by digimon anomalies i meant like when the digimon causes disturbs in digital stuff in the human world, but before Feb 2012 that peculiar skill has amplified to at least sense the digimon around -- not enough headaches, you notice he didn't flinch all the time…? like the scene where they approach the egg on Paildramon, he didn't seem to feel headaches though…? so maybe in the DW he might not flinch around the digimon because it might be stable, unless it's an enemy causing distortions somewhere around him…?

Since he had that peculiar digimon eye for almost a whole decade, Rui had developed some sensibility to anything related to the Digital World -- digimon anomalies, digital gates, etc...

In his days with the digi-eye he would feel it... the digimon nearby hiding in his middle and high schools, partner digimon that were waiting for their human partners somewhere in those areas. He didn't hate the digimon, but he was afraid of his choice -- his wish -- have condemned an entire civilization to forced partnerships, forced to fight to protect humans like servants.

He never wished that though. So he disliked how that digimon eye, incompatible with his own human, organic body, could sense those critters and even other digital life's stuff, like gates and distortions.

He would witness every news report on the digimon and feel anxious, because once again another digimon battle has occurred.

It was his curse and punishment for surviving after all.

... But, once he realized what he had to do in order to solve his long petty fight with Ukkomon... He started to understand why the digimon would fight until their very end to protect someone partnered to them.

Because they loved their human partners, and their human partners loved them back.

A mutual relationship, bonds of friendship that go beyond the universe's logics. The strength all those people with their digimon possess, the reason they would fight for each other and to protect both worlds... and even other ones as well.

Was he being an hypocrite? Or was just him unable to see that truth until he met Daisuke and the others, witnessing their strong bonds with their digimon and proving to him that those bonds were indeed real?

That didn't matter anymore, since he had solved the issue and changed his mind about those critters.

But... once the digi-eye was gone... He thought his weird connection to the digimon was "over".

...

Except not.

On a random, ordinary day... Rui sensed something wrong with himself. That stupid headache he would get nearby any digimon anomaly or digital gate was back. Or was it still there and only now he realized that?

Yes, he would feel headaches nearby digital anomalies and not notice it, and they would just disappear when Daisuke and the others just solved the case.

At first, this discovery made him annoyed, very annoyed. But later, he just started to get used to it, to having that 'superpower' anyway...

The one to understand how Rui felt was Hikari, because of her having some psychic powers as well. She kindly offered him assistance and told him her own experiences with those specific powers.

"Aren't you... bothered with them?"

"Not anymore. Because it makes me able to help others too."

Hikari's words just made him realize... there may exist a good way to use that ability...!

And now he just uses it to aid his friends, and other Chosen Children, whenever he senses something related to digimon anomalies and digital gates opening somewhere.

Rui got a sixth sense after the movie events. or he always had them since the aftermath of March 26 2003 events.

Some HC(s) i had been waltzing around with a few friends' ideas/theories regarding his injured eye.

TW: eye injury (eye/body horror; blood) + 02TB spoilers

Well, while i make this ambiguous enough based on the few factors that we don't know enough about how bad was Rui's eye injury because Ukkomon immediately slapped the digi-eye on him...

One of my friends (dubbed "friend A") thought that there's a possibility that the digi-eye had "frozen" the injury while was still there. Another of my friends (dubbed "friend B") had told us she had a small tiny bitty cut on her eyebrow once and it bleed a ton that one of her doctor friends explained to her that area easily bleeds a lot.

The thing is, the scene happens too fast. The intent of it is to show that Ukkomon was extremely scared and did not think twice, was exaggerating (remember: the impact is never shown, it blackout the screen the moment it hits Rui's face. besides that, there's no blood in the digivice, but surely he did get hurt.) for something that could've been salvaged if someone had taken him to the hospital.

The fact the eye magically is slapped into Rui's face possibly made friend A come with this theory of the digi-eye "freezing" the injured human eye. (Look at how sparkly and shining this frame is, and not... whatever people was attempting to describe this scene two years ago. Also i'm pretty sure the blood on his face is not from the friggin digi-eye slapped in it but from the injury itself... if anyone had any doubt of it)

Well, I'm glad that at the end of the movie we still see his eye is injured (hence the scar on the eye) and i kept writing stuff as "once the injury was 'unfrozen', he possibly had struggles to go to a doc and see if there was anything he could do so it was too late or pointless now. It doesn't matter to him since he got used to it, even if he got some limitations (like, he can't drive if i researched correctly?)

Another friend (dubbed "friend C") theorized that, since Rui cannot even use the digi-eye (he can't even blink with it!?), his body was not compatible with a digital being eye, therefore he possibly had headaches (considering he does get one when BigUkkomon hatches?) thanks to that.

I also noticed that, while Rui cannot do ANYTHING with the digi-eye, there's at least two scenes he's crying with it --

-- or having a tear run down on his right side of his face.

I theorized this was Ukkomon's feelings/tears as well. Not that was just Rui "crying" alone (if you watch the scene of the first pic... you will notice he really has no control over that eye -- it doesn't blink/close when he blinks/closes his other eye) -- therefore we subtly (or unsubtly) get to see a bit of Ukkomon's own feelings in these two scenes.

So... now that all things are solved, i'd like to believe Rui's depiction of his disabled/injured eye is more likely other ways in media and not just "eye closed with a scar". I mean like, perhaps the "white eye" or "no-iris eye" version, with the scar visible on his right eyelid.

And oh, he would totally continue with the eyepatch :V Because he looks cooler and badass with it, don't y'all agree?!

[Digi-theory/HC] Rui and his connection with the 02 group post-movie/post-drama CD

One of the things from the drama CD that I noticed is that deep down there is something that feels like Rui trying to keep a reasonable distance from the 02 group, or at least from Miyako, Iori, Takeru and Hikari. The track definitely does not have Daisuke nor Ken present until themselves appear in it.

Rui and Ken have a lot in common than we can think -- Ken also tried to stay away from Daisuke and co. due to his own crimes and even believing he would be disturbing their teamwork... Only to get Miyako pissed at him distancing from them in a moment they really needed his help against a strong enemy. And after said episode, you can notice how Ken started to be more and more involved with that group... Enough to inviting them for a Christmas party at his home.

(i suppose it was either his idea, or he mused it with Wormmon or even his mom due to the fact she was indeed emotional over her house having lots of children laughter and seeing Ken really happy compared to how gloomy and emotionless their home was before Ken finally became friends with the 02 group. I'd prefer to believe all of the three had came with this, because i love to see Ken's family healing together.)

And Rui... we don't know how long had passed from Feb 28-19 2012 and this track, but I really think it takes place on summer which is possibly around June-August 2012. I keep thinking Rui tried his best to not "bother" his new friends, and he had a long time to recover from the contents of the movie events (like, from his own childhood to his 20th birthday that year) and he possibly refused any kind of invite the 02 kids made to hang out or just chitchat.

However, i believe he is part of their group chat and they have online contact. Maybe not on a daily basis, but they are still in touch with him. It feels like the 02 group may still be in touch with Wallace too, and the older six + Take-Hika with Meiko, but that's not the main topic here. What i mean is...

Maybe, and i say a big big MAYBE... Rui may not like to feel he's bothering others and he would definitely not want to get involved with 8/1 parties or festivities.

At least until he gets over the idea he's disturbing the group's ecosystem and that he shouldn't get involved with things not related to him (or rather, "things i shouldn't get involved because i have no emotional attachment like the others, therefore my presence may just be awkward and ruin everyone's mood") -- because deep down Rui does not want to feel he's forcing others to include himself into those stuff (out of pity him, perhaps?) and being the "late newcomer" to a group of people who had known each other for a whole decade sounds really awkward.

(and, i'll say i may be putting a bit of my own experiences here too...)

Therefore he will prefer to do anything else with them another time, or not with EVERYONE involved (unless they all convince him he's not bothering them and he's extremely welcomed to join in) to not feel like the "seventh wheel" in a group of six people with strong bonds of friendship.

I'm not talking about starting a convo with me and sharing your stuff -- which means you want me to see your cool stuff and engage on a convo with me (and with anyone i'm talking with if it is a convo between two or more people already).

Hottest take and idc what others think about this movie or Ukkomon, so i'll be brutally honest here:

Ukkomon WAS a good parent for Rui despite all the issues he and Rui had, Rui himself admits Ukkomon was the only one who lend him a help and saved him, and if you think like "that" scene means Ukkomon was cruel and heartless, then you have to remember a few things:

Rui was already going to get hit when by his mom when Ukkomon first used his Liar Dream technique on her. It was to defend and protect a child from physical abuse.

Also, Liar Dream does not kill the victim. What happened was probably the overuse of that technique on two people on the verge of dying. Rui's mom is seen in constant stress before Ukkomon appeared, therefore she was probably going to die soon or later without Ukkomon's intervention. I suppose the implication is that they died on the way because Ukkomon did not cure them, only just brainwashed them, and those tentacles are not even part of the hijacking minds technique. He was probably nurturing and keeping the bodies healthy.

The problem with Ukkomon's actions is that he didn't know what was right and what was wrong. And since Rui wasn't totally talking to him, Ukkomon started to run off the rails assuming what would be good for Rui. According to Ukkomon, he assumed that if Rui was smiling this meant Rui was happy. And we all know how Rui was probably masking those smiles as result of his abusive mother.

Also, Rui passed down the abuse behavior to Ukkomon and had done the SAME awful things his mom had done to him -- Assuming Ukkomon was evil (as parallel of Rui's mom assuming Rui "never kept his promises") and only had done what he wanted to do (as parallel of Rui's mom assuming Rui "didn't want to obey her") and then being quite violent when Ukkomon did not do something he wanted the way he wanted (which is a parallel of his mom giving him vague orders and getting violent when Rui did not execute them the way she wanted)

I do not believe Rui ever HATED Ukkomon like the popular belief. I think Rui was feeling betrayed and taking off conclusions to the point he started to assume Ukkomon was malicious and cruel. Because if the track 3 makes him just admit "Ukkomon was the only one who helped me when i needed the most" he's being legitimately and heck, Ukkomon did not gaslight him, i don't buy any interpretation that both of them were still stuck in a shitty toxic human-digimon partnership and i will BLOCK whoever come to me to assume Ukkomon is vile and etc. Rui and Ukkomon loved each other like a legit good family. And they broke the abuse cycle and are living good lives now. Period.

Happy father's day to the one who helped Rui and gave him a good taste of what a good family environment would've been.
