Name! That! Rook!
Antivan Crow - Human Female - Rogue: Veil Ranger
de Riva Edition
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yes, she's a princess and you can't stop me. just doing my part to extend king fulgeno ii's illegitimate progeny.
if she had been given a real choice, the Veil Jumpers would have been a great place for her. unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.
(i really want to dig back into the idea of someone being part of something they have to be instead of what they want to be (looking at you, HoF) - that's where my crow rook comes in. the other rooks are perfectly happy in their factions, thanks.)

Reposting because I accidentally deleted it but DA:Dreadwolf is no longer Dreadwolf but The Veilguard!!! In a way DA:Origins and DA:The Veilguard are polar opposites.
In DAO you're often like 'Ugh I don't want to do this next quest' yet before you know it you've finished it and the credits are rolling. The gameplay is not for everyone and can be considered tedious but the writing is so engaging on many levels that it more than makes up for it.
DATV has been called fun by many. On a technical level it may be the funniest game of the DA franchise to play. The maps are beautiful and cool to explore, the combats are engaging, etc. However the writing is so whack that if you focus on it too much you can quickly become annoyed. The dialogues are clumsy, the story is simplistic and the world in which you are playing has been sanitized.

DA:The Veilguard dragged my dragon age obsession back from it slumber with a mighty force. This is my second Rook Carmine De Riva (Crow, Mage, Elf), I'm enjoying picking every scared and sarcastic option I can get my hands on and she's hopefully going to romance Emmrich. AND YES IT'S THE DRAMATICALLY LONG HAIR! WE FINALLY GOT IT PEOPLE! <3

TAGS TO MUTE (for DATV spoilers)
Let's get ready for DATV! Here are A LOT of tags to avoid spoilers. I added as many as possible for those that want to be extra-careful/take the time to mute as many as possible. You can use this as a checklist, if you want. Please suggest others if you think I missed some relevant ones and I'll add them here :)
Highlighted text are what I think the most common ones.
datv spoilers datv spoiler da:tv spoilers da:tv spoiler da: tv spoilers da: tv spoiler dragon age the veilguard spoilers dragon age the veilguard spoiler dragon age: the veilguard spoilers dragon age: the veilguard spoiler dragon age:the veilguard spoilers dragon age:the veilguard spoiler da: the veilguard spoilers da: the veilguard spoiler da:the veilguard spoilers da:the veilguard spoiler da the veilguard spoilers da the veilguard spoiler
dav spoilers dav spoiler da:v spoilers da:v spoiler da: v spoilers da: v spoiler dragon age veilguard spoilers dragon age veilguard spoiler dragon age: veilguard spoilers dragon age: veilguard spoiler dragon age:veilguard spoilers dragon age:veilguard spoiler da: veilguard spoilers da: veilguard spoiler da:veilguard spoilers da:veilguard spoiler da veilguard spoilers da veilguard spoiler

dragon age: dreadwolf spoilers dragon age: dreadwolf spoiler da:d spoilers da:d spoiler dad spoilers dad spoiler dreadwolf spoilers dreadwolf spoiler
dragon age spoilers dragon age spoiler dragonage spoilers dragonage spoiler da spoilers da spoiler
Depending of what you consider a spoiler, you might be satisfied by muting only these or not. If you want to go in completely blind, I'd advice that you mute anything DATV. For instance, you might want to mute the tags above, with and without the "spoilers".
Keep in mind that some people might write typos in their tags, and that is extremely difficult to keep track of individually, so... be careful if you make your own posts!
I haven't seen any, but it's possible that people might use some without spaces (like datvspoilers or something like that. Let me know if you've seen like those or use them).
Overall, before posting just consider using the most common tags and make sure there are no typos in your spoiler tags.
Remember that you can simply block people if they're posting untagged stuff! And please... just consider tagging your stuff, even reblogs.
Additionally, if you're interested in seeing some of the promotional material without the biggest spoilers, make sure to watch Ghil Dirthalen's edits! She edits the promotional videos by removing the spoilers. Of course, if you want to go in completely blind, I wouldn't advice watching them either.
If you're new to tumblr and you're unsure of how to mute things.
Feel free to reblog this and say which tags you will use for DATV stuff and DATV spoilers :)

Thoughts on the new DA:The Veilguard trailer
Here are some thoughts that my friends @hug4tim and @slecnaztemnot and I had watching the trailer in detail.
Black City
Tumblr media
I believe this is Rook inside the Black city. It is a ruined version of the Arlathan place from the gameplay reveal trailer. And while that place was golden and relatively untouched, this place is obviously ruined, completely devoid of colour and there are vines growing through it, which look like lyrium veins, presumably blighted.
Teleportation magic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we see Elghar'nan jumping out from a void bubble and appearing out of nowhere in front of Ghilan'nain. There was no teleportation magic in the previous games for lore reasons. I believe that now when the veil is torn, we will be seing more previously impossible feats of magic.
Tumblr media
Underwater level(s?)
Tumblr media
This place is obviously an elven ruin that is now underwater. Most probably the sea and I expect it perhaps off shore from Rivain. Maybe we will also get to swim?
Lyrium mines + Titan eathshaping magic
Tumblr media
Here we see an entrance to the inside of a mountain. Based on the doors and the architecture around, it was originally dwarven, but perhaps now used by other peoples (ie dwarven pully systems tend to use way less wood).
Just after this we see the inside of the mine, with lyrium veins running through the cavern.
Tumblr media
Following that we get to see Harding petrifying darkspawn.
Tumblr media
In my opinion this will be one of Harding's major quests. As far as I know, Harding hasn't really been in the deep roads much. Perhaps when she goes to the lyrium mine, a titan once again stirs due to the torn veil and connects with Harding, giving her stone creating and shaping abilities. She can petrify creatures and it seems also create rock formations:
Tumblr media
Morrigan
Our with girl finally changed her wardrobe :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The crown is obviously the same design as Flemeths. I believe that Morrigan has indeed inherrited Mythal's soul from Flemeth, as was theorized.
Tumblr media
Also, as you can see her magic is now much stronger and visually very similar to the elvhen gods' that we have seen.
I also think, that from Morrigan's side it does not matter who drank from the Well, she will have those abilities either way through Mythal herself. In my opinion it will only have consequences for the Inquisitor, who could have some bonuses and issues depending on either choice with the Well in DA:I.
Manfred the walking backpack
Tumblr media
Adding this just cause... I mean look at him, he's adorable.
Multiple elvhen gods
This image follows the screenshot with Manfred in the trailer.
It seems to be set in Nevarra's necropolis. And it also looks like there might be a little bit of a cult situation going on.
Tumblr media
This image is accompanied by Bellara saying "Our gods are back". That and the "cult" lead me to believe we may be looking at Falon'din.
The armor design looks very similar to Solas' from the prologue. The skeleton has horns on it head, and as per Solas' words on Falon'din, he was vain and loved gaining followers. That to me tracks with what we seem to be shown in the image above.
Also what is up with Ghilan'nain here????
Tumblr media
Taash
Tumblr media
The person lying down in the sand (?) seems to have horns, one of them made from green crystal. That screams to me that it is Taash. Perhaps this is how we get to meet her. If so, the poor baby always has bad angles in trailers :D
Anderfels
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucanis' personal quest?
Tumblr media
Neve's personal quest?
Tumblr media
The man with red lyrium looks like he is wearing similar outfit to Neve, so perhaps a shadow dragon, or maybe even family member.
Irellin and Strife (?)

I don’t like the new art style of DA:The Veilguard, I’m not going to pretend I do, I actually liked the “hyper” realism of Inquisition, and this new style, reminiscent of Andromeda, honestly makes me think of Wizard 101, which is a slightly obscure reference but still….but the art style in no way suggests the game isn’t going to be dark or gritty or whatever else people are saying.
Origins gave us the Deep Roads and the fucking BROODMOTHER. Like, the knowledge of what darkspawn are doing with the women they take?
How darkspawn are made?
That coexists with things like “swooping is bad” and Zevran, who lists picking locks as one of his skills that is enough of an asset for you NOT TO KILL HIM, and he has zero lock picking skills.
I hate to have to remind you that Dragon Age has always been horrifying and hilarious.
Veilguard is never going to be exactly what people want, that’s just the nature of people, but it’s going to be a Dragon Age game, and that’s awesome

If/when we start getting WLW art for DA:The Veilguard, it'll be tagged as follows:
#da4 spoilers
#dragon age spoilers
#veilguard spoilers
This will continue up until and past the game's release, for people who prefer to avoid pre-release hype and speculation.

Even though I will be sound asleep when the "over 15 minutes" of DA:The Veilguard is released to YouTube...
Hours later, once I wake up, make breakfast and coffee, and settle down at the table.... yeah, I'm gonna look at those 5 missed calls and call my shitty ex.

Name! That! Rook!
Shadow Dragon - Human Female - Mage/Rogue
Spoilers for Mercar background below the cut!
"The foundling Rook was adopted into a military family and joined the Shadow Dragons to fight from the shadows for change in Minrathous."
Rook's family is most likely Soporati, considering the emphasis on it being a military family, but with the adoption of a foundling who later showed magical promise (if you play as a mage) could they be elevated to Laetan class? If so, that could be a pretty good reason to take in some random baby.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Not really sure what to make about it. First of all, BioWare, please give the guys who made the reveal trailer last week a new task where they can’t do any more serious damage. That one was really lightyears away from what we have seen here. That fallout was absolutely justified.
Now, this one. This is clearly Dragon Age. In fact, it is so much Dragon Age that I have the feeling I had heard every single line that was said at least twice in a DA game before. Dialogue and character interaction felt somewhat underwhelming given the stakes in those scenes. Maybe, there were some cutscenes cut out (hoho) that would raise the tension. Maybe not and that’s just the quality of the writing.
The graphics definitely look much better than in the trailer. Still not what you would expect from an AAA game in 2024, but BioWare never was up to date in that field.
The gameplay looked as it was to be expected: The logical continuation on the path toward a more flashy-looking action-heavy RPG, that had already started with DA2. Last year, a critic had predicted that DA4′s gameplay would be what was fashion about 8 to 6 years ago, when AC Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn, and God of War came out. Judging from the material shown here, that prognosis was accurate.
Watching this combat was somewhat boring. But this was early in the game where you have no abilities and the enemies are extremely generic. Let’s hope it does get better during the game (to be fair, it didn’t in DA:I either, save for the dragons).
I have some questions lore-wise, though. For example, do they have electricity in Tevinter? Or why do we see spotlights and hear loudspeaker announcements? There was mention of some factions (dragons-something), are we supposed to know them? Why are we being attacked by Venatori? They are supposed to be history.
Bottom line: Better than I feared after the trailer, less than I hoped for. After seeing the gameplay reveal for AC:Shadows yesterday, if I could only play one of these two games, it would AC:Shadows, not DA:Veil... sorry, DA:The Veilguard.
