Tumblr media
Pairing : Dad!Bucky x Reader
Word Count : 2.3k
Warnings : a little angsty + fluff
Synopsis : Bucky catches baby fever.
I got about three other anon requests just like this one! So, anon's I hope you enjoy. Apologies for any mistakes!
Teacher’s Favorite AU | Masterlist
Bucky had been a little odd recently.
You weren't exactly sure why, but you didn't question it really. He'd been sleeping in a lot more and generally seemed out of it. Naturally you pinned his behavior onto the fact he'd been working a bit more but it was beginning to worry you.
"James." You said in a very serious tone. Surprised he whipped his head around giving you a worried look. "M'not in trouble, am I?" He asked, looking up at you as you approached. He was spread out on the couch with his leg draped over the side - honestly he looked very comfortable. His blue eyes looked tired and he looked a little scruffier than usual.
Not that it mattered to you.
He was still your Bucky.
Putting your hands on his face you leaned down giving him a brief kiss. "I'm worried about you." You said honestly. He gave you a look like he wanted to argue but he knew better than to do that. You knew he was aware of his change in demeanor, but he didn't share the same worry as you.
"Oh. Sweetheart, I'm alright. I'm just tired."
Oh what an excuse.
It was hard to argue with that one, but you knew better. "James. You've been waking up at ten every morning for the past week, and you've barely had a conversation with me. That's not you just being tired. You're bothered by something." You said, no hint of malice in your tone. Letting out a gruff sigh he reached out pulling you down to lay on top of him. Of course you made no effort to pull away, only leaning further into him. His reaction only worried you more as you awaited his response.
"Is it something to do with Collin and Elaine?"
Bucky rolled his eyes viciously before groaning. "No. That's an entirely separate issue. Don't get me started." He said, slipping his hands underneath your shirt lightly scratching your back. Recently Elaine had been talking about a boy a little too much, and needless to say it made Bucky moody. He'd overheard her talking about Collin and how nice he was, and he walked around like a wounded puppy for the better part of the day.
He'd spent the rest of the night recounting all the times that she'd promised she'd never need a boy whenever she was little. As sweet as it was to see him be protective of her, it was also jarring to see him genuinely upset over the fact she was growing up so fast. The day she'd started seventh grade you thought you were going to have to scrape him off the floor of the building.
"If it's any consolation Collin is a sweet boy."
Bucky kissed your forehead with a sigh. "I'm sure he is. Doesn't mean I want him being buddy buddy with my baby girl." He said with a childish huff. Laughing you patted his cheek, returning to the main subject.
"Then what is it, Buck?" You asked quietly. His response was to hold onto you a little bit tighter, and you waited patiently.
He had trouble expressing himself sometimes, especially if he felt like he was being a burden. No matter how much you told him otherwise, he still would rather carry the weight himself. Resting your head against his chest you listened to him breathe for awhile, wishing you could just read his mind.
"What did you think about seeing Wanda's boys?"
The question was odd and you didn't quite catch the implication. Tommy and Billy were perhaps the cutest babies you'd ever seen. Just absolute dream children with their perfect little noses and bright eyes. Though it was quite the spectacle to watch Bucky fight back tears as he held the both of them.
"Oh, they're adorable. Why do you ask?" You looked up at him curiously. There was a little glimmer in his eyes you couldn't quite identify, and you tilted your head to the side. "I don't know..." He said, nervously reaching up to scratch his neck. You watched as his cheeks flushed and you nearly gasped at the sight. It wasn't often that he got all bashful, but when he did you cherished the sight of it.
"Bucky! You're blushing! Oh my god, what's wrong?" You laughed kissing him sweetly. His eyes looked everywhere but directly at you. There was an almost worried energy coming from him, and it was very out of character.
"I don't know...Elaine's making me feel old. She's not a baby anymore. Seeing Wanda's boys...just made me think a little bit."
Finally you felt like you were understanding the issue, but you weren't going to supply yourself with a false hope. "Think about what?" You asked, feigning some cluelessness. Shifting around he finally caught your eyes, most likely catching the anticipation in them. Still he couldn't seem to find the words to explain himself. "Because it sounds like you caught a vicious case of baby fever." You said teasing him a little.
Groaning he put his hands on his face clearly trying to hide his embarrassment. "Aw, Bucky! I love you so much." You pouted trying to pull at his hands. "I do not have baby fever. They were just cute babies, and I miss when Elaine was all tiny and told me boys were gross," he paused "and I wouldn't mind having one again."
There it is.
Finally prying his hands from his face you looked at him with a smile. This seemed like a natural progression of your relationship. You'd been dating for six years and married for two, but you'd never had a conversation about babies before. In your mind you assumed Bucky wasn't too into the idea of more kids, but clearly you couldn't read his mind. Still it was flattering to think that he'd even thought about having a baby with you. Not that either of you were strangers to the art of baby making, but he was always careful.
"Bucky, if you want a baby let's fuckin' make one."
His eyes went wide and he laughed. "That mouth will get you in trouble." He said giving you a look. Rolling your eyes you listened to him scoff at your false attitude. Rolling off of him you stood up stretching your arms out. "I can't tell if you're jokin' or not." He said, a nervous edge to his voice.
Straightening out your shirt you put your hands on your hips. The way he was looking up at you with pleading eyes mirrored his daughter a little too much. It must've been a Barnes' thing to pout like that. "I can't tell if you're joking or not. Why would you want a baby with me if you've already got a perfect daughter?" You countered, letting out that bit of insecurity you didn't even know you held on to. Bucky said your name in a very stern tone, furrowing his eyebrows together.
"Sweetheart, why wouldn't I want a baby with you? You're my wife. Whenever I look at you I see the love of my life and the mother of my children. Just thinkin' about a little you runnin' around makes me want to cry. I love you so much, of course I want a baby with you."
Ever the romantic your Bucky was.
The look in his eyes was nothing but genuine. Reiterating the fact that he did love you as much as you love him. There was no room for doubt when it came to Bucky. He made sure you knew what you meant to him. It was still hard to fathom that you were lucky enough to have him.
Holding back the urge to cry you leaned down kissing him sweetly. A kiss packed with the emotions you couldn't express verbally. "What are you waiting on Barnes?" You laughed against his lips before you were promptly swept off your feet and carried up the stairs.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
It never occurred to you how stressful trying to get pregnant could've been. Movies make it out to be as if one wrong move during sex and you immediately get pregnant. You quickly learned that wasn't the case. In fact you now had a notebook in order to track your ovulation and then the respective results of a pregnancy test.
The both of you had been trying for two months, and you were slowly losing faith in yourself. Test after test seeing that same negative sign made you worry if something was wrong with you – if Bucky would be upset with you. He never was though. He would sit on the bathroom floor with you, somehow managing to make you smile despite the fact you were disappointed in yourself.
"Hey, we're gonna try again."
"Pretty girl, don't be upset. We're gettin' there."
"I love you so much, sweetheart. I know it's frustrating."
As much as his words meant to you, it was still emotionally draining. Elaine noticed almost immediately. Asking vague questions trying to get an answer from you, but it was too much for you to bare. The last thing you wanted to do was get her hopes up just to let her down.
Bucky ended up talking to her about it though, and she was nothing short of thrilled at the idea. She was never discouraged though. No matter the results she would give you a big smile and promise you the next time would be it.
This particular day you had an odd hope within you though. Bucky was lying in bed reading an article on his phone, while Elaine was staring in the bathroom mirror as you braided her hair. "Have you taken one yet?" She asked, motioning towards the box of tests on the counter. You shook your head tying off the end of her braid.
"Are you nervous?" She turned to look at you with bright eyes. Taking a breath you couldn't help but smile at the hopeful look in her eyes. You had to admit there was a little flutter in your stomach that was giving you a sense of excitement. "Always. I'm feeling a little lucky though." You said raising an eyebrow at her.
"What's with all the whispering? I feel left out girls."
Bucky leaned against the doorframe glasses perched on his nose. "No one was whisperin', old man. You just can't hear anymore." Elaine said laughing at her own words. Scrunching his nose he reached out pulling her into a bear hug just to make her complain. Rolling your eyes at their antics you opened up on of the tests, going over the instructions you already knew by heart.
Turning around you gave them a gentle push out of the room. "Hey! What about me?" Bucky said pouting dramatically. You just smiled at him before closing the door. The anticipation in you was a little too much to handle. You went through the process hearing the both of them whispering outside the door.
Waiting patiently you paced back an forth, counting down the minutes before it was time to see the results. You were nervous you were hyping yourself up for nothing, but you were unbelievably hopeful. You couldn't bring yourself to look either.
Opening the door back up they were both staring at you expectantly. "I don't wanna look." You whispered. Bucky reached out wrapping his arms around you kissing your forehead. "Can I look?" Elaine asked putting her hand on your shoulder. Bucky nodded holding you a little bit tighter. You could tell he was just as nervous as you, maybe even more so. Pressing your face into his chest you waited patiently.
"What? What's that face?" Bucky asked. The urgency in his tone made you turn around. Elaine was looking at the both of you with wide eyes. Bucky pulled you over to the counter with him, looking down at the test. "Holy shit." He said. Your heart must've stopped. Hesitantly looking down at the white strip, you nearly fainted at the sight of the positive sign. Everything was quiet for a second.
"You're pregnant." Elaine said giving you a big smile. You were stunned. Almost not even processing the fact that Bucky was smothering you in kisses while Elaine shook your shoulders shouting excitedly. What really struck you was the tears the ran down Bucky's face as he held your face in his hands.
"Aw, honey, don't cry." You soothed, wiping the teardrops away, amazed by the unbridled joy in his eyes. Elaine was practically jumping around the both of you shouting incoherently about how excited she was. Never had you seen someone look at you the way he was. He slipped his hands under your shirt, the cool feeling of his ring against your stomach. "Are you kidding me? Of course I'm gonna cry. That's our baby." He sniffled looking down at where his hands rested.
"I'm a sister now!" Elaine said wrapping her arms around you. The emotions were overwhelming. The three – no, four of you cramped into the bathroom overflowing with joy. "Thank you. Oh my god, thank you sweetheart. I love you so much. You're the most amazing woman alive." Bucky wrapped his arms around the both of you.
"Oh, stop. I love you Bucky." You sighed into his shirt.
"Daddy's still got it."
You gasped smacking his arm while Elaine pulled away from the both you gagging dramatically. "Way to kill a moment there honey." You laughed watching Elaine give the both of you a disapproving look.
You smiled listening to the both of them go back an forth about the appropriateness of his comment. Never in a million years did you think you'd be in this situation, but you were more than grateful for them. You weren't sure how this would play out but you more than happy to have another Barnes' running around the house.

OK household hcs for the sitcom AU pt1 (This is subject to change 100%) (EDITED)
SBI + Mumza: Wilbur and Techno are twins, Techno is two mins older.
Phil is is a single dad working on an art teacher’s salary.
Mumza is living (previously i had her passed but i’ve changed my mind) Ngl I have no idea what the hell I want her job to be yet, i’ll edit when I figure it out!
Tommy is obviously the chaotic younger sibling, but Phil forced Tommy to get a job a so he could learn some sort of responsibility so he got a job at Bad and Skeppy’s coffee shop
Techno and Wilbur are both in college and living at home.
Wilbur decided to drop out of college and is currently working in a music store and in a band.
Techno is an English Major part time somewhere, not sure where right now.
Karlnapity + Skephalo + Ranboo: Karlnapity recently got married but they kinda got kicked out of their apartment so Bad and Skeppy took em’ in since Sapnap is Bad’s kid. Everyone is obviously still confused whether Bad and Skeppy are dating, even Sapnap.
Bad n’ Skeppy’s Coffee Shop is called Munchies! It’s pretty much a hang out spot for all the kids in the near by high school.
Quackity is a Law student, but on the side works at Munchies and is in Wilbur’s band
Karl is working on adding a book store integrated into Munchies
Sapnap works at Munchies and is expected to take it over and is 100% willing to.
Ranboo is Sapnap’s cousin. He was sorta dumped on Sapnap by his parents cause Ranboo’s parents travel a ton and didn’t want to constantly move him around. And Sapnap was like the closest relative at the time.
Hbomb and Eret: Them twos share an apartment.
Hbomb was supposed to be staying for only a few days while finding a place to rent out, but it just became months and he still doesn’t pay rent.
Hbomb doesn’t really have a job.. manz just does some odd jobs is he needs to make a quick buck. He used to be a pretty well know child/teen actor, but one day was like “fuck the fame!” and dumped all his money onto his mom and just showed up at Eret’s place one day and just hasn’t left since.
Eret is a very famous event planner who has done business with a multitude of celebrities. And despite how seriously intimidating they are on the outside, everyone who knows them personally knows Eret is like the nicest person every. But they will kick you in the balls with their heels if you try to mess with them.
H and Eret have also been friends since high school.
Puffychu, Foolish, Dream, and Drista (Yes this dynamic is gonna exist in this au and ya’ll can fight me on it): Foolish, Dream, and Drista are siblings, dream is the older of the three and Drista is the youngest.
In this au i like to have Dream to have gone to juvie when he was a kid (in reference to the prison thing in the smp) and manz right now works at an electronics store. Manz went to juvie cause he beat up a kid really badly when he was a kid. And now he is a better guy but he’s still a bit of a dick and there is an episode where he bumps into the kids he beat up and there’s a ton of character growth.
Foolish is an architecture student right now, manz is planning to open his own business n’ everything,
Drista is a chaotic child, and obviously the “alpha male” of the Chaos Kids. The girl can and will destroy you whenever she wants.
Puffy and Nikki own a flower shop also :P
Schlatt and Connor: Manz is a rich drunk ass scummy business man. He’s Quackity’s Ex. And friends with Connor, who ngl is the only person he has for a support system right now other than Puffy who checks up on him every few days. He lives in a fancy apartment but it’s like hella messy, manz is too paranoid for a maid. Manz is still hung up over Quackity even though it’s been a few years since they broke up and sends him flowers like weekly. Also in his AU Schlatt and Puffy are Siblings
Connor doesn’t actually live at Schlatt’s but he’s there so much he might as well be living there. He’s actually a decent guy who cares for Schlatt but on the outside he still acts like Connor. He works at the same grocery store as Tommy
Ant and Velvet: Ok Ant and Velvet obviously live together. it’s just a given. Ant works as a Vet and idk what Velvet’s job is.
Captain Sparklez, Crumb, Tubbo, n’ Lani: Sparklez is Crumb’s, Tubbo’s, and Lani’s Dad in the AU and Sparklez works as a car mechanic! Crumb is the youngest and Tubbo is the eldest!
Sparklez is a single Dad, his wife died a bit ago.. she worked along side him in the mechanic shop as the one who did the business side of things. He now does have a good hold of his business now but he was a mess when she died, for good reason.
Tubbo. Crumb, and Lani help him out around the shop a lot!

* you know rina benton-moa, right? they’re twenty-four, and they’ve lived in irving for, like, their whole life on and off? well, their spotify wrapped says they listened to reinvent by phoebe green like, a million times this year, which makes sense ‘cause they’ve got that whole fury encased by the reflection of daylight in the eyes; lines etched into skin from lifetimes over of squinting into midsummer skies, odd trinkets lined carelessly along a mantlepiece shrouded by aged dust, a split in the lip lancing keenly as the tongue darts out to wet it thing going on. i just checked and their birthday is july 15th, so they’re a cancer, which is unsurprising, all things considered.
hi i’m cee .. u all know me...... regrettably gone for a cutla weeks but now i’m back ready n waiting to finally write rina (rip to their intro i never wrote last time around) kisses u all so tenderly let us plot shall we.......
AESTHETICS.
a weather-worn baseball cap ( jacksonville jazz festival 1983 ) adorned with dried sweat akin to the rings of saturn that collects dust on the back seat of a car, neglected piles of unopened government letters spilling from a haphazard tower onto the floor, a moth-eaten cotton shirt, johnny cash at four a.m. on the jukebox hits radio station, hand me down trainers marred by crowsfoot grass stains, dollar store candy older than your own existence, blinking grocery store fluorescent lights, the acrid scent of tyres set aflame.
CHARA INSPO.
frankie ( animal kingdom ), theo ( catherine house ), libby bray ( dark places ), frances ( conversations with friends ), ruth ( ozark ), tommy ( never let me go )
BACKGROUND.
lilac ridge’s newest, unwelcome baby for 1997. rina’s mother is gone before they have the chance to memorise a voice, the touch of a hand on their fever-ridden forehead. she forever remains in old polaroids - their parents look happy here, sun-blushed and clutching amber bottles of schlitz. their dad tries and tries, often in a futile effort, to be the parent an unruly rina needs. that old woman in the trailer next to them hates the saturday morning cartoons that they play too loud: she says the catdog theme loops in her sleep, now.
TW NEGLECT despite the one or two friends rina manages to keep, school isn’t lonely. it’s lilac ridge that’s hollow, an ugly reflection of the way their father returns wordlessly to the chair found on hard rubbish collection day once, gesturing for a drink and waving them out of the trailer as he lights a cigarette. he doesn’t say he’s lonely. they’re too young to understand, or too foolhardy, and spends the afternoon fashioning bracelets from creek reeds until the cicadas quiet and the evening sky turns imperial violet, led back by constellations. some nights, rina isn’t there but in the alien comfort of a tentative friend’s trundle bed, eyes fixed on the owl nightlight and stereo that emits a soft tick as it reaches the end of a 4kids cd. TW END
the trailer is often empty without warning. rina’s in fernandina beach, florida one month. the next two, it is macon, georgia. the louisiana dirge for a friend of a friend of a friend’s funeral holds their attention better than any maths teacher can. to make friends is hard, but money is money and it puts food on the table. rina becomes used to tucking away their life in a tattered rucksack. prized possessions are rare. when they find one, it makes a home at the very bottom of their bag, cushioned by old newspaper and a spare pair of socks.
one tepid night, rina wakes to a clear desert sky wheeling above them. in the front seat, knees cramped under a too-thin blanket, their father is nowhere to be found in the street emptied by midnight. without keys the radio doesn’t start. for hours, they wait in silence for him to return. he does, eventually, fifty dollars short and reeking of beer.
TW DEATH live and let die — an eighty-cent find from a gas station in texas that exists permanently under a layer of dust some time in the nineties, the garish yellow sticker stubbornly remains on the back window of her father’s car. it’s not a day after his funeral that she peels it off. cirrhosis and failing lungs, they say. the more stubborn parts of the sticker come away easily by the blade of a pocket knife and sat on the bottom cinder block step to the now-empty trailer back at lilac ridge, rina sets it alight. the sticker melts and warps above the flame. heat stings the pad of their thumb that grips to the top of it for as long as they can bear it and the melted bits stick to the hem of the navy dress the old lady next door lent them for the day. she asks if they need anything else. they say no. TW END
at sixteen, nobody has impeccable financing. rina doesn’t leave irving until after graduating high school, sustenance made off cup noodles that they microwave despite the label saying not to, a quick buck made to sit the SAT for that quarterback who thinks he’s hot shit, yale material, for the mousy girl who likes literature written by dead people exclusively and scrunches her nose up at rina’s rates, upfront, but pushes across the seventy bucks anyway. the school’s careers counsellor catches them eventually - you could make it into an ivy league if you applied yourself a bit more. rina’s brow quirks. their grades are fine, more than fine. what else do they need to do?
on blind faith alone — a rarity, perhaps something rina let free after the hideous, lonely last two years — hands that never quiver submit college applications. pre-med at dartmouth awaits, but two years in the structure and demand wigs them out. lilac ridge is the glue trap dangling from the ceiling and rina is the fly, buzzing relentlessly. they are nothing, just as they suspected.
TRAITS & QUIRKS.
dumbass sun, fuckwit moon, muppet rising
unofficial mensa member with zero motivation. self-help books won’t work, neither will a stern word from an exasperated mentor
at their core, all seems numb. rina is nowhere close to understanding themselves. really, there’s a stubbornness that makes them reliable, even at the worst of times. a warmth, too, not a raging flame but embers that never go cold. hands which caress despite the bruised knuckles and nail bitten fingertips. outwardly, rina’s personality depends on whichever standout film or book antihero has their attention at the time.
petty criminal and relegated to dead-end jobs because of it. it’s rare for a boss to re-hire them, simply because their habit of up and leaving town without warning is too expensive and too frustrating
refused bail once for being a flight risk on account of their propensity to disappear into a louisiana bayou
although rina has never breathed a word of it to anyone, they’re desperate to scrape together enough money to leave for new zealand and track down their mother’s family, if only for the prospect of a better life than thier father’s derelict trailer, the only inheritance received from him
absolute parasite :/
julian assange apologist. took up skateboarding after the infamous ecuadorian embassy footage came on the news one evening
on that note, rina hacks for a spot of extra money. cites their resume for it, so they’re reliable. it consists of them hacking into the irving mayor’s website once and photoshopping che guevara onto the face of every councillor
WANTED PLOTS.
ummmmm
a childhood friend, particularly one whose house rina ended up staying at far longer than planned on account of concerned parents
rina’s natural enemy whose own rigid academics competed against their disorganisation and confounding, cherry red a+’s. bonus: debate club rivals
literally anything. i’ll take it. gimme

Bucky Barnes x My Black! OC pt III LAST CHAPTER
Warning: about 5k, use of the word n word, angst
@littlekidsteve
A/N; idk why it took me so long to post smh. But here is the last chapter. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
"Barnes!" Shouted one of his buddies. "Gotta letter for you."
"Thanks." He said taking it from his hand, then sat back on the bunk with the envelope in his hand.
Bucky,
I was so close to getting in. I would have been on the first ride out of Brooklyn to fight. But the government isn't that desprate. "We don't need some stupid kid."
Don't pity me. They'll need me someday. Beggers can't be choosers, right?
Anyway, I did as you asked. I'm looking out for her. She's living her life and getting ready for a job interview. Her exams went very well and she had one of the highest scores. Margaret-Jane had a seizerure a couple weeks ago and I would have sent this sooner but no one wants to read news thats all bad.
She's happy and doing very well now. I managed to keep it a secret that you've been asking about her. Though I almost broke when she had asked about you. If you're wondering if Margaret-Jane still cares, then you have nothing to worry about. She does
She feels guilty for telling you not to think about her. She misses you and I see it when I talk to her about you.
My advice, when you come back don't waste time. Just ask her again and I guarantee you that she'll say yes. Margaret-Jane will need you now more than ever, Buck.
Your friend,
Steve

"Hey." Steve waved as Margaret-Jane sits on the porch.
"Salut!" (Hi!) She waves back holding on her purse hugging him.
"How are you?" Steve asks "Both-"
"We are fine." Margaret-Jane replied with a hand on her little bump. "Kathleen gave me some pills and I take them everyday. No worries."
With his hands in his pocket he kicks the little rock on the ground. Margaret-Jane had been out of the hospital for a couple days and was told not to stress to much. Her grandmother already suspected but respected her granddaughter enough not to mention it.
"You sent your letter, oui?" She asked
"I did." Steve nods. "Don't worry, I didn't tell him. He won't know."
"Thank you. It is appreciated very much. I wouldn't even know how to tell him." She giggled flattening out her dress. "How does one even begin to explain that? I love him but what if he is not ready?"
"Bucky isn't like that. You know that." Steve said as they continued to walk down the street.
"Right. I knew that, I think it's just my nerves. Forgive me. Look I have an interview in thirty minutes. Perhaps we could finish this talk at another time."
"Of course." Steve nodded as she wrapped her arms around him in an embrace. "What's this for?"
"For being a good friend through all of this." She said. "You and Hector have been such good people to me since ma grand-mère and I moved here."
"No problem." He says as she places a kiss on his cheek making the little Steve Rogers blush. "Go on. You don't wanna be late." The shy blonde haired boy watched her walk away, shoving his hands back in his pockets.

Sitting down in front of the head mistress, Margaret-Jane tried not to shake as much. She was nervous and her stare over her glasses wasn't helping.
"You have all the right paper work and this would be your first time working at a school?" Asks the headmistress
"Yes and no, Mrs. Powell." She tells her. "I've worked in a school before but just for experience back in France. I could have them give you a call if you'd-"
"No need Ms. Robinson." She shakes her head then stands. "I like your resume, but here you are noticeable. And it's up to you to work up to your potential. You'll find that you are the only colored teacher here and the parents can be quite...judgemental." said the headmistress as Margaret-Jane stands walking to the door. "Parlor Prep is a school for gifted children. Children who could change the world. And parents would want a teacher they can trust. You will have to work harder than any other teacher here because-"
"I am a woman of color." She said trying to smile through it as they walked the halls.
"Correct. You'll be leading your own class and of course you are responsible for everything. If one kid so much as fails a test, you are fired."
"Mrs. Powell, you are saying I'm hired?" Asks Margaret-Jane trying to sound casual but inside she was jumping.
"Yes, you are." The headmistress answers. "I'm sure you and your husband will be-"
"Pardon?" Margaret-Jane questions. "Husband?"
"Ms. Robinson, the application said you had to be married or engaged. In the past we've had men come and visit their significant other here at Parlor Prep and then the next week a different man. At one point it was one of the students father and when the mother found out things got out of hand." The headmistress informs her. "Since then, the teachers that come in have to be married or engaged to avoid a confortation like that."
"I see." Margaret-Jane nods lowley. She wasn't married and felt her heart sank. This was the school she wanted to work at. It paid a lot of money. It would get her and her grandmother out of that house and into a better one.
"Jane!" Shouted a voice making her turn around. "Jane!"
"Hector?" She asks frowning as to why he was shouting and running in the hall. "What on earth-"
"You forgot this. Your grandmother wanted me to bring it to you in case you have another seizure." Says Hector handing her the tiny pill bottle. "We need the both of you safe right?" He laughs
The headmistress, peeks over her glasses and extends her hand. "You must be Ms. Robinson's husband." Hector shakes her hand and laughs.
"Well you see-"
"Yes." Margaret-Jane says taking his hand into hers, locking them together securely. "He is. Hector this is headmistress, Powell. I was just about to tell her that you and I are finally engaged after so long. Engaged or Married to get the job." Giggled Margaret-Jane then looks to the headmistress. "It took him two years but be finally proposed." She gives Hector a stare
"Right." He catches on. "She was so beautiful when I first saw her. Still is. Now we are about to have our first kid-"
Margaret-Jane elbowed him and smiled through her teeth, "Darling, I didn't think that was important to tell headmistress Powell."
"Well that is important. Ms. Robinson, I hope this isn't going to a problem? The students come before anything outside this building."
"Right. I understand. My priority is here, promise."
"Good." She nods. "I'll see you here tomorrow. Your folder with your classroom number will be on it and so will the attendance sheet. At the end of the month you'll receive a two three-thousand dollar check. Don't disappoint me, Ms. Robinson."

NINE MONTHS LATER
Bucky was working hard to make sergeant and when he finally did, he finally could walk around in glory.
The other men would roll their eyes but they still had respect. He was their sergeant now and he led them through morning drill and PT. He was glad because the pay was good bed get a giant rock to go on his lovers hand.
He meant it. Marrying her. She may not know it's coming or the world but he wanted too. Marrying Major was what he thought about everyday. When he was getting shot at from all direction. When he was wide awake in the trench firing his gun. When he did get that little bit of shut eye he dreamt of her.
Bucky was ready. Some of the men would give up but not him. He had something to fight for and Bucky didn't want to come home in a body bag. He didn't want to hurt Major all over again.
Bucky wanted to be their for her every step of the way and prove himself to her. What better way to do it with a ring that showed how much he loves her. How much we was willing to invest into her.
"James Barnes." Said his supirior. "You are on leave for a couple weeks."
"Well it's about damn time." He chuckles. "A few days makes a difference."
"You take care Barnes." Said one of his buddies patting him on the back. "And get that ring, ya hear?"
"You got it." He winked "When do I leave?"
"Fist thing tomorrow morning. Don't be late."
"Yes, sir."
▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤
"You feeling any better, Jane?" Asks Hector seeing she was looking through some papers.
"Define better?" She answers grumpily. "I don't think I can do this any longer, I'm supposed to be glowing."
"Three more weeks Jane and it will all be worth it." Said Tommy laughing kissing his boyfriend on the cheek.
Hector and Jane did end up getting married. It worked out well for both of them. Hector didn't have to come out to his dad and when he did meet Margaret-Jane he was thrilled. He already planned the wedding but Margaret-Jane didn't want one.
"I'll wear white for Bucky and only him." She told Hector and he understood.
They got married at a courthouse and Hector and Tommy continued to sleep around in secret. Tommy would come over every week to the house, Hectors father bought and to everyone else he was just a friend.
Margaret-Jane got the job and was really good at it. Her grandmother used the money to open a bakery in the nicer part of town and no one would ever know about what was going on.
Not even Steve. Even though she wanted to tell him, she thought it was best to keep the people who knew small. Her grandmother didn't know and that was the way it had to be.
Steve understood and took the news of her engagement quite well. He understood women without a husband who was about to have a child wouldn't make it far. Those women were always looked down at and degraded.
A child out of wedlock or worse...a bastard.
"I love him and I'll never stop loving him Steve." She told him. "But this isn't just about my love for him anymore. I have a baby to think about and what's best for him or her. I know Hector will be a good father to my baby while he's gone. When Bucky comes back, he'll always be apart of its life if he wants too."
Steve kept that in mind. Margaret-Jane wasn't the betraying type even though it felt like that to him.
"Look, I have to get to work and I promised my grandmother Hector, you would visit." She said "She wanted to tryout a new macaroon flavor."
"Yeah sure." He nods helping her stand from off the couch.
Tommy gave her hug. "Tommy, do I look fat?"
"No way." He shakes his head kissing hers. "You look absolutely ravishing. Like a glowing angel. The midwife should be here later on today."
"Aw. You are sweet " She blushed "I'll see you both tonight."
Hector walked her to the door and drives Margaret-Jane to work.
Margaret-Jane started her class on time and greeted the students one by one. All dropped off by their mothers and all twelve of them entered into her class. She did loose quite a few, the mothers weren't to keen on there child having a black teacher.
A lot of the other teachers said teaching kindergarten was hard, but for her, it was easy. Margaret-Jane fell in love with their curious minds.
"Miss. Robinson?"
"Not now, Luke. I have to take attendance." She tells him
"Miss. Robinson, I have a question. A very important question." He interrupted again making her turn to him biting her lip.
"Ok, what is it, Luke?"
"My mommy and daddy said you used to date a white man." Luke said, as her body tensed up and she swallowed. "He said that a nigga shouldn't date outside of their race. Then mommy said that, everyone will know for sure if that baby belongs to a white man if he is mulatto."
Margaret-Jane didn't even think about that. Her baby was both black and white-
"Luke, do you think it's wrong for a black female and white male or vice versa to be in love?"
"Well..." He pokes his chin and shrugs. "I don't know. Maybe."
Margaret-Jane went up to the chalkboard and wrote the word in big letters, '
IGNORANT
• Lacking in knowledge
"Can anyone say this word for me?" Asks Margaret-Jane
▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤▪¤
Bucky was back in Brooklyn in no time. He went straight to Steve's and asked him to come buy a ring with him.
"So...you are really doing it?" Asks Steve "Don't you think you should wait?"
"I've waited long enough. I wanna make it official, Steve. So...do you think she'll like it?"
"No doubt but her grandmother knows nothing of you-"
"Then I'll go to her today and ask for her blessing. I'm sure she'll say yes again." Bucky pays his best friend on the shoulder and walks out the store, shortly after paying for the ring.
"Tell me how everything goes. I'll see you at Starks presentation?" Asks Steve still not sure if they were going
"Yeah. I'll come and get you." He nods making his way down the street to Margaret-Jane neighborhood.
He adjusted his uniform and tried to look his best. Bucky knocked and stepped off the porch waiting for the door to open.
"Hello?" She asks opening the door. "And who might you be?"
"Hello Miss..."
"Mrs. Allard." She says with a smile as Bucky reaches out to shake her hand. A bit hesitant she shook it and asked, "Sergeant Barnes, is there something I can do for you?"
"Yes." He nods "I actually wanted to ask you'd something but I do have a lot of explaining to do and I wanted to come and ask you first..." He started to rant and all she did was smile and nod her head.
"Sergeant Barnes, if you're looking for Margaret-Jane then I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place. She's not here, but at work."
A bit shocked that she knew he was looking for Margaret-Jane, he was even more surprised when Mrs.Allard told him how she knew they were dating. "I'm not as old and clueless as my dear grand daughter thinks me to be. I know things. Besides, the neighbors told me that a few times you come over and sneak into her bedroom."
"Mrs. Allard I promise you nothing happened." Bucky says but was very confused as to why she was laughing as if it was a joke.
Mrs. Allard invited Bucky inside where he asked for her blessing and she agreed. She made him promise to take good care of Margaret-Jane and he did so.
He walked up to the school and everyone saw the uniform thanking him for his service. Bucky, of course, waved and acknowledged their thanks. Going to the headmistress office, he asked for, "Margaret-Jane Robinson?"
"She's teaching a class as if right now. Perhaps you could come back later." Said the headmistress
Bucky figured she wasn't going to let him in so he lied,"Actually I'm here to just check on my nephew. I haven't seen him in a while is it OK if I just peek. I won't disturb your class."
The headmistress thought for a moment and then nodded him off in the direction. "Just look at the classroom numbers, underneath it should be the teacher names."
He thanks her and walls to the classroom his heart thumping with anticipation against his chest. When he peeked through the window he heard her french voice.
"Luke, what did we learn today about ignorance?"
"That love has no color." He answers
"Not just that but ignorance is what the cowards and small minded people carry around because most of the time they are very bitter and sad."
Bucky's face dropped when she turbed. Hand on her hips to support her belly poking out from her dress. Bucky shook his head in utter shock and remembered to breath. His beloved Margaret-Jane was pregnant.
"Who?" He whispers
"Pretty isn't she?" Asks a voice and he turned to see one of the teachers outside the classroom. "Pretty for someone her color. I'm almost jealous."
"Yeah." Bucky nodded smiling.
"Her husband is pretty too. Don't know how she got so lucky. Shes gonna be on maternity leave soon. She's due in a couple weeks." Said the redhead
"Husband?" Bucky questions "What do you mean?"
"Hector. He's a poet and they've been married for a while. They say if you are in the first years of marriage, you're still a newlywed." She giggled "anyway, did you need something?"
Bucky had already started walking. He didn't look back but Margaret-Jane did. Out the corner of her eye she thought she spotted him but it was all in her head right.
Bucky stayed for Starks presentation and went back to the military. He didn't think about Margaret-Jane anymore because whoever she was with, she was happy. She was happy enough to marry him and have a kid with him.
There was a little regret. A little voice saying to ask to make sure. What if...what if that baby was...no. It couldn't be.
"You OK Barnes?" Asks someone in his platoon. "You seem...out of it. What happened with that girl you talked about marrying?"
"She moved on." He answers
"My gramps used to say, the saddest part about life is saying goodbye to the person you want to spend a lifetime with."
And it was true. He was sad. And in the back of his mind, a distant memory really, was that little barn turned into a house. His three boys and Margaret-Jane sitting on the porch waiting for him to come home.
The End

Gets along beautifully with my dad, stepmom, and brother
Handles E’s family bullshit like a champ, despite the fact that my FIL throws a lot of fucked up shit at him (”You’re one of the good Mexicans who learned to speak English!”)
Will quote Tommy Boy, Uncle Buck, and The Great Outdoors with me any time, any place
Is an excellent teacher at the local community college and has been awarded many times by the Disabled Student Services Department for not just implementing recommended accommodations but suggesting ways to improve upon services offered and educate other instructors
Is always up for a snack or ice cream and will spring for extras (sprinkles, guacamole, etc.) because “fuck it, life is short”

Aaron and his Dad
Tumblr media
Every day good people plan charity events for people with disabilities.
I’m not sure how I feel about this.
Wait! You are wondering how I can be an advocate for people with disabilities and not just jump up and down when two caring people are trying to raise funds for people with disabilities?
Let’s just say, “It’s complicated.”
My first fundraiser was when my youngest son Tommy was an infant and his brother, Aaron was 20 months old and still not sleeping through the night. Two hours a day, I would drive them across town to Stepping Stones Center for the Handicapped. Perfect time for me to volunteer to lead the fundraiser, eh?
What pushed me into action was there were about 30 babies with various disabilities in the program and no teacher. Sure there were amazing volunteers. But these children, who needed so much help, did not have a qualified teacher. I found that unacceptable. I could sleep in a couple of years.
Community Fundraisers
The local shopping center was having their annual charity craft show. At the organizational meeting, I gave my impassioned speech, and the other charities in the show chose us as the “designated charity”. For the next month all the parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors of the “Tiny Tots Program” made craft items for our booth. We raised about $3,000 which was then matched by the shopping center organization and an official “teacher” was hired.
Special Fundraisers
After that, there were the fundraisers for The Mother’s of Special Children, the Arc (formerly known as the Association for Retarded Children), TASH (formerly known as The Association for People with Severe Handicaps) and on and on.
I met other mothers and we had many good times, but I started asking why we had to have charity drives to fund important services other children in the community took for granted.
Regular Inclusive Fundraisers
After our court case and Aaron was finally allowed to go to public school, I got involved in the regular school PTO fundraisers. There were spaghetti dinners, White Elephant sales, Dances, Raffles, Magic Shows, Motorcycle Rides, Bake Sales and saving boxtops, cans… It goes on and on.
I learned about inclusion and realized we didn’t need a “special track team” we only needed an extra support person to help Aaron participate in the regular school track team events with typical junior high kids.
“Disability World” Fundraisers
This led to more committees, grant writing, working for levies for the County Board of Developmental Disabilities as well as the regular local school district.
Other parents got to have jobs and earn money to help their families. I got to be the only non-paid person at numerous committee meetings.
Now, we did some great things that wouldn’t have happened without the volunteer parents. We began after-school clubs and a summer school program so our children would have something to do and not lose all the skills they gained during the school year. We started four non-profit groups and incorporated. Yes, indeedy, sleep would have to wait.
But it never ends.
It is my feeling many of these organizations spend their energy ensuring their own paying jobs and giving lip service to the support of people they are supposed to be serving.
Autism Speaks, March of Dimes, Easter Seals … are currently under fire because one of their main reasons for existence is to raise money to wipe out autism and developmental disabilities. They want a cure for the future and spend much of their funds on sending Medical Doctors to conferences and conducting research.
But what about the people with disabilities who are here now? These professionals, who make good salaries, have their way paid to conferences. Parents, who volunteer, not only pay our own way–we are supposed to donate to send the doctors? Plus, many of their executive directors make big bucks. When I learned what some of the executives of these charities were making–that was it.
When it is all about charity, then it is all about the person who is giving the money. When it is about a person’s life and rights, it is about the person with the disabilities.
There are some large organizations who understand this, but most don’t. Here’s a post on my experience outside my grocery story.
Everyone wants to help babies and young children
I know Aaron’s quality of life was more interesting because of my leadership and volunteer work. But now he is an adult, and there are even fewer opportunities. Babies are cute and helpless and of course, we want to help. But the majority of our lives we are adults. That’s 20 years as a young person and maybe 50–60 years as an adult.
So, I don’t do much volunteering for charitable organizations anymore.
I spend every moment of my life working directly with Aaron, his peers and the caregivers on the front lines. The ones who make little more than minimum wage. The people who take Aaron to the bathroom, cut up his food, take him into the community and clean up his messes. The people who celebrate Aaron’s diversity and think he’s a pretty neat guy. There is no tax write-off, no non-profit. Just people who care and need resources.
Segregated Charity–charity gone wrong
I don’t believe in onetime events like, “People with Disabilities Come to Church Sunday” where the church rents a ramp for the weekend (I couldn’t make this up). I don’t believe in Special Olympic Golf Fundraisers when they won’t let Aaron even ride in the golf cart (“Oh, honey we just raise money for these poor children, we don’t actually want them on the course.”–couldn’t make that up either.) I don’t want Girl Scouts showing up at my door saying they want to play with my child because it is Lent and they have to do penance and they believe in the “hidden Christ” (someday I’ll share the details on that one.)
Rights–not Pity
As Joe Shapiro wrote in his classic book, “NO PITY.” People with disabilities don’t want to be the object of other’s charity. People with disabilities have needs, but they are citizens with rights. They don’t want the handicapped parking place because you have pity on them. They want the handicapped parking place because as a citizen and consumer, they need the extra wide space so they can get out of their car.
And, as an American, I’m proud our country recognizes that right to equal access. I’m proud of each curb cut and each wider door with no steps.
If we really want to help people with disabilities–don’t give them your dimes. Instead, make room in your lives and give your love..and your friendship. That is the best gift and, I believe, closer to the Biblical definition of “charity.”
As I said, this is complicated.
Thoughts?
What are your experiences with charity models? With helping people with disabilities? What does it feel like when you are the giver? When you are the receiver? When do you feel pity? Charitable?

A nice pre-Christmas argument
Tess joined the chat 2 hours ago Ali: Mamacita! How's tricks? Did you manage to get the gum out of Rocky's hair in the end or is he rocking a no.1 rn? Tess: It's hat season he'll be fine. It's your da you need to worry about if he doesn't get those bloody Christmas decs out Ali: At least you'll be saved the toxic fumes of the nit shampoo, like. I'll make him some earmuffs, ears like that, he'll get frostbite. Ali: Aww, leave off, he's got a bad back, like 😜 Ali: Caleb can come help with the heavy shit, he's like an ox, I'll be creative director, obvs, I've got the eye, he's got the body Ali: 😉 Tess: I hope you've got plenty of wool 'cause the dog got to ours and its a bloody state. He'll have a bad head to go with it in a minute. Nah you're alright bab Tommy's offered and Drew might as well make himself useful now he's sniffing round again. Ali: Well, there goes your classic jumper presents! Have to brave dem crowds, fight a bitch for the last...idk, what do kids even want these days? Last I heard from Rock mutant turtles and power rangers were back in vogue but they're probably out again, its been a week or so 😏 Contrary fuckers, eh? I was NEVER that bad, was I? Bet you wish you could relieve those easy years raising me, the dream child 😇 Ali: Alright then, though I wouldn't recommend confining Tommo and Drew to a space as small as the loft, T is gunning for him Ali: aren't we all? but hey 🤷 see if those muscles are just for show ay Tess: He's still on about that slime bollocks. Supposedly this stuff blows bubbles and expands or whatever. All I'm bothered about is that it says it ain't sticky. Better sodding not be. Ha! If you weren't being a little demon you were trying to raise them. Easy ain't the word love! Tess: I'll put Drew at the bottom of the ladder. Maybe some of the boxes'll land on his head. Knock some sense into the lad. Ro too seeing as she's never far. Ali: That shit is such a rip-off though, I could make him some dead cheap, tell him he can have it whatever colour, whatever random shit he wants in it, and no one else will have the same at School Ali: Save your money for the feast 💃'cos I won't be absolutely stuffed from my first xmas dinner, like, nah Ali: and demons need love too, ma, just ask Ro Ali: will he be joining us for meal numero dos? cos i don't think i can stomach 2 helpings of him in one day tbh Tess: Tell him yourself. I tried to make some with him in the summer and the ungrateful little sod wouldn't even come sit up the table. His loss. They loved it at work. Tess: Don't. That girl'll do me in one of these days . I'm surviving on spite by now 'cause he'll be eating with us over my dead body. Caleb's lot are welcome to keep him. Ali: I'm tellin ya get the kid some prescription speed, it'll do him wonders 😂 Well, that's another idea fucked...tis the season! Ali: I know, it ain't even funny at this point. Ali: You know she's gonna wanna go see him, yeah? You'll never get her to sit through games and shit telly once she's picked at her veg Ali: Its like kid swap up in here Tess: If I can get some what's on her plate into her instead of just the dog I'll be laughing. Fuck's sake. Kids who'd celebrate 'em? Grandkids on the other hand. Mary'd have been proper buzzing for that. Ali: Oi, woman! I'm right here Ali: and the giver of majority grandkids, so, think on, love Tess: You're even stevens kiddo. Keep it that way 'til you're done with uni yeah? Call that the xmas gift that keeps giving. Ali: yeah but a twofer ain't the same, is it? 😜 don't make promises i can't keep, ma Ali: engineering students are so fit, how will i resist? Tess: Tell that to Bea. I'm sure she'd have plenty to say back. Ali Mckenna don't test me there's plenty of room in the car when we go for Tommo's new specs I can get you in too. Ali: Yeah, yeah, she can lord it over me with her efficient vagina, getting it done in one, I'll be many bucks fizzes deep by then, give a shizzle Ali: Gurl, my vision is 20/20, in my third eye too, ooOOoOoOOOo Ali: Maybe Beatrice will prove again why she's your favourite daughter by distracting Ro so much with this London visit she won't have time to pine over Drew at all, happy days Tess: That's the spirit. Save your dad's back. He still thinks he's a brawler. Tess: Shh I don't have favorites I'm not one of your teachers. Tess: I'm sure Drew'll stay one text away throughout. Never off her phone now is she. Ali: Ahh, old man could still take him, Drew's a pussy Ali: I'll get Marlene round again lmao Ali: Suuuuuuuuuuuure ya don't 😏 Ali: We can only assume texting is a medium in which he really shines, 'cos seeing them IRL, doesn't make sense, so... Tess: Now that girl is a fave, thinking 'bout it. Yeah I like her. Tess: He must know his selfie angles or some shit. Tess: You tell me I'll never see the appeal. Ali: oh, sweet mama, if only you'd voiced your preference sooner, maybe i'd of married her and had lots of gaybies instead Ali: alas 🤣 Ali: you sound 100, do you feel it? 😉 Ali: he's a vessel for her hopes and dreams, init, but he ain't, he just needs to man up and move the fuck on so she can too Tess: Like you've ever listened to your ma. Double it and you ain't close, bab. I'm in those vampiric numbers here. Tess: Yeah. Maybe try telling her that. Ali: You wish you were a vampire. Which, tbh, is telling of how old you is. Ain't nothing cool about being a basement dwelling weirdo who can't sample the wonder and joy of garlic bread. Ali: Why don't you? Oh wait, cos it ain't for either of us to say it so we'll just sit here like bitter old lemons Ali: You're a bad influence, lady Tess: If that's what you think about vampire lore then I ain't gonna even waste my breath young'un. Tess: I have, cheers. I ain't sitting on my arse doing fuck all for you lot even if that's what you reckon. Tess: Exactly. Learn a lesson. Ali: Mhmm, go tell it to the lost boys 'cos I don't give a damn, I'm getting doughballs baby Ali: Pshhh, well fat lot of good its done, why you setting me up to fail then?! Ali: I know when to bow out gracefully Tess: I don't need to 'cause we'll all be snacking. If you'd watched that movie when I offered you'd know garlic don't work in that verse. Tess: There's nothing graceful about tapping out with a fight left to finish. I thought you'd been set up to go 'til the final bell but do what you've gotta do. Or don't. Tess: There's plenty of other shit stuck to the fridge singing your praises like Ali: No thank you, there's watching some lame for jokes, then there's forcing yourself to endure kiefer sutherland and co Ali: That's sadism. Ali: Well, there's nothing graceful about kicking a girl when she's down Ali: going blow for blow ain't always the right approach, is it? not with someone like Ro so don't start alright Tess: Lame? And you wonder why you ain't my fave. Tess: Helping your sister up is always the right approach if you don't want her to stay down. Tess: I'm not starting anything. I've said my piece. End of. Ali: C'mon, I know even Joe couldn't pretend to like it, like Ali: That's my point, she ain't fell yet, she's on a Drew-related high so pardon me from not trying take the rug from up under her Ali: not that I could if I tried, like I said, what good has you 'saying your piece' done? Ali: sometimes all you can do is be there to pick up the pieces after, that's just facts Tess: You all take after your da is why. No taste none of ya. Tess: It's done me a lot of good being able to get it on the record each time, cheers. Tess: sometimes that's a cop out 'cause you want a easy life Tess: Fact is there's plenty that could have been done before he did his reappearing act. Ali: Oh, yeah? Like what? Changing her entire worldview in time for tea? Ali: If it was that easy, you would've managed it by now Ali: Don't be so hard on yourself, your not doing her, or any of us, a favour with this shit Tess: He's a dealer it is that easy. It ain't my job to manage it though. You all wanna be treated like adults and have me wipe your arses for you at the same time I think not. Do yourself and her, a favor and use that big brain of yours. Ali: You think she doesn't know? Now who's being thick Ali: She doesn't care, so unless you're planning to cop shop him that means sweet fuck all doesn't it Tess: It ain't about what she knows. Last I checked he's not the only dealer in Dublin. There's still some honor among scumbags and more than one way to get caught out. Ali: Aww, such a softie at heart, ain't ya? Tess: Takes one to know one. Ali: That is one small step above 'I know you are but what am I?' Ali: No one wants Drew to get kneecapped or Ro to be collateral but he wants to be treated like an adult, so we can't wipe his arse, can we? Tess: Speak for yourself I'd spend my reddies to see that. However bad he thinks he is there's always someone worse and the sooner he learns it the better for all of us having to watch him play silly beggars Tess: Ro's worth a million of him maybe when she's grown up she'll know it. Ali: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're such a hard bitch. Maybe if he'd got proper help from people like you he woulda turned out better when he was grown too. Ali: It ain't too late for either of them. Tess: I'm what I've had to be. I can't save 'em all. Not even close. You'd be well to stay away from him if you've still got the sense you were born with. Ali: Yeah but you still try, don't you? Read back your previous wisdom for your answer there. Ali: Bit hard when we live in the same gaff isn't it but I can assure you I'm not going out of my way to be his bestie, mother Tess: I ain't about to flog a dead dog. He ain't a stupid kid anymore and what happened when he was a little 'un ain't an excuse either Tess: Nobody's got it easy. Tess: It's up to him to work out if his turning point's come and gone or if he even reckons he needs one. Ali: You don't have to but you can see the pretense Ro is working under, yeah? She doesn't think she's doing anything wrong and, arguably, she ain't. But sometimes all you get for your efforts is a kick in the teeth. Ali: Nobody's got it easy. Ali: It's up to HER to call time, not us. Tess: Who says? I've been there. Thinkin I had it all and knew even more about my future with my dream boy. Nobody came to clue me in but even now I wish they fucking had done. Ali: Like you'd have listened. Tess: If I had someone who gave a shit maybe Tess: She'd listen to you. Ali: Say you had, would you have done anything differently? Even if you knew how it'd go, if you didn't have Ronnie, you might still be with Josh now Ali: It changes everything about you Ali: I don't think she would. There's no reasoning because there is no reason, or rhyme for that matter Tess: Of course I would. I'd do everything differently. I'm not trying to romanticise who I was. Or am. Tess: Change ain't no bad thing when it comes to this. Or me Tess: Because you don't wanna think that she would and deal with all the shit that comes with her doing that. I don't blame ya but that don't make it right Tess: it's still a cop out. Ali: Well, I hope it soothes YOUR soul villainizing yourself because as someone who's half you, it's not something that is helpful, at all. Ali: Who's been there for her after every break-up? Who has to listen to every fucking detail? It ain't been you. And I can assure you I didn't spend those times when he was out of the picture singing his fucking praises. I HAVE told her. Everyone has. It just pisses you off that you can't fix this, or her. Tess: You're all you. Your own person. End of. Tess: And it should help you to know the truth. I was a bad person Ali and I ain't exactly sainted now. I do my best that's all any of us've got. Deal with it. Tess: I'm sorry you want a gold star or pat on the head for doing what you're supposed to for who you love. You're not getting it from me. Try your luck with your da maybe. Tess: And yeah it does piss me off so what? Ali: That isn't close to being true. There's no such thing as an individual, sorry to burst your bubble. Ali: And no one is one or the other. Christ, you're so fucking old testament. Ali: If your going in for all that shite, you should look at how revered a knocked-up teenage girl is whilst you're at it Ali: No one gives a shit about your war stories, they don't help anyone but you so you keep all that anger and hold it tight 'cos none of us are here for it any more Ali: Good luck trying to get Rocky to sit still so you can tell him all about damnation to scare him straight, good fucking luck Tess: You're not gonna change my mind. If you were anything close to being half of me we wouldn't be having this conversation. Tess: Life's black and white for me. That's what happens when you don't have choices. Call it what you like. Tess: And there's nothing to be preached to me about being a knocked up teen by you or anyone else. I ain't trying to either you just think it's that onesided 'cause you never listen Tess: There you go again speaking for everyone else when you mean yourself. But whatever. Tess: Get your own stories and leave mine out of it. Tess: Grow up, Ali. Ali: Now there's a copout if I ever heard one. Ali: Listen to what? What are you spouting but hot air? Ali: Oh, yeah? What one of your sainted children has benefitted? Ronnie hates you, Joe's a junkie, me and Fraze did exactly what you did. Ali: Tommy is passable but he's unhappy as fuck so, well done there. You've only got one left. Ali: What's the point? No one can ever match up to your infinite wisdom, I'd rather stay young so I knew what the hell I was talking about instead of making myself look like an old fool

Discrimination Alleged Against Under Armour and Riverside Under the Lights Flag Football Franchise, Specific to a 6-Year Old Type 1 Diabetic Flag Football Player Girl – Gracie Sevilla – Department of Justice Complaint Filed
A Federal complaint was filed against the multi-national sports apparel and equipment company – Under Armour, and the Under the Lights Flag Football Franchise, alleging that the local league – Riverside Under the Lights, headed by Cory Wells and the parent league; a Florida based company headed by ex-Arena Football League Quarterback, John Kaleo, willfully discriminated against a person with a qualifying disability – Gracie Sevilla, age 6.
The Complaint, a precursor to a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit, alleges that a willful and malicious discrimination against a person with a qualifying disability under The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, 42 U.S.C. §§ 12131-12134, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 29 U.S.C. § 794, occurred and is currently under review by the Department of Justice.
In May 2019, Gracie Sevilla, a 6 year old standout flag football player on her father, Tommy Sevilla’s K-2 Under Armour Friday Night Lights – Riverside Steelers – 7 on 7 Flag Football Team, was blatantly refused “reasonable accommodation” to play in the Steelers playoff game(s) by League Commissioner, Cory Wells, after such was requested by her coach and father and her mother, Melodie Sevilla, in writing.
Gracie, as a Type 1 Diabetic, wears a Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitoring device (“CGM”) affixed to her thigh, while playing sports and otherwise. The device has a small filament that penetrates the skin’s fluid just below the epidermis and reads her blood glucose level every 5 seconds, rendering a cumulative reading every 5 minutes, that if high or low, signals alarms. The alarms then allow the parent or caregiver ample time to treat the life-threatening high or low.
For a Type 1 Diabetic, a blood sugar level reading that is too high or low causes a multitude of ill symptoms and leads to a diabetic coma then death when not treated in a timely manner.
The receiving medical device must be within 10 yards of Gracie at all times or a signal loss will occur and no potentially life-saving reading will be given. Gracie’s River Springs Charter School nurse, teacher and school campus proctor are others who have the app downloaded on their personal cell phones for monitoring, alerts, treatment and emergency care.
Type 1 Diabetes is an incurable autoimmune disorder of the Pancreas whereby the Pancreas stops producing life-saving Insulin necessary to survive and metabolize carbohydrates. Type 1 Diabetics like Gracie, must receive Insulin via needle injections into the skin; on average, Gracie receives 10-15 Insulin injections per day.
Commissioner and League Owner, Cory Wells, after barring Gracie’s father from coaching in the Playoffs, due to a personal dispute with him over Wells’ failure to address the misconduct of a rival coach that lead to a near riot on the football field with parents and coaches, and ensure the safety of his players and others for the upcoming playoffs, Gracie’s coach and Father, in an email, advised Wells that he was obligated under Federal law to have either Gracie’s mother or trained medical personnel on the field with the receiving device (within 10 yards of Gracie) to allow Gracie to play, to which Wells’ scoffed at the request.
Commissioner/Owner Wells, in an email, arrogantly refused the request by Gracie’s parents; dismissed the ADA provision and mandate for a “reasonable accommodation” and brashly welcomed threatened complaints and impending lawsuit(s).
In further retaliation toward Gracie and her parents an unprecedented league-wide email. Cory Wells, stated that no unauthorized persons would be admitted on to the field and that the gate would be locked and security tight; a specific reference to Gracie coach and father, Tommy Sevilla, as well as her mother, who could have taken her coach and father’s spot on the field with the receiving device and thus allowing her to play.
Cory Wells, the league commissioner, was well aware of Gracie being a Type 1 Diabetic. Gracie Sevilla was the youngest player in his league for the second season in a row, the only girl, and the only Type 1 Diabetic; one who had brought great positive publicity to his league, receiving local, regional, national and International media coverage associated with her being a unique young female athlete playing Football with Type 1 Diabetes.
Statement from Under Armour Friday Night Lights Coach, Tommy Sevilla, father to Luke and Gracie Sevilla:
“It is mind-boggling that a person in such a position that Corey Wells is in, purporting to operate a youth sports franchise for kids with a pure motive, acted in such a manner, proving clearly that it’s all about money and he has no regard for the safety and welfare of the kids in his league both from a security and health standpoint.
As a father himself he should no better and to scoff at Gracie’s condition and legitimate request for a reasonable accommodation, he must have a dark, arrogant soul.
Yet, how shameful is it of Under Armour and Under the Lights also, to have responded as they have!
John Kaleo, is an arrogant, cocky jerk and Eric Ogbogu, totally turned his back on the issue after handing it over to Kaleo, showing that Under Armour simply passed the buck and has no regard for Gracie or other Type 1 Diabetics.
We, as a family, rock Under Armour gear and have supported the Brand for years. It is unbelievable for John Kaleo to state that their (Under Armour) “team of lawyers” assured him that this was not discriminatory, nor a civil rights violation and much less an ADA issue. It is utterly shameful and insensitive; an example of corporate greed and human disconnect.
Gracie was supposed to just play without medical supervision, signal loss from her medical device whereby we have no idea what her blood glucose level was?!
How hard was it to allow Melodie, Gracie’s mom on the field, in my place, with the receiver, to monitor her blood sugar level and treat her accordingly?!
The actions of Under the Lights, Under Armour and Cory Wells has been arrogant, proud and an absolute affront to children with disabilities; a complete and utter contradiction to what they claim their brands’ stand for and they owe, at minimum, a contrite and sincere apology to Gracie, and to all like her who without proper medical supervision and treatment, can die suddenly.
Unbelievable how it has come to this, how they have robbed this little girl and her loyal brother, who refused to play without his sister, Dad and coach on the field, of a playoff and National Championship Tournament experience, all on account of Cory Wells’ deliberate indifference, sickening arrogance and blatant disregard for a young girl with a life threatening illness.
Pathetic.”
The Federal Complaint against Cory Wells, alleges that Wells retaliated against Gracie and her parents with foresight of malice, because he was angry with her father (the team’s Head Coach for the second year in a row) for him having complained about Wells’ unfair treatment to Under Armour seeking their intervention.
When Under Armour was contacted about the situation, Eric Ogbogu, a former Dallas Cowboy, passed the issue along to John Kaleo, the Friday Night Lights Franchise Founder and Owner, who mocked and dismissed Gracie’s situation and its relevance to the American with Disabilities Act, both showning a deliberate indifference toward accommodating a person with a qualifying disability; Gracie Sevilla, a 6-year old Type 1 Diabetic girl football player.
In attempt to appease Gracie’s father and coach, John Kaleo, extended an invitation to Tommy Sevilla, the Steelers coach, for them to compete in Under Armour’s National Championship Tournament, since Gracie, nor her brother, Luke Sevilla, the teams star quarterback and player, couldn’t compete in the league’s playoffs to qualify fairly for the tournament; the Steelers would would fail to advance without Luke, Gracie and Coach Tommy on the field and barely have enough players to field a team. However, this was an insincere invitation as it would be impossible for Sevilla to field a team due to the negative fallout surrounding the original near riot incident and Commissioner Wells’ steadfast refusal to share the leagues other coaches’ contact information, so as to allow Coach Sevilla to invite the league’s other players to join his National Championship team, thus making the invitation to compete of no value.
Kaleo refused to intervene in Wells’ retaliation and assist Sevilla in adding players to his team, and it was learned that Wells, in fact, helped the opposing coach (the one who committed the original misconduct) form a team by adding the league’s best players from other teams to his team; the very thing requested by Sevilla.
Previous to this ADA violation, the previous Fall Season of the Riverside Under Armour League, Wells, and the Hillcrest High School Football Coach and Athletic Director, scoffed at and refused to remedy a situation whereby, spectators to the Under Games were forced to park in the lower student parking lot and walk up a steep grade, several hundred yards to steep steps that lead to the football field. This unreasonable trek prevented elderly persons and persons with physical disabilities from accessing the field. Wells failed to address the issue of the gate, which lead to the upper parking lot and access ramps/stairs, being locked, which forced all spectators, including the disabled, to make the long, challenging trek up the steep grade.
The Hillcrest High School Football Coach and Athletic Director, believing he had called Wells to complain about the “woman” who complained about the situation, actually called her, and began the phone call by disparaging the complaining party.
A long email thread substantiating the allegations against Under the Lights and Under Armour exist and upon exhaustion of administrative remedy, a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit will be filed against Under Armour, the Under the Lights Football Franchise (John Kaleo) and Cory Wells’ corporation that is associated the league, as well as specific persons in their individual capacities, for a deliberate indifference toward Gracie Sevilla, a person/athlete with a Federally recognized physical disability.
Gracie Sevilla has continued to play sports without such retaliation and discrimination since the incident, excelling as an infielder and pitcher with Jurupa Valley Little League, thriving as a Quarterback with the Corona Friday Night Lights Flag Football League with her father Tommy as Head Coach, and most recently in Gymnastics.
Brother Luke Sevilla, would subsequently, lead his Ohio State Buckeyes Team to the Corona Friday Night Lights – Sophomore Silver Division League Championship, with his father as Coach.
Gracie will be joining the 3G Wrestling Team out of La Verne, California, a team her brother, Luke, currently competes with, and will also begin her training as a Boxer with the Jurupa Valley Boxing Club, where her father sits on the Board of Directors.
It is believed that she would become the only and youngest female wrestler and boxer with USA Boxing and USA Wrestling.
Gracie has been featured as a Type 1 Diabetic Athlete in International, National and Local news sources, both in print and on television.
Gracie has a website and You Tube channel in development; website currently points to her GoFundMe page created for Type 1 Diabetes Awareness and fundraising for a specially trained Diabetic Alert Dog: http://GraceForTheCure.org and http://GracieSevilla.com

Hi! I haven’t forgotten about my asks! (I’ve just been putting off doing them for a long time 🙃) you have @diazsdimples to thank for telling me to go and do my asks. Anyway here’s some sentences of Dad!Buck and Teacher!Tommy where Buck like in 7x04 doesn’t process his feelings well and rants to Maddie.
“Even Chris thinks he’s so cool,” Buck scoffs, rolling his eyes as he gestures quotation marks. “And he’s not even in his class!”
Maddie gives him a look that he refuses to acknowledge, instead continuing to pout over the hot teacher. Not that being hot has anything to do with his feelings towards the man. No.
“I thought you liked him? If I recall you couldn’t stop talking about Bella’s teacher when you got back from dropping her off.”
“I—I mean okay, I thought he was cool. But now he’s hanging out with Eddie, and Christopher, and Bella has decided she wants to be a teacher when she grows up. What happened to being a firefighter like her dad!”
“Are you jealous of your five year old daughter?” Maddie asks, raising an eyebrow.
“What?” Buck exclaims, frowning. “No, I just— should he even be hanging out with Eddie and Chris? I mean, isn't that some kind of breach?”
Maddie's face softens and Buck doesn’t understand why. “Buck you’re the one who said he isn’t Chris’s teacher, why would that matter?”
Buck just scrunches his face up and frowns, refusing to admit he may be wrong. He doesn’t quite understand what he’s feeling right now or why he cares that everyone else seems to be spending time with Tommy long enough to think he’s cool. It’s just… yeah he’s not going to read into that.

A Federal complaint was filed against the multi-national sports apparel and equipment company, Under Armour, and the Under the Lights Football Franchise that the sponsor; a Florida based company headed by ex-Arena Football League Quarterback, John Kaleo, and that which Riverside, California league is operated by Franchisee, Cory Wells.
The Complaint and precursor to a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit, alleging willful and malicious discrimination against a person with a qualifying disability under The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, 42 U.S.C. §§ 12131-12134, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 29 U.S.C. § 794, is currently under review.
In May 2019, Gracie Sevilla, a 6 year old player on her father, Tommy Sevilla’s K-2 Under Armour Friday Night Lights – Riverside Steelers 7 on 7 Flag Football Team, was arrogantly and blatantly refused “reasonable accommodation” to play in the Steelers playoff game(s) by League Commissioner, Cory Wells, after such was requested by her coach and father, as well as her mother, Melodie Sevilla.

Gracie, as a Type 1 Diabetic, wears a Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitoring device (“CGM”), affixed to her thigh, while playing sports and otherwise. The device that has a small filament that penetrates the skins fluid, just below the epidermis, reads her blood glucose level every 5 seconds and renders back a cumulative reading every 5 minutes, signaling alarms if the blood glucose level is dangerously high or low, which then allows the parent or caregiver, ample time to treat the high or low. A blood sugar level reading that is too high or low causes a multitude of ill symptoms and leads to coma then death when not treated in a timely manner. The medical device sends a reading to an IOS device that must be within 10 yards of Gracie at all times; device also sends sub readings to a maximum of 4 other devices via the Internet and Bluetooth. Gracie’s school nurse, teacher and school campus proctor are others who have the app downloaded on their personal cell phones for monitoring, alerts, treatment and emergency care.
Commissioner and League Owner, Cory Wells, after barring Gracie’s father from coaching the game due to a personal dispute over Well’s failure to properly address the misconduct of a rival coach that lead to a near riot on the football field with parents and coaches, and ensure the safety of his players and others, Gracie’s coach and Father, in an email, advised Wells that he was obligated under Federal law to have either Gracie’s mother or trained medical personnel on the field with the receiving device (within 10 yards of Gracie) to allow Gracie to play.
Commissioner/Owner Wells arrogantly refused the request by Gracie’s parents; dismissed the ADA provision and mandate for a “reasonable accommodation” and brashly welcomed the complaints and impending lawsuit(s). In an unprecedented email. Cory Wells, sent out a league-wide memo, emphatically stating that no unauthorized persons would be admitted on to the field (this included Melodie, Gracie’s mother) and that the gate would be locked and security tight.
Cory Wells, the league commissioner, was well aware of Gracie being a Type 1 Diabetic, as she is the youngest player in his league for the second season in a row, the only girl, and the only Type 1 Diabetic; one who has brought great positive publicity to his league, receiving local, regional, national and International media coverage associated with her being a young female athlete playing Football with Type 1 Diabetes, a chronic and incurable autoimmune disease whereby the Pancreas shuts down and no longer produces Insulin; Gracie, on average, receives on average, 7-10 needle injections per day, while at school and at home.
Statement from Under Armour Friday Night Lights Coach and Father to Luke and Gracie Sevilla:
“It is mind-boggling that a person in such a position as Corey Wells is in, purporting to operate a youth sports franchise for kids with a pure motive yet clearly, it’s all about money and he has no regard for the safety and welfare of the kids in his league both from a security and health standpoint. As a father himself he should no better and to scoff at Gracie’s condition and reasonable accommodation, he must have a dark, arrogant soul.
Yet, how shameful is it of Under Armour and Under the Lights to have responded as they have! John Kaleo, is an arrogant, cocky jerk and Eric Ogbogu, totally turned his back on the issue after handing it over to Kaleo, showing that Under Armour simply passed the buck and has no regard for Gracie.
We, as a family, rock Under Armour gear and have supported the Brand. For, according to John Kaleo, their “team of lawyers” to have assured him that this was not discriminatory, a civil rights violation and much less an ADA issue, is utterly shameful and insensitive; an example of corporate greed and human disconnect.
The actions of Under the Lights, Under Armour and Cory Wells has been arrogant, proud and an absolute affront to children with disabilities; a complete and utter contradiction to what they claim their brands stand for and they owe, at minimum, a contrite and sincere apology to Gracie, and to all like her who without proper medical supervision and treatment, can die suddenly.
Unbelievable how it has come to this, how they have robbed this little girl and her loyal brother, who refused to play without his sister, Dad and coach on the field, all on account of Cory Wells’ deliberate indifference, sickening arrogance and blatant disregard for a young girl with a life threatening illness.
Pathetic.”
The Federal Complaint against Cory Wells, alleges that Wells retaliated against Gracie’s with foresight of malice, because he was angry with her father, the team’s Head Coach for the second year in a row, for him having complained about Wells’ unfair treatment and for him contacting Under Armour to complain against Wells, seeking their intervention.
When Under Armour was contacted about the situation, John Kaleo, the league’s owner, and effectively Under Armour represented by Eric Ogbogu, mocked or dismissed Gracie’s situation, the American with Disabilities Act, and have shown a deliberate indifference toward accommodating her, demonstrating a deliberate indifference toward a person with a qualifying disability; Gracie Sevilla, a 6-year old Type 1 Diabetic girl football player.
In attempt to appease Gracie’s father and coach, John Kaleo, extended an invitation to Tommy Sevilla, the Steelers coach, for them to compete in Under Armour’s National Championship Tournament, since Gracie, nor her brother, Luke Sevilla, the teams star quarterback and player, couldn’t compete in the league’s playoffs to qualify fairly for the tournament, based on Coach Tommy Sevilla’s argument of unfair treatment. However, this despite knowing that he would be unable to field a team due to the negative fallout surrounding the original near riot incident and Commissioner Wells’ steadfast refusal to share the leagues other coaches’ contact information, so as to allow Coach Sevilla to invite the league’s other players to join his National Championship team, thus making the invitation to compete of no value. Kaleo refused to intervene in Well’s retaliation and assist Sevilla in adding players to his team and it was learned that Wells, in fact, helped the opposing coach form a team by adding the league’s best players from other teams; the very thing requested by Sevilla.
Previous to this ADA violation, the previous Fall Season of the Riverside Under Armour League, Wells, and Hillcrest High School Football Coach and Athletic Director, scoffed at and refused to remedy a situation whereby, spectators to the Under Games were forced to park in the lower student parking lot and walk up a steep grade, several hundred yards to steep steps that lead to the football field.
There exists a long email thread substantiating the allegations against Under the Lights and Under Armour and upon exhaustion of administrative remedy, a Federal Civil Rights Complaint will be filed against Under Armour, Under the Lights and Cory Wells’ corporation that is associated the league, as well as specific persons in their individual capacities, for a deliberate indifference toward Gracie Sevilla, a person/athlete with a Federally recognized physical disability.
Gracie Sevilla has continued to play sports without such retaliation and discrimination since the incident, excelling as an infielder and pitcher with Jurupa Valley Little League, thriving as a Quarterback with the Corona Friday Night Lights league, and most recently in Gymnastics.
Brother Luke Sevilla, would subsequently, lead his Ohio State Buckeyes Team to the Corona Friday Night Lights – Sophomore Silver Division League Championship, with his father as Coach.
Gracie will be joining the 3G Wrestling Team out of La Verne, California, a team her brother, Luke, currently competes with, and also training as a Boxer with the Jurupa Valley Boxing Club, where her father sits on the Board of Directors.
