
“Thanks for the help Iori! I hope this recipe is good to become part of the future Ramen Motomiya business!”
V-mon gently placed the bowl in front of their guest, and one for Armadimon as well.
“Enjoy!!” the blue digimon said with a cheerful and hopeful tone.

RE: CONNECT -- relationship chart.
Rui → Alleged 1st Chosen Child (1996); partner: Ukkomon
Daisuke → Chosen Child from April 2002; partner: V-mon
Ayame → Chosen Child from September 2003; partner: Cutemon
Daisuke is connected to the 02 group + Chosen Children Network
Rui ⇆ Ayame ⇆ Hiroomi: Childhood friends since kindergarten (They lost contact with Rui since March 2003)
Daisuke ⇆ Rui: Friends since 2012 (Rui might have a crush on him?)
Daisuke ⇆ Hiroomi: Some sort of coworkers (Hiroomi is a delivery boy who sometimes stops by Yamatoya Ramen either for work or to chill. He knows Daisuke, but not enough).
[edit] Profiles ahead:
Ohwada Rui [ 大和田ルイ ] – The alleged first Chosen Children’s origins, 20 years old. With a very troublesome childhood, he managed to solve his issues with Ukkomon on his birthday, Feb 29, thanks to Daisuke and the others. Now he lives a normal yet calm life with Ukkomon. Due to a certain incident in March 2003 he had avoided human contact in fear of being called a ‘freak’, making his relationships with people quite difficult. He’s trying his best to form new bonds, but with no success. He works at Infinity Cafe, a coffee shop owned by his cousin and her husband, as a barista.
Ukkomon [ ウッコモン ] – Rui’s digimon partner, and allegedly to be connected to something bigger like a god entity from the Digital World. Despite all the slips committed by him, Rui made amends with him and then both then started to work harder to get to know each other better. He is still learning what he is allowed to do and what not.
Nakajima Ayame [ 中島あやめ ] – Rui’s childhood friend and a Chosen Child from September 2003. She is a 20 year old nice girl who doesn’t like to watch people getting into fights, so she keeps wishing to be able to have something in hands that could heal people. With this in mind, she decided to pursue a medical career – at least something little and not big, something like being a nurse to assist people in need, taking care of them. Before Ukkomon, she was a little nervous to talk with Rui, because he would always be the target of the bullies and she feared getting involved in those fights. But once Ukkomon appeared, she witnessed that strange creature standing up for Rui… She got courage enough to talk with him, and become one of his first friends at the kindergarten. She would always be carrying a first aid kit with her in her young days, helping Rui and Hiroomi. She might not like ugly fights, but she can stand up for others a little once she has gotten older, and she keeps simply checking on others like a good friend. She still uses pigtails, even if lower now as an adult.
Cutemon [ キュートモン ] – Ayame’s digimon partner. Cutemon is a digimon who’s not a fighter and yes a healer. Cutemon never managed to evolve but she does not feel she’s the type to fight tough enemies, so she sticks by just healing everyone with her healing magic skills. She’s quite timid and resembles the child Ayame to some extent, but the difference is she doesn’t fear befriending others when she gets an interest in them and is willing to form connections.
Koyama Hiroomi [ 小山広臣 ] – Rui and Ayame’s childhood friend, 20 year old. Hiroomi is a good, funny and supportive friend type, but he had some issues of being a little coward. He could witness Rui getting bullied and would want so hard to go there and stop them, but his body would just freeze and he couldn’t even say anything. Yeah he had the trouble of not being able to help others due to fear. Ukkomon worked as some sort of role model to go and make a difference. He wouldn’t get into a fist fight with anyone, but he would simply call them out and keep cheering Rui up. His funny aura was quite captivating too, and he definitely noticed he and Rui had something in common which was them being quite non-confrontational, except Hiroomi was able to voice his needs and feelings quite better than Rui. When Rui suddenly stopped going to school in March 2003, he tried to ask everyone around about his friend, with Ayame’s help too, and this is how they learned by rumors that something had happened to Rui. But he and Ayame never had success in contacting Rui for a long LONG time. When he turned an adult he decided to dye his bangs, and adopted a more stylish appearance. He doesn’t know what he wants to pursue as a career, but his part-time job is just being a delivery boy. He likes vehicles though, and his scooter is his best friend (besides Ayame, of course).
Motomiya Daisuke [ 本宮大輔 ] – A 21 year old Chosen Child from April 2002 who saved the world countless times at the moment. He became Rui’s friend in 2012, when the mysterious giant egg incident happened. Daisuke is not that smart, but he has a heart of gold, and the ability to say some insightful things from time to time. He’s a pragmatic person, doesn’t think too hard on stuff and is always trying to help everyone in need. Daisuke works at Yamatoya Ramen and is allowed to run his own business – Motomiya Ramen – there on Tuesdays. He knows Hiroomi as a coworker of sorts, since Hiroomi is a delivery boy who goes to Yamatoya Ramen either for work or to chill on his days off. Even though their relationship is professional and they don't know much about each other.
V-mon [ ブイモン ] – Daisuke’s digimon partner and business partner. V-mon is not much different from Daisuke, and he’s very much in sync with his human partner. V-mon loves chocolate, which makes Rui always spoil him with anything chocolate-flavored when Daisuke and V-mon drop by at the cafe.
