#1940s stucky

I’m reading a Stucky fic set during the war.

I was absolutely delighted that the author mentioned Hedy Lamarr.

Steve is telling the Howlies that she and Howard Stark were working on some stuff together.

Because in the MCU world that isn’t at all out of the question. In fact, the two of them together could potentially do more than either of them might do separately.

So I was just “chef’s kiss” to this piece of brilliance. I’m surprised other fic writers hadn’t thought to do it.

Of course Howard might try to seduce her but I’m certain she would just punch him and tell him to get back to fucking work (well actually I dunno if she cursed. I’d like to think so 😉)

Friendly reminder that Steve and Bucky probably have absolutely wild Brooklyn accents. Maybe it’s mellowed out over the years but sometimes, woild, goil, woist, poifume. Cwafee. Wourder. Fugeddaboutit.

Portrait Of James Barnes (c. 1938)

This is the first page of a sketchbook preserved by one of Cpt. Rogers' former neighbors. Most of the works in this book were produced in the years 1938-39, and it can be noted that the subject of Sgt. Barnes has been prolific in its pages. While Rogers seemed to have a habit of scribbling lists, budgeting and smaller unfinished sketches around most of his works, he has left a few pages to the sole occupancy of portraits like this one. It is evident that Cpt. Rogers held a deep fraternal affection for his then-roommate Sgt. Barnes. Having grown up together like brothers, there is a bond that we see in these pages that followed them into the very jaws of death in the battlefield.

In order to have a normal day, try not to imagine Bucky teaching Steve how to dance outside of a music hall in the last rays of daylight in the 30s and then Steve teaching Bucky how to dance decades later at midnight in their apartment to the same songs.

Just don’t think about it.

I have an idea for a 1940s!stucky x immortal!reader. So basically reader is born in their timeline and they're in like a relationship, living together and everything. Reader is a singer/songwriter, so she sings this song,

And then once Bucky and Steve are "dead"

She gets hit by a bus blah blah blah I'll figure it out but point is she becomes immortal(also gains the ability to rapidly regenerate like if someone stabs her she would be fine in a few seconds, this is important for later so bear with me). And then the years pass, and she's famous in the current timeline(as a new singer persona NOT her 1940s one obviously). Tony invites her to perform at the tower for a party he throws. And she sings a few songs it's fun and all, then she sings this,

And I know it's a bit of a stretch but because of the power of plot™ they recognise its her but they like obviously can't believe it. Then they go talk to her once she's done and angst angst fluff, and they all lived happily ever after. Also it'd be fun if she became an avenger as well.

It’s November of 1941 and Steve is sitting at the kitchen table of a tiny apartment while Bucky fixes up his wounds from his most recent fight.

He gives him the same lecture as always even though they both know Bucky’s proud of him for doing what’s right.

Bucky finishes with Steve’s injuries and takes out a needle and thread to mend the tears in their clothes, because winter is coming and Steve has already gotten sick.

Still, they are happy to be at one another’s side.

They do not know what is about to happen to them.

listen. i know it's not 2014 anymore and i know it's just a throwaway line and that the russo brothers didnt intend for marvel action blockbuster captain america the winter soldier to become the tragic gay love story that never was but man. having steve say "it's kind of hard to find someone with shared life experience" in a conversation about romantic relationships right before the bucky reveal is so cruel. it's not just about steve and bucky obviously having the shared experience of being "out of time," it's the fact that they've both been stripped of their humanity in opposite directions. steve is a legend, he is an american hero and a national icon before he is a human being the same way that bucky is a weapon and a killing machine before he is a human being. steve knows that anyone who falls in love with him in the 21st century fell in love with captain america first, and that's just not him. but then the one person who knew him first and knew him best and loved him (not captain america, that little guy from brooklyn) so much he died for it is alive, impossibly. and it's a miracle because he's back and it's horrific because he's back under the worst possible circumstances. but to steve, the winter soldier is worth tearing the world apart for because he's always been bucky first. they find each other and suddenly they're human again. and maybe, despite it all, being "out of time" becomes a blessing, because in this century they'd finally be allowed to love each other the way they've always wanted to. like real people do.

like. no. the captain america trilogy isn't about two queer men traumatized and alienated by war and modern life rediscovering and reclaiming their humanity through their love for each other. but. i mean. it couldve been

It's so insane because every time I watch CATWS I'm like... Steve Rogers would literally prefer to die at Bucky's hands than go on living without him. Steve would rather die than admit that he really truly lost Bucky. He wants to look into Bucky's eyes as Bucky kills him because at the very least, it's Bucky. He knows for certain he's gonna spend his final moments with Bucky, whether that's a peaceful death decades from now, hand in hand, or right now, as Bucky beats him lifeless.
