Rockfest starts tomorrow!!! I'm so damn excited!! I am seeing fucking Nightwish tomorrow!!! Holy shit holy shit!!! I'm not that big of a maiden fan but guess i'll go to see them also since i got a three day ticket and i will be there for the whole time. Sun lotion, check. Plastic rain coat, check. Fucking good mood, check.

There's also Kvelertak, Me and That Man, Killing Joke, Mokoma, Candlemass, Cypher16 and Huora. And ofc more bands but those are what i am surely looking forward to.

.. And before it, today, i need to study. Either study or cry and study. I gotta get the damn essay done. Or at least get two chapters done. Guess i just pomodoro tehcnique myself forward with this.

(also i am little mad that i am missing these festivals due to going to Norway for student exchange: Metal Capital (oulu, fi), John Smith (Laukaa, fi), knotfest finland (turku, fi) and the Hämeenlinna medieval fair (Hämeenlinna, fi).)

But i am going to Tuska (helsinki, fi) and Midgårdsblot (borre/horten, no) so i will have some fun (most fun!!!). If i am quick i might get a ticket for Wacken next summer. I wish i was richer so i could go to ALL THE METAL FESTIVALS, but sadly, no.

Thursday, May 25: Cypher16, “Castle”

Cypher16 might be the only Western metal outfit to first gain traction in China and India, but the British group earned their keep the hard way by playing anywhere and everywhere that would have them.  And on a global level, their timing was perfect, as Cypher16’s style of technical metal was coming into fashion on a large scale just as The Great Surveyor was released.  “Castle” was emblematic of the songs on that album, featuring charging riffs, prog-minded drumming and aggressive but not inaccessible vocals. The song was progressive but unpretentious, its brief running time hitting all the necessary beats and moving on quickly to the next thing.  As a result, “Castle” could feel a bit faceless, and the album as a whole suffered from a lack of identity, but the song illustrated Cypher16’s potential and suggested that with more roadwork and a little more attention, the band could one day develop a signature sound.
