Finally properly starting Vox Machina after making it to (almost the end of) episode 28 and I must say, having watched the first three episodes, my two favorite things have GOT to be (so far):

Actual Anime Protagonist Percy (I counted at least four Classic Anime Protagonist moments, including the Flashing Glasses, and His Whole Intro, not to mention His Different Colored Hair)

Animated Matthew Mercer in every episode??? (Like srsly I have seen him animated as a background character in all three episodes I have watched and it is FANTASTIC like YES let the DM voice every third character and show up 20+ times in the back!!!)

There are definitely others but those are the ones I feel most strongly atm.

Throwing my hat into the elves and culture discussion, I think one of the things that I find most... upsetting is _what_ Bioware took from Judaism to make their elves. Which is to say, not a lot. What they took was Jewish history - ghettos, diaspora, and blood libel. The bad parts. Stuff about our oppression. Not stuff from Judaism as a religion or Jews as a culture. We don't get to see elves celebrate any cognates to Jewish holidays. There's no equivalent of kashrut or Yiddish or Ladino (despite that not making sense with the Dales being around for four centuries). The two most defining features of Dragon Age elves, the vallaslin and the Evanuris, directly contradict Jewish teachings. Jews started writing down our history and laws as soon as we lost our homeland and independence to Babylon, but it's written into the fabric of Dragon Age that the elves didn't, and their story is one of obtaining a lost past, not preserving a remembered one. It's even indicated that the city elves largely worship the Maker.

In thoughtful hands this could be a story about how Jews are seen as a religion when it's convenient to oppress us one way and a race when it's convenient to oppress us another, but it's not. Instead the impression I am left with is that in the mind of Dragon Age, Jews are defined solely by our oppression.

this came up earlier when an anon asked about making an elven oc from a (marginalised) cultural context they themselves aren’t from and i think it always comes down to a question of whether oppression and suffering are the only things you’re interested in or whether you care enough to learn about community, family and joy. and bioware seems to fail to clear this bar every time it comes to the elves.

i truly think some of the most incredible work in this fandom has come from fans putting those things back into the setting.

YES! Well, RPG!Axel really likes to use daggers, for example the ones on his belt (I know they don't look like them, but they are daggers 😅), and one in particular that he keeps hidden:

Oh, and this is the only dagger whose power, in addition to being able to function normally, works stronger, the blows are very strong, agile and assertive, it doesn't miss a single blow :]

He sometimes uses and carries axes and sickles, but he really focuses on daggers and other small weapons. His melee style still wins in strength but daggers also help sometimes ^^

I don't understand why writers keep bringing up KittyPiotr as a relationship because it seems like a deeply destructive thing to do for both of them, but obviously particularly Colossus, and low-key the X-Men as a whole. And it's like, you don't need to bring it up! You could just put it as "They used to date as teenagers but don't anymore, and are now just friends" but making Colossus act like the love of his life is the girl he met when she was thirteen is not, never has been and never will be a good look! And if you're trying to depict this man sympathetically, why keep bringing it up??? Like it feels so destructive to his character, like if you liked him you'd let him move on!

Okay this damn video. A couple of things.

It's canon that Buck baked cookies for Christopher's class?? Buck has gotten Chris ready for school. Buck has cooked meals for both Eddie and Chris multiple times. Buck has helped Chris with his homework. Buck takes Chris out all the time. Buck has given him life advice. We don't see Henren or Athena and Michael doing those things daily either does that mean they're not the parents? 🧍🏽

I don't know why they think Chris calling Buck 'dad' would in any way or form take away the importance of Eddie being his biological dad. This person seems to think someone can only have one dad in their lives. Step-parents exist? Queer parents?? Foster parents?? They're not any less because they're not your biological father? Some biological fathers don't even deserve to be a father.

They also seem to think you're only a parent if you both do the exact same things for a kid, which is not true at all. Parents have different roles they play and different sets of responsibilities. One parent will be more into the emotional aspect and the other might handle day-to-day things. One parent might have a career that doesn't allow them to spend as much time with their kids as the other. Yeah, some parents might share all the same responsibilities but mostly they don't! This is so common in ANY family. You're not less of a parent if you don't make breakfast for your kid to school lol.

When you tell someone "there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you", in this world, that is beyond any fun uncle territory. That is a co-parent.

Chris ran to Buck first when he was mad at his own dad. Chris most likely has Buck's address memorized because he called Uber. Chris didn't want to talk to Eddie but was willing to talk to Buck.

I'm convinced people like these watch a completely different show than the rest of us because Buck's involvement in the Diaz family is NOT just as a fun uncle. The Will itself is the biggest proof (despite their clown ass dismissing it). You don't name the 'fun uncle' as a legal guardian. You will choose someone who you know will step into the role of a parent for your child; someone who will take over all of your responsibilities as a parent in case something happens to you. If you wanna' see what a fun uncle looks like then look at Chim with Denny. Look at Buck with Jee-Yun. That's fun uncle.

You don't have to be romantically involved to be a co-parent but the fact that they're saying even if they date he won't ever be Chris' dad?? Reeks of homophobia and hetero normative bs if you ask me.

Also I hope the last episode was a slap to their face because 'fun uncles' don't get that involved in family matters. Eddie's parents didn't even ask why Buck was there 🤷🏽

They can say whatever they want but it doesn't negate canon. Buck is co-parenting with Eddie. Buck will never be the dad that is Eddie because that belongs to Eddie, true. But he can be another dad to Chris and it doesn't make him any less of a parent for that.

their bio name is Judith but started going by Judas after their family was killed for anonymity reasons? ( tbh they weren't very smart with it bc both names have the first 3 letters but you get the idea ). They're mainly referred to as Judas by their cult and " Judy " by Naenia/Their Narinder ( quick note some info on that is most likely outdated )

actually has a decent/positive relationship with Naenia ( granted it wasnt like that at first especially because they were planning to betray Naenia after slaying the bishops but at the end they couldn't bring themselves to kill her so they spared her )

less hung up abt being a cult leader compared to Solange but prefers to use " Herd " instead of cult ( sounds better to them personally )

speaking of their cult during vesselhood it was kind of a shitshow due to them not knowing how to properly keep the faith up so there were a shit ton of dissenters ( didn't help that they were pretty aggressive to their followers too. ) postgame They got the hang of running their cult/herd and is less aggressive to their followers ( it helps that Naenia is sort of the secondary leader in a way )

They train their followers to fight so returning to missionaries alive is greatly increased

as i mentioned before in Solange's universe ( which i'll dub the lambverse ) Judith/Judas also existed and was close with Solange but ended up getting killed by heretics sometime before Solange's execution ( stabbed multiple time in the stomach )

on the flipside in Judas' universe the Solange there was also close to them and unfortunately got killed by heretics(?) sometime before Judas' death ( throat was slit )

as a result Judas (Goatverse) and Solange (Lambverse) had an instant connection and bonded fast.

there is angst related to the fact that they aren't exactly the same as their alternate universe counteparts ( the ones that died )

Judas often hangs around Solange's cult and helps her with training her followers to fight
