A$AP Rocky Talks New Album, Under Armour Deal, and His Deep Love of Flowers

He took his spot in the middle of a leather couch, surrounded by his old friends from Harlem—Ferg, Nast, Ant, and Twelvyy—and started methodically breaking down a small mound of weed as he spoke in a post-concert rasp. Every so often, he'd tease me for asking so many questions. But some of them he didn't mind so much: GQ Style had collected them from a few of Rocky's notable friends and admirers, with a promise of bringing back answers.

Now, after two years spent racking up all those hyphens, he is ready to return to the first thing that made him: rap music. But things are a little different this time. In January 2015, Rocky's best friend, business partner, and mentor, A$AP Yams, passed away in bed at his Brooklyn apartment from an accidental prescription-drug overdose. Rocky was there the night of Yams's death and was among those who found him. A few months later, in May, Rocky released At.Long.Last.A$AP; on the album cover, Rocky's face bears Yams's signature purplish red birthmark. This new album will be Rocky's fourth, but his first ever made entirely without the guiding presence of Yams.

When we met in London for the GQ Style cover shoot, Rocky was deep in his work zone, trying to finish the record. He was keeping his phone turned off, more or less, so he could try to complete the LP before jumping to Milan for the Gucci runway show and then returning to the States for a long tour with the Mob. He's 29 now—he's seen a lot, and even his friends have questions about where he's been and where he's going next.

GQ Style: The first question comes from Mahershala Ali: “Considering you were named after Rakim, one of the greatest MCs of all time, what legendary MC would you name your child after?”

A$AP Rocky: Wow, that's a good one. Let me think on it.

A lot of A$AP members were there that day. I'ma come clean, we was in the club, and A$AP Bari was trying to talk to some dude's girlfriend. Next thing you know, the dude got mad. He looked like some wrestling dude. He was big, with long hair. He's like, “What?!” to everybody. We was like, “Yo, chill,” but he kept going crazy. So [Harlem-based visual artist] Jay West put him in a headlock, I snuffed him, he fell, everybody kicked him, we all dispersed, we ran.

A$AP Nast: Let's talk about the Ferg punches.

Rocky: Don't forget about the Ferg punches! Ferg said, “Don't touch my friend!” Boom, boom, boom! [laughter]

Ferg: I did not say that.

Rocky: That shit was echoing through the man's body! When the dude got up, the first person he spot was me with the pink shirt on, so he just start charging, like a mad raging bull, and he grabbed my head. Now we on the motherfucking dance floor, fighting like females, pulling each other's hair. I'm biting this motherfucker's thumb and pinkie and shit, going crazy, snuffing him. This motherfucker must've been on mollies and liquor. Next thing you know, I just see feet running my way. Ferg came through. Nigga said, “Get off my friend!” Ferg was mad concerned. It was sincere. He was like, “Get off my friend!”

Ferg: I did not say that.

Rocky: So then, we all leave out the club. We outside. Your man, he was a manager of the club, so he come out, bugging out with his security guards. He throw ice at all of us and hops in a cab. We run down on the cab, take him out the cab, and start beating him up while we're screaming “A$AP!” So that's how everybody knew us back then. Next question.

What's your number one priority?

Right now, it's music. Last year was businesses and developing all our new artists. Playboi Carti went platinum. Smooky MarGielaa is on the rise. Twelvyy album came out. A$AP Ferg mixtape came out—he always got number ones and bangers. Nast, Addie, up next. Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 is out right now. Now it's all about me making music again.

What do you say to people who say that you're “more fashion than music”?

I can see why they think that sometimes. I really wanted to take time out to show people I was an entrepreneur. I'm a businessman—you gotta take me serious. I can't help that I look good doing it. But if you just look at my catalog from this year, everything I get on, I body. I'm selective about what I get on. I'm particular. I wasn't really featuring with other artists. But this year, I'm showing niggas stop playing me, stop sleeping on me. I'm the god of this shit.

So when we saw you in London recently, you were on a phone-off lockdown, making an album. What was the vibe—the starting point for the new album?

My new album is really about testing new sounds. People are scared to test new sounds, so they go with what's current 'cause it's the easy thing to do. The top 100 songs sound a certain way. People cater more to that because it's a bigger demographic behind that, or it's a guaranteed demographic behind that. I prefer to experiment and have my crowd grow with me and to reach new crowds. I don't just rap—I actually make music. That's why it takes time. These sonics represent me.

Did you go to London for the sound of London, or was it more just getting away so you could focus?

Both. London has a cool sound. I always record in London. But I needed to get away. London's my second home.

When do you want to put the album out?

ASAP—no pun intended.

This year?

Yes, sir.

Your travel schedule is intense. When you're always on the move, where's your center, or your home? Do you ever wake up in another hotel room and wonder, “Who am I?”

Fuck no. Sometimes I do wake up like, “Where the fuck am I?” But not “Who am I?” I'm the same nigga I was when I went to sleep.

You've had relationships with Dior and Gucci. You seem to have a personal relationship with Raf. How do you characterize those connections?

Sometimes it's business, and sometimes it's friendship. Raf had me flying out to Antwerp so I could smoke my weed and just catch a vibe with him back in 2012 and 2013. I've been looking at him and [Rick Owens's wife and muse] Michèle Lamy for advice. Michèle Lamy is like my fairy godmom.

What do you and Michèle talk about when it's not Paris Fashion Week double-kiss time?

Art. She's the reason I got all these diamonds in my mouth. She had hers since 1985. She puts me on. She tries to make me evolve as an artist. She encourages me to do more things outside of musical arts—more contemporary art. She taught me the difference between masters and Renaissance and contemporary and Pop art. It's been a journey. Raf, we talk about collections, we talk about his favorite scenes—what rave scenes inspired most of his career.

Do you talk with them about, like, feelings and personal stuff? Or is it mostly art and the industry?

Yeah, Michèle Lamy be hooking me up with all type of models—not all type of models, but her friends who she thinks is sweet. She says, “You need to meet her, she's a nice girl…,” and I go meet her. They either crazy or nice.

The Balenciaga sneakers that you wore in our shoot: They're a little controversial, and I would like to know why you like them.

I seen those early, and I like them 'cause they remind me of a Raf Simons sneaker, and on top of that, those shits are fire—

You ask a lot of questions. I'm just preparing for a final test, that's all.

Nast: Wear what suits you and not what's trendy.

Rocky: Yeah, but when we wear stuff that suits us and not what's trendy, it becomes a trend. So that might be confusing for people. I would just say that everybody's different. Everybody got different body shapes and whatnot, so I would say stick to what you know fits you best and what you feel comfortable in, even if it's not in style. Just wear whatever makes you feel cozy.

Nast: That's kind of what I just said.

Your creative group, AWGE: First of all, how do you pronounce it? Second of all, what is it?

Nast: That question we don't speak of.

Rocky: The first rule of AWGE is you never repeat what AWGE stands for. Second rule of AWGE is, whenever in doubt, refer to the first rule. So there you have it.

Is it not “A$AP Worldwide Global Enterprises”?

Nah. You on some bullshit. That's sacred.

What have you learned about leadership since the Mob's rise into the public consciousness?

Fellowship. Brotherhood. I try to manifest leadership into anything I do as an entrepreneur, as a businessman. But when I'm doing music, it's the element with the brothers. We all lead by example and lead each other, so I lead and follow, too, you know?

You just announced a new deal with Under Armour. Why Under Armour? And what can we expect?

People would assume, with me going into a business deal with a sports brand, that it would be all about designing or curating a line—making things more lit. But what I liked about Kevin Plank, the CEO of Under Armour, was that he had a vision. He gives, gives, gives. When you donate or you do charities, it's not about showing people “Look, I'm doing this.” I was in a shelter myself. And I know that when people be donating and shit, you ain't get no fly shit at Christmases and all that. You don't see no money. Pardon my French, but you don't see no money. So I really want to make a difference. So I got with Kevin and Under Armour so we could open up real rec centers with fly shit in them. Not hand-me-down toys and technology—new stuff. And programs for kids to learn to become entrepreneurs, designers, athletes. They can screen-print their own tees and sell 'em from the store, get that commission on it. I think it's smart. Those kids need laptops and phones today—that's their platform. So I want to do something that's really gonna make a difference, as opposed to fronting with the cameras like, “Ah, I'm doing this, doing that.” We gonna show and prove when we go and design uniforms. We're gonna start in New York, the tristate area, 'cause that's where I'm from. And then go to different junior high schools and high schools throughout the country.

But commerce being commerce, you're going to have to sell some stuff to fund those programs. So are you gonna design a line with Under Armour? A$AP Rocky sneakers?

I'm talking about giving away to schools. That's not selling, bro—you don't make any money off of that. What are you talking about? I want to facilitate ways for kids to get better education without calling it education, 'cause that shit sounds boring. I want to make a way for being smart to be cool. There's nothing wrong with being a thinker. Where I'm from, being smart has a negative connotation—that means you sold out, that means you're a geek. I'm just trying to say, “Fuck all that. This is the plan: You are the future, that other shit is the past, so let's make a better way.” And if I feel like designing some shit with Under Armour, I will.

Everybody has a different God. I don't know if God is a female, male, or even in human form. I pray to somebody. Religion is deep. Everybody got a different God, but I just respect everybody for their beliefs. It is what it is. I'm more spiritual than anything. Because I find flaws and contradiction in a lot of religions, respectfully, and I just take the good out of all religions and try to practice to be a better person.

You pray every day?

Yes, I pray every day. I pray over cookies. I say my grace, straight up and down.

You've experienced loss in your family. A few times over the years, as far as I know, and then you guys as friends and collaborators and a crew experienced the loss of Yams. Do you feel like you've grieved, or did you just keep working?

Keep working. I'm not gonna lie. Because if we grieve it, it might take everything out of us. [long silence]

How'd you get the scar on your face?

When I was 15, I had a fight with some niggas in the Bronx, on Arthur Avenue. This older guy gun-butted me while we was fighting. He was trying to rob my Pelle Pelle jacket. I still kept it, though. It was bloody. My sister Erika bought me that for Easter. I wasn't about to give my shit up. Fuck outta here. If you've ever seen Jim Jones's “Certified Gangsters” video, he had it on in black. I had it in white with the colorful Easter P's on it.

Facendo leva sul narcisismo di quel terzo della popolazione italiana appartenente in via del tutto autopresunta alla categoria dei poeti (le altre, com’è noto sono quella dei santi e quella dei navigatori, ma come la prima, non sono a tenuta stagna, nel senso che a seconda della convenienza chiunque può ascriversi a ciascuna di esse, anche se ignora l’esatta sequenza delle lettere dell’alfabeto o cos’è la bussola o ha già ammazzato quattro suoi simili), si stimola la partecipazione dei concorrenti, il cui numero sarà, grazie alla quota d’iscrizione, direttamente proporzionale al guadagno finale degli organizzatori. L’editoria in genere, però sembra aver messo da parte l’ingrediente fondamentale di qualsiasi attività imprenditoriale, cioè il rischio, adagiandosi nel comodo letto di sponsorizzazioni private e pubbliche (penso soprattutto ai quotidiani), trascurando il parametro del talento e del merito ed assecondando il gusto dominante di una caterva di lettori superficiali e suggestionabili. Così è difficile che essa scopra e promuova (pardon, produca …) personalità che entreranno a far parte della storia, anche minore o, addirittura, locale della letteratura e sarà sempre costretta a costringere gli autori a darsi da fare per il lancio della loro creazione in una serie di presentazioni, dalla più visibile (in tv) alla meno (qualche pro loco). Nemmeno sotto tortura”editori” ed “autori” confesserebbero questo stato di cose che dal punto di vista valoriale presenta molti, se non solo, lati deboli e su domanda farebbero intendere l’esistenza di un rapporto di reciproca stima. Stavano così le cose pure in tempi in cui il libro, fosse anche il più leggero, era un prodotto riservato a pochi (oggi, magari, per non sentirsi fuori, molti lo acquistano, pochissimi lo leggono …), oggi diremmo di nicchia, perché la pubblicazione comportava costi elevati non esistendo i mezzi messi a disposizione dalla moderna tecnologia (basta pensare alle tavole che prima di arrivare alla stampa dovevano fare i conti con la penna del disegnatore e poi col rame dell’incisore), per cui non era neppure immaginabile l’abbassamento del prezzo che di regola l’economia di scala comporta? Chi ha dimestichezza con libri datati avrà notato che è immancabile una dedica, in alcuni casi chilometrica, a personaggi politicamente (ed anche allora il gemellaggio tra questo avverbio ed economicamente era quasi automatico) di rilievo, del quale padrone colendissimo il dedicatore si dichiarava umilissimo ed obbligatissimo servo osservantissimo (vada per il resto ma le due ultime due parole costituiscono una ridicola tautologia). E tutto nella speranza che il potente di turno, riconoscente per la dedica, gli concedesse qualche incarico o beneficio. Non si sottrae certamente a questa regola antica (in fondo anche a Roma i letterati dell’entourage di Mecenate erano mossi solo dall’amor patrio o dalla stima per il detentore di turno del potere) il letterato leccese il cui nome ho anticipato nel titolo.

La dedica, infatti, inizia con Al Sig.e Padron mio osservandissimo e termina con Di V. S. M. Illustre Servitore Affettionatissimo.

Sull’autore delle Rime non sono riuscito a reperire alcuna notizia e nemmeno la dedica contiene dati utili, consente solo di rilevare una certa familiarità col dedicatario: … havendo in diverse occasioni composto diversi Sonetti, parte Serii, parte Burleschi trattovi dalla natural mia vena, havendoli più volte letti ad Amici, et a V. S., essendone stato sollecitato da quelli, e comandatomi da lei, che dovesse stamparli, non hò potuto recusare. Si arguisce che si tratta di persona di un certo rilievo, come il dedicatario, del quale riproduce lo stemma e ricorda la provenienza genovese negli ultimi due versi del primo sonetto: MECENATE GENTILE (alta ventura)/venisti a Noi dal Ligure Parnaso). In mancanza di altri riscontri credo di poter avanzare come pura ipotesi di lavoro, in attesa di altri eventuali più proficui riscontri, l’identificazione con Giovanni Domenico Salviati, notaio sulla piazza di Lecce dal 1615 al 1635, il cui nome compare anche tra quelli delle persone designate ad essere aggiunte al collegio di amministrazione dell’Ospedale dello Spirito Santo di Lecce per l’amministrazione dell’eredità di Cesare Prato1.

Se la dedica rientra nella normalità, ciò che mi ha colpito del volume, a parte il sonetto iniziale di cui ho detto ed il successivo dedicato al figlio Giorgio del dedicatario, è la presenza subito dopo, quindi in una posizione ancora sufficientemente privilegiata in rapporto alla lettura, la presenza di quattro sonetti che costituiscono una sorta di simpaticissimo intermezzo tra l’autore e l’editore. Li riporto in formato immagine con, di mio, la trascrizione e le note di commento.

fu assassinato e il Castelvetro venne indicato dall’entourage del Caro come uno deimandanti. Lo stesso Caro nonsi lasciò sfuggire l’occasione per accusare di Eresia il Castelvetro, che nel 1560 fu condannato dall’Inquisizione subendo la confisca dei beni.

Arcipoeta è il soprannome di Camillo Querno (circa 1470-1530). Riporto integralmente e traduco il paragrafo che alle pp. 51-52 gli dedicò lo storico Paolo Giovio nel suo Elogia veris clarorum virorum imaginibus apposita quae in Musaeo Ioviano Comi spectantur, Tramezino, Venezia, 1546: 

CAMILLUS QUERNUS ARCHIPOETA.

Camillus Quernus e Monopoli , Leonis fama excitus, quum non dubiis unquam praemiis, Poetas in honore esse didicisset in Urbem venit, Lyram secum afferens, ad quam suae Alexhiados supra vigintimillia versuum decantaret. Arrisere ei statim Academiae sodales, quod Appulo praepingui vultu alacer, et prolixe comatus, omnino dignus festa laurea videretur. Itaque solenni exceptum epulo in insula Tyberis Aesculapio dicata,potantemque saepe ingenti patera, et totius ingenii opes, pulsata Lyra proferentem, novo serti genere coronarunt; id erat ex pampino, Brassica, et Lauro eleganmter intextum, sic, ut tam false , quam lepide, eius temulentia, Brassicae remedio cohibenda notaretur; et ipse publico consensu Archipoetae cognomen, manantibus prae gaudio Lacrymis laetus acciperet, salutareturque itidem cum plausu, hoc repetito saepe carmine:

CAMILLO QUERNO ARCIPOETA.

Camillo Querno da Monopoli, allettato dalla fama di Leone [papa Leone X], avendo saputo che i poeti con premi mai dubbi erano tenuti in onore, venne a Roma portando con sé la lira per cantare al suo suono gli oltre ventimila versi della sua Alessiade [di questo come si altri suoi poemi nulla è rimasto]. Piacque subito ai soci dell’Accademia, poiché allegro nel suo grassoccio volto apulo e capelluto sembrava assolutamente degno di una festosa laurea. E così, dopo averlo accolto in un solenne banchetto sull’isola tiberina dedicata ad Esculapio e mentre beveva spesso da una grande tazza e al suono della lira esprimeva le risorse di tutto l’ingegno, lo incoronarono di un nuovo tipo di corona. Essa era fatta di pampini, cavolo e alloro elegantemente intrecciata sicché tanto sul serio che spiritosamente si sottolineasse la sua ubriachezza e col pubblico consenso ricevesse lieto tra le lacrime di gioia il soprannome di Arcipoeta e similmente fosse salutato con un applauso, ripetuto più volte questo canto:

Salve, tu che verdeggi di una corona di di cavolo e di alloro e di pampini, degno ARCIPOETA alle orecchie del principe Leone.

Né molto dopo, celebre per tanto soprannome, portato al cospetto di Leone, recitò con la rotonda bocca  infiniti carmi a mo’ di torrente; e fu per lungo tempo graditissimo tra le risorse di erudito piacere quando, mentre Leone pranzava e con la mano gli allungava rimasugli di bocconi, lui li mangiava appoggiato a una finestra e bevendo a lungo  dal fiasco del principe dava vita a canti improvvisati, con la legge che almeno due canti fossero intonati a mensa  su un argomento prescritto, con la pena che per un esito insufficiente  o inadatto avrebbe dovuto bere vino annacquatissimo. A causa di questa ricca ed allegra alimentazione incorse in una severa podagra, sicché amenamente suscitò il riso quando, invitato a cantare di sé, se ne uscì con questo esametro:

L’Arcipoeta fa versi al posto di mille poeti

e mentre esitava il principe senza che nessuno se l’aspettasse gli rispose argutamente con questo pentametro:

E l’Arcipoeta beve al posto di mille altri

Allora sì che il riso sorse tra gli astanti e ancora maggiore quando Querno sbigottito ma intrepido proferì non a casaccio questo terzo verso:

Offrimi del Falerno, perché io componga dotti carmi

e Leone all’istante presolo a prestito da Virgilioa gli servì:

Anche questo snerva e debilita i piedi [qui il papa gioca sul doppio senso che in latino ha il piede, che, oltre al dettagli anatomico, indica anche un elemento fondamentale della metrica].

Morto poi Leone e allontanati i poeti, ritornò a Napoli. Qui infine, quando le armi dei Francesi facevano sentire il loro strepito ed egli, molto civilmente nel disagio diceva, invece di un benigno Leone si era imbattuto in molti feroci lupi. oppresso da ogni lato dal durissimo bisogno e dal tormento di un’insanabile malattia finì i suoi giorni in un pubblico ospizio, quando, indignato con la crudeltà della sorte, per il dolore con una forbice si trafisse il ventre e le viscere.

Dodi Battaglia presenta il nuovo singolo "UN'ANIMA"

DODI BATTAGLIA: L’8 MARZO ESCE IL SINGOLO INEDITO “UN’ANIMA”… firmato insieme a GIORGIO FALETTI

Dall’8 marzo il singolo inedito “Un’anima“, firmato da GIORGIO FALETTI e DODI BATTAGLIA, sarà disponibile in digital download, sulle principali piattaforme streaming e in limited edition in vinile bianco 45 giri.

Il singolo sarà contenuto in “Perle”, l’atteso album live di Dodi Battaglia, in uscita il 15 marzo, ispirato al tour “Perle – Mondi senza età” che sta riempiendo i teatri in tutta Italia, portando sul palco quelle canzoni dei Pooh che non venivano proposte spesso dal vivo, quelle “perle” che sono rimaste nei cuori delle persone per anni. 

Dodi Battaglia ha lavorato sia sul testo che sulla musica del provino embrionale di “Un’anima” inciso qualche anno fa dall’amico e collega scomparso Giorgio Faletti. «Calandomi nelle atmosfere e nelle intense immagini evocate da Giorgio – racconta DODI BATTAGLIA –  ho seguito l’onda emotiva che ne è scaturita ed ho portato a compimento il brano, nel rispetto di quanto lui voleva comunicare e mettendo in gioco a mia volta la mia ispirazione».

Po snídani jsme se stavili natankovat na benzince Mobil a zároveň tam objevili kávu za 1$, tak bylo jasné, že ji tam prostě nemůžeme jen tak nechat, když normálně stojí káva v Austrálii tak 4$.

Jelikož jsem se zatím nezmínil o placení, tak to napravím nyní. Australský dolar je o něco málo silnější než novozélandský, nyní asi 16,5 Kč, nicméně cena základních potravin, ale i nafty, je trošku nižší než na NZ. Po zvážení možností jsme se rozhodli peníze neměnit předem, což se nakonec skutečně ukázalo jako správná volba. Naprostou většinu věcí jsme platili novozélandskou kartou a pro případ nutné potřeby mít hotovost jsme vybrali 100$ také z NZ účtu až v Austrálii z bankomatu. Tahle hotovost nám skoro celá zbyla, skutečně zaplatíte všechno kartou. Po ranní kávě jsme se vydali k Fitzroy falls. Stále to byl Morton NP, ale zde to bylo zdarma a všechny cestičky byly docela upravené. Twins falls byly menší vodopády po cestě ke Starkeys lookout. Odtamtud byl naprosto fenomenální výhled na vodopád Fitzroy. Asi můžem s klidem prohlásit, že je to nejkrásnější vodopád mezi Melbourne a Sydney. Poté jsme šli i na lookouty přímo u Fitzroy falls.

Další zastávkou byly vodopády Bellmore falls. K nim jsme museli přebrodit autem přes malou řeku. Chtěli jsme jít trek přímo k vodopádům, ale kvůli sesuvům půdy byl zavřený. Cestou přes Kangaroo Valley (klokaní údolí) jsme nepotkali ani jednoho klokana. U mostu jsme si tedy udělali oběd a pádili dál. Ve městečku Kiama jsme navštívili místní blowholes, které se sice s těma Samojskýma nemohly srovnávat, ale i tak byly dost hezké. Celé městečko bylo moc příjemné. Oceán, skalnaté útesy a tak.

Poté jsme už jeli přímo do Sydney. Po počátečním motání se ve velkoměstě a několikátém přejetí různých odboček jsme zaparkovali v garážích Wilson přímo v centru v Queen Victoria Building (QVB). To je obrovský obchoďách v krásné historické budově. Byl pátek večer a tak bylo v ulicích centra asi milion lidí. Bary a restaurace žily a my snad poprvé zažili noční život pětimilionového města. Pěšky jsme došli až na Harbour Bridge. Tenhle most je fakt obrovský. A pak jsme ji viděli. Jeden ze dvou hlavních symbolů Austrálie. Operu! (tím druhým symbolem je samozřejmě klokan) Byla krásná a impozantní. Poté jsme šli přímo k ní, chvilku se potulovali kolem a jen tak si užívali atmosféru tohoto úžasného místa.

Čas se pomalu blížil k půlnoci a my se rozhodli, že se pojedem někam ubytovat. Vybrali jsme si nejbližší kemp za Sydney a vyrazili někam k Blue Mountains. Kemp byl v lese a na campermate bylo psáno, že je to vhodné pouze pro auta s pohonem 4WD, ale lidé psali, že to zvládli i s normálními auty. I my jsme v takových kempech už byli, a tak jsme tohle varování nebrali moc vážně. Klasická štěrková cesta se pomalu změnila v šutry a začalo poměrně dost klesat dolů. S naší malou Corolou s nízkým spodkem jsme museli jet vyloženě krokem a kličkovat mezi jednotlivými balvany. I tak jsme několikrát chytli spodkem. Když jsme tak po 20 minutách zjistili, že jsme ujeli stěží 1km a další 3 nám zbývají, tak nás polil pot. Nedej bože, aby v noci třeba zapršelo, to bychom po těch šutrech nahoru už nikdy nevyjeli. Navíc, když jsme se podívali do maps.me, tak tahle cesta už nebyla značena ani jako cesta, ale jako turistická stezka :D Rozhodli jsme se dál netrápit a otočit to. I to byl mezi těmi šutry docela oříšek. Další kemp byl až 50km daleko, ale my neměli jinou možnost. Do velkého kempu Cathedral of fern vedla hezká cesta. Bylo tam úplně plno, ale jedno místečko jsme přesto ulovili. Naprosto vyčerpaní jsme ulehli ke spánku.

Ráno jsme zaspali a do Sydney dorazili celkem pozdě. Zaparkovali jsme v garážích a vydali se na nejvyšší budovu v Sydney a 2. nejvyšší vyhlídkovou věž v na jižní polokouli. 305m vysokou Sydney Tower. Shora byly krásné výhledy na celou Sydney.

Poté jsme šli do Sea life - dějiště animáku Hledá se Dory. Uvnitř jsme viděli chobotnice, tunely s rejnoky a žraloky ke kterým se potápěli lidé, mořskou krávu atd. Bylo to obrovské a hezky udělané.

Když jsme si pár dní zpět volali s našimi známými Robem a Joy ze Sydney, tak nás pozvali k sobě domů. Když jsme k nim jeli, tak nám napsali, že už zabookovali na večer restauraci. Šli jsme tedy na večeři do rakouské restaurace. Jídlo bylo výborné a my začali poznávat, že dobré skutky se vyplácí. A to zdaleka nebyl konec. Druhý den jsme totiž s našimi hostiteli vyrazili na jejich plachetnici. Zprvu se dost nepředvídatelně točil vítr a my museli jet hodně na motor, ale pak se to uklidnilo a začali jsme více používat plachty. Vzali nás na svá oblíbená místa, na pláži jsme si udělali krásný piknik, vykoupali jsme se - zkrátka nám udělali nádherný den.

Dost nás překvapilo, že plavba na plachetnici není takový relax, jak jsme si mysleli. Je to spousta práce: natáhnout plachty, pak pořád přetahovat lana tam a sem a zase zpět... Po cestě zpět nám foukal dobrý vítr a my pádili jen na plachtách neuvěřitelnou rychlostí. Večer jsme na dvoře pod vzrostlými stromy, na kterých poletovala spousta hlučných kakadu, povečeřeli nějaké to klokaní, pokecali a šli spát.

Ráno jsme museli vstávat brzy. Naši hostitelé totiž museli do práce a tak jsme se rozloučili, pozvali je k nám, až budou mít cestu do Evropy (nějakou dobu žili v Něměcku a Rob má dokonce nějaké české předky, tak to není nepravděpodobné) a vyrazili dál - opět do Blue Mountains. Modré hory se to jmenuje kvůli modrému oparu z Eukalyptů, který je skutečně vidět. Mimochodem také moc hezky voní. Poobjížděli jsme snad všechny vyhlídky které tam byli, ale jinak nám to přišlo stejné jako v Morton NP. Vždy pohled do údolí a nějaké ty skály a útesy.

Opět jsme se ubytovali v kempu Cathedral, kde jsme už byli. Začali jsme se balit na zítřejší let.Ráno jsme vstali v 6 a vyrazili do Sydney. Tam jsme navštívili poslední atrakci z našeho balíčku - Wild life. Bylo to takové víc pro lidi než pro zvířata a oproti Sealife taky dost malé.

Poté jsme už jen vyčistili a vrátili auto. Bohužel jsme museli doplácet něco málo za najeté kilometry navíc, protože do limitu 250km/den jsme se nevlezli. Uber nás dovezl na letiště a tam jsme se  po počátečním šoku, že po nás chtěli 4 dolary za půjčení vozíku (pak jsem našel odhozené) prozevlili až k odletu do Pekingu, přes který míříme na Vánoce domů.

Aram sees many cultural, religious, and national differences on the one-day trip, but harder obstacles are ahead. Apricot Groves is a quiet and introspective film which beautifully illustrates the bittersweet notion of reconnecting with a culture that may not be accepting of who you've become.

REBELS ON POINTE (Canada, 2016) Director: Bobbi Jo Hart 

Exploring universal themes of identity, dreams, family and love, Rebels on Pointe is a film celebrating the famous Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. The all-male, comic ballet company was founded in the '70s on the heels of New York's Stonewall riots and has a huge worldwide cult following. The film juxtaposes behind-the-scenes access, rich archives and history, intimate character-driven stories, and amazing dance performances. It's a story which ultimately proves that a ballerina is not only a woman dancing, but an act of revolution in a tutu. 

SEAT IN SHADOW (UK, 2016) Director: Henry Coombes Cast: Henry Coombes, Ross Hunter, Jonathan Leslie

Out of the imagination of acclaimed artist-filmmaker Henry Coombes comes Albert, an eccentric, aging painter doubling as an unconventional, Jung-inspired psychotherapist. When Albert's friend asks him to counsel her lethargic grandson Ben, whose ongoing boyfriend problems are rapidly fueling an already deep depression, their subsequent therapy sessions reveal as much about Albert as they do about the troubled young man. Coombes' debut feature is a witty, perceptive study of social mores, sexual excess and the bizarre, symbiotic relationship between doctor and patient; teacher and pupil; artist and muse.

Varichina was the first openly out homosexual man in Bari in the '70s. Ugly, flashy and campy, he was well known for making coarse advances to every man he saw. He was gay, had nothing to hide, and lived a life of celebration! Funny and heartwarming, Varichina: The True Story of the Fake Life of Lorenzo de Santis is a documentary/fiction hybrid looking at someone who was way out, long before it was socially acceptable.

      Giovedì 23 marzo alle ore 17.30 si è svolto il reading poetico “Donna in versi” in compagnia dei poeti: Concetta Antonelli, Bruno Aurisicchio, Crescenza Caradonna, Anna Maria Di Terlizzi, Debora Guerriero, Francesco Tanzi.

Hanno presentato : Rosa Capozzi, presidente del Prometeo Festival e Antonella Pompilio, direttrice dell’Archivio di Stato. Hanno letto ed interpretato alcune liriche: Grazia Daddario, Franco Minervini e Ketty Zotti. Organizzazione dell’evento a cura del Centro Teseo, dell’Archivio di Stato, delle case editrici Progedit e Florestano.

È possibile ancora visitare le quattro mostre presenti nel bellissimo spazio espositivo messo a disposizione dall’Archivio di Stato. Quattro percorsi che esaltano la figura femminile attraverso la scultura, la pittura e la fotografia: – Muse, Ninfe, Erinni. Impressioni e considerazioni di Crescenza Caradonna

Giovedì 23 marzo sono stata invitata a partecipare al reading poetico “Donne in versi” al PROMETEO FESTIVAL presso la CITTADELLA DELLA CULTURA a Bari Auditorium dell’Archivio di Stato. La serata presentata Rosa Capozzi, presidente del Prometeo Festival e Antonella Pompilio, direttrice dell’Archivio di Stato, ha visto la partecipazione di un numeroso pubblico che ha gustato le poesie degli scrittori /poeti presenti Concetta Antonelli, Bruno Aurisicchio, Crescenza Caradonna, Anna Maria Di Terlizzi, Debora Guerriero, Francesco Tanzi  che hanno declamato tre loro liriche a testa sul tema della”Donna” ingentilita dall’interpretazione di alcune liriche di Grazia Daddario (POETESSA SCRITTRICE), Franco Minervini (ATTORE – ORGANIZZATORE CULTURALE e Ketty Zotti (ATTRICE – POETESSA). Bari una città in fermento culturale già da alcuni anni è  sempre stata il centro di tradizioni che spaziano tra oriente ed occidente, vista la collocazione geografica che la pone come ponte tra le due civiltà, ma è recentemente che la bella città marinara ha avuto un exploit piacevolmente imprevisto che ha trascinato la cultura cittadina e limitrofa del territorio pugliese, quindi in senso lato, fruibile a tutti anche ai non addetti ai lavori.

Quattro percorsi che esaltano la figura femminile attraverso la scultura, la pittura e la fotografia: “Muse, Ninfe, Erinni. Sempre Donne…”, pitture e sculture di Anna Maria Di Terlizzi, Donato Di Vittorio, Beppe Labianca e Vito Matera, tra i migliori artisti del nostro panorama pugliese ed ancora “Donne”, fotografie di Antonella Berlen ed ancora “Sguardi e riflessi di Donna”, fotografie di Ninì Ferrara e Rosaria Pastoressa ed infine, ma non per ultimo d’importanza, “In bellezza”, fotografie di Francesca De Santis, Pino Di Cillo e Antonio Tevere. Una mostra che ne vale quattro per genio e valore.

Girando in galleria al PROMETEO FESTIVAL tra le opere in mostra di artisti fotografi, pittori e scultori ho potuto constatare il grande interesse del pubblico che era incuriosito ma affascinato allo stesso tempo quasi incredulo, di come cotanto talento artistico è lì a due passi da casa loro e che deve solo essere ricoperto e valorizzato dai tutti i cittadini baresi come un viaggio d’arte e di tradizione da preservare per un futuro all’insegna della condivisione tra popoli e genti.@ di Crescenza Caradonna

Máj - Berna bday, Au pair cruise, Atlantic City a Memorial day..what a busy month for me

Máj sa mi začal riadne busy a každý víkend som mala čo robiť. Ani sa mi nechce veriť že už je máj a že za dva mesiace opustím môj Rockville Centre a budem žiť na úplne odlišnom mieste. Tým odlišným miestom myslím o veľa o veľa tichšie miesto, nie ako RVC. Milujem to tu lebo tu mám veľa kamarátok, moju Eleni a najlepšie piatkové a sobotné večeri v bare aké si môžem priať. Plus blízko je Long beach a oceánu čo je úplne svetové miesto.

Prvú májovú sobotu sme s babami boli už dlho dohodnuté, že pôjdeme na párty do NYC a objednáme si limuzínu, pretože Berna (Poľsko) oslavovala narodeniny a Mel (Nemecko) mala rozlúčku, pretože odchádzala po dvoch rokoch domov. V sobotu sme sa zišli u Giselle (South Africa). Doniesli sme si veci, nachystali sme sa a vyrazili na vlak. Všetci po nás pozerali keď sme boli nahodené ako keby v živote nevideli ženy, ale pri tých Američankách sa im ani nečudujem :D Všetky baby čiže Ja, Eleni (Mexico), Berna (Poľsko), Julia (Poľsko), Giselle (South Africa), Mel (Nemecko) a Diana (Kolumbia). Išli sme do PHD Terrace na rooftop party. Bola to Latino party a bolo tam super. Potom sme išli na Herald Sq. odkiaľ nám mala ísť limuzína. V limo sedeli už nejaké baby (samozrejme au pair) :D a tak sme čakali kým sa nazbierame všetky. Sedeli sme v limo asi tak 20 minút a potom sme sa konečne pohli. Promotér vytiahol nejakú úplne lacnú vodku, ktorá okolo vodky ani nešla. Hrala hudba, mali sme sa fajn, ale zastavovali sme na každom ,,kroku´´ a stáli sme viac ako sme tou limuzínou jazdili. Potom nás zobral do klubu Haus a tam zomrel pes. Tak sme to s babami zabalili už okolo 1:30 am a vydali sme sa na Penn Station smer domov. S Eleni chodíme spolu vždy pešo, ale boli sme neskutočne unavené a tak sme si zobrali taxík zo stanice. Nastúpili sme a v taxíku boli dvaja chalani a ešte nastúpili dve strašne opité baby. Taxikár sa nás pýtal na adresy a chalan za mnou býval na tej istej ulici ako Eleni a tak sme sa dali všetci do reči. Boli teda pod parou, ale bola sranda. Chalan pri mne si na mna vypýtal číslo a tak som mu ho napísala do mobilu. (Kedy sa už naučím dávať zlé číslo?) Dva x sa ma spýtal či s ním pôjdem na rande takým nezrozumiteľným spôsobom, že to bolo až smiešne :D. Odpálkovala som ho, že už mám plány a vystúpila som z taxíka. No a tak som získala nového amerického (suseda a kamaráta) v jednom.

Btw promoter si od každého zacvakal 25 usd a bol spokojný no my sme neboli. Určite odporúčam limo ride, ale nie promotéra Simona. 

V nedeľu sme boli s babami dohodnuté, že sa ešte rozlúčime spolu s Mel u Giselle doma. S Elleni sme boli vyvolať fotky pre Mel a kúpiť ešte nejaký darček Berne. Vonku bolo krásne a tak sme sedeli na terase a rozprávali sa a veru, že nám padli aj slzy. Berne sme zaspievali Happy Bday a bol to super deň no zároveň smutný lebo Mel nám bude chýbať. Každá sme iná a každá dodávame tej našej grupe niečo čo iná nemá a preto každá nám bude chýbať. Verím, že aj ja im. Večer som išla ešte s Denou na Long Beach kde sme si dali menšiu večeru

Ďalšiu sobotu som išla na au pair disco cruise spolu s Diana (Kolumbia), Giselle (South Africa) a Eleni (Mexico). Keď sme prišli na miesto odkiaľ loď odchádzala, stáli sme tam ešte tak hodinu a pol kým sme sa na ňu dostali. Vyrážali sme z pier medzi 11 av a 12 av a prešli sme okolo Sochy slobody, Brooklyn Bridge atd. Bolo to úžasné a asi pôjdem aj ďalší rok. Na lodi bolo cca 500 au pairs. Stretla som aj nejaké baby z Čiech. Zabavali sme sa, tancovali a potom domov takže žiadna divoká party sa potom nekonala, lebo Eleni musela večer pracovať a ja som ostávať v City sama nechcela.

V nedeľu som nemala plány, ale samozrejme, že som dlho spať nemohla pretože ako každý víkend ma zobudili deti. No nielen tie, ale aj viac hlasov a tak som sa dala do poriadku, obliekla a dolu som zistila, že mojej host matky sesternica má u nás v dome baby shower. Nechápem prečo všetky oslavy sa konajú v tomto dome no ale budiž. Bolo tu asi 50 žien samozrejme, že mne neznámych. Bola som dolu asi tak 10 minút lebo som na to nemala nervy. Neznášam oslavy v našom dome, pretože vždy tu príde 1000 ľudí a aj tak tu nikoho nepoznám takže sa nemám s kým rozprávať a pripadám si ako taký dement.

S Denou sme sa dohodli, že niečo vymyslíme a tak ma vyzdvihla a išli sme do mallu a potom sme šli do Queens do Slovenskej reštaurácie. Boli sme hladné ako vlci a tak sme si najprv dali slepačí vývar, potom sme si objednali pirohy s bryndzou a vyprážaný syr s oblohou. Fučali sme jak lokomotívy a nejak sme nedomysleli, že sme si objednali tie najsýtejšie jedlá aké sme mohli. Vedľa pri stole nám na záver jeden Slovák objednal pudingový pohár a to sme sa už kotúlali. Po 7mich mesiacoch som konečne mohla ochutnať naše slovenské jedlo a bola som šťastná jak malé decko. Keď som prišla domov, party už bola u konca takže som prišla vhod :D.

Tretí piatok v mesiaci sme boli s mojimi babami (Šárka, Terka a Dominika) dohodnuté, že pôjdeme do Atlantic City na celý víkend. Domnika v piatok dostala nejaký vírus a tak s nami nemohla ísť. V piatok som bola s host mom dohodnutá, že môžem skončiť skôr a že prídu jej rodičia. Vonku bolo krásne a nevedela som sa dočkať víkendu. Deti som prenechala starým rodičom a ja som išla na vlak do NYC. Z NYC som si zobrala vlak ku Terke do NJ a odtiaľ sme išli jej autom do Atlantic City. Do AC sme prišli okolo polnoci. Ubytovali sme sa a išli sme do mesta. Išli sme si obzrieť kasína a potom sme skončili na drinku v jednom bare. Bar bol narvaní samými čudnými ľuďmi a tak sme to tam zabalili a išli sme sa vyspať. Keď sme prišli na motel chceli sme si otvoriť ale karta nám nefungovala a tak sme išli na recepciu nech nám dajú inú. Druhá karta tiež nefungovala a to už nám dochádzala trpezlivosť. Navyše izba bol hnusná, smrdela, vyzeralo to ako by tam moc neupratovali a našli sme joint pod posteľou. Zavŕšilo to psie hovno na schodoch. Ráno sme sa boli sťažovať a tak nám vymenili izbu v inej časti motela. Bol to tiež des, ale lepšia izba ako pred tým.

Ráno sme sa prebudili do daždivého počasia a tak sme z toho boli celkom otrávené. Kráčali sme až na pláž a po boardwalku a začalo riadne liať tak sme si museli kúpiť aj dáždniky. Bola dosť zima a nevyzeralo to tam najlepšie. Atlantic City som si predstavovala oveľa oveľa lepšie. S babami sme boli hladné a tak sme sa išli najesť do Hard Rock cafe a dali sme si burger. Cestou naspäť sme vyskúšali ešte falafell ale bol dosť sladký. Potom sme si zobrali uber do downtown a išli sme obzrieť nejaké obchody. Po nákupoch sme sa išli chystať a večer. Kúpili sme si víno, ale nejak sme pozabudli, že nemáme vývrtku na štupeľ a tak sme googlili akým spôsobom tú fľašu vína otvoríme. Hútali sme nad tým dobrú hodinu a skúšali asi všetko od položenia fľaše do topánky a následným búchaním o stenu pričom sme skoro rozbili omietku a skoro aj tú fľašu až po zapichnutie manikúrových nožničiek do korku, ktorými sa nám nakoniec podarilo fľašu otvoriť.

Dali sme si vínečko a potom sme si zavolali uber. Išli sme do klubu kde mal hrať v ten večer Don Diablo. Stretli sme tam nejakého Slovaka a ja už trošku pod parou som sa s ním ani neviem prečo rozprávala po anglicky celý čas :D okolo tretej sme si zobrali uber. Uberista bol v práci asi prvýkrát lebo jednak nevedel kde ideme pričom AC neni veľké a jednak bol vyplašený jak orol :D Ráno Šárka musela vstávať a musela si zobrať bus lebo o 12stej musela ísť do práce a my s Terkou sme spali do cca 10tej. Ráno sme išli na tie ich kontinentálne raňajky a jediné čo mali boli jeden druh cereálií a mlieko, ktoré samotné nepijem. Na stole mravce a všetko špinavé takže boli sme aj tak hladné lebo waflovač veľmi nefungoval a urobili sme si naveľa len jednu waflu. Pobalili sme sa a vyrazili sme domov. Ja som si z NJ potom zobrala vlak a domov som prišla o cca 3pm. S Denou sme ešte vyrazili na večeru na Long Beach a môj víkend bol fuč.

Štvrtý víkend v mesiaci bol predĺžený víkend, pretože v pondelok bol Memorial day. V sobotu prišla do NYC Sabina a tak sme sa stretli a išli sme do Soha, Little Italy a Chinatown. V Queens v slovensko-českej reštike sa konal Slovenský festival a tak sme tam s babami išli. Mala som pocit, že tam bolo viac Amíkov než našich ale bolo to tam plné. S babami sme si dali chleba a klobásku, po ktorej sa hneď zaprášilo. Potom sme išli naspäť do City a dali sme si v Starsbuck kávu kde ma premenovali na Tatália :D raz nepochopim jak to tí zamestnanci robia, ale hold marketing je marketing. Ešte som sa mala stretnúť so Šárkou a Terezou a tak som prišla za nimi do Madison park pri ,,žehličke´´. Sedeli sme na deke a bolo strašne teplo. 

V nedeľu ma Dena vyzdvihla a večer sme plánovali niekde vyraziť. Najprv sme sa išli najesť lebo Dena mala nejaký kupón z grupónu a tak sme sa najedli až tak, že sme zas fučali a skoro kotúľali. Prezliekla som sa v aute a keďže sa blížil Memorial day mysleli sme si, že v RVC budú bary plné no to sme sa mýlili. Nikto nikde nebol a tak sme sa išli pozrieť do Freeportu. Síce to tam žilo a bary boli preplnené, ale za parking chceli 20 dolárov a za vstup cca 20-30 čo sme si povedali, že sa asi zbláznili. Nasadli sme opäť do auta a išli sme smer našej obľúbenej Long Beach. Tam to žilo tiež a bary boli plné. Zaplatili sme cca 10 usd a bavili sme sa. Bolo super, ale ráno na Memorial Day sme chceli ísť s Denou do City. Plán bol jasný a to Rainbow Bagel vo Williamsburgu. V noci pršalo a tak sme dúfali, že ďalší deň bude pekné počasie a pôjdeme do mesta. Ráno bolo krásne a tak okolo 11 sme vyrazili. Dena si vo vlaku spomenula, že nemá nabíjačku a tak sme išli na hodinu do Starsbucku a nabiť telefón. Potom sme si zobrali metro do Williamsburgu a našli sme Rainbow bagel store. Dnu bolo strašné teplo a nedalo sa tam ani dýchať. Mali tam rôzne príchute a rozne farebné bagels. Ja som si dala Rainbow bagel s nutelovým cream cheese a Dena si dala Rainbow bagel so dried tomatoes cream cheese. Zobrali sme si bagels a išli sme si sadnúť k Williamsburg bridge. Potom sme si všimli, že tam premáva Ferry a tak sme si kúpili lístok a o pár minút sme sa už viezli na Ferry (prevážacia loď). Išli sme do Brooklyn Bridge parku, keďže som vedela, že je tam stojan s nabíjačkami a Denin mobil už zas potreboval šťavu. Išli sme popod Manhattan Bridge aj Brooklyn Bridge a bola to príjemná zmena, pretože vždy sa presúvam metrom. V BB parku sme zistili, že na nabíjanie je potrebný kábel a tak sme s nabíjaním skončili :D

Prešli sme Brooklynský most, ktorým sme sa dostali do Downtown a začali sme byť hladné tak sme chceli niečo nájsť na groupon. Nakoniec sme sa zhodli, že pôjdeme naspäť domov a v Rockville Centre si dáme večeru. A tak sme dovŕšili Memorial day vynikajúcim americkým burgerom.

La settecentesca accademia di S. Vito dei Normanni (2/2)

La settima riunione si tenne, come mostra la c. 213r di seguito riprodotta, il 1° gennaio 1738, cioè, almeno stando a quel che risulta registrato, a sette anni dalla precedente. Lacuna volontaria o no nella registrazione oppure sintomo di una progressiva stanchezza (fenomeno frequente per le accademie dopo l’entusiasmo e la prolificità dei primi anni)? Troppo il lasso di tempo per non credere nella prima ipotesi e la conferma viene dal fatto che più avanti (c. 221r) è riportato un sonetto di Ortensio De Leo e in calce una nota che recita: Il sopradetto Sonetto fu rappresentato nell’Assermblea Accademica per il compleanno del Signor Principe, tenuta nel palazzo di detto Signore a 7 Gennaio, Sabbato giorno di Santo Antonio Abbatead ore 21 1733. 

  Problema Accademico. qual fosse il motivo principale della Santità di Santo Francesco Xaverio: l’umiltà di sé stesso, ovvero la carità esercitò verso del Prossimo. Tenuta la presente Accademia nella Chiesa Vecchia a primo del 1738 giorno di Giovedì, e Capo del’anno ad ore 20, l’apertura della quale si fe’ dal Reverendo Andrea De Leonardis

Questa volta il problema accademico non è discusso in prosa ma trattato direttamente nelle cc. 214r-231v nei componimenti di Ortensio De Leo (6; l’ultimo, a c. 221r, in realtà è del 7 gennaio 1733, come riportato in una nota aggiunta in calce e del quale ho detto poco fa), Teodomiro De Leo (4), Ortensio De Leo (3).

L’ottava riunione ebbe luogo il 12 febbraio 1738, come si evince dall’incipit di c. 228r.

S’invitano li Pastori della nostra Arcadia a festegiare le felicissime nozze del nostro invittissimo Regnante D. Carlo Borbone, Rè delle due Sicilie, etc. colla Serenissima Real Principessa di Polonia Donna Maria Amalia Primogenita del Rè Augusto 3 di Polonia. e Duca della Serenissima Casa di Sassonia nella presente Assemblea Accademica, che si celebra quest’oggi li 2 di Febraio 1738 giorno di Domenica.  

Seguono a partire dalla stessa carta fino a c. 231v tre componimenti di Ortensio De Leo.

Si direbbe che le riunioni dell’accademia, almeno quelle registrate, terminino qui, perché la c. 232r non fa nessun riferimento specifico ad una tenuta nella data che pure è indicata (giugno 1738).

Seguono (cc- 233r-244r) i componimenti di Giovanni Battista Notaregiovanni, Ortensio De Leo, Giovanni Scazzioto (3) di Brindisi, Vito Ruggiero, Lorenzo Cavaliere, Lorenzo Ruggiero (2), Carmine Ruggiero (2), Francesco Ruggiero (2), Pietro Matera di Francavilla (3), Padre Piertommaso Barretta di S. Vito Baccelliere dei carmelitani, un autore il cui nome è illegibile (c. 242r), dottor fisico signor Carlo Evaranta (?) di Francavilla, un autore il cui nome risulta abraso.

Dopo aver angustiato il lettore con questa descrizione che pure era necessaria per avere contezza del documento e conoscere nomi di poeti poco noti se non ignoti sui quali varrà la pena in seguito approfondire [(solo alcuni di loro, per giunta parzialmente, risultano pubblicati in Pasquale Sorrenti, La Puglia e i suoi poeti dialettali : antologia vernacola pugliese dalle origini ad oggi, De Tullio, Bari, 1962; ristampa Forni, Sala Bolognese, 1981 (1 copia nelle biblioteca “Achille Vergari” di Nardò)], concludo, nella speranza che non si sia già dileguato, con un assaggio per così dire, divertente e anticonformista. Divertente perché riguarderà due componimenti che potremmo inquadrare nell’enigmistica; anticonformista, come è la stessa raccolta, perché, cosa inusuale in quelle di altre accademie, essa contiene pure sei componimenti in vernacolo, e ne leggeremo uno.

Traduzione: A Giuseppe Marchese nato da illustre famiglia. che ha seguito le orme dei suoi antenati, le mirabili gesta del padre santo, che per valore, giustizia, clemenza, carità, magnanimità e forza, insigne, eccellentissimo, conosciuto, che, carico della gloria degli immortali,  dona a tutti coloro che nel mondo lo festeggiano un esempio di tanta onestà, ecco, questo elogio a forma di piramide da me Leo viene costruito, eretto, dedicato.

Il componimento dal punto di vista iconografico appare ispirato dal carme ropalico [dal latino Rhopalicu(m), a sua volta dal greco ῥοπαλικός (leggi ropalicòs), derivato  di ῥόπαλον (leggi ròpalon)=clava], gioco metrico-grafico praticato già in Grecia a partire dal IV secolo a. C. poi in ambito latino presso i poeti neoterici del II secolo d. C., consistente nel costruire un verso con parole in cui ognuna ha un numero di sillabe pari a quello della precedente più uno, in modo che, sistemando le parole una sotto l’altra, esce fuori una forma che ricorda quella della clava. Qui, come si nota, rispetto al modello originale l’aumento progressivo delle sillabe è rispettato solo nelle tre righe superiori e la forma finale (che non è quella della clava ma della piramide) è ottenuta anche con un’opportuno ingrandimento o rimpicciolimento dei caratteri (ragion per cui nella mia trascrizione, avendone adottato una dimensione fissa, la piramide è andata a farsi benedire. Oltretutto nelle composizioni latine similari la prima parola, anche e costituita da una sola lettera, doveva avere un senso compiuto. Qui, invece l’iniziale I (che in latino, imperativo presente del verbo ire, avrebbe significato va’) è parte integrante del successivo oseph: insomma, un giochetto di origine dotta ma furbescamente semplificato.

b Da notare in questa parola, nella penultima del terzultimo verso e nella prima dell’ultimo la grafia di dd, in cui ciascuna lettera appare tagliata a metà da una barretta orizzontale. È come se il copista con quel segno diacritico avesse voluto precisare che il gruppo dd (esito di ll) nel dialetto brindisino presenta una pronuncia ben diversa dalla cacuminale retroflessa del leccese (perquest’ultima vedi https://www.fondazioneterradotranto.it/2012/08/01/il-solito-dubbio-di-trascrizione-per-un-fonema-salentino/).

c Plurale di ommu, che a prima vista potrebbe sembrare un francesismo (da homme). Tra l’altro gli etimologi considerano l’italiano uomo derivato dal latino homo, che è nominativo, contravvenendo alla regola che vuole i nomi formatisi dall’accusativo (hominem), mentre il plurale uomini mostra chiaramente la sua derivazione dall’accusativo plurale homines. Credo che proprio in –mm– stia la spiegazione dell’apparente stranezza, ipotizzando la seguente trafila: homine(m)>homne(m) (sincope)>homme (assimilazione)>ommu (regolarizzazione della desinenza; simile il napoletano ommo attestato ne Le Muse napoletane di Giambattista Basile (XVI-XVII secolo); lo stesso fenomeno, mediato dalla lingua parlata, avrebbe coinvolto uomo.

Qui probabilmente si carica ulteriormente del significato che la parola, di uso letteraria e oggi obsoleta, aveva in italiano, anche se il successivo Segnore sembrerebbe, se non escluderlo, almeno limitarlo.

O quanto ci rallegriamo perché è venuto/Fabio  il padre e il signore nostro!/Stavamo proprio proprio senza cuore/pensando che non sarebbe intervenuto./Noi ne pregammo molto san Vito/perché lo prendesse per l’orecchio e lo spingesse fuori/da Napoli e lo conducesse qui in due ore/solo per mostrare che ci va per voto./Se ci guarda con gli occhi, non ci sazia!/e vuole svignarsela un’altra volta?/Puttana di domani, come lui vuole straziarci!/Oh san Vito ferma per noi quella ruota/della fortuna e facci quest’altra grazia:/che possa vivere mille anni in mezzo a noi)   

Prima, a c. 53r lo stesso tema era stato trattato in latino da Scipione Ruggiero in un componimento latino in sette distici elegiaci (numero che ricorda quello dei versi che compongono un sonetto).

  Cittadini, celebriamo esultando la venuta del principe. È un giorno lieto, applaudite per la calma a noi lieta. Vivemmo nelle tenebre, una luce aurea è venuta dagli astri e tutti sappiamo quanto conviene e giova.  Tutti ci rallegriamo a buon diritto, ma soprattutto il servo che offre la vita per la tua buona salute. Partenope prega che tu ritorni perché vengono mosse guerre e, sicura della tua destra, si difende. Rivolgeremo voti e preghiere a Dio perché cessino i combattimenti. Così verrà per noi la pacee l’amica quiete. Ecco, o principe, puoi vedere quanto la tua presenza ci renda allegri, con quanto rispetto ti onoriamo. Resta in patria, tu, o signore, rendi felici con lo sguardo tutti quelli che chiedono consolazione, i cuori dei cittadini)

b Era parroco della chiesa di S.Maria della Vittoria, in cui si tenne, come sopra s’è riportato, l’accademia del 14 marzo 1731. La cronotassi degli arcipreti, per la stessa chiesa, registra anche i nomi di Carmelo Ruggiero (1757-1759) e di Francesco Ruggiero (1760-1775), quasi una dinastia …; Per quanto riguarda Francesco, poi, egli non è cronologicamante incompatibile con il Francesco Ruggiero registrato come principe dell’Accademia del 5 marzo 1730.
