Hello!! Would it be possible if you could tell me some info on wolfdogs??
sure man! apologies for the wait!! ^_^
Wolfdogs is a pretty broad term. They're often sorted into 3 categories: low, mid, and high content. These categories are in accordance with the ammount of wolf DNA actually present in the canine! there are specific "breeds" where wolf dna has been introduced including the czechslovakian wolfdog & sarloos wolfdog! if you want info on them specifically let me know, i'm just speaking on wolfdogs in general.
People will tell you that huskies and german shepherds have higher wolf content than other dogs! this really isn't true, they're just as much wolf as a chihuahua, which is to say very little. tamaskan dogs were bred to resemble wolves but are not wolfdogs.
People also tend to mix up wolfdogs and dogs with wolflike traits (somehow???) so here are some helpful charts that can also help you differentiate wolfdogs of different contents!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Temperament - It should be taken into account that every dog is its own individual! however, generally, High content wolfdogs actually tend to be more skittish and shy. This is because normal wolves are usually very nervous and avoidant of humans. Mid-Low content wolfdogs are usually more prone to attacks, especially because of their confidence around humans. They can be more aggressive than both dogs and wolves.
They have very high needs that can rarely be met by humans, and tend to be destructive if not given huge ammounts of space and mental stimulation.
They're also very indipendent, and dont require much human interaction outside of having their basic needs met.
They're known for escaping homes, food agression, having high prey drive, territorial behavior, sensitive behavior, reactive behavior, seasonal agression, and being agressive to or violently protective of small children. Theyre also very very vocal and tend to play very rough. Theyre also do well in groups, but getting multiple is usually an awful idea.
Health & Physical Traits - Wolfdogs usually have a lifespan of 12-18 years.
They're also huge. wolfdogs can weigh 70-100 pounds on average, and can end up bigger than both wolves and dogs.
Its basically impossible to meet the needs of a wolfdog because of various traits i listed in Temperament. That being said they dont do well in the wild either. They also have body language somewhat different from dogs, which can lead to communication failures.
Unfortunately I can't find many good sources on common health issues, buti imagine it depends on what dog they're mixed with.
They're luckily quite hard to injure because they have thick fur and tough skin to protect from each others' roughhousing, as well as predators.

It was about Luftwaffe's hero from Borek (nowadays Stadtteil von Breslau, area in Wrocław).
Now that's about Polish and Czechslovakian fighters who were belong to Royal Airforce.
Polish and one Czechslovak were the best.

I saw your post about people mislabeling their dogs as wolfdogs, but what about Czechslovakian wolfdogs? Would it be correct to refer to them as wolfdogs, as it's in the breed's name?
This is a really great question and I think to best answer it we have to look at the history of Czechslovakian wolfdogs as a breed. The breed started as an experiment in the 1950’s, when the Czechoslovakian military was looking for a new breed of dog to patrol their borders during the Cold War. They aimed to hybridize German Shepherds with wild Carpathian wolves to create an animal with the physical characteristics of a wolf but the temperament and trainability of a dog. The first (F1 and F2) hybrids of these pairings were for the most part far too unruly and unsuitable for training, so the hybrids were painstakingly backcrossed with dogs for more than 25 years to select for individuals that looked like wolves but behaved like dogs. It took a lot of time, but by the 80’s Czechoslovakian wolfdogs were officially declared their own breed!
Although they do look more like wolves than most dog breeds, CSWs are genetically much closer to a dog than a wolf. This is due to the extensive genetic backcrossing with domestic canines that happened early on in their breed history. A study comparing the genetic makeup of the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog to both Carpathian wolves and German Shepherds found that the so called wolfdogs are, genetically speaking, really just dogs. I personally don’t mind calling these dogs “wolfdog” because as you said, the word is right there in the name of the breed, and it does pay homage to their interesting origins! However, I do think it is good to make it very clear to people that these pups are truly NOT wolves. They are dogs that have been carefully bred to look like wolves while maintaining the behavioral traits of domestication, and this is what separates them from true wolfdog crosses that we see today.
For reference, here is a picture of a Czechoslovakian wolfdog and the study that I mentioned (excellent read!)

Another good lecture on US shipbuilding from 1922-1945.
Interesting bit from Q&A - US steel quality back then and still today has terrible quality control. So bad that many steel refiners require the steel to be outsourced from other countries! Spanish steel, apparently, is excellent, as is Czechslovakian.
I'm not too familiar with the US manufacturing industry's dynamics but I wonder how much of the supposed decline is driven by steel protectionism.

@bengalaas I need to elaborate more on in this before I ramble with no point:
Technically the idea of playing with different TV-styles, and the metaphor for escapism via comfort TV and nostalgic TV is something I find interesting as a concept. In concept, having Marvel focus more on characters and less on spectacle can work as it did for more character driven plots like the more standalone Guardians of the Galaxy. I did not expect a masterpiece but more liberty to experiment in tone and story telling possibilites.
However, the execution was severely lacking in build up any premise properly, to a poor result. First the nostalgia TV format with humerous idylls are interrupted by spots of colour, occassional out of place behviors or figures, making for a great mystery. But instead of building up the explanation why everything happens is uncermoniously explained in E04 by sidekick Marvel characters. And suddenly Wanda talks about how hurt and grief should be worked up properly and not escapism when she partly controls her comfort-escapist place. The metaphor is unelegantly explained in a expositionary lecture about grief not coherent with how Wanda herself deals with grief. This puts her in a weird position in which she controls her curated environment including mind controlling all people in it, putting her in the “moral” wrong side” whereas reflecting how to deal with trauma. Considering how Marvel before made her an antagonist first because her childhood trauma was abused by higher powers makes for a lack of development and how writers treat a character. At least she’s not killed (so far) for not being goodie-goodie for doing wrong becuase she’s sad.
Speaking of which, why is Wanda sad. Every side character around Wanda explicitly tells the audience in explicit exposition why she’s supposedly sad. She lost her parents as a child, she lost her dear twin brother, she lost her lover (with whom her love story was half baked at best during the entire movie series...), that’s so, so, so much trauma, Wanda can only be sad. And if aybody mssed that, an anatagonist appears out of nowhere, without any set-up this character being evil before, makes Wanda revisit her trauma and summarizing verbally why this was sad.
And now, why US-nostalgia TV: Her father bootlegged old US nostalgia-TV during her youth. (Again Marvel does the usual heavy Eastern-European-Accent(TM), Sokovia is a poor abandoned, greysclaed place. And as a child Wanda thinks only in terms of US-nostalgia comfort-TV (”In this episode everything turns out to be a bad dream. I wish my life was like this.”) Like... wow.
Well, then there came also the stupid US-comments how poorly made Soviet or satelite state nostalgia TV was. Well, watch your generic happy-family-laughtrack-sitcoms, such jokers do not deserve Czechslovakian fairytales or Oleg and Bolek, or Pittiplatsch. >:( (Even if GDR-fairytales have some tones in favour of the peasant hero the still were magical and beautifully made, and Popelsku makes me awe everytime I watch it. Okay, I stop ranting, I get why a US-studio is naturally gravitating towards US-notalgia.)
There were many ideas I theoretically liked but Marvel executed them in the same mistakes making their movies more and more unappealing by prioritizing side characters referencing other heroes constantly, stating Wanda’s emotional life before giving her the emotional expression not given in the run time of the movies, and the mystery aspect is not played out properly, in favour for Marvel-crossrefence... I give up, this studio can’t innovate anymore.
