Had a Dom stop for a check-in, and when I didn't respond, went "oh you can't talk can you?"
And then immediately helped guide me through a nonverbal check-in instead.
Thats the kind of accomodation and adaptability that I'm looking for

Can't sleep again. Thinking about how I don't like knight/prince(ss) as a trope. Besides the fact that it's boring to me. This isn't "discourse" or a call out or anything it's just a personal interpretation and analysis
while yeah there's nothing wrong with that level of power imbalance in fiction, these tropes always act like that's a cute thing which I just find to be. 😬 y'know. Referring to a character as a "pet" for the royal one without understanding that that's. not a great dynamic to have. The "don't call them toxic or problematic!" When the relationship is inherently not equal and can never be without issues, but this can't possibly be discussed because then the person who ships it is a bad person 🙃
and for someee reason still bitching about the "more obvious" power imbalances like enemies, who most of the time end up being MORE equal because they're the same person same situation different fonts
It's fine to me when it's used as an insult (something something loyalty) and then there's discussion of "you know you mean so much more to me than that", or when there's a Very Obviously Fucked Up imbalance that is Very Obviously Not Normal and yet the one that gets the short end of the stick is like "fuck this I don't care that you think you're better than me. Your power only exists because I give you it, so be very careful how you use it" (and when they use it wrong there are consequences that don't get magically forgiven)
If the one with less control isn't very very aware of how much power the other has over them and could exert if they wanted to (but also the fact that the relationship and its genuineness hinges on their agreement) it gets a bit too concerning for me. If there isn't a certain level of meta intertextual analysis and understanding of the way the very much dominant/submissive dynamic works then it's just. Not interesting and often frustrating
Edit: this should have said intra-textual ("in the text itself", which I apparently not a word) not inter-textual (between texts)

I don’t know what it is about the Jane Austen adaptations I’ve seen recently, but they just have so much trouble sticking the landing.
#i mean#ANY mansfield park adaptation??#especially 1999 but that one has a whole bunch of other stuff wrong with it too#and I almost GET IT because in the book the conclusion *is* very quick#but isn’t the point of an adaptation to expand on what is missing in the book?#also Emma and p&p#both of those books have such good rich things happen after the accepted proposals but the major adaptations just totally gloss over that??#Harriet and Robert meeting again in London! where’s my Emma adaptation that gives me that?!#Lizzy and Darcy being all cute after she accepts him!!!#I really feel like#in a miniseries ideally Darcy’s proposal and knightley’s proposal would both be at the *beginning* of the last episode#not almost at the end of it#because let! the other! things! happen!#let Austen’s storytelling shine!!!#can’t speak for the book in s&s discourse because I never finished it but like. 1995 and 2008 both had lovely endings#it’s not too hard in that sense#but it also is??? apparently? if we’re going by the 1981#need to watch the 70s one too#AND D O N ‘ T get me started on mansfield park#where ?! WHERE?!?! is my adaptation where we actually get to see Edmund slowly falling for Fanny at the end????#(I do not see 1999 it doesn’t exist)#like no. because in that one they paint Edmund like he’s been in love with Fanny forever and. no????#and then 2007 with him just having this random epiphany- what? two weeks after he breaks up with Mary?#and then he just runs out and kdrama-arm-grabs Fanny in the garden and kisses her??? HATE IT THANKS#at least when kdramas do it it’s kind of romantic#this Edmund was just creepy#and since we’re back on this discussion PLEASE I’VE BEEN ON MY KNEES give us a likeable Edmund!!!!!#I just used up my tag limit so I’m gonna tag this for my files and shut up and go to bed :) <3#elly's posts#jane austen

always unsure how to see the well-meaning heterosexuals who interact with Maurice (1987) because they are like "Maurice and Alec deserve each other, Maurice deserved someone who wasn't a coward like Clive and could own up to his feelings :3" and on one hand 1) real, true. and i agree with you. but also 2) WHO created and enforced the systems to keep him "cowardly", made him fear prison, violent judicial punishment, and moral and social ruin. Quickly.

Editing continues, and now under discussion, the correct version of dom/domination in a world where articles either use the capital D in all instances or mention how some prefer the big D (*immature giggles*) and yet every casual mention by regular people uses the lowercase.
So now it comes down to stylistic and characterization choices.
All this for a story no one will read.

I only just noticed the way the water spilled out when TK slammed his glass on the table in the date scene. I so badly want to know what was going through Carlos's mind in that scene when he sees this guy who up until now he's only ever seen as super confident or beaten down whining and stomping his foot over how mean his new coworker was to him
ME TOO!! I wrote the missing moment for that episode from TK's pov but maybe I need to write another one from Carlos's pov with d/s thoughts in mind.

jc and lxc, despite having limited interactions within the canon, its still a nice ship, they're quite similar in regards to some of their traumas and betrayals and the idea of two of them healing together post-canon warms my heart so much

Well normally they go back to writers room by mid june/ july and we have fall premieres by late september/october so not impossible to have episodes on late january if they get a deal on set/october. I have been following the strike closely and there's a thing: the unions want to have audience support and what would get people engaged and putting pressure on the studios? Not having new shows or news about releases. So there would be a lot of "maybe by next fall" "maybe never" "this is the end" talks. But just talking about things I have read: the writers are waiting for SAG-AFTRA to get a deal (deadline on july 17) or to strike with them. If the actors get a deal: the studios should finally negotiate with the WGA again and probably using some of their deal terms, if they don't that's two unions striking and Hollywood would be shut down. Messy but eventually everyone needs to work again ($$). It seems slow but all the deadlines were expected, like we knew they would negotiate with DGA (the directors accepted their deal) and SAG before going back to WGA talks ( In reality the picketing writers are doing right now is to shut down productions and make studios lose money)
That's a good point! So here's hoping January will be a realistic goal. And thank you for the info on the strike! It's good to have this kind of thing explained and to have some updates...I've been trying to keep up with stuff myself but sometimes it's hard to figure out what's actually happening haha. Hopefully there will be some good news soon. 🤞🏻
