consider the following:

(warnings: slightly above canon level violence, child abuse, major character death)

a few high-ranking hydra members finding some sick pleasure in tormenting steve about bucky’s captivity. steve and the team know about bucky’s capture/the winter soldier, but they haven’t been able to rescue him from captivity yet. hydra regularly mails steve videotapes of bucky being tortured, forced to commit atrocities, and wiped at the end of it all.

then one day, new videos start arriving. they feature a tiny baby girl, not even a year old. big bambi eyes and wispy brown hair, and the tapes are labeled with black sharpie: baby barnes.

the sounds of the babies cries are cemented into steve’s brain as he watches the horror show alone, on his old cassette player, in the darkness of his small apartment. the team tried talking him out of watching them, but he wouldn’t let up. if the baby was tortured just for the sake of him seeing it, the least he could do was witness her suffering.

the particular tapes that keep him up at night are those where bucky is forced into a white room with a panel of glass down the center. he sits silently on one side, while the baby is allowed to roam free on the other. she presses right up against the glass, smacking her tiny hands against it weakly, sobbing loudly for her daddy. but bucky can’t move to comfort her, not even an inch, due to the gun pressed harshly to his forehead.

three or four tapes come like this, before steve begins noticing changes in the tiny girl. eventually she learns that her daddy will not save her; he won’t even look at her. she stops approaching the glass, stops crying, stops hoping for any love or attention from the man on the other side of the room. she learns to crawl weakly to the opposite corner, curling up on her tummy, chewing her little fingers as a fleeting attempt to comfort herself.

a few months after the baby’s first appearance, bucky makes a grave mistake on a mission, and is put down like a sick dog when he returns to his captors. like everything else, steve watches from the silence of his home. a few weeks go by with no further mail, and steve fears the baby could’ve met the same fate as her father.

then one day, an unlabeled box is left outside steve’s door. when he brings it inside and opens it on his living room floor, he finds baby barnes, asleep with a makeshift iv pumping sedatives through her tiny veins.

Peter and Dick seem to always be one step ahead of the other, but if they both are it just leads them to run into one another. (Other Notable Tags: Peter Parker & Dick Grayson, BatFamily Members & Peter Parker, Canon Divergence) Rec Reason: The author seems to have a good grasp on the dynamic between Peter & Dick, which helps in establishing their characters

2. He's Mr. Perfectly Fine by howls_library:

Peter is trying his best to be the leader of a new team of heroes while being mentored by the former avengers. He tries to take a page out of Tony's book to do so. (Other Notable Tags: Peter Parker & Tony Stark, James "Bucky" Barnes & Peter Parker, Steve Rogers/James "Bucky" Barnes, X-Men References) Rec Reason: Some of the best dialogue between character's I've read, the plot is plotting and Peter is a standout character when given the leader role. Plus Irondad dynamic and future Bucky & Peter friendship according to the author, which I LOVE.

3. Come Down in Circles (And Guide Me to Love) by 221BroadwayIron:

Irondad and Spiderson are taken to new heights as Tony has to decide what exactly to do with a surprising new addition after the passing of Peter's aunt. (Other Notable Tags: Kid Peter Parker, Fluff and Angst, Avengers Family, Alternate Universe) Rec Reason: Kid Peter is something I adore reading and this is the epitome of Tony Stark has a heart. It is a fluffy little fic where it takes itself lightly.

4. Echoes of a Shadow by Somnis88:

Peter escapes Hydra with amnesia. He has so much to learn. Like how to be a typical highschooler, and how to balance all that with his newfound alter ego. A great twist on the past life trope. (Other Notable Tags: Peter Parker & Tony Stark, Peter Parker & Harley Keener, Peter Parker is a BAMF Puppy) Rec Reason: The whole idea of having someone lose their memories is difficult to pull off but I think that this is a great take on the trope. Plus the character's in this fic are some of my favorites to incorporate.

5. The Wrecked and The Worried (My Responsibility) by Shieldmaidenshay:

A Peter in Gotham fic that is filled with a mixture of canon and headcanon per the author. A good story to read when you are needing something new! (Other Notable Tags: Peter Parker is a Little Shit, Good Sibling Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne Has Issues) Rec Reason: While some may disagree with fanon or headcanon's I am completely fine with it when the author acknowledges that's what they are doing. This is exactly that.

You woke up to the sound of little footsteps approaching your bedroom door. You opened your eyes to see Aurora, your and Bucky's daughter, standing at the door with a wide grin on her face. "Good morning, mommy!" she exclaimed, bouncing on her toes.

"Good morning, sweetie," you said, sitting up in bed and rubbing the sleep from your eyes. "What time is it?"

"It's time to wake up, silly!" Aurora giggled.

You chuckled and scooped her up into your arms, carrying her back to her bedroom. Bucky was already up, sitting in the kitchen with a cup of coffee in hand. "Good morning," you said, giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"Morning, doll," he replied, grinning at you. "How'd you sleep?"

"Pretty well, all things considered," you said, smiling at him. "What's on the agenda for today?"

Bucky took a sip of his coffee before replying. "I was thinking we could take the girls to the park. It's a nice day outside, and I know Aurora would love to play on the swings."

"That sounds like a great idea," you said, nodding in agreement.

Audrey, Steve's daughter, came bounding into the kitchen, her blonde hair bouncing behind her. "Morning, guys!" she said, grinning at all of you.

"Good morning, Audrey," Bucky said, ruffling her hair.

"So, what's the plan for today?" Audrey asked, hopping up onto one of the stools at the kitchen counter.

"We were thinking of taking you and Aurora to the park," you said, smiling at her.

"Yay!" Audrey exclaimed, clapping her hands. "I love going to the park!"

Bucky finished his coffee, and the four of you got ready to head out. Aurora put on her favorite dress, a blue and white sundress that twirled around her legs when she spun. Audrey opted for shorts and a t-shirt, and the two of them looked like polar opposites.

Once you arrived at the park, Bucky lifted Aurora onto the swings, pushing her gently back and forth. Audrey was already off exploring the playground, climbing up the slides and running around with the other kids.

You sat down on a nearby bench, enjoying the warm sunshine on your skin. "It's nice to just sit and relax for a bit," you said to Bucky.

"Yeah, it is," he said, watching Aurora swing higher and higher. "I love being able to do stuff like this with her. It's something I never thought I'd have."

"Well, now you do," you said, smiling at him. "And you're an amazing dad."

Bucky's cheeks turned a little pink, and he leaned over to give you a kiss. "Thanks, doll," he said, grinning at you.

The rest of the afternoon was spent playing on the swings, exploring the playground, and having a picnic lunch on a nearby blanket. As the sun began to set, you all headed back to the car, tired but happy.

As you drove home, Aurora and Audrey chatted excitedly about all the fun they'd had at the park. Bucky reached over and took your hand, squeezing it gently. "I love you," he said, his voice filled with warmth.

"I love you too," you replied, smiling at him.

You all arrived back at the house, and the girls headed up to their bedrooms to get ready for bed. Bucky helped Aurora into her pajamas, while Steve did the same for Audrey. Once they were both tucked in, you and Bucky sat down on the couch, snuggled up together

Steve on his high horse pretending everything is terrible, but then, then, Wade somehow befriend Bucky. And through Bucky and military humour, Steve, Bucky, and Wade becomes close friends. And IronDad warms up to anyone who makes Steve “language” Rogers laugh at a lewd joke.
