I think we all can agree as the Hades fandom that when Zagreus was a baby they just tossed him to Achilles and told him to "train him" the him we're talking about is a literal infant ancd i fon't think Achilles was good with kids lol ( he definetly panicked when he was given the baby at first) so Achilles ended up being a dad for Zagreus, he teached him how to fight, and being polite (in a way. Zag is in his teenage rebellion era shhh) what to do and what not to and also listened to his problems like how he did in the game when Zagreus talks about killing alive creatures like satyrs and vermin AND HE IS A 1000 TIMES BETTER DAD THAN HADES

One advantage(?) of taking so long on a fic is that after a while you begin to feel some separation between you and the text and then you’re reading back through the older stuff just like any other reader and anyway YEAH Achilles reminding Zagreus of his mother was such a throwaway line in the game but there’s SO much to work with in that one simple idea??? It makes me isane… plus me being the author and knowing that I’m actually going somewhere with this… IM FALLING DOWN THE STAIRS

“Zagreus? Are… are you alright?” A stupid question, but he had to start somewhere.

Zagreus didn’t respond, so Achilles sat on the other edge of the bed and waited. It was soft and plush under his weight. The prince would speak in his own time. Returning to his usual talkative self eventually.

Until then, Achilles was more than content to wait next to him. It was better than anxiously standing guard at his post.

That being said, he felt useless just sitting there. How does one comfort a god dealing with teenage angst? Talking was out of the question since he didn’t know what to say, and he was sure the last thing Zagreus wanted right now was a lecture. He looked over at the lyre that stood proudly against the wall. Would music help? Regardless, the god-sized instrument was far too large for his mortal hands. Perhaps he could hum instead? No, that’s obnoxious and even more rude.

Achilles continued to look around the room, there doesn’t appear to be anything he could give him. The last thing he could think of was some sort of physical touch. Lending a comforting hand to Zagreus might be unsound; it could be the cure to his anger or it could make his temper flare.

Trusting his gut, he carefully placed his hand on the prince’s head.

With no visible sign of protest, Achilles slowly ran his hand through the dark strands. He hoped the repetition of his petting would be soothing. Minutes passed without any words or motion from the godling. Achilles wasn’t sure what to do next, then there was a small movement beneath his fingers. The prince’s head turned to reveal a single chthonic eye that was wet with tears.

“‘Chilles…” He sniffed, his voice cracking.

“Hello Zagreus.” Achilles whispered, a small grin growing in his face. Zagreus turned his head fully to the side, his eyes puffy from crying. “Are you feeling any better, lad?” He hadn’t ceased the incessant stroking of Zagreus’ hair.

“A little.”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“Not particularly.” The godling mumbled.

“Do you want me to stop?”

Zagreus shook his head.

“Alright, take your time.” Achilles said.

Not a question, I just wanted to say that after reading the 15th chapter of Agua Caliente I spiraled into a full on mental breakdown, so I'd rate that chapter 11/10 👍

Oh gosh. I hope you are feeling better now. I have to be honest, I didn't quite anticipate the reactions from this chapter, in fact I'd meant to write an author's note warning it was mostly just Dadchilles doing dad things which I worried would be a bit boring, but the response has been really nice 💕💕

Took me two days of hyperfixation, but the rough sketch is done!!!! Also the Achilles and Persephone comparisons and similarities KILL ME considering Achilles was the one to raise Zagreus with Nyx instead of her, which I'm sure would result in a lot of Emotions.

(You can pry away the parent!Achilles hc from my cold dead hands, he raised zagreus as his son and u can't convince me otherwise)

AAA YES!!! 🥺🥺🥺 zag tied a string to it and would drag it around the house when he was younger. it drove hades insane with the noise it made, but Achilles loved seeing zag happy
